YES it would be wonderful if there was a native client. But at the end of the day the amount of people who are holding out because of the client not being native would be rather low so the increase in account purchases isn’t likely to cover the cost of completely reconstructing assets to work natively in OpenGL

You just gave me an idea…

Is your idea to purchase hundreds of accounts O_o

Also in response to your ESO comment a few posts up. I don’t see ESO taking a substantial chunk of GW2’s players. It is a very different kind of game, from what I understand in some ways it’s more akin to GW1 than it is to GW2. Even then it’s a sub based game and subscription games are not really thriving at the moment (ignoring WoW because it’s old and has managed to hold onto most of it’s players and can therefore be set to the side). ESO’s launch I imagine won’t be that different to FFXIV’s (although in my opinion FFXIV is by far the superior game) in that a lot of people will try it out for a month or so but only a small fraction will decide to continue paying their subscription. That’s where GW2 really shines because the second those people get bored of their new shiny they will come back to GW2 because they don’t need to pay a sub fee.

Except that Ebonhawke would never stand for that, and Kryta doesn’t have the troops to spare to enforce it.

ALL Ebonhawkers believe themselves Ascalonian, and beholden only to the Ascalonian crown. The Separatists are no more patriotic in that regard than any of their kin; they only object to the Kingdom of Ascalon making peace with its despoilers.

And no logical reason? What about the only homes your family has ever known? What about the generations of your ancestors that have fought and died for it? For people who value home and family, there is no other logical place to live.

^— This.
I live in a country where certain cities are rather prone to devastating earthquakes. A couple of years ago one of our most heavily populated cities was hit by quite a few earthquakes in a short period of time. The damage done to housing and the city itself was catastrophic. But hardly anyone moved away…. People don’t like leaving the place they call home. It doesn’t matter if it’s dangerous, it doesn’t matter if it makes logical sense to leave. That is their home.

Windows 7 has slightly better performance when it comes to gaming than 8 and 64bit will make everything load noticeable faster.

Dustfinger is right.
Almost anything looks black and white if you look at it from one side/perspective – which is exactly what Prophecies did.
In EoTN we got to see it a little bit from the other side as we learnt that hey, the flame legion are kittens and not all Charr think like them.

As for the Mursaat, Stone Summit, Margonites and Abaddon, you actually can look at it from their side and see how it isn’t so straightforward. Yes they’re evil, but that’s only from our perspective. Their actions have justification and any kind of justification is always going to come down to personal morals. There is no objective good and evil, only subjective.

But honestly I think we should putt hat aside because this exact same argument has been had quite a few times in the lore forums…

You won’t be able to get better specs than that because the client is a cider port. 30 is actually ridiculously high for someone running the OSX client.
FPS will be remarkably low in Lions Arch, firstly because it’s the most heavily populated area in the game, and secondly because Wintersday is going on at the moment which means there are more assets, more particle effects and a lot more people there than usual.

Even playing in LA in windows my FPS was extremely low.

I would recommend turning both shadows and shader to low/off while you’re playing in Lions Arch. That should make it playable. (You can bring up the graphics options while LA is loading to make it a little less of a nuisance by pressing F11 on your keyboard (or Fn+F11 depending on your keyboard setup).

You can boot from an OSX formatted USB. But to have windows installed on a USB it has to be either NFTS or FAT, which OSX will not allow you to boot from to my knowledge. This is coming from someone who has had to go through a very lengthy processes to install windows on 3 mac’s (two iMacs and a MBP) without being able to use either the disk drive or USB drive…

Actually the problem is that Windows boots using BIOS whilst OSX uses EFI.
You can’t boot from a USB with windows installed on it through OSX’s EFI setup.
There is a program called rEFIt (or something like that), which will allow you to do it – but you still have to have a mac that is capable of booting from a USB – and only recent macs that ship without a disk drive have this capability.

FlamingFoxx.1305

That’s actually not true. You can boot most any Mac made in the last several years from a USB device. It may not be fast, but it’ll work fine.

HOWEVER you’re not asking about booting a Mac but booting WINDOWS. It can be done, but it likely won’t be fast enough to be usable for GW2. Here’s a link w/ the basics:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/bootusbflash.htm

Since you can’t access the BIOS on a Mac you’ll have to do something like holding down the ‘Option-key’ on startup to select the Windows partition.

Honestly you’d be much better off doing a standard Boot Camp setup.

I meant booting windows off a USB.. In which case my comment was completely correct. Yes it can be done, but not without the installation of third party software which changes the behaviour of the boot systems…

I would love to point out that costume skins were only added to GW1 very late in the games life cycle. Yes holiday events always had new hats, but that was just two hats per holiday which is a lot less difficult than anything GW2 does.

Since you already have a Sylvari and it has a face that you have chosen I don’t see what the problem is, just stick with what you have and let other people buy the new faces if they want them.

That fact that Samuelsson continues the traditions of the Thackerays and Langmar leading the defence of Ebonhawke and is committed to ensuring a major human settlement in Ascalon proves that he IS a Separatist (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ebon_Vanguard) . Since as is well known the Charr have an overwhelming military advantage in Ascalon ever since the the events of Prophecies and years immediately before – there is no other logical reason to maintain and sustain Ebonhawke.

Also the Ebon Vanguard include a number of Ascalonian refugees and ex-prisoners of the Charr (ie Gwen) that were willing and able to fight. These same types of people are now branded as “Separatists” in GW2.

Queen of the Krytans, Jennah would prefer that the people of Ebonhawke all move to Kryta wholesale. This is certainly the opinion of her ministers as per conversations in Divinity’s Reach.

The details of Devona and friends movements are very limited at best outside what was needed for the release of the other GW campaigns. A deliberate act on the part of the writers who needed to solidify the Charr’s “rightful” claim over Ascalon. This is false in my opinion.

More to the point. The Humans of Tyria especially Queen Jennah and her ministers know that the interests of humanity and that of the Orders of Tyria do not match in the long term. Humanity needs to recover as much of Ascalon as possible to regain at least some of their former status. To limit themselves to Kryta is not in their best interest.

The Ascalonians in Ebonhawke are not Separatists O_o. SOME of them are separatists and certainly there are separatist hideouts within Ebonhawke, but the population as a whole certainly are not separatists and neither is Wade… The Charr that they are fighting are the Flame Legion who are considered enemies of both Humanity and of the other Charr factions…

The fact that Jennah and her ministers want Ebonhawke’s citizens to be relocated to Kryta doesn’t tell you a lot other than that they want humanity’s strength to be located in one place to ensure the safety and continuation of their population.

Your last two paragraphs are pure opinion and as such I’m really not sure how to respond to them.

The Charr’s claim over Ascalon is certainly debatable, but it was originally THEIR land. It was taken from them by the Humans and they have now acted to take it back. You’re looking at recent atrocities committed against humanity by the Charr and deciding that humanity is therefore in the right and it’s their land. But in doing so you’re forgetting that at once point humanity committed these same atrocities against the Charr and drove them from their home land…

You’re basically saying that humanity needs to stand on their own without the aid of the other races because somehow that will make them stronger and ensure they aren’t wiped out – the opposite of that is true…. Humanity needs the other races, Tyria is a changing place and without the other races humanity stands little chance of survival, especially if they make enemies of their allies.

You’re also forgetting that Elona and Cantha are/were (we can’t state anything about the present since we can’t go there and don’t have direct contact) human kingdoms. Kryta is not the last bastion of humanity.

FlamingFoxx.1305

After going through Tyria Devona and Co went to Cantha to help out against Shiro and were once again present during the events of Nightfall. So they certainly didn’t carry the sword all the way back to Ascalon straight away or anything – and there is nothing to indicate they were the ones who retrieved Sohothin.

There is also nothing to indicate that they would swear any kind of loyalty to Adelbern… If they returned the sword to him it was out of respect for Rurik, but there would have been nothing preventing them from leaving once again. You can’t say they would have felt honour bound to Adelbern because there is nothing to indicate they had that kind of loyalty or respect to him.

Also the presence of Sohothin and Maegdar wouldn’t have prevented the Ascalonian migration to Kryta. Yes the swords are objects of power and yes Adelbern was able to incur the Foefire using Maegdar, but the citizens of Ascalon who left would still have wanted to leave. Two magic swords vs. Charr army, a lot of people would rather not take that chance.

Given that Sohothins last known location at the end of GW1 was Hell’s Precipice and it’s possessor in GW2 is Rytlock we can’t really say with any kind of certainty what happened to it in the time between. Yes Logan thinks he looted it from Ascalon, but he could have just as easily come across it by some other means.

The reason I thought this was fan fiction is that your first paragraph doesn’t really use any fact as basis. You say that Commander Wade doesn’t trust Jennah and doesn’t want to challenge her, but to my knowledge there is nothing in game to suggest that. He does not consider her his queen, but that makes perfect sense, she is the queen of Kryta not of Ascalon. The fact that he names her an “ally” sort of suggests that there is no bad blood between them. He also wouldn’t consider her an enemy. He’s not a separatist, he’s a descendant of the Ascalonian royal line and a member of a failing race.

If this is fan fiction then it belongs here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/fangen
rather than in the lore forum.

Also it was pretty clear that Rurik supported the shifting of Ascalonians to Kryta – he died attempting to ensure their safe passage. Considering Devona and Co. also left Ascalon and headed towards Kryta it’s pretty safe to say that they would have been more in line with Rurik than with Adelbern.

  1. - you’ve already purchased GW2 and given them money
  2. - the potential revenue from a native client is probably not worth the cost of producing said client.

-#2 is the most important thing in regards to this issue.
YES it would be wonderful if there was a native client. But at the end of the day the amount of people who are holding out because of the client not being native would be rather low so the increase in account purchases isn’t likely to cover the cost of completely reconstructing assets to work natively in OpenGL as well as ensuring that the game continues to be equally optimised over both windows and OSX (which gets a lot harder when everything has to be done twice).
In regards to the potential loss of gem purchases, that number is also likely to be relatively low in relation to the cost of producing a native client. What people seem to forget is that producing new software is not just a case of re-allocating resources and throwing a little time and money at the issue. Anet is full of people who know DirectX and producing a native client would most definitely require them to bring in new staff who are proficient in OpenGL. That means new people to pay, which requires pulling the money from some other area of the game.

Best tip ever – install windows 7 64bit via bootcamp and play GW2 through there.

The Largos and Abaddon?

FlamingFoxx.1305

Its not that much of a logical leap. He was worshipped by the sea-faring margonites. His domain was the Crystal Sea (later dried up and became the Crystal Desert). The connection between water and secrets, as i see it, would be that the deep seas and the depths of oceans are mysterious and for the most part for humans of that age, unreachable and full of secrets.

If thats not convincing, the temple of Abaddon is called “Cathedral of Hidden Depths” in the Straits of Devastation. If that doesnt link water, secrets, depths and seas to you, i have nothing more.

There is a difference between a link and a fact though.
I was under the impression that it was called the Cathedral of Hidden Depths because it had sunk long ago – before the sinking of Orr

The Crystal Sea was the domain of the Margonites – not of Abaddon. The God’s lived in Arah and the Crystal Sea was turned into a desert when Abaddon was struck down at the Mouth of Torment.

As to the secrets part I’m pretty sure that is more to do with knowledge, rather than being intricately bound up with the notion of depths. I don’t think there has to be a link between the things the gods hold dominion over. Look at Lyssa for example, she gained water after Abaddon was cast down from the Pantheon and whilst you can connect water with beauty and illusion you are using connotations rather than denotations to do so.

FlamingFoxx.1305

We learnt what happened to Glint in the GW2 novel Edge of Destiny, allusions to it are also made at various points in game.
The Sceptre of Orr possibly comes up in Sea of Sorrows when Livia shows up, but I haven’t managed to read past the first couple of chapters so I can’t say that for certain.

If I remember correctly most if not all of the Forgotten went into the redeemed realm after Kormir’s ascension.

There are plenty of hints towards the Mursaat and the White Mantle throughout the human personal storyline and in Orr, considering we have a dungeon path devoted to the Mursaat.

Saul’s story is given in the GW1 bonus mission pack, I honestly don’t think there’s really any more to his story…

As for Devona, Mhenlo etc. I imagine that Anet would be hesitant about stating anything much about them since they’re kind of like the in game lore stand ins for the player character in GW1.

Honestly there are a lot of easter eggs throughout GW2. They have been careful with stuff like the gods though because they don’t want to make the GW2 storyline too human biased (although I think the amount they’ve restricted it has been detrimental but I can at least understand what they’re trying to do).

(Also you may want to change the title of this topic because direct callouts to Anet or their staff are against the forum code of conduct.)

FlamingFoxx.1305

Looks like we have an abundance of potential links to Abaddon that most likely will never be exploited. Basicly anything that relates to the deep seas and the creatures originating from there can be linked to him, seeing how he was originally the god of the depths, seas, oceans and secrets. That, or the deep sea dragon. I would still love if the story would get into that direction if/when we finally go against Bubbles.

“god of the depths, seas, oceans and secrets. "
Source? He was the god of water and secrets, and I think that at one point it was truth or knowledge rather than secrets. But just because he’s the god of water doesn’t necessarily mean he is the god of depths, seas and oceans.

I’m probably just grasping at straws, but having been doing the personal storyline missions in the Straits of Devastation and also doing the Vizier’s Tower jumping puzzle I was kind of struck by something.

During the Temple of the Forgotten God PS you meet Sayeh al’Rajihd who is going to accompany you on an investigation into the sunken temple of Abaddon. At one point during the conversation she says " I live according to the dictates of the Tethyos Compact, with honor and without mercy".
- When I did the Vizier’s Tower JP up the top there is a mural of Abaddon and of course the inscription is “act with magic, act within reason, act without mercy”.
Like I said I’m probably just grasping at straws, but it seems possible that there is some kind of link between the largos and Abaddon.

I think it’s important to note that I’m not trying to say Abaddon is not dead or anything silly of the sort – more that it could point to the possibility of the largos having been followers of Abaddon at some point? In the following PS Sayeh does say “There are mysteries within that normally would appeal to me, but pursuing them has never had a clear benefit… until now.”, but of course that isn’t very conclusive and there could be any number of reasons for her to have an interest.

You are posting in a forum, the point of a forum is for people to be able to post responses and converse about things – nobody is “stealing” your threads…

This is the lore forum and as such what goes inside it pertains to the canon lore of the actual game itself, or to the speculation of unconfirmed or unknown aspects of the lore. In the case of the unknown people in the forum will discuss and point out what works and what doesn’t with anyones theory, this includes pointing out where someone has gone wrong or misunderstood the actual in game lore.

What you perceive as attacks on your personal opinion is actually people pointing out facts that are in game.

All anyone has ever done in response to your topic is point out the ACTUAL in game lore to show where your assertions and speculations are incorrect.

If you want to post fan-fic then post it in the appropriate forum section. If you don’t want people to respond to your ideas then the forum is not the right place for you.

I am interesting in the Mac client developments

There is quite a few possibilities.

Anet spread their development resources thin and support both direct x and opengl render

Drop support for Mac OS X and direct x 9. GW2 can finally move to direct X 11

Maintain different version of the engine with direct 9 and 11. Basically, support for direct x 9 get worse and the mac client degrades

Move everything to Opengl. Window client might experience a small boost in performance but it not easy. Mac OS X instantly get 2x boost in performance.

I am mumbling all the possibilities the Mac OS client future

Alternatively, and most likely, everything stays as is…
The chance of a windows game development company moving from directX to OpenGL is next to none. I imagine the work to move from directX 9 ti 11 is also worth less than the effort it would take.
There game works as is and more people don’t experience issues so things are unlikely to change. They also wouldn’t make large changes to the windows side in order to accommodate the OSX users because the OSX users represent a tiny minority of the player base.

You have misunderstood the tech specs and therefore provided a very misleading statement.

It’s the graphics card that has 2GB of RAM. The laptop itself has 16 GB of RAM. So RAM will not at all be a problem here.

That makes me incredible sad to read:(

Don’t be sad. He just misunderstood.

My bad, the actual RAM amount wasn’t listed anywhere so it’s pretty easy to see how someone could mistake one for the other, given that the computers RAM is usually more important/prominent than the video cards.

This shouldn’t be happening obviously.
A few questions – where is the GuildWars2 app? Is it inside the applications folder? Or are you running it from somewhere else.
- Are you running from an administrator account?
- How much RAM does your computer have? (Sorry if that is in the specs you posted but I’m tired and couldn’t see it).

The first thing I would suggest – quit ALL non-default programs and processes. So any programs that are open should be quit and there shouldn’t be any programs running in your menu bar.
Make sure you have tried restarting your computer
Open up Disk Utility, select your hard drive and click “Repair disk permissions” (don’t click verify first as it will take a long time).
Then try running GW2 and see if you still get the error.
If you so can you locate the guildwars2 app, select it (don’t open it) and press ‘command+I’ on your keyboard, this should open up the app info. Look down the bottom at sharing and permissions, your user account should have both read and write privileges.
One other thing to take note of in the app info window, look at the icon, is there a grey bolt/lock icon on top of the GW2 icon (it would be in one of the lower corners).

Let me know if any of that helps :S? Otherwise the best we can hope for is that Ashley see’s this. A quick google search suggests that she has dealt with similar issues previously for people having issues in Windows.

In the year 1426 of the Dynastic Reckoning Empress Verona of Elona (blessed be her name) outlawed the summoning of spirits as being unclean and an abomination of nature and so began the Great Inquisition. Many ritualists were burned at the stake and otherwise persecuted. The few that survived taught their lore to whoever was brave enough to listen and so some of the art of summoning survives to this day.

Ritualists were native to Cantha so any law from Elona would not apply. Also Palawa Joko rules Elona and the royal line has been wiped out….

And I’m not sure that Ritualism is something that can just be taught to random people considering it is a form of magic distinct from the magic that the other professions in GW use. It’s ancestral magic and quite possibly has something to do with the strong importance placed on ancestry in Cantha specifically.

That article consistently refers to it as a Beta, it doesn’t mention anywhere that a final product is guaranteed. A beta does not guarantee a final release, it’s a way of testing a product, and then based on that testing they decide on the viability and on what changes would need to be made for a final launch.

If they were to remove the beta client then yes they should offer refunds, but as long as the beta client exists there is no legal reason for them to do so. Also they could very easily remove the beta tag and leave the client as is and once again there wouldn’t really be any legal grounds for requesting a refund – especially if you’ve been using the product for an extended period of time.

I’m kind of shocked that they are charging so much, even with the November discount, for something that they still class as ‘Beta’. It should be under €10 or free if it’s still in beta in my opinion…

The client is free. The money you paid is for the right to have an ACCOUNT. The price of an account has to be the same across all platforms because if it wasn’t that would be ridiculous. You purchased something knowing that it is in beta for the system you are using, it’s a buyer beware situation. They could turn around and say that they are discontinuing the beta and you would have absolutely no grounds for a refund (although I imagine they would give you one anyway just because they aren’t bad people).

Follow the instructions in this post very carefully. Specifically, look at the part about deleting the Guild Wars 2 folder inside Application Support in your User Library. That is the thing that is most likely to fix your problem.

Combat Depth in PvE: GW > GW2

People go on and on about the lack of skills, but lets be honest in both GW1 and GW2 there is a meta and almost nobody goes outside of the meta builds.
In GW1 nobody would group with you in a dungeon if your build wasn’t part of the meta and we see similar things happening in GW2. So GW2 having fewer skills doesn’t actually have all to much of an impact.

Embarrasing Storyline

Kormir is the one exception.
Personally, I know everyone seemed to love Nightfall, I felt like NF’s story was the weakest >.> Possibly just because it got a bit ridiculous at times and there were very few characters I liked (except Tahlk cause she was awesome).

People are still complaining about RTL?

Get over it.

For the record, Rush is nothing like RTL. Neither is Savage Leap.

Also, Eles have access to superior versions of the three major warrior movement skills via conjured weapons:

  • Savage Leap is inferior to Lightning Leap, as the latter has a shorter cooldown
  • Rush is inferior to Fiery Rush, as the former is buggy as heck
  • Whirlwind Attack is inferior to Fiery Whirl, as the latter has a shorter cooldown, longer evade and a cripple

Yes but the skill cooldown on the ele conjured weapons is pretty massive, as is the individual skill cooldown while it’s conjured. Also us ele’s are squishy as kitten so yeah…

My group got this achievement without even attempting to :S
Just saw the thingy flash up in the bottom and had a look to see what it was.
I’m still not entirely sure I understand how you get the achievement…

they are circular benches ._.

Circular benches for what? Sitting on? Considering the utter lack of seats in Tyria (except for the mass of seats pointed at the stage in the trading post area in Lions Arch -wtkitten-) it would be kind of weird for them to be seats.

Konig.. It’s lions and tigers and bears oh my. Not tigers and lions and bears oh my.
- this is pretty much the only thing of value to be found within this thread.

Avariz, given the way you feel and the fact that nobody seems to be able to understand how exactly you are interpreting things why did you make this thread? If you don’t want to have some ridiculous argument in which misunderstandings go back and forth then learn when not to continue trying to provoke people. This thread was unnecessary and adds nothing to the lore forum.

How many of them are there?
It’s entirely possible that they are there for precisely something like that. It’s a pretty decent idea and it wouldn’t surprise me if they were going to put statues there at some point down the line. It does seem really odd to just have small round stubs sticking out. Unless there are 4 of them and they are compass points, but I think there are more than 4?

[SPOILERS] The Sylvari are not minions

You missed the biggest piece of evidence that the PT isn’t related to an elder dragon : Malyck comes from another Tree; therefore a) the PT cannot be the dragon itself, since the dragons are unique, and b) the other tree lacks a Tablet, and therefore can’t have been “freed”, and yet Malyck opposes the dragons.

Doesn’t he also lack his memory, if so it doesn’t really confirm or deny anything that he opposes the dragons…he has no memory, he isn’t a reliable source of information

Except that the storyline confirms that he wasn’t born of the Pale Tree. So the fact that he has no memory doesn’t really matter.

My point being that his memory is gone, doesn’t mean the rest from his tree oppose dragons because he did.

Except no Sylvari exhibits behaviours anything close to dragon followers, minions or corrupted beings. I don’t get why people are so willing to stretch the in game lore and common sense just to try and make some ridiculous theory fit. There is a lot more that disproves the theory than there is that would support it (which is absolutely nothing).

They are not going to make it so that this whole time we have been playing a race of dragon minions, or creatures produced by dragon minions.. It makes no sense. At all.

IF you really wanted to push it then you could perhaps argue that the Tree could be corrupted in the same manner that Glint once was but, like Glint, has since been purified. But even then this process would have to have occurred when the Tree was a seed and it’s sort of been suggested that the seed was quite possibly stolen by Ronan from Sylvari or the Druids or some other non-dragon corrupted sentient plant form…

The wiki has a list of jumping puzzles and walkthroughs. I honestly wish people would stop shouting dulfy every 50 seconds. The wiki is the most comprehensive guide for pretty much everything -_-, people work kitten it. (which is not to say Dulfy doesn’t work hard, but Dulfy is one person whereas the wiki is a community).

I just want Anet to bring back the Hunger Games-esque map/mode they had in open beta. That was a lot of fun.

MOBA? Sorry, but I can’t be the only one getting tired of the increasing saturation of this genre. Every other game is a MOBA these days – it’s effectively the new Tower Defence.

You know that during the most recent Southsun event there was actually a hunger games mini-game where players started in a circle around a giant cluster of weapons and other items and then had to run around the map killing one another until one person was left. It was glorious (mostly because if you just ran straight towards the jumping puzzle you could collect enough points to stay alive for a long time and for some reason nobody ever tried looking on top of the jumping puzzle (or they couldn’t make it :P).

The Wizard’s tower has been on the map since beta. Claw island has always been on the map provided you had done the “Battle of Claw Island” (or whatever it’s actually called) personal story mission.
