The physical land area of Kryta was bigger yes, but over 50% of it was swarming in Orrian undead. There were very few human settlements and it wasn’t just about the engines limitations. Ascalon was a fallen kingdom with just a small number holding out against the Charr who were walking around north of the wall. The only major settlement in Kryta was of course Lions Arch, with minor settlements in the Ascalonian settlement, Riverside Providence, Beetletun and Shaemoor. Don’t forget that the White Mantle, who were Krytans, had to be wiped out or driven out and after fighting the Orrian Undead Kryta had to withstand a full on assault from the Mursaat who even breached the inner city walls. It was in no way a thriving kingdom.
The city of Ascalon was the last bastion of Ascalon (until the founding of Ebonhawke which was populated by those who fled Ascalon and established by the Ebon Vanguard..)
Yes they had to make allowances for the other races, but all in all it’s not that drastic. We were faced with the idea that humanity was failing from the very beginning of GW1. This is something that was continued through into EoTN and it was sort of about the question of humanities place in the changing world.
Considering Cantha’s history, if we ever return there is very little chance of it being presently populated by anything much other than humans – Anet is quite aware of this. As for Elona, humans are a dying breed there as well and as far as we know Palawa Joko and his undead horde have pretty much taken over – this is something that was set in motion by the player character in GW1 when we willingly freed Palawa Joko from his prison in order for him to help us cross the Sulphurous Wastes.

Actually the whole idea of Malyck is that because he has no memory he actually shows what a Sylvari would be like without the influence of the Ventari Tablet – he is mostly like our Sylvari, but a little easier to provoke and maybe more ‘flawed’. Basically it’s meant to show that our Sylvari have certainly been influenced by the Ventari Tablet, but also that the Nightmare Court have also been influenced in that they’ve kind of gone against their own nature in their quest to restore it.
The Pale Tree is not a dragon or a dragon champion…
This would be horrible. You basically want to not have to play the game.
The game is not equal to the end game, it encompasses everything that happens before. They aren’t going to let you bypass all of that really good content just because you are so ridiculously lazy that you can’t fathom taking a couple of days to level a character up to 80 and actually be a part of the game world…
I don’t think that’s how you would go about it thought. Nobody is going to read that and go ‘you know what, I need to recruit these players to my guild’, because you have like 0 chance of actually finding these people. I don’t know, if that is what it is then it’s kind of pathetic.
Nope. Swiftness stacks in duration but not in speed. The highest swiftness speed will apply (the highest possible is 33%). So you would need something that grants 33% swiftness to get max speed, otherwise each application of swiftness is simply increasing the duration, which has a max of 20 seconds I think.
I think the OP means something like Traveler Runes +25% speed and swiftness +33% or mov. Signet +25% stack or not
I’m pretty sure they do not stack, the highest speed buff dominates though, so if you get swiftness it will overwrite the +25% untill is over
Like I said >.> Perhaps my wording wasn’t clear enough.
OP is asking if they can stack using runes and signets etc to reach up to 50% for example.
The answer is that 33% is the highest and you will only get 33% if you have something which grants it. You can’t stack lesser speeds up to 33. Swiftness does however stack in duration, up to a maximum of 20 seconds.
This game is called… Guild Wars……..
yes, they want people to join guilds.
Yes it is called Guild Wars… yet they do not allow guilds war on other guilds.
So your point?
Mine point is the title means nothing.
Not so much.
The title ‘Guild Wars’ refers to the historical guild wars, but it does also draw attention to the heavy emphasis placed on guilds in both guild wars 1 and 2.

There’s the in game mail that some people have gotten (maybe everyone? I didn’t get it though) from Rox talking about new arrivals in Tyria – which certainly doesn’t seem at all relevant to Fractured!. So I am wondering if this has to do with them rather than with scarlet. Also would it be too ridiculous of me to hope that Malyck has finally got his kitten back to his Tree and has brought a whole force of Sylvari to come lend us a hand with things…
10.9 is not officially supported. I would strongly suggest creating another partition on your hard drive and installing an older version of OSX (Mountain Lion would be best) and seeing if you have better luck with that. From what I have heard 10.9 introduces a fair amount of issues.
An even better reason to update the kitten client. A lot of people actually have changed to Mavericks, and if it’s causing issues with their game, they should update it to fix the problems.
I imagine the problems relate to the way Mavericks interacts with Cider – so it’s possibly beyond the GW2 staff to do anything until Cider does something. Mavericks changes the way the system behaves. Anyone who has upgraded to Mavericks has done so with the information that it isn’t supported by GW2 in front of them.
Good lord… So I got this game for Christmas 2012. Wife got it ‘cause we’re Mac people and it had a Mac client. I never got around to playing it past a few hours. I’d like to give it a shot now. Running 10.9 (as the upgrade rate to 10.9 is very high among Apple users since it’s a free upgrade). Mouse goes crazy in one direction. Game is not playable. This is true on a system w/ an Erase & Install of 10.9 w/ no additional installs/data. WHY is this still in beta? It’s been in beta for over a year…

Also, I’m pretty sure the 10.9 adoption rate has been far lower than previous updates (Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion) despite the fact that it is free :P
You missed the biggest piece of evidence that the PT isn’t related to an elder dragon : Malyck comes from another Tree; therefore a) the PT cannot be the dragon itself, since the dragons are unique, and b) the other tree lacks a Tablet, and therefore can’t have been “freed”, and yet Malyck opposes the dragons.
Doesn’t he also lack his memory, if so it doesn’t really confirm or deny anything that he opposes the dragons…he has no memory, he isn’t a reliable source of information
Except that the storyline confirms that he wasn’t born of the Pale Tree. So the fact that he has no memory doesn’t really matter.
“→Make the villain someone we can relate to…the true trick to make us love the villain is to make him/her into someone we can understand, i can imagine scarlet as a freedom fighter fighting against the prison that the dream is…but make her do something ruthless so we can understand her but can’t agree with how she acts.”
There is every possibility for players to feel that way about the Nightmare Court… That’s sort of why the whole dynamic between Faolin and Caithe exists and why before the release of GW2 we got Cadeyrn’s story.
It’s saying that you helping someone else in their personal story is a dream because since it is not part of your personal story there is the possibility for it to contradict it and the only way to circumvent that would be for your experiencing of their personal story to be a dream.
Wait what? Have they reduced the zoom or something :S?
It was pretty clearly stated that to increase the resistance of an infusion you would need an artificer (can’t remember if others can do it) to combine the infusions.
Also you would expect it to behave just like any other upgrade, gem or trinket where it replaces whatever you presently have on.
What if they made something using parallels? like a gateway emulator. would that have lesser performance costs?
the issue seems to be, that the mac client is playable in lowest settings just barely on many macs from years ago. but they dont take advantage of superior cpus and gpus!
Something like parallels would give you far worse performance… It’s also effectively not doing anything that different to Cider.
You’re creating a faux windows environment to run the game in, so yeah it takes up a lot of resources. Parallels (or anything like it) would give you far worse performance.
You’re forgetting that Guild Wars is not solely populated by Americans, sincerely a player from NZ. I’m quite certain most Americans wouldn’t appreciate being lumped into some generalisation that they lack teamwork skills either…
But really, if you want to play single player content go play a single player game. It’s pretty simple.
Magic find? Rarity?
Can you post screen shots of what you mean please? I haven’t had time to play today.
When you consume enough luck thingies to increase your magic find percentage you get a notification (in the same place and style as the achievement notifications).
We sort of had this last wintersday. It’s possible they will have improved on it for this wintersday. But personally… Keep your MOBA out of my MMO…
That’s not a possibility though.
The Kurzick and Luxon factions were dissolved by the Canthan Emperor.
The plague was dealt with and the afflicted were wiped out in ‘Winds of Change’.
I think the idea is that the original reason for scrapping Cantha doesn’t really apply anymore. It’s just a case of if/when they decide to implement it.
I completely understand the desire for solo content.
But MMORPG stands for Massively Multiplay Online Roleplaying Game.
Too much solo content kind of defeats that.
I did absolutely love GW1, it is my favourite game hands down, but it was a completely unique creature and I don’t imagine we will be seeing anything like it again.
Yeah I got pretty excited by the magic find notification. Previously I always had to open the achievements panel up to make sure it was working and so I would know when it went up :P
So Aaron your idea is sort of that Dessa is just reliving her last few moments continually? Like, she’s now stuck/a copy of her is stuck just before the Mistlock Observatory explodes or is consumed by the Mists or whatever?
Not to mention that for being an underground facility, it sure has a lot of sky sights. But fractals are not exact replicas, so I’ll let that pass.
Since when was thaumanova underground? We’ve seen the facility already in Metrica Province. :S
Scarlet Wars 2…..
Well… The logo is red. SHE’S BEEN THERE ALL ALONG!
You would get around 20-30FPS.
I have a non retina MBP with a 650m, 4GB RAM and a 2.2Ghz i7.
With everything set to high it’s 20 FPS, if I change Shader and Shadows to medium then 25FPS and if I change shader and shadows to low then 30FPS (the visual quality drop isn’t all that noticeable).
The part where you might run into trouble is with the 2GB of RAM. GW2 is a resource hog, even more so on OSX.
https://guildwars2.zendesk.com/entries/28147936-Guild-Wars-2-Mac-Edition
This specifies that you need 4GB of RAM to run GW2 on OSX.
So your computer technically isn’t supported at the moment and it may not be able to run GW2.
In all honesty – install Win7 64bit using bootcamp and play GW2 off that. It’s what I do – your laptop is decent enough (like mine mostly) and GW2 just runs much better if you’re willing to boot into windows to play (I get around 45FPS).
Was your character dead during any of the cinematics/dialogue by any chance? Because for some bizarre reason being dead prevents you from hearing any of it.
I agree.
It’s actually nuisance to get to the third fractal and know that you’re still going to be there for a while.
Starting with the longest would give people less of a headache, especially because you would get a better idea of whether or not you were going to be able to manage it with your group.
Hi Bobby.
To even show up in a thread like this, where people are openly hostile to you and your team, man you have guts. For that, I commend you, in that you’re not afraid to read and converse with your most passionate critics, head on.
Thanks for the kind words. It means a lot.
My only disdain with lore in this update, is that discussion of the lore is being stifled because of the Scarlet Hate. There are IMO much more interesting reveals this update that are just utterly buried by the never-ending stream of scarlet vitriol.
True.
Related to your comment, what reveals resonated with you?
I have to agree, the Thaumanova Story especially was really interesting. Ellen’s conversation with Dessa was great (both before and after). I really enjoyed a lot of the small hints about Dessa and it’s really cool to see that she’s quite possibly been in the mists for a while. Also the final boss in that particular fractal was just really interesting and I look forward to being to find out anything about what exactly it is! Yes Scarlet was in the Fractal, but even if she has had some sort of influence on what took place at Thaumanova I think it’s still important to recognise that the advancements and knowledge to be gained from it are purely Asuran (maybe?).
Just a small tip – After the death of Zhaitain we got Dragon Bash.
I think that once Scarlet is dealt with we should get an EVEN BIGGER event than Dragon Bash. Because I am pretty sure everyone wants to take a whack at that pinata..
They’re not late. They said the update will occur on 11/26/2013 in Pacific Standard Time. Right now, more than an hour after this thread began, it’s 11:12 AM in PST. They still have almost 13 more hours before they’re late.
You are most certainly correct in a technical way. However since the majority of previous updates happened on average about … three hours ago, this update is later than anticipated.
:)
Let’s agree on later?
Later than the user base anticipated is not equivalent to LATE though.
Late would imply that a deadline had been set that had subsequently been missed. They never told us a time and therefore, unless they don’t manage to release it until the 27th, they cannot be late…
-snip-
If you look at his forum history it is literally just him posting in all of the numerous mounts threads that pop up in this forum. So I think that tells you something :P
Hardly..
If they were the most dangerous thing in the world then their population would be thriving because they would have defeated the Centaurs and driven the Charr back from Ascalon.
Norn and Charr would probably beat a human in terms of raw strength while Asura certainly have a lot more technological prowess.
Humans are scrappy, that’s what they have going for them. They refuse to be wiped out and have managed to build a sizable city in Divinity’s Reach. But they certainly aren’t the most advanced killers…
I live in NZ and yes it’s also the 27th here. But I KNOW that it’s the 26th in America for quite a while longer…
From my own experience updates usually aren’t for another hour but they have been later in the day. Seriously though, it doesn’t matter what time it drops because the only thing we have actually been told is the DATE.
This sounds like a server side issue rather than client side so I would suggest you submit a support ticket.
I’m sorry what? There are hardly any gold sellers in GW2. It is WAYYYY better than any other MMO I have played (Aion, Tera, WoW).
The only place I ever encounter them is in map chat in Lions Arch, and it is easy enough to REPORT them.
for starters, you could use slightly less offensive language. : )) they might turn an ear. not whining. not complaining. it’s just a personal suggestion. good ideas you have here! so you don’t want your upsetness to drown them out.
HAHAHA!!! There is nothing offensive in what I have said. No foul language, no name calling…nothing…descriptive yes, but not offensive. If anyone should be offended, it is I and the rest of the players that play the game according to their rules and design, and pay real money in THEIR Black Lions Trading Post. I mean for the most part I enjoy the game, but this is one of those things that should be changed.
You know exactly what you’re getting when you purchase an item from the gem store. Just because you want someone else or something more doesn’t mean you have a right to be offended. You get exactly what you paid for so if you want to complain then perhaps reconsider spending your money – which you did not have to do.
Lucien
Hmm, I never actually thought much about keeping the playable race as only human for GW2. I suppose I always thought that there were simply better ways to go about it than what they did here. I agree with a lot of your sentiments, although I will say other playable races were always on the devs mind’s…even as far back as Prophecies. They just didn’t have the resources to implement it back then.
They could have done one simple thing to avoid a ton of this mess:
Don’t replace human history and culture…just ADD to it!
Honestly…Tyria is a huge place. Why they couldn’t utilize all that empty space out there for new races I have no idea. Instead they chose to almost completely dismantle and neuter the existing human civilizations to “make room” for the new guys. It just makes no sense to me.
You don’t need to destroy one race to create 4 others.
They didn’t get rid of any human civilisations though?
During GW1 the only place there were humans left was Kryta (Ignoring Cantha and Elona because these were completely different campaigns/continents).
Ascalon had fallen and was pretty dead at the beginning of GW1. Orr was dead beforehand. Humans never really inhabited the Crystal Desert. Humans certainly didn’t inhabit the Shiverpeaks. Yeah you found humans all over, but not in large quantities.
Jormag is the likely candidate for the next dragon we face. Kralk and Primordius are kind of tied for a close second I guess – which I say because whilst Primordius’s minions have less of a presence in GW2 it’s still more likely for us to go in search of him/open up the Ring of Fire Island chains than to open up the whole of the Crystal Desert/Elona.
Small correction, Primordus is not at the Ring if Fire Islands (as far as we know). All we know is that he is underground, and that his minions pop up all over Tyria. His last known position was at the Central Transfer Chamber in the Northern Shiverpeaks.
I know xD. But I just really want him to be there…. So I refuse to accept any other possibility. I mean, if you were Primordius wouldn’t you be all like ‘YEAH VOLCANIC ISLAND CHAIN’.
You can’t unspend points – but every single time you level up you will get more skill points. Once you hit level 80 you will continue to earn skill points for each level up and it doesn’t take that long to level up each time so you will get up to 50 points in no time.
Also I would suggest taking a look at Ascended Weapons just in case because it would be unfortunate to slough through the creation of an exotic weapon only to have to begin to create an ascended or legendary afterwards. (Exotic weapons are not uncommon in FoTM and aren’t too expensive on the trading post so purchasing rather than crafting one may be a better idea.

With all settings on High it’s at 20 FPS, which I personally I find perfectly playable, putting Shading and Shadows (touching nothing else) to Medium boosts the FPS to 25, and putting them both down to low (once again touching nothing else) puts it at 30, which is really quite decent considering how intensive GW2 is. Also having shader and shadows on low (not off, just low) the game is STILL absolutely gorgeous, so I don’t get what you’re all complaining about. There is barely any visual difference between having those two settings on High vs. having them on low >.>
How? You and I have the exact same computer and I can’t run it on max settings.
I’m honestly not sure what to tell you O_o.
facedesk It feels like you’re either toying with me, or you have highly selective reading.
Proletariate does not mean government of the human people. It means human working class people in a human urban complex. If Moletariate is to equate to Proletaritate which Anet artistic team did intended then the only conclusion is Moletariate means mole working class people in a mole mount/warren complex.
The Moletariate is a play on the world proletariat COMBINED with the fact that the dredge have a communist socialist society.
Bourgeoisie and Proletariat do not function in a communist/socialist society in the same way as they do a capitalist society.
I’m honestly not sure what point you are trying to make anymore because you’re making no sense…
Me: 2010 Mac Pro, 6x 3.33 GHz, Radeon HD 5870.
On max setting: I get 50 fps in my home instance with no other players. 30 fps looking at the Mystic Forge in Lion’s Arch from the bank steps. minimum of 20 fps in WvW in big battles.
when they say GW2 is a system-intensive game, they mean INTENSIVE. very few computers can run it perfectly on the highest settings. Some settings demand more than others, you should play around with them and find which you don’t need. More than a few make almost no visual difference but will cut fps in half – turn those to low.huh… just noticed. iMacs don’t come with Radeon graphics cards. all of them are Nvidia GeForce somethingerother. I know it’s possible to replace the graphics cards in some imacs?
Only the new ones have Nvidia. All older iMacs used Radeon – same with all old Macbook Pro’s (which now have intel cards unless you want to shell out for the top end retina…)
what if the emperor isnt evil and has just lost all his power to the real evil ppl – the ministry of purity, just because usoku is evil doesnt mean the current emperor is
This is very true.
Zhaitan and the DSD have prevented more recent contact to Cantha, so it’s entirely possible that their attitudes have changed.
Then again the current emperor is a very recent descendant of Usoku and so it’s likely they would have been raised with the same ideals. It will be interesting to see where they decide to go with the storyline.
I definitely think Cultural Armour needs a rethink.
It is insanely expensive and not even max stats which means that you’re spending all that money for something purely cosmetic.
So as it stands adding different stat types wouldn’t help at all because the gear would still have it’s base stats too low and the cost too high.
They definitely need to go back and re-examine cultural armour. I think the best option would be to make it purely skins, lower the costs a bit and add in more tiers.
The Moletariate is the dredge government…
The dredge are the dredge, you can identify them as mole-people only in that they look like moles. But they have never been referred to mole people, except in such a way that gives people a real world comparison. They would not call themselves mole people, they call themselves dredge.
What Input from Anet would you like? The answer will be that this is not going to happen, because we need to sell transmutation stones, crystals and splitters via gem store. Get a 2nd account if you like to get a 2nd pair of event skins for your alts.
We’ve been having this discussion all year long and I think we even had this discussion last year, things like that won’t change but thanks for the effort of trying
This topic will be moved to suggestion and that’s the end of it. lol
But a very valid point is – why should someone have to buy a second account when they have purchased the equivalent worth of character slots.
The fact that achievements are account wide rather than character based becomes a massive hindrance in this respect. Players should at the very least be able to earn these rewards on their alts as well as on their mains.
Achievement rewards also function a little differently. As it stands they aren’t a massive seller of transmutation stones because all of them are skins rather than items. So as it stands it’s basically – you can’t have these on your alt for absolutely no reason at all, sure we wouldn’t lose money by making it unlockable but HA -
