Arenanet does not ban a bot straight away, a lot of the time bots are managed in bulk and so it’s actually helpful for them to wait a little while to see if they can catch more of them – rather than banning one and alerting the botter to the fact that their methods have been discovered – which means they can quickly change how their do it without losing ALL of their accounts.

Yup, there is no click to move in GW2, basically for the reasons Khisanth listed above – mostly the combat.

Pressing the R key on your keyboard will make you run automatically though, and then you can just use the right mouse button to steer your character.
Alternatively hold down the left and right mouse buttons simultaneously to run forwards.

Yes it will run off an external hard drive/USB (needs 20+GB of space though).
But you will see a drastic drop in performance because the game is limited to the read/write speed of the USB.

Can I suggest just copying the files from the USB onto the other computer you want to play on?

Uhh yes they would O_o.
There is absolutely no reason for the pact not to recognise the authority of the Captain’s Council. In fact it’s beneficial for them to do so. The Pact is a multi-racial organisation and Lions Arch is the only multi-racial city in Tyria – it’s beneficial for them to keep it that way because it means no single race can lay claim to it’s portage and it means that Lions Arch remains a prime trading throughput for ALL the major cities.

Jennah’s authority extends only to the lands held by her kingdom. Lions Arch no longer falls under Krytan jurisdiction.

Not to mention Lions Arch is a formidable financial power. Lions Arch is the physical representation of the unity required to defeat the dragons – that’s exactly why the Pact WOULD recognise the council’s authority.

It’s because the colours and lighting react different depending on the material.

The parts you don’t like because they look grey are metal – whereas the rest is fabric. SO yes the fabric parts will look white and the metal will sometimes look more grey – but it’s not a bug or a problem. It’s just how it is.

Actually it’s been explained before I think. You have to remember that the animals we see in game are only a representation of a tiny number of the animals that are actually in that particular place in the world. If all that was there was what we can see then the ecosystem wouldn’t make any sense at all.

Also with Dolyak Express, they got a LOT of questions and there was no way they could answer anywhere near all of them. So it doesn’t mean they specifically didnt want to comment on it, it’s just that there were other questions they wanted to answer.

The 3rd pic shows the Ascalonian warrior armor/statues found throughout Ascalon and in the Catacombs.

The statue in the 4th pic can actually be found in the Underwater Fractal. Dozens of those creepy, Elonina-looking guys in crumbling visage litter the seafloor there.

Ok you’re right, I had thought the Aquatic Ruins statues were less detailed – but I double checked and it is the same statue.

Oh well, I still think it’s interesting – that statue then is the same as the ones that are in the Observatory – there are a lot more in the Observatory though, and I think they’re smaller. (although apparently my memory is not very accurate)

I never said anything about letting her walk around ;P.

Joko crossed my mind by the way, being that entity, but I don’t think necromancers have access to that kind of power even if they are as powerful and experienced as Joko. Then again, I don’t think anyone knows the full depths of his power and if bloodstones really are weakened as I’ve read in another topic it might be possible that he is extending his powers. Of course, it’s highly unlikely since Joko is in Elona and I’m almost certain that we won’t go there for the next couple of years.

Oh I wasn’t suggesting he was behind this.
I’m just saying that during Nightfall we set him free because he had knowledge that could help us – and it turned out pretty badly for Elona.

So all I was saying is that an evil person might have knowledge you need, but it comes at a pretty high risk.

Ok here we go, took some screenshots of the Overgrown area for you: (Sorry I should have hidden my back piece >.>)

The first I took because it reminds me of the Bazaar a little.

The second is an Altar (it’s the thing in the top left), maybe someone else can take a screenshot? I can’t get close enough unless it’s captured.

The third are some smaller statues that surround the statuary.

The fourth is the large statue of the statuary – it’s a unique model that we don’t see anywhere else in game and is pretty interesting in that it depicts a man wearing just shorts and he sort of looks like he could be from Elona – was going to take a close up of his face (there are stairs up there) but I got attacked).

Unfortunately I couldnt get any shots of the statues in the observatory – it’s too well fortified to just stroll up to)

Please, if you’re going to be cynical, go the distance:

What could be more coldly calculated than to introduce a top tier character that openly has a homosexual orientation, yet because of grief and loyalty to their deceased partner has never and will never actually perform the act?

You get the best of both worlds: the “inclusion” of that edgy out-of-the-closet character while still being able to placate your heterosexual (and even full-blown homophobic) audience by saying with complete sincerity, “yeah, but it never happened. Anywhere. In the entire game.” Because while it sounds racey, a couple of Sylvari “being entwined” is about as sexual as rubbing a couple honey bees together. They are both non-reproductive drones despite the Sylvari’s superficial resemblance to human genders.

That doesn’t make any sense. Sylvari are quite capable of having sex (and the feelings both physical and emotional that come along with it), they just can’t produce children. I don’t know the context of your post but I seriously hope it was a joke >.>

I’m going to bring in an external example – Avatar the Last Airbender. Nobody reallly important dies in the final episode, but you have a psychotic girl (Azula) who has a mental breakdown and tries to kill her brother – and it makes for a really emotional and well done scene. So definitely nobody has to die, they just have to come up with something good and compelling – and I think they can do that with Scarlet.

Yeah a 7th of your friends list online does not equate to a 7th of the player base online.
Also the 3.5 million copies number is now out of date, and the number of active users online at one time may not necessarily be very high – the game is operating in a LOT of different time zones, each with a different peak hour. Of course if you want to talk about how many players are active each DAY, then that’s a little more valid a number – but we can’t guess the number, we would have to be told.

Any guess is going to be wildly inaccurate. You might guess right, but you’d never know and so the number can’t be used conclusively.

you are probably not going to like me much :P
I have never liked or trusted Caithe and most of my characters are Sylvari.

In the personal story where you give your word to let one of the Court live if they give you info- she just turns right around and kills it, breaking my word without a by your leave- I wanted to give her one upside the head.

She has always struck me as rather mean and unfeeling and untrustworthy.
It makes me very uncomfortable that she is a firstborn that most Sylvari look up to

Add the recent Living Story into the mix and- yes- I don’t trust her at all.
I wouldn’t be surprised ar all if she is a lot darker than we are led to believe.
So what I most would like to say to her – is stay the heck away form me and mine, or else

The reason she seems so dark and untrustworthy is because she was touched by Faolain, and while it is never stated I’m pretty sure that her body is slowly being taken over by Nightmare – a fact which she is trying very hard to conceal. (The Aetherpath possible touches on this a little as well, Caithe is trying to stop Scarlet from revealing information about her).

Why is that important? Because a Sylvari cannot be returned from Nightmare, so I guess the idea is that Caithe has been touched by nightmare and cannot be cured.

On Horses....

in Living World

FlamingFoxx.1305

Mickey that is incorrect. Horses and Kirin are two distinct things, and we know both to exist.

The fact that Kirin are spirit monks doesn’t tell us a whole lot – and nowhere is it stated that they are in “horse form”. The fact that the Celestial Horse uses the Kirin model doesn’t tell us anything at all – there was no horse model in game which required them to use an existing model that was close enough – you will notice also that the celestial horse used in Canthan New Year is sightly modified as it does not have the Kirin’s horn.

Also we KNOW that horses exist in Tyria (continent) because, as I said earlier, there were Necrid Horsemen who rode skeletal horses. Horses, not Kirin.

Lordkrall, you’re right we have no idea where they saw those horses, but it was on the planet of Tyria and it is actually rather likely that it was somewhere on continental Tyria – just not necessarily anywhere we have access to. Otherwise the Asura have an awful lot of explaining to do. I’d also love to know how they burrowed beneath the ocean and have no recollection of their people ever doing so?

So we KNOW that horses exist, we just can’t be certain there are any on Tyria – though we know that at one point there were. We also know that they can be, and were, ridden. We can reasonably assume from the sole use of Dolyack as pack animals that horses don’t exist in large numbers. It’s entirely possible that they were native to Orr.
Though at some point they were found in Kryta, since we have information about someone having a horse during the reign of Mad King Thorn.

It’s ANets way of telling us they are increasing team sizes to 6! So that there is room for a new race later.

Why would a new race merit an increase in party sizes?
The party size number being 5 isn’t because there are 5 races, it’s because they looked at the 8 professions and figured out how many players were needed to fill all of the niche roles whilst allowing a little bit of leniency.

Every single dungeon in game is designed around 5 players – increasing it to 6 would actually cause a lot of problems.

- Of course that’s off topic.

Something missing from the original

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FlamingFoxx.1305

I’ve never set foot in GW1, but going off what I’ve read in the forums, as well as having watched my wife play GW1, I get the feeling that what is missing is the “my world” feeling.

That emotional attachment that let’s you step into your character and say “this is my home. This is where I grew up, and these are the people I call friends”.

GW2 is “just a game”.

Yeah you pretty much nailed it.
But I don’t think GW2 can achieve that. Part of the reason GW1 managed that is because everything was instanced and in a lot of ways it played out like a single player game – so it literally was your story.

GW2 loses a lot of that feeling by opening up. Of course GW2 has its advantages and I think it’s a great game. But I do really love GW1 and it’s always going to hold a special place in my heart.

Anet has little love for us explorers. We’ve gotten two new zones in over a year (and the small one went away with the LS).

Yeah, but I understand why they’re doing it that way at the moment.
This close to the games release they want to keep players relatively centralised.
Most of the maps are already pretty dead and adding in a lot of new zones simply makes that worse because it spreads the player base out even more. I imagine they want to wait a while until box sales have started to slow down considerably before they go releasing a major content release with a lot of new zones – because at that point it’s likely to bring in new players and boost sales again.

On Horses....

in Living World

Actually there are horses in lore as well as Kirin.
The Kirin were specific to Cantha, but Tyria does have horses – we just don’t see them in game.

The novel Destiny’s Edge makes specific mention of the main characters coming across a field of wild horses.
They’re mentioned in game in GW1 in a couple of instances, and the Necrid Horsemen (undead horsemen) in GW1 are riding skeletal horses. There have also been horses in GW2 concept art.

Also in GW1 the Kirin are actually pretty large, I think you could possibly ride one – but I don’t think they would ever let you. They were intelligent beings and they were also specifically protectors of the land, so it’s doubtful that they’d even let you see them unless they wanted you to.

I don’t think they can roll back the changes.
The changes were made to the client itself, rather than specifically to the OSX version – I think rolling it back would require them to actually get rid of changes that have made a positive impact for windows users – not to mention we have no clue if the ‘optimisation’ changes are the blame, or if it is something else in the EoTM update, nor do we know if those specific changes can be separated from the EoTM update changes and simply rolling all of it back to a pre-patch state would garner a lot of backlash – both against Anet and the Mac community.

But yeah, Anet you guys need to have some mac users in your testing pool because it seems like a lot of this backlash could be averted if a couple of the community members who test content before it goes live had macs…

And Ananda is definitely right with the second paragraph.
Gaile obviously you noticed this thread and the thread in the bugs forum, but did you also notice the page and a half in the optimisation thread beginning here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Official-state-of-skill-lag-and-server-optimizations/page/4
There are a LOT of people experiencing issues and whilst it is great to have you acknowledge them the mac community isn’t left feeling particularly confident about there being a fix any time soon because all previous issues have garnered very little attention. I appreciate that you personally have followed up on some of the more recent issues – but this lack of communication and lack of support has been going on since the OSX client was released over a year ago – that’s a pretty long time and I think you have to agree it’s rather poor – especially considering you guys are so amazing at responding to issues in other areas.

you can put bootcamp onto a 64 GB flash drive you get for $30
however, not all versions of windows will run on it (unlike mac OS, windows normally won’t boot from a flash drive, but it can be done)
this may help : http://lmgtfy.com/?q=bootcamp+flash+drive

It works only on MAC that doesn’t have DVD reader.

sorry, but wrong. I have 2 DVD drives and a flash drive with OS 10 and some utility software on it. For the flash drive, I just installed Mac OS 10 onto it like normal. Easiest to hold down option on startup to select it to start with. It does take a bit longer to start, but not bad. I’ve even been able to play GW2, which was on my internal, while booted off the flash drive, and copying my entire HD to a backup external.

Actually they aren’t wrong. There are a couple of exceptions when it comes to newer macs, but for the most part any MBP or iMac purchased before 2012 that has a disc drive you can’t boot from a USB, install from a USB or install to a USB.

There are a couple of ways to circumvent it, but it involves installing windows in a virtual box and correctly removing the system reserved partition.

So whilst your mac might be able to do it, a lot can’t.

I installed Snow Leopard from a USB hard drive onto a 2008 MBP that had a broken internal DVD drive. I had to reboot a bunch of times while holding opt to finally get it to boot from the external drive. It was a hassle but I did it so I think everyone is somewhat misinformed on this topic.

For the record, I DO NOT advocate any Mac client users running out and buying Windows licenses just to play Guild Wars. A-net sold us a Mac client and they should stick behind supporting it or trash the whole thing altogether.

Of course you can install OSX from a USB… You can’t install WINDOWS though, which is the main issue.
Windows can’t be booted or installed from an HFS drive and the OSX EFI won’t read an NFTS of FAT drive unless you have a newer mac.
