So I assume your powerbook is much older than three years since nor did they make single core macbooks three years ago?

You would be best off with an i5 or i7 Macbook Pro. A PC will work better, but a macbook pro with Windows installed via bootcamp will work insanely well.

That is like complaining that a movie trailer didn’t show you the entire plot before you saw the movie. Like actually.

Except, you know, the story of GW2 isn’t the main attraction. The gameplay is. I want to know what I’m playing. How has swapping to trailers boosted people’s hype? All it’s done for me is make me way less excited for the releases. It used to be I’d see what I could play and then the excitement would practically kill me while I was waiting. Now, I watch the trailer on Monday and forget about the update for a week and then log on Wednesday or so to see what I can play.

I haven’t looked forward to any of the updates since they swapped to trailers except for this one, because it seems to have the most potential to change the world out of any LS update. I’ll still log on later today to check what’s happened.

That is highly debatable. GW2, like GW1, is a STORY based game. Arenanet has always had a focus on story – it’s just a lot of the MMO-hoppers that come in and think it’s all about gameplay. The updates are about story – a lot of us don’t want the story ruined before we get a chance to play it. It should be the same with gameplay anyway, why do you need to know what to do before you can do it. Learning when something hits live is a lot more enjoyable than starting and already knowing exactly how to do something. Melandru forbid you actually have to work hard at something.

In what way was GW1 grindy?
The end game achievements like vanquishing and cartography sure. But the game itself was not grindy at all – it was entirely story based and armour was very very easy to get.

PvE skills, faction-based titles that gave you access to armor, weapons and consumables and in the first year getting BiS gear was expensive aswell (runes, upgrades)

None of that was necessary. Faction based titles were entirely optional and the armour that they gave you access to had EXACTLY the same stats as the armour you could buy from a vendor – that is horizontal progression by definition.
Runes and Upgrades were not that expensive, money was not difficult to make in GW1.

You don;t know that the humans have a larger population base…. That is not a verifiable fact.

Also the Centaur are trained for war, they live for war – and they do actually have access to a LOT of magic. Hence the pretty badkitten boss Ulgoth.

The Ascalonians who fled to Kryta generally weren’t the soldiers and their numbers weren’t all too impressive – hence the Ascalonian settlement led by Captain Greywind.

The Centaur brought together ALL of their tribes. That means that it is not just the Tamini, but the Modnirr from the Shiverpeaks and the Harathi from the Maguuma. In GW1 all of these tribes were a force to be reckoned with ON THEIR OWN. Now they’re united.

The Centaurs certainly DO have the technology as well – they’re highly proficient in siege weaponry and engineering. Hence all of their rather large forts and catapults.

I know that people are so used to everything being laid out right in front of them – and actually having entire plots in movie trailers – but that is NOT the way things should be,.

What is the point of them telling you everything that is going to happen before it happens. Wouldn’t you rather know a little bit and then get to have a surprise?

Konig, the assumption that there will be 2 zones comes from people misinterpreting part of the Massively interview. It was stated that they have worked on a way to allow any personal story missions that take place in Lions Arch to be completed – but that presumably just means that, like always, they will be instanced and may be accompanied by a new explanation for why it has to be instanced.

No, they’re playing on completely separate servers to us. The game’s being released by a Chinese company (in conjunction with Arenanet). So their client shouldn’t have any impact whatsoever on ours – except for the things Arenanet has been working on to add to both clients.

You’re talking about one specific aspect of the game.
You can’t ignore the TON of PvE content they’ve added and say they haven’t added content just because it isn’t content that you personally play.

PvP is about to undergo an overhall – they’ve told us that in advance a while back. WvW just got EoTM and had the Season 1 achievements – and will have the season 2 achievements at some point in the future.

LS does not cater to the solo player – or did you somehow miss the update to Tequatl. The two Super Adventure Box updates. The Marionette. The Wurm, etc.

Boss fights as part of the living story aren’t new either. We did have the Karka Queen added a while back.

Follow these instructions VERY CAREFULLY.

4.)If it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved log in/password and in-game settings.
To access this:
1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.
2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.
3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.
4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2
5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.
The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.

Let me know if that works?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FlamingFoxx.1305

Martin no they have not…
They’ve stated multiple times that any progression they do will be horizontal rather than vertical – as in new trait lines, rather than increased levels.

They’ve learnt a LOT from ascended gear and the uproar from it, they aren’t about to increase the level and create a tier above that because it would make a rather large portion of the game redundant. Crafting would become pointless for any new players.

GW1 never once raised the level cap and it would be ridiculous for GW2 to do so. They put the level cap at 80 to appease traditional MMO players, but it still functions similarly to GW1’s low level cap. There’s no reason for them to ever raise it.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

FlamingFoxx.1305

No idea why they wouldn’t just hand the localisation of GW2 China off to a third party like every other MMO ever has done… if what I’ve been reading is correct and we’ve been seeing absolute lacks of content being produced as they’ve been spending all their time and effort trying to get GW2 ready for a China release.. that’s really poor.

That’s not correct.
We have not been seeing a lack of content – GW2 has consistently put out way more content than any other MMO within very short timespans. 2 weeks between decent updates is pretty amazing. They’ve also been stated to have a larger team in the background (on top of the i think 4 living story teams) working on content closer to what you’d expect from an expansion.

And honestly, it’s a GOOD thing that they are the ones managing the localisation, it means that the quality of the game and the lore is consistent and also means they have more money to fund more content further down the line.

When do u expect the lvl cap be raise?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The level cap will NOT be raised.
Ascended is intended to be the final tier and progression from this point onwards is meant to be horizontal rather than vertical.

FlamingFoxx.1305

Seriously. There is no singular live even at Patch time.
If there was they would do what they have done any time previous to know and would have let people know.

That kind of one-time thing gets WAY in advance notifications because this is a global game.

They notified us when there were 1 off things for halloween (the cinematic), they notified us for the couple of one off’s in the lost shores event.

Patch time doesn’t help you anyway. If they were having a one off it would have to happen AFTER patch time – otherwise only the few people who patched quickly and have super fast internet would see it.

Use common sense people. Arenanet is a company full of intelligent people, they aren’t going to make content that is a one off and NOT tell players about it.

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

FlamingFoxx.1305

I don’t think they would do this with Orr.
Orr was designed to be an end-game zone. It’s sort of failed at that, but not completely – people do the temple events.
Splitting the playerbase between a past and present version of maps is not a good idea because it would make Orr’s already sparse population even sparser.

With Lions Arch, it’s not actually a separate map for people who need POI’s – map completion will take place on the new, destroyed version of LA, – it’s a separate version of LA for people going through the personal story. Of course we don’t know the exact details, but we will tomorrow.

Seeing as they did next to nothing in the fight against Zhaitan or even back when Claw Island and the city got attacked the first time, why would they suddenly show up now?

To be fair the personal story was supposed to be happening concurrently with the dungeon storyline – so Destiny’s Edge was busy doing things like shutting down CoE, helping the Kodan in HoTW, dealing with the ghosts in AC, etc.

How is the combat dumbed down? GW1 combat was stationary, skill-spam based combat.

How is the character customisation dumbed down? Trait lines function in almost the same way as GW1 AP. The only real difference is that GW2 has fewer skills – which has its benefits.

I’ll give you mobs – but no open world MMO can have what GW1 had. GW1’s mobs were interesting and well-pathed because you could take them out without worrying about where they respawned (because they didn’t).

GW2 is not GW1. GW1 is already a game so of course they didn’t simply remake it.
I absolutely love GW1, I also absolutely love GW2. But seriously people, stop making comparisons. One is a CORPG the other is an MMORPG – they could not have functioned in the same way. GW1 is a unique beast.

I’m American I don’t think I’ve heard her Trahearne say Claw island like that lol.

I did say might not be able to understand. Honestly that was the only explanation I could come up with for why someone might think he’s saying chlore and that it’s worth mocking. I could sit here for hours and mock the American accents in-game and how ridiculous some of the things they say sound. Centaur for example. But I know that the game is global and that means that a lot of people with different accents are playing and so we are all used to saying things differently. There’s not really a “correct” way of saying something when you take accents into consideration.

Why is 8 a good number? Because you said so?
GW2 is NOT GW1. You can’t say that because there are 8 player parties in GW1 it will work in GW2 because it is a completely different game. The combat is different, and requires different things. Not to mention there are no heroes or henchmen.

GW1 got away with 8 player parties because when there weren’t enough people you had AI to fill the remaining places. GW2 does not have heroes (for obvious reasons, the combat means that AI allies are next to useless) and therefore they dropped the number down to 5 to ensure that throughout the day there would always be enough players to form a party.

Even as it is its sometimes difficult to fill out a party of 5. If it were raised to 8 then we would have a lot of problems.
