Uhh, there’s no chance of Evon backing her.
He’s been saying she’s likely to attack Lions Arch for a while now – and is angry that nobody has listened. Not to mention he runs the BLTP which has its base of operations in LA – he loses out if it gets destroyed.
I really lose faith in humanity right now.
Prepare yourself to have your faith shattered completely, (insert evil laugh here)
Through the logic that a painting of a dragon automatically points to an Elder Dragons, Cantha is already a bastion of Elder Dragon Power for the empire that rules that land is called….The Empire of the Dragon.
(You’re making a joke right? But since I can’t tell) Equating a place that calls itself the “Empire of the Dragon” with Elder Dragons is problematic for couple of reasons.
1. As far as we know there were no humans during the previous Elder Dragon rise which means that Canthan’s had no idea what an Elder Dragon is/was.
2. Cantha was decently populated by Saltspray dragons – we have no idea if they have any relation to Elder Dragons whatsoever – but we do know that they aren’t inherently evil.
3. Dragon does not = Elder Dragon.
what is the chance of it not being mordremoth at this point lol
About 0 chance. I will be very very surprised if it is not…
It shouldn’t have a title – not because it’s an accomplishment – but because it is a very easy way for people to gate others when it comes to grouped content. Do you have max magic find? No, then go away. <- Not cool.
It only helps yourself, not the group, so why would anyone care?
Because elitists are constantly looking for ways to make sure that the people they group with can prove that they are hardcore players. That’s why so many people want an examine/inspect tool – so that they can exclude people whom they don’t deem worthy of playing with them.

We know in 1127 AE Emperor Usoku defeats the Kurzicks and the Luxons . Now is 1327 AE who is the new Emperor?
We don’t know, communication with Cantha was cut off after Zhaitan’s rise – so we don’t know anything about their history since then.
Actually during the Marionette we did have all of them attacking – like yes they were in waves, but they were still all in the same place for the same thing.
I imagine we’ll see the alliances continue after she’s gone. It would be odd for the writers to do all the set up and then not really go any further with it.
I think at this point they’re all just probably very aware that they can easily destroy Lions Arch if they humour her.
Of course, but even in a group I imagine they would be trying to best one another. Norn may not be wholly individualistic – their society wouldn’t function if they were – but they do value personal achievement very highly.
I feel like a ranged necro in WvW isn’t always the best option – because all of their skills are ground targeted and it can be pretty easy for people to avoid unless you plonk it right on top of them.
The ele on the other hand has a bit of crowd control, you have access to knockbacks, immobilise, chill etc. as well as large AoE attacks.
I am biased though, I just think ele’s are pretty awesome. I expect everyone to come along and tell you staff ele’s suck though… (They’re wrong)
Norn don’t work in groups. They would have all tried to outdo one another and the one who had somehow killed her the most would take the title.
Also I think their achievement has to be notable – as in other Norn have to acknowledge that what they have done or do is worthy enough of a title.
The NPC talks about how they were commissioned by Queen Jennah.
I don’t think it was intended for them to go to the Order headquarters or to FT because if they were they would have been functioning already. I think they were there in preparation for future updates where we might have needed additional portals to other cities or continents etc.
I doubt Scarlet is driven by a dragon, though I could always be wrong. You might be right, or at least in the ballpark. Neither the gods (aside from Grenth and Kormir) nor humanity are native to Tyria, and they might well have been fleeing something that finally caught up to them. Even if they didn’t, the world that they left behind may have fallen into darkness after their departure.
That’s not entirely true. We know that the gods brought humans to Tyria (the continent). But we also have lore that states the Canthans came from further south – and this was before the arrival of the gods.
Darkbattlemage – I would consider that unlikely since Kormir resided there with the Forgotten after Abaddons defeat in order to purify it – and it was subsequently known as the Redeemed Realm.
We are at the beginning stages of overhauling our cinematic tools. It’s still very early on, so you wont see anything big for quite some time…In the meantime, you should see a gradual improvement in the quality of cut-scenes as the cinematic and writing team strengthen our collaboration efforts.
I should add that custom animations take up a substantial amount of dev resources that aren’t dedicated to cinematics.
The GW1 cinematics team was created for machinama and traditional 3D animation…whereas the GW2 team was built around animating concept art (motion graphics work)
The cinematics that you see in the personal story where 2 characters talk to each other on a stage-like environment have been…retired.
Cinematics/cut-scenes are an important part of our game. We are constantly striving to make them better and push the limits of our current tools in the process.
I kind of wish you hadn’t retired the 2 character talking cinematics. They weren’t perfect but they had their uses. When you do literally just have two characters talking it can be more engaging to see them face to face like that.
Nicholas, Divinity’s Reach is not landlocked. It’s eastern and western borders are surrounded by dams because Divinity’s Reach sits on a bit of high ground on the border of what was once the Giant’s Basin – which, if you look at the map, empties out into the ocean…
Divnity’s Reach makes perfect sense. When Zhaitan rose much of the land was flooded, there was a NEED to move to higher ground and in Kryta the northern border makes the most sense because it is the furtherest position from Orr – it is also close to the already well established Krytan towns of Beetletun and Shaemoor.
I think she’s a little to dignified to have spent the last x number of years living as a cat…
Yeah that’s good Aaron! If they don’t use that then they’re crazy.
Thanks for the update, Gaile. Whatever happened to Ashley btw.? She was so enthusiastic about communicating with the Mac community, then she vanished without a trace. We’re a bit concerned about her well-being. You didn’t lock her up becasue she was fraternizing with the players, did you?
Her post history suggests that she is still actively doing tech support – just for windows (which i think is her job anyway and has been since GW1).
We got to be Saviour of Tyria 250 years ago, I guess the dev’s decided that was more than enough?
You can always make a copy of the .dat file, then uninstall GW2 – redownload the game off the website, then drop the 20GB .dat file that you copied back into the game folder (so that it doesn’t redownload the entire game). It’s possible that doing so might force the launcher to only download the 10mb files once.
I know playing on OSX that there is a folder we can just purge if we have this issue- so removing everything apart from the .dat file might work for you.
The chances of being able to go back to Cantha are very slim. The devs and community have already talked about this at length.
Check out this gigantic thread about it.
It’s more realistic to ask for an Elonian campaign, which I’d be down for.
Actually I don’t think chances are slim at all. A lot of the devs have repeatedly expressed interest in going back to Cantha.
Please ArenaNet please make this a usable game for us and remember OpenGL works on Windows Mac and Linux making your market even bigger if you update the engine!
It wouldn’t be updating the engine though, it would be completely rewriting it.
Braham Andcheese?
I do hope we get a Canthan (and Elonian) expansion one day, but I have a feeling that first they’re going to expand the current map. My guess for the next big area is Maguuma.
Which is fine by me because new map areas is yay regardless of where they are.

They’re just very large trees. In the factions CGI cinematic you can see the tree’s in their unpetrified state (although given that wasn’t made in-house and in light of house weird the Prophecies cinematic was we probably can’t take it as absolute truth)
Absolutely, also the Zephyrites were an entirely human organisation (although they probably aren’t now since some Charr and Asura joined them)
But then there’s that whole, whatever she saw had to have been inside her all along…so I just don’t know.
That’s a misconception, the quote doesn’t necessary imply she always had whatever she saw in her mind only that it was already inside her mind when she entered the machine. It is possible it a demon or another Mist entity that possessed her and was trapped by her Sylvari physiology.
Is it possible that one was at Cantha and became petrified? I remember the cinematic for Factions showing some of the trees to be exceptionally large, some were carved into housing. Could it be they were once Sylvari Trees that had yet grown to the state of their cycle they produced Sylvari?
That’s highly unlikely given the petrification was a result of the Jade Wind which Shiro unleashed in 872 AE. The Kurzicks declared independence in 459BE – and most probably resided in Echovald Forest from that point on if they had not already. So that’s a pretty long time in which the trees were not petrified. I’d think the Canthan’s might have had some stories about the Sylvari if they had ever existed there.
So you acknowledge that my opinion of what should have happen in both Ascalon and Kryta are essentially correct but is almost completely different from the current Lore post the events of GW(1).
The whole point of these forums is to discuss our points of view on all interesting points of Lore as it pertains to the GW/GW2 world. I don’t see your point or any point of yours in fact since you merely want to re-state and enforce the Lore as and when it is written by Arenanet.
No I don’t. I completely disagree with your opinion on how things should have happened. I simply acknowledge that you’re entitled to that opinion. The point is to discuss the lore – which means the lore that is actually there. What you discuss/propose is fanfiction since you practically try to rewrite the games history – there is a dedicated section of the forums for that.

I seriously doubt there would be a way for Anet to offer compensation to Mac customers even if they wanted to. Having a GW2 account gives access to both PC and Mac version. There would probably be no way for Anet to verify Mac only customers in an effort to compensate them for lost time. If they did advertise some sort of compensation suddenly every person that has a GW2 account would be a Mac customer.
They should be able to tell actually, playing an MMO involves data being sent both ways so I imagine that something lets them know which players are using OSX. I’d be surprised if they didn’t because knowing the statistics for who is playing from what Operating System is actually pretty important. They need to know where to allocate resources and I imagine one of the reasons OSX receives such little support is because they know the numbers and they aren’t massive. It’s just a matter of whether or not it would be worth it for them – which I don’t imagine it would be.
Also you can’t provide mass compensation to mac users – because that’s giving compensation to a lot of people who probably weren’t even trying to play or hadn’t played the game in a long time. So really it would be pretty difficult for them to sufficiently narrow down WHO deserved compensation. Then there’s also the question of what they are compensating you for – everyone plays different parts of the game. Then the question of what they compensate you with – because if they gave away anything decent for free there would be a MASSIVE uproar from windows customers. Look back to the Lost Shores event, SOOOOO many people complained because they didn’t get a precursor from the end chest and some people did….
I’m curious to know if when you get it set up if it will increase your FoV and what pathetic excuses we’ll get from Anet for not giving us a FoV slider if it does.
This post has nothing to do with FoV, but to answer your question, yes Anet is working on FoV stuff, and it’s currently in the beta.

Those FoV changes are from a year ago and they were implemented in game already.

Someone said Taimi could be from the future, if so she can go back and stop scarlet and save LA after she destroys it.
She is an orphan who was raised by Zojja.. So unless Zojja is also from the future (which she isn’t) that’s a no go
The vigil keep is where they are going.
But Divinity’s Reach is pretty close by. Fort trinity technically isn’t under too big a threat anymore. The Black Citadel, The Grove, Metrica Province, Hoelbrak…. All of those are far more likely places to go.
You don’t abandon your continent just because one city got destroyed.
Also darkbattlemage was pointing out that we haven’t had contact with Cantha since Zhaitan rose which means that we don’t know what happened to Cantha. So it IS possible that it was destroyed. Although since the Zephyrites have traded with them I would think it isn’t.
(edited by FlamingFoxx.1305)
Yes please, it makes it just that tiny bit more confusing when you look at the map.
This is the best time to Cantha expansion in order to LA residents migrate to the new continent.
That makes no sense at all.
There are plenty of places on Tyria that the residents would be far more likely to relocate to. Then there’s the fact that Cantha is xenophobic and doesn’t allow anyone other than humans into the city. Then there’s the Elder Dragon that is somewhere in the ocean…
Nicholas stop talking about your own personal version of the lore. We have established lore in game and since we don’t have a portal to alternate dimensions your ideas aren’t going to happen and don’t make sense in the current context of the game. You’re allowed to think that things should have happened differently, but they didn’t.
To be fair Gaile’s attention is possibly a little more meaningful – she’s been with Arenanet for a long time.
and now there is absolutely no point in fighting them because Lions Arch and the trade that its pirates provide are an absolutely vital part of the Tyrian economy. Of course it’s all going to kitten now so oh well.
I wish that ANet would just come out and say, “Hey, we can’t really get these top notch voice actors that we got to voice Destiny’s Edge back to do voice acting for every Living World update.”
That would be the best answer they can give, instead of these, as Aaron said, mixed messages.
That or ANet needs to release an official timeline, like what they did for what happened in between GW1 and GW2.
I don’t think that’s the issue – they have the cash to pay for Tara Strong (Scarlet) so yeah, I definitely don’t think that’s it. It’s more that people didn’t respond overly strongly to Destiny’s Edge and they wanted to create characters that have grown alongside the player – rather than ones we’ve simply watched act like children.
Obsidian, the devs have kind of clarified regarding Flame and Frost that marketing MADE them use that term and that they personally wouldn’t have described it that way. So when Colin NOW says that they’re working on an expansions worth of content – he actually means it.
If it was simply more living story type content then the statement would read differently because we know how that content is developed and we know the team cycle for it – but they definitely have people working on something else.
Also Erukk the power is not actually separate from the gods. If Kormir had not absorbed Abaddons power (which was released when we defeated him) then it would have torn the world apart. She destroyed his essence when she absorbed the power – but it was still very much him that she absorbed. So you can’t just go around transferring power – we did have the blessing of the avatars of the gods.
Separate in the sense that a god’s power can be taken from him or her without resulting in death. Like in the case of Grenth taking Dhuum’s power. Grenth might have absorbed Dhuum’s god powers, but he still seems, by in large, whole. Enough to yell at us in all caps anyway, and still powerful enough to pose a threat in the Underworld.
That’s a little different. A God may be able to take some of another gods power, but it is highly unlikely that anything other than a god can do so without first killing them. Even then that isn’t something that can just happen under normal circumstances – we fought a still imprisoned Abaddon so it’s not like his power was fully regained.

You still need access to the 3 jumping puzzles I imagine too. But that is easily done.
Yeah if you think about it they’re all underground/in cliffsides, so it’s quite feasible that they won’t be destroyed. The only one I’m unsure about is Troll’s End because they will have to change how it is entered.
There is no link between the dragons and the gods. Whatsoever. This topic has been discussed to death on the lore forums so I’m not going to go into depth on how ridiculous it is here – but seriously. Just no.

Also take note of the fact that we’re at the beginning of the year with no upcoming GW2 holidays. So it may be destroyed for quite some time before it is rebuilt.
I definitely think the nightmare tower will be added.
I think they’ll do what they did with the Aetherblade fractal thou and split it into ascending the tower and then have a separate boss fractal.
Marionette is not going to happen. The mechanics would need an extensive rework.
Yeah I know that these things take time – but the next update is going to be unplayable for OSX users – so this kind of needs a fix before the 18th and an acknowledgement of that would be great.
It is just an OS X issue.
I installed bootcamp just cuz I had the time and for the heck of it, and went straight to zerg vs zerg in EOTM. It’s no issue on the windows version. On OSX I fall to ~4FPS and it’s frustrating even just to stand in one spot and turn the camera in those same fights.
I used the windows installer, stopped it when it started updating the game, then copied the 17GB or so file from my OSX partition; saved me the download.
P.S. It’s a working copy till OSX version is better. I just can’t stand the reversed mouse wheel direction on zoom in, zoom out :P
Oh my. Are you one of those weird people who uses the “natural” scrolling on OSX? That’s shameful
SHE’S BACK ON THE ROCKS. GET HER!
I don’t get why you’re listing GW1 characters Andele?
If you mean it as a parallel I would have to disagree.
You’ve listed Nightfall Henchmen – who have absolutely zero character development and because Nightfall had Heroes (and eventually we got 7 hero teams) you could literally go through the entire game without ever talking to a single one of them. Compare them with the prophecies henchmen who at least had some backstory and occasionally quests (Orion, Little Thom etc had quests about them).
Devona had pretty decent development in pre-searing Ascalon.
Honestly I just don’t think you can make a comparison between how characters were handled in GW1 to how they are in GW2 because in GW1 it was all over the show. Sometimes the “main” henchmen weren’t really ever focussed on – sometimes they were. Then occasionally there would be a major character who also happened to be one of the usually ignored group of henchmen – e.g. Danika.
