The current system is making the player base smaller by the minute.
While I’ll let the PvP team respond to the other points here, I do want to take a moment and address this:
PvP has steadily grown in population and play hours going on nearly a year now. It’s sky-rocketed since the game went free, and the two weeks before this have been our best weeks literally since the week the game launched. We anticipate this week will be the best week login/play wise PvP has ever had in the history of Gw2.
I don’t want to trivialize your points – and our competitive team has some great reasons why things operate the way they do they’ll lay out and explain in relation to leagues soon: I do want to call out you’re using false population data to support your point.
From an ArenaNet perspective, PvP is the fastest growing part of Gw2 and had more success for us as a business in the last year than it’s had by far in the history of the Guild Wars franchise. Next year is going to be even bigger because of that success.
I’m really proud of the work the team has done and the work our amazing player community who has helped grow competitive PvP just as much as our dev team has and would hate to see that lost in this discussion.

One thing about this, the Free accounts are indeed playing in pvp, many of them are most likely trying it out, 2nd account, or friends of pvp’ers
but you should honestly wait another month or 2 to see how the free accounts are doing in pvp for a few reason.
1) Pvp can make or break players from buying the game (Ive known players that almost stop playing b.c of pvp)
2) If they stop pvping and at want ranks
3) are they doing Rank/unrank or just hot joins
4) Are they 2nd accounts? Are they accounts trying to get top LB’s or even “hack”
Free accounts are very fickle when adding to data numbers.
Im only saying this b.c I ran a business for 8yrs and we did Free 1-3 months all the time, After a couple years we Completely made Free members their own numbers in our books.

NO Gold
NO Exp
zero to nothing blooms.And for the sake of the legit ones who do the event from start to the end, they are rewarded with nothing because they get no stacks.
Yesterday i did it the legit way, i got about 9 stacks, and seriously, i’m looking more often on the map then doing the event. Today i did it the ‘hit and run’ way, et voila – 14 stacks..
You reward the people for skipping.
The f2p people gain no exp, no karma and no gold, why should they do the event for nothing? and the cost of the items is just a pain in the a.. You’ve to grind the whole four days.Guys hire a new event designer, or don’t know just get this crap event out of it..
+1, The Blooms isnt really the biggest problem, this is, Blooms anet could WANT to be really hard to get, so players cant buy everything easily….
But no Exp, karma, loot, gold along with 30min to non stop events, Wping costs, 1g-10g items and 30min of waiting around is just hideous to this game.
There is not a strong enough word that I know in order to say how bad this event is.
Makes me sad, I thought more would care about Halloween…..

runes of the trapper = no speedy runes, traps = no signet of Run Forest Run…

It won’t be viable in HoT. Look at all those reveals waiting for us. Anet doesn’t want us to stealth anymore.
Add reveal and Not wanting stealth are 2 different things, I personally think they will add the runes mostly b.c Dragonhunter uses Traps and they Dont have huch to make a trap build better.
But we will see.

You need the trap runes, and they arnt in pvp, I hope they will be when HoT comes out.
Healignis actually Good in this ame you can make a really good Healer, the thing is, THERE IS 0 REASON TOO.
And that is a good thing and a bad thing, You can do it in pvp and wvw a bit, but there are better ways to play and in pvE I would rather not be force to need a healer.
With that said, A Ele with right gear/traits can be a Healer just like in WoW and other MMO’s
A healing Ele Staff Auto attack while in Water can heal for 800 HP easily. Its 500hp with only Cele gear and no runes. Then with Water Fields and other healing from Regen and Dodges etc… You can make a really strong healer.
Dependa if you use Mesmer Portal Strats or not.
CM is one of the fastest in game to do all paths, (3-5min a path I mean really cant beat that).
but some speed clears of HOTW are less than 3min, SE p1 can be done in 3min.
It depends mostly on how hardcore do you want to play.
Those 3min Paths can take 15min in a pug group. SO remember its not always about the path, but about the group and play style
I will definitely try this out. Hoping Trapper runes is not expensive…. probably is.
About 3g to make all 6 I believe. Its something like 1 Gossamer and 1 Onyx Lodestone.
I personally have 3 sets of Med Ascended Armor, I was thinking of Making one into a WvW set, I too also was going ot wait for the Thief Elite spec, it could completely change the thief.
Will have to wait and see. but back in the day I ran Valk BS build it was so fun.
Did you try it with Some Valk armor? The added HP might be worth it in WvW.
I know hitting those autos is alot, but would the survival vs the 10% extra crit chance be worth it to you?
Making Valk armor kinda Viable, Wish thief could do Valk armor again.

Thieves dont need to be OP, just have room to play different styles without being handicapped.

I actually think they should increase the revealed time, and buff other forms of thief survivability to compensate.No no no. Increase reveal time? 4 seconds is long enough to get us killed. Not only that but our most efficient skills namely, Backstab, require stealth.
Thief and stealth is inherently bounded. Anet cannot expect to add a Reveal skill to half the professions AND expect Thieves to casually cope with this. Something has to be done, the more powerful the reveal, the weaker the Thief. This is a direct correlation.
Maybe they do need to rework on the Stealth mechanism like some of us are suggesting, but anyone who played thief just a few times would understand how deadly Reveal is most combats. For the Mesmer, Invisibility is optional, Trapper Ranger, Invisibility is clearly optional, I am pretty sure Stealth is not optional for the thief.
All those reveal mechanics makes me think Thief Elite spec with Staff will not have any invisibility skills.
I dunno. if we could take hits, then reveal would be less of an issue. the issue with reveal at the moment is that we’re squishy enough that we can die due to a single reveal quite easily. if we got to a point where we could tank hits enough to survive a reveal or two, then it’d have more to do with damage/positioning, and less with health.

Again you guys are assuming a thief that isn’t fighting is stealthed, if you’re always stealth you’re not doing anything…. You can’t capped while stealthed or do damage. Yes I’m up for adding up more ways than stealth that a thief can survive, but doing away with it completely is not an option.
We arnt always stealth, we use stealth to, do either or all, Heal, Removal Condi, Not to get hit with spike damage, and in general survive.
If we needed to get out of a situation and we are reveal, we are dead, if we need to remove that 9 burning and go to stealth, get revealed we re dead. If we needed to set up burst damage and get reveal, we cant burst.
Its going to get to the point stealth will almost be to hard to even use with to much counter play, Stealth doesnt need that much counter play.
But thief also doesnt need to be that dependent on stealth too.
Counter play is fine if thief wasnt so Dependent on it. Either make less counter play to it, or give thief more options.
Honestly Im for thief more options one.
I dont agree with making stealh harder to use/get. I like Stealth play. It adds to the game, it adds to pve, wvw and pvp, you take it away in one part of the game it goes away in all parts.
You will always have players that want to play the best possible way, WoW does it, Eve did it, every game does it.
But you have teh right to make your own groups and invite the people you want to play with.

This, Even if you go Stealth at same time or slightly after they press Unrelenting Assault, they will stay with you.
A 20sc CD AoE Reveal/blind that gives Fury isnt someone a Revenant will hold back on.
The expansion will still have the new skills/traits for others, If I want to pvp Im still fighting against those new traits/skills.
Anyways I love GW2 thats why I’m on the forums, so the game can be Better, not worst by saying insults.
There is something fundamentally wrong with the balance logic that is applied to thieves when you compare it to the logic applied to other classes. I can’t figure out what the devs think they’re balancing us against. Is stealth so hard to quantify in the balance equation that they just scream “kitten it” and start swinging the nerf bat?
A long time ago I posted that I would gladly give up stealth for the class just to shut the “nerf thieves” crowd up. Now that our class has been gutted, I think it’s time. Get rid of stealth and everything associated with it. Replace it with a “shadow” ability that leaves us visible but gives us some combination of hard to hit, hard to damage, or reduces crit chances against us, that sort of thing.
Stealth isnt a problem. You get reveal with 1 attack, you can still take damage, you move slower, etc…
Stealth adds to the game, why take something away that adds… its not game break in anyway at all.

That skin is one of the best in the world… it needs to be added again, it is truly an amazing skin its a worst for it not to be reused.

The trait line. Run a Fire/Air/Earth ele then, with no cantrips and a zerker amulet. Bet you wouldn’t survive 20s against anyone.

DPS build? Guard, engi, warrior, mesmer, necro.
By glass I mean Zerk/murader amulet with at least 1 trait line for Damage. All classes/builds take some type of condi cleanse, break stun etc..
Thief is no execption we still take something to breakstun and condi clear.
What point am I missing? The only actually viable counter stealth skill now is Lock On because you don’t have to take a valuable utility slot right now. You can take Sic Em, okay, but it wastes a utility slot for a 40s skill that does pretty much nothing else but reveal.
Other defenses like protection have counter skills like boon strip so why shouldn’t stealth have some too?
Edit: Damage isn’t a counter to stealth any more than damage is a counter to protection/regeneration/healing/anything that isn’t invincibility or blur
Engi, Ranger and now Rev all have Reveal skills/traits.
Sense Rev just got one, Im asking if reveal is to strong against thieves and if one day ALL classes will get reveal, thieves are so heavily traited for stealth it hurts us the most.
When is too much “Too much” so to say.
Also these skills and traits reveal us Longer than the normal reveal debuff which IMO is 100% terrible it should only reveal us for 3-4 sec like normal.
Damage is a count to Thief stealth, with Low HP, 0! blocks/defense and low HoT’s/condi removal if you just hit a thief 1 time with damage or put some condi’s stealth WONT help a thief.
Its like Poison vs healing, it is a counter, as Damage to Stealth is a counter when you cant stop the damage.

That’s what it is currently : a luck based evade. You never use DB taking into account the evade. It’s only “oh look, I actually dodged something this time! neat”
But maybe thats the point of the evade on DB, is to be able tod o damage without worrying to much “Im I doing to die if I do this” Its there as insurance and not a auto evade.
I personally wish it would add “lock” onto a target but the damage/timing of it is fine, it actually does alot of bleed damage to multi mobs.

Edit: Permanent blind may vary depending on enemy. Also Glint’s reveal is on a small radius (360), it’s nowhere near that of a shout (600)
Thats the problem, thieves already are forced into play a set way, we dont have options like other classes, and if Anet keeps adding ways to deal with our ONLY means to stop Incoming damage we will be garbage.
You just explain the 1 build we have for us, if Anet gives a few classes a way to deal with that build, what are we going to do then?

No sorry, we still have cooldowns, you still need to stealth to blind your enemy and that trait setup leaves you even more vulnerably than any other thief build – so yeah, the revealing in game is really bad for us and we got nothing in return.
You know shadow shot blinds right? All I’m saying is that you can keep your enemy blinded whenever you want.
At the cost of Initiative, you cant just do it forever, and if they have a block, Resistance or a multi hit attack, it will mean nothing.
You cant just run around going “blind Blind Blind” and expect to win the fight.
Anet do it, its been to long, it be a nice add on
I think thieves have been too reliant on stealth for too long, and if they keep adding counters to stealth, we’re gonna need some other kind of defense.
- we’re far too squishy at a baseline
- blinds are pretty situational (good against reaper, for example. try using it vs Hundred Blades or Rapid Fire, less so)
- our evades are more or less balanced around keeping us alive long enough to get back into stealth, and won’t last vary long by itself.
as it is, death blossom is negligible as an evade – and near impossible to time. some others are better, but not hugely.
if they’re gonna force us into standard combat, give us some standard tankiness.
With traits forcing us to use stealth that clears Condi, heals, blinds and give init etc…… Reveal just doesnt hurt our damage, but survivability too.
As a thief its very strong against us. You can already still damage us while we are stealth, taking away stealth from us just soft nerfs the class.
We DO need some Hard Defensive’s like you said. We need some type of standard Ignore X damage (Mist Form, Berserker stance, Endure Pain, Elixir S etc..)

Forgive me for being ignorant of this, but what did Revanant get that could apply reveal?
Glint new utility skill. Its a large AOE (Kinda of like a shout) that does Reveal and Blind.
Can this be changed to Unlimited like all the other nodes…. getting 15 a day per account is silly.
I understand Blossoming one 3x a day, but the Normally one doesnt need to be limited.
Revealed should always on low duration (3sec) I’m pretty sure they are not doing this because of thief but rather mesmer after they buffed PU while they gutted SA and Acro. I would have rather them de-stealth me without applying revealed I still wasted my initiative and CDs so that would be enough.
The skills that are getting it are very situational and questionable but I just hate the possibility that every class could eventually get revealed that it might just a hex as common as a condition.
I worry about this too, and is why Im talking about it.

So just a Community question, Are we getting too much Counter Stealth?
Thief has only 3 ways to defend its self.
- Evade
- Blind
- Stealth
Thief has ZERO
- Blocks
- Invuls
- Resistance
I dont mind Counters to stealth, but giving a Reveal time LONGER than the actual normal reveal is what I dont like.
I love the idea, but I have to agree about the camera work- It would’ve been nice to have a steady close up shot of the characters. With the camera moving around all the time, it’s difficult to have a good look at all of your design and hard work!
