Why are some people so determined to change the game to reward bad/unskillful play.

This is true. If bearbow rangers want to pull aggro, making the fight longer and substantially more annoying, then it must be, because they’re playing how they want.

In the other hand, it kinda adds a bit of a challenge to have someone pulling aggro and having the mob move away from the group. Not only do you have to deal damage to the enemy, you also have to chase it and be ready to evade when it randomly decides to give up on the chase.

I am against pulling bosses to walls and stack there.The dps increase is significant.
Also boss’s specific phases and abilities can be negated.Such example is lupicus.When he is pulled to a wall he is not using some of his abilities(charge and green bubble).When you fight him not near a wall he is using all his abilities.

the Shadow Step and Bubble have nothing to do with him being on the wall or not.

You may be right about Lupicus.I haven’t done it in a while.But still pulling bosses to a wall must not be allowed.

Lupi uses his Shadowstep as a gapcloser. He won’t use it if there’s no gap to close.
Lupi uses his bubble to keep people in melee range. He won’t use it if people stay melee.

You would know this if you had solo’d him or paid attention to the fight.

Fixed a bug that caused the drop rate of fractal weapon skins to decrease above fractal level 40.

Experienced.

If there’s P1, P2, P3, P4 or any path at all in the description, it is more than obvious that Exp means that they want experienced players. (Unfortunately, newer players might not know what P1, P2, P3 or P4 mean, and oftentimes will believe that it means Explorable).

Back then when I played and also started my own groups, I would add “XP”, as it was used to abbreviate experience in other games.

No instance owner is the best thing to ever happen to dungeons, I’m sorry but I 100% disagree with OP. If your in a long and difficult dungeon, and the the pug leader who opened has to leave, the dungeons over. Even if the opener doesn’t leave party and disconnects the instance eventually times out and people are forced to leave. The new system is a god send in my opinion and I hope it never reverts.

There are no long and difficult dungeons in this game. Even Arah p4 can be done without skipping/exploiting in a hour or less.

Not really. I remember times when you raided 6+ hours non stop. Good old times.
1h is really not very long.

6+ hours!? psh, 10-12 hours for plane of Growth in EQ initially! and that was a quick clear!

If memory doesn’t fail me, AV could last indefinitely back then in Vanilla WoW, before they introduced the reinforcement system.

Really? In a game as big as GW2 where you aren’t allowed to mention names on the forums how many times do you think someone would have to perform kicks before a majority of dungeon runners knew about him?

Not as many as random people have performed so far.

Currently, the only solution our beloved devs have proposed has been “report them and we’ll ban them”.
Wouldn’t this solution work much better on one particular player repeating the same offense than it currently does on two people? In fact, if one person is flagged as the Party Leader, it would be so much easier to keep track on whatever misbehaviour this leader happens to exhibit.

CS would look and see who replaced the people instance owner kicked. At end kick last 3 and replace with 3 guildies/ people on friends list mighty suspicious. Kick various parts of dungeon and relist party standards.

doesnt really need to be “policed”. A person who consistently kicks at end will be known. A person who kicks for “high standards” shouldnt be given the chance as people should leave before kickage.

Say an instance owner the preserves the right to kick a bear ow on sight. Or doesn’t like people who use the “wrong” tactic on a certain boss. Or will kick someone who mentions they have a non-meta build. I think somebody who owns instances with these sorts of attitudes will end up kicking a lot of people. I don’t think many of these people will pre-emptively drop out.

As for starting your own groups, well that may be sound advice for 20% of people, but that leaves the majority of players in a riskier system than is in place currently.

In the end no one would associate with such leaders, as they would acquire a bad reputation over time.

I know that it is wrong to judge a book based on its cover, but between the account name, the excessive use of capitals, the improper use of punctuation, the unpleasant to the eyes formatting and the general subjectivity, I’m not sure that this suggestion will be well-received.

I do agree that we need more and better content, though.

I resolutely support strong ownership; one person creates the party, opens the dungeon, sets the rules and has complete control over the group.

At the beginning I can see some players abusing the system, but it won’t take long until their bad reputation becomes so widespread that no one but their guildies and friends will join a party on which these bad apples lead. This would work especially well on this game, as everyone can see what our account IDs are, regardless of what character we’re using. I understand that this could be considered like some sort of shaming to some people, but if I believe that it might be a necessary evil in this case.

This system has served us well in almost every MMO over the span of a decade or more. I understand that GW2 strives to be different to other MMOs, markedly when it comes to freedom of gameplay, but you know you can’t please everyone, and if you try too hard, you’ll probably end up pleasing no one.

Control is a major necessity.

What about it? About 90% of that video is PvE with the last 15 or so seconds being PvP.

Is the video showing pve? Sure. What is the whole message though? It mentions the word: guild MANY times, 6x times i believe. The whole video indicates of Guilds being a big role of the game. Proof: (i quote from the video)
1.) “Our guild gathers before each battle.” – 0:07
2.)“As guild members we spend our time training, to master our unique skills, to earn a right to call ourselves guild members” -0:48
3.)“Other guilds will confront us.” ---> the biggest proof of GwGing, and besides, the video is ALL about guilds, guild members gathering before battle and fighting other guilds etc.

They employ nouns over and over for the whole duration of the video, and verbs, too. It also tells stories, which were obviously written by someone before they made it to the game.
This game and its predecessor are most definitely about Grammar and Writing.

The thing is, if a system prevents griefing or makes it more difficult to pull off, it will inherently support selling.

If they say they’re upgrading their system, I would expect improvement, not retrogression.

This feature pack seemed much more boring than the last, and as such I didn’t feel too excited for it, but I never expected it to make me want to play even less.

well despite i would totally expect it from anet, would be pointless rewarding a fractal box for fotm skins completion.

Maybe it would count towards placement on the Fractal Leadeboard?

They removed the ladderboard because new players were being left by their girlfriends, in pvp i guess.

As for people that keep bringing up AA…

Archeage is nothing like GW2. For one, it’s tab-target without dodge. It has quest hubs, worse dungeons with 3 player limit, no raids, etc. All it has is open world pvp, where guilds will control open land, raze your house and ships, and you will be left helpless without a mega guild to protect you. It also uses labor points for everything… no seriously, literally for everything. If you want to harvest, craft, open loot, you will need labor points. Just think how “energy” works in those facebook games, and that’s archeage’s labor point system.

Archeage sounds like what I wanted GW2 to be, sounds very interesting. I might be leaving GW sooner then I thought.

It’s definitely not casual friendly, but I think it’ll occupy my time for a while, to say the least.
It also has capes, mounts, gliders, and naval battles.
There’s even player operated judicial system (reading the chat for the players on trial is hilarious).

I tried, seems fun and I’ll play it.

I really don’t want to ditch GW2, however. Its combat system is fabulous and it is a truly a shame to see its quality pale in comparison to the genuine clusterkittens we’ve had lately (broken dungeons, 2yearold bugs on skills, terrible party system that can be exploited by griefers).

The new dungeon party changes is just a band-aid. There have been countless suggestions how to improve grouping, but there’s no point suggesting them again. If it took this long just to remove dungeon-opener concept, then there isn’t any hope for the short term.

Sometimes it’s almost like they’re walking the extra mile in an attempt to disappoint one entire portion of their playerbase.
This feels like suicide considering how many new games are coming out around these dates. It really makes you wonder.

As Mordremoth’s corruption expands we find out that it was him that closed of the F/U path in Twilight Arbor. Well it turns out that wasn’t the only F/U he had up his sleeve. Mordremoth’s corruption knows no bounds as it bleeds all the way into Crucible of Eternity and Arah and slowly dungeons all over Tyria become closed off to our heros.

RNG would be okay if you could actually pick the skin, imo. I’ve been playing Fractals for a long while now, too, and also have almost every skin, except for the useless underwater ones (thank RNGod), but that doesn’t make me feel like it would be unfair to actually get a reliable method to acquire skins at higher levels (maybe even at 50, only).

As I said, it doesn’t have to be easy. In fact, I would hate it if it were easy. You’re advocating to trade our current horrible RNG for an slightly less horrible RNG. I find that silly, and maybe others do, too.

This game is easy… get over it. You can try to glam up the game with “speed runs” but at least be honest. It takes all of 24 hours to learn all the dungeons if you are a slow learner..

They didn’t move backwards; they just advanced in a different direction… a direction worse than the last. Still, my point stands, if we keep things the way they are, they’ll become even more boring than they already are (if that’s even possible :P).

No i am suggesting that “since anet seems not to be able to imrpove fractals” they should simple revert the system at when fractals were popular and rewards more balanced.

I’m asking to revert fractured leaving just the fractal fixes and the new fractals that afaik is considered one of the worst patch we had.

So its both easy and fault proof.
Things got already way easier compared when we used to run fotm 80 with 20 AR.

I agree that Fractured could’ve been better, but I disagree with your proposed solution. Moving backwards should never be an option. The reason people are so very bored with the dungeons we have right now is that there haven’t been any significant changes or new additions in a long time.

Also, as much as I dislike that ANET reset everyone’s Fractal level down to 30, using that fabled leaderboard as an excuse and with no compensation whatsoever, it is understandable that they did it because they had not expected their players to find a way to beat them.

I believe that we’ll have to agree to disagree solution-wise and simply acknowledge that the current system is terrible and it needs to go, one way or another.

You are not talking about a mere skin.
You are talking about the only PvE rare skins in the game not related to trading post.

Also related to a community that kept playing fractal unde the worse circumstances and often treated in the worse possible way by the developers:

You might understand why many people would be very upset if they make fotm skins easy to get.

I’m not looking for ANET to make things easier. I have most of the skins already, so I wouldn’t benefit from that at all. I just believe that it should not be all RNG. It literally takes away any shred of prestige there is to be had. It’s all about luck and nothing more. Literally all you need to do is reaching level 11 to have a shot on the skins, and every level onwards is just a little bonus.
You have difficulty by effort and difficulty by probability mixed up.

What I am suggesting is a more reliable system to acquire them. Something that actually forces you to go up in the ladders if you want a specific skin.
Perhaps making some of the requirements instability specific or area specific. We have eighteen different instabilities , and fifteen different areas (granted, some combinations can get pretty absurd, but that’s difficult, right?). I’d say we have plenty of material to work with.

And maybe delete instabilties nobody likes….
They are horribly unbalance and random (EXAMPLE: you can be shot by mossman while dazed at cliffside).

It’s never too late for a change, especially since we’re speaking of mere skins. In my opinion, ANET should make it so that reliably acquiring a single skin becomes a difficult task, requiring players to run higher levels Fractals regularly. I believe that each weapon would take its respective discipline to be maxed, too (If you’re running high level fractals, chances are that you have at least two level 500 disciplines already).

Perhaps going as far as to add a little RNG, like requiring you to run specific Fractals to gain an attunement after beating their boss.

Also, in order not to alienate newer players, skins and weapon boxes should remain as possible rewards at the end of the run, keeping their current midget-low drop-rate.

I believe it should be tedious, though not legendary tedious. With the time many of us have spent trying to get certain skin, we would’ve gotten at least a single Legendary weapon by now.

I made a suggestion on the stickied thread above. It’s not anywhere near perfect, but it would be better than our current system.

I have the full fractal’s skin collection and believe me, I can undestrar the frustation.

I have almost every skin, except the UW weapons and the axe. Still, I wouldn’t mind if they gave us a more reliable method to obtain them.

We’re not speaking of difficulty when we say that it’s hard to acquire a skin, we’re talking about sheer RNG. There exist 19 possible weapon skins, twenty-four possible Ascended Armor drops (6ArmorPiecesx4StatCombos), a bunch of Ascended rings and of course, the possibility of getting nothing at all.
The probability of getting a particular skin is extremely low, and as far as we know, the only factor to acquire one is luck. There is no prestige in that.

We need ANET to make them moderately difficult to obtain, so that there is actually something to brag about, other than winning the RNG lottery several times.

Fractal Skins Acquisition Method

Hello, guys. This is an idea I had some time ago that -I think- would make Fractal Skins more accessible, while still retaining their prestige.

I’ve never liked the idea of buying them with Fractal Relics or Pristine Fractal Relics, because, depending on the required amount of required relics that would:
a) cause them to become extremely easy to obtain.
b) make obtaining them a gut-wrenching grind.
After pondering, I came up with the conclusion that there was no appropriate way to fix the issue by throwing numbers around. Instead, I believe that it would be way more awesome and gratifying if the acquisition method were some sort of errand or quest. I hope you guys agree with me on this one.

Before I begin, I’d like to state a few points of view/facts I have. These points will help you understand my reasoning and my posture:

  • Fractals are considered the PvE endgame content, along with dungeons.
  • Higher levels scales force you to have maxed at least one Armor-Crafting Discipline and a Weapon-Crafting Discipline.
  • RNG sucks.
  • In order to avoid alienating the casual playerbase and to preserve an stable economy, ANET can’t massively increase the gold reward.
  • ANET should keep Fractal Weapon skins as a possible daily reward at the end of the run as this will allow the more casual playerbase to still attain skins, without having to max any of the crafting disciplines.
  • RNG sucks.
Suggestion

Anyway, now that that’s out of the way, here are my ideas:

  • Add three Fractal Weapon Codices to the vendors in exchange for 20 Pristine Fractal Relics + 100x raw discipline-related components. They could be named after the Six Gods or something cool, like the fractal bosses.
    Example:
    10 Pristine Fractal Relics + 100 Ancient Wood Logs = Artificer’s Fractal Codex
    10 Pristine Fractal Relics + 100 Orichalcum Ores = Weaponsmith’s Fractal Codex
    10 Pristine Fractal Relics + 50 Ancient Wood Logs + 50 Orichalcum ores = Huntsman Fractal Codex
    Name ideas:
    Weaponsmith -> Molten Alliance
    Huntsman -> Aetherblade
    Artificer -> Jade Maw’s
  • Add a new component to the vendors’ list, Mists Essence Consolidator, purchasable with for 800 regular Fractal Relics.
    This item would be placed in the Mystic Forge, along with one of each of the Mist Essence items randomly acquired in FotM (Vial of Condensed Mists Essence, Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence, and Shard of Crystallized Mists Essence) and would give us a Mists Essence Amalgamate. This item would allow players to imbue weapon components with the essence of the Mists at specific locations, by fusing it with weapon-specific crafting components at specific locations.
  • After a group beats a level 31+ endboss Fractal, a Place of Power should spawn along with the chest. It would allow players to fuse two weapon-specific crafting components with one Mists Essence Amalgamate. This would give in return an unusable weapon, depending on the used components.
    Example:
    Deldrimor Steel Sword Hilt + Deldrimor Sword Blade + Mists Essence Amalgamate -> Mists-Imbued Sword
  • This new item would then be thrown in the Mystic Forge along with other components (I’m not yet sure of what they should be) and then Zommoros would reward you with an adequate Fractal Weapon Skin.
    Example:
    Mists-Imbued Sword + Gift of Ascension + Weaponsmith’s Fractal Codex + Vision Crystal -> Fractal Sword Skin.
    Mists-Imbued Focus + Gift of Ascension + Artificer’s Fractal Codex + Vision Crystal -> Fractal Focus Skin.
    Mists-Imbued Pistol + Gift of Ascension + Huntsman’s Fractal Codex + Vision Crystal -> Fractal Pistol Skin

And that’s it!

I pug Fractals and Arah on an almost daily basis as well. From time to time I get terrible/meh people, but every now and then I have the privilege to meet amazing people that make the whole experience worth it, despite the terrible RNG.
