I actually watched an ArenaNet guy try the gauntlet as a necromancer. Died to Suriel like five times before leaving. Would love to see one of them try to beat Liadri.

First of all, it has already been beaten by every class. Stated design goal was to make you change up your build if necessary, as well as push your skill level. They succeeded, OP is just mad because he or she couldn’t beat it right away. Most players are happy to see challenging content.

I don’t think that’s really applicable when certain classes can still largely faceroll their way through it. It’s just going to drive more players to those classes.

The PvE balance is broken and has been since launch. The guardian issue needs to be addressed if we’re ever going to have truly challenging content.

It just goes to show that they balance everything around guardians and don’t really give two figs about the rest of the classes. Sure it’s beatable as a necromancer or ranger. You just have to try a hundred times harder. Balance!

It would be nice if she wasn’t bugged, too. Sometimes my character won’t pick up a crystal, and more then once I’ve wasted a ticket because someone will have fought Subject 7, and there are oozes still in there….

Oh yeah, the dud crystal thing is a huge issue. There also seems to be a problem with throwing them in that sometimes the crystal will be used up but still not count despite clearly hitting her. They really need to get on tuning this fight.

I was actually looking forward to the arena and had expected some great fights and true endurance tests. What I got was a bunch of dodge to win bosses with cheap one hit kill mechanics. I get that dodge is a part of the game but can we please stop designing everything around it? Some telegraphed killshots to avoid are neat and all but when the entire boss fight is nothing but you dodging around in a circle I think it’s safe to say that we’ve got a problem.

Look, there’s a reason why fights like the Bed of Chaos are so reviled. While they are certainly difficult they are difficult for all the wrong reasons and really not a whole lot of fun to experience. Difficulty alone does not make a good boss fight. You can’t just cram a bunch of one hit kill mechanics in there and call it a day. You have to make it fair and exciting. The Liadri fight is not.

It’s impossible to make solo content that doesn’t favor one class over others, short of transforming us into quaggans with fixed stats, skills and all traits disabled …

Right. Which is why gimmick fights hamstrung by an awful camera shouldn’t be considered hardcore content. What we need is actual hardcore content. This is a joke.

But the challenge is still present and you are attempting to overcome it? How about you try one of the “favored” classes, prove you aren’t just QQing because you are unskilled and move on.

(or NOT and just move on).

Give this a read.

Too many people complain, you’ll always have it in every game. First people beg for hardcore content, then they complain about it. I rarely PvE, i’m a WvW only player but I had to try this. If you want one of the biggest challenges on GW2, well this is it.

This isn’t hardcore content. This is broken solo content which blatantly favors certain classes over others. Stop confusing fake difficulty with actual difficulty.

It’s the very definition of fake difficulty.

Bad camera, culling, AoE circles blending in with the floor, overly reliant on dodging to avoid cheap one hit kills and so on. It’s just an awful fight.

I’d like to start off by thanking whoever had the brilliant idea to host these battles right above the zerg feasting grounds full well knowing the engine limitations.

Now for the serious question. Is anything going to be done to address this issue? Currently some of your players are incapable of doing this content due to not even being able to perceive the enemy or the instant kill circles. My suggestion is to have a ten second grace period before the match starts in order to give things a chance to load in.

It an achievement. You generally get achievements for achieving something.
There are many ways to get achievements points and some of them are repeatable so why dose it matter that there are a few you might not be able to get that others can? Achievements points don’t affect your ability in combat so it’s not going to unbalance anything.

You’d have a fair point if the great achievement here wasn’t rolling the right class.

Me, I’m all for hard content. But it needs to give all the classes a fair shake. We can’t balance solo content around guardians.

Liadri is impossible. Why?

Guys I really am not trying to sound elitist or anything, but it’s a very fair boss. I know everyone has a different perceptions of what is fair and what isn’t, but can we all agree that it’s a step in the right direction to finally introduce some non-faceroll content? I would love things like the camera angles and blinding colors attack to be polished up for everyone, but it was just refreshing for once to have to fail at content continuously and working towards learning the fight completely until it could finally be finished.

I agree with alot of what you guys are saying, but even with some of it’s problems it’s still one of the better content implementations that we’ve had in a while.

The fight blatantly favors certain classes over others and is exceedingly poorly tuned overall. Cheap one hit kill mechanics, circles that blend into the floor and a shoddy camera are definitely not things I want to see more of in this game. They need to look at what made Guild Wars challenging and learn from that because this is terrible.

I respectfully disagree. This fight makes Bed of Chaos appear like a well designed fight. They really need to stop relying on cheap one hit kills for difficulty.

I mean what is the issue though with the necro on this boss?

Necromancers can’t mitigate the ridiculous damage some of these bosses put out. The class has no access to vigor, blocks or evades. You’re stuck with your two dodges and once you’re out of those you’re toast.

The class has garbage survivability.

And as a side note watching warriors and guardians telling people it’s a L2P issue is beyond hilarious. You guys have been the faceroll classes of PvE since launch and nothing has changed there.

Sadistic Developers?

Maybe they did the smart thing and just rerolled guardians.

But mechanically speaking some of these bosses are just way too difficult for certain classes. Necromancers have no ways to mitigate damage thanks to the shroud nerf and when there are so many poorly telegraphed instant kills thrown about… well, yeah, do the math. It has been almost one year since launch and PvE balance still hasn’t been addressed at all.

Mobility and Dark Path. What can be done?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

i like it as it is and necro can get mobility take worm minion and spectral walk.

The problem with wurm is that it necessitates setup. It isn’t an active ability which can be used to break away from a fight or to pursue unless you set it up prior to the fight. While it does have a place in SPvP to an extent it just doesn’t work in WvWvW where I’d argue we need escapes the most. Another issue with it is that it isn’t a true teleport like say a mesmer portal. So if an object comes between the player and the wurm it’s not going to travel the full distance. Big issue that.

I’d probably always pack wurm if it was a true teleport but as it stands I find it just as flawed as dark pact. And that’s really the crux of the issue here, no? We do have all these beautiful skills designed for mobility but they all come with crippling flaws.

Mobility and Dark Path. What can be done?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

So we all know that necromancers suffer from a lack of mobility. We’re not that great at chasing and we’re even worse at escaping. This got me thinking on why exactly Dark Path is a projectile. To me this squanders the greatest use of the ability which is the teleport. It’s just too unreliable and too easily dodgeable to be of much use as currently implemented.

Now ponder for a moment if Dark Path instead of a slow moving projectile was an instant teleport which brought the necromancer to his target kind of like how shadowstep works for thieves. Would this not effectively remedy most of our mobility issues? I realize that a change like this wouldn’t come without a price but I can’t help but think that it might be a price worth paying. Thoughts?

I’d be willing to see mesmer and thief buffs when and only when stealth is toned down and made more skill based. Right now it simply wouldn’t be fair to have mesmers be able to deal and absorb as much damage as some of the other classes. Stealth is just too potent.

Tone down stealth and then we’ll talk.

Remove the kitten ed thing and revert all these nerfs. And please give us the courtesy of discussing the balance of our class in our own class forum instead of the SPvP forum. You’re not sending the right message here by publicly executing a class so gleefully.

Unyielding Blast, Pierce to Splash

in Necromancer

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

This is by far one of my most wanted changes at the moment. The pierce is just way too situational. A splash would do wonders for our PvE viability and help us out in WvWvW too while having a minimal effect on SPvP balance. Yes, yes and yes!

This is of course assuming that the splash would be substantial which knowing Anet’s track record of balancing our class might be a bit too hopeful.

Are there actual problems from people having thousands, tens of thousands of gold at their disposal? There could be, but they aren’t immediately obvious to me.

Hoarding limited items seems like the most apparent issue to me.

While common goods do stabilize given enough time these items never do and all it takes is one market manipulator with enough bank.

No matter how much money I amass, there is not a single thing I can do to prevent you from obtaining something in game because every item in the game can be generated, either on demand or at random, at any given moment.

Now that isn’t entirely true. ArenaNet frequently releases limited items which a lot of power traders pounce upon in order to resell at a later date for ridiculous sums. Some of the flame and frost dyes went from ten gold to a hundred.

Maybe a good compromise here would be binding these limited items upon purchase from the trading post to prevent excessively wealthy players from cornering the market and leaving common goods ( which can indeed be generated whenever ) as are.

Profit does not come at the expense of anyone else, unless it is taken by force. By the way, it may be unfun for you, but don’t place your subjective interpretations of that word above everyone else’s.

I am not objecting your right to flip. What I am objecting is the fact that flipping is the only way to get ahead currently. It generates way too much gold compared to other activities and it needs to be addressed.

Every action you perform in the real world and in Guild Wars is selfish. Every action YOU perform is by your own volition, meaning YOU WANT to perform that action. If you WANT it, it’s selfish. Think about what you’re saying.

The mental gymnastics you folks will employ to justify flipping will never cease to amaze me. Truly.

Come on, we all know that the profit comes at the expense of somebody else. I don’t really have a problem with flipping itself as it’s one of the last ways of actually making money in this game but I do have a problem with flippers trying to pretend they’re doing something useful here. When you flip you do it for one reason and one reason alone and that is to make a load of gold for yourself. And hey, I don’t have a problem with that as I’ve often resorted to the very same methods when I’ve been in a tight spot.

My problem is that this is a fundamentally broken and unfun system. The most efficient way to progress shouldn’t be sitting in Lion’s Arch and playing the trading post. That is the crux of the issue and that is what needs to be rectified. It’s a far greater issue than farming.

I hate to break it to you but you’re really not adding anything of value by buying low and selling high and it’s not some kind of rocket science. We’ve all flipped at some point but I think it’s exceedingly silly to attempt to make it into something noble and useful. It’s not. That’s like asking why corn farmers are still wasting their time growing corn when they could be trading ethanol futures. The answer is that they like growing corn, they know growing corn, and they have no interest in not growing corn.

Some farmers may switch to trading, and some may add a trading portfolio to their earnings, but most farmers are going to continue to farm because they don’t have the desire or knowledge to get into the trading meta.

You’re comparing the real world of logistics to an MMO in which the middle man serves no function whatsoever. In the real world the corn grower is reliant on the middle man to get his goods to the public and the public is likewise reliant on the middle man to get the goods. It’s a symbiotic relationship. Flippers however are purely parasitic entities and I really don’t see why that should be rewarded over actually playing the game.

Surely ArenaNet didn’t intend for us all to huddle up in Lion’s Arch to progress?

Pushing or pulling (ie market manipulation) can temporarily change a limited part of the market and increase or decrease the price of that part of the market drastically. HOWEVER, the market will soon return to a ‘normal’, balanced price as soon as the reseller is done.

That only works in regards to goods with constant supply. The problem with assuming that the supply is going to stay constant is that flipping yields far higher rewards than farming and flippers are reliant on farmers to make a profit in the first place.

But why farm so flippers can reap the biggest benefit? More and more farmers will ask themselves that question.

Because you are hurting the market and subsequently other players through your selfish actions? By raising prices you are increasing the grind for buyers and making their gameplay experience less enjoyable overall.

You talk about investment, what about investment into the game? Being good at PvP and WvW nets you nothing and we’ve already discussed PvE.

That is indeed the crux of the issue here. What takes the most skill typically yields the smallest rewards. Just look at WvWvW for a good example of this. If you go around skirmishing and taking key points with a small group you’re really just hurting yourself since mindlessly zerging around in a massive group will net you far more. But I digress as that’s a topic for another thread.

Players shouldn’t be encouraged to sit in Lion’s Arch and price gouge in order to make a profit. Players should be encouraged to on grand adventures and explore the world. This needs fixing.

But read my post above? Flippers do give a service, they give a service of time for other players. They give everyone else the opportunity to buy and sell instantly, they have to have items on their hands for sometimes days at a time so it’s only fair for them to take a small fee.

If you take a shortsighted approach to things, sure.

But the end result is farmers getting less money and buyers paying more so the flipper can continue operating. Trying to pretend that you’re doing the community a service by flipping is disingenuous at best and is only going to cause more anger. And yes, I have flipped myself during a time when I needed a lot of gold quickly so I perfectly understand why people do it. That said, I’m not proud of it and neither should anyone else be.
