There is a simple answer to this: introduce a gemstore item which resets the stat allocation on ascended gear, allowing you to choose a new set.
This would destroy any runes, sigils and non-crafted agony infusions (crafted AR blobs would simply be removed from the item and placed in your inventory) as a new item is created.
Encounter-specific ascended drops such as tequatls’ hoard and triple trouble cannot be reset (not sure about this).
No-one has mentioned that ascended gear is account-bound, so that zerkers’ greatsword u made for ur guardian can be banked and used on ur ranger.
Ur engi won’t see much love from asc gear (due to the other classes you play), but off the top of my head if u made any one of these: staff, sceptre, focus, sword, greatsword, axe, warhorn, trident, spear, shield, at least two of ur chars could use it.
Make it a beam attack like mesmer GS…
Isn’t there some trait that buffs our toughness while channeling? And isn’t there another one which turns a % of our toughness into power? I seem to remember something like that a while back concerning the viability of an axw/ x dagger/x build.
@kodesh- no, no and no. Sceptre aa used to give confusion but that was apparently op so they removed it. Sceptre was always meant to be a condi-weapon with clone generation which is why it generates a clone even on its power-based attack. All sceptre aa needs is faster completion time (0.75-0.75-1sec) and/or slightly higher damage on each part of the chain to make it competitive with say necro sceptre. The 3rd part of the aa is just agonising due to the cast time.
wht is all the z/r z/s a/r stuff?
Thing is, coulter- we invest points into those traits because we expect them to work as stated. By on-death clone traits being emasculated, any build which invests into them is also neutered.
I think this is the first time that a passive, uncontrollable series of traits can be nullified by any class, essentially removing trait points from those builds which took them.
@caedmon- i said PALACE guard^^ and although the shoulders are smaller than some sets, they are still disproportionately large compared to the rest of the outfit. It works as a ceremonial armour because you can see it’s non-functional, but that overdone queen-elizabeth frill behind the neck? Yuck.
The size of your wallet is all that matters in this game.
I like the tick-box system we have at the minute. It’s clean, simple and you can choose (and see your choices and your progress in them) which achievements to go for.
Dagger is hitting 2 targets on its auto-attack, 3/5 of it’s skills will still be single-target; god forbid they give us a proper cleaving weapon…
If anything it should be axe which hits 3 targets on it’s AA and 5 with its’ other two skills.
I can’t stand this outfit at all. It’s way over the top and looks ridiculous. Far too frilly, persistent problem with the massive pauldrons, suitable for RP’ers and ppl who want to look like a palace guard npc. The assassins’ outfit i would consider buying, but ONLY because they released Belindas’ gs which matches it perfectly.
Why should you expect to swap places with a non-existant clone? Summon it and swap instantly, frenzy away then do whatever. These are not nerfs, they are bug-fixes.
The times of the new rotations of world bosses are really confusing for those of us who do not use UTC, PST or PDT. Can someone please tell me which column to use, as people are turning up for events (notably karka queen) and it doesn’t spawn. This is using a timezone converter with the published UTC times, as currently PST is not in use(it’s PDT) but ANet have listed the times in PST- what am i supposed to believe?
TA armour does glow. I’ll edit in some screenies later.
Edit: i’m wrong ^^ only the light armour has any appreciable glow, which seems absurd.
(edited by Funky.4861)
I would love for the t2 light armour to glow. I wanna be a tree-pixie!
I’d be against merging field types- it kills diversity. In your examples, the poison field elongates the poison duration of the skill (blast has a different effect unachieveable by blasting into any other type of field) and you eliminate the dark fields’ lifeleech when you merged it with the smoke field completely for some unknown reason.
As i spend a lot of time soloing in pve i extensively use fields because of their additional damage and effects; they are very helpful for tagging enemies to get event credit, considering that most of the world events are now zerged to death due to their set times.
Confusion does no damage if you don’t use a skill; it’s not a DoT.
C-C-C-Combo Breaker- Make Guardians’ hammer AA #3 a fire field.
Another one: Make Guardians’ symbol of swiftness a lightning field.
This would be fun: change a couple of the necro wells to smoke fields instead of dark…
On Topic:
When i bought gw2 i also bought the hardback guide. This listed (amongst lots of useful stuff for a newb) the combo fields and all of the effects of each type of finisher in each field. That one page made me want to use combo fields as much as possible, both my own and others’. If i had not bought the guide i would have randomly seen the effect, wondered how to replicate it, wondered how useful it was and probably not have given any more thought to combo fields.
What would be a good way for combo fields to be prioritised?
Given such a diversity of variables, i think that prioritising my own fields (as i understand it- for my character only) gives the most control to a player. This could be organised by a tab in the hero panel or in-game menu (like F11 for example) listing each type of field. We would then have the options to choose ‘Own Fields’ or make our own list from a tick-box table where we could numerically choose say 5 or 6 out of all the available options; the ones left unticked would operate under the current system. This way we could adjust our priorities when out of combat, preparing for certain encounters etc.
Ps: +1 for the suggestions of rabidsmiles and Lostwingman.
I know there are a few posts in other threads about this, but i thought it would be better to make a fresh and simple topic for claritys’ sake.
The problem is that certain traits are unlocked if you complete either the defend event or attack event (grenth, risen wizard, melandru). With the Temple of Lyssa events, if you complete the defend event you do not unlock the trait.
I have spent several hours of my life waiting for this event to spawn only for people to complete the defend event and wonder why we are annoyed with them, despite politely asking in mapchat and local chat to fail it and explaining why. Sometimes pm’ing works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Anet, you need to be consistent here because i’ve lost count of how many times i’ve (and many others) waited for this event only for stupid people to deny me the GM trait unlock. If you make the defend lyssa event also reward the GM trait unlock i would be quite happy as i can only get the chest once per day anyway, and the ONLY REASON i’m doing this is for the trait. I do not want to lame-out and just buy the trait, that’s cheap and lazy for someone with several 80 chars.
Also, when i view Malchors’ Leap from another map i can see that lyssa is contested, so i port in and find out that, on the megaserver i get dumped into, it’s been done and i have to wait…again and again…
First world problems, eh? ^^
So i was logged into southsun, one minute before the karka queen spawns and my client disconnects. On ‘my’ megaserver, all the events are done so she will spawn instantly. However, when i log back in i’m dumped onto a nameless overflow with 0 events done and like 1 person who replies to me on map chat. Consequently i miss the event because ‘my’ megaserver is capped and i can’t get back in, and the event is doomed to fail on the server i logged to because of insufficient people.
The only reason i was in southsun was for the Karka queen GM trait unlock, and now i have to wait another 5 or so hours for another chance.
Is there any chance that a megaserver can remember the players logged into it so that if the client disconnects, they are returned to the same server upon login? This completely wasted my time and those who ended-up in the same situation.
Replies of ‘deal with it’ are unwelcome. Posted in the heat of the moment
So the client froze during the marionette. I assumed it was my ’net connection so i rebooted the router and joined my party in gandara. The event finished and i was ported up with everyone else but there was no loot chest, either on the ground or as the daily achievement. I took a screenshot but have no idea what section it comes under to report it, so here i am.
Does anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: This happened twice last night, both after phase 2 (the platform). On the first occasion the client simply froze- upon login i was in an overflow, but joined my party on Gandara and finished the event. However no event credit at all, which makes me think this is a ‘feature’ to stop ppl joining the event late and getting the rewards. The second time a lot of ppl also d/c during the event but managed to finish it and still got zero credit.

Gandara (EU) server takes down the marionette pretty much every time, tho if u want to guest to it u need to be there 45 mins- an hour before the event starts.
Commanders are not needed for pve content. Leadership is needed for some content but just having a blue tag will not get you my attention- common sense and a helpful attitude will.
Pve’rs generally don’t know abt commander-specific tools; why should they? It’s a bit much of you to expect that tbh. For example- i joined a squad a couple of nights ago for the mari event. As i was in a squad (just like any other party) i expected to see all the other squad members and to have the squad chat channel in effect; the fact that neither of those things happened made the whole squad thing seem pointless so i just left.
I also think it’s condescending of you to say that most pve’rs don’t know about might-stacking and combo-fields as it’s highly dependent on the class and content they play; good luck getting any mesmer, thief or necro to might-stack…
PVE is very much up to the individual as to how they play the game, and unless they do dungeons or fractals, most pve’rs don’t wander around the map in a party unless they are farming, further reducing the need to stack might. For me, the final nail in the might-stacking coffin is that it only hits 5 people; any more than that and u either get some, all or none at all, making the whole process a gamble (read: waste of time if u get no might).
So when i’m on my guardian i hit staff #4 every time i go into the portal for marionette, not to stack might to my group but to buff ppl a little as they run past- ppl aren’t gonna hang around for might-stacking during an event with such a high chance of failure.
TLDR; in pve i don’t want to be told what to do, where to go etc. unless i’m doing an event which requires a team. It’s unrealistic to expect features used in one game mode to be understood in another which has no need of them.
@ phys: i’m sorry to hear that ur main server seems to be as unreliable as an overflow- are they concentrating on the wurm first maybe?
On Gandara, we take down the marionette pretty much every time now and i know ppl guest to us just to get it done ( i think they guest to other successful servers too, like deso).
I’ve actually never really been bothered about scarlets’ character/motivations as she was obviously awaiting a reveal of some sort. In her secret lair, the reveal has started and i’m pretty stoked as to how it will pan out.
Someone in the thread keeps saying that u can port to lornar’s pass 5 mins before the event starts and you’ll be fine; well i can categorically state that if you try that on Gandara you will be in an overflow which will most likely fail. On Gandara, you have to be on the map at least 30-40 mins before the countdown or you won’t make it unless some poor sod disconnects. I suspect it’s like this for all high-pop servers which defeat the marionette as a matter of course.
When i’ve done the marionette once, i will just stay on the map to get more achievements until i’m out of time for the night or done. Then i’ll likely do it once a day for the loot chest.
This means i do my daily, jp’s, etc before the marionette to get them out of the way because i know Mari will eat the rest of my evening. Again i ask- is this really what Anet wants from it’s players?
@ Smooth: of all the overflows i landed on, only 1 had the event and that was the one i d/c from. I’m talking in excess of 10 attempts (hitting the same o’flow a couple of times). This is a huge problem for lots of people. Does anet really want their high-pop playerbase squatting in a map all day just to be assured a spot for the event?
Anet needs to do something to sort out this overflow problem asap.
I’m from Gandara (hi-pop, EU) and i have only completed this event once on my home server- every attempt on an overflow has been a fail.
Tonight i tried porting into the map abt 40 mins before it’s due to start but just hit o’flow after o’flow. I decided to stick with the o’flow i was on after the 10th attempt and we organised. The fight started, and so did the lag. I d/c’d and ended up on an overflow with no event so i hopped into and out of spvp trying to get into the o’flow which had started but no luck. I eventually ended on an overflow where the event failed cos i saw the bodies everywhere, so that was basically an hour of my gametime spent trying to actually ACCESS the content. I can’t even rely on the daily to push the meta event forward because u actually have to do the event for it to count.
I could tolerate the first couple of weeks after the Teq revamp because i knew it was permanent; in 2 weeks’ time this will be gone.
There’s nothing wrong with the event itself (imo) but if i can’t play it at all on my native server that is a problem. I have only managed to play it once on Gandara since the patch went live; if overflows were able to do the event it would not be such a problem, but every o’flow i’ve been thrust into has failed, which is a complete waste of my time.
All Anet need to do is raise the server population cap for those maps with this kind of event, then we wouldn’t get split up and spewed into different overflows with no hope of joining our home server. We wouldn’t need to bother with raids, instances and all the baggage that goes with them if we could all play the content as designed on our native server.
Only a male sylvari (or asura) could be crowned Queen of Tyria ^^
I’d quite happily repeatedly kill tybalt and forgal, sieran less so, because they are much too lacking in emotional involvement. Tybalt is a clumsy dimwit and forgal is far too stand-offish and gruff to like. Sieran is just happily annoying.
Actually Jorun’s first post could be summed up by “kittenl2p noob” as his opening line is dripping with derision. Impact’s reply however was factual and non-aggressive and i learned more from impacts’ posts than any of joruns’ because jorun got emotionally involved and overlooked some of the details in his skill list. I’m not an Impact fan nor a jorun hater but those are the facts.
Anyway, OT: I have little experience in wvw (which is what this thread is obviously about) but even so i’m not fazed at all if a warrior can cover more distance than me as long as it’s running away from me. The warrior can run as fast and as long as they want because thief has superior mobility, which is more important in combat.
I am so glad about this change. Finally there might be an end in sight to the zerk-only player-enforced requirements for dungeons. If you didn’t see this coming, oh well…
Why go to LA to use the forge when u can pop to Mists (spvp) for free from anywhere?
Anet need to stop doing things which favour only one part of their customer base. Despite its’ country of origin, GW2 is an MMO- not an american-exclusive game and by doing US-only ‘sweepstakes’ Anet is generating a bitter taste for players in every region which cannot participate.
I got it over 3 tries. I did know the telegraph for the shockwave (and got hit by it a couple of times) but it really did not seem to reliably count the times when it was correctly jumped. It’s quite possible i was jumping too early.
Only harvest enough soft wood to get you to the next tier of crafting mats. Any you harvest after that can be sold to get the best of both worlds.
Active gameplay says: ele, thief or mesmer to me. I have guard, necro, mes and thief and can tell u right now that thief isn’t too bad for aoe dmg (with shortbow) but is really squishy. Plus their sword/x set just got demolished due to the change on sword #2.
Mesmer is hard up to lvl 40 when u get ur master traits. I still enjoy my mes- a very durable class.
TBH, what you’re looking for sounds like warrior or guard.
This is prob the most reliable site for crafting guides:
The cheapest way to get to 500 will involve a crafting booster and some luck
AFAIK u don’t need to be 500 to craft the whisperblade, so that might influence ur decision.
Well, i retract my disappointment. Opening the gift gave me 3 temp potions AND the frame, though i took screenies throughout!
not yet, i might as well tho…
So, like many others i had 2 frames, 200 cogs in my bank from last year. I thought i’d make endless tonics from the frames so i bought the wads and glue from TP. Into the forge they go with a glittering dust and i got…ONLY a small wintersday present. I didn’t get the frame back so i can’t try again. I wouldn’t have minded losing the dust, wads and glue but i’m completely stuffed cos it ate my frame -.-
The only reason i attempted it is because the items fit into the forge, which tells me that the recipe works. BUT the forge returned the frame on an unsuccessful attempt last year.
ANET, if you’re going to disable or substantially change a recipe could you let us know? I can’t even submit a bug report (not sure if this would come under crafting category) and i didn’t think to take screenies of before and after. I suppose it’s too much to ask for the toy soldier frame back?
I’ve done this event several times now and still have zero count for shockwave jumping. I’ve tried spamming jump, i’ve tried keeping my distance and jumping, i guess next i’ll try standing on top of it and spamming jump whilst hoping not to die to poison. Most people who have done the event also report zero count for jumping. Yesterday I gave up in disgust and did the un-bugged toxic alchemist achieve instead.
Perhaps i’ll have to give up completely on this achievement- i’m not willing to camp this event when previous efforts have a cumulative total of 0.
@ nenthil: pvp has it’s own currencies (badges and glory) so you can use them to buy pretty much whatever you want, or convert them into gold if needed. Instead, we have pve players doing a pvp-exclusive move for absolutely no benefit at all. After the 200th Toxic Assassin, ‘Finish Them!’ is at best tedious. You also have 2 other game modes to ‘show off’ your finishers which serve no purpose in pve whatsoever.
Females have had ‘a little spotlight’ for about a year now. Time to recover the balance, and not with ridiculously overstereotyped and one dimensional chars like Logan, Forgal and Rytlock.
I think anet went overboard giving ‘Finish Them!’ to absolutely every nightmare court enemy. Can you imagine how annoying this would have been during the flame and frost alliance if u had to ‘finish’ every single charr? It’s not like they are in any way special or noteworthy; they are just mobs with no personalities.
I didn’t realise just how OP warriors really were, never having played one or pvp/ wvw much. This really makes me wonder why other classes even exist.
Well, i do believe that all on-(insert skill activation) should work as programmed so hopefully the warr trait will see a fix. Two 7-condi-wiping heal skills…omg…even necros don’t get that (supposedly the go-to condi-class).
I’m saying that most classes don’t have a skill/trait set up which remove 7 or 8 conditions and heals at the same time. Don’t u think that’s a little OP?
