Your build isn’t really a ranger build. It is more of an Asura build. Hardly applies to rangers as a class.

Absolutely this is a very nice idea and tbh i don’t really understand why healing skills don’t work like that in the first place.
Lol didn’t even know about those. Yea that elite would be awesome, sounds like thieves guild “oh damn i suck and i’m loosing the fight so i call 2 npcs to help me”. Dust trap is quite cool too.
It’s a good thing legendary bows suck so i don’t have to waste my precious time farming to get them. The warhorn is quite cool tho.
That said more “rare” pets would be nice.

Last night i remember i met a thief and an ele on a flag in temple of the silent storm. I downed the thief but u know their downed state is so broken i couldn’t finish him fast, so i had to kill the ele before. Was fun.
Oh anyway is not only the regen is mainly protection buff mixed with lots of dodges and high toughness. Invuln is not worth it we have better options and healing spring is not that good in hot join pvp. Even the improved soth is not a must hunter’s shot and call of the wild are enough to grant your pet the speed he needs.
I understand most rangers don’t like a spec like this and ye i wish we had valid ranged dps specs.
Nah, ranger sucks. Let everyone thinks so. This way when a thief gets slaughtered by a ranger can only think to himself “omg i got killed by a kittening ranger”.
Use pets with higher toughness. Time your healing and pet swaps intelligently. If it is a boss with massive melee or aoe damage then use spiders and hit them from range.
Pets really are not THAT weak but you can’t just send them off to attack and forget about them. You need to take care of them.

1h sword is my main weapon. Sry but i think is just amazing, my whole build would probably not work without it. I don’t say this to look “leet” or something, that’s just my honest opinion. 1h sword is an evasive weapon, and does that very well. Depends on your playstyle ofc. The ranger has still lots of problems but IMO 1h sword aa is defo not one of them.
With a bunker spec if i need an emergency heal usually that means i have 3 or more ppl on me. In this case i would prefer running away instead of staying in the same place with healing spring cos the second option won’t save my life anyway. Ye ofc if you have to hold a point healing spring is the best choice.
If you’re using Healing Spring Nature’s Bounty is best, if not Nature’s Protection is better.

I don’t like cond builds much, but anyway i would defo use 1h sword instead of the axe just for the evasive skills, that weapon is really that amazing.
The 33% regen can be decent but is still not worth it imo.

Why? Probably for the same reason they thought thieves needed a speed buff while stealthed.
Deleven is right if u like the ranger just play it, is not that bad, it just requires a bit more experience. Tbh i have played every class just to learn how to counter them but i can’t imagine myself playing a diff class on a daily basis.
Jaguar is good. Actually if specced right pets can hit quite hard. My raven almost soloed a rifle warrior a few days ago, true story.
Well ye it is slow. I think the longbow autoattack should actually be reworked, as it is now it’s the main problem we have with the lb, and that’s annoying since other skills are ok.
uhhh that’s not even a problem, take it off auto attack.
My autoattack is not off and i have no problems at all…
Anyway this patch is ok, that’s pretty much what i expected. Arrows speed buff was defo needed and pets seem better. Sadly no real spirits buffs tho, quite disappointing…but hey maybe the 2 ppl working on class balance lacked the time for that…who knows.
In hotjoin, with survival + pet master build, ranger have a good stand especially 1v1 now

Bows are meh tbh, quite weak. They can do “almost ok” dmg if u spec for it but why should i gimp myself? Longbow skills 3,4,5 are fine btw, i see the lb more like an utility weapon, which is quite sad… but as it is now the autoattack is plain bad.

Meh their feet being too small it’s not really the only issue tbh. Humans are completely disproportionate… their legs are too long, head too small. Ye well u can increase the head size but that would not fix the problem since you cannot modify the legs. Sylvari are more proportionate. Norns look like some sort of freaks.
Nope sry the ranger is not “great” in pvp. I tried every possible setup with this class since is the class i like the most and i usually play. At the end i’ve perfectioned my bunker build and ye i feel almost op at times but really it doesn’t mean the class is great. I actually agree with Dante on this, ranger evasion bunkers (pretty much what my ranger is) are good 1v1 (or 1vn, n>1) and that’s all.

Mmm that’s exactly what i use (sword/warhorn, longbow -yes, longbow-, ravens as pets). I haven’t seen many rangers with a build like mine. That’s funny tbh a friend of mine (a really good thief player) says exactly the same thing about this spec, it’s a thief-looking ranger spec. The spec i use is pretty much def based but i run 30 points in beastmastery, and my dear raven has actually a nice burst. It’s like an evasive tank: your pet deals most of the dmg, while u disorient the enemy player with your evasive 1h sword skills (meh, i actually have almost 2k power myself, without counting the bloodlust bonus). This spec is really effective in spvp. Ofc you might have problems against a very good thief, but he won’t take you down easily anyway, and u can always run away. Tribant if u want more info about the spec feel free to ask.
that’s why i have no fear bout nerfs, you can always figure out something good with what they give to you….

Some ppl say something about squishines, i am far from squishy with long stelths and massive regen in stealth and remove condition in stealth.
Eh eh do you really think most thief players have given their honest opinions about the class? Nah most of them are too afraid of being nerfed (or are just bad). People like you who like a challenge are really the minority. Being a competitive person myself i kind of understand them. And tbh i’m fine with thief, i even play it sometimes. Well stealth as it is now is broken, that’s the only thing that should be fixed. I always smile when a thief brings up the “better” warrior survivability.
I admit, in sPvP, thieves feel rather ‘OP’. I’ve been playing a thief for quite a while, and most people in sPvP browser rooms are all thieves at times. This can get rather frustrating for newer players and so.. but I feel thieves aren’t really ‘OP’. When I play in sPvP, many times I can easily come out as top of the team with higher than 10 kills without much trouble.. Why? It’s 8v8 on a 10 player map, sometimes it’s like ‘crowded’ with players. All you have to do if your running BS thief is snipe someone, get out. You don’t need to finish the player, someone else in the whole zerg most probably will.
But thieves aren’t really OP in my eyes at all, when I set foot to tPvP. Good players easily counter thieves and make us look like jokers. We can’t even be taken seriously at times when there are so many bunkers out there. It’s not like WvW where a full stealth build would actually get you somewhere, since you could cap while in stealth. Full stealth build has not really much of a use in tPvP imo. If you can’t tank, hold points, or fight in a zerg, your pretty much not needed. I’ve not even won a good tanky D/D elementalist even once. Everytime I fight them, I end up losing, really quick if I’m not careful. Yes, I run backstab, but not full glass. I spec a lot (15) into acrobatics, and as someone said ‘infinite dodges’ with Signet of Precision, around a maximum of 6 dodges. Still, I have a lot of trouble fighting those classes, let alone kill them. Once my dodges are spent, I definitely have to retreat and if they’re good, I’ll probably be dead. No, it sounded like I could stall, but I most certainly cannot. Getting hit by even more than one CC is dangerous as a thief, even with close to 16k health. Spamming HS (with haste too) will get a thief nowhere in tPvP against bunkers. Full backstab combo doesn’t even do much, and when guards are in the area, you can’t even simply try and backstab someone. Chances are, they’ll have aegis on them. If Mug is blocked, you can pretty much say goodbye. The damage on backstab now isn’t even ‘ridiculously’ high. Maybe it is to all of you people who run full glass and expect to live.

3. Thieves should only be able to re-enter stealth if their initiative is full or nearly full. Right now, they can come out of stealth with both guns blazing for 3 seconds, and then just restealth while they regain their initiative and get ready to do it all over again. Their opponent has little time to actually fight back as the burst damage potential of the thief leaves most players on the defensive to begin with. It’s difficult to do a lot of damage when you spend the 3 second revealed debuff dodge rolling and using stun breakers to escape instant death. This change would force thieves to make tactical decisions about how they’re going to handle a fight. They can break stealth and burn their initiative in an attempt to kill their target outright, or they can be more tentative with mostly autoattack and maybe a low init attack or two before restealthing to assess the fight.
That’s a nice idea.
You’re take on thieves is very, very off IMO. Your first point is just impossible. You’re talking about taking our class ability (which without traits is basically just a 45s CD gap closer) down from kind of bland to straight up bad. Your suggestion would nerf every single thief build in the game to stop 1 spec, something Anet’s been doing and the thief community has not enjoyed. I wont weigh in on whether or not Instagib needs to be nerfed, but if it does, Anet has to find a way to nerf glass cannons that won’t ruin the more moderate builds.
As for 3, stealth is already limited enough. Its short duration, has a CD (via revealed), and access to it isn’t guaranteed (its on dagger OH for half your standard initiative bar, can be accessed via utilities/one of our heals, or via combo fields). Limit it any further, and you’ll have to buff thieves survivability somewhere else, and we’ll turn into dodgy medium armor warriors.
Concerning quickness, yeah, its silly. Its too easy to mitigate the downsides (Sig of agility for thieves, endure pain for warriors, etc), and it’s just a bad idea.
Stealth limited enough? What? A DB spammer thief if well played is very hard to catch. Steath is 4 secs with the trait. Luckily most thieves suck so they don’t use c&d well but really c&d is not the only way to stealth…hide in shadows, shadow refuge etc.
Thief damage is fine as it is. Backstab is also fine, if you are pure glasscannon yea a thief can kill you in a few seconds, it’s their job after all. A backstab thief have low vit and tough, so he has to sacrifice pretty much everything to boost his dmg. This on paper…in reality their stealth abilities give them an awesome survivability. That’s the problem imo. If anything their dmg should be buffed for some builds, like p/p (this setup is a joke right now), s/p (this was already the easiest build to counter, the pistol whip nerf was an unneeded nerf imo).
To summarize this thread:
Thief player: “the class is fine as it is”
Non thief player: “the class is broken should be nerfed”

First of all i don’t play as a ranger often sadly but when i do i usually run something similar. I find tank builds to be the best tbh.
I know healing spring is pretty static but if you stay in skill range it grants 15 secs of vigor (vig renewal), combined with protection on dodge is quite good. Also i find the birds better than other pets, they just hit the target easier…i don’t use often the 30% pet speed buff tho (i usually use the 30% crit dmg). As weapons i usually use sword/horn (speed buff) and shortbow. Tbh is think the longbow is not that bad, mainly for hunter’s shot (probably combined with the horn swiftness buff Agility Training would not be a must have anymore).
As i said i’m not a ranger expert tho, i’ll try your build out for sure.
If I hurt your feelings I apologize. I applaud you for loving to play your ranger. Just sick of hearing all the complaints of why it doesn’t play like a warrior when its NOT a flippin warrior.
Np ye i’m sick of reading that too. Actually i don’t play a ranger atm, sadly. It was ofc the first class i picked. Then i tried a mesmer…i felt depressed looking at the ranger.
Just to clarify i think rifle warrior is a very fun class if you like a ranged dps, but it’s not a ranger and it’s not an archer. A sniper wearing heavy armor feels so wrong tbh.
Yeah, maybe i’m all doom and gloom but after the SwTor fiasco i find myself much less resilient to incompetence that i used to be since i have a feeling that this game is starting to go the same route.
I feel you tbh. I have played warhammer online in the last 2 years…i have never ever seen so much incompetence, devs did not fix class imbalances even after years, no communication at all…lots of players quit ofc. It seems like i’m reliving the same things again reading this forum, and this worries me a lot.

WHY should a ranger reroll warrior? Ah ok cos he doesn’t like the pet, i got it. What if doesn’t like the heavy armor warrior playstyle? What if the ranger was the class he used to play (maybe for years) in gw1? Another example of flawless logic here.
Reroll thief or warrior. Thief with shortbow and warrior with longbow are superior to ranger with em, among other things.
I understand what you mean but i don’t really like that kind of suggestions tbh. Your argument is kind of valid but if someone really wanted to play a class (let’s say…a ranger) choosing another class would only make the game boring. I logged in yesterday cos a friend of mine asked me did a few scs with my mesmer then logged off. It’s not like “i quit in protest against anet” i simply don’t find the game worth playing anymore. It’s a bit sad actually yes, mostly cos i wasted money on this game but there are lots of other games around.
Maybe what i expected from the ranger does not coincide with what the devs want, meh. I like my mesmer and i had lots of fun playing it, it’s just not really the class i want to play. That’s probably why my max lvl char is only 31 and i only play spvp. There are lots of bad designed things in this game tbh.
Do you wanna play a sniper-like char? Oh sry you are forced to play a heavy armored warrior lol cos the devs gave the engi a shotgun…
Do you like playing your thief as p/p? Fine but you will see that build is quite bad compared to other builds…apparently devs don’t care…

It doesn’t seem so tbh. Lots of players (including me) were waiting for quivers to be added into the game. That said ofc a pet fix (for ex) would have been a more important thing to work on…
Oh c’mon the whiny baby comment is a bit commonplace, you could do better. Anyway no sry it doesn’t look like they put much effort into making armors for charrs. They just took the skin and adapted it to charr body. I don’t expect them to make this game perfect. Small clipping issues exist in every game i’ve played we just need to accept them. The tail clipping is not a small issue tho. They actually modified some armors by creating a “hole” for the tail, so it’s not like they are not aware what the problem is.
Are there more serious problems? Ofc there are. But u know there are also different teams working on different aspects of the game.
It wasn`t my intention to insult their work, this game is awesome. I just hope them to fix this issue. More people will play as charr for sure.
