I think I’m one of those people the RNG gods hate because people around me always get a lot more, more reliably

Maybe Anet should make a system that tracks how often people get a lot of bad RNG and if it gets to a certain amount that for a period of time the chances they get better loot increases till it balances it out.

Same with good RNG. That way it’s still RNG but not quite so extremely (un)favoured towards people at the far end of both spectrum’s.

I’m pretty sure he meant experienced with the dungeon at lvl 10 not to understand all the shorthand words the cool kids at 30+ use. You don’t need agony resistance at lvl 10 and if this is all the guy does (thus being experienced at the lvl 10 fractal) then it’s not odd that he might not have heard of AR.

You can be experienced with the dungeon without knowing the ropes at higher levels. So yes your definition of ‘experienced’ doesn’t apply. To be honest, I wouldn’t have inv you either if I got that kind of response of someone.

I did not start in the beginning. I started around the halloween event. And charged lodestone have not moved much since then. In fact I just farmed over 800g and just bought the missing pieces all at once ( Dawn, Lodestones and some other little things ). Sunrise has rose in price since then ( about 100 gold ) and the reason for that is mainly globs of ectoplasmn, mystic coins and some t6-materials – while other things like orichalcum fell. My point is: Did create my legendary with current prices in less than 3 monts without playing the tp. It is possible if you are willing to invest time.

Uhm, I’ve played over 2000+ hours since launch so I’ve played A LOT more than your average gamer. I was mostly doing dungeons all day when I got sunrise and I was lucky with dawn if I hadn’t been I’d still be trying to get it now.

I honestly can’t imagine how you got that much money from playing the game normally because I certainly didn’t and majority of my gold went towards sunrise and I started working towards it well before Halloween. I also had a lot of help from other people.

So I’m baffled how you managed to get 800 gold (which btw, the lover nearly costs now on it’s own). As I certainly don’t make that much from playing the game normally (which seeing as how much I play is hardly called normal).

Either you were very lucky or me very unlucky but from what people tell me they aren’t much better off than I am with gathering gold without using TP or grinding the same content all day (which I also wouldn’t classify as normal gameplay).

I invested a lot of time getting sunrise, A LOT so I’m really confused about your statement.

Obtained Sunrise after 2.5 months of playing =) Did not play the tp but bought items from there like charged lodestones ( No drop-luck ) and t6-mats. And I did nothing special: Fractals, Normal Dungeons, a bit orr and while doing that I finished a lot of achievments ( all jumping puzzle for example :P ) .
Oh and also never used any reallife-money.

The first 3 months gaining legendaries was still doable. However if you started now you wouldn’t be able to do it in 2.5 months is the point I’m making. Granted I agree it shouldn’t be as easy as it was at the beginning but it’s taking things too far now.

As I said it should be doable by playing the game normally between 4-8 months depending on how casually you play. I think that’s quite reasonable. Compared to what now would be about a year or more just for the precursor. Especially since they keep increasing in price.

Also have to keep in mind that every part of getting the legendary is now more expensive than the first 3 months though hopefully with the new things T6 mats won’t be quite as bad.

To be honest, I doubt its gold sellers causing the precursor issue. It’s those with a lot of money (players) that would horde such desired items and try to sell them for extortionate amounts of money.

Gold sellers aren’t stupid enough to discourage thousands of players from playing the game that’s making them a living because the nicest items are unobtainable, They wouldn’t put up items for money majority of players can’t spend. That doesn’t help their business.

I believe it’s largely the rich people providing the gold and items in exchange for real life money and also that they have horded precursors to craft into legendaries before the prices jumped up.

People leave games for these kind of reasons. Nobody likes that the hardest to get items are obtained almost entirely by gold and/or real life wealth and take over a year to realistically obtain by playing hardcore 24/7.

I hope Anet realizes that currently nobody can get that kind of money except for the trading post rich people (or the rare lucky people). 99% of the current population in the game cannot realistically get a legendary for a long long time if they start now. A good year or so just for a precursor alone (The lover being 700g for example).

Legendaries should be more about playing the game less about gold… a lot less. Please consider pushing the whole scavenger hunt idea. I have a legendary because I got lucky and had help and even I think this is ridiculous. Make an alternative way through playing the game to get such items.

A legendary shouldn’t take more than 4 months of hardcore playing to get or 8 months casually.

To be honest this thread is hilarious to me. People getting so angry, throwing tantrums over a unicorn and rainbows? Really?

There’s plenty of things with the game that should require attention over something this trivial yet there’s 7 pages worth of back’n’forth going out of control over a unicorn bow….. What…

Half the posts here love the dreamer, the others hate it. It’s not going to be taken away because a lot of people like the bow (myself included). There’s no point in throwing a tantrum about it because you aren’t forced to get the bow or to pay attention to it. I hardly notice it when people use one and I like it!

If you make an option to turn off the legendary effects it completely destroys the point of having them in the first place.

People need to realize there is a diversity in preference and learn to be more accepting of it. One person might like blue and if you hate it, does that mean they shouldn’t be allowed to use blue because you said so? No… Let us unicorn bow lovers have our bow, Since we let you have your serious business stuff without complaint.

I play asura myself, Radiation field allows us to use poison which we otherwise wouldn’t have so it’s good in dungeons for bosses/mobs that have a lot of healing output when there are no other professions with you who are better at applying reliable poison.

I have nothing against more difficult encounters and I haven’t done simins since the new patch. I will say though that the problem is that none of the other dungeon encounters are of this level of coordination, dps requirement, luck, timing and of course after already having spend a long time within the dungeon draining your energy.

I really feel there should be another difficulty mode added to dungeons. I feel that people should be able to do explorables in a more doable environment like most of them are now and get rewarded tokens. But have the same explorables tuned up highly to give a challenge to hardcore pve’ers with organised groups that award far better rewards.

You could include simins to this new category of difficulty.

I also feel that some of the storymode bosses are harder than half the explorable bosses. Make 3 difficulty levels.

- Storymode, Easy, lore driven introductory/tutorial type of dungeon. Make them even easier

- Explorables: Harder, pretty much mostly the same as they are now but reduce health bars, make them a tiny bit easier, balance the really harder fights to be much easier

- Hardmode: Have all fights tuned up with many new coordinated abilities like simin/subject alpha/lupicus. Bring back old-school searing effigy etc. Make them hard and unforgiving but completing them twice as rewarding. Also make it less about DPS but more about coordination and survivability/support.

That way, people get a challenge and those who can’t do hardmode can still enjoy the same content and at least some of the same reward. I know storymode was intended for this but storymode is completely different, less content for it and of course not nearly as rewarding.

I just want to remind everyone how people complained about precursors being expensive (200-300g) then the karka event happened that flood the market with them and people were happy they were finally cheaper to get. Well that didn’t last long because precursors are now 500-700g.

Now they flooded the market with lodestone but now everyone dumped their karma on the box’s and they nerfed orr again you will find the price will bounce back. Sure there will be more on the market but still not enough to make it that much cheaper in the long term. The market manipulators are rich enough not to let that happen if that’s what they wish.

Pink quaggan would be awesome! Dying them would be interesting. That said I’d rather you were able to use your discovered dyes as a choice for hair accessories. Hate having to use the default hues

I think they should make a more serious and a more funny or unique legendary for each weapon type so that there’s something for everyone rather than demanding them to take away a legendary a lot of people really like.

You know, it has nothing to do with being too manly or serious, or young.

I’m a 44-year-old man. I’m confident enough in my masculinity to wear pink shirts and ties. I’m old enough to think the idea of a bow that shoots rainbows is sophomoric and unrealistic – even in a fantasy setting. I’m at ease with purple butterflies. Anyone you meet who knows me would tell you that the last descriptor they’d use for me is “serious.” In fact, my girlfriend frequently complains that I don’t take things seriously enough. So you’re wrong on all of those counts.

Now, I can’t speak for anyone else, but I just think that you don’t have to have the fluffy bunny stuff in a game carrying the “Guild Wars” name. I have no objection to the bow itself. I object to it firing rainbow pretties. It is, frankly, stupid and very, very childish.

And the point in my previous post – anyone else’s opinion notwithstanding – is that Guild Wars has always been better than that.

It has never been in the same group as what I view as lesser games like WoW, Aion, Perfect World, Forsaken World, and all the other cookie-cutter MMOs (which GW2 really is – despite how much they want to say it’s different) that pander to the angsty teens who wander around clutching large pink kitten dolls and think it’s cool.

Any fantasy game requires a suspension of disbelief – a very high suspension – to be effectively immersive. For that immersion to work, things in the world have to make sense.

Like it or not, GW2 is actually fairly dark in its tone. Let’s think about that.

  • Bandits are everywhere
  • Lion’s Arch is an entire city of pirates (you know, CRIMINALS)
  • The Cursed Shores are full of dreary and depressing areas (to say nothing of undead Quaggan, for Kormir’s sake)
  • Dwarfs have been all but wiped out
  • The Black Citadel is quite possibly the most depressing example of reckless industrial abandon you could find. DETROIT would get depressed in the Black Citadel
  • Humans are a diminishing race – what’s left of them are in a constant struggle for survival from enemies on all sides
  • Norn are REFUGEES, living in a diminished state from 250 years ago – and now with the latest update they’re being driven further into exile from their homeland
  • Two giant Elder Dragons have risen so far (Kralkatorrik and Zhaitan). Four more are coming.
  • Entire swaths of Charr homelands have been turned into dead zones called the Dragon Brand, and Kralkatorrik’s crystal minions lurk the land – attacking anyone they come across
  • A shorbow shoots pretty rainbows
  • With the new rumblings in the northern Shiverpeaks driving Norn and other species south, it is likely that a third giant Elder Dragon (Jormag) will rise very soon, indeed
  • Evil Asura are running experiments on living and unwilling test subjects
  • Ghosts infest Ascalon and attack any living people who enter their domain
  • Centaurs – once often friendly toward others – now kill humans in their own homelands on a regular basis
  • The Nightmare Court consolidate more power

One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just doesn’t belong. ..

That’s why the ridiculous pretty rainbow kills immersion. This is a dark, dark, DARK game.

It’s got nothing to do with masculinity, seriousness or age. It’s got to do with something that doesn’t fit in the world it’s been shoved into.

I’m a 26 year old female, I like pink, rainbows and cute things as much as I like ‘masculine’ things like beer and games like gears of war 2. I think it’s your perception that anything pink, cute or consisting of rainbows is ‘Angsty Teenager’ stuff personally I think it’s quite a narrow minded attitude.

Colours have nothing to do with level of maturity and unicorns for example have quite a mature historical background in the form of mythology. If you actually look at the bow without associating the unicorn with my little pony the unicorn being shot is quite a majestic steed and the rainbow mane beautiful. The bow itself is a piece of art as well, delicate.

This is all about cultural perception and what people associate with things. Just because something is used in a child’s program doesn’t mean it on its own merits is therefore childish/immature.

Maybe try look beyond first association and appreciate things on their own merits, if you still don’t like it that’s fine that’s your opinion but don’t compare people who do like those kind of things with ‘angsty immature teenagers’. The fact that you feel you are superior to those who do like those things is the immature attitude here if anything.

Also, Not everything needs to be serious within the game. In reality we have wars and awful things but we also have adorable, beautiful things. Nobody complains about those things ruining immersion in reality.

Wouldn’t hurt to give us the display option to turn the “rainbow flashiness” off for those moments where you want a little immersion or less rainbowness overall.

What is wrong with rainbows? They’re a real natural occurrence. As for in game it’s not that far fetched with purple butterflies (mesmer) green moths (necro) flying books (guardian) pink moas (rangers) shiny blue ghosts (Ascalonians) quaggan (obvious)

The list of colourful and/or strange magic and/or cute and/or funny things is endless in this game. It’s not ruining immersion that type of thing is already part of the game.

I hear nobody complaining about how unrealistic it is to have a sword that shows the universe inside it…. People need to lighten up up really it’s a game, it’s meant to be fun.

What’s with the rage about a unicorn rainbow bow. I think it’s great, unique and original in stead of the usual typical ‘moar spikes, moar black and deadly flames and skulls’ type of legendaries in most games.

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion and of course if you don’t like it you don’t like it but there’s other legendaries that are the cool type so something light hearted and funny is refreshing to be honest. I like it

Actually I think I know what might’ve been causing my confusion. When the build hit last night I was at the grand piazza area and they obviously just put back the Lion statue.

Maybe somewhere in the back of my mind it felt like the FoV changed subconsciously so I then started thinking there were changes everywhere but it was maybe just the change with the statue causing a difference in depth. Probably is related to too much playing…

There have been no documented changes in the patch notes related to the FoV as far as we know. The idea stated by Iruwen of comparing 2 screenshots could be helpfun anyway.

Thanks, I just realized I still use -testVerticalFov but I didn’t notice a difference when I turned it off. I guess I am really imagining it… weird… I shall go bang my head against a brick wall for being silly

You’re a few months behind. They made the fov change about 2 months ago.

I think they might have been referring to a change, in addition to the horizontal FoV “fix” they implemented back in November.

Yes, I’m not referring to the one a while ago. I meant the one that happened with this new patch or at least it feels like it has changed to me I can’t pinpoint what has changed but when I logged back into the game last night after the patch hit it seemed changed to me.

I was just wondering if there was a change made or if it’s my mind imagining things. It still feels different to me today on both my human thief and asura. It’s annoying me to no end!

It appears it’s only happening with Female Asura and not any other race/gender I’ve seen yet. It worked fine before patch because I tend to use it here and there

Whenever I do /shrug on my female Asura it does the shrug animation and sound several times rather than just once. I’ve not tested it on other characters yet but I made a video of it. It’s rather funny:

Dailies and Forced Grouping - Not Fun

I get the feeling too many people feel entitled to have the game cater to their specific needs perfectly. It’s just not possible in an MMO to cater to everyone perfectly. I can’t think of a single MMO that doesn’t one way or another make people do things they don’t necessarily enjoy that much in order to get a reward they want (that or have them otherwise go without).

If anything Guild Wars 2 rewards a far larger variety of choices to gain rewards than any other MMO I can think of. They already stated they will add additional ways to get ascended armor in the long run but they want to trickle them into the system slowly.

To be honest I can’t think of any game that is entirely perfect in every way shape and form for a specific persons desires. There’s always something the player wouldn’t mind changed or improved.

The dailies are fine. They take no time at all to do 30 minutes or less (Gendarran Fields is great for kill variety, underwater, events and NPC reviving in bloodfields for example). Regardless of the many many examples I give as to how the dailies could be easily achieved, it’s still beside the point of some peoples posts in this thread.

All I read between the lines here is that people refuse to do anything ever that may require them to do something they don’t entirely enjoy that is easy and fast because they are only willing to do it if it’s perfectly catered to them. I’m sorry but this is incredibly unrealistic and over entitled demand that can’t ever be expected to be realistically forfilled.

Ask for improvements sure, but don’t demand perfection 24/7 with no room for error to be exactly how you alone want it. It’s not going to happen. The game might be set in a fairytale, fantasy world but this game is still tied to the rules of reality, of differing opinions.

Why can’t people just stomach a couple of minutes of doing something different from what they usually do for a reward? I honestly don’t get that…

And underwater Trident wasn’t buffed, it was nerfed. There’s even a thread that’s titled “Underwater Nerf/Change”

Please report posts that violate the forum code of conduct (the little flag in the bottom right) to bring them to the attention of the moderation team. If you feel you are being attacked or a player is attacking others, please do report, as the moderators cannot be everywhere all the time.

To be honest I’ve reported several posts in the past but no action was ever taken, no infractions given or the post removed/edited. Yet I’ve seen posts that are a lot less offensive or barely in breach of the code of conduct be removed or infracted so it’s a bit confusing when blatant insults/attacks on other forum members get ignored and the vaguest of code breaches gets swiftly punished. Unless there is some sort of backlog and/or some reports don’t make it through, I’m personally a bit confused….

Culling not Fixed

They never said this patch fixed culling but was the first groundwork step towards the big culling fix in February. They said culling is still there. They just made adjustments to what the culling loads being Enemies and Allies get loaded half/half rather than whoever is nearest to you (which is usually all allies). While also testing the system of placeholder models for lower spec machines.

Here’s is the quote:

In the January update we’ll be making a couple of preliminary changes to WvW.
1. The first of our engine changes will be coming on line to help improve character load times by using fallback models.
2. We’ll be switching over to the culling methodology that we trialed in December.

The engine change we’re making uses fallback models to represent characters until their detailed models are fully loaded. The fallback models are cached so that they can display without any asset load delay and there is a distinct fallback model for each race/gender/armor-class combination. As a result of this change players will be able to see characters represented as fallback models as soon as those characters are reported to the client. Once the specific, detailed model for a given character is completely loaded from disk the fallback model will be replaced with the detailed model. This visual compromise will help to ensure that players see other characters as quickly as possible in WvW. Please note that this change does not eliminate delays due to culling, it only addresses delays due to asset load times. Players on higher spec machines would therefore expect to see fallback models less often than players on lower spec machines. This change also lays the groundwork for more extensive uses of fallback models in future updates.

In December we ran a one matchup trial of an updated culling system. Based on all the feedback we received, both during and after the trial, we will be transitioning to the updated culling system that we used in the trial. This update allows the culling system to handle allies and enemies separately so that being surrounded by a group of allies will not impact the culling of enemies (and vice-versa). The general consensus after the trial is that this system lead to a better player experience in WvW. We further saw that some of the issues people had with the new system were related to asset load times rather than culling issues so making this change in combination with our character loading improvements should lead to an improved overall experience. It is important to note, however, that while we believe this change is an improvement to the WvW experience it does not fully address the issues with culling and we are still working towards our goal of removing culling from WvW completely. This change is intended to give players an improved WvW experience while we continue work on our more comprehensive solution.

While this update only contains a couple of visible changes to WvW it lays a lot of important groundwork for future updates. We have some exciting changes coming and this update is just the beginning!

Culling not Fixed

This made it worse for me, before i rarely had an issue and that was only for groups of about 50+. now groups of 10 are just appearing on me. But my guildmates said it made it better. Seems to be if you have a high end system its worse, a low end system is better.

I have a high end system and it works great so I don’t think it has anything to do with that.

The way I think culling currently works is that it tries to distribute culling between both allies and your enemies rather than cull your enemies entirely but load all your allies.

I think it’s better this way temporarily because you might not be able to see correct numbers and some of your allies might disappear but at least you can see both sides.

The only noticable time it freaks out a bit is when you both have huge zergs then the system seems a bit confused as to what to load or not. Otherwise I’ve seen a vast improvement.

I’m a bit confused why people are saying it’s worse because I can see enemy zergs easily now without an issue from quite a far distance. I might not be able to see all of the enemies at the same time because the culling is still there but at least I know they are there. Before you wouldn’t see them at all till it was too late.

They did say this is the groundwork and not ‘THE’ actual culling fix. So I think until they bring out the actual fix this is a great solution to the problem. You can already see the improvement in zerg tactics as suddenly you can’t hide behind culling anymore.

That said I haven’t really done any skirmishing yet so I don’t know if there are problems there but I didn’t notice any when running around.

I wholeheartedly agree with the OP, I’m glad dungeons are being made more challenging, interesting and requiring teamwork & friendly communication. Elitists speed running PuGs have been having their hands held for far too long with this supposed ‘difficult’ content.

Personally I would add an additional mode to the dungeons. One that is harder than explorable. Make Storymode easier (some are still far too difficult) and make the current explorable mode sort of in between the current explorables and storymode, difficulty wise.

That way people still have access to the content in a casual way for farming but the harder modes are as explorables were intended… for the hardcore coordinated PvE teams.

Grind to get to the content, Grind to get the right drops from the content, Grind to stay awake during the content for the hundreth time. Grind your face off the keyboard as you try and figure out where it all went wrong for this game…

Alternatively, Grind the daily’s for a short while and get a laurel, log out… Play a better game.

If you don’t enjoy the game or the content, don’t play it. Simple as that. Coming on a forum of a game you don’t enjoy just to complain about it doesn’t add anything constructive or helpful.

As for me personally, I don’t like fractals that much so I don’t do them (Except for monthly). But I can see that there are people who like that type of content, progression and way of earning gear and I don’t see why they shouldn’t be allowed to do so.

I’ve got plenty of alternatives that I find enjoyable to get gear like the original dungeons that I much prefer. There are a multitude of options to work towards things in the game, laurels is just another way to do so and they will continue to add ways to be rewarded. I think it’s great that they add such a variety of ways to accomplish something.

But, of course they can’t please everyone and Guild Wars 2 isn’t for everyone just like with every other game. Some people will say something is too easy when others say it’s too hard. Some people will hate something within the game that others love. The variety in this game is great. Focus on the things you do enjoy.

I think people are forgetting that the higher level fractals were specifically designed for the hardcore crowd that wants to work a long time towards something as well as difficult content.

As I said ascended gear was never meant to be easy to get but at least they will be adding more ways over time to get them. It’s of little need unless you do higher level fractals as it stands. Exotics will do you just fine otherwise.

If you don’t want to work for the gear then the content is just not for you there are tons of other options of things to do and work towards within the game that are easier and faster. The vast majority of the game is for the casual players. Let the hardcore ones have something as well.

It’s not like you or blocked from doing fractals all together you can still enjoy it at lower levels and get decent rewards for them. People just expect everything to be handed to them and think they should be entitled to everything with ease.

Well, some want and should be rewarded for working hard and long for something. They are entitled to content that suits them as much as the casuals have theirs.

It’s just an excuse for trolls to behave badly, can’t blame Anet for the actions of a few. Especially since NPC count as well so you don’t actually need other players to accomplish it. Plenty of dead NPC laying around in the world.

Even if you don’t like a specific daily achievement, They are all so easy and quick to do that it’s ridiculous to complain about it being grindy, It took me no time at all to complete it.

Sorry but if you can’t take 10 seconds to craft some items and 5 minutes to kill some mobs you might as well not play the game at all since you wouldn’t have time to do anything within it regardless.

You can get items far more reliably now, less RNG is less mindless grind and it will push down prices on the TP making things easier to obtain. Now you can work towards things in a more guaranteed way with Laurels and if you don’t want to do dailies you can still get gold to buy it on TP. Yet still people complain?

Next people will start to demand everything is just handed to them… Come on…!

As for ascended gear they always stated it would be between exotic and legendary tier wise, it’s not going to be as easy to obtain as exotics but they will be adding more ways of getting ascended gear in the long run. This is just one more way.

Give it time, it’s only a few extra stat increases compared to exotics which wont make a huge difference and the only area where it matters in game currently is in high level fractals.

Glad the list is of help, Looks like us Mesmers came out alright with the new patch so there is no need for me to add the out-of-date star * in front of the current builds. They should still work pretty well as it stands.

A crappy picture of frenzy, was taken in the dark to show the new boiling aura, how it looks in the dark and effects on a video i’ll probably upload tomorrow.

The changes to that weapon were:

-An explosion (like burst of boiling water around the weapon) when drawn along with a swarm, and i mean it, of fish rushing toward the weapon.

-Boiling water around your character

-The fish popping mechanic was massively changed, FAR more noticeable than before and visually more pleasant.

It’s bugged atm since it sometimes reverts to the old effects (meaning no aura, old popping mechanic) but i’m overall really pleased with the changes.

So far I’ve noticed a big improvement in culling, I can actually see large amount of my enemy now from a distance this definitely makes a huge difference. It’s no longer about who can surprise who most with culling anymore it’s about tactics, So much fun!

Also, even though it says it counts for PvE as well I still can’t see people in Lion’s Arch till I’m on top of them (pretty much) so I guess it was only implemented in WvW.

I’ve also noticed a large increase in bags/loot dropping, I’m getting bags a lot easier now which is great, it was desperately needed (as well as the new chests, they drop like the loot bags but are bigger and obviously chest shaped, I guess it makes it easier to see them and so you are more inclined to go for them first).

So sure, these two things aren’t massive updates but the improvement in rewards and culling are massive improvements on their own (In my opinion anyway).

I’m happy with the patch but would also love to see massive improvements in the guild UI, MOTD should be posted in the chat when people login for example. Last login is a must. Stacking in guild vault. Guild missions I guess were pushed to February? Of course would love guild halls and doing mini-games with guild groups etc.

I was kind of expecting a lot more from this patch. Mainly because Anet is always very vague about patches and only reveal a small portion of the things that end up being implemented.

So, I didn’t expect the things they revealed would be quite so literal in amount. Still even if it isn’t a huge amount it’s still an improvement on many fronts that I can tell so I can’t complain. Plus I’m sure it took a lot of work to code all of these things and we still have February patch to look forward to.

Also, I see nothing about Guild Missions in the Patch notes :/ Also what happened to the AOE adjustments? I’m guessing they are both scheduled for February patch?
