you can put bootcamp onto a 64 GB flash drive you get for $30
however, not all versions of windows will run on it (unlike mac OS, windows normally won’t boot from a flash drive, but it can be done)
this may help : http://lmgtfy.com/?q=bootcamp+flash+drive

It works only on MAC that doesn’t have DVD reader.

sorry, but wrong. I have 2 DVD drives and a flash drive with OS 10 and some utility software on it. For the flash drive, I just installed Mac OS 10 onto it like normal. Easiest to hold down option on startup to select it to start with. It does take a bit longer to start, but not bad. I’ve even been able to play GW2, which was on my internal, while booted off the flash drive, and copying my entire HD to a backup external.

Actually they aren’t wrong. There are a couple of exceptions when it comes to newer macs, but for the most part any MBP or iMac purchased before 2012 that has a disc drive you can’t boot from a USB, install from a USB or install to a USB.

There are a couple of ways to circumvent it, but it involves installing windows in a virtual box and correctly removing the system reserved partition.

So whilst your mac might be able to do it, a lot can’t.

Well if we got the Abaddon Fractal, we might have had a chance. But after hundreds a post, Anet understood that it seems that most of their playerbase have no desire to see them because they are a reference to an other game they couldn’t care for.

Why would 1 race get more content than other?

Well maybe because the humans have been on Tyria (continent, not world) for more time than the others ? (Except Charr). It would be pretty dumb to find a piece of Sylvari more than 25 years old. Or something related to the Norn in Orr.

But thinking like that is what has given us the current game : broad and shallow lore. Because “all races should get the spotlight”…

Actually the Kiel fractal won because people were REALLY pushing for cheaper WP’s. I’m not even kidding… (also she’s a human and the playerbase seems to have a rampant human bias – disgusting).

But yeah, OP, this gets a no from me.
We’ve seen the statues of the gods which were done by a guy who saw them and was a pretty good sculptor – so that’s more or less what they look like. Then there’s the fact that looking on the gods for too long starts to make you go blind!

Also we’ve seen Abaddon, and that’s good enough for me!

I suppose the distinction between recognising that they’re the personal nemesis and recognising them from a previous point in time isn’t all that clear. So yeah I guess you’re right Aaron – I kind of wish they had been clearer with their word choice because when using the word recognise in relation to a person the predominant meaning is to be identifying them having known or seen them previously.

I guess they were going for the whole ’you’ll recognise it when you see it’ kind of statement – but that isn’t really supposed to apply to people.

I wouldn’t think Lord Odran of Lazarus are possibilities.
I’m pretty sure the whole – someone you know- was intended to mean someone our CHARACTER knows. a GW1 villain/character doesn’t fit that at all.

I think the Priory dialogue is only there because it would be weird for the player character to NOT mention that they were a high ranking member of the priory.

First image of this thread heavily implies that Scarlet is searching underground, though.

And I saw screenshots that show that Braham only recently learned about leylines – from Taimi. Marjory and Kasmeer may be the same but I haven’t seen that dialogue.

Kasmeer rather confidently talks about how Scarlet is searching for leylines (she outright states it as fact) citing the Thaumanova fractal as the source of that information.

the whole tegwen/carys thing makes me wonder just how much better the personal story would’ve been if it hadn’t been so fragmented…

Much better. I understand their desire to give players choices about what their character did, but if we had been able to do even half of the storylines for our race that we missed out on then it would all make more sense, have taken longer, and been a more fulfilling experience.

yeah, it’s kind of amusing just how much more structured the story feels if you actually play a sylvari. trahearne isn’t a random character they dump in, he’s a recurring character through your story, and that alone makes him far more bearable. it actually makes me wonder if the story wasn’t first written from a sylvari perspective >.>

Ahh but open the Hero panel and go to the Personal Story tab. All the other races have intricate descriptions of each story mission – Sylvari quite often just have one or two sentences, sort of suggesting that theirs were done last and in a bit of a rush.

What does sexual orientation have to do with the fantasy genre?

What does any kind of relationship have to do with the fantasy genre? Relationships are an important part of world building and creating compelling and relate-able characters – that’s what it has to do with the fantasy genre.

Well if they don’t like it they can close their eyes and ears and pretend it doesn’t happen and go for their achievements and ignore the story aspect. Those things happen in real life and this story reflects it and there is nothing wrong about that.

Using Caithe/Faolain as an example isn’t too good, because all sylvari are bisexual by nature, as explained in one of earlier Anet posts.

I just find it amusing that people are more willing to accept walking talking cats and sentient cabbages then the prospect of a certain percentage of population being represented in a modern game.

So you’re saying anet should just aim the story at a certain minority of players?

Most of those achievement players know how bad the living story is. Even the general gaming community knows. I am ashamed to say I still care about the story. What do I say to players that left the game months ago. “Oh, y-yeah Scarlet is still the main plot of the story, but now we have useless lesbian and multi-racial relationships with the supporting characters.” That player would laugh at me if i said that, and this is the exact state of the story.

I am not saying it’s all bad, but I hope they improve for Season 2. It’s their chance to get players on board with the story, and this lesbian thing is not really gonna be the way. We want fantasy writing, not thumblr fan fiction.

The story isn’t aimed at a minority – it’s aimed at everyone. What you are proposing is EXCLUDING people, that doesn’t help anything at all.

Marginalizing people for their sexuality is not going to make you any friends. Read the dev response, their relationship was written as a way of creating compelling characters and a compelling story. Just because YOU personally don’t relate to it doesn’t mean that other players can’t – regardless of their sexuality.

The majority of players don’t really care, or comment on this forum, or even in game about their relationship for that matter.

That’s because the majority of the players don’t care about the living story, since Anet has done such a great job to fill it with engaging and interesting characters that people can relate to. Scarlet already has made a mockery of the story by turning into a Saturday morning cartoon plot.

People just play for the achievements at this point. For them the story is the same old, same old. And this relationship thing is not really helping. It’s probably just turning away some of the more picky players.

Canach is like the best character to come out of the living story and anet haven’t done anything with him for months now.

What CharrGirl was getting at was that most players don’t have any issues with Jory and Kasmeers relationship/the fact that they’re gay.

Also there is a new conversation with Canach in the prison in Lions Arch which hints heavily at him becoming important in a future update…

I don’t want to be that guy, but please, anet, stop forcing this crap down our throats. Same-sex relationships are not something that fits a fantasy game. This helps in no way the lore that has already been damaged by the living story. I know you want to make the characters more compelling, but this will just make most people scratch their heads. At least keep it subtle.

Don’t even get me started on the multiracial things with Rox and Braham, because if it’s going in that direction, then this is just gross territory.

There are other ways to make us care about the characters without forcing this. GW2 living story really lacks good characters at the moment and this is not helping.

Same-sex relationships fit in fantasy games in exactly the same way that hetero relationships do. It’s not being forced down your throat any more than the heterosexual relationships are being forced down anyone’s, including gay players, throat. Although I am very sorry you feel that way.

For people saying they should have a public testing server – no thanks, you just get everyone trying to play in the testing server so they can experience new content first which means nobody is actually playing the current content and the game sort of dies as a result.

We know this to be untrue because plenty of MMOs have a testing server that manages to avoid killing off their audience on the live content. I’m fine with the down time on EotM – we were warned about it prior to the launch and problems were unforeseen. I still think there is merit in the argument that more robust testing prior to today would have been beneficial. Perhaps they could have had an open beta weekend of EotM a week or two ago where EotM could temporarily be available for everyone to try out. Testing in a live environment before the official launch. It would lower expectations of players (the LFG tool is still in beta btw) and it would avoid patch day disappointments and awkward unresolved story progression.

Having played other MMO’s with public testing servers I have to respectfully disagree, but you are of course entitled to that opinion.

The problem with having an open beta test weekend of EoTM is that the exact same thing would have happened. It wouldn’t have worked properly and then people would have complained about it not working and Anet not doing their job – regardless of the beta tag. We’ve seen examples of this constantly with how much people complain about things that are being tested “LFG tool” and even things that haven’t been released yet.

Hydras have always made sense to me. They were only prevalent in Ascalon when it was a desolate place. It would make sense that they would migrate away once life started coming back, probably consolidating back in the Crystal Desert (where they were also prominent. As for the Aloes, reed stalkers, and all other kinds of vegetables that tried to eat us, we can only hope that they are still trying to make a living in the Maguuma Wastes, similar to how I hope that the dinosaurs and simians are trying to survive in the outskirts of Asura/Sylvari society in the western-most reaches of the Tarnished Coast.

Well, there are at least Orrian Gorillas.

Just popping in to let y’all know we haven’t forgotten about you. The team is still hard at work fixing this problem. Again, sorry for any disruptions in your plans to play the new content today.

Maybe they should test it before?

They did test it. Their testing cannot however account for what happens on the live servers where thousands of players all try and access the content at once.

Three days ago they released a statement saying that EoTM would be down for around 2 hours after the patch was released so they could ensure that it would be ok. And obviously it wasn’t ok so now they’re having to work on it more. That doesn’t sound unreasonable to me.

For people saying they should have a public testing server – no thanks, you just get everyone trying to play in the testing server so they can experience new content first which means nobody is actually playing the current content and the game sort of dies as a result.

Besides the Grove has a far better, far more centralized, layout which makes it much quicker to get from place to place – DR is very spread out. – Rata Sum isn’t too bad either.

Suddenly people who previously had completion no longer do, and then what do you do when they hit it again? Add programming to make sure they don’t get another Gift?

It also pushes new players further and further away from the achievement, presenting them with a more difficult experience than the players before them.

You can expect new completion achievements with later large additions to the game, but at this stage it wouldnt make any sense for EoTM to have map completion. Even WvW shouldn’t because it isn’t part of Tyria, it’s part of the mists.

Before the patch I had between 20-30 fps with 3 zergs on-screen crashing into each other. PVE is playable, but with at least 20 fps less than yesterday, it’s barely so. I also run the game with the graphics settings set to low or lowest on everything.

Official statement? Where?

Here:

“We have a couple of really big Guild Wars projects cooking in the background,” Johanson told me.

Later, he added: "Some of our players believe that because we are doing this Living World seasons, and these features or these big feature-builds, that it means that the features you would traditionally get in an expansion, or the content you would traditionally get in an expansion, is not something that will get added to Guild Wars 2. And that is not true at all.

“Not only are we doing those things, new features and content you would traditionally get from a boxed expansion are also things that will be added to Guild Wars 2.

“The thing that we haven’t decided yet,” he went on, "is what form that type of content will take. Is it right for Guild Wars 2 for that kind of boxed expansion? Is it right for that to be something we add, live, through storylines in the game? Is that something we want to sell through our in-game store? There are a lot of different options available to us.

“… but we absolutely are going to do sweeping new features that you would traditionally only get in expansions – large regions, content and progression additions to your characters in the form of growth and professions and races. Those are all things that you will see in the lifespan of Guild Wars 2.”

Mike Zadorojny, clarifying his comments from last year – which suggested there wouldn’t be an expansion any time soon – said: “The answer I gave you [in 2013] was that nothing was off the table.”

No, seriously, there is too much lesbianism in the game in my opinion. I hope this relationship to break in some way. I prefer the tipical three-way relationship that you can find in almost any story rather than this one, which we experienced already with Caithe and Faolain in game.

So you want a ton of heterosexual love triangles because Caithe and Faolin have filled the gay quota…. Personally I think Jory and Kas are great. Maybe a little awkward to watch, but it’s often awkward watching other peoples relationships – so in that sense it’s actually pretty realsitic.

Issues caused by your version of OSX are more likely to be external to the game itself e.g. the launcher and things that have to render in game using external things like the BLTP and the TP.
