Here’s what’s going to happen.

The WoW progression crowd will cheer, log in, plow through the content and go back to Mists of Pandaria once their characters are fully decked out.

Meanwhile the scorned GW crowd will grow increasingly bitter with some outright quitting and others just sucking it down until they can no longer stomach it.

Now that’s how you build a healthy community.

The game has no future if you don’t have something to look forward to and the progression stops.. C’mon how do you not see it? Guildwars 1 and WOW came out around the same time. Where is guildwars 1 today and why does the other game have millions of people 8 years later.. How do you explain that? Anet is doing the right thing here. And by the way I bought the game because it didnt have set roles.. I hate the whole tank, healer, dps thing. Thats what made me buy GW2

Because it’s not like you can look forward to content if it doesn’t give you a arbitrary stat inflation at the end. That’s crazy talk.

And Guild Wars is still around to this date. That’s a lot more than what can be said for many of the WoW clones. I mean, what exactly do you think enabled Guild Wars 2’s creation if not the resounding success of its predecessor? That success was primarily achieved because ArenaNet didn’t try to imitate Blizzard. After all, who wants a cheap imitation?

This whole QQ thing is the most funniest thing Ive seen in any MMO to date and Ive played or atleast tried them all. I can’t believe how people are crying about getting new gear.
Never have I witnessed people so scared of other people wanting to progress and having different gear. Its almost like.. OMG he grinded so hard for a legendary hes an elitist! the game is broken now! c’mon people Man up, this is an MMO.

Maybe it’s because Guild Wars 2 was supposed to be different from the norm. Did you ever consider that? I don’t want an MMO. I want Guild Wars 2 and this just isn’t what we were promised. In fact, it goes completely against ArenaNet’s own vision.

We are manning up by fighting for the sake of this game’s future, to prevent it from becoming another withered husk in the shadow of World of Warcraft.

“The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”

… Well, Colin?

I think it’s too late for ArenaNet to remove this feature. It’s not many days left left for the patch and this is probably one of the major ‘’selling points’’ of this patch, I would guess.

If they remove it now, the dungeon will be totally useless, and they would probably have to remove it too.

I would be glad if they scrapped this feature, it wouldn’t bother me if the dungeon would be useless for this time being, because I don’t like at all where this is heading.

And who knows? If they remove this system now with ascended gear, how many patches in the future they got now will be totally useless because it’s all built around this one thing.

At this point they should just scrap the whole patch except for the bug fixes and revise the content entirely. If this goes through it will cause unmitigated damage to the product and they might never recover. It’s already being ridiculed on just about every single major gaming site out there.

They need to take a stand here.

Well, yeah. Problem is that they’re now blatantly catering to WoW fans over their own fans. Most of who already left GW2 for MoP. It’s asinine.

We WoW now.

Seriously, anet, remove the tiers and go back to what worked in Guild Wars. No point in even coming into WvWvW unless you’re 80 with full ascended. You messed up by trying to cater to raiders when the vast majority of your population has zero interest in raiding.

GW2 isn’t perfect but it does have its own identity in an overcrowded genre. With every change like this it just takes one more step towards being another WoW clone. I implore you, don’t let that happen. You’re better than that.

The armor pieces should have been soul bound and they should have come from doing events like the Clock Tower. Unfortunately Halloween seems to boil down to gold farming much like the rest of the game. Disappointing.

I really, really hope that anet will add some way for honest players to acquire the armor. Leaves a sour taste in your mouth knowing that the only ones who actually got it are the ones who managed to get lucky with the broken chests.

Mad King Armor - where do all the piece drop from?

in Halloween Event

Fungalfoot.7213

Nowhere right now since anet nerfed labyrinth farming. If you missed your chance to exploit it I’m afraid you’re kitten out of luck unless you’re willing to spend an absurd amount of gold buying it from farmers on the trading post.

Please be fair for everyone.

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

The big issue here is that they completely demolished the event for all the normal players because of botters and farmers. This doesn’t set a very good precedence for future events and now it’s practically impossible to obtain the full Mad King set unless you’re willing to pay the aforementioned botters and farmers for their services in gold.

Why does ArenaNet insist on rewarding people for this while kittening over everybody else?

This is seriously making me want to quit the game. This is basically the ONE day this week I didn’t get a chance to play and I missed out on half a years worth of gold. If what I’m hearing is true, I could have farmed like 100 exotics and now with the patch sold them back for almost full price a few days later… the gap between rich and poor must have jumped up many magnitudes this day. Way to go anet, your rushed updates finally screwed things up big time.

Don’t worry. With anet’s testing procedures you’ll probably get another shot as early as Christmas. That’s assuming that the economy hasn’t been thoroughly demolished by farmbots by then.

Why aren't we allowed to have nice things?

Anet: Regarding the chest in the middle of the labyrinth.

• Please change Mad King’s Armor pieces to Soulbound on Acquire, make them unable to be salvaged (similar to karma gear) and make the set drop in sequential order as people remain to continue farming the full suit.

The point of the holiday event is to collect the holiday armor, not crazy money from salvaging the gear, right?

Shoes come from the clock tower, make the other 5 pieces come from the chest in the labyrinth.

People might want to sit there making crazy profits, but ultimately, you should be consider making this a non-profit event so there isn’t as much reason for people to sit there farming it for money. This way there is a significantly lessened effect on the economy and people still get something really nice from this event.

Totally agree with this.

I don’t care about easy gold. I care about the set. Getting the slippers from the Clock Tower was extremely satisfying. Why not make the other pieces just as satisfying to acquire?

Why was the lab Champions nerfed?

so people that logged on early made a killing everyone else suffers seems legit

I got on early and ran it a few times for the event achievement. Got two worthless exotics and a bunch of greens. Then I went on to do other stuff.

Guess I should have stayed around farming all day long. Apparently that’s the only way to get anywhere. Boy, do I feel like a massive idiot for trying to enjoy the events.

casuals get kicked in the face while addicts get the haul.

remind me what gw2 was supposed to be about and ill show you what its not

Not even genuine addicts. That place was full of three ranger plus bot teams and those are the people currently raking in the big dough at the expense of everyone else. Good going, ArenaNet.

I’m extremely disappointed in anet’s loot manipulation. This is what destroyed Diablo III for a lot of players and seeing this mistake repeated in Guild Wars 2 is disheartening to say the least. The 24/7 farmers managed to farm multiple sets before the nerf and now the rest of us are told to pony up the cash if we want a chance at ever getting the full set.

Revert the nerf on the Mad King exotics and remove all other exotics from the loot table. Better yet, tie the kitten pieces to accomplishments like the slippers instead of forcing us to undergo monotonous grinding. I thought Guild Wars 2 was supposed to fix that flaw?

That’s what happens when you offer people the ability to transfer off whenever it’s convenient. Just imagine if Dark Age of Camelot had allowed Midgardians to jump over to Albion. I proposed it in a different thread and I’ll propose it here; temporarily disable WvWvW for frequent server hoppers and be done with it.

Disable WvWvW for frequent server jumpers?

What server do you play on?

A now dead one WvWvW wise which enjoyed its fair share of fair weather transfers while it was winning.

With Henge still in charge things were kind of settling as everybody interested in winning without a fight simply transferred there. Now it’s back to total chaos with completely one sided match ups in just about every single tier and it will remain that way until a new Henge rises. Then the cycle will repeat. All paid transfers will accomplish is allowing anet to benefit financially from it. Short of some serious measures I’m really not seeing much hope here.

Fungalfoot.7213

We need a penalty to dissuade this behavior and we need it fast. Nobody wants these turncoats flooding their server and inflating the queues. Subsequently I propose disabling WvWvW on accounts with a history of server jumping.

Make it scale with the first transfer coming without consequences. The second would exclude you from participating in WvWvW for a month. The third would exclude you for two months and so on and on.

I realize it might seem harsh but right now WvWvW is a complete mess and as long as transfers are inconsequential the populations will never stabilize. People will continue flocking to the winners.

Main hand dagger in PvP is worth it for dark pact alone. Immobilize is one of the most powerful conditions currently in the game. In PvE it’s extremely useful for generating life force quickly and dealing heavy single target damage but it’s usually too risky to be used in dungeons if you’re running a build focused on damage.

Minion masters are already marginalized as is. What exactly is the justification for preventing us from using our one saving grace underwater? This? Not so much. Please fix.

But beyond that, some people are just not countering the meta, which is getting so predicable my Elementalist is starting to have its way with them.

Again, there is no countering stealth specifically. You can slap down an AoE but that doesn’t do anything about the stealth. You’re basically arguing that stealth should have no direct counter to it and all I’m asking here is why. Why not have anti-stealth skills like most other MMOs do and force thieves and mesmers to actually think a bit when it comes to stealth usage?

Are mesmers and thieves ruining PvP?

in PvP

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

The problem is rather that the overpowered state of stealth enables those glass cannon builds with zero investment in actual survivability and teaches thieves to play poorly since they’ve always got stealth to fall back on. If stealth was fixed and given actual counters ArenaNet could start working on making more thief builds viable but as long as it remains this ultimate defense without a direct counter the nerfs will keep piling on.

Hunter’s shot for example could easily be revamped into disabling stealth for its duration. With actual counters stealth will stop being this huge issue and we can start addressing class balance on a more serious level.

in Necromancer

Fungalfoot.7213

I actually love how necromancer plays on a basic level but we’re overbalanced and our traits don’t sync at all. As a class we’re excruciatingly painfully split between power and condition and yet we can’t afford to hybridize since our damage is so piddly. We also have no decent source of stability unless we trait heavily into shroud. Oh and life leech is completely useless even if you pick up all the relevant traits.

Why do you say that death shroud necessitates power? Life force if anything would be more linked to toughness, as that’s the only one that is useful regardless of how you use your life force.

Because offensively speaking death shroud does peanuts unless you’ve got some power behind it. Of course, all our damage is peanuts comparatively speaking but still. What little we have counts all the more.

Note that there are a good number of CC skills that are no-target skills, which can knock down a stealth target causing them to ruin the defense of theirs stealth as well.

You’d have a valid point if it knocked them out of stealth which it by all means should.

And yet it doesn’t. Using stealth currently requires zero intelligence since there is no counter to the stealth itself. I’d love to see certain skills be revamped into anti-stealth skills.

Here’s what I think.

Spite – Precision/Critical Damage
Curses – Condition Damage/Condition Duration
Death Magic Toughness/Boon Duration
Blood Magic Vitality/Healing Power
Soul Reaping – Power/Life Force

As death shroud kind of necessitates power in order to be effective it makes sense to pair the two, no?

Fungalfoot.7213

No, they don’t.

What ruins PvP is stealth. It’s just way too powerful as things stand. There’s no point in these guys bothering with survivability since they can just stealth and effectively prevent any kind of damage which isn’t AoE based. I’m really disappointed in ArenaNet for implementing this broken version of stealth after having successfully avoided it for the original Guild War’s entire lifespan. This is not a good mechanic no matter how you look at it.

I’m sure it will get revamped eventually but the question is it will be a matter of too lite, too late.

Downed state is ok. But in sPvP all professions need to have the same Skill Set

in PvP

Posted by: Fungalfoot.7213

Fungalfoot.7213

Downed state is a hilariously broken mess right now. Even if you manage to beat a thief or a mesmer their overpowered downstates will allow them to keep you at bay for far too long. Meanwhile they can simply stealth stomp you to death without you being able to do anything unless you’ve got a convenient AoE interrupt. Lucky guardians. Of course, you could simply roll a thief or a mesmer to avoid the issue entirely.

If you’re too lazy to rework the system just remove it.

Damage isn’t the problem with thieves. Stealth is. It’s basically the ultimate defense which allows them all to roll as glass cannons. Remove their stealth and you remove the viability of these builds entirely.

Stealth needs a major revamp if not outright removal.
