Kal Snow – Norn Guardian
(edited by Fomby.4295)
Well, if that is in fact a problem. I’d have to experience it to tell since pets are affected by cripples and fears and other cc. So it would just mean that players would actually see our pet as a threat and have to deal with them instead of ignoring them. …. I got a little dreamy eyed thinking of that…
But anyways, maybe garuntee a pets hit or improve attack speed if they won’t let them attack while moving?

Mmm, I don’t agree that it would be overpowering. As long as the mob is standing still, my Ranger can kill it in the same amount of time as my Warrior and Ele.
I would prefer them to fix the pet to attack while moving, and better survivability … And better responsiveness… and better survivability in dungeons and WvW.
But if they can’t fix those things, then sure, implement your idea.
It still seems we have left in the dark and also we are just hoping for changes on the 14th. Does anyone know for sure that the ranger will get some major changes on the 14th?
No, all that was said was their intention to look into a Mesmer bug dealing with phantasms. We just assume (very dangerous) that there will be other fixed to all the classes as well.
A response to this thread would be nice.
Also, nice demonstration OP.

Gives great survivability and healing power. Using a sword/dagger and longbow atm, but shortbow might be better for the condition damage, but I like the abilities of the longbow more so I suck up the lack of damage with area denial and vulnerability.
Using dolyak in the armor and damage and might in the weapons.
I don’t play in tourneys because I’m a pretty casual player. But I’ve been dominating in spvp. Also, healing spring and flame trap is great for combo finishers.
Is there a way to ge the whisper armor if you’re in one of the other orders?
I don’t give a kitten what thieves think. Every spvp match I play, half of the people in the game are thieves. And that’s pretty much the minimum, I’ve seen it so that 75% of the players were thieves.
They’re OP and they know it. And they want to stay that way. Give us , or somebody, a reveal. Tie it to a current utility if they are complaining about it being too specific.

My theory is, if pets are supposed to be such an integral part of the ranger(even bugged) then I try to capitalize on that. With masters bond giving my pet that extra stat boost they become quite the force. Also, with myself being bunker class, I am welcomed in dungeons. And it allows me to melee, which is more exciting that hitting 1 on my shortbow.
For dungeons I feel like you need to have a ranged and a melee weapon. I use sword/warhorn and longbow because those are the weapons I find the most fun. (Even when the swords root gets me into a pickle)
Rangers are good at doing a mix of support and damage. With my sword/horn I can buff with the horn and do very nice damage with the sword. Using a flame trap and healing spring I set up nice combo fields. (Use monarchs leap to get a flame shield or bust some extra AoE healing)
Then the bow gives vulnerability and AoE damage. Albeit short ow is probably better, but I like the the way the longbow looks and the support that it offers.
And pets…. Well…. Yeah they kinda suck in dungeons. Roll with bears or spiders I suppose my poor wolves have to get stowed.
I support the thought of either a canine having their f2 skill detect stealth for a certain amount of time. 6 seconds? Or having the pet skill “guard” reveal stealth for however long that lasts. (How long is that?/what is the area of effect)
I agree, the male and female armors for medium are not appealing to me. The only one I like is the duelist, and the set you get for cadecaus manor, many of the others have you looking like a pirate. (Which is all good, but 1 or 2 pirate-esque sets is enough.)
I’m also not a fan of the heavy armors, unless you are a towering norn.
Lol, you don’t see anything that would make them overpowered? I see three things that would be ridiculous.
•Trap damage increase
•Your rampage as one condition skill would destroy heavy condition based builds
• 25-30% damage increase off the top??? That’s ridiculous.
I do think that there are problems with the class, many of them coming from pets, which I know they won’t be fixing any time soon, if ever. So I agree that something’s should be looked at. But these things would make us more OP than thieves.
For a “jack of all trades” class, I don’t really see many tips/tricks like I would expect there to be. The only useful “tip” I have is depends on if you’re using a sword, which is turning off the auto targeting, using the 2 skill to get out of the fight, turn around, deselect the target, and hit 2 again to get even further away. If you have the short ow you can use the number 3 skill to get even further.
Useful in WvW when you find yourself too deep in the enemy Zerg. However, sometimes you do get stuck in the air when jumping back…. Which is annoying.
Roll a warrior. The pet is an integral part of the class, one that will never change. And one that is apparently very difficult to fix, so don’t expect to have pets able to attack moving targets anytime soon.
I mean, they only have 2 people working on one of the more important parts of this game.
I don’t like the downed skills in general. The only skill you should have is to slowly revive yourself.
I don’t have 10, but how about
Marksmanship
- Signet of the Beastmaster has been removed. Active signet effects will now affect rangers and their pet by default.
- NEW Read the Wind – Increases the projectile speed of all arrows by 50%.
Hey! I love that signet idea. I also want signet of the wild to be buffed to a 20/25% speed increase.
Or, we can just add that new effect to signet of the wild and leave the speed 10%.
Yeah, I’m not saying its worthless. Just that it has its problems. Also, as far as I know, that golem doesn’t have any sort of speed buff, which a lot of players in pvp do.
Hmm never played my ranger in pvp but I know from fight them all I have to do is keep mobile and pet never hits me.
That’s actually because “no one” bothers taking the 30% pet speed trait, that coupled with cripple and pet hits you quite often. Tho, pets really need higher base mov. speed
Mmm, last I knew, that skill was bugged and you only get a 14% increase in speed. Also, that’s not the main issue. The issue is that pets will attack, but in order to do so they must stop moving, which allows the foe to move away. So even if that attack hits, the player will be so far away after the pet casts its stuff that there is a serious delay which lets the foe escape.
Disappointed in my ability to pick professions.
It’s always the ones that sound the coolest. “Want to be a force to be reckoned with? So attuned to nature that you can command animals? Fight foes from afar while your four legged friend rushes in the fight?!?!? Too bad, we hate rangers.”
They still fall over from a slight breeze. So until they can survive more than a sneeze, they’re still useless. Which is sad, because I like the way they look. And the bonuses would be cool to play with.
So much fore “but we have to test all these changes”. Hypocrits.
Right? Who is testing this? I’m pretty confident nobody at Anet plays a Ranger. Because they would have noticed the ONLY viable build had a pretty big bug. It boggles the mind. And if there IS a guy playing/testing ranger, I would be happy to give him a few pointers as to what to look for.
On a slightly related topic, what do infractions mean?
On a very off topic thought, SWTOR went F2P today, right? Guess I’ll check out my Sage healer…
I think all of this is a little blown out of proportion, having 400+ hours on my ranger I can honestly say even if I’m disadvantaged numberwise, I can still hold my own.
It’s possible that the outrage is a little over the top. Unfortunately, in my experience a little over the top complaining from customers is what gets the producers attention. They are much more likely to pay attention to the guy screaming bloody murder at them where other customers could see, than the guy who is politely asking if this is indeed the intended outcome.
Too many times have I seen the nice guy be reassured that everything is fine (when it’s not.) And too many times have I seen the prick who is making a scene get what he wants.
Why?
They have stated that they are well aware that Rangers are in dire need of fixing. And yet, they have issued tons of buffs/nerfs to other classes. Showing that they are spending large amounts of time with those classes.
Why wouldn’t you fix the most broken class first?
Traps are indeed nerfed. Most of these “buffs” buff things that nobody uses. And half of them are underwater. WHO FIGHTS UNDERWATER!?!?!
If you believe that rangers are the most broken class. Why wouldn’t you manage most of your time around fixing them? Instead of giving other classes heaps of time.
“A chain is as strong as its weakest link” kind of thing.
How was any of this potentially a spoiler? JP, I do not think that word means what you think it means.
#dissapointed #nerfed #TerrorsoftheDeep
They better be some awesome bullet points with there only being 16 of them. Unfortunately I don’t think they will.
•Invincible spirits (to make them comparable to warriors banners)
• sword rooting fix
• pet can now move and attack at the same time
• obstructed bug fixed
• increase in arrow travel speed
• increase usefulness and decrease cool downs on ALL signets
• increase pet survivability( especially in dungeons and WvW)
But what I really wish would happen is to either have stealth chains removed from the game or give us something to reveal them. (Like a spirit or signet)
But, I think we’ll be lucky to see just a few of those things happen. whatever! I’ll just play halo until they decide to fix rangers.
Cool! Thank you!
I’m not sure if this has been brought up or explained but I have a question about pets.
When defending a keep, why can’t pets run through the door access to attack the attackers? If you’re a full beast master spec this takes away a lot of your firepower while trying to defend from the top of the wall. Now obviously you could jump down and run out the door, sic your pet on somebody and then run back in. However, first off I don’t know why the pet isn’t capable of running through the door. But also, and possibly more importantly, it means you can’t keep attacking with your bow from the wall. Meaning you’re losing precious time attacking foes.
I’m aware that pets suck in WvW right now anyways, but it doesn’t mean this is a non issue. Or at least in my opinion.
