The only problem is that these would become tooo annoying.
Morning Sun for example is one that is likely to come up FREQUENTLY and with your proposition Elementalists would benefit from it heavily.

These kind of effects work in really specific situations where they apply equally to everyone – e.g. the Fractals.

The only place I can recall encountering these in GW1 were dungeons/elite dungeons like The Deep and Urgoz’s Warren.

I have to laugh at the argument that mounts are fun.
They are LITERALLY just a more visual version of a speed buff. You wouldn’t say “speed buffs are fun!”, and yet your character model sitting on another creature is somehow fun despite it simply being a cosmetic difference to your character running.
Screen clutter relates to how much they BLOCK on screen not how much literal screen place they take up. I play on a 1680×1050 monitor which, whilst not massive, is decent sized and I know how to use the zoom button – but that doesn’t stop people in mounts blocking vision of enemies, NPC’s, interactive items, lootable corpses, party members etc.

One of the big issues with this is that the PS4 requires you to pay a subscription fee to play online content (or at least this is my understanding of it from the most recent information, I am quite happy to be wrong if I am!).
But if that is the case – there is no way a B2P company would be happy having their customers paying a fee to play their game that they aren’t getting any of.

not all games require Sub to play online. namely, Planetside 2 is F2P and doesnt have a sub on PS4.

I’m not saying the games do – I’m saying the PS4 does. To play games online using a PS4 you have to pay the Playstation Plus subscription. That means you are effectively paying to be able to play the game, the issue comes from the fact that the game developer isn’t getting that money, sony is.

-snip-

A trinity doesn’t fix that though – a zerg is a zerg, it doesn’t matter if there are tanks and healers because there are just too many players for roles to be meaningful, so the lack of roles in that situation has absolutely no effect.

People never complained much about GW1 because it was a niche game – those of us who were playing it were playing because we liked the way it was. GW2 is a lot more commercial and as such it has drawn in the typical MMO crowd who all have assumptions of how the game should be based on what they are used to. That is what I take issue with, you’re trying to say that because the masses are used to a trinity the game should have one because it is inconceivable that people could actually be enjoying the lack of one… Which is ridiculous. You have to remember that the forum accounts for a rather small percentage of the player population. The majority of players are in game playing and not caring about the lack of a trinity. The numerous posts on the forums represent a vocal minority that looks meaningful in the context of the forums – which is already a minority of the player base.

Yes, I was simply pointing out that there is no separate category of “mole people” in the GW universe as was suggested by your statement that mole people were the ancestors to Dredge…
I recall stating that the use of the term mole people was only used to draw attention to the real world association, so I am not “fraudulent” in anything thanks…

Ahh, then you should check how often there are disconnects (your ISP should be able to tell you this), and also check if they have QoS restrictions in place (e.g. if they restrict P2P traffic). It would seem odd to me if it were an issue caused by the client itself.

Mounts are a no-no. You have fast travel, you can waypoint all over the map if you need to get somewhere and if you want to run every single class has access to a 25% speed buff. Mounts are really unnecessary and they just become screen clutter.

Says you.
Is that a continuous 25% speed buff?
I think my Mesmer is lacking in that area of the continuous variety.
I can name ten other things in game that are really unnecessary, basically screen clutter, yet I don’t see you harping on those items.

But why on earth would you need a continuous speed buff… If we had access to continuous speed buffs then that speed would simply be thought of as the default speed and there would be no point in the notion of a buff…

Although of course elementalists DO have access to a continuous speed buff, and a lot of other classes can get close to continuous as well through the combination of traits and utility skills.

But the point is, Waypoints and the relatively small size of the map remove any need to be able to constantly move quickly. Mounts are EXTREMELY annoying – think about trying to talk to NPC’s when there are 5+ other people around that NPC all on mounts. It is difficult enough trying to see over a Norn, if you chuck mounts in the mix it gets very difficult to see or target anything.

In games like Tera, Aion or WoW yes mounts make a certain amount of sense because fast travel options are limited and the maps are rather desolate – but GW2 fixes both of these problems so they aren’t needed.

I honestly can’t think of anything else in game that is unnecessary screen clutter, unless you’re going to say trees or amour – which would be ridiculous.

Dev’s have already stated that they don’t want to implement Mounts and the vast majority of the player base is against it.

guild wars 2 is fine without trinity.

play the game how you want to play it.

it is working as intended.

CDI posturing, negative forum sentiment since launch, and a general decrease in interest across the interwebs says differently. Might be time to wake up to the world outside of your concrete box.

Search Guild Wars 2 on Google Trends.

Mass interest does not a good game make. A LOT of people like WoW, but a lot of people also couldn’t stand it and played GW1 instead. Just because you have an idea of how the game should be doesn’t mean that you’re right. And just people people are leaving the game doesn’t mean they’re right. If the purpose of the game is to appease players then go ahead, make it just like every other standardized MMO, but if the point is to challenge convention and present a viable alternative – well, I think GW2 has managed that quite well and I am happy with the lack of trinity…

Personally I think you’d struggle in fractals – I run Staff and my traits are 0/0/30/20/20 (which I realise looks really odd to a lot of people).

Your build is glass and fractals will break you >.>

BUT! There is absolutely NO reason for you to not give this build a go. The build I run is unconventional and certainly not meta, but I really really enjoy running it. My point is that meta builds are something for the masses – they don’t automatically make any non-meta build unusable or illogical. So give the build you’re suggesting a try, you will very quickly figure out if it works for you or not and if not then you can tweak it until it’s just right.

You’re all basically saying the same thing I said earlier. I mean they added a “Rewards Unlock” for achievements, these things should go in there. They should do the same thing for purchases.

They added a Rewards Unlock for Achievement BOXES – as in the things you get to open every 500 achievement points. Nothing except the Zenith Weapons and the two new Armour (half) sets goes in there.

I do agree that in the future rewards we earn through a meta or an event should be unlockable because it would be nice to not have to store them until such a time that I want to use it or put it on an alt – but the information on how it works currently is there… The item itself is account bound, so you can use it on an alt instead of the character who earned it if you wanted.

That isn’t saying they were called the mole people.
To rephrase that sentence it’s sort of like saying ‘Once upon a time, the race of mole people who are called the Dredge, etc.’
Whoever wrote that article on the wiki is using “mole people” to identify their appearance and make it more obvious to readers what exactly they are talking about. It should really say “the mole-LIKE race known as the dredge”, because that is what it means – it’s giving you a real world comparison.
It’s also really important to keep in mind that the wiki is player managed, so anything that doesn’t appear in quotation marks and isn’t directly referenced can’t really be used as fact (think of it like academic writing).

When I say ‘called the mole people’ I was in fact para phrasing Konig Des Todes.2086. I myself did not say ‘called the mole people’. What I actually said was “…the mole people were enslaved by the Stone Summit Dwarves from GW1. The mole people are the direct ancestors of the Dredge.”.

You see I used lower case which make what I said as in adjective form which is to say descriptive.

Yes but the problem is that there is no such thing as the “mole people” – there is only the Dredge, the ancestors of the Dredge are more Dredge. If there is something further back in their evolutionary chain then we don’t know what it was.

In GW1 the stone summit enslaved the Dredge – this is plainly observable if you go into the Sorrow’s Furnace elite dungeon (the first place the Dredge appeared in GW1). All of the dredge in Sorrow’s Furnace are called dredge. The factions manuscript also refers to them as dredge (I realise now that is where the quote from earlier comes from) – the “mole-people” is, as I said, simply giving a real world identifier to something that is not implicit in the name “Dredge”.

Can I ask where exactly you got the information that tells us “elementals are amongst the most primitive of life forms in Tyria” because I’m quite certain that is false.

Gw1 wiki: “Elementals are creatures associated with one of four elements (earth, water, air or fire) or with ether. Some manifest due to an imbalance in nature or extreme amounts of magic, whereas others are created by other creatures. The main exception to this are Djinn, which are implied to be souls bound to the elements.”

Gw2 wiki: “Elementals are creatures who are composed of various elements. Some are naturally formed over time, seemingly due to magical concentrations, while others can be animated by spellcasters. They can be found throughout Tyria.”

It is worth noting that the GW1 wiki makes reference (not quoted above) to elementals being vulnerable to elementals of the opposite element – so you would have a very difficult time fusing an ice and fire elemental together. Not to mention that this may be entirely outside the realm of possibility for an elemental – they are after all ELEMENTals. By fusing two together they would cease to be of a particular element, and given that they quite possibly responses to natural imbalances it would seem odd if they could be forced to become unnaturally occurring beings..

You cannot equip two IDENTICAL ascended items.
That means you cannot have two Red Rings of Death equipped at the same time – you will have to equip ONE red ring of death and pick a different ascended ring to put in the other slot.

Your only alternative would be to throw one of the rings in the mystic forge and turn it into a ‘Red ring of death (infused)’, then you could equip both the infused and non-infused one. But you cannot have both of them infused and you cannot have both of them uninfused.
Since they are account bound I would suggest giving one of them to a different character and selecting a different ascended rings to equip.

Wow, if there was ever a topic for how lazy and spoiled the current generation of gamers is, this is it.
This game hands you exp for doing everything except blowing your nose. Reaching max level is fast and incredibly easy. You can do so with no effort nor coin spent. Why don’t we just make the max level 10?

Actually I would love that.
In GW1 the max level was 20 – across 3 campaigns and one expansion the level cap was never raised. Having a low level cap actually worked really well because it meant that all of the content was opened up to you. I think GW2 does a really good job of this with downscaling and like you have said it actually doesn’t take long to hit 80, when I hit 80 I was still in a level 40 zone…

Don’t tell me it’s about the hardware.

Prove me wrong and show me this Guild Wars 2 client on a Mac never dropping below 60FPS and I will believe you.

Lmao, but if you loaded up bootcamp you would get almost the exact same FPS <— coming from someone who has had this experience.
GW2 is just really really poorly optimised, it’s not really anything to do with the OSX client. Yeah it runs better on Windows, but not much better.

On my MBP I get around 25-40fps with max settings on both the OSX client and on Windows (64bit Win7). I choose to run the game in bootcamp because it doesn’t run the fans up so much, but the bottom line is that it really doesn’t make that much of a difference…

The only people running GW2 at around 60FPS are people with proper high end gaming machines – which an iMac certainly is not.

Yeah GW2 has a lot more replay-ability and is very alt friendly. The maps don’t take a long time to uncover and if you just want access to all the WP’s then it really doesn’t take long to sprint through a map and unlock them.

GW1 was alt friendly because the game intelligently had a very low level cap, you could hit the cap pretty quickly (as long as you weren’t starting on Prophecies) and that meant you could go do whatever content you wanted, not to mention all the missions were replayable and there was a lot of story – but GW1 is kind of unique so yeah.

The only reason I can think it may not be working is because the GW2 app doesn’t JUST use data from inside the .app to run, it relies on information stored in Application Support to run and it’s possible that it simply doesn’t know how to handle the paths when it’s on an external HD. – Cider (and Wine) sort of spoofs itself into believing that a certain part of your hard drive is the C: drive that it would use on Windows, so yeah maybe that screws something up :S?

Who Owns Guild Wars Lore?

in Lore

Posted by: FlamingFoxx.1305

FlamingFoxx.1305

Personally I must say I don’t find the “change of human gods history” to be that severe, seriously. As was mentioned before, over 200 years passed since GW1. Lots has changed in real religion in the last 250 years as well. Saying some things that are normal today could get you hanged back then.
You have to realize that most (almost all) humans never have witnessed a god for themselves, so doubting some lore the grandfathers grandfather wrote down while supposedly being drunken is rather easy. Not to mention that humans are facing extinction (even though we hardly notice that ingame), and no god helps. Losing faith is probably one of the first things then.
Last but not least, with Infos we have now, nothing states Orrians intentionally withheld information either. To the humans back then it may have seemed the gods made he world for them, and they created magic out of nowhere. Or it was simply written more poetic than it actually was. However it does fit rather well. I’m aware that there are probably a few details off, but those are just details. And as i take it there are still some human priests who believe all of the old lore even. So no the asura are not completely right either. It’s just all linked (Spirits, Gods, Eternal Alchemy, etc).

TL;DR – You can’t compare this to learning one thing in school and next grade you hear it was completely different all along unless you count in 250 years of studies of several – vastly different – science institutes in between those 2 grades.

The problem comes from the fact that in GW1 we had a decent amount of interaction with the avatars of the Gods and we were able to enter some of their realms… We could also observe the God’s effect on the world, there was a lot of “history” that we KNEW as fact, rather than simply possibly correct scribbling… So it’s remarkably different to any real world religion and the changes thus do appear pretty severe.

Considering the amount of time Shiro had been warped by Abaddon and the fact that after killing Togo he became one of Abaddon’s generals (and we then had to kill him again) there’s not really any way for him to be redeemed.

Correlations between the gods and the dragons don’t work.. The Pantheon’s elements are not static, they can change as is needed.

Zhaitan is the dragon of undeath – none of the gods correspond to that at all. Melandru is the god of Nature and Earth, Dwayna of Life and Air, Grenth of Death and Ice – none of these is undeath.
With Kralk and Dwayna – we have never had anything that related Dwayna to lightning (just because lightning is part of elementalists air magic does not mean the two are interchangeable) , and Kralk is the dragon of crystal not of lightning.
Meanwhile Lyssa is not the goddess of water so could not possibly correspond to Bubbles, Abaddon was the God of water and when Kormir took over the Realm of Torment she did not take the water aspect…
Also note that Kormir is the goddess of truth and knowledge, not of secrets so that could not possibly correspond to the 6th dragon.

The Elder dragons do not necessarily predate the gods, their presence on Tyria predates the presence of the gods, but we have absolutely no idea how old the gods are or where they came from.

Consider also that the Realm of Torment is now the redeemed realm and was taken over by Kormir and the Forgotten.

Also I doubt any link between the Nightmare Court and an Elder Dragon – the NC aren’t mindless or evil (only evil from the PC perspective). Their goal relates to removing Ventari’s influence over the Pale Tree, not to taking over the world.

Also Zhaitan is the dragon of UNdeath, not death – and yes I think that is a pretty important distinction. I would be hesitant to call Kralk an “earth” dragon since it is not stated anywhere and Crystal is not = to earth, besides we have the supposed 6th “Jungle” dragon.

I think it is better for u to run the game in win cuz gw2 doesn’t fully support os 10.9 yet

There is nothing to indicate they are running 10.9
There are only a couple of macs that would ship with 10.9 at the moment, iMacs would still be on 10.8 considering when they were last refreshed. And there are a lot of people who have not upgraded to 10.9.

I do run 10.9. I’m getting from 5-32fps.
Only setting that makes a difference is render sampling – I get 60 fps when it chops resolution in half (oh boy it looks ugly).
Windows runs it with steady 60fps with all setting on high + Vsync

I meant the OP…

(Speaking mostly from a PvE perspective, the game is predominately PvE after all) I’m sorry but as an ele I feel like your complaint is a little unfounded. We are the squishiest of the squishies and we go down very very quickly. It’s 3 seconds of invulnerability which doesn’t actually let you go that far, our health continues to go down while we are moving (and we cannot see our health during this process) and it doesn’t meant it easier to rally. We can perhaps stay in downed a little longer, but we can’t really hurt our attacker. So yeah in a group situation it gives us a decent chance to rally if our team mates can kill someone for us, but if someone starts attacking us while we are downed or uses a finisher then we are screwed, vapour form or not…
