(Note, please read this in a friendly conversational tone… People always read me as very angry/abrasive and it is not what I intend)
You paid for access to an account, not to the right to play the game. So it’s a little complicated I guess, especially since you purchased it with the knowledge that the client is in beta. Beta status does not guarantee a final release, something could go through beta and then simply be discontinued because it doesn’t work out or because they don’t want to manage it. So yeah, it’s definitely complex. The only thing you really own is your account, which you purchased under the knowledge that you would have access to the game (and rightly so and you do), but there is nothing in that which states the product has to be “finished”. Buyer beware.

The second picture is a Nightmare Court Sylvari with two Nightmare hounds.. That could in no way be a profession.
The first picture is a Sylvari interacting (awakening, reviving who knows because it’s concept art…) with an Oakheart.

Considering Sylvari have two racial skills, one which summons an Oakheart and one which summons a Fern hound, there isn’t really the possibility for a new profession to be created out of this.

Also in the development of a cancelled campaign for GW1 there was a summoner profession in the making (as well as a chronomancer), both ideas were scrapped when the campaign was scrapped.

Any future GW2 profession is likely to be a heavy armour profession, since both light and medium already have 3 and heavy only has 2.

I’d give it a punchers chance. The Dominion of Winds sits on the doorstep of LA and Calderon Forest so you have the starter area covered . They have pretty good lore too . The biggest set back i imagine would be armor and beginning story lines .

Armour actually wouldn’t be that much of a set back. Tengu use the same models as Charr, so all existing armour should theoretically fit on them I think.

I’m not sure if it’s just me but some of the stuff going on in that beautiful trailer didn’t seem to quite match what actually happens in the fractals at the present moment.
(Giant coming out of ground in Swamp fractal, Statues in Underwater fractal having glowing chests) So I am wondering if perhaps the video is subtly indicating that some of the original fractals have been reworked/adapted a little bit?
Really exciting if this is the case, otherwise perhaps next time videos should be a little bit more true to reality – though it was really very very very beautiful.

tablet or no, you would think someone would be at least a little worried about a race exploding from nearly nothing to a major world power in half a generation.

I know I would be extremely worried about a population growth curve like that.

Edit: the pale tree already has a standing army, the Wardens.

They protect the Grove and assist people who are lost and are trying to find crafting stations. That hardly screams massive disciplined army or destruction.
Don’t try and bring human world politics into a fantasy world… Everyone in Tyria has a whole lot more to worry about than a race of plant people, who are assisting them A LOT in their goals, for example those giant dragons that are seeking to destroy the world etc.

Interestingly I am annoyed by this for more than one year. I didn’t consider posting about this until today, but I’m fed with this. Especially because the camera zooms, and I need to re-adjust the camera when I’m revived. It is really disturbing while fighting the new Tequatl since it requires to stay focused (on the fight) and a wide field of view is mandatory to be efficient.

So please allow us to remove this unpleasant effect, at least this zoom.

Feel free to send silver or gold to someone. The ability to put coins into mail is a in game feature, so obviously you are allowed to use it. If they didn’t want you doing it then they wouldn’t give you the ability to do it.

Just make sure that you aren’t expecting something from the person in return – if you want to sell or buy an item then use the trading post. But if you are just wanting to send gold to fellow role-players or friends then that is fine.

The Activity Monitor in Mavericks doesn’t work the same as in previous versions of OSX because Mavericks is designed to constantly be using your CPU, GPU and RAM in the most effective way possible – in 10.8 if you aren’t doing a lot you would just have free RAM, in 10.9 the computer takes that free RAM and uses it for other things until you need it. So those numbers you are seeing in Activity Monitor aren’t really indicative of a whole lot.

You will see performance drops with updates like this because they bring a lot of people into the game at once. That being said I am pretty certain that a lot of the optimisation that was done previously has been undone with the last few updates, so yes there has been a bit of a performance drop.

If you really want more FPS, install Windows via Bootcamp.

Genuinely curious what the instances of it entering the Mists are? Since I was pretty sure the Dragons had no power in or over the mists? I can’t remember any points where their corruption enters the mists, but if you can then please let me know? Also with the Dream the only instance I can think of is the plant dragon in the initial Sylvari instance? Which I’m not so sure whether it is direct corruption entering the Dream or simply a representation of it.

Also the Dragons can animate the inanimate yes, but I wasn’t saying that they COULDNT corrupt Sylvari, only that they don’t know how to yet because they haven’t encountered them before. And saying that they can corrupt plants is not the same thing because the Sylvari aren’t exactly plants, they are a lot more than that.

As far I I know Gw2 has the lowest fee to reset build. Some mmos would require you to use only real money to do it…

The thing is a lot of people came from GW1 where we could reset from within any outpost and change our builds completely (skills and attribute points) without it costing anything.

Of course a lot of these people probably don’t release that in the initial release of GW1 you couldn’t reset your attributes whenever you want, but the point was that they realised it needed to be added in. It’s sort of the same in GW2.

You can SAY “play your way”, but when players don’t have any real way of testing builds out in the game environment it can be pretty difficult. (heart of the mists absolutely does not count)

The best theory that seems to be about is that the Pale tree is part of a group of champions of Mordremoth (the jungle dragon) that were cleansed by the Forgotten and then stored in a cave. Ventari’s tablet is not what cleansed the Pale Tree but simply something she decided to take to heart because she saw what nice people Ventari and Ronan were when she was growing.

The nightmare court are analogous to the Sons of Svanir. A cult which turns away from the traditions of their society in favor of worshiping a dragon.

And the MASSIVE flaw with that theory is that the Nightmare Court haven’t turned away from anything. They are AGAINST the Ventari Tablet, not the Pale Tree. They technically love the pale tree as all Sylvari do, but they believe she, and by extension the dream, has been corrupted by the influence of Ventari’s tablet.

Personally I’m more inclined to believe that the Sylvari aren’t corruptable because the dragons have never had to deal with anything like them before. All of the other races are flesh and blood creatures, similar to what the Dragons came across in their last awakening, the Sylvari are not made of flesh and blood and they have a link to the Dream, which is quite possibly part of the mists, so perhaps it is that which keeps them free from corruption – they don’t exist solely in their own bodies but also in the dream.

Arivzal, you must be mistaken.
The high resolution textures aren’t available on the mac client because it is a port of the 32 bit version of GW2. The 32 bit version does not allow high resolution textures, neither on windows nor OSX.

If you want to use the high res textures you will need to install a 64 bit version of windows via bootcamp.

No they wont ever be enabled for OSX because as far as I know cider only allows programs to run in 32 bit, so it is outside of the limitations of the software.

in Sylvari

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

I don’t think the Pale Tree is a dragon champion, but I do believe it’s linked to a champion.

Ventari planted a seed Ronan had found in a cave, surrounded by powerful plant creatures (“ancestors” of our current sylvari?). Those creatures could have been dragon minions. But, our current Pale Tree wasn’t grown normally. It was planted by Ventari, who was a peace loving creature. He “infused” his morals into the seedling, which, in turn, incorporated it into its dream.

There might still be “dragon minion sylvari” out there, in the Jungle, grown by other Pale Trees who were not taken from the influence of the dragon.

The cave was somewhere in or close to the Maguuma JUNGLE. We have been to the Maguuma Jungle in GW1, it was an area that was notorious for having strong and vicious plant life, and there were a LOT of plant enemies in GW1 that seem to have not made their way into GW2. It is actually entirely possible that the creatures protecting the seed Ronan took were Sylvari, exactly the same as ours, who were protecting the seeds of their tree.

It’s worth pointing out that the Maguuma Jungle is now the Maguuma Wastes…

I honestly don’t get why people think there is any credence to theories that link the Pale Tree and the ‘jungle’ dragon. It would make for the worst and most illogical storyline ever. You can’t place part of the player base in a race that is actually being controlled by the evil that you are meant to destroy. Not to mention the fact that the fight against Zhaitan was VERY Sylvari oriented and the remaining fights are more likely to focus a little more on the other races. A lot of players already feel like the game privileges Sylvari too much.

FlamingFoxx.1305

Every race of Tyria is corruptible by the Dragons, save the sylvari. That makes them quite a big threat to the Dragons – unless one of them found a way to corrupt them.

The sylvari are physically immune to Dragon corruption from the other Dragons, but what if the last one thought outside the box? Instead of corrupting their bodies, it corrupted their hearts and minds. This asymmetrical approach would find the weakness of the otherwise impervious sylvari and be the Dragons’ solution to the “sylvari problem.”

This would be brilliant if it came to pass, but given the current villain of the story (which many of us are just waiting to “Die! Die! Die!”), I expect to be disappointed. :\

The Dragons already have the ability to corrupt minds, hence why in Destiny’s Edge the novel the Asura have to create a head thingy to try and stop Kralk getting into their minds.

I would recommend scrapping the ‘pale tree is a champion of the jungle dragon’ theory because it’s ridiculous

As to the bit you mention at the beginning, the dragons have a cycle of awakening and I’m pretty sure that the dates were calculable, so it’s not like they awakened because magic was out of balance in the world.

Personally I found I don’t care for alliances, at least not the ones from GW1.

In GW1 a less than savory person would wait till there was no officer in guild then proceed to troll the entire alliance, with nobody being in a position to do anything, as one example.

They need better tools to moderate an alliance, if it’s to happen.

Sorry that you ended up in such an unfortunate alliance/guild then :S
I never experienced any problems in my alliance, the guild leaders all kept in very good contact with one another so if there was someone causing trouble then it would be brought up to a guild leader who would then let the other guild leaders in the alliance know and the troublemaker would be removed. All in all I think it works pretty well and I certainly hope alliances make a return at some point, although I am not sure to what point considering GW2 has specific servers so you are in effect in an alliance with all the members of your server.

The cider wrapper is set up only to run the GW2.exe file, it isn’t capable of extending that to other executable files (unless you had some serious coding know how I guess).

Unfortunately the link Kioshi posted is unlikely to help, you could put the exe in that folder, but the cider wrapper isn’t coded to know what to do with it so it would just ignore its presence. So like Kioshi says, your best option if you want to use the combat mod would be to run the game in bootcamp.

Yes Arenanet is an American company but they are extremely aware of how massive their Europe player base is, hence why during GW2’s development they were continuously going off to European events to promote. Thanksgiving just doesn’t fit.

The Oceanic playerbase isn’t large enough to justify new servers. Think about how WvW works. You need more than 3 servers for it to work and if you spread the oceanic player base across that much it just wouldn’t work…

Also you end up with what happened in GW1 happening. Everyone eventually just shifted over to playing on the US servers because the EU servers were always so empty and the playerbase needed to be close enough together for people to get to play with others.

My country/territory was excluded from contest [Merged]

FlamingFoxx.1305

Anet have never done anything for Au / Oceania in terms of competitions or giveaways ever. The only time a single promotion ran in AU it required an immense amount of cajoling from one of the PC magazines here to get an exclusive minipet in GW1. Other than that…

One reason for that might be the very specific rules AU/Oceania has for contests – such as disallowing any sort of advertisement for (specific) contests which do not take place in AU/Oceania (that is, are not based there and do not execute the drawing of prices there).

New Zealand has no such law though and I’ve come across a ton of notable companies including NZ in contests (e.g. The Book Depository who certainly have no physical or legal presence in NZ). So I could understand if that was why Australia is excluded, because I know they do have pretty strict laws around this kind of thing, but the whole of oceania?
