kitten i’m going to try this lol. I hate that norn guy tbh, no way to beat him.
Guardian;
No swiftness apart from shouts.Sorry to be pedantic but:
Sorry to be pedantic but i will never pick a staff as a zerker dps guardian, so according to your comment every guardian has to take retreat or equip a staff in order to get swiftness. I know he forgot to mention the staff symbol, but the point is a dps guardian has no valid options for swiftness.
On a side note i totally agree with CntrlAltDefeat, good post.

I know you are really experienced with the class nemesis and this suggestion is good, but tbh what i don’t like about dhuumfire is that burning is such a good condi (close to op tbh) that almost every condi necro is now taking that trait. The class needs more variety and dhuumfire did just the opposite imo. They should modify that trait in order to keep it appealing for hybrid builds, but not that much for pure condi specs.
Seems like a pretty measured response. I’m yet to see teams adapt in any significant way to the necro buffs though.
I agree but the problem is very few ppl are unbiased on this forum. Engis for ex are now complaining cos necros got buffed and can now spam aoe condi better than them. I understand that, i play a ranger and i defend my class as well, i didn’t like the bm nerf even though i knew it was needed. I don’t have many problems with necros, i modified my spec after many months trying to adapt, what i don’t like is their aoe spamming, same with engis. I still think necros need some rework, and especially their aoe should be toned down but i have the fear anet is going to overnerf necro condi spec…not that i care about necros, but i want this game to be balanced with more than 1 viable spec for every class. Let’s consider all this complaining from engis, i don’t think they would have complained so much if the engi class was the one buffed. It was exactly the same when anet nerfed stealth, every thief and his dog complained about that while everyone else was happy.
The problem with warrior is that the class dosent belong to this game.
Oh but it does. Not only that, i think is the only well designed class in the game. Too bad they designed other classes around what looked c000l instead of balancing the game.
People hate conquest bc it is a game mode that encourages skill-less spamming of AOE abilities on a small circle that you, as the opposition, are forced to stand in if you want to maintain control.
True but tbh is not a conquest mode problem, they shouldn’t have added so kittening many aoe skills in the first place.
To win a fight like that in this game you have to spam aoe like a baws, not only that but you have to spam aoe more than the opposite team. Also idiotic elites like supply crate help a lot. Don’t forget to add tons of minions and clones.
I’d say mm necro, condi aoe spam necro, condi aoe spam engi, aoe spam ele, aoe spam shatter mesmer.
(edited by Fjandi.2516)
here is another idea.
Change Dhumfire to:
100% chance to inflict burning for 5 seconds when a channeled skill is used. This effect can only trigger once every 10 seconds. This would benefit to axe and dagger, weapons used in hybrid builds and terror builds will only proc it each 40 secs on DS#4.
This would reduce the bursting on terror without nerfing any other build.
Any thoughts?
Very good idea there. I think this would be a fair solution.
I don’t think the OP is unbiased, he’s not wrong tho. But imo dhuumfire is what they should nerf (or better, remove totally), terror is fine. Again a terror/fear nerf will pretty much destroy every possible option for a condi necro. I’m quite sure they are going to overnerf the class with next patch anyway. The main problem with necros imo is the aoe, they can apply conditions and other stuff aoe way too easily. That’s why weapons like necro staff are poorly designed.
There will always be one dominant spec/traitline for a particular role for a class.
Yea sure, that sounds like “i know a terror nerf will force every condi necro and his dog into a single spec, but since i don’t play the class i don’t really care”. You don’t seem unbiased at all, sry.
No, if this is implemented zerging would NOT be “valid” since it would mean less loot and therefore people that zerged (quite usual for guilds to build smaller zergs and run around taking keeps, should we not be allowed to do so without being punished?) would be getting less stuff for the same “work”
Awesome then. I don’t really see the problem there. Zerging is for baddies anyway isn’t it? Are you a zerg lover?
My bias comes from match after match of facing nothing but AOE mindless condition spam.
Lol i remember a tpvp match i played today. The enemy team had like 1 condi necro, 1 engi, 1 mm, 1 guard and 1 war (with longbow aoe burn ofc). Lol we had one fight at mid point it was just pathetic. Minions everywhere, the engi dropped his kittening supply drop (one of the most retared elites in game) and started spamming nades, the other necro spammed marks like no tomorrow…dunno about the others but i’m sure the guard was there as well spamming ww every time was off cd. On top of that we had a necro as well…other marks…and our mesmer even dropped that kittening c storm on point while shattering around, just cos there was not enough confusion already. “Luckily” we managed to spam more than them. And that was nothing, i’ve seen worse.
Necromancers need the offensive combination of Terror and Burning to be nerfed in some way without killing condi builds (which a Terror nerf would do).
Totally agree. What they should do imo is removing the burning trait and nerf somehow the aoe condi spam. My fear is they are going to overnerf necro condi spec, making it pretty much up. It’s not like something like this did not happen in the past.
I mean it wasn’t to long ago that people complained that it was power > all and that was limiting, teams ran shatter mesmers, burst thiefs, 1 bunkers and a power ele and something else (condi engi).
Now necro’s have a burn (which i agree is way overkill), weakness got buffed (for the better, but perhaps a little to much 20% is worth a try) and they added a little bit of tourment. I will say that increased mark size may be a little to large
I really don’t see what changed so much. I think the proposed make heals clear conditions and then make you immune or adding more condition removal will just radically swing balance back to power > all and I dont want to see that. I think small adjustements which Anet is aware of with the necro will go a long ways ( and maybe slightly nerfing engi burn trait as well).
Also I think the AOE of condis that everyone is complaining about is the 2-3 necros on a team spamming large aoe condi’s (which will hopefully change when they do the balance change), aside from that I think conditions are fine and at times underwhelming against the consistent strong builds prior to this patch due how fast you “can” clear conditions.
I agree. Necros have not changed that much tbh, the biggest change (which should be removed totally) is the burning trait. That said i believe the main problem are not condi, but aoe condi spamming (and necros and engis are kings of aoe spamming). With next “big” patch they are probably going to nerf necros condi spec, making it totally useless (cos it’s too late to rework all the kittening aoe skills they have, nerf condi dmg and maybe terror is way easier). Engi are going to be nerfed too. As a result every kid and his dog will switch back to power specs, and players will find something else to qq about on the forumz.
Well i agree condition spam atm is simply ridiculous, but i don’t think it’s an easy thing to balance. Everyone can come on the forumZ, cry and/or make suggestions, but real game is different. It’s so easy to say “anet devs suck they don’t know how to balance this game here are my awesome suggestions!!!!!111”. Let’s talk about necros, the mistake they made imo was giving them burning. Terror is not the problem, fear is definitely strong but without that no one is going to use necros again in tpvp. The problem with necros is different imo, the class is poorly designed, way too much aoe, weapons like necro staff (4 huge aoe marks impossible to block) should not exist in this game.
The whole physical/cond dmg system is bad tbh, but ppl need to realize conditions are meant to actually kill, they are not there just to annoy. The problem is they are just too easy to reapply and, again, way too many skills apply conditions aoe. That’s the real problem with this game, the aoe is insane. I still don’t understand why they designed classes with so many kittening aoe skills in a game mode based around point capping. Aoe spamming is again the reason why the other “pvp” mode, wvw, sucks. I’m 100% sure devs have realized how bad aoe spamming (exp aoe condi) is in this game, they are not stupid. The problem is they probably don’t know how to fix this, and i don’t really blame them for this. Sadly i think it’s too late, they should rework way too many things, way too many weapons and skills.
@OP: although i agree with most of your points, no, i don’t think your are unbiased.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Reaper_of_Souls
This dagger does not exist in game. There’s no way after almost 1 year the recipe has yet to be discovered. So i suppose is a bug…is this intended or not? Is there a reason why this dagger cannot be found anywhere?
Still not fixed. Bump for this beautiful staff.
Still not fixed. Bump.
Is the second one male or female? It’s hard to tell…
Lol anyway yea i noticed that as well. They are not available tho, they are probably going to be purchasable with gems…
Barrage isn’t enough…. Hell Ranger in general needs more AOE skills…but Longbow should be our AOE weapon in my mind.
No. It’s quite the opposite…other classes should have way less aoe skills.
Now you’re just being plain insulting!
Insulting?! Not really my intention. I may agree that’s not the worst bug in this game, probably isn’t even a “bug”…perhaps they designed the staff without thinking about the black scythe animation. And btw that black scythe used to be “bugged”/misplaced on final rest as well, it was even more noticiable.
This staff is not cheap to craft/buy, therefore not many ppl have it; also i’m confident a good part of them don’t even read this forum…if we consider the ones who do, probably only a few of them actually post, and they might not even have noticed the problem.
(edited by Fjandi.2516)
I’m guessing most people aren’t really bothered by it. I actually think it looks fine
More likely they haven’t even noticed it. And tbh how could that look nice? I mean the black scythe is totally misplaced. I am fine with you being fine with that, but really i doubt you could actually provide a rational reason for your opinion, it’s more something like “i like it cos i like it/i know it’s bugged but i like it anyway”.
Basically imo they shouldn’t have added dhuumfire. It was a bad idea. The condition spamming in pvp is just pathetic right now. Sadly they will never admit they have made a mistake by creating that trait, so they are going to nerf terror instead. Ofc they are going to overnerf it like they did with other things in this game.
Bump. A solution would be a rotation by 180 degrees of the staff while wielded, since i suppose the “black scythe” is a standard animation and cannot be changed for this staff only (not sure). This might fix the bug.
Hello
As the title says i want to ask why shortbow is so popular on the ranger, because everytime i see another ranger in SPvP i know he will start to pewpew me.
I know there are better ranged weapons than shorbow like double axes so ¿why dont use those? (also you can use 2 sigils).
First of all, double axe sucks.
The shortbow is still awesome even after the range nerf, that’s because it’s a very fast and mobile weapon, plus you have good abilities on it. I don’t give a kitten about bleeds, i run a power defensive build and the shortbow physical dmg is not that good, but i still use the weapon just for its utilities.
1) pet leash reduced to 900
2) Pet revive nerf
3) BM trait line balance
Keep Crying Please.8407
Tbh what i want is:
Make longbow good in tpvp, which means rework it a bit, especially the autoattack.
Improve pet mechanic…this does not mean “pls make it op”, this means make it deeper, give us more options etc. Pet mechanic in this game is just bad and poorly implemented.
Themightyaltroll told me about a ranger that guarded a pet at a location and then roamed alone. Said player was using RaO and greatsword and “beating other players”. Is this a viable playstyle in certain team comps? Has anyone seen this play before? I think a build like that sounds kind of fun but is it useful or viable? You discuss.
Yes it’s viable. Tbh i used to send my pet around every time while staying on points. And i definitely say that was quite stupid and close to op. Lol i could stay safe on point defending while my bloody raven was chasing ppl around the map. Quite funny tho. The problem is if u wanna use guard you have to waste an utility slot for that. That’s not a good idea imo. Also gs is a good weapon BUT i pretty much never use it. The problem is a ranger playing without 1h sword is gimping himself and a ranged option is often a good choice. RaO is amazing, probably the best elite we have, the only problem are boon corruptions/steals, but tbh if the ranger is a bit smart he could avoid that most of the times.
xom you talk like you are the best in spvp
Really? Do you even read posts?
Im not even a top player Im just some random WvW dude that ran a meta build
Also theres no way I can play with him. Im on EU hes on NA.
I know m8 my comment wasn’t directed at you specifically.
Constructive criticism is good. It pushes us to excel. Mindlessly accepting everything someone says leads to complacency.
Absolutely, that’s why i don’t like copying builds made by other players; i have my own head and i like using it. Tbh i really liked the video made by the OP i remember at the end he said something like “don’t copy meta builds, think with your own head, my build is really strong but you might find something even stronger”. I mean i completely agree with him on this, that’s why i don’t really understand his attitude on the forum sometimes.
Ive tried your potentate build. Its a good variation of GC and survivability. However it is not nearly as effective as you make it out to be. Its so easily countered by good positioning and plays by other opponents it wouldnt be viable in high level tpvp.
How do u know u used that build properly? Cos u tried it once? I’m not commenting on those builds since i rarely play necro and i’m mainly a ranger but most ppl on this forum are nonsense. The OP offered to help ppl any time he’s on. He’s willing to show how to play those builds. He’s ready to prove himself in game. It’s not like he’s hiding behind his computer like most “i iz pr0” players do. So ye i really don’t understand you guys…talk to him and play with him, then you can come here and kitten talk all you want. Is it that hard? Or maybe some of you are actually scared he might be right on some points?

Bump. My eyes bleed every time i see the animation. This staff is just too beautiful it deserves perfection.
This thread deserves a bump. Are we the only 2 players who have noticed this bug?
A lot of masks do this. Especially with eyebrows and eye spacing. I’ve had to buy numerous makeover kits and adjust my characters face to fit inside the confines of the headpieces. Aetherblades helm I had to lower brow thickness, eye spacing, bridge width, and nose length
So basically you had to buy makeover kits and pay money to mend anet errors. Wow. The lack of perfectionism of anet guys is upsetting. But hey don’t worry to console yourselves you can always buy the new awesome panda/bear/quaggan hats!
This happens with other masks as well, like the “PvP Outlaw’s Mask” (i don’t know the pve name). But this does not occur with every face, only with certain ones, like some faces have a longer nose.
Weapon: “The Crossing” (staff)
Profession: necromancer only
So this bug got reported yesterday in the “[March] Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?” thread by Aveneo.2068 but since anet asked us to create “individual specific threads” i’ve created a new one.
This happens with every race. Basically the “black scythe” animation is not correctly aligned with the staff.
This is the bug report made by Aveneo.2068:
Weapon: The Crossing
Class: Necromancer
Character: Charr Female (not sure if this matters)
Issue: The black ‘scythe’ is not properly aligned and needs to be angled a few degrees closer to the staff so the bottom end flows around the ‘arm’ portion of the weapon.
We are going to unsticky this thread due to the frequency of these posts. Many of these issues are so different that it would greatly benefit us if they could be individual specific threads instead of one giant sticky post.
Thank you.
Are we going to see a new thread regarding this topic? I was looking everywhere for a June or July thread because I wanted to report a graphical issue.
You should create a new thread about that bug tbh. I crafted my “The Crossing” staff tonight and yea i soon noticed the same issue. It happens with all races (my char is human) so no it’s not a famale charr problem. I believe this bug happens cos the staff is not perfectly straight, they probably designed the “black scythe” for straight stakitten only. Anyway pls open a new thread about that, i’ll take other screens so we can show the issue on different chars as well.
I believe it depends on the shape of the armor piece…if the armor is totally “flat/adherent to the body” then the hair won’t clip through the chest. Imo is not an armor problem, is a hair-related problem, the hair should not clip through the armor but should change shape and adapt depending on the armor sesign.
Don’t get your hopes up too high…they probably won’t fix this. I have reported so many graphical bugs…none of them has been fixed. They don’t realize some people hate this kind of bugs and even stop playing their chars because of that. If i were them i would put much more effort into fixing graphical bugs, this would improve the game experience for lots of players and would give a better image of anet.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Corrupted-Orrian-Epaulets-graphical-bug/first#post2312658
I reported this bug like a month ago. Nothing. I stopped reporting other bugs since i don’t like wasting my time but this one is really annoying and should be fixed. I am fully confused tbh, they had spent time to design those armors, and some of them are awesome (not that many, but still…), i can’t believe they don’t care about graphical bugs.
That guy with a legendary is truly amazing.
I know it’s annoying dude, but i really doubt there’s something they could do about that. It’s minor clipping and it often happens with long hair. It’s not an armor-related problem.
Nobody else played a tanky power bm before this patch? this is an improvement with only one exeption: petswap catburst, aside from that it’s higher dps I’m liking it alot.
I play a bm power based ranger basically since realease. Shortbow sword/warhorn is the right setup. My build and traits are different, but i play ranger in pvp only so i don’t know if that would work in pve. My spec has remained totally unchanged for many months, since last patch i changed 1 trait tho. I can tell you in my experience a power based bm ranger works fine and if played right is very hard to kill, is not the best point defender tho and in team fights in not that awesome (i am talking about pvp).
This nerf was unmotivated and quite stupid but you know anet guys thought ranger pets were tarribad before the spec became fotm lol. Anyway shortbow is still fine imo, at least in pvp. I suppose in pve you can swap out the shortbow for longbow, but in pve you can play pretty much whatever you want with little or no problems tbh.
p/d thieves are the bane of all existence in WvW.
And…you know what? This is s-tpvp forum, and we don’t give a kitten about wvsw xD
+1
Actually there is no reason to specify “s-t” anymore lol. They finally moved wvw to another forum section, since wvw is not really pvp.
i rly think this is bullcrap… is the purpose to drive the Ranger class to the ground? Nerfing SB is supposed to make LB acceptable?!… in all this kitty litter they could AT LEAST just give the Torment Condition to Rangers too imo :/
Dev n.1: “kitten how could we make the ranger longbow viable?”
Dev n.2: “We should rework its skills totally, it’s just bad atm”
Dev n.3: “Nah that’s way too hard, just nerf the shortbow to the same level, this way rangers will have a choice!”
Why does anyone believe these patch note’s, they aren’t even from Anet.
I hope your right.
That was the point. In a recent SOAC episode, two of the devs confirmed that BM ranger was OP. They said something like they didn’t want people to afk while their pet did massive damage.
Lol, that’s what those hardmode mesmers say on the forumZ….kitten a ranger’s pet killed me cos i was too busy running around spamming phantasms. Ye lots of rangers do pretty much the same, they just dodge and run and let the pet attack and in fact they just suck and they are totally useless in teamfights. As any other build in this game the bm ranger (on a side note bm ranger means nothing, there are lots of different bm builds) can be played well or poorly. I am not saying it’s a hard build to play, just isn’t easier than most other gw2 builds.
Raven: Blinding Slash: Reduced damage by 34%.
Wow f2 34% dmg nerf lol. Seriously i ain’t a crybaby but anet….anet….
Also shortbow 900 range!
Hello,
Just started up a ranger, and I’m actually kinda disappointed by the longbow. It seems to only do marginally more straight damage than a shortbow, with a massive speed decrease.
I love the idea of having the damage distance based, and I really like a longer range sniper-type deal, but I feel like I kitten myself every time I use a longbow. Does it get better? Is there something I’m missing?
First of all do you play pve, wvw or spvp? In pve you can basically play whatever you like. In wvw is pretty much aoe spamming and zerg fights so ye…again use whatever you like. In pvp the longbow is not that good imo…Hunter’s Shot and Point Blank Shot are nice but the autoattack is simply too slow, the weapon itself is so kittening slow. It feels nice cos is quite realistic (much more than the shortbow), but is not really viable atm. The shortbow is much faster, you have a second way to apply poison (sword #3 and sb #2), a good evade, a snare and an interrupt. In my opinon the shortbow is better, and i’ve played with both for a long time.
Hello everyone! I currently have a level 60 ranger. Lately, I’ve been using short-bow or longbow and axe/torch. I’m eventually going to be traiting to be a BM bunker build (slowly making my way there now). Something I’m a little apprehensive about is being pigeon-holed into using a sword. I really don’t enjoy having to take my auto-attack off, and even when I do, it’s still a pain to dodge.
If your not using sword you are gimping yourself. That’s the best weapon rangers have. About the autoattack ye it takes a while to get used to it, but personally i use sword with no problems at all and i never take my autoatt off.
I would say that You will be at major disadvantage WITH using sword
Ofc you will be at major disadvantage if you don’t know how to use it properly.
I made a norn char today in order to verify if this bug appears on other races as well. The armor was not bugged at all. The epaulets looked how they were supposed to look even while the char was in combat or running. Since changing race is not an option pls fix this bug.
I have the suspect this bug report was just a waste of time (pretty much like every graphical bug report in this forum section). Bump anyway, since this beautifully designed armor needs to be fixed!
