Blue, it stands out way more and creates really nice contrast!
There is a difference between having fun and acting like drunken 5 year olds.
Abaddon did not have a child and his powers were absorbed by Kormir so he could not have a successor.
Oy vey, this again.
Yup >.>
There is nothing to suggest that the population of Kryta is uneducated. They are not a medieval society, they exist in a fantasy world and possess magical abilities, so their development/advancement comes in a different shape to our world.
The fact is that the watchknights started killing people once SCARLET showed up. That will be the connection people will make. This isn’t a case of machinery malfunctioning, this is a case of very blatant hijacking – Scarlet wanted all of Humanity to KNOW what she had done, to know that she could best them. That was the entire point of her attack on Divinity’s Reach. She took a moment that was supposed to be triumphant for humanity, and showed how she could ruin that. The political opportunities are not as big as you seem to think they are.
It’s certainly not Abaddon, as we’ve already thoroughly established on these forums since the beta weekends (and before, in NF itself) that he is quite dead.
But the point about the Mursaat is intriguing, Anet has mentioned that they may bring back mursaat in the future in some form and there has been no mention since. They didn’t kill them all off, either. So far we know about Lazarus the Dire, but were all mursaat really that dedicated to being allied with (i.e. controlling of) the White Mantle? Somehow I doubt that an entire race would dedicate themselves to a human governing entity. There were likely mursaat that avoided being involved in the whole conflict in GW1 and we know that they are an elder race so there could possibly be more to them than we know.
On the other hand, nothing points to them at all in this story so it’d be pulling them from nowhere. I do maintain, however, that mursaat are still on the table and are always possible for future living story/expansions.
I don’t think it’s so much about being dedicated to the White Mantles cause – but possibly you have to question whether they would be willing to sit back while the player character in GW1 slaughtered their high ranking officials and a ton of their friends. xD. But I definitely think the Mursaat are prime candidates for LS in the coming years. The living story seems to be designed to offer non-dragon related content to bridge the time gap between the killing of dragons, so the Mursaat make for a pretty good enemy.
I’m younger than all of the staff in the livestream, and it looked unprofessional to me. So it’s not an age thing thanks >.>
Normally the staff who appear in Anet’s videos and livestreams are very professional so I would say this comes down specifically to those who were involved in todays stream.
The Charr were originally under the rule of the Flame Legion who, under the influence of the Titans, led them against humanity bringing the Searing upon Ascalon and leading assaults on both Kryta and Orr.
Obviously there are still tensions between the Charr and the humans, but there is a lot more possibility for a positive relationship and a return to war between the two races is highly unlikely, even just because it wouldn’t make any sense within the context of the game.
The flame legion only came to power over the charr about 500~ before GW2.(and about 300 years before the events of GW1) So they were not originally under their influence. They accepted it because it made them stronger, and allow them to combat the magics that humans could use.(plus they kinda melted anyone who said otherwise)
So that’s about 800+ years where the Charr were not led by the flame legion.
To add the whole reason for the “fields of ruin” map in GW2 is to emphasize the unease and tension between the humans and the Charr.
In addition to the fact that Charr are reared for battle and they are deemed ready at 8 years old and they are expected to kill. So what happens when all these kiddies are trained to kill and guess what? The wars over nothing to fight… A culture based on being the strongest military might no longer needs a military.
But I like your attitude on the positives but I just can’t see it frankly… Because wars are easy, peace is the hard part kinda thing especially when you’re trained to break necks for a living(I guess).
And before they were under the flame legions influence they were fighting against humanity who took their homelands from them >.>, which I think is pretty justified.
But that is a very long time ago and recent events should be enough to cement at least some sort of bond between the Charr and Humanity. There are still more dragons to kill (and we know that there is at least 1 year per dragon + 5 dragons left = 5 more years of the Charr and Humanity fighting together). Then there are the ghosts of ascalon to deal with etc. So I don’t think we have anything to worry about, a point where there is no threat holding the Charr’s attention is a long ways off.
I would simply chalk it up to Anet putting people who aren’t used to being in front of the camera in front of the camera.
Looking back at previous video’s we’ve gotten from Arenanet I would hazard a guess that a fair few of the employees have had media training, and even if not there is obviously a lot of planning that goes into most of their streams.
The recent lore stream is a really good example, yes things could be slightly stilted or awkward at points, but all three of the Anet employees who participated did so in a professional manner and you have to admire them for that.
This stream just felt odd from the get go. At first I thought they were just trying to be light spirited about it, but it just felt very unplanned (which is odd considering the detailed graphic thingy).
Of course I didn’t watch the whole thing, so I’m just going off the few bits that I did watch, but it was pretty hard to sit through.
I’m not coming from the viewpoint of any human within the game. I’m looking at the situation from an external common sense point of view. In no way could Jennah be held responsible for Scarlets actions. Scarlet is the only one who can be held responsible.
The citizens of Divinity’s Reach are most likely extremely aware that the entire thing was caused by Scarlet, what with their city being invaded. The watchknights that ended up killing people hardly even resembled Jennah’s creations, it is pretty obvious that people are not going to associate the clockwork terror’s with Jennah…
If you want to suggest that there may be people in Tyria who will wrongly hold her accountable for the events then go ahead, I won’t argue that Tyria will have it’s fair share of idiots – but that is not what you were initially arguing.
Please don’t bring Germany and Hitler into this, there is a lot of complex stuff surrounding that… His election into power was not a case of people being illogical, there is so much more involved and you would have to look at ALL the facts (e.g. people who opposed him being murdered tortured etc, as well as what the kitten party supposedly offered germany vs. what they ACTUALLY offered germany). Real life history is a lot more complex and I don’t think Germans would appreciate their history being trivialized in comparison to a video game.

Ok I have to admit after flicking through that livestream it was rather atrocious.
They all seemed drunk O_o.
yeah, screw your barely-reskinned wurm and giant booty stiletto robot
i want kiwi dessert quaggan romance
Kiwi FRUIT. Kiwi FRUIT
Kiwi’s are adorable flightless birds. Kiwi fruit is a fruit, and yes it absolutely does need the word fruit on the end.
Kiwi = flightless bird (or as a nickname for New Zealander’s).
The fruit resembles the bird, hence fruit.
Wow, all the on topics. Yay.
There’s no need to flat out insult them either, by the way it goes against the forum code of conduct.
Chips, you are flat out wrong.
A person cannot be held at fault for the actions of another.
Queen Jennah is not to blame for Scarlet stealing the Watchknights any more than she is to blame for Scarlets actions throughout the storyline. I’m stating a fact here, you may choose to see it otherwise and blame Queen Jennah, but you will be alone in that. The only person I can see thinking in the same way as you is Minister Caudecus, who is evil…
This belongs in the fan generated content area of the forums
That graphics card is going to be the biggest limiter on your performance, but I don’t personally have a rMBP so I can’t comment fully. From what I’ve observed around here people with rMBPs find the game playable, but the FPS is possibly less than desirable.
Yes I meant the infinity coil is located close to where drop are forge was. You have to realise that in GW1 that area was still part of the shiver peak mountains, it’s only with Zhaitans rise and Mount Maelstrom coming up that the landscape has changed. You can see the runs of Droknars close by in the water, I think some quaggas have set up a village there.
Yes only the last expansion had Asura, Asura came from underground and as such had no native land. The only place we encountered their architecture was in rats sum. Almost ALL of the areas we can explore in GW2 are areas that were exploitable in GW1, so we know that there were no Asuran structures anywhere other than Rata Sum. Which means any Asuran a Structures ground in GW2 have to have been built in the last 250 years.
Regarding the ship designs in Orr being the same – don’t place too much credence on that. It’s a game and they have to limit the amount of models in game in order to save space, which means that objects like ships tend to all reuse the same model. What we see in game is more like a representation of what is there, rather than absolutely what it should look like (which can make things complicated).
I’m on a tablet at the moment which makes the stone types a little difficult to check out. But I will have a look later today. I think its worth pointing out that Rata Sum was built on huge ruins of some unknown civilisation (although we suspect it may actually be Asuran ruins from a time when they lived on the surface but have since forgotten). There were also similar ruins dotted throughout the tarnished coast. The Asura seem to have taken the designs of those ruins as inspiration for all their architecture moving forward from that point. So that would possibly account for the three types of stone? We cannot put a date on the oldest type though, there is nothing anywhere to suggest who built the ruins that Rata sum was founded on, nor when.
Thanks Aaron, still haven’t finished the book so I wouldn’t have known that. I would still think that would be a recent trend though, given that around the time of prophecies there was a line of succession, which would get very complicated if the throne didn’t go to the firstborn.
I’m sorry but when you refer to the inclusion of diversity being about people being able to fantasise that is how you’re going to come across to people. It’s highly insulting when someone insinuates that gay relationships and strong women are just objects to fulfil peoples fantasies.
lolwhat. Did you miss the part where like every single player is running beserker?
I’m pretty sure that once Scarlet has been defeated we will see the Watchknights used for the original purpose – the protection of Divinity’s Reach.
There is a higher chance of them being reported by multiple players if they use /m or /s.
By whispering I imagine they have a higher success rate and face less reports. Also I guess it would stretch the reports out in time which would make it look less suspicious.
Best thing you can do – the second you see a gold seller in ANY chat, right click their name and select Report from the drop down. To be honest I’ve only ever been whispered by a gold seller once, and I very rarely see them in map chat (even in LA), so I am wondering if there are specific servers that are targeted?
Dark you’re stepping into very dangerous territory. To a lot of people being gay or being a woman is just part of everyday life. The only reason it stands out to you, is presumably because you’re a straight male. What you see as things that are being included when they don’t need to be, is actually just a game finally starting to better represent what society is actually like.
Or would you rather that everyone played a male character and that women NPC’s were silent and everyone was repressed?
Because having a singular server for Oceanic players would screw up how WvW works.
Also as someone who plays in New Zealand, I have never ever had a single latency issue.
Wanze – that’s kind of a differen’t issue. Those “markets” consist of separate markets to Western gamers, all of which require localisation etc. Oceanic countries are western countries, all of whom are already playing on the US servers and speak English as a first language.
What about Livia was untrustworthy O_o. She joined the shining blade to protect people, she’s pretty good… I don’t think anything she has ever done has been morally questionable. Yes she took the Sceptre of Orr, but as far as we can tell she quite obviously didn’t destroy the world with it or anything.
^—- Regarding that last little bit. I’d be inclined to say that it was once a patriarchal rule (I think every named ruler in GW1 was a man, and I would be remarkably surprised if every single king had a son as their first child), but with Queen Salma it was changed and it is now either matrilineal or it just goes to the first born child.
I don’t see how Menzies would fit the bill at all.
Also considering the absence of the other, full, gods in the presence of the dragons – I am pretty sure menzies would stay away from Tyria.
Definitely think this should be a thing. It was nice in GW1 being able to view what was going on from the perspective of a party member. Given the restrictions on using Waypoints I think this would be extremely helpful as there are points where you have to wait quite a while before you can be resurrected/WP. Also given the length of time resurrecting takes this would also be handy. The game already has a system to notify you when someone is resurrecting you and your health bar shows up on screen whilst it is happening, so it’s not like you would be caught off guard because you were spectating.
Question 3:
Yes Lord and Lady appear to be titles in their own right, and considering the constant use of [title] followed by [first name], I would say that this is always the system of address. e.g. Prince Rurik, Lady Althea, Queen Jennah, Countess Anise etc.
With Lord and Lady however, I -think- that it is simply the given title of any individual born to a high ranking/titled noble who does not possess another title themselves.
Question 4:
The lands of Kryta are limited and areas such as Queensdale tend to be used as farming land, so it makes sense for most of the Krytan residents to reside within Divinity’s Reach itself. The threat of Bandit’s and Centaurs also make life within the safety of DR’s walls much more appealing. Beetletun of course is an exception and I imagine there are nobles who live there.
Question 5:
I’m not absolutely certain here but it is possible that, given the dev statement, one must be of a noble bloodline in order to sit on the council. Of course descending from a noble bloodline does not itself secure high social status or wealth, so it is possible that this is what Rachel is getting at. (It’s also possible that the dev’s weren’t aware of Rachel’s dialogue in game).
Question 6:
I would imagine it to be somewhat like this. From the Human noble storyline we do observe that nobility seem to circulate within their own sphere, rather than with those of other positions within the social hierarchy. I don’t imagine that they are strictly required not to associate with commoners, but rather that their upbringing and taste for the finer things in life causes them to remain around those in a similar position as themselves.
Question 7:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/King_Doric This page might interest you in regards to this. Initially humanity fell under one rule, rather than the three separate kingdoms of Ascalon, Kryta and Orr that emerged later in humanity’s timeline. He, with the help of the gods, brought an end to wars between humanity and was subsequently crowned king (thus the royal bloodline begins). Both Ascalon and Kryta’s royal bloodlines descend from Doric.
(Ties in to Question 2:)
If we are looking at titles, such as Duke, then we can use Duke Barradin as an example – he was brother to the King of Ascalon who reigned before Adelbern. His daughter was Lady Althea. Hopefully that gives you some idea of how titles are passed down through non-reigning nobles and their descendants.
Question 8:
There are a couple of instances that would suggest that whilst the Human kingdoms may operate under systems of primogeniture it is not necessarily always strict. Adelbern for example, whilst a descendant of Doric, was not next in line for the throne when he ascended to King of Ascalon. He was crowned king by the people of Ascalon because of the part he played in the Guild Wars. The fact that there were royalists who attempted to dethrone him suggests that typically the throne (and presumably this extends to other positions and titles) would belong to the first born son.
When it comes to gender I’m not entirely sure. Queen Salma inherited the Krytan throne despite being both female and despite her mother not being of noble blood. She was of however the only living child of her father and thus she was brought into power during the Krytan civil war.
Bringing us back to Question 1:
Kryta during the period of GW1 provides us with an example in which the nation was not ruled by a royal blood line but instead by the Judges of the White Mantle under a system known as a Krytocracy (which is possible/probably why Kryta was called Kryta).
Hopefully that helps a little? Sorry if I’ve made any errors, anyone who knows better please feel free to correct me.

Would NPC dialogue during personal story missions being too quiet unless you’re standing right next to them also be game design?
^— I wouldn’t bet on an expansion this year, if they opened up Cantha there would be a mass exodus of the playerbase from Tyria to Cantha which would make the empty Tyrian maps even emptier. Which does really present an issue :S
If the Asura had been in servitude to the Mursaat then the dwarves would most likely have had at least SOME idea what Asura were back in GW1.. But they did not.
Same sort of thing with Thaumanova, if there had been a city there previously – we would have known about it. Unless you’re proposing that a city was built and destroyed within the space of 250 years and nobody ever noticed or documented its existence… It definitely did not exist back before or during GW1 – Droknar’s forge the dwarven capital city was very close to that point and we extensively explored that area.
There is now talk about ley lines- from players. Players are not a conclusive source of information. We have like ONE quote from Scarlet to go on regarding their existence and purpose – which is not a whole lot.
As far as we know the Asura gates were invented BY the Asura, so no the Mursaat would not have been using them at some point – Back in GW1 the only Asura gates that you could encounter were underground – the Asura used to live underground. The Mursaat did not…
The Asura aren’t digging out old gates and recalibrating them, all of the gates you find in GW2 are new gates that have been built by the Asura.
You have to remember that at one point Cantha and it’s docks were open, whilst the Asura would not have been able to travel there, human ships going through the harbour would have needed some place to dock and stock up and the placement of the docks would have allowed human sailors to bring shipments from Cantha (where there are no Asura gates).
You WAY overestimate Asura gates. Asura gates have a lot of purposes, from transporting goods to transporting people – to transport large amounts of goods through an Asura gate you would have to reserve it, which means nobody else could pass through for that duration of time – not very effective. We know that Lions Arch is a TRADING PORT and the fact that it is a harbour is rather important – it makes sense for the Asura to have a dock set up along their end of the Tarnished Coast specifically for intermediary trading, restocking of ships etc – it also gives them a platform from which to explore. Asura gates can only take you to other Asura gates, and both gates have to be attuned to one another – for Asura to explore outwards they need some other form of transport – hence ships. (Not to mention it provides them with a possible source of fishing)
So we are now insulting the fact that the game has strong female characters? I for one find it really refreshing to be playing in a world where a guy doesn’t have to be the one who figures everything out and saves the day.
Watchknights, killing 10000 humans for every 1 human it protects. Great success!
That’s why Queen Jeenah should abdicate her throne. Her “gift to humanity” failed big time. She cannot run this nation.
She may have better luck as a mesmer fighting for the Pact.
An evil psycho maniac stealing your creation doesn’t make YOU a bad ruler… You seem to be implying that had someone else been ruling then they would have been able to stop Scarlet, but that isn’t likely to be the case.
Her gift to humanity did not fail, she has created a really effective protector, it’s just unfortunately been hijacked – but that doesn’t mean that once Scarlet has been dealt with the Watchknights can’t be put to their planned use.
And in fact her actions and the actions of those she keeps around her in RESPONSE to Scarlets actions prove that she is a more than capable leader.
And not everybody turns Lord Faren down, from my memories of the Human Noble storyline he actually has a decentish success rate with women.
Not sure where you’re getting that. Like most males in the game he is frequently bat down by women. The entirety of the Kasmeer /Faren dialog was her mocking his idiocy. Even when the Countess says something good about him it’s a mocking tone.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/A_Society_Function
It’s during that story mission – none of the side dialogue is on the wiki page though, just the key dialogue… Pretty sure there are other bits, but once again they aren’t on the wiki – it seems like a lot of non central dialogue isn’t there >.>
Of course it could just be me remembering wrong, memory is not flawless.
It might possibly be the Mursaat.
Weren’t the last of the Musaat hunted down in the after events in GW1? Margonites might be more likely, and there is a lot of fun stuff that could involve them. But with the Scarlet stuff going on my money is on a Lieutenant of Mordremoth.
Margonites are not likely at all… They were minions of Abaddon who were brought into Tyria by Varesh Ossa. They’re goneeeeee.
Yes I agree with this….
It is NOT fun listening to a boss announce themselves repeatedly over and over again. A lot of the time these are Group Event bosses as well, so it’s not like you can just go kill them -_-
We already had a pretty good indication of what the tone of the game was going to be before release, and especially if you played GW1 (although it maybe wasn’t quite so jokey, but was certainly silly at times). If you want to play something more mature then go ahead, but saying that a game that people really like should be changed simply because it isn’t what you want is kind of silly. There are a ton of “mature” MMO’s out there, go play one of them.
The steam creatures have a KNOWN origin. They were created by the Asura player character in an alternate dimension by accident.
So nope, no alliance with them sorry.
Did nto read all of this – but I am quiteeee certain we would know if there had once been a city floating on top of the infinity coil. Also it was built AFTER the thaumanova reactor fallout specifically because OF the fallout, so it was built with the express purpose of being what it is, rather than of housing a city.
Cubular Fells I believe is hinted to be much like other rogue hidden Asuran structures – it’s where some crafty Asura tried to hide his treasure – hence the complex puzzle teleportation things.
As to Asura originally being servants to the Mursaat – I don’t see it. The Asura are an extremely intelligent race with remarkable technological and magical capabilities. The Mursaat would have struggled to hold control over them.
In GW1 the Asura Gates drew power from Primordius, NOT ley lines.. As to what powers them now – we don’t fully know. But there is nothing to suggest that ley lines PROVIDE power or energy….
As to the docks at Rata Sum, they make a lot of sense. Asura Gates have a specific size and for the transportation of large amounts of good you would sturggle to procure sole use of an Asura Gate to move them through. Then you have to question HOW those goods are being carried through the Asura Gate and also to WHERE.
It feels forced? Really? Kasmeer left a lot of minor clues here and there, especially with Lord Faren hitting on her in Southsun . . .
Doesn’t everyone turn down Lord Faren?
I wouldn’t!
But no, there were definitely clues early on, even in the interactions between Kasmeer and Ellen Kiel.
And not everybody turns Lord Faren down, from my memories of the Human Noble storyline he actually has a decentish success rate with women – of course that’s probably more because he has money and they are noble women…
I have brought up Malyck and his adventure to find his “Mother Tree” in the Dolyak express which is now locked. I noticed others brought it up as well. Hopefully we get a response on this topic.
I seem to remember a dev responding to a question about Malyck very recently – it might have been Angel. They basically just said that they weren’t ready to reveal the rest of Malyck’s story yet and we would have to wait.
I don’t understand the point of this post O_o.
The game’s content maturity level is in a really good place, not everyone needs senseless violence to enjoy a video game – in fact I would hope that most people don’t.
D:!
Nice Maliel, blow my mind will you.
Lmao, not going to happen. The internet needs to stop scaremongering. This thread shouldn’t even exist…. Do you seriously think that millions of people and companies, all of whom would be negatively affected by this, would sit there and let it happen – no they would not. Make no mistake the amount of companies that would oppose this is enough to stop it from ever happening. People aren’t stupid, wait, maybe a little bit.
I’m sorry what… You want them to tell you every a week in advance. Some of us actually like to experience content rather than read all about it.
If they told you everything that would just ruin it. That’s like someone telling you what your christmas presents are before you open them >.>
I have no idea what mumble is… But I imagine that it’s crashing because your computer can’t handle running both mumble and GW2 at the same time. GW2, especially because it’s a cider port, uses a ton of resources.
He ate the bloodstone (This is a joke)
