There is a small pale tree down there with a thorn vine around it that has scarlet red leaves. Scarlets story has been in writing a long time. They can’t just change it because its been there a while now. The place includes: underground strucures, psychoactive substances, force fields and experiments with a small version of the pale tree thats getting powered by some device. Too many connections to scarlet in my opinion.
That may be so, but unless they actually fully put it in game then we can’t really use it.
It can only be accessed through exploiting skills and map collision points, so it’s not really intended for players to be using it as something concretely based in lore.
Considering that has been in game since launch and is not technically meant to be accessed and as such cannot be considered canon – I wouldn’t think much of it.
The codes were probably intended to be used to gain access to a different part of the puzzle or something – before it got scrapped.
Restart your computer then run the GW2 app.
Once it gets to the point where the launcher never appears open up Activity Monitor (It’s in the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder).
In the Activity Monitor window open either the memory or CPU tab and look for two processes, a Guild Wars 2 (might be titled Guild Wars 2 or GW2) process and a “wineserver” process.
If you see either of those then the application is still doing something even though you cant see it on screen and I would suggest waiting half an hour or so to see if it pops back up.
If neither of those are there then it’s possible that something is causing the app to quit. Let me know how that goes?
There is actually a known issue with some macs (including yours, which is the same as mine except without the high-res screen) where the screen’s colour profiles can get kind of screwy when the graphics card is switched from the Intel card to the AMD one.
(Meaning that there will sometimes be a blue tint when it’s on the AMD card, but if you switch it back to intel then it will go back to normal)
The easiest way to discern if this is the problem – open up System Preferences, then go to the Energy Saver tab and click the box next to “automatic graphics switching”, if you can see a visible change when you tick the box then that’s the problem (try clicking it on and off a couple times if you need to).
I used to have this problem and it did eventually go away by itself (which is odd..)
One thing I can suggest – try doing a PRAM reset. It’s the only thing you haven’t tried that has a chance of helping.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
If you do that make sure you read that page because it tells you what settings might be reset – so there are things you’ll have to go back and change after the PRAM reset (e.g. time zone and screen resolution).
They really need to make it more obvious that these things are in game. It’s wayy to easy to miss this stuff -_-
So how does Issormir fit into all of this?
Issormir is an ice wurm – also I’m not saying that all Wurms would be aligned to the dragon – just that there are some that have been corrupted. Wurms have been around in GW for far too long for them to all be dragon minions. But jungle wurms – not so much.
In GW1 we only had (generalising out of the different species by appearance) frost wurms, regular fleshy wurms, and sand wurms – No Jungle Wurms, despite our ability to explore through the Maguuma Jungle and the Tarnished Coast. So it’s quite possible that Jungle Wurms are corrupted regular Wurms?
Possible, yes, but it’s quite the stretch. Jungle wurms are distributed by biome, not territory, like Tyria’s natural creatures and unlike dragon minions. Furthermore, in most places jungle wurms live in close proximity to other creatures without corrupting them, again like other wurms and unlike dragon minions. The only thing really going for them is that they’re new and that the Nightmare Court uses them, but I don’t see anyone jumping to say spiders or plated behemoths are dragon minions.
Which is why I only think it’s the two giant Wurms that can be tied to a dragon.
But oh well, we will see eventually.
So, about a year ago or more, they said something along the lines “Keep asking and you’ll get it”, a year later, still nothing and I doubt that they’re making an expansions as a background project.
If they were to start making it tomorrow, we would most likely see it only in 2016, so year, thanks Arena Net…
They have officially stated that they are actively working on an expansion at the moment. They just aren’t sure what form they will release it in – aka like a traditional expansion, gem store purchase, free, content released over time etc.

Do you know anyone nearby that plays? In that case you don’t need to download at all, you could get the files on a memory stick or portable harddrive.
Good luck with that…
The game uses a single file which is 18-20GB in size. someone with a mac isn’t going to have an NFTS drive because they can’t write to it – most people with OSX have FAT formatted drives because it’s the one format compatible with both OSX and Windows – but it also has an individual file size limitation of 4GB, so the client wouldnt fit. Which would mean they would need to use an HFS+ formatted drive, which would mean the other person would need to also have a mac in order for them to copy the game onto it.

Yeah you have to be on the same map as your party members…
You can’t join them from a different map, especially not the mists.
I didn’t think one or the other died. I only saw them on my human character in Orr, which made it seem like both made it out alive.
Tegwen dies during the personal story.
I don’t think Djinn are a strong contender at all – a Djinn would have nothing to gain from manipulating Scarlet, nor do I imagine they would have a particular care for the goings on of Tyria.
Yeah I personally didn’t get couple vibes from Carys and Tegwen. Carys is Tegwen’s friend and apprentice, there’s nothing romantic implied.
I think that there needs to be more general armours created with the other races in mind. Every lootable armour available in game is, lets face it, designed with humans in mind. I would love to see the other races get more of a nod than just cultural armour. Asura designs are always cool and it would be great for the other races to have them. And of course we need more plant armours, because Sylvari are the greatest!
I hate you – sincerely a large portion of the player base who would consider 30fps to be “good”.
But seriously, congrats on your nice computer! Enjoy!
How is EoTM different to any other WvW map. You are fighting with people on your server, so if there are going to be language barrier issues then they will be the same language barrier issues that you already face in regular WvW…
No, all servers of a specific color are grouped together. So if your server is green this week, you will be grouped together with all other green servers.
I also wonder how players are going to organize themselves (Teamspeak, commanders, …). But EotM is probably going to be more casual than WvW anyway.
My apologies, did not realise that was how it was working.
Regardless, as others have pointed out it’s not going to be perfect for anyone.
The NA servers are going to run into problems when you get servers with high Oceanic populations grouped together against servers without – because the servers with Oceanic players will be actively fighting at all hours of the day whilst those with only a NA presence will be quieter during NA nighttime.

@aspirine – lots of people don’t understand English… The only places where it is recognised as an official language and is spoken natively by the majority of the population are New Zealand, Australia, the UK, the USA and Canada.
Of course there are other places where it is an official language and there are a ton of countries where English is taught in schools etc – but those are all countries which have their own primary language that isn’t English. So expecting most of the world to speak English is just really ridiculous, because a lot of people are can’t speak it at all, or can only speak it a little bit.

Not sure junundu will be in full force, as the damming of the elon kind of screwed a lot of the desert on that side, they might not be doing so well in a, what I guess would be, a now forested area.
The Desolation was full of Sulphur, I’m not so sure that it would be forest’s now given that the Elon should technically be an Acid river :S
And that is definitely not a Siege Devourer, not even close >.>
Oh yeah, i forgot sulfurous wastes was literally it’s name. good point.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they forgot that though since I think the Movement of the World talks about Elona becoming lush green land? Although the MotW has quite a few errors in it anyway…
The thing about the instance nodes is that it is not worth it to go there.
If I can buy a couple of the mats off the trading post why would I go out of my way and also spend silver on waypoints when that money can be used on the post?
The one big reason is if you want to craft Celestial armour – which I did. Of course it’s not necessary, but it was much more convenient.
Given the zerker meta though, celestial armour is not such a draw for most people.
“These zones will be opened up when we have a reason to go to them – aka dragons.”
I did not buy the game for a specific purpose of killing dragons. In fact the most enjoyable part for me was the first half of the personal story (depending on our choices at creation) and exploring the world itself.
I think I’m not alone with this, and I think your (@ FlamingFoxx.1305) approach is kind of similar, because I see a lot care about the lore behind your words, instead of a “thinking machine” with balance cryouts. So I think you can totally understand when I say exploring, helping people and just discovering stunning looking places gives a level of great joy that makes GW2 worth playing for many of us. In fact I rarely log in now that I’m at 93% world completition and got my “dream looking”. A dragon or any great villain being there isn’t a prerequirement for the world to expand.
Oh I absolutely agree. It’s just that Arenanet seems to be thinking in terms of Dragons being the main goal and adding in smaller plot lines (connected to the dragons) throughout the year – e.g. Scarlet.
I think it’s much better when things don’t entirely revolve around dragons and a lot of my favourite places in GW2 are areas where you don’t see a lot of dragon influence because lets face it – clearing dragon minions to complete a heart gets old pretty quickly.
So I certainly do hope that they aren’t afraid to break out into different kinds of conflict and content. Cantha and Elona are obviously a GREAT way of doing this, since the conflicts in those lands aren’t central to dragons. Elona for example might have Kralkatorrik north in the Crystal Desert, but for the most part I think Palawa Joko having taken over the continent is a little more interesting/pertinent. I think the main issue is that content like that is going to take a long time to develop and draws too much away from the dragons. So we’re more likely to get content that moves into the Northern Shiverpeaks straight into Jormag infested land. But yeah. I will be very interested to see how it all pans out. It should be great watching the game evolve in the years to come – but it will take years and I just hope people are willing to wait it out.

How do you get survival of the fittest out of “Act with magic, act within reason, act without mercy”? That’s Abaddon’s motto if we ever had one, straight from the game.
Abaddon is not a survival of the fittest kind of guy – if any powerful entity is that, it is Jormag.
“Act without mercy” kinda sums it up. After the gift of magic, humans were getting pushed towards extinction. Yet, Abaddon didn’t seem to care. The only thing he cared about was that the gift of magic was allowed to stay, even if that could have possibly led to the death of the human race.
Maybe it was because his Margonites were thriving with the Gift in place, and he simply turned a blind eye towards the other god’s humans? We will never be able to tell without further information on the matter, but his actions, to me at least, still screams of “survival of the fittest” mentality.
Humans couldn’t handle the Gift of Magic, and they were slowly getting killed off by either their enemies or themselves. So, Abaddon acted without mercy, and he simply didn’t care. If they couldn’t handle the Gift that the gods gave them, well tough luck.
It’s entirely possible that at that point in time there were already tensions between Abaddon and the other gods – if so then why should he care? That’s not survival of the fittest, it’s just not caring.
and she’s offering to be her bodyguard because she’s in charge of keeping the place safe, and can’t afford a human noble to end up dead.
And she’s not someone she could just tell to shove off for being a stowaway like Lord Faren, He Who Is Forever Friendzoned.
lesbian friendzoned, the friendzone with no hope. i know a friend that went through that, the poor guy.
I fail to see how that deserves pity O_o.
It won’t.
The downloader gives you a percentage count – but that percantage is based on what has been downloaded that session.
So if you download 50% of the client (works by files not by size) and then close the client. When you open it back up it will start again from 0% – but the percentage is now measuring out of the remaining 50% that you did not download.
So pretty much you can close the client and reopen it the next day without worrying. It won’t redownload what you’ve already downloaded, it just wont tell you that you how much you had already downloaded.
Also the client should come in at around an 18-20GB download. So spreading it over 2 or 3 days should work ok – depending on how much you use per day. (And honestly if you manage to use 12GB a day then you are insane – excluding the client cause it is massive-)
You will get it at some stage.
There is a massive list of things that Anet needs to revisit though, and they can’t do it all at once. So this really is a case of just having to wait until they decide to write them into the story again.
I hope so. I hated my character’s voice in GW1. But I love all the pc voices in GW2 and wish my characters would speak more.
Hey
I liked my character’s voice in Prophecies. It’s mostly as I like Steve Blum though.
Steve Blum did an AMAZING job for the male voice in GW1 I think.
- A one-sided heterosexual crush which is embarrassing to watch between Logan Thackeray and Queen Jenna.
It’s not one-sided, however. Jennah also loves Logan, but the two’s social classes (Logan is commoner), as well as the whole strife with the Ministry and Caudecus prevents Jennah from following her heart.
Jennah says she does, or implies she does at the least . . . but I’m skeptical on the matter and also am in the camp saying Logan is way . . . way . . . way too firmly crushed on the matter to be objective as her protector and champion.
What he needs is a one night stand with Ellen Kiel. Or Eir. Or Rytlock.
I’m pretty sure Ellen swings the other way. In the short story posted that showed Kasmeer’s arrival on Southsun it was sort of implied that she was attracted to Kasmeer. Either that or the writer really likes Kasmeer and let too much of that slip through in Ellen’s analysis of her.
(http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Welcome_to_Paradise) <— Particularly paragraphs 7-10, but there are bits after that. Notably the way that Ellen almost addresses her as “My Lady”, but also the offering to be her personal body guard and the constant noticing of her appearance and demeanour. Or course you could chalk it up to Ellen being a very strong woman who is perhaps a little less “feminine” (I dislike that term though) because of her position as captain of the Lionguard/being raised by Magnus or whatever that story is (haven’t had time to read that because until just now didn’t know it existed….).
But Logan and Rytlock definitely need to work through that tension…..
^— Pretty sure Tobias is right, I do remember seeing some kind of in game reference to it – and it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a bit of information that slipped through the gaps considering the event happened once and everything was on a pretty short time limit – not to mention all the bugs that were cropping up and preventing people from doing certain bits of it.
Monthly achievements are in a good place.
Yes a lot of people complete them quickly, but a lot of people also aren’t completing them at all, or need a lot of time to complete them.
Personally I’ve only done the Monthly 3 or 4 times, it just does’t happen in my natural playing so it’s something I have to actively work towards – and I’m a full time student so like any other students who play or people who work full time, I don’t always have time to sit there and grind through content.
@Stephen, really great catch with the parasites! I think that adds some credibility to the theory.
o.k. so the dwarves went underground to fight minions. Why can’t we go underground as well…is the entrance they used not accessable? did they teleport? plot hole?
The area where the Dwarves went underground to fight Primordius and his minions is further north in the Shiverpeaks – in an area we don’t have access to in GW2 at this time.
The place they entered from has most likely been destroyed, considering Jormag’s rampant activity in the Northern Shiverpeaks.
Every single Dwarf has undergone the rite of the dwarf and is now stone – and as far as we know Ogden is the only one who stayed above the surface.
After undergoing the rite and becoming stone the dwarves have been left with a singular desire to battle Primordius and his minions – which is why you don’t see any others – there is no reason whatsoever for them to come to the surface.
Well, there’s nothing stopping you from staying on your current server after you’ve moved to test things out and see how the player base is?
This post belongs either in the Mesmer subforum or in the profession balance subforum.
Also, the amount of people who constantly cry about how their profession is being nerfed and ruined etc kind of makes these arguments less credible.
-snip-.
Because when you provide people with a villain that is just plain evil and has been fleshed out very little it is remarkably easy for them to just accept them as a villain. There is nothing for them to attempt to dislike or attempt to relate to. There are no motives to question etc. Abaddon is an easy villain, that’s why people like him so much. (Not saying that it’s a good thing or that they should, it’s just why.)
Scarlet provides too many opportunities for inconstancies. Partly due to the “living story” setup people are VERY aware of her as a construction. It’s easy to poke holes in something that you can clearly recognise as fake. Of course she is no more fake than any other character in a video game, but she is being slowly introduced in fragments that have a clear distinction between them (each LS release is separated in time, title and function/content). There’s a little too much slippage and people are very aware that there is a team writing her character and writing her into the lore – so she become unbelievable as a character, regardless of how well she actually might be written.
I think the idea is that they don’t have much of a presence since after losing contact with Cantha they lost access to their funding/troves of treasure.
Also someone might want to fix the wiki since it does claim they were involved in the Lost Shores event.
I personally seem to have some inkling of a memory that they were, but I wouldn’t be willing to bet on it and there doesn’t seem to be a reference to it in any of the dialogues that were noted from the event.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stonecrag_Kraal
I assume it is this POI.
Can I suggest that you read the information there to double check that you’re talking to the right NPC/doing the right event chain.
Although I suspect you are and that it probably is bugged.
One suggestion I have – try guesting to another server – I think you can guest to two servers in a day, I would suggest you try two high population servers.
But definitely submit a bug report. I hope this get’s noticed – it always sucks not being able to complete a map and it definitely needs to be fixed if it is a widespread issue.
Can you guys fix Southsun Survival. It is RIDICULOUS that content this broken is in game.
I realise that activities might not be that high up on your to do list, but come on – this content worked just fine when it was released so why is it so broken now?
At the start of the game players can move and collect things for a couple of second before they get immobilised.
Then it seems like some people are able to avoid being immobilised giving them an extremely unfair advantage
And on top of that others are unable to move unless killed – which of course nobody does because then they’d have another person to contend with.
Piddly excuse to abolish CNY… such a huge, elaborate festival that everyone loved. I wonder what the Asian populace thinks of this.. that there’s no CNY in GW2 but there is in GW?
That’s a complex issue – Cantha was a mix of Asian cultures, and considering Asia’s history quite often they don’t like being mixed up with one another. That is supposedly one of the initial reasons they scrapped the Canthan District from Divinity’s Reach – because instead of just being based on for example just Japanese or just Chinese architecture, it was a mixture which didn’t go down well and had the possibility of being seen as culturally insensitive.
Actually I think Asura have gone backwards. They were something pretty special in GW1, they’ve become a lot more standardised in GW2.
The thought of them going before Grenth to be judged, and them trying to possibly kill Grenth and his reapers, would be too funny to pass up.
- Read that as, A Charr taking one step towards Grenth and then collapsing into a pile of dust…
What about the Iron Forgeman?
Newly added zones do not impact world completion. As has been pointed out with the example of Southsun.
Its too bad not everyone know how to dye it before generating a preview, the ones you see on google look horrible.
Congrats on understanding colours (not sarcasm)!
That is honestly one of the big problems, people look at screenshots that others have taken using preview and go ‘eww that’s hideous’. It’s not the armour that looks bad, it’s the person who took the image’s complete lack of understanding when it comes to colour.
There are unfortunately a lot of people running around in game with disgustingly coloured armour that mismatches dreadfully. There’s nothing we can do to fix it though :/
Transfer the gold.
If either of you get flagged by automatic detection thingies then submit a ticket and use this forum thread as proof that it wasn’t some sketchy gold selling deal.
Rata Sum has areas with Asura Gates in close proximity to one another?
Also given that the gates are destroyed it’s quite possible that one has rolled or fallen sideways – which could support it being either LA or Rata Sum.
IF he were to show up in a fractal it would be a copy of a past version of him – so it’s technically not the real thing. The Fractals do not create absolutely faithful copies, they’re more of an artistic reinterpretation.
Given that we don’t fully know everything about the Gods or how the Mists work I don’t think anyone can really comment on if she could see Abbadon or not. My personal inclination is that even if she could it’s not like he could exert any power over our world or outside of the mists. Think about how Dessa seems to be trapped in the Mistlock observatory – my guess is that all fractals function like this – they can’t influence anything outside of themselves.
As to going to the mists when you die – it’s more complex than that.
The Underworld is within the mists, but as far as we know we’ve only seen dead humans there.
Yes we could technically see Mhenlo, Devona etc. as Ghosts/Souls in the underworld.
I think there was a dev response to this a while back – from what I remember the response was something along the lines of the Canthan population being diluted (as in those of Canthan descent are also of Krytan or Ascalonian descent as well) and there being more important things on peoples minds.
Basically I think the big reason is that they want to hold on to CNY for when they actually release Cantha.
This does kind of make sense – provided that it puts you back exactly where you were when you went to the instance.
Loading times are not that great for most players and it’s a real pain to have to port into a major city, generally with longer load times, and then WP to the home instance.
Bringing up a comic franchise as an example for talking about canon is about the worst thing you can do.
Comic book franchises and the movies and tv series that accompany them are rampant with retellings and retcons.
Arenanet haven’t retconned anything. The only thing they’ve ever done is pointed out that knowledge from an indirect source cannot be taken as fact. But that was obvious even from within GW1 – just look at anything Glint tells you…
