They need to add a better option for LFG in general than spamming chat. The one thing that annoys me most is mailing people. They should remove suppression or severely increase the amount of mail you can send to guild members and mutual friends (As in they have you in their friendslist and you have them on your friendslist).
Gold spammers won’t be able to spam but at least I can send mail easily to all my guild members keeping them up-to-date on news (which MOTD doesn’t do since nobody ever really opens guild panel except for guild leaders.. That or come up with a far better way of displaying MOTD).
Also helps with being able to send items (Like some gear I crafted for a newcomer to the game to help them out). At the moment I get mail suppression every 2-3 mails. I understand the reason behind it but it shouldn’t include mutual friends and guildies.

Yea I quickly reached the 999 screenshot limit, I just put the old ones in a new folder now I’ve even past the 2000 screenshot mark.
I am one of these hardcore players and the only thing I ever asked for is fixes and improvements in UI like trading post, guild abilities etc. The only extra content I asked for is for something to do with my guild that’s not WvW which they are adding soon. Which isn’t because I demand more content but rather the need to have something to solidify a community.
True there are a lot of people who go through the game in no time and then complain about lack of end game. I’m one of the hardcore people but I don’t have that complaint.
I’ve had a lot of hours clocked playing this game and I still love it, still enjoy it, still find things to do. New content would be nice of course but it’s mostly the bug fixes and improvement in existing systems that I’d like to see put in place. I’m in no rush I do what I feel like.
To be honest the people I hear complain most are casuals, more specifically they get to lvl 80 then feel like there is no end game because they don’t like the options for things to do (Like getting a legendary, ascended gear, all dungeon paths, wvw/spvp titles) nobody forces you to do these things but they are a lot of work. People go through the leveling content and then get bored by choice.
I feel like you can’t really complain about end game because after you’ve lvled up a few characters, done a lot of wvw, all dungeons, at least world completion, at least full exotic gear and done some sPvP.
I can guarantee once you’ve done all that you will have clocked so many hours of playtime that you can’t really then complain that there wasn’t enough to do. I’m pretty sure the devs understand this.
Part of the great thing about GW2 is that it doesn’t have a sub, people who get bored can leave and do other things. Then come back when new content is released.

Heartbroken because of downgrading yourself in a guild?
Involving Anet as the badboy then?
???
Excuse me, really?
It’s not Anets fault no, well it is in that they didn’t program in a warning message but ultimately it’s the OP’s fault for making the mistake.
That said I feel it’s a large enough error that exception for such occasions should be made or a better system put in place since the game allows for these big mistakes to be made far too easily, without warning. This is only something Anet can fix and/or improve which is what people are requesting.
Same with salvaging legendary items/destroying them there should be an additional warning message, a more obvious one. As well as remove right click ‘kick from guild’ from party frame/roster or at least add a warning/confirmation box when clicked.
Absolutely agree. That’s sloppy programming that should never have made it past the BWE’s. I am super curious why they won’t help the OP. It’s not like they couldn’t just verify the story and then change the Guild Leader back.
There was loads reported and suggested during BWE’s that weren’t changed/fixed and still haven’t over all this time. So us beta testers did try to suggest and report all problems best we could. Guilds, overflow and parties were barely functional during and after beta.
Luckily we are now seeing some improvements on various fronts I’m waiting to see what happens in the upcoming patch although I doubt there will be more added than what they have already revealed going by last patch which barely added/fixed anything that was truly important, only a couple of major things.
UI and Guild improvements are for me some of the major things that require some changes now a few of these things will be implemented. I’m very happy to see they’ve been listening in regards to that.
I just hope they will fix OP’s problem, They should have the evidence to see she is telling the truth or not and this is definitely one of those unique times where they should intervene. The current protocol they have in place for this situation with the ‘deal with it, your own fault’ is just…no
I really hope Anet fixes this for you. The guild ranking system is pretty confusing and unclear. This demonstrates how unforgiving a mistake with it can be as well. Kind of like the ‘Kick from guild’ instead of ‘Kick from party’ problem times 100.
People can say ‘Oh pay attention then’ but seriously humans make mistakes, it happens. It’s easy to be distracted or not really thinking it all through and in regards to the guild ranking there’s nothing there to really explain it nor obviously any warnings.
That it’s a human mistake is no excuse not to fix your problem. Saying ‘oh wait for this inactive person to come back who may or may not give it back to you’ is unacceptable.
Also for the people saying start a new guild, 6 months worth is a lot of influence gain, queues build. For your guild to be recognized by name. It’s a huge loss even for a smaller guild. A human mistake does not warrant this kind of punishing. Not when it’s something of this scale.
I can understand not fixing things like buying the wrong item or salvaging it (except maybe a legendary) but loss of a guild must be devastating and is too big a mistake for it to be ignored.
I personally fully support you and hope it will be fixed for you.

Nobody has any opinion on this idea? Or other suggestions to fix the problems surrounding the chasm between newcomers and speedrunners?
I was going to post this as a reply to sub80 topic but wanted to see how people would feel about this idea and it was slightly off topic.
I put this in the dungeon section because I felt this is an important discussion, rather than arguing back’n’forth on who is right/wrong about gear/level elitism and helping newcomers to instead try to come up with solutions that could get rid of the problem.
I think a way to fix the problem of gear and levels in dungeons is to make it more like sPvP.
Within the dungeon a window pops up allowing you to adjust your stats on each gear piece before you can continue and have access/set up all traits, regardless of level. That way it doesn’t matter which level someone is their gear doesn’t make a difference as you get the same choices no matter what level.
You would also keep the look of your gear as you will only be changing the stats of the gear and not the skins themselves. Any empty slots of gear/trinkets are automatically filled with white rarity place holders so you don’t miss pieces of gear.
Once selected next time you enter the dungeon the same stats are remembered so you can quickly press continue. Once everyone pressed continue you can move along with the dungeon.
During stat/trait selection people can choose to leave the dungeon after a 3 minute timer has gone past and people have not yet pressed continue to prevent people from stalling the dungeon too long or people leaving too quickly not giving people a chance to alter stats.
The only difference would be player skill/experience. Which isn’t necessarily tied to level. I see loads of lvl 80’s who are terrible at dungeons and plenty lvl 35’s who are new to the game or alts that do a much better job.
I would still recommend certain level requirements for dungeons just to ensure the person has played on that character/profession long enough that they aren’t completely clueless.
Then people can stop being antisocial about gear/level and dungeon devs would also be able to balance dungeons easier.
As an added thing you could make it so weapon and utility skills are separated so you can balance them to be more effective within dungeons. Like confusion on mesmers are pretty useless in dungeons and perhaps allow for more condition stacks to be applied etc. Kind of like how they nerfed/buffed certain abilities in sPvP only.
Do you think this would fix the problem and make dungeons a friendlier place? Easier to balance? Can you think of any better/additional ideas to fix the negative community problems in regards to dungeons?
(edited by Fay.2735)
As someone who is new to Mesmer (as in, level 9 and really struggling with wrapping my head around the core mechanics of the class) I have to say… I didn’t like your Basics guide. Basically, all the guide said is “try everything and use what you like best”
With no offense meant.. I didn’t need to read a two page guide just to tell me to “try different stuff out”. What I’m looking for, as a new player, is something that tells me things like how to handle the clones, or the shatter effect, to make the most of those. What each weapon is useful for. Stuff like that.
Yup that is coming
I build the website in about two days so I haven’t had a chance to write a more in-depth second part to the basic guide but I will be doing that no worries
At the moment trying to juggle fixing my computer, running my guild and some other things with making the guides. I’ll keep you posted when I finish writing in-depth information.
Edit: Made some adjustments to the link description to indicate better that there is a more in-depth version coming soon.

The dodge daily is my favourite, it’s just fun to pick a mob you never normally bother dodging with and see if you can get your dodge timed right for their attacks. If anything it’s good practice!
The problems listed in this thread has nothing to do with the dailies or Arenanet. The problem is the community. Give the slightest leeway for a selfish or aggressive/superior attitude and plenty of people will take up on it (Take for example LFG dungeon problems with people demanding certain professions/gear/levels).
If you start removing all possibility for someone making a choice between being friendly or unfriendly from the game you might as well make a linear single player game with zero choice options, it’s the nature of online communities. Only time it becomes a real issue is if it becomes generally accepted to act badly (Like with the above mentioned LFG problem).
That said, it also means that doing good and helping others within the community should feel more rewarding to you knowing not so many people would do that. Who cares if you get yelled at for it? Be safe in the knowledge that you tried to make a nice gesture
sometimes that has to be enough.
Fay, you know I love the mantra based builds (you made me a believer for sure) and also very much appreciate the new Gaia build as this past couple weeks I have been taking a break from the phantasm/mantra support build to craft a condition/shatter build myself. I’m having a great time with it and may try yours out as well. I play GS/Staff for an all ranged style. I’m 20/20/5/0/25 but the 20 in chaos vs dueling is intriguing …
Main reason for it is being glass cannon isn’t ideal when doing WvW at least when running a condition build you need to last long enough for the conditions to do the damage the extra toughness is nice.
With Chaos, when clones get killed they apply random conditions, you get the cooldown decrease on staff and of course extra boon duration and minor traits for additional survivability. This will allow you to last longer .
Because it’s mainly a condition build crit and precision aren’t favourable as obviously conditions don’t crit. Then there’s the traits you can choose, for example Deceptive Evasion in duelling isn’t really needed for clone generating because you get plenty of those from weapon and utility skills. Then most other traits you can choose from are not that great for the build. There’s some possible options there but again the crit/prec…
But because you still have power in your build you do better sustained direct damage and with the bursts from shattering it gives the build that edge it needs. As well as additional condition application and more AOE effects.
It also gives access to the torch trait giving you emergency condition removal/stealth escape as well as great ways of confusing the enemy, applying confusion/retaliation. Scepter/Torch is great for 1v1 whilst the staff is better for groups of people.
I just personally felt Chaos was a far better trait line to go for in a condition build with shatter as extra burst than Dueling. If it were a power focused shatter build then yes dueling would be the better option.

Ty for the add, but those trait specs have been changed. The sample Chaosmancer setup is now.
0/20/20/25/5 and for now its recommended for PvE/WvW
I made the adjustments
I’ve also added my own new builds and guides as well as the glamour build by playandchill.
I’ve decided to make a website to host my builds and guides. You will find I added two new builds as well as a very simple starter guide.
One of the new builds is a support mantra hybrid and the other one doesn’t use any mantras at all but rather is a condition/shatter build. Let me know what you all think
Just found out that Dulfy (from dulfy.net) is a Mesmer!
http://dulfy.net/2013/01/07/gw2-fractal-of-the-mists-fotm-guide/#comment-759460664
and the build he uses is almost the same with this one I present here!
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-Ng-Fc;0VPV1107BVV71;9;4JJ-O429-19;247Z::)
I thought Dulfy was a woman?
Nice builds though, I don’t really run fractals myself as I got bored with how slow progression is. I like hard content from the get go and not repeat the same easier version over and over to get to the fun stuff. For dungeons though power builds or support builds are both great.
1. What will be the Influence cost for the various guild missions? I’d like to know if our guild should be saving up before patch or not. I want to make sure we can do them.
2. Is there a limit how many guild missions you can do every day? As in is there a time lock on them?
3. There was mention of strangers being able to join, will guild members get better reward than strangers? I’d personally prefer this or why else call it guild missions…
4. The perks mentioned like cheaper waypoint costs. How long do they last?
(edited by Fay.2735)
Pretty much as the video shows above, it’s constantly repeated very often it doesn’t sound like a normal sigh someone makes it just sounds like explicit moaning and it’s really quite over the top.
I got hundreds of chests sitting in my bank unopened because I wouldn’t pay for keys. They are far too expensive. If I do wan’t a booster I simply buy one directly so I’m guaranteed one I need but honestly I rather play a couple extra hours to have the same result you get from a booster than fork out lots of money for them and sometimes I’ll get one rarely from the game itself which is enough for me.
skorpious, can you link the post where a dev say that?

(edited by Fay.2735)
This is quite funny in a way because I remember originally nobody wanted mesmers in their group. Now its all mesmers/warriors.
This is not just a problem for roleplayers it’s an issue for guilds in general as well. To be able to easily meet up in the same place whenever people are in Lion’s Arch or for guild events its impossible.
There are a lot of fun things that we could do as a guild in Lion’s Arch but queue times can take up to an hour or more. I like to be able to pop into Lion’s Arch for 10 minutes to craft or go to the bank and see my guildies, friends and ally guilds around to talk to and when I do get into non-overflow I never see that many people as OP said to warrant an overflow.
Which brings me to another pet peeve, the culling in cities. It breaks immersion so badly to not be able to see anyone until you are right on top of them for a few seconds. Anything two steps away from you disappears.
I can’t see people around me at all it’s horrible and one of the things that has really bothered me since launch. It should be more realistic where I can see people from a distance you’d be able to see them IRL.
I want to be able to see and be with my guildies and friends in cities at least. Please fix the overflow and the view distance.
I’m well aware of a lot of elitist and/or speed run groups. The problem I see in this case is not with the game or those problematic groups (which are a serious issue within the community) but rather that it seems you’ve given up without even really trying.
There are a lot of nice people out there who help newcomers to dungeons, take things slow etc. you can’t expect them to just be there for you you have to work to find them just as they need to find you.
Join a more active guild, try gw2lfg.com specify that you are new and want to do a dungeon in a relaxed atmosphere etc. Throwing your hands up in the air after trying once and in the wrong manner is a bit extreme and hardly the games fault not even those PuGs.
Just have to find a steady dungeon group or people who think likewise to add to your friends list and do them with them.

As you can see in my signature I’ve played over 2100 hours. Like you I dislike PvP in other games BUT when about a month ago I actually started to play WvW and sPvP I found I really enjoyed it. As long as you run with an organised guild or play it with friends. I was surprised how much I like it when I usually despise PvP. I would definitely recommend giving it a proper try.
The Mantra of Recovery/Mantra of Pain combo intrigues me, although I’m undecided whether the loss of DPS is worth the heal (probably yes in my case).
For context, yes, I do run in organised guild raids in WvW. That’s why Portal is mandatory for me regardless of the number of Mesmers we have available, which then makes Blink a necessity. So the last slot is either the promise of heal spam (which then suggests I should deck myself in Cleric gear) or daze spam (which then suggests I should deck in regular DPS gear).
Guess I’ll do the smart thing and get both.
If you mostly run with an organised guild you’ll be less likely to have much use of daze as it’s single target and better for skirmishing, you could in stead try Mantra of Concentration in stead of distraction so you will have 3 stun breakers in stead of one + the heal for charging the mantra + stability. In stead of blink you could use portal.
Just an idea I haven’t experimented with MoC as much yet but thinking about this gave me the idea that in the mantra support build I’m working on I might be able to use it to give myself stability then use signet of inspiration to give those around me stability as well…. Interesting.
You could spam heal, give stability… granted it has the usual 5 people limit I believe but it’s still an interesting additional guardian type support method for a zerg without giving up the damage that’s lacking on support guardians. I’ll have to test all this out tomorrow…
Illusionary Leap is probably the buggiest skill (animation wise) that the mesmer has (that I can think of). As already mentioned clones like to suddenly halt a moment for no apparent reason. Get stuck behind the slightest deviation on the ground. If someone runs directly away from you they keep stopping and moving making the ability miss entirely half the time.
They really need to fix this somehow it’s doing my head in yet it’s such an important and useful skill. I rather the clone spawned at the enemy than run there so it’s far less likely to miss.
A bow? On a Mesmer? hmmm… While it would be cool. I think not… Anet said that Scholar classes cannot and should not use Bows/rifles/shields/maces. Kinda like adventurer classes cannot use scepters/staves/maces etc etc…
I know bows won’t happen but I just think it would be cool
plus I like the feel of bows in this game so it makes me wish I had one even more so.
Been trying out the build and doing my best to wrap my head around it. The one that still confuses me is Mantra of Pain. Testing it* reveals its abysmal DPS, i.e. 594 DPS. This is compared to 846 DPS with the Mind Slash chain or 780 DPS with Greatsword Spatial Surge.
At best, it’s a 2k heal every 5.25s. But I have to weigh that against a stun breaker (Blink), daze (Distraction), and Portal for WvW. For PVE, as noted, it’s DPS is lacking and classic dungeons don’t have situations where a badly injured character wouldn’t be better off fully disengaging from the fight to heal up. I’m not sure how effective it is at counteracting Agony as I don’t run Fractals.
Curious to have your (further) thoughts of this. Is Mantra of Pain really worth the slot?
Mantra of pain is brilliant to spam heal people around you when required as well as provide an additional burst which balances out the dps loss from using vitality for protection.
Also you will find my build actually has blink, you will need it to survive and Mantra of distraction. As for portal unless you run with a zerg that specifically requests it of you there isn’t really a need to have one equipped as 9/10 there will be a mesmer around you who will have one equipped. As for spvp I have to say my build is hardest in spvp setting and you might have to play around with it more in that setting.
I’m currently playing around with some builds. I’ve been testing a glass cannon power mantra build and wow so much damage output but of course it makes you drop like a fly in no time if you make mistakes.
I’ve also devised a support build which uses mantra of pain as well as the normal boons/buffs to do some stellar support. I will be posting all my build ideas when I finalise them.
The point of the Panacea build for me was to balance doing decent damage with not being squishy and doing support all in one. In WvW especially you tend to go from zerg to skirmishing to requiring more support in a matter of minutes.
But I also wanted something that worked in dungeons and spvp without having to re-spec/swap gear/change playstyles all the time.
Most builds tend to specialise a lot more so where you will shine with one thing, as soon as you’re put in another situation you will tend to be at a disadvantage. I wanted the versatility of combat in WvW to reflect in the build.
It’s a solid start, you can play around from there decide whether you want more dps or more support. That said in PvE if you are familiar with the dungeons you won’t really need the vitality at all and can quite safely go without additional gear/rune vitality and you should then have a lot more damage output.
I also tend to swap a mantra in favour of a more supportive utility in anticipation of certain dungeon fights. It’s important to stay flexible in dungeons
I barely find any need for dazes in dungeons for example. The condition removal mantra is far better for dungeons.
I doubt we will be seeing any new weapons any time soon. They haven’t even fixed/balanced everything properly yet. That said I would love to be able to use a bow and duel pistols.
Don’t get me wrong, I find no fault with your categorizing. I was just looking through them, and there appears to be not very many that actually focus on phantasm damage.
I can make a note behind it to state it’s based on phantasm damage?
(edited by Fay.2735)
Hi i wanted to make the same thread, lucky i found yours. I’ve a similar issue.Upon buying the bouquet of roses i tested it,then i swap weapon after finishing testing. After which i could not find it in my inventory anymore. Its an equipable account bound item. Please inform us first if this 400gem item is a consumable 1 time use only. I hope its a bug and that this item is re-useable.
It’s not a consumable, sounds like it’s a bug as it’s working fine for me.
But you can, You can throw the bouquet to anyone and they can use the first three skills for free for 2 minutes. If you really want to buy all 5 skills for someone to permanently use send them the gold to exchange for gems (or real money).
Right, are you going to give your gf money so she can buy herself roses this <3 day? Let me know how that goes for you.
I’m a girl not a guy. If your girlfriend is a gamer and likes in-game presents over real ones she’s going to appreciate you getting it for her regardless of how it’s achieved and will realize how the game works.
If she’s going to freak out about it then either you need to get a new GF or maybe pay some real life attention to her.
Seriously? They announced that transfers would be paid for months now. If you don’t like empty servers why did you stay there? Vabbi is renowned for being empty for long time and Arborstone has been going downhill before paid transfers as well. Should’ve transferred while it was free simple as that you can’t complain about it now.
The paid transfers are needed for server and especially wvw stability. With guesting now available and cross-realm dungeons the only reason to transfer is WvW so I really don’t think it’s an unfair price to pay.
And as someone mentioned some people like quiet servers.
One complaint about the Bouquet of Roses; it’s account bound. I can understand the need to have the other items available in the Gem Store as such, but the whole idea behind Valentine’s Day is to GIVE something to a significant other or that special friend. It would have made a lot more sense to be able to GIVE the Bouquet of Roses to someone else, rather than have them buy it for themselves…
Otherwise I thought it was a wonderful idea.
But you can, You can throw the bouquet to anyone and they can use the first three skills for free for 2 minutes. If you really want to buy all 5 skills for someone to permanently use send them the gold to exchange for gems (or real money).
If you could toss my PvE phantasm build on as well, would be muh appreciated: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-PvE-Supporting-Phantasm-Build/
I actually just noticed that you don’t even have a phantasm section. Perhaps this deserves a bit more inspection, as there are some phantasm builds that are really strong, but I’ve seen no guides for them.
Trying to categories Mesmer builds can be very tricky, the build you linked is a perfect example of this being a hybrid. All builds share multiple aspects across the board. Some are easier to place than others
I could make many different categories which would make it confusing or divide it between phantasms and/or shatter builds which would make it too simplistic and unclear. I basically tried to separate builds depending on what their main focus is, what makes them special, the idea behind the build.
So looking at it your phantasm build it looks like its mainly focused on ‘power’ damage with healing and support as a second primary focus with some condition damage thrown in there as well.
A hybrid (kind of like my power/heal mantra build but with phantasms). I would put it under power/condition damage builds section myself. It’s up to you
Suprised my condition build is not up there.
Kylia’s Confusion Mesmer Build – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N736Yg57RcQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Added you to the list
I noticed a new item was added to the gemstore (sneakily) a beautiful Bouquet of Roses you can share with others by tossing a bouquet over your head, I love it! Let’s all spread the love (and rose petals) for Valentines Day
Thanks Anet!

Hyperlinks don’t seem to be working as they should.
If you’ve never been to the thread a hyperlink takes you to it sends you to the correct post. However if you have already previously seen the thread it in stead takes you to the last location/post you were viewing within that thread rather than the post that was linked.
I use google chrome so I don’t know if it’s just me but it means they aren’t true hyperlinks, makes it difficult to link to specific posts.
I know this is an old topic but the Bandit Rifleman in Caudecus’ Manor still say damge instead of damage under their nameplates.
Perhaps it was just the mobs there that didn’t credit XP? No idea.
I don’t know about the rage but this happens to me just last night. Someone from my wvw guild [wz] messaged me last night telling i was demoted to “unworthy” status which they will kick out of the guild for not representing and stuff.
I have 1000 kill at wvw with this guild so its crazy to be tagged as one.
Funny because they told me its fine to have another guild before i joined and just represent the guild whenever i do wvw. Which im doing eversince. And sometimes whenever i do pve i even actually stay and represent them asking members to join for some dungeon runs to help them with their sets and leveling.
Then he told me i should ask permission whenever i will not represent the guild.
Oh well i left the guild. I can still run wvw with out the need of havin one.
This is the type of guild that’s at the heart of the reason why people say such bad things about full representation guilds.
We aren’t all power crazy dictators who humiliate it’s members. I’ve always been extremely considerate in regards to representation and would never treat someone with such awful disrespect.
I’m sorry to hear you had such bad experience. Be assured there are nice guilds out there, just have to find it
some of us just want to make a strong family bond, solid community feel but sadly I know the type of guild you speak of. It doesn’t happen to just full time representation guilds, it’s a far wider problem.

Refined excellent product!? If Anet doesn’t pay you, you are blind. This game is the most unfinished MMO I have ever played.
You obviously didn’t play many MMO’s then. Should’ve played WoW first couple years after launch or SWtor. Both a lot worse than Guild Wars 2 at it’s current state.
I would definitely pay subscription fee it’s worth it far more than any other MMO I played including WoW. Sadly I don’t have the money spare to do so.
Ive been thinking of making a mesmer I’m just not sure what build to go with. I currently have a maxed backstab thief and condimancer, and I’m looking for something a little harder. I was thinking of a mantra build. But do you have any suggestions?
Well check out my Panacea Mantra build as well as look at the rest of the same thread where some other people have listed their mantra build variation. Try it out and you can always come up with your own variation from there on
Also I added a new build to the list
Speaking from my own experience on desolation EU ive not seen any elitism as such yet. Ive seen people asking for experienced oplayers only etc but i dont see that as elitism. i see the " you must have xxx and xxx to be in this run as elitism". this I havent seen.
Oh i mean there ares ome horrid people but there are also some really nice people so its all good atm
I’m on desolation and I seen quite a bit of this, A lot of ‘must be lvl 80, full exotic, specific professions’ etc. not to mention the speed runs and exploiters. Leaving any newcomer completely confused or worse kicked. We have a good community on Deso but this elitism is still very prevalent on our server.
Whats worse it rubs off on even the nicest of people, I have some guildies who think this is the norm. Who think this is okay to want to speed run dungeons.
Us veterans, It’s our responsibility to teach newcomers to enjoy dungeons to set a good example and positive teaching environment. Since the first two months that’s been blown out of the water. Not enough people help each other anymore.
I never see people ask for lower level/new people when looking for LFG I just see ‘lvl 80’s only’ or if they join they get kicked out. I’m one of the few I seen actually specifically ask for newcomers actually I can’t recall seeing anyone ask this to general strangers in map chat, only in my guild itself or friends.
Is it really so terrible to spend an hour or two every week taking newcomers to dungeons and teaching them the ropes? To take the time and not speedrun/exploit so they can slowly become familiar with the various tactics?
But of course most people now don’t know the tactics of most fights and mobs because they skip most of it. The amount of times I seen pugs die repeatedly on the easiest fights, people who proffess to have done the run hundreds of times, yet have no clue how to play all the fights efficiently.
I’m seriously concerned about the elitism in this game and also the lack of respect for the content provided. It’s all about money money money. I miss the time when people took the time to enjoy and learn the various encounters, spend hours in dungeon figuring it all out with breaks for food in between.
Forget that, if you don’t do cof 1 in 6 minutes with 3 warrior berserker, 2 mesmer group forget it. It’s really really sad to see.

Asura Mesmer: Lilyfay
I wanted to use just ‘Fay’ but someone took it within seconds (someone who didn’t even really want the name…;_;…)
Could they not make like a human/largos hybrid that’s wingless and able to breath on land?
I use centaur runes only because I do a fair amount of wvw and without it I’m so slow it’s painful (outside of combat). I tried and it just makes me want to cry so slow.
If I was just doing dungeons I would choose better runes for sure but alas anet decided majority of mesmer specs should be slugs versus all other professions (except maybe guardian but even they have better out of combat swiftness choices without runes).
Most of the 100% rep requirements are guild leaders taking the lazy way out instead of making the guild attractive for players. You know how you get people to rep a lot? Give them a good reason. Guild boosts, fun conversation, events, etc. Let’s take a look at your 3 points.
Community – If the guild leader isn’t doing events, etc, to get people to rep regularly, I don’t think they actually care about the guild community that much. Also, if the leader is harassing a member about not-repping every single day, they probably aren’t a very nice person to be in a guild with.
Influence – Ditto for guild buffs.
Loyalty – Uh, I love my family and am definitely loyal to them, but I don’t spend 100% of my time attached at the hip. Are you trying to tell me that a leisure activity should be more demanding than my family? lol, be serious.
You’re the leader, you’ve decided to run this guild as part of your leisure activity. No other player is or should be as dedicated as you are. If they do start doing as much as you to organize, etc, than they’re taking over your job.
I think a big part of the OP’s problem is that the guild leads changed the rules on him after he was already in the guild, and from his posts it doesn’t look like the leaders took the steps to make repping the guild appealing, they just harassed him until he quit. Now those leaders have lost a decent player who met their requirements until they changed the rules. That’s a loss for the guilds. He’s free to find another guild, hopefully one not run by wanna-be dictators.
TLDR: The multi-guild system shows rude and bad guild leaders as the liability they are. I’m all for that. It’s not fun for the people who get caught in the middle though. I hope the OP finds another, better guild.
Sorry but you are naive if you think people will want to represent if the guild doesn’t care enough whether they do or not. A guild that cares about their community makes clear that everyone should represent and do their bit.
Why join a social guild if they don’t care whether you are with them or not? If you know that others in that guild won’t care and represent others whenever they please. I certainly wouldn’t want to be in a community like that, I’d want to be in a community where everyone in it is involved and that’s the kind of community I provide.
I never stated members should do as much as a leader but everyone still plays a part. Without the members there is no guild, without their presence there is no community no matter how much you try to provide, events and chat.
If people aren’t there in between then there is no reason to be there, no spontanous chatting and opportunities to make friends it’s just everyone coming on to be selfish and participate in the bits they want before leaving and getting perks from other guilds, it’s the kind of attitude that doesn’t allow for a solid community to blossom.
Being in a guild full time doesn’t mean you have to always talk or do everything with guildies. Your family example is flawed. You don’t always do and talk with your family 24/7 but does that mean you should remove your last name, change it for another family’s name and go over to their house because they happen to have a party and your current one isn’t?
The examples you give are also judgemental to think that guild leaders who require you to represent full time are therefore ‘rude, bad, wannabe dictators’ not to mention incredibly insulting (and against forum CoC).
If you don’t like how a guild is run you can leave it, if the leaders explain to you its full representation before you join and you don’t agree, don’t join. Full time representation requirement is not a binding contract and doesn’t mean you can never leave or join a different guild better suited to your desires.
I have no problem with guild-hopping and specialized guilds, what I am sick off is people insulting guilds who don’t, social PvX guilds. We leave you be and don’t come on here every two weeks to insult guild hoppers. Have some respect for diversity in guilds and the different rules they all have. If you disagree fair enough but there’s no call for such close-minded judgemental insults about people you don’t know nothing about.
There’s a lot of people who like this type of guild so why do we not have the same right as you to exist? If our rule when coming into our house was to put off your shoes, who are you to go around insulting us for it? Does that mean the people who live there are any less friendly or caring than you? If you hate it that much, don’t enter.
Edit: Also, being full time representation does not equal laziness in a guild leader, you can both provide plenty of things while being a full time representation guild. Not to mention what Conner said, We aren’t here to hold your hand every second of the day.
