2. To list anything on a real world auction you have to pay a listing fee
3. Usually the ways people are making money is by exploiting systems. Exploiting systems is not playing the game…
4. I agree wholeheartedly with this one…

Really.. you’re comparing a completely unrealistic game to real life?
Last time I checked, none of my neighbours were able to transform themselves into a tornado or change gender and skin colour so easily.

I’m comparing the economies because I would love to see you come up with a viable fantasy economy. Game economies either have to be highly restrictive in what they do or they have to function in the same way as the real world economy does – otherwise it doesn’t work. Kthxbye.

People playing RPG’s, fantasy RPG’s in particular, want to feel like the hero. GW2 relegates you to a side character which is actually pretty problematic. You’re a minor member of an order, and then you’re Trahearne’s second in command in the Pact. The character is the one who participates in all of the fights – who defeats everything – who defeats Zhatain (obviously with help) but the game consistently downplays the players actions.

I think players aiding in an uprising against a xenophobic government asian influenced government has too many real world parallels to not be percieved in a really really negative way… Not to mention you end up with the whole white, western saviour thing – yes I realise that Tyria is comprised of all skin colours and races, but in the wider spectrum of things Tyria = the Western world, Cantha = East Asia, Elona = Africa. I don’t know, maybe I’m being too pessimistic, but people seem to take offence from things very easily >.>

The contents of the gift are not soulbound just the physical gift itself, so just open it on your ranger and then put the things in the bank to send them to the other character – I’ve done this to use the levelling up thingies on characters that weren’t already past 20.

Double checked the wiki to make sure, and yup it’s just the gift box itself that is soul bound – the birthday booster, mini and level thingy are all account bound. So enjoy!

Hopefully this information can help someone more knowledgeable than myself, and hopefully it can help the devs out.

I’ve said this in other posts, but I want to reiterate – all issues that people are currently experiencing with tgupdate running on launch and the trading post not loading are related to Mavericks and some issue it is obviously casuing with the client.

I’m still running Mountain Lion and the game starts up normally WITHOUT running tgupdate and both the trading post and gem store load fine.

What does this mean for you? Well obviously this means that if you have access to the disk or install files of a previous version of OSX you should be able to create a second partition and install GW2 through there. I understand that this is by no means an ideal solution but for those who are having serious problems and just want to be able to play this is definitely a valid way to do so.

If that is the road you wish to take until Arenanet is able to fix the current issues with Mavericks then this guide shoudl help you out:
http://osxdaily.com/2013/06/15/dual-boot-os-x-10-9-mavericks-and-os-x-10-8/
It’s for doing the opposite – running Mavericks on a separate partition, but the instructions will work for the reverse, so all you have to do is open Disk Utility, create the second partition (remember you will need enough space for both GW2 and the OS, that means AT LEAST 30-40GB), run the installer files and install to the second parition.

Proof that Gem store and TP work:

I think a large scale war against a human faction is unlikely at this point, it wouldn’t be all that well received by players. That’s part of the reason they went with Alliances and multiple of them for the Scarlet story arc. If players were fighting against a single species foe they would start questioning the relevance/importance of said battle. People already want to know why we aren’t still fighting Dragons xD.

I can definitely see that happening – especially with the Nightmare Court and Krait. The alliance seems really fickle and it also seems like the alliance where she has used them the most. They have little reason to trust one another, and perhaps less reason to trust her.

However I’m not sure if the alliances turning against her is likely to have any impact – she’s been able to elude us thus far and we have a pretty formidable force going after her. It’s not exactly as if she’s a fringe villain xD.

Yep, there are two. I’ve played around with the VideRam setting in both of them before, but was unable to procure a result from it.
There is one particular setting in the config file – MTD3D. By default the value is 4, but when the client was initially released the value was 0, putting it back to 0 did seem to provide a small boost to performance with no loss of visual quality. Mine is back on 4 now, but I can’t remember if I changed it manually or if it’s been overwritten by an update? So you could always try setting that value to 0 again.

Kodan why not you them in the game?

in Suggestions

Actually there are good reasons the Kodan wouldn’t become playable – namely the lack of customisation. They are polar bears, their fur is ALWAYS white. You can’t give them markings because in Kodan culture markings are used for special people within their people… Then there’s the fact that they are quite similar to the Norn and would trivialise the Norn ability to transform into a Bear…

Adelbern was already crazy – or did you miss the part of GW1 where he refused to even talk to the Krytan Ambassador because he dislikes Krytans DESPITE the fact that Ascalon was in ruins and the people needed somewhere to go… Then there’s the whole Titan invasion thing where he says:
King Adelbern: “As long as I have breath in my body, Ascalon will prevail!”
King Adelbern: “We have seen worse times than this and triumphed!”
WHAT has Ascalon faced that was worse than the Titans O_o….. Nothing. He’s quite clearly been deluded from the beginning.

Obsidian I really don’t get your argument. In GW1 the Charr were portrayed in a very limited way yes, but that never meant they were a limited species. We only ever saw things from the side of the humans, for Anet to show the Charr’s background later on was not a betrayal of that, it was simply pointing out that at the time we didn’t have all the information. As to the idea of them being savage warmongering beasts – there is no such thing, we saw how organised they were, we saw the things they were capable of building and the magic they have power over. They obviously were intelligent, it doesn’t matter if you saw it or not.

I just dont see how the charr are based off the mongolians… Is there somewwhere a site or something that shows where all the racesw are based of?

It’s in the Trivia on the wiki – the reasoning is the Charr history is similar to the history of the Mongol’s. Also the Charr leader is called the “Khan-Ur”, which is taking the Mongol title “Khan”. So there are a decent amount of parallels that players have picked up on between the two.

I’m pointing out that the issues only exist for people running the game in Mavericks – which is valuable to know because it means that the issue is easier to isolate, and also means that if people need to they can install an older version of OSX on a separate partition in order to play.

The tgupdate issue was happening the second Mavericks was released, I’ve been monitoring the forum for a long time so I can say that with absolute certainty. But yes the tower of nightmares update did bring in other issues for people.

None of this was problematic prior and many were running mavs.

The Tgupdate running every time was an issue from the get go with mavericks (or at least there were a couple of people for whom it was). I don’t see how it can NOT be Mavericks. If you look at the post where everyone is posting their specs, every single one of them has Mavericks. NONE of them with issues had ML or lower. I myself have ML still and have never experienced a single issue. So given the information in front of me I have to say that it seems like mavericks is at least part of the issue.

I played GW1 since it’s launch and I love the game. The Story is far superior to GW2’s and you will find important links throughout all three campaigns, but most especially in the expansion EoTN.

There are not many people playing anymore which can make some things a little tough/lonely, but everything is soloable, especially if you play Nightfall first and unlock the heroes.

The most powerful beings?

“Outside the world we know, other dimensions exist, realms beyond what we can see and experience. Civilized humans know that when they die, their souls pass on into the Mists, the realm of the afterlife. Some spirits linger in this world, or find ways to walk back into the realm of flesh…yet there are other creatures who watch them and wait, drawn to the energy of countless souls.
Sometimes souls are not enough. In dimensions alien to the physical world, sentient entities scheme of ways to enter the realm of flesh, dreaming of the havoc they can wreak. Just as ghosts can defy death by returning to the land of the living, demons find ways into our world, where they feast on suffering, despair, and the vital energy of intelligent creatures.
Demons are more than creatures of the Mists—they are made from the Mists themselves, bits of etheric matter that have gained malignant sentience and power. Whether they appear as monstrous humanoids, bestial abominations, or radically inhuman horrors, they share many of the same aspirations: the strong consume or dominate the weak, reveling in their feasts and victimization. As they are not native to the real world, demons hold an abiding hatred of its denizens. They are also ruthlessly intelligent, more than willing to enter into arrangements that allow them to routinely prey on humans and other foolish living creatures.” – Official Nightfall manuscript…

Note particularly the first bit in bold, it’s referring to them being MADE from the Mists, rather than just in the Mists. So I’m pretty sure they’re not necessarily based off things from other dimensions.

Vlad, comparing the visual shape of GW1 creatures with the shapes of demons isn’t really valid – a lot of creatures in the game have similar shapes because they use the same 3D model and skeleton in order to conserve resources. Also just because something looks vaguely similar does not mean it is related.

Regarding the second bit in bold – saying that demons are subservient to gods is a generalization. Yes we have demons that served under Abaddon, but other than that we can’t really say much. Especially since, as you pointed out, Kanaxai does not seem to be linked to a god, and then we have the Oni who may or may not be his followers. It seems as though demons are willing to do anything that allows them to consume souls, it’s not really being subservient when you’re acting only in your own interests. I would imagine they would just as easy betray or abandon any powerful being if it could no longer guarantee them souls to eat.

Here is the problem with Abaddon being dead and, in being so, being “gone for good.” When humans die they go to the mist right? What’s to say that dead gods don’t go to the mist as well? Or are they not granted eternal life like humans are (Similar to Wrath of the Titans movie)?

Well to be fair we don’t know where the gods come from or what their relation to the Mists is, so it would be kind of unfair to judge them against humans. The gods themselves are seemingly not mortal in the same sense that humans/the other races of Tyria are, so it would make sense if upon being destroyed they actually cease to exist.

You could also question it in terms of souls – if it’s a humans soul that returns to the Mist, do Gods have souls? Kormir absorbed his power which was released upon his destruction, so perhaps a gods power is sort of equivalent to a humans soul. Also if you read the dialogue after Kormir absorbs his power she says:
Kormir: “No. His power. His knowledge. But not him. His will is broken. There is a new god of secrets. There is a new day.”
So it’s possible that she absorbed ALL of him, including his mind, but because of our actions and her actions his “will is broken” and so he ceases to exist in the same manner that he did before.
