I really hope this include a massive nerf to certain champs (if not all) like the Krait Witch or Horace. Those are extremely hard to kill even with a lvl 80 in full ascended gear.
Not to mention the Blood Witch or similar champs impossible to kill without either a big group or a small party of extremely good players.
First of all, every champ in the open world is soloable. Second, you’ll be able to retrait instantly and for free to get ready for a specific fight, so it should be no worries. You could even just facetank everything, since almost no enemies can heal themselves.
The key to the success of this will be on how you personally use it. I can already see a lot of glassy (or high crit for that matter) WvW zerg surfing rangers taking advantage of this to deliver big numbers.
If you’re going to skirt along a zerg, you don’t need faster arrows and you don’t want to give up the piercing. Just fire in to the middle of the zerg and you’ll hit several people with each arrow.
The other competing trait not only directly increases your damage a significant amount, but also allows your glassy butt to be out of direct harm by giving you the best range in the game.
I could see someone roaming going EE for the damage bonus and RtW for the faster arrows. Piercing is not that important even in as much as about 5v5. Although in that scenario spotter and remorseless come in to the mix. And I guess the signet trait is always in the mix. There is just no room.
congratulations on totally outdoing my imagination on what a warzone actually looks like after the conflict.
Kind of a weird statement, unless you meant for ‘rated T for teen Tyria’ only. In our world, it’s quite a bit more horrifying, at least according to the several soldiers I know with PTSD. Thankfully all I’ve seen are pictures.
I love the Avatar of Arrowcart. That would be hysterical.
He just replied he and Karl will be explaining it tomorrow on the livestream.
Karl and I will be doing a Ready Up livestream tomorrow going over all of the new traits. =)
Excellent.
Well, Roy posted in the GW2 forum, so I took the opportunity to see if he’d give us any insight in to the trait. We’ll see if he replies.
I dont see how doubling the projectile speed will make a difference. People rarely dodged the arrows before. Now if they are doubling the base attack speed (yea right), then that will be a significant change for us.
That would be similar to autoattacking for 12k.
I’m glad you are excited, and we are too. This is just the first taste of stuff coming in the build. There will be many more blogs. =)
Everything looks amazing, I’m super excited for all this stuff to go live.
Out of curiosity, would you like to say anything about the ranger GM trait? It seems very underwhelming, especially considering the traits it’s competing against.
Once the “stand in a spot and not die” format is replaced with something more interesting, ALL PvP builds will change drastically. I can’t even put forth a guess as to what things will look like when the new formats come out. Depends on the goals.
Don’t get too excited. We have to give up piercing arrows or the range increase.
Don’t forget the very important percent damage increase on EE as well.
People are complaining about longbows? I have got to see this. Usually I read about how rangers couldn’t kill a rabbit with a LB. BRB!
Edit after doing a “find” for ranger in their threads: Nope, not one positive thing about our new GM trait in any of the other forums. Several of them make fun of us, though.

I’d want a lot more than 100 power and faster arrows to give up the range and % damage increase from Eagle Eye, but I get your point.
Friendly play? That means buffing support roles. That’s what it has always meant.
I’m guessing the new ele trait is a taste of this. And that more content like the aetherblade TA path or Marionette is coming.
yes, they do not FIRE faster. But animation is dependent on projectile connecting to the target. This is why your toon does not fire another arrow before the first one reaches the destined location (regardless of range)
This is also why, if LB did same damage on all ranges, it would do insane damage at 0 range, and “normal” damage at 1500 range. Because LB dps, as is, must factor in projectile travel speed in addition to skill cast/aftercast time.
Edit: double ninja’d
I just went in to game to try this. The attack animation was the same speed regardless of if I was:
- at the ‘slightly greater than max range’ that LBs can hit with
- standing at 0 range from the target
- shooting at no target at all
Not to mention sustained DPS is way stronger now, as you can calculate LB damage from 0.75 + 1 second travel (1000 range) to 0.75+0.5 (1000 range)…. that means LB AA DPS will, in theory, be twice as high with this trait.
How are you getting a damage increase out of this? They didn’t mention a faster autoattack, the projectiles just get there faster.
The ele trait I could see getting used in tPvP though. In fact that’s what RTW is saying to me as well, because there is absolutely zero use for faster arrows in PvE.
Longbow users already have to make a lose-lose choose because spotter is also in that line; that will be 5 “critical” traits in the MM line. I really think they’re going to be reworking the line based on the CDI feedback and this new trait reveal. They did say they were reworking a necro traitline for the upcoming update.
The real exciting news (since we have basically zero info on new traits) are the trait resets anytime you want for free and all the blog posts scheduled for april.
These are going to completely change the game, I’m thinking.
Oh my god, this blog post is major! Gonna have to reread it a couple times, but it looks pretty exciting.
First, never gonna happen. Second, why are you calling his champions dragoons? That’s a type of cavalry.
Leveling build = having a pet.
I’d recommend melee over the longbow so killing trash doesn’t take so long. Flame trap is pretty good for that even if you’re 100% power, and you can blast it with your warhorn to give yourself and your pet some quick might. I’d skip any single target long cool down things like sic’ em*. Pet options would be the highest DPS pets of jungle stalker, lynx, or jaguar, or birds for added swiftness. Drake pets have a little AoE, and they are tanky enough to handle champions. Skip healing spring and take one of the other two heals. HS is for group support. Master’s bond doesn’t scale down so that it a popular trait for leveling, the rest is pretty much whatever you want to do.
This is all with the presumption you’re not having any problems simply because you have a pet and are familiar with GW2.
*Edit: Actually I change my mind, sic ‘em wouldn’t that bad for trash. The uptime would be 25% which is totally reasonable, if you use it on a full health target you don’t spike down.

Wait… why the hate? They’re a cute couple.
I’d rather see Braham x Rox. Taimi is just too young, around that age 4 to five year difference is a lot (assuming Taimi is in the asura equivalent of 18 years old).
Taimi is 12. Also she weighs probably 20 pounds compared to Braham’s probably 350.
If I’m not mistaken, the leap gives you a faux evade for things like ettin stomps if you’re in the air at the time. Don’t quote me on that, but that’s what I thought I observed after doing 100% map completion with a sword.
Also obviously you can fly away from an attack and have it simply miss you.
My thoughts on this was that it seems really unrealistic that Scarlet’s minions didn’t loot the city first. Even if they couldn’t steal all the valuables from homes and businesses, leaving all that coin in the bank didn’t make sense.
Do Krait or Flame Legion have any use for Krytan coins? I guess the Aetherblades could use them. The Nightmare Court would probably not be able to pass as normal slyvari long enough to enter a city, they’d flip out and murder a kid or something.
Anet responds to people, does things that are asked, and helps people in need. I think what you meant to say is “I didn’t understand a situation, had an amazingly bad idea about the situation I didn’t understand, ranted about it and Anet didn’t acknowledge me.”
There are some things that are what I consider “hard” lore and some that are “soft” lore. The calendar change is so insanely tiny and really has nothing to do with the actual story of GW. That’s what I consider soft lore. WPs, rezzes, these things are game mechanics that are given a bit of fun flavor. I don’t think too much about them.
Lore is always secondary to the actual game because the lore accentuates the game rather than the game accentuating the lore.
I like the ruined thumpers all over the place. I hope they remain, almost like the GW1 ruins you find all around. Maybe the ones around civilization could get cleared, but the ones in the middle of nowhere might be a bit overgrown and remain. Would be a nice touch.
That info is now a year and a half old though. I think we may just get the stuff for free since the gemstore has done well.
The New Map Of the Crystal Desert is available from the Gemstore!
For only 10000 gems you can explore this wondrous land and acquire secret treasures within!
You joke, but they original said all expansions if they were ever released would be available through the gemstore. So you could use money like you regularly would, or you could use gold and never pay for an expansion.
I would bet they come through the LS since China will be starting fresh with us. It would be weird to have an expansion immediately after they start the game.
Any minor change to any class and creative players will find a way to break the game with it. I don’t envy the balance team.
Some of the farming builds from GW1 were just absolutely absurd in their creativity and success at breaking everything.
Question about KasJory Romance [Spoiler-ish]

It would be terrible PR because the issue is still so fresh in our world. They can use speciesism as a metaphor for xenophobia or racism in our world because those are issues we’ve been dealing with for millennia. Homophobia is way too recent. When I was a child it was accepted by pretty much the entire world that that was the correct way to think. Now it’s the exact opposite in a ridiculously short amount of time. There are probably even people playing GW2 that would agree with the homophobia, and that would be disastrous PR wise.
It was really awkward and cheap to use the same intonation of it every time, but I think it was intentional for a laugh.
Where the hell are you? Did you break out of the map?
They’ve probably gotten worse since you left, but the community has become a lot more educated about them.
If you want to be top of the line at everything with no effort, play a warrior.
PvP, spirit rangers are at the very top of the pack, requires no effort on your part.
PvE, frost spirit and spotter with sword/warhorn are typically part of a dungeon speed run. Requires medium effort on your part.
WvW, mostly just roaming, but rangers are very good at it. Requires a decent amount of effort on your part. Not ideal for zerging, but it’s possible.
Spirits are the best bunkers for tPvP at the moment. They aren’t pretty, but they’re the best of any class, so use them while you still can. It may be the only time rangers are so absurdly OP in any format.
I combine the perma regen/swiftness shout build with the typical spirit build for a truly broken setup. Use your two favorite spirits, Nature Spirit elite, and “Gaurd!”
Edit: Just to clarify, take the trait that applies regen and swiftness to allies on a shout.

I think it’s a good thing (interesting) she’s racist, although I get what you meant.
Kudos to whoever voiced the woman at the western memorial. I saw some people in map chat saying they teared up a bit. That was a really cool speech (cool for lack of a better word… touching?)
I wouldn’t buy anything expensive. They’re completely overhauling all runes in a few weeks.
(in realty most just auto kick when they see the paw print though)
Because I feel the need to correct this myth so new rangers don’t get the wrong idea:
I have never been kicked from any dungeon or fractal group because I was a ranger, which I play pretty much exclusively and almost every day.
If you’re running a build that is clearly bad, i.e. you show up with a bunch of signets next to your name and are wielding a shortbow, I can understand why you would be kicked immediately.
Weird, doesn’t do that for me. I can’t really see any advantage to having a targeted lynx attack be ground targeted. Having the ability to trigger a leap combo doesn’t make up for the massive pain in the kitten that would be.
It would be a terrible idea for the current dungeon meta, but rangers can be absurdly bunkerish. There is a reason they are considered the best home bunkers in PvP right now.
Rangers have massive regen uptime (even permanent regen really easily), good protection uptime and tons of evades.
I stopped playing fractals, so I swapped out all my agony resist for +5 power infusions on offensive slots. My question is on whether I would get more out of +5 vitality or +5 toughness for all the defensive slots. I would have all the armor and I believe the backpiece and 2 trinkets. All gear and weapons are ascended berserker, and I use it for all types of content (except PvP obviously.)
I’m thinking the vitality is the way to go. With my con and guard buffs, that’s a respectable 23,000ish health for WvW on pure berserker, and it helps with condis. BUT, I don’t really understand the math of toughness. IIRC, and I have to run out the door, I have 960+ toughness, so it’s quite low, ad I don’t even know if that would be noticeable at all in dungeons. Looking for opinions!
Edit: Back and checked the actual numbers. I have 2 trinkets and 1 amulet and 1 ring that are defensive, plus the 6 armor pieces. So I can get either 50 toughness (currently 946) or 500 health (currently 17,744 with zero buffs active.)

I really enjoy doing dailies/monthlies, so nope, no chore. I don’t do all of them though, if you’re doing all of them that may be why you don’t like them.
Dailies and personal story get you to 80 super fast. It wasn’t a chore at all for me to level every profession to 80.
It’s not that it kills the pet, it’s that it makes your pet into nothing more than a condi dump because if a pet gets crippled or chilled it’s never gonna hit the target again, and if you’ve got any points into actually utilizing your pet, those points have become worthless.
EB is a horrible trait that’s only “meta” because “meta” in GW2 stands for “I can play this build and be mentally handicap and perform well.” Instead of “this build is superior to others due to what it brings.”
If I’m running a guard build, I’m using a spider, so cripple and chill do nothing to the pet. Also, worst case scenario and your pet is useless or even dead.. better that than me being useless or dead. If you don’t like it, don’t use it, but EB is a solid trait that should be considered by anyone.
Prince Rurik swore a good bit, mostly involving the human gods. “By Balthazar’s beard!” sort of stuff.
Reading through the dialogue from his missions might give you some ideas.
Works fine for roaming. People don’t use it for zerging because there is too much AoE and you need to be able to charge into large groups without dying.
Can’t… I don’t play anymore nor have the desire to get rid of 400 glory boosters i got…
Cool story brah, but you really did not have to take the time to come tell us that you quit. Reminds me of people that graduated from H.S but still go back in their lettered jacket.
Post of the week.
