@OP:
The entire game mode is balanced on 5v5, therefore the meta should be discussed on a team level rather then individual.
That being said, if you are constantly teamed up with/against sets of people who all think they should “carry” their team with easy cookie cutter builds that’s the issue with players, not with the meta.
The team comp you mentioned would be obliterated in mid/high level competitive play.
This thread, I like it. Another !
@Dagins:
All true, but I’m hoping that at least someone from that crowd read what I’ve wrote and thought to him/herself about changing their build to accommodate the map instead of expecting the other way round.
@limbeurt:
Never played thief in Skyhammer, but from what I’ve heard, in order to use the wire “properly” you need to get the target into combat first.
@Jae:
Try this:
Rifle/Hammer with Rampage and any three of the following: Fear Me, Dolyak Signet, Balanced Stance, Stomp and with adept traits for stance duration or signet recharge (depending on what you’ve chosen as utilities).
With this build you can have up to a minute of stability and at least 4 push backs.
IMHO, every class can make a useful Skyhammer build except ele (maybe even ele with enough stunbreaks and DPS to take out the enemy… and fast reflexes xd).
^Probably plays an engi or necro
Or a warrior, thief, ranger, guardian or mesmer.
The only class that has trouble with delivering golf shots is ele when his tornado is on cooldown.
GW2 is grindy only if you let it be a grind.
I have probably over 2000 hours invested in it and out of those maybe 20h were spent grinding stuff (mostly Deadeye during Queen’s Jubilee).
For whoever thinks the game is a grind I have two advices:
1) Ascended armor is not worth it at all, stats wise.
2) If legendaries are the only thing that attracts you to GW2, you might as well uninstall right away and save yourself a ton of regret when you finally make your legendary, figure out that you’ve spent incredible amount of time to get a shiny skin and promptly ragequit.
I’ve seen it happen a ton of times already, don’t be another victim of zoning in on a prize that will evaporate as soon as you get it.
You cannot crit Teq.
Ontopic, I’ve been doing Teq every day for the last week or so, always successful.
Even Worm came really close a couple of times, and almost every time I get a silver chest from it.
One thing I do not not understand though is the amount of those here that complain about the changes that you have done to the game. Your world changes to some extent a lot and to others the impact is very minor but enough to feel that change anytime I go to the maps that are now changed.
I think the core issue is that allot of people try to persuade devs to implement/emulate systems from their favorite games.
Here’s an anecdote: Today I talked with a friend who left GW2 for Wildstar and who is a hardcore PvEr.
We talked about pros and cons of GW2 and Wildstar, and pretty much everything he listed about Wildstar as a feature sounded to me like something I wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole (for example gear grinding through dungeon tiers for better equipment).
After a while I wanted to ask him why did he spend so much time struggling with GW2 since allot of the “features” in GW2 go against his favorite play style.
This is the same kind of attitude you can see on these forums in almost every section… Why is there no holy trinity, lack of tiered gear grinding, lack of instanced raids etc. People come from other games with their own definition of “fun” and “proper way of doing things” and they’d like to mold GW2 into it, not caring (or not being able to comprehend) that different people have different mindsets. Then they get frustrated when their suggestions are not being given attention leading to one more popular complaint: “devs never listen to us”, which was proven incorrect on so many occasions.
All that being said, there is always room for improvement, and GW2 is far from a perfect game, but before asking for a change one should ask himself if that change would fit the “spirit” of the game, and if the answer is positive give his suggestion in a concise and thought out manner. I’ve seen countless suggestions implemented from these kinds of discussions.

The reason that sPvP is so small of a population is because of the toxicity of its members. It isn’t an Anet problem (although they have stuff they need to work on), it is a community problem.
In my opinion in-game population in most of cases comes off as a bunch of whiny, self-entitled, elitist brats, and since I’m actively playing all 3 game modes I can honestly say that the attitude is the same across the entire game. Taking that into consideration and comparing popularity of PvE, WvW and PvP, I’d have to disagree with your analysis.
On top of that, other wildly successful competitive games (DotA, HALO, LoL, CS, CoD etc.) are all infamous for their toxic player base.
In conclusion I think that nastiness should be toned down, but is not the reason for low PvP population.
When arriving to the drake eggs room in Angvar’s Trove puzzle, the drake doesn’t start fires at the altars effectively blocking the progress in this guild mission.
This bug has been confirmed by several different guilds that did this mission before/during the time we were in it, on 2 different map instances.
1) I think it’s in one of the Q&A’s on forums. Dev said that because of the rewards changes they’ll have to postpone further the precursor crafting update.
I too share the opinion that we won’t see an update about this particular topic for several months at least.
2) Query wiki for “drama queen”.
I’ve bought all 3 sets of Heritage Armor during the March discount. Yesterday I’ve bought Digital Deluxe edition and was pleasantly surprised when I got to choose which one to duplicate.
Should I even bother support for a refund on one of the skins ? I’m guessing I don’t have a basis for refund, but for 400 gems I might as well ask if someone here has similar experience.
I have no idea how such a system could be implemented.
“I swear on me mum I don’t wanna bandwagon.” ?
The notice was given in advance. It could be accessed through game launcher. There is a clear warning when changing servers that you will suffer through a period during which you cannot play regular WvW.
I sympathize with your situation, I truly do, but I don’t see any way for you to be recompensed which wouldn’t at the same time result in general population being disproportionately more times hurt then you currently are.
I agree a 1000%, I came from Gunnar’s Hold and transfered to FSP. Reason for my transfer is that I was kicked from my guild “due to inactivity” and joined up a guild in FSP with ex members from a previous guild.
In no way I transfered for the seasons or to benefit from them, frankly I don’t even care about the WvW seasons.
I only log on GW2 to play WvW and it feels like getting banned, yes. For two weeks. I was able to play just fine the first 3 days on FSP and now suddenly I’m blocked out for the remainder of the matchup & next week’s matchup?
This is a fair point. However, here’s a counter argument: I’m from the same tier you are in, more precisely Gandara server. Before free server transfer was announced we were a strong contender for winning this season. After the announcement we became prime target for every server hopper out there which results in our current situation when we are completely obliterating our opposition and when by our current strength we should be placed somewhere around middle in the Gold league.
Can you imagine how many more bandwagonners we (and our opponents) would have to suffer if ANet didn’t implement any system deterrent for such people ? The amount of people that would like to abuse the system and transfers is much higher then some people may presume, our server is a living proof of that.

I’m personally doubting whether or not they’ll ever add another region (to the size of Cantha or Elona at least.) I really gave up hope when they announced that they had no plans at all for any expansions. I’m even starting to doubt if they’ll add any races or professions. Really worried that this is all due to business on NcSoft’s part. They’ve scrubbed projects in the past and I’m concerned that theyre adopting a “we can make plenty of money with things as is, why invest in expansion-size changes?” policy towards gw2. In that case, the dev’s could only work within the limits set by the corporation. In the end, Ncsoft makes the rules of the game (literally and figuratively.)
Expansion (presumably Maguma) is in works, and should be published some time next year according to NCsoft. Also, NCsoft doesn’t have much say in the way ANet manages the game, according to both NCsoft and ANet.
If you are really interested to know more about ANet/NCsoft relations, additional lore, expansion packs and what not and feel free to browse the internet, tons of relevant information is readily available.
If you took a poll or tallied what features are important to players a month ago, not a lot of the features in the big April patch would have been on there.
Which is, again, your subjective opinion.
Furthermore, as Gumball tried to point out, even if it were true, would it really prove anything ?

PvE players who are just there to karma train and get their WvW dailies done — that’ pretty much all of EoTM. So yes, massive fail.
Indeed. We all know that pr0 PvP players go to EB/BL maps for their karma train and WvW dailies. EoTM is for scrubs duh.
Watch it OP, I’m on the phone with the jelly school, mkay ?
“Missed what was really needed” because the patch doesn’t feature squad commands (something that is either being worked on or is high on priority list) ?
Calling several major system improvements/changes “fluff” content ?
You might wanna think about people who are more prone to other game types, or have different priorities/preferences then you do, OP.
And please tone down the drama.. You might get the naysayers riled up, but you won’t get any sympathy points from anyone who is not warped by their bias.
Posting here again since no reply was received for more then a week now – 464071.
Thanks in advance.
I feel that custom arenas should not offer anywhere close to team arena amounts. Yes, I understand that there is some more merit to playing Team queue, but these people are also doing ranked and in a more hardcore environment. Hotjoin is a place to understand the basics of sPvP and fun matches, but Team Arena/ Solo Queue should be the goal.
This announcement raised a red flag for me the second it left Hugh’s mouth, but for different reasons..
Now that we’ve switched to PvE rewards there is even more incentive for farmers to try and exploit the fact that custom arena win grants 75% of the reward of team arena win (meaning almost as much of a reward for potentially 0 effort).
I just hope ANet anticipated greedy human nature and that we won’t see a flood of “Custom arena farmers” threads after the patch goes live.
What is stopping anyone from calling this arena a TDM arena ? It certainly looks like that to me… Am I missing something ?
Just to be perfectly clear, this means that if I have r95 and r5 character and 2 more r0 alts I’ll have 100 points in total for all 4 of the characters (or 25 on average), correct ?
Being a genius that I am, I’ve managed to spend all of my glory on pvp mats for dye crafting… and completely forgot to buy consumable tokens.
So now I’m grasping at straws and hoping there’s an alternative way to get them and that someone here knows about it.
Feel free to point and laugh.
They mean channels in LFG.
Say what you will, but what he says about legendaries is partially true.. The will quite probably start dropping in price.
But from what I’ve read between the lines I think ANet will reduce the amount of precursor drops (maybe even remove them from the mystic toilet ? long shot tho considering it’s quite a nice gold sink) and introduce the legendary hunt thigamajig. I think the reason they postponed that system again is because of the account binding. So it’s still a win/win.. of course, if my unfounded speculations have any truth to them. ^^
C’mon, someone somewhere must have experimented enough to find recipes for some of the unique items. Speak up, don’t be afraid.
Nah, those are just the ones listed on wiki.. There’s no mention on that list of some things I’ve unlocked (of the top of my head Sickle Axe, Snake Cleaver, Sickle Blade), and allot of other things I haven’t discovered yet (kitteneaver, Bloodfang)..
I’ve started filling up my wardrobe. Done all armor sets with no issues. Then I’ve started filling up my weapons collection and realized that I got a bunch of stuff for which recipes are nowhere to be found.
For example, I’ve finished my axes collection (I think) and I have 37 weapons in it when I should have (according to wiki and all other lists I could find) at most 34 pieces.. Moving onto daggers, halfway through I already got 2 items that no lists even mention (sickle blade from bear tokens and one more I forgot)…
So, my question is, is there a more complete list of recipes available somewhere on the interwebz ?
Nicely put and made with allot of care, OP. +1
However, there are several things I disagree with. For example I’d like that player character is moved back completely and serve as a witness (or a grunt) to the events, especially considering the complexities and effort of making PC into one of the main protagonists, but I’m sure my opinion is in minority (and even devs stated they’ll strive to improve communication between PC and NPCs), so instead I’d be content if ANet put more time in exploring the ways to improve that part of LS… and fast… because those scenes in Aftermath made me literary sweat from awkwardness (partly from implementation partly because of feeling they were forced)..
As far as LS in general, I’m getting the feeling that dev team had allot of side projects working simultaneously and that, while they did know in general where they wanted to go with the story, there was allot of disconnect between releases. Granted, they did experiment allot and they did drastically improve, but I hope that teams have better communication for season 2 from the get go, which IMHO should result in much smoother presentation, less reliance on outside sources and overall better quality of the story arc.

I personally think PvP is ruining the PvE experience because a whole lot of the skill balancing is done with PvP in mind and not what PvErs have to deal with. PvP “mobs” are not huge bags of health so what does it matter if crit damage is changed or conditions are nerfed. “What’s good for PvP is good for everyone.” is not true….but I expect this sort of attitude from this part of the forums.
Both crit damage and condition damage is capped differently in PvE/WvW and PvP.
Opponents you speak of are living, breathing human beings. The reason mobs in PvE are huge bags of health is because they are dumber then a newborn child, and “trick” in defeating even the hardest ones is memorizing their telegraphs (and if you have a guardian in the group, most of the times you can just stand there and spam your rotation). Therefore they need artificial difficulty (hard hitting, huge HP) to provide at least a bit of a challenge for players.
I do however agree that AI needs to be drastically upgraded, and if/when that happens I’m sure that ANet will dispose of the ridiculous mob HP.
But then, instead of Q_Q about PvP-ers being rewarded for skill we’d have allot more complaints about PvE-ers wanting to play the game as they like and not being able to faceroll keyboard to experience entirety of content (and win), like we’ve seen oh so many times before on these forums.
EDIT: And I also agree that, in this particular situation of being terribad and not willing to improve, what’s best for PvP is definitely not the best for PvE.
(edited by Freeelancer.2860)
Only skimmed through the thread, but what I’ve seen about the changes coming in Apr 15th patch (and some others they are still thinking over about implementing), I’d say they listen quite a bit…
At least half of the stuff mentioned are something players suggested one time or the next, and most of them are not minor.

forcing someone to do something, no matter what, is still the wrong way to do it – instead she could have swallowed her pride and asked to work together – instead, like with dessa, she had to resort to threats
I agree. I’m sure if she asked politely enough he’d outright decide to change his entire view of the world. He’d also turn to helping the ones in need and spreading the teachings of Charr goddess of Love and Daisies.
That, or he’d laugh so hard that he’d die of a heart attack. Either way it’s a win-win for Kiel.
…Why didn’t she think up this master plan ?
3rd time I’m getting the same issue. Using latest Firefox.
I haven’t used up my glory boosters because reasons.
Thanks

They shouldn’t still be giving these out as rewards if we can’t use them past Tuesday.
Except, unlike you and me, some people actually used their boosters so they actually profit from new ones.
I haven’t used up my glory boosters because reasons.
Thanks Obama ANet.

I’m from Gandara (EU). After the 25% HP nerf I popped in during peak hours, got into overflow and done it right away. Might be I was just lucky (on overflow non the less), might be it was something else entirely.
Try doing the event during peak hours. Going off peak will most likely end up in failure.
If your server cannot come close even during peak hours, I’d suggest that you guest to one of the famous PvE servers (I think the most populated ones are Blackgate NA and Desolation EU).
Well kitten .
Thanks for the reply.
Nope, it was me, I bought them all to hand out to the poor needy children of Lions Arch who lost their homes when Scarlet attacked.
“Gee-whiz, thanks mister ! Now I can sleep under this massive sword that shines the light of thousand stars ! Losing my home and watching my family burn was bad but having a ridiculously sized Xmass lamp is totally better.”
Do the cultural armors bought from PvP count towards the progress for the Emperor title and associated achievements ? Thanks.

Solo’d her to ~65% in total. Thought I’d die here but got rezzed
EDIT: This happens when you are too late to the partey up tops.
Thank you for the quick reply.
Unfortunately, this feels more like a performance issue as in hardware/optimization problem. I’m not experiencing any more lag spikes, slowdowns, late responses etc. then usual.
Imagine if you downgraded your CPU/GPU, that’s the feeling I’m getting. Furthermore, I didn’t have this issue when new content rolled out, or the first patch after.
Happened after I updated the game to the newest patch (2nd hotfix for the March 4th release).
I’ve lost on average between 10 and 15 FPS since I’ve downloaded the patch. Usually the game is very playable (30 FPS+) except in biggest zergs , but now my FPS is dropping below 30 even when there is nothing going on…
Is anyone else experiencing this ? How do I find if the culprit is the patch or the issue is on my side of things ?
(edited by Freeelancer.2860)
Please don’t confuse posting on the forums with playing the game. The former is actually rather entertaining.
I was referring to former. Otherwise you’d look like a massive hypocrite. But in any case, here’s to hoping you find something more productive to do with your time.
Be glad you can at least get Tequatl down…. on Gandara it is almost always a failure. I still miss turret defender achiev so bye bye for the title which others got during the bugged easy mode period at the revampedTequatl launch.
I’m doing it between 2 and 5 times per week on Gandara, and I think in total it’s done even more times.
Try applying for DV guild, they have regular kills on Gandara.
@Allie: Thank you for making this thread. There are quite a few unanswered questions and little response so far from the developers (probably because we wanna know about things that are still in development).
I hope you will be able to answer a question that is most important to myself which is: Will we eventually be able to use PvP rank/cultural/dungeon armor skins in PvE/WvW ?
I think that OP is referring to the accepted timezones standard (GMT aka UTC). All other timezones are calculated with that timezone being the “original”, with DST being added/subtracted after the fact. That’s why one of the posters noted that Seattle time is UTC-8.
It’s a somewhat valid point that non-Americans often bring up, similarly to the ridiculous system of measurement used almost exclusively in US.
I have a similar question as the OP, but in my case I’d like to know if we’ll be able to eventually use PvP armor skins in PvE/WvW ? IIRC I’ve read that would be the case, but since there were several mechanics/goals that were changed/postponed/removed in the past I’d like to hear some sort of a confirmation for this.
Really hoping for more details from developers before March patch.
