let’s see how things will be in 1 year from now:
old player paid 160$ = played 4 years of the game.
new player paid 100$ = played 1 year of the game.
sounds fair to me.

What if this “old player” bought the account somewhere around January, February or April, on this year, though?

For the $50 price tag of HoT everyone gets an account with both core content and expansion content included. Players with existing accounts are allowed, but not required, to forgo the newly purchased account, if they so choose, in order to link to the existing account.

The price someone paid for an existing account as much as (close to) three years ago is irrelevant to what is provided in the HoT bundle. The bundle provides exactly the same for everyone, for the same $50, with the previously mentioned exception that a veteran has an option not available to a first time buyer.

I think it is worth noting that a new account does not include something inherent to the mentioned veteran account: three years of play, past content, and accumulated rewards.

I don’t follow. Is there any other MMO that goes by this logic out there? Like, is it common practice to charge money, on top of the actual purchase, to keep your progress? Because, in almost two decades of gaming, I haven’t seen such an example elsewhere.

You forgot the side that doesn’t care that new players are getting the game for free but feel that HoT is too little content to warrant a 50$ price tag and that the only reason it has a 50$ price tag is because they bundled the value of the core game into the price of the expansion. All these people want is good value for their money but so far they aren’t seeing it. Entitlement has nothing to do with it.

I’m with this guy. While I do most definitely want to support ANET, I haven’t seen enough to warrant that price.

And some people grow up, mature, realize that life is not always 110% always and absolutely uniform (or “fair”, but that is highly subjective) and stop throwing the same tantrums that children do.

Immediately resorting to ad hominem only puts question over your own maturity.

Ah, the old “I know you are but what am I” defense. Well played.

I’m also not the first to note the striking parallels that I referenced. http://www.killtenrats.com/2015/06/17/gw2-parenting-and-the-heart-of-thorns-pre-purchase/
Sure, it may not have been precisely the right marketing move, but the rage and salt both here and in game has been appallingly bad.

Well, I don’t really care about new players getting things. I’m just trying to say that everybody should be able to express their opinion, without being targets of personal attacks. While trying to change their perception of things by showing them your own might help them see things from a different angle, targeting them personally will only make them angry and a lot less likely to listen to you, or anyone that shares your point of view, helping no one and heating things further..

If that makes you feel better about yourself and your investments, then by all means go ahead continue basing your life on that philosophy of yours, but please do not try to belittle others by calling them manchildren just because they’re fighting against something that they perceive as wrong. Immediately resorting to ad hominem only puts question over your own maturity.

As for my own opinion, I haven’t been bought by what I have seen to this moment. The content that they have displayed hasn’t had enough appeal to me to warrant a 50 dollar expense. Need more reveals.

I don’t see how others can be bored. There’s so much to do I literally don’t know where to start each day I log in.

Different people have different motivations. From the PvE perspective, all the dungeons are pretty much the same as they were on launch, save for a few bug fixes, a few tweaks here and there and new bugs that take forever to fix, or even notice (I’m looking at you, Lupi).

If you’re not crazy about PvP/World content, then the game has become stagnant to you at this point.

Reveal new weapons so we can collect skins

FenrirSlakt.3692

Necro -> GS
Thief -> Probably Rifle
Ele -> Might be Sword
Ranger -> Staff
Guardian -> Longbow
Mesmer -> Shield
Engineer -> Hammer
Warrior -> My guesses are Pistol, Shortbow or (MAYBE) Torch. Or something else.

These are the weapons warriors can’t currently handle, and my very own opinion about them.

Staff: Most of the staff skins we currently possess do not look like they can double as Quarterstaves.
Shortbow: Might be, though I wouldn’t be a fan of it.

Focus: Doubt it. Foci can range from books to random organs. So, they don’t seem plausible, at all.

Torch: Maybe they could burn things with it, like the barbarians of days past).

Scepter: Same as foci:

Pistol: Rytlock is a warrior and can wield a pistol, so this might be it, especially considering Marjory, Trahearne and Necros getting GSwords.

Dagger: Maybe, but I wouldn’t count on it.

And no one cares about UW weapons (Tridents are for pansies).

Why zerk meta exist

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: FenrirSlakt.3692

FenrirSlakt.3692

Yeah probably but it will be challenging for a while until people figure out the next OP strat. And in MY ideal world if I was in charge of balancing gw2, I would probably nerf that dominant strategy in a month after its discovery. This was basically how GW1 was balanced and it kept the game fresh(at least for me).

Or you could, you know, add more content. Or alter the content, so that the players have to try different strategies to beat it.

Nerfing ability, after ability endlessly tends to weigh people down. Poor business strategy.

Why zerk meta exist

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: FenrirSlakt.3692

FenrirSlakt.3692

So I have been doing fotm lately with LOD and I have to say, the berserker team comp meta is seriously trivializing the content. Mossman gets nuked past 50% with 1 icebow freeze combo. Archdiviner’s daze with meteor shower precast followed by icebow freeze combo trivialized him. Svanir in snowblind gets nuked and literally die before teleporting up. Imbued grawl shaman icebow freeze after his bubble pops is a little too OP. Mai trin stealth icebow nuke is OP if the warrior or guard can face tank mai.

pretty sure you mean “playing with decent players is trivialising content”.

your random pug in full berserker probably isn’t melting bosses at fractal 50.

Yes, and I would prefer content to be challenging even with decent players which I feel can be accomplished by nerfing icebow and maybe a little on meteor shower.

except it won’t

we did a 4w/1g dungeon tour months ago and it was just brain afk smash your face on keyboard.

no eles required, content being three years old makes it trivial and boring.

I don’t really care about the difficulty of dungeons at this point of the game because as every one has said, the content is 3years old therefore its easy but I honestly feel without icebow in FOTM, that 3year old content is still challenging.

It certainly can still be challenging, if you chop your hands off.

These kind of people act the way they do, because they perceive their needs to be above of others’. Human nature is disgusting.

It’s just that there’s ZERO reason to do anything else, but go full zerk and melee weapons with power builds in PvE, up to the point, where some professions can’t even find already rare groups to run dungeons with.

Don’t you guys ever get tired of using this argument? Earlier today, I started a group on CoE, advertised as “P1 | Everyone welcome”. I left the PC to grab a glass of water, and by the time I had returned, it was already full (their performance was so horrid that they made me look like a complete pro, but that’s a different topic altogether).

So, I wonder, do you actually try gathering people before using this as an excuse, or are my groups just that attractive?

Example

  • An enemy is going to kill your friend!
  • You use taunt
  • The enemy stop attacking your friend and goes after you, so your friend can move away and you efficiently saved his life.

That’s why it doesn’t need to be longer than 3 seconds. It’s not suppose to be used to tank something, it’s just another effect that can be used against the enemies and it’s up to us to find kitteneful way to use it (like i did with that example)

I might be wrong, but I believe that a stun, or a knockback could be used to achieve the same result.

Not with the brand new defiance system. All your knockbacks are useless now and only reduce break bar.

Wouldn’t taunt also reduce the bar if not timed right? That is, unless it is a condition and not a status. I wouldn’t know.

Jokes aside, it would be funny if an stability completely negated your gear’s stats and instead gave you an equal amount of their counterparts.

Giving leader special powers and protection puts uneven protection on the people participating in the group.

You’re saying this as if it were too difficult for anyone, and I mean anyone to Create an instance-> Open the LFG tool-> Type Story/P1/P2/P3/P4-> Hit Send.

If an individual can purchase the game, install it and play it, then chances are that they can host their own group without major issues (They can even specify that they’re new, and the party will still fill up in less than 5 minutes).

It is also worth noting that the current system and the old system are the exact same system. The only thing they did was unbinding the instance from its creator.

Anyhow, I suppose that most of the players do not care about a problem, real or potential, until they see themselves affected by it. Sooner or later.

That’s worse than any problem we currently have.

You sure about that? I’d say having two people being able to kick anyone out of a party at any given time is far worse. Especially since the kicked party members would not be sure of who started the kick vote and who seconded it, considering that the party chat gets wiped (or at least it did when I played more often) between loading screens.
One bad apple can get the name and shame treatment, whereas these offenders we have today can remain relatively untouched, until they abuse their little trick enough for a GM to notice. This system was awful yesterday and it still is awful today.

All we need really is to have a party leader system. Leader can’t be kicked, and majority vote is needed to kick.

No, because then we’re back where we were before. We had a leader system, and they took it out because of the problems.

We had an owner-with-no-power-except-kicking-destroys-instance system with everything else left up to plurality vote. That’s not a party leader system; a party leader system is something altogether different.

Agreed.

The only system this game needs is a strong leadership. While the GMs arguably punish offenders every now and then, it would be far easier and more efficient to allow the creator of the party to handle things their way.
