This is exactly the same reaction that happened with the RF buff. Now if you die to RF, you get laughed at.
The point is: why would you use another heal when you have the potential to share all boons with your pet and access to something like 15s quickness.
HS Team support > Pet support
You always play the craziest music in your videos. I think I like them more for the music than that it’s a ranger video. Where do you find this stuff?
We’re like beaten children that are chained up in the basement. Someone brings us food and we yell at them we don’t deserve to eat.
Compare rangers to shout warriors or d/d eles or any other team staple build from over the years. After trying it in a realistic scenario, WHaO is not at all OP in my opinion, and even if it was stronger than it is now it would still be ok; rangers needed and need some buffs.
Yeah man, as a long time ranger main I’m sick of all these posers and pretenders offering balance advice to a class they have no idea how it works! And then to pretend to be a ranger.. Ugh. It’s so frustrating sometimes.. You just don’t know who you can trust.
.. Except me. You can trust me.
You look like a mesmer main you impostor!
This is what breaks your suspension of disbelief?
Not a suspension of disbelief but the fact they just look dumb. Imagine our brown bear model doing the fire wyvern F2*; some models and animations just do not look good together.
*Which makes me laugh out loud imagining it, but that’s not really what I want from my pet.
I can see some pretty strong interactions with zephyr speed, “guard!”, “strength of the pack.” etc., but so far, I don’t think it’s really OP.
What I do fear a bit is that in teamfights, it can get ridiculous: Imagine just an Ele and maybe a Guard together with the ranger; if you keep yourself and your pet kinda in range of the shouts and attunement-switch buffs etc., I guess you should be able to keep up almost any buff permanently…. ^^’
That was TCGs shtick back when they were dominating everyone. Support the hell out of each other when other teams weren’t. That’s part of how we wound up with things like shout warriors and d/d eles that keep high stacks of might, fury and prot on the entire team.
It’s pretty strong 100% uptime on quickness. http://imgur.com/Z7PnlrX
I don’t have stacked protection but it’s easy. How did you get so much quickness? What was your rotation?
Use condi clear, pet swap and heal on CD, which is not even remotely realistic.
Guess what thou, who do you think is going to apply pressure quicker? that condi players HP will drop in a HEARTBEAT if he decides to just tank a ranger + pets quickness.
Why is anybody tanking anything in PvP? That literally never happens.
It’s pretty strong 100% uptime on quickness. http://imgur.com/Z7PnlrX
I don’t have stacked protection but it’s easy.
That’s not realistic though. I didn’t have perma boons for anything in a real PvP match. Even without this change there were a ton of different ways to perma stack certain boons, it’s just a “I’m alone in PvE” type of thing.
This reminds me of the reaction when RF changed, and look at how many rangers now swamp the WTS.
We were subpar to begin with. Maybe this needs changed, maybe people just need to once again view rangers as an entity instead of a free kill.
OUR PET also has access to this duration of quickness lol…. you know how much pressure that is being applied from ranger + a pet ON CRACK??
Pet pressure is pretty irrelevant unless you put some effort into it, like using it as a push moment with entangle or something. For the cost of your heal, elite, and pet swap, I’m totally ok with the AI getting to deal some damage.
I ran a match to test it out. 25 might is good, but 1) only shows up when we heal in a team fight, which is VERY comparable to other cele might stacking builds and 2) doesn’t do nearly as much damage as I was hoping. I guess that’s do to axe stacking a reasonable amount of might even without WHaO.
Maybe it’s the fact that I got spoiled by having a champ genius and champ legionnaire (and dabbling with d/d/ ele), but this doesn’t seem out of line to me.
Regen, fury, swiftness and prot are not worth mentioning since we have those whenever we want anyway.
I can’t speak much about the quickness. I took the quickness grandmaster, but I usually use taunt so I didn’t feel like I was using it appropriately.
I think this makes us acceptable and more in line with other builds rather than OP.
i think what they did with the f2 is if you have taunt trait when you press 1 time it will dothe taun as a normal skill then you press f2 again and it does the actual f2 skill they kinda added like 2 skill whne you have taunt up thats how it works atm i think
If that’s true, that’s how we were all using it anyway. Could be a nice QoL.
Hasn’t been my experience, they die over 50% of the time in any stack boss within the first 3 to 5 seconds of being placed down.
You’re putting it in the wrong locations. Is there a particular boss you’re having your spirit die at? I’m sure we can offer you several safe locations for it. You typically put it where no one goes. For the burning effigy, put it just outside his big red circle. For the 4 boss combo in uncategorized fractal, put it in one of the prison cells. Some you can stick in range but behind a rock like the first boss in Arah P2.
OP and rangers are not meant to be, the nerfplosion is imminent. This is scientifically proven that rangers can’t have nice things.
You do have to wonder. There have been some crazy specs (HELLO CONDI MESMERS HOW ARE YOU DOING /wave) that have been in the game for long periods of time without getting nerfed. It is ok for rangers to actually be at the top of the pile for the first time in GW2 history?
What did you do?
In my experience, the overwhelming majority of dungeon runners are still in ascended power infused berserker rather than sinister gear (myself included) so I don’t know if sun really does that much pre-expansion? I also am skeptical condis actually decrease a boss kill time any measurable amount when they all die instantly to crits and ferocity without waiting for burning to kick in.
Great changes + fixes all around. I’m also VERY surprised they let Call of the Wild give 3 stacks of might. I was sure that wasn’t an option when they finally made it into a blast finisher.
I guess Irenio IS turning out to be Ranger’s Robert Hrouda 2.0. Feels good to be a Ranger again with a competent dev at the helm that will actually do some changes (good ones, that is).
That change was absolutely critical to making WH questionably viable IMO. The weapon has fallen into complete obscurity. Hunter’s Call is utterly useless outside of that MKT bleed build, CotW gave us boons we didn’t even need as a ranger, and the blast finisher was on such a long CD compared to so many other professions. Not acceptable for such a valuable offhand slot. With the trait that gives you CotW on pet swap, this could actually be really quite good. Dunno yet, but I will try it for sure. Anything that improves our weapon options is great in my book.
Looking hopeful to the point I think I will order HoT for this weekend. Gotta let the initial feel-goods wear off before I decide.
Frost spirit still provides 75% chance to add 10% damage boost. I think you merged Frost TRAP and storm spirit.
Poor Frost Spirit. That skill’s group viability just got destroyed.
Huh? It got buffed unless I’m missing something obvious…
That said, I think it would be interesting if there were ways to show play-hours as a value or percentage of a particular class when you comment on the appropriate sub-forums. This would be useful for determining if people know what they might be talking about, but wouldn’t be terribly restrictive either. GW2 API keys can do this with 3rd-party websites, so they could easily implement it with their own stuff.
I am only at 65% on my ranger (2117 hours ). I thought it would be a lot higher percentage than that. Also my account is worth almost exactly 10k gold… Madre de Dios! Please don’t hack me, almost none of that is tradeable.
Very basic stuff, but I’m pretty happy about everything.
Maybe they’re just falling with style?
You’re saying they’re in LTO (Low Tyria Orbit)?
Edit: Maybe the fire wyvern’s F2 should be renamed “orbital bombardment”.
(edited by Fluffball.8307)
There is a higher air pressure in Tyria, which allows animals to fly while being heavier than on earth. /totally scientific
Kind of like how hippos glide through water!
lul wut? you’ll quite because the vyvern cant in real world fly ore because there are no winged hyppos or hyppo themed wings? :-D
Quitting because no hippo wings in gem store. Such an obvious thing everyone wants.
Dude its a baby dragon, he doesnt need bigger wings (IMO) and I find it perfectly fine. Be happy that you get this awesome pet even if it doesnt have the most realistic size. Why do people have to complain about anything..
There is a 99% chance I quit over lack of hippo wings.
Did you assign your traits, amulet and runes? There is a PvP build button at the top middle of your screen. It’s not the same as your PvE build.
Physics get different (for lack of a better word? Obviously the same physics.) when you get down to insect scale. The insects in GW2 probably couldn’t fly either. Or even stand.
I guess there is something intimidating about a 4000 pound hippo with no wings hovering over your head.
Alternatively it could make it nearly impossible to dislodge an attack, if it’s supported by a druid.
Remember random arenas in GW1 where whoever had the monk auto-won? Or if there were more than 1 monk or ritualist per team nothing happened the whole match? They really need to step up the solo Q team matching algorithms to prevent a team of like 3 druids, a guardian using a clerics amulet, and a herald.
I wonder if Heal As One + Fortifying Bond will cause a loop where the boons will keep stacking higher and higher.
WHaO is on a 16 second CD, and the transfer probably gives a set amount of boon duration like FB does (maybe like 6 seconds?)
The chart below shows how the heavier a bird gets, the exponentially larger its wings get to be able to keep it aloft.

Juvenile wyverns look like 2 ton hippopotamuses with webbed toes on their front legs. It’s comically, ridiculously out of balance. Ya ya magic, but does it have to look so friggen goofy?
IIRC they implemented some of the better ideas into the main ranger. I really only paid attention to our best ranger players’ posts so I can’t speak for the thousands of garbage posts in that thread. :-O
Nurse Joy ahoy
Oh nice idea! I may have to make a new ranger called “Nurse Ratched” (feels more appropriate for a damage dealing druid.) Maybe mainhand axe, Nurse Ratched with a Hatchet.
Ha, I know the feeling. But ranger vets don’t have a monopoly on the profession. Probably almost everyone playing GW2 has a level 80 ranger that maybe they’d like to use and don’t know how/don’t feel welcomed in groups.
I’d even say the devs have a responsibility to people who don’t main ranger to at least look at their concerns. Not everyone is a first responder, so AEDs will give you verbal instructions on how to resuscitate someone in cardiac arrest (ok that was a really obscure metaphor, sorry.)
Exactly. I didn’t mean to imply you’re an idiot, but if you have no idea how ranger works, chances are you’re using LB/GS. In that case, swoop and WHaO/Resounding Timbre are your buddies. You’ll move around the map twice as fast as a necro.
Edit: In an emergency, you can use lightning reflexes (you’re using this I assume) to get somewhere faster as well. If you’re being chased with like 400 health left, if you need to contest a point or you lose a match, if they’re about to steal boss, etc. Use LR.
(edited by Fluffball.8307)
That’s six.
That’s only two.
That is six.
I assume you’re playing a LB ranger since you have no idea what you’re talking about. If so, use swoop and resounding timbre. A lot of people like SotH for the extra kiting on LB and the extra damage on your maul, but I think there are better options. Still a solid choice.
That’s six.
Cele survival with a/d s/t. I think that will be very very strong. Axe should be autoattacking for like 1400 per bounce or something crazy?
I need a box for “I am a ranger player and it’s way too early to tell about druid.”
If druid really winds up being the monk in raids they hinted at, probably staff longbow. You wouldn’t want to be keeping the whole party up while also trying to melee a 1-hit kill boss with complicated mechanics or fast attacks like the Lupi kick.
That said, I’m extremely, extremely skeptical that’s how druid will be played in raids.
I practically spam WHaO anyway. With defender runes and resounding timbre, the benefits are worth getting out there as much as is reasonable.
And if you’re going to use it in a cele axe build, if there are at least 2 targets you can be certain your pet has 25 stacks of might at any given point so you can be more judicious in using it.
GS is 100% power and axe is condi, so that’s a bit of a weird combo if you intended to roam with it. 1v1 an axe does very very little power damage. It can be decent against 2 targets, i.e. another ranger and his pet if they are close enough for the bounce (not likely since most people run LB.)
Water spirit is just atrocious. Any of the other heals is drastically better.
If you want the standard for builds, you can always check out metabattle.com. Even though your weapon combo won’t be on there since it isn’t generally used, you can pick up some ideas about utilities and what not.
It will probably be a default length of time like fortifying bond, but it will probably be affected by strength runes, or what is even the point of the runes. And if not, with axe autoattack you should still be able to very quickly get some great stacks of might on yourself.
This is a cool idea, but I think PvP is the place to use it. You can really quickly get 25 stacks of might on your pet with MH axe and 2 opponents/clones/pets. That’s going to be crazy.
I’ve learned to love cele because it covers all your bases easily. LB isn’t so much ‘power’ in his build, it’s a long-range condi. Cele lends itself extremely well to outlasting your opponents; you have little bit of condi which is supplemented perfectly with your normal attacks that hit WAY harder than a normal condi build. And then on top of that you have healing power, vitality and toughness, making you fairly hard to kill.
Cele is very strong for rangers.
You’re on YB right? I recognize you from playing in that same spot all day every day, haha. I ran into you a bunch of times when you were still up against FA (if you’re the guy that camps that sentry post on YB anyway.) Anyone who 1v1s a ranger roaming in that spot is just plain wasting their time.
