It’s very easy to please both crowds. Although the total of 10 people in the whole game who actually like them aren’t really a crowd by any means.
Backpiece turned to be shown=> overwrites the hobosack.
Backpiece disabled=> hobosack.
Easy. Done. Anet doesn’t care.

Best solution.

I enjoy seeing/reading when people do not understand the purpose to threads and that sarcasm and satire are lost on them completely.

Considering how OP kept defending his/her arguments, I don’t think it was sarcasm or satire.

You should consider tweaking your sarcasm detector, man. It’s giving false positives.

On topic:

  • Seeing people kill certain ambient creatures makes me sad. Armadillos, specifically.
  • I’ve grown so accustomed to PuGs that I can’t efficiently partake in a more organized group.
  • I always attempt to make fresh 80’s follow the path of the Berserker. Sometimes even going as far as to buy them gear and weapons.

and will that really help you anyway? revenge is nice but it doesnt get you back the time you invested before you were kicked

Arresting a murderer won’t bring back the dead person.

Oh, yes, but that’s a silly comparison, because the government has no surefire way to prevent murder and robbery. All they can do is following rigorous security protocols to discourage potential criminals and taking away their freedom when/if they’re caught.

ANET has far more control over the universe they’ve created than our leaders do over the reality we live in.

So to all of you guys that don’t want a kick function, what if you’re half way through a path and suddenly 1 or 2 people don’t feel like pulling their own weight and aren’t contributing? Then when you ask them to do something they refuse to cooperate and/or insult you? You want to disband your own party instead of kicking the said offender(s)?

What about if someone decided to start trolling everyone by luring elite risen illusionists on purpose into the arena and kill everyone at Lupicus, knowing they couldn’t be kicked for it? Would you rather kick that person and find someone else on the LFG or restart the path from scratch?

I wouldn’t even bother to give them a reply. It is far too obvious that they:

  • Are still too young and/or immature to understand why control and regulation are needed.
  • Lack any sort of foresight whatsoever.

In my opinion, whoever started the group (whether it means that they posted the LFG ad or opened the instance) should be labeled as the Leader and that person should be the one approve or deny kick votes from the rest of their group. Is it abusable? Of course it is. Is it worse than a system where griefers can run rampant until they reach ANET’s radar? No.

Why wait until a disaster occurs and then take measures when you can prevent it instead? It’s impractical and while it might keep some people from doing it again, it will give ill-intentioned individuals more time to grief other players before they’re punished accordingly. Not to mention that once their sentence is lifted, they may or may not re-offend.

Either way, we should all prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

Please add restrictions to kicking.

The Party Leader needs to be in absolute control of the instance.
Whenever a Kick Vote is requested, it should fall onto the leader to decide whether it goes or not. It might be abusable, but it is better than getting kicked from your own groups at the end of the run by random ill-intentioned people.

There needs to be control.

Making tomes tradable might be a good solution. The only issue is if the price goes down too fast (if they drop too often), it might overshadow all other available leveling solutions.

That’s right. Maybe if you could fuse several tomes together into a tradeable version, but that won’t happen. That in itself would discourage exploration, which would reduce the maps’ population and I don’t think ANET would like that after going through the trouble of implementing the Megaservers.

I used to delete bloodstone dust but now I’ve made a mule alt and keep everything there. As an ANet developer just mentioned in a wvw thread, do not delete this stuff, as they’re coming out with new things to use it on!!

Yeah they also said at the exact same time there would be varying methods of obtaining ascended equipment.

So far, ascended armor is obtained by obscenely time gated crafting and no other means, and weapons are exactly the same, and they’ve had plenty of time to add other methods.

Ascended gear was made to give a certain (but regrettably large) demographic of players a carrot to chase while ANet got a good strong content production line going. Now that it has served that purpose my bet’s that they’ll never touch it again except to dangle more produce in front of the sheep demographic, never to actually truly expand the content in a good solid way.

Ascended gear can also be obtained from FotM and WvW chests, I believe.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bloodstone_Brick

Just make the Bloodstone Dust into bricks at the Mysic Forge.
-You need 450 in crafting to do it.
-You’ll need 2 Obsidian Shards: “Tactician Deathstrider, when the Cathedral of Glorious Victory is under Pact control, for 2,100 Karma each”
-Thermocatalytic Reagentx10 (bought from any crafting vendor)

You can also revert it back to Dust in the Mystic Forge.
-1 Bloodstone Brick
-100 Bloodstone Dust (i think)
-1 Essence of Luck
-1 Mystic Coin

good advice, but nobody is throwing out extra mats&money to make rubish into compact rubish

It’s only rubbish if you don’t have the necessary crafting disciplines or are not interested in Fractals.

I adopted this practice after repeatedly getting pre-nerf Dredge in numerous occasions while pugging.

It’s a variation of the Kübler-Ross model. Instead of following the usual order (Denial-> Anger-> Bargaining-> Depression-> Acceptance), I simply skip from Denial to Acceptance. The moment things start looking less than ideal, I just take a deep breath, sigh, smile and move onward.
In the end, I probably made some mistakes too, and getting frustrated will only make me more prone to overlook them.

After some time I also started partially using this principle iRL, and as a result I rarely ever get mad. <:

Is it so unreasonable to expect people to have 2 working brain cells?

If this subforum is an indicator, I would say yes. Does two working braincells allow someone to learn what requirements are for speed runs from watching a dungeon run video? I’m thinking no.

=/ I thought this was an actual debate. Well now I feel a bit silly for wasting my time.

I don’t think there is a place in the debate to claim that two working brain cells equates to people understanding someone’s requirements for teaming, even after watching some dungeon run videos.

It also takes some brain cells not to take everything literally, or so I’ve heard. <:

I’ve watched Youtube videos to learn dungeons. There are many. They don’t explain specific requirements for teaming with specific groups. You don’t necessarily learn that watching youtube videos … or even coming to the dungeon forums ironically. That’s just another opportunity you guys are missing. Being new doesn’t magically mean you have no responsibility to show some initiative.

And in the same vein, being a veteran with requirements for a team gives you the most knowledge and incentive to help them out.

I mean, I think this twist on the conversation is pretty funny: You don’t want gimps joining your teams and your fanatical about the level of performance you want from people that team with you …. but you don’t want to do anything to educate or discourage people that have no idea they aren’t meeting your requirements from joining your teams. GG guys.

No, no. Listen.
I don’t expect every new player to know everything from the very beginning. I just expect them to show some interest, to watch a kitten youtube video of whatever dungeon we’re running before joining the group or at the very least voice that they’re inexperienced and would like to learn.

I’ve met some of those and I’ve given them as much help as I can, ranging from suggestions to gear and I’ve enjoyed doing so because helping someone and seeing them get better at it is satisfying.
Now, what you’re suggesting is that we’re responsible for every single simpleton that joins the groups we create, which is not true. If a man doesn’t care about his own progress, why should anyone else?

I’m not a great player, but I believe that I am decent at the very least. Everything I know so far I’ve learned it from reading guides, watching videos, paying attention to what other players do, asking more informed people or simply figuring it out myself. None of the guilds I’ve been part of ever lent me a hand on that matter (though the people in them have all been great and friendly).
Am I expecting everyone to do each and every thing I just listed? No, of course not, but I’d like them to at least show some interest in becoming an asset for the group.

That kind of apathy makes me sick, and my personal opinion is that if a man doesn’t care about himself enough to put a microscopic, infinitesimal amount of effort into whatever goal he has, then that man deserves to stagnate and be left behind by his peers. This applies to real life as well.

I’ve already addressed that. The fact that people don’t ask doesn’t relieve anyone of their own responsibility to ensure they team with people that share their values. I know it’s an extra step for people to be nice and tolerant to but … if you want to be helpful to them AND people that share your teaming values, you can take a minute to explain what you are after and why they don’t fit that expectation.

Being new doesn’t magically mean you have no responsibility to show some initiative. You’re acting like “casuals” require such careful handling and consideration as to be mentally challenged.

What you’re advocating isn’t helping them, it’s being patronizing as kitten. This is the problem with White Knighting. You may genuinely mean well, but in the end all you’re doing is saying “poor little thing, it needs extra special treatment and over-the-top considerations to succeed.” kitten a bunch of that.

This.
If the new player in question doesn’t show a shred of initiative, I wouldn’t want to be in a group with them even if they wore full Ascended Berserker gear with Scholar runes and proper builds.

If you want somebody to help you, you gotta help yourself first. So, no. You didn’t cover that point. Treating new players like they’re completely incapable of doing anything for themselves will not help their progress at all.

I do have to disagree with one thing though, I personally think Lupi not using the thunderdome on meleeing characters is an AI issue since if you move around at his feet he still will do it, its only when people don’t move that he doesn’t use it. That isn’t exactly the behavior of a ranged only attack.

He simply tries to catch players who try to move, be it towards him in order to melee him or away from him to get some distance. If you don’t move he has no reason to imprison you imo.

Besides, he has been like this for about two years now. ANET wouldn’t let such an obvious, glaring, gamebreaking bug remain for such a long time... oh wait.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if they suddenly decided it’s a bug, much like when they decided that Mesmer #3 Sword ability letting you Swap after your illusion had died was a bug.

I could be misinterpreting this. But what I took from this post is you think its ok to set requirements for a group. But if someone who doesnt meet those requirements joins your LFG you should take the time to explain exactly what your LFG message means before removing them. Or you are not allowed to kick them at all.

What twisted logic makes you think this?

The logic that tells me people with requirements want better understanding and behaviour from people joining as their teams as PUGs.

I’d like to know how are experienced players supposed to teach the less experienced if they don’t do so much as asking a darn question? Whenever there’s an unseasoned player in a group, it is often that no one notices, until said person is admiring the floor’s masterful craftsmanship up close or has had the pleasure of doing so in numerous occasions. It is then when their lack of preparation becomes apparent and it tends to upset group leaders because they preferred to keep quiet and risk wasting everyone’s time instead of asking from the beginning.

If they joined knowing that they would get kicked because of their gear of choice or lack of experience if they voiced them, then they were aware that they did not fulfill the requirements for that group and joined anyway, putting their own agenda above the groups’.

If they joined simply because they didn’t understand what the ad meant, then they would ask as they join, which they rarely ever do.

I know it might not be the case, but in many occasions it feels like they’re attempting to fool the groups they join, and that, in my opinion is insulting and deserves a kick.
