Tobias what do you mean “few”, let me introduce you to….. TRAHEARNE!!!!!!!
But on a serious note – I’m pretty sure Majory is oblivious to Kasmeer’s affection. I always got vibes from Ellen Kiel – so maybe when Majory rejects her she can go off with Kiel into the sunset. (The short story where Ellen greets Kasmeer as she arrives on Southsun…. Am I the only one who got those vibes?)
“Marjory Delaqua: I’ve been thinking about Scarlet.
Kasmeer Meade: She can’t have you. (She says this abruptly)
Marjory Delaqua: She’s behind all these crazy alliances. I’d rest my reputation on…wait. What did you say?
Kasmeer Meade: (laugh) I think you’re right. She has all the landmarks of a blooming psycho hag.”
There is an issue, however, in that the Mursaat were essentially friendly and fought against the dragons. Once the dragons were gone, then issues arose. And since GW2 revolves around the dragons, I cannot imagine them being much of a threat, yet.
This is false.
The Mursaat were never friendly and did not assist the other races in fighting against the dragons. They found a way to phase themselves out of Tyria and did so, leaving the other races alone to fight the dragons. They are pretty evil…
Either before or after this point (though I think before?) the Mursaat had been at war with the Seer’s, who did not come out very well.. So yeah. Definitely evil.
So they said it was a love story? I can’t find the livestream, but I would be surprised and a bit dissapointed if it were true. Marjorie and Kasmeer felt a bit like Elsa and Anna from the new Frozen movie. Strong but definitely considered sisterly love. (as much as fans would like it to not be) Could they have meant that kind of true, unbiased, sisterly love? Again, I can’t find the stream so I can’t read into it but its not like they couldn’t go either way with the love story. The lesbian story just feels… a bit overdone in my opinion.
Their relationship definitely isn’t sisterly. Kasmeer has said a LOT of things to hint that she has romantic feelings fore Majory. But Majory has never once indicated that these feelings are returned.
I have to confess I did not read all of your post, it’s a little bit long for me to work through in my present tired state. But I definitely agree with what I did read.
I think Kieran is actually a really good example of what they were going for with Logan, they just never got there. He’s such an unlikable character for me and I feel like a lot of this comes down to him not actually ever being redeemed (in my opinion). It’s sort of like they tried to introduce a ton of character flaws to make him more likable – but then never actually extended him beyond his flaws.
Except Quaggans. BURN THEM ALL.
The problem with that is that Glint was only “good” because she existed BEFORE she was corrupted and then the corruption was eventually removed from her by the Forgotten (Serpent like race from GW1). The Dragons are the source of corruption, rather than corrupted beings themselves, which would sort of suggest that they don’t have the capacity for good.
Also it’s worth pointing out that it has been named the Jungle Dragon by players. There has been no official confirmation of it’s name or titles. Also given that the most likely location of Mordremoth is the Maguuma Wastes – I would hazard a guess that he isn’t conducive to growth. The Maguuma Wastes was a thriving ancient Jungle in GW1, we can’t go there in GW2 yet but from the map it seems as though the entire area has been dried out – sort of like the top corner of Brisban Wildlands.
The Sylvari Wyld hunts are more likely to have been influenced by Ventari’s tablet and it’s teachings, since you can generally follow a Wyld Hunt as coming from one of his teachings.
Of course you could be absolutely right, I just think it would be kind of weird for them to give us an Elder Dragon as an ally – it would downplay the importance of the player character’s actions even more than they have been already.
I wouldn’t call the humans fat… But they definitely don’t actually have the option of truly being thin (males at least). They all have barrel bodies, I think that’s possibly the best way of putting it, it’s not that they are fat, it’s just that there is no shape to their waists. Whereas the Sylvari definitely do have shape.
Whilst I would love to see the Mursaat make a comeback – I feel like Anet would be putting a little too much on their plate to reintroduce the Mursaat at this point in time.
Tbh in a way I hope not, Mursaat = agony, if this is in a dungeon then fine but Id hate to see people having to get ar just to enter a pve open map zone.
Agony is not Spectral Agony. They may function the same way mechnically, but in terms of lore they are very different things. So I don’t think you need to worry about it, if they brought Spectral Agony in then I would expect them to go with GW1 style infusion for it, rather than using Agony Resistance. (Unless it was in FoTM, in which case they’d just use AR)
Whilst I would love to see the Mursaat make a comeback – I feel like Anet would be putting a little too much on their plate to reintroduce the Mursaat at this point in time.
The dwarves have all been turned to stone and are fighting the destroyers – there is not a lot to discover there since none of them would hold a conversation with you and they would be the exact same dwarves we met in GW1….
Basically what FlamingFoxx said. They’re not actually smaller though – slider is the same for both races.
Their body mass is smaller – by which I mean most of the body presets are thinner than the human equivalents (at least when it comes to men, I imagine the females are probably ridiculously proportioned for both Sylvari and human).
Because we are the exact same size and shape as them (ok maybe a tiny bit smaller). But anatomically we match humans almost identically, we even share most of their models. So it makes sense from a development standpoint to use the same animations. If they could have done so with the other races they would, but their proportions necessitate different animations.
If you’re asking WHY Sylvari are humanoid? That’s sort of like asking why humans are humanoid. They just are that way.
^— Agreed. IF the voice is anyone it would be the new Asura. But it is most likely just an omnipotent out of world narrator.
Wow this topic is really constructive…. Oh wait it isn’t, never mind!
I understand the idea behind that Trog, but that would make dungeons a nightmare…
Considering the wurm has three heads and it sounds like they will pop up in different locations to one another (and there is the potential for them to respawn if the others aren’t kill soon enough or something like that), I would say they’re more in line with Teq. It should be good
I can completely understand/sympathise. But regardless I’ve enjoyed all of the updates thus far, but yes permanent content would be much more appealing.
I’m prettttyy sure they’ve learned their lesson though. Once Scarlet’s arc is finished I expect them to head in a very different direction.
Abaddon is dead, both he and his power were absorbed by Kormir when she ascended to godhood. Upon absorbing his power his will was destroyed. <— Official information directly from IN NIGHTFALL. If they retconned lore that players have played there would be massive uproar…
Abaddon is gone for good. He absolutely cannot ever come back. The only way you are going to see him is in a fractal – which they’ve said they probably won’t make since people elected Ellen rather than Evon.
The voice is most likely like the voice used in all of the other update trailers for the living story – it’s just a random voice.
Other players purpose is not to convince you to play the game.
If you don’t want to play then that is your problem.
We don’t have the patch notes yet so we don’t have details on exactly what is being included, but a new living story arc, a new world boss and a new temporary boss is pretty notable. If that doesn’t sound interesting to you then go find some other way to spend your time.
I hope not. I would rather peoples first experience of the content be the content itself, not some ridiculous walkthrough posted beforehand.
These guys are great, I play on Sea of Sorrows and have joined TTS against Teq multiple times. They usually run it on a couple of overflows so it’s not difficult at all to get into at least one of the overflows.
The Massively preview suggests that the wurm is a side effect and that the true purpose of the DO-NOT-TOUCH’s is yet to be revealed.

Sorry, I live in a really awesome city where I’ve never had to hide anything and have never had any problems – so I do forget that it’s not the same everywhere else. My bad.
You know the dev’s don’t make the songs right? They’re all composed by Jeremy Song.
It’s actually Jeremy Soule. I have no idea where you got Jeremy Song.
Jeremy Soule also composed the Oblivion and Skyrim OST’s… along with a lot others including GW1.
Yeah it was a temporary lapse in memory >.>
I know it’s Soule, I had music on the mind and my brain for some reason told me to type song. But thank you for correcting me xD.
There is good writing and there is we put this in to cater to the XYZ crowd, but its all irrelevant as we should not be mixing moster slaying with silly and pointless real life crusades.
Relationships between characters (both intimate and not) contribute to a sense of immersion which is what a lot of people really love about games and MMO’s in particular. So I can understand if you just want to play the game, but a lot of us want to feel like we’re part of a plausible world.
My point is that in so far as relationships that are given prominence it seems only the gay ones get pushed into the spotlight. The Logan and Jennah relationship is too chaste – especially with no acknowledgement of attachment on the part of Jennah herself.
Before the confirmation of Marjory and Kasmeer, I would have suggested: Lord Faren and Lady Kasmeer. But with the confirmation of the gay bias for the prominent characters on the part of the Arenanet writing team and the way the characters I’ve listed I would say that Countess Anise is either Bi or Lesbian as well and Lord Faren is in the closet and is himself gay as well.
Only Ellen Kiel can be written as a convincing heterosexual love interest. And if she were to have a man in her life there should already be one that’s among her associates or team.
It isn’t a gay bias. Two gay relationships is a very very tiny amount. As is the point of most of the people in this forum is only seems like a lot/seems prominent because you aren’t used to seeing gay relationships in games/the media. So yeah, don’t be homophobic.
There are under used characters that could be used for romantic human pairings:
Countess Anise
Lord Faren
Captain Ellen KielAll three at present do not have any current or potiential romantic partners that I’m aware of. Each has had fairly prominent roles in current Lore and/or hold high office in either Divinity’s Reach or Lion’s Arch.
There are a lot of characters from every race who are not/not seen to be in a relationship. What’s your point?
Edge of Destiny was written by a writer from outside of Arenanet and whilst the novels have been checked there have been inconsistencies with the lore found in the novels vs. the lore found in game.
The dream is not a hive mind… The Pale Tree cannot force the Sylvari to do anything >.>
Lets also look at how mindless all previous dragon minions have proven to be. They may be intelligent but their goals and actions always head in one direction towards a single purpose.
I’m not going to continue with this, if you want to believe something so ridiculous as the pale tree being a dragon champion then go ahead. Nevermind the fact that this would make all Sylvari evil aides of an Elder Dragon… You could argue that the Pale Tree as a champion could be uncorrupted, but in your scenario the Sylvari are akin to a Destroyer in that they are MADE by the “champion” rather than being a previously living being – we know that you can’t uncorrupt a minion, you just kill them. So it wouldn’t make any sense given that we know the Sylvari to be good and given that it would make for the worst plot line ever if thye suddenly turned around and said, you know what, everyone who made a Sylvari is now evil.
Then there’s the fact that the Pale Tree is working to REMOVE the dragons from Tyria and that a ton of Sylvari have gotten Wylde Hunt’s from the dream to kill Zhaitain – including Trahearne who ends up leading the war effort against dragons -_-
Angel McCoy just posted in the lore forums saying that she too would like to see the return of Cantha:
Cantha has been shut off from the rest of the world for a very long time. Marjory’s parents and grandparents were all born and raised in Kryta, not Cantha. She is of mixed heritage as well. Just as in today’s world, we find men of Chinese ancestry named Kevin or Joshua, so Tyria has also become more of a melting pot. We will get more into Marjory’s history in the future.
But I hear you and everyone else who is hungry for some Canthan story to come back into the game. You’ll have to be patient. It won’t happen for awhile, but never say never.
You know the dev’s don’t make the songs right? They’re all composed by Jeremy Song.
Most MMOs have to do multiple servers per platform. This means servers for PS4, Servers for XBOX and Servers for PC. I doubt that Anet really wants to manage all of that.
Actually as far as I know all the MMO’s on PS4 are runnings off the same server as their PC counterpart e.g. FFXIV. So players playing the PC version can play with players playing the PS3 or PS4 version.
In any case, I imagine it would take a lot of work to bring GW2 to the PS4, considering they aren’t even willing to create a native OSX client it would be weird for them to make a PS4 client, at least in this stage of the PS4’s life, since the adoption rate is not incredibly fast (don’t get me wrong they’ve made a lot of sales, but right now a lot more people have PS3’s).
and Kieran is just sexy.
(Sorry for going off topic but I really feel as though that needed to be addressed)
It is possible, after all, that they are dragon minions of the jungle dragon (Mordremoth) and their good nature is merely the result of the Pale Tree being influenced by Ventari’s teachings.
Really, no. Play the “Where life goes, so too, should you.” personal story.
There are other pale trees and the Sylvari from there wish to fight the elder dragons too. Even without the influence of the tablet.
We’ve seen one Sylvari from one other tree, who, might I add, was isolated from his tree and influenced by the kindness of the wardens – who were then attacked by the Nightmare Court (which, if the theory that Sylvari are dragon minions is correct, would give him all the more reason to want to fight the elder dragons).
We’ve also (correct me if I’m wrong) never seen him again after he went to search for his kin. This would imply that he is either still searching or has met with an ugly fate – possibly even at the hands of his brothers.
As far as I’m concerned, that still leaves the distinct possibility that the pale trees are dragon champions. Dragon champions, after all, tend to often be identical (as was the case with the various Tequatl clones) and be capable of intelligent though. Glint also creates a precedent for dragon minions turning against their masters (the difference being that Glint was freed through magic, whereas the Pale Tree, if she is a dragon champion, was never subjugated in the first place).
You’re making a couple of errors. Glint was originally free and was then corrupted, and subsequently freed again. Any dragon champion who has always been a champion is one created specifically by the dragon and it is pretty obvious that they are so.
You’re forgetting one really prime piece of information as well, dragon champions are ALL draconic. Even the great destroyer had a dragon shaped body and wings. The pale tree is a tree. Then there’s the fact that dragons and their champions don’t simply magic up minions out of thin air, destroyers are made from lava and stone, jormag’s minions from ice or corrupted living creatures. The Pale tree produces Sylvari in the same way a normal tree produces fruit. It’s very different.
The pale tree is not a dragon champion, the Sylvari are not minions. It’s the most ridiculous theory ever that came out of one person misinterpreting one tiny little bit of information.
The Rytlock/Logan/Jenna triangle would like to have a word with you.
By the way, I am #teamRytlock.

Can we settle for trading for Pyre Fierceshot, Gwen and Kieran, and Vekk?
Yes we can. I <3 Pyre, Gwen, Kieran and Vekk.
The Rytlock/Logan/Jenna triangle would like to have a word with you.

The letter is clearly talking about Abaddon and then locating all of the dragons in relation to abaddon. But yeah, if it was official it would have been sent in the same way as normal NPC mail.
I guess one of my major points is that it seems statistically unlikely that we’d have another major lesbian relationship. Obviously this is not real life so a decision was made to have them be lesbians, and I question why lesbians AGAIN when we haven’t really had a gay relationship (besides that very minor one in the Sylvari PS).
Considering how little open gay relationships there are in sword&sorcery settings, it’s statistically unlikely to have even one homosexual relationship in the limelight.
Also, it’s not about calculating how represented every part of society has to be for a game to be acceptable, it’s about creating a good story. And when the writers are not convinced they can write certain characteristics well enough that it’s neither satisfying for them nor for the players, they shouldn’t.
To be fair that is because a large amount of high fantasy is written by straight white male authors with a straight white male audience in mind. Lesbian relationships are a lot less controversial than gay relationships. Also I don’t get how it could be about the writers writing it convincingly. A gay relationship is identical to a hetero relationship, the only difference is that both people are of the same gender. Unless you want to argue that stereotypes are an accurate and necessary part of portrayal >.> which they most certainly are not.
Also Tobias has a really good point. If all that was said is “love story” then that doesn’t mean they are in a relationship. Kasmeer undoubtedly has feelings for Majory, that is RIDICULOUSLY obvious from her dialogue. But all signs point to Majory being clueless to this, so it’s entirely possible that it is a one sided love story.
I don’t think that’s how datamining works – everything in the .dat isn’t arranged into nice little folders with helpful tags on it, as far as I know it’s literally just a giant jumble of information. It would be very difficult for data-miners to hunt for very specific things like that.
Nothing, as the game doesn’t require you to do any grinding.
This sentence is devoid of meaning. Grinding to do what? Nobody’s forcing you to do anything. If you don’t get ascended gear, your kids aren’t going to be panhandling in the streets. The concept of a game “requiring” you to do something is nonsense because you can just not play the game.
What Ensio meant is that the game provides you with multiple avenues to get most gear and doesn’t force you into the repetition of content. e.g. you don’t have to repeatedly run dungeons to get exotic spec’d gear because you also have the option of crafting it, getting it in FoTM, or just buying it off the TP.
Dear OP – sorry that you don’t like western voices but the voice acting in GW2 is superb and you are definitely a minority.
The game was created by an American company and as such there are no Japanese voices since it has not (and likely will not) be released in japan.
Hey everyone, we’re looking into this now. Could you name any specific NPCs or lines that you’ve heard this issue occurring with? Thank you!
It is on literally EVERY voice – my characters, any NPC’s whether it be a random NPC in Divinity’s reach or Ciathe in a dungeon.
Changing the mixing buffer slider fixes it within a map (I just push the slider to the opposite end then put it back).
-snip-
Good luck trying to explain the difference between voluntary progression systems and grind to people >.>
Where is Elona exactly? bottom right of the map next to Elon river? If an expansion was to add Elona wouldn’t they need to increase the World map?
The way they did it in GW1 was to create a completely new stand-alone map for the new continent. It worked
With GW2 they would be more likely to just add on to the existing map though.
GW1 the point was that zoomed out you could see the whole map – if they tacked Cantha and Elona on everything would have been too small. GW2’s map already doesn’t fit on the entire screen – you have to scroll up or down even on full zoom. So yeah, I think they would just tack them on at the bottom.
It was a statement made by the dev’s because they had to explain that neither Elona nor Cantha would be in the initial release of GW2.
We’ve always known that there is a possibility of them being opened up at a later date – but it has always been and will always be a possibility.
It is not a hint, it’s just a stated fact. It could be 1 year down the line, it could be 5, it could never ever happen.
@ Coltz, Elona is directly below the Crystal Desert – and yes they would have to add to the world map, but that is essentially what they had to do with GW1 as well, so it’s not a big deal. (Nightfall and Factions had separate world maps, whilst Eye of the North enlarged the Prophecies would map – the GW2 map shows you most of what the eye of the north map had on it, the original release of GW1 had a little bit less.

MIADIVER, I’m not sure what you expect from people?
Almost all AAA MMO’s are over 10GB in size nowadays, it’s a necessity of their complexity. That is data which has to downloaded in order for the game to be played – and yes it is a massive pain, but considering the depth and complexity of MMO’s it is a necessary evil. GW2 is actually smaller than a lot of other MMO’s out there.
Regarding the disc – game discs present a problem when it comes to MMO’s. MMO’s necessitate that their files be updated constantly. The discs are created at launch and as such the data on them gets outdated very quickly and in a lot of cases installing using a disc first can actually lead to a longer install time because in the end the game still has to download all the files again in order to catch up.
It’s not feasible for them to have new versions of the discs created throughout the year because the cost of that simply does not justify the outcome – it would also mean that any unsold copies would be obsolete and they would be creating more copies than were being sold and losing money.
So to sum up, I am terribly sorry that you’re having to go through the frustration of downloading the game – but every single person playing GW2 (and any other MMO) has had to go through the exact same process. Until everywhere has fibre internet there is not a whole lot we can do about it…
The Sylvari are gorgeous, sorry you feel that they aren’t but you’re certainly a minority.
I loved the original design, but I love the new design even more. They are beautiful creatures and really attractive. If you want to play an elf go play any other MMO…im what ? minority let me tell you this if they placed elfes and sylvari in the same game whic one do u think HONESTLY gona be more played ?? there is reason why humans and norn are moust played and the rest is pure junk there are statcs about this cheak them .
I have no desire to please the masses. The same is true in ANY MMO – people always play humans more than other races. Partially because it’s simply easier for people to create a human character, partly because it can help them with immersion, and partly because alternate races in MMO’s can be really weird looking. That does not however mean that the Sylvari are a badly designed race, and it does not mean that they are ugly. If we are going to follow your viewpoint then we should just get rid of Charr and Asura while we’re at it since they aren’t humanoid and aren’t attractive.
You’re arguing that the Sylvari should be elves because you want to play an elf – but the reality is that the Sylvari AREN’T elves and a lot of people like them. So yeah….
Before launch they definitely did say that every time you ran a dungeon you would receive 1 piece of gear. They decided to go down a different route however, and I trust that the decision process behind that was an intelligent one.
I can see pro’s and con’s to both the way things are and to the way it was originally announced – so really I can’t say which would be better :S
Exactly what lordkrall said.
We live in a very heterosexually oriented world and it is never an issue/noticed when heterosexual relationships are made prevalent because we simply expect it.
GW2 is hardly saturated in homosexuality and honestly it’s really really refreshing to have a game reflect an even slightly more even representation of the world and the diverse relationships that can be found within it.
The fact that you yourself are gay is hardly relevant (I am too!), but I do think it provides a good example as to exactly WHY this is a good thing. GW2 is managing to NOT marginalise homosexual relationships and as such it does make them a little bit more noticeable – but that is something to embrace not chastise. When people STOP noticing either homosexual or heterosexual relationships in game THEN we have gotten somewhere good. Until then, keep up the amazing work Anet – Majory and Kas have a very interesting dynamic going and I’m curious to see where the story leads.
