Ultimately their metrics improve, but people go there for the wrong reasons. Not because they want to do the content or enjoy the content, but because it gives an AP.
Therefore the problem is with the people and their priorities rather then ANet.
@OP and others: Decide what’s more important to you, grinding AP’s in game mode you don’t like or losing those precious 2 AP’s.

I salvaged 36 pieces
Found your problem, bro. Add a couple of zeros and then come back.
1.Every build that has killed somebody is op.
1. Exactly why nobody cry about Guardians, despite the fact that they show up in ALL tPvP teams
I just had a “sudden clarity Clarence” moment.
Engi spammed me to death with grenades the other day so he’s OP as well.
Are you sure you are not talking about teamq ? Because you shouldnt’t be able sync in soloq.
In fact, if you have screenshots that proves that syncing happened (especially with an entire team being from a single guild) you should definitely send it to support because there’s definitely something fishy going on.
It probably is for around launch time dates. You won’t see that kind of concurrency numbers until an expansion is released.
I’m expecting hellfire and the white counterpart boots, then the rest of the armor set.
This could be an interesting topic, and I’d like to offer a few remarks from my very limited understanding and experience.
First, to get to 75g in combined money, gems and assets one needs anywhere between 5 and 75 hours of active play, not counting more valuable drops or playing with TP. Therefore getting 75g is a very easy goal to achieve for any player, and by the definition you provided majority of the active player base falls in the rich category.
Second, the truly rich in this game are TP flippers and manipulators. They have by far the highest margin of profit compared to any other kind of activity. Of course, playing the TP is considered by the vast majority as incredibly dull, complex and time consuming so thankfully there aren’t that many of those around (or at least I hope so xd).
Third, I completely agree that basing game economy on RL economy extremes is not the right way to go. In RL we can see both positive and negative examples of either complete control or complete deregulation, but almost all of the “success stories” lie somewhere in between.
IMHO, GW2 does just that, and sticks with the system of regulating the market, nudging it slightly when deemed necessary. For example, on TP there’s a flat tax that serves as a gold sing meant to reduce the inflation, there’s binding of items that can be gained through other kind of currency, for the same reason, there are updates to crafting tables whether through changed recipes for refinement or new exotic items requiring materials that are in excessive supply and lastly there is modifying loot tables.
In conclusion, I think that you should change the numbers and indeed, as suggested, add an additional category to your tables representing the people who play the game through TP. To compare it with your example those would be the magnates of US monopolies. Oh, and speaking of which, I think that you compare GW2 economy to any number of healthier economies then US’s. While the top money makers numbers might be similar the comparison loses meaning after income drops below 6 digits in RL or several thousands of ingame gold worth. I’d suggest using any of the Scandinavian economies since they are considered among the healthiest world economies at this moment.
For Ms. Briar, resources jump out the air like sparkles ‘round a unicorn. Most of her minions have little if any reason to follow her, but by now it feels like a quarter of Tyria’s population has happily fallen in line to suffer under her pigtails. Troves of materials that would make a nation blush get tossed around the continent like confetti, and we have no idea how she got them. Or where she keeps them. Her incessant raids around the world expend much, but acquire nothing. Although her enterprises bleed assets at a horrific rate, they miraculously keep getting bigger.
There are some other good points that you mention, but this is by far my biggest gripe with Scarlet. I know that this is a PG13 game, but this effortless acquisition of unlimited resources that are just as easily squandered reminds me of any generic cartoon villain meant for comic relief, incapable of progressing (or processing) a meaningful storyline.
And I completely agree that she doesn’t have much in common with Joker. The way some people compare the two always irked me.
So hammer/gs should be better? Gs for catching up with 3 and 5 and hammer to keep pressure, meh i guess that should work.
How about hammer + sword/warhorn ? With leg specialist you’ll have 3 sources of immobilize, one of which is on autoattack and one of which is a gap closer. You’ll also have perma swiftness, 2 on demand blast finishers and a disable cleanse. All of these are great for small scale fights. You won’t be as mobile as with GS, but you’ll be able to deal with enemies better once engaged.
And tbh, in WvW, most of the time I facetank first few hits of 100b, since vast majority of warriors rolls pvt gear so it’s better to save your breakers/stabilities/ports for when you really need them.
I won’t comment on pros/cons listed that I personally disagree with since most of that is a matter of preference, so I’ll just stick with the correcting the fallacious entries
PVE / PVP gear is locked to PVE / PVP
PVP gear is free
cant earn better PVP gear
rewards for PVP are skins
cant use certain abilities in PVP
This could all be summed up in one response. PvP was envisioned as balanced playground denying anyone any sort of advantage outside of their skill, situational awareness and build choice. To put it simply: this is by design.
As for rewards, I was with you on that one, until the last patch that added bunch of other stuff, goldz and more AP’s.
all classes are DPS
all classes can heal
no tank or healing class / spec
shields dont passively block melee attacks
shields overall seem useless
healing power scales poorly
This can also be easily summed up with pointing out your lack of experience. Shields are very useful, and all classes that can use them have viable builds for them. They also do provide passive defensive bonuses, if one traits for those. As for healing power/tanking/DPS issues, you are simply wrong, and the fact that teams always roll at least one tank guardian in PvP, while spirit rangers, decap engies, MM necros and some warriors can serve as back up tanks should be enough to refute everything you mentioned.
As for healing, without dedicated healer it is an imperative to provide every class with a way to regenerate lost HP during combat.
cant salvage karma gear
By design to prevent exploits.
boon duration is usually less than 5 seconds
Flat out wrong. Signet of rage is the first thing that comes to mind, it has a cooldown of 60 seconds (untraited) and gives 3 boons for 30 seconds. With adequate bonuses you can have those three boons up non-stop.
cant refund skills
Don’t understand this one. Why would you refund skills ?
level scaling - This one I don’t get, do you think you should retain your stats in lower level zones ? or do you think you should be denied skills/utilities that people in that range shouldn’t have access to ? I’ve seen people advocating both sides.

In my experience, it is more like the opposite.
I m far away of being pro, however, I was somewhere in the 300s of the Solo Q leaderboard. Then, within 1 day, I completly fell out of the leaderboards du to the fact that AT LEAST every 2nd game was 4 vs. 5 and the majority of the remaining 50% was terrible Matchmaking (fighting A team with 2-3 bunkers without having 1 in my own team, A lot of Skyhammer, etc.)
Hmmm, strange.. In my case, I’m playing on average ~13 soloq games per day, and in last week or so I had less then one 4v5 game per day, and even then most of 4v5s are justifiable (DC’s and such).
I did notice that when I’m not playing in high concurrency times (~14-00h CET) the match quality is drastically lower. However, when concurrency is good enough I’m getting teams in which players have deviancy of at most 10% from my position (top1 to high 80% atm).
(edited by Freeelancer.2860)
If u don’t get any matches with 4v5 you’re allright. Same when you are nearly never getting r1s.
The case is that alot people have unlucky matches.
Getting r1s is a matter of position on the ladder. So is getting 4v5 matches. On top of that, if you never leave during the match chances of getting 5v4 are better then getting 4v5 since there are less variables in your team.
Play enough games to escape MMR pit and you’ll see a drastic improvement in the quality of matches. Of course, if after 100-200 matches played you don’t see an improvement in your rank I’m afraid to say that the problem is not in the system.
I know I’d be happy to pay £30 for some major additions to the game. A new JP each month…. not so much.
That’s why you don’t have to pay anything for a new JP every month.
@OP: The “feature” patch should be around April AFAIK. There isn’t much information yet. I’d suggest that you wait after the holidays for more information from the developers.
Some things I’ve read in this thread that I thought I’d spend my 2 cents on:
While being in ELO hell is definitely frustrating, as OP said, if your skill level is better then the average at your bracket, you will eventually climb in positions. It might take 10 or even a 100 matches but eventually you’ll get to the play level you deserve. Hang in there and try to learn as much as you can from each match.
For games that usually end up with 500:350 end result or better, with rare occurrences of leavers/skyhammer dropouts/trolls and what not you want to get to at the very least 80 percentile.
For team carrying, rolling a super duper bursty 1v1 master is probably the worst thing you can do. What you need is a a reliable class that is able to hold its own or has high mobility (or preferably both). Decap engies, gs or sword (or both) warrs, any thief with a bow, and to a lesser extent portal and blink mesmers, bunker guardians, MM necros, hambow warrs, spirit rangers etc.
Why ? Because if you are stuck in Braveheart reenactment the side that has that one sneaky/sturdy guy that plays conquest mode instead of DM will win most of the times.
Alternatively, you can help your team mates romp ‘n’ stomp by rolling full condi necro, HGH grenadier engie or glass cannon staff ele. As a plus, in some maps you can position yourself so that you can intercept someone assaulting a side point.
At low MMR, 9/10 times the opposing team will completely ignore you and the ledge of your choice and happily die to your AoE spam while trying to take out the rest of your team.
Ofc. goes without saying that if your play level has already peaked you won’t see any long term improvements no matter what build or tactics you employ and the real problem might just be you.
Best of luck and may the odds be ever in your favor.

About the DE’s.. I agree that most of them seem like the usual escort/gather/kill for some random reason nobody really cares about, but as someone already said there are some DE chains that are interesting and/or well thought out.. For example I remember the pirate base in Timberland Falls, with quaggan who wants to become a pirate captain.. Or just to the south of pirate stronghold there’s an event chain with dangerous dwarven artifacts. Allot of mini dungeons/hidden areas have interesting events as well.
Warrior was and still is the easiest and one of the most effective classes for PvE. As for reasons: highest base HP pool, highest base armor rating, highest mobility, high damage, low skill floor, viable ranged and melee options and absolutely no downsides.. No other class gives you so much room for error as warrior does, and no other class has as many strengths and no weaknesses.
For example, first character I navigated Orr with was an Ele traited for survivability and while I didn’t have any difficulties I still had to avoid some mobs and be on my toes.
Now I’m currently moving through Orr with full zerk warrior and it’s like I’m taking a stroll through Queensdale.. I have time to admire the architecture, read inscriptions, explore, do event chains and what not.
This is my banner, this is my buff,
With this I smack people, and this I camp.
EDIT: meh, dev deleted his post should’ve quoted him, t’was a good one.

See that would make sense… if the ranking system didn’t blow. Before they reset things, i hit rank 72. When it was reset, I was defaulted to rank 65%… I CAN NOT GET OUT OF IT.
I can not break 72%.. and its for reasons like this.. just stuck with bad players, and its hard to carry them. Also, at this level, lots of afk’ers too… i think I have a 20% 4 v 5 rate….
Pre reset I was probably top300-400 (my personal high was 211). After reset my rank quickly dropped to ~30%. Pulled myself out of ELO hell and now I’m at 91% with the current gain rate being 1-3% per day.
I’m at best an average skilled player, but I have good situational awareness (and in conquest mode the latter one is more important). I also try to communicate with the team either through map drawings or by suggestions/tips.

I dc’ed 3 times in a row and now I have dishonor for one day and half?
You “dc’ed” 3 times during a 36 hour period, not in a row. Fix your interwebz, PC or whatever else made you dc cough cough.
Also, nice job with necromancy, Swampman, and it is indeed 3 stacks before the game locks you out. If your friend is absolutely certain he didn’t leave 3 games in 72h period he should contact support.
It leaves the problem of the team arena: I totally agree with you, that for the team arena, there is no need at all for a dishonor-system, and that this problem should get addressed! If your teammember decide that they will take consequences for your broken internet connection or pc, than that should only be their decision to make.
Except you can join team arena even if you don’t have a team, so you could still screw up someone’s game.
My solution is to go play something else where I feel less pressured to do time limited content and don’t have to rely on incomplete, fan created summaries to get me re-oriented in the game world.
There are also some official summaries of the LS available, for example this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBqw62AssWk
I don’t think I understand the purpose of this thread or your view. Tbh it seems quite hectic and detached, but to each his own.
I wish you best of luck in whichever game you pick up next, I’m sure GW2 community will embrace you if/when you decide to come back.
A guardian who from the beginning till the end tried to kill enemy boss on foefire. Sufficed to say, he never came even close to the boss.
I too have had some work related issues keep me away from the game at times, and have missed certain parts of the living story. Too me it’s no big deal, but I understand how it could be off putting, and frustrating for others.
Would it help you if there was a way to go back and recap what you missed in game? Without going back and replaying the story. Say for example a news boy in Lions Arch, that would give you a brief overview of what you missed Think of it as a newspaper archive. Take the end of the Nightmare Tower story for example, you pull up the archive pertaining to that specific story, and while the cutscene of the tower exploding is playing you get a voice over explaining what led to the towers destruction.
I don’t know how much work that would take devs but it’s it’s an interesting concept.
Tbh, this would probably be a good way to help those who for whichever reasons missed parts of the living story. Then again, seeing how getting books in the game (or just dialogues longer then a paragraph or two) is a relatively big technical issue, coupled with the amount of people who would actually benefit from this particular implementation should make this a low priority item for devs.
The solution of going to wiki/youtube if one is interested in previous patches he missed is much more efficient solution, and in the end, let’s be honest, no LW releases required more then a few hours to walk through or even complete.
@OP and people sharing same thoughts: I missed dragon bash and aetherblade retreat parts of the living story. I simply stopped playing game at that time, but I don’t blame ANet for whatever happened in my life and my inability to play the game. Instead I read about what interested me about those releases and now I even have the chance to play some of the content I missed through fractals dungeon.
Think about it this way – now that we know about Scarlet and her minions and allies, how logical would it be to still see refugees moving through Wayfarer Foothils running away from “unknown threat” all the while Scarlets Minions are attacking that same map…

Hi. Use barage against a group of 12+ random people. Then use Grenade Barrage. While you are at it you should continue using any of the grenade skills and count how many you are able to chug before you die.
Then come back and share your results.
We’re not talking here about roamers or sPvP.
Learn to burst, learn to not spam autoattack, learn to use conditions, learn to NOT spamming fast autoattacks, if your flamethrower is a problem vs guardians because retaliation, DONT USE IT vs guardians, dont ask for a nerf for a already weak buff.
Retaliation is not just ok, is weak. More in this meta with insane burst and condispammers, there is no meta of low damage fast autoattack right now. Stop autoattacking with your flamethrower (or any similar effect) and you will be happy.
This guy is right. Rangers should stop using longbow and engies should stop using flamethrowers and granades in WvW. And to balance it out ANet should remove staff and greatsword from guardians or give both weapon sets 5k selfdamage on each skill use, so guardians would learn NOT to spam fast autoattacks.
lol no, there are numerous ways out there how you could prevent a 4v5, like other people mentioned already give a surrender function, or don’t even let a match start when the teams aren’t equal, and I’m sure there are more reasons that I can’t think of right now. Not letting players play for 2 days isn’t the right approach.
Look at it this way: Next time that happens you’ll have two whole days to watch as many comedy shows as you want, and browse the internet to your hearts desires !
@OP:
When I first started playing PvE in GW2 the first real “wow” moment (apart from the scenery, dialogue, events etc.) was the swamp world boss in Queensdale. Maybe showing one of the low level world bosses would work for your friends as well ?
I beg to differ about the statement that there’s no way to experience GW2 at first… Cities are beautiful and lively, there’s tons of events happening everywhere, starting maps have champion mobs and world bosses in them, mini dungeons and jumping puzzles… Going into WvW uplevels your character and gives you at least a surviving chance against fully geared people.. Going into PvP unlocks everything and puts you on literary same level as a 1yr veteran with thousands of hours invested…
I’ll reiterate what people said: dungeons are not the only thing in this game worth visiting. Besides, they (should) appeal more to people who already discovered majority of other content, broke the initial illusion of the game and started seeing some of the flaws. If your friends don’t find all of what they can do right from the start appealing then I guess that’s just the way it is and I’m sorry for you not being able to enjoy the game with them.
And forums are quite toxic and polarized about pretty much everything. IMHO they are the worst part of the game. Just don’t let the more vocal members get to you.
This is very unreliable, as the MMR spread between different players at the top of the LB is likely completely different to from 0-90%.
Using only anecdotal evidence I’d say this is the truth.
After the reset I was stuck in “ELO hell”, being placed ~30%, but I quickly managed to raise above it gaining sometimes up to 5% per win. However, from 80% ’till now I need at least 3-5 wins to get a single percent and keep it.
There are two definitions of p2w in this thread and that’s where the whole difference in opinion comes from:
1) P2W – I absolutely need to invest RL money to get items that give me a clear advantage over other players (usually items usable in PvP, but not necessarily). This is clearly not the case in GW2.
2) P2W – I can invest RL money and get stuff in-game… In which case it’s more of an argument along the lines of “Money can buy me happiness”.
I consider that an overstretch, since same can be said about anything… I can spend money to buy uber mega giga buffed account in WoW, I can pay someone to mod my character in Skyrim so he looks super awesome, I can pay a comic artist to make a fanfic of my favorite game/show, hell I can even make a movie about a franchise I like just like Uwe Bowl did. But why stop at entertainment industry ? I can buy citizenship in Canada, Australia or Scandinavia, or any other place on this planet really… I can “buy” a new heart from Albanian mafia.. With enough money I can be the first man to set a foot on Mars…
Yes, we get it, money can buy you allot of things, and GW2 is no different… Should it be called P2W ? Only if you call everything else in this pitiful society of ours P2W in which case the whole argument makes no sense.
(edited by Freeelancer.2860)
Moreover, does your understanding of ‘player skill’ also include movement and tactical decision-making, or just ‘skill’ as in executing one’s build better than their opponent (i.e. winning most of one’s 1v1s)? Because it by far doesn’t boil down to individual skill alone, and a random team with better player synergy (i.e. good rotations/colapses/prediction) can still beat an opponent who is better skilled, but has worse rotations. I’d see teams in spvp/tpvp lose the game even though they were wiping the floor with their opponents, score-wise.
As Ludus tried to explain time and time again, everything apart from what you yourself bring in the game is completely irrelevant, and that includes distinction between combat skill and situational awareness of other players, their build choices or what they ate for breakfast.
Given a big enough sample, in a random composition of soloque, all of the parameters even out eventually, with only you being the controlling factor. Leavers, individual combat skill, tactical prowess, r0 pvp newbies or r60 pro players etc… None of it matters and it all evens out eventually. What you are left with is what you bring to the game, and while it may take a while to get yourself to where you belong eventually you will get there.
As some people already stated, removing report button, slapping a sticky with a notice that matchup subforum is not moderated and maybe even removing the kitten filter would make the life of both ANet moderators and WvW community much better.
Hell, if they did that maybe the rest of the “hurr durr me no like x” crew would join in the fun, so in the end WvW matchup forum would become the place to vent all of the frustrations leaving other forums open for (at least a bit more) constructive discussion.
Because people always find reasons to justify their failures…
most people I know who didn’t click with GW2 are mostly people who :
1. likes traditional MMO with trinity and cluttering UI.
2. are FPS lover.
3. expects expansion even though GW2 give them free DLC fortnightly.
4. don’t stay with a game for too long. they move from one game to another very fast.
All of the above, but I’d also add:
5. People who came to GW2 for competitive PvP and found it in terrible state that it was (pretty much entire crew that came with me to this game left it for this particular reason)
6. Munchkins who rushed through the game, played hundreds of CoF p1’s to get their shiny legendary and promptly quit because they didn’t know what to do with themselves and didn’t set foot to any other part of the game.

IDK about hitpoints, but the point of the game is to bring present back to the base, and scout is both better present carrier and interceptor.
And a supporter is a far better interceptor and runner because icy ground forces the carrier to drop the present. Just run in and steal it. If anyone follows, drop the present and do it again, or place a wall, or heal yourself. All the scout can really do is stealth and pick it up, which can be good, but overall, it’s not.
Actually, IMHO, swiftness is almost as important as stealth is.. You can’t cast wall or icy ground if your enemy is already out of the range, so if you get blocked by say a support from other team you can kiss that present goodbye.
Same goes if you are the carrier. If you avoid combat, by the time stealth wears off you need much less distraction from your teammates to evade the hot pursuit.
This cinematic, (and LS) I like it ! ANOTHER !
IDK about hitpoints, but the point of the game is to bring present back to the base, and scout is both better present carrier and interceptor.
lol @ P2P, since this is one of the rare few games where whether you invest $1000 or nothing, you will be on equal footing.
As far as forums go, I can only reiterate what people already mentioned in this thread. In fact, IMHO, forums are by far the worst part of GW2, and that’s coming from someone who originally came to GW2 because of the promises of epic PvP “eSports”.
Pretty much what Kharr said. Give it time and rejoice about the fact that now you can queue in odd hours and get a match in a few minutes or less.
Coming up next: Players demand that GW2 switches to a crafting system like in other MMOs because reasons.
Please get rid of this.
It cancels the stake finisher, robbing you of glory gain, monthly, and daily points.
katnus pls
One thing confused me while I was watching the stream, and that is dungeon/cultural armor prices.
For example, TA armor costs 20g in the Mists, and from what I’ve understood PvE players will be able to show their skins in PvP and vice versa.
Now, if I set obtaining TA armor as a goal, isn’t it much cheaper/quicker to farm it from dungeon instance (and earning precious gold in the process, gold that could be used for other skins for example) then spending 20g for the PvP version ?
Or an opposite example with T3 cultural armor which is only 60g in PvP and twice as much in PvE. Isn’t it obtaining PvP version a no brainer ? And if it is, will it draw farmers in ?
Am I wrong/missing something ?
Oh yeah I knew about those changes too. What i’m talking about is something major or new to make WvW more fun and less static and stale. Like perhaps a new map for actual WvW gameplay instead of some kitten you “play on while you wait to get in real WvW” or WvW only skills or kittening something. It’s kittening been well over a year and nothing good or major has been done to it.
There is a new map, a WvW map, and you can play in it whenever you want, not only when you are in queue for BLs.
There are also a ton of WvW skills implemented in the game already. To access them press WvW button and switch to first tab to view your WvW skills.
If you already knew about those and weren’t satisfied with them then maybe you should make a suggestion about how to improve them. Alternatively, feel free to make your own Guild Wars 2, with blackjack and hookers.
In my opinion the issue with Living Story is not its bi-weakly schedule. It is the lack of means for lore to be flashed out to the players.
One year since the beginning of the LS we are only starting to grasp the connection between Scarlet and Elder Dragons, and the outlines of her elaborate plans. That in itself is not a problem, in fact I’d say its quite the opposite, and if ANet managed to learn from their past mistakes, I hope that soon enough more and more people might be interested in what her next move is.
What does irk me about Scarlet (and I think this is the core issue with most of the people, whether they are aware of it or not) is that she seems to for some reason have more influence then an Elder Dragon.. The only piece of info we got on her background looks like a puff piece for the most intelligent mortal in the universe, and other then terms coerce, persuade, manipulate and bribe we have no idea how the hell did she manage to bring so many races/groups to play together and throw their lives for someone who at first sight looks like a complete lunatic.
That said, I do really enjoy the game
I just do not like the fact LS has taken up the expansion. We could have had a Cantha or new map to explore by now… but nope we have rehash “Winter’s Day” content over 4 week “Tower” content.
I rather enjoy the repeatable festivities, and surprisingly, I think most of the player base does as well.
It’d be nice if there were more new activities (and I don’t realize why they took out reapers rumble from Halloween, probably because it was unitendedly broken with some update), but still, I do like those releases.
That being said, I am speculating you will see new map(s) (and it’ll probably be in Maguma), and perhaps even a new dragon by the middle of next year.
No it isn’t worth playing. Everyone rolls builds that I neither know nor care to learn how to deal with cheese OP warriors while guardians are worst class ever and nobody rolls them.
You should uninstall.
You could ask a guildie to act as a proxy since you cannot initiate direct conversation with the guy.. And if he blocks guildie as well, well, you’ve done your best and sent him money for his trouble.. you’ve already done more then vast majority of GW2 population would do.
I’ve first seen this topic raised by forum community member. I’ve removed the biased topic title and edited some of the original message in order to increase the chance for the important part to be seen by ANet employee. Anyway, I’ll paraphrase said community member here:
“Solo/Team Arena” tab and “Server Browser” tab should change places because ALL the new players who open PvP interface will see the prior and think “oh? that’s pvp! lets give it a(or more) try”
Most of the low ranked 1-5 players i asked on tournaments didn’t even know that’s it is the ranked game, and they asked where to practice…
Switching tabs shouldn’t be hard to do, and I must agree with above users statement that new players in the game/PvP are more likely to stumble in the Solo/Team Queue arena then in public matches.
Never thought about it, but now that you’ve mentioned it it is definitely something that should be changed ASAP.
