I find it really odd to use a wvw finishing move in pve. After all, in wvw it’s an actual player ur finishing so it has a smidge of significance but in pve, mobs are not normally anything special or unique. It feels out of place and i can’t help but think that anet are tying to bring the 2 game modes closer together.

Oh, maybe because their loot is not shared from one mob kill to all players who tagged it? Perhaps they don’t encourage co-operative play as much as gw2 does?

I did the champ train in queensdale and found the troll, boar, oak and wasp can all be corrupted (probably the spider too). There are also 2 toxic spore events which often have appropriate mobs. I have 10 of 25 spore creatures done already and it’s not even a whole day in the event.

Zerging is a player problem and has nothing to do with ANET. Players will find the path of least resistance and use it to the max; this happens all the time in every situation. We, the players have created this problem ourselves (content locusts).

Use a staff as ur main weapon, sceptre/sword or sword/pistol as ur swap set and choose decoy as ur first utility followed by nullfield and probably blink. Mirror images is also very handy to get an early shatter on a mob. Keep your distance as you attack, shatter when u can (but try to let phantasms get an attack off first ^^) and aim primarily for power stat gear.

Anything which boosts ur damage will also tend to boost ur survivability as you will be exposed to danger for shorter periods of time. In the early stages, sigil of precision is better than bloodlust as it scales differently and raises your crit rate a lot compared to the attack gain from bloodlust (this is especially noticeable if u take the 15 trait in duelling- sharper images).

Don’t overlook food etc as they can provide a cheap boost.

Apart from that, just try to stay alive/ one step ahead of the enemy ^^

P.s. at 40, it gets better.

Medium armour is by far the best, light is…hmmm (nasty mask and jester legs, ewww) and heavy would be ok if it didn’t have the TOAT (Tiara-On-A-Toilet) helm and the dodgy breastplate which makes any char look instantly middle-aged.

OP: if you’re fed-up clicking the essences to consume them, i would suggest you take the artificer craft which can condense all essences into exotic tier which is far less clicking. I think artificer gets to upgrade the essences at entry level so you don’t even need to level the craft.

As for when to stop salvaging? I’d stop at 270% and use MF food, or 250 and use food+banners.

I’m tired of getting into overflow, overflow, overflow then fail, fail, fail. I have 3/10 for this event and without beating teq even once i have no chance at progression. This is compounded by the overflow problem. At the minute, i am camping sparkfly fen on my home server with over an hour to go, just so i have a chance at doing it in a vaguely organised manner.

Is this really what ANET wants? How can they have an event like this (requiring lots of people, coordination etc) and not increase the map size to compensate for the inevitable login rush as most of the server tries to get the LS achievements?

I actually don’t have much hope of finishing this event as my expectations have been hammered into the ground.

They said in the patch notes that crafting exp would be redistributed, so that 0-500 gives 10 levels instead of 0-400. Which would make sense were it not for the fanatical grind required and time-gatedness of 400-500…

NEW FEATURES AND CONTENT
Changes to Crafting
Crafting experience for all disciplines has been updated to accommodate leveling to a rating of 500. As part of this, the total amount of leveling experience that comes from leveling a crafting discipline now requires leveling all the way to a rating of 500.

Edit: cooking doesn’t have ascended level yet, along with any of the armoursmithing crafts or jeweller (afaik) so you can’t 10 char levels anymore through any of these crafts.

The awkward thing is, we know that DS hp is %based relative to our actual hp. If we now take enough dmg to knock us out of DS, is it safe to assume that some hits will one-hit KO us regardless of DS? In which case, DS is only for gimmicky LF+torment and a couple of might stacks.

This issue and indeed thread would not exist if ANet had not nerfed other farmspots so hard that people moved away from them to something less timewasting. If there was no need to farm (t6 mats or lodestones, for example) this would also not be an issue.

Some people enjoy farming as an activity in itself rather than as a means to acquire mats etc; fractals and dungeons are nothing but pure farms if you want the associated gear, though people generally tend not to think that way about them.

I suspect that, were it not for farmers (and some may add, bots) there would be a much reduced supply of many items on the TP.

TLDR: This issue is a direct consequence of ANets’ nerfing of popular farming locations and the requirement to farm materials for craftable items.

Why no /inspect ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Funky.4861

Funky.4861

@ scrambles: i’ve been keeping up with the thread since the first post and two points i have made you have completely ignored- pve is a different game-mode to pvp and that there is no economic pressure to re-gear in pvp but there is in pve.

So i had a look at the oldest pages of the suggestions sub-forum and gave up looking for a single thread ‘since the game started’ that we should have a /inspect function in any area of the game, after 20 pages. That was 8 months ago.

It’s as simple as this: there has never been any need for /inspect, since the game launched, because we can ping our gear. Gear pinging has not replaced /inspect, it has always been a feature. Thing is, it’s voluntary- and you want to take that away.

The devs recently implemented spectator mode for Spvp (which is a unique game mode in that there is no currency to buy gear with stats- you can choose more-or-less whatever you want for free) because spectators are in the dark about Spvp stats as they are not tied to the appearance of gear. This does not apply to any other aspect of the game, generally because every other aspect is not ‘pvp’, but player co-operative. If you want players to co-operate, you don’t let them judge each other easily.

The appearance of gear is linked to its’ stats unless it’s transmuted. You don’t just choose a set of CoF gear from a pve locker- you have to work for that combination of appearance and stats. You choose a build and invest your time and in-game/RL money to get the gear for it- there is economic pressure directly related to both your appearance and your stats.

There is enough community-driven pidgeon-holing of gear to professions as it is without /inspect, and if i’m having immense fun running a build i don’t want some random Joe asking why i’m using RST gear instead of MNO; i don’t think the GW2 community is mature enough to be tolerant of infrequently-used gear sets or combinations. Peer-pressure to conform to the so-called ‘optimal builds’ will kill a lot of the fun of experimentation for those of us non-leets who like to dabble every now and again and not be preached at by those who think they know better. No, i don’t fear ridicule or exclusion at all (i’m confident enough to handle people who try that) but i know it will happen and many players will not be expecting to be pointed at and laughed about in map chat.

Don’t kid yourself, /inspect in pve is ripe for abuse and i suspect the number of players reported for ‘verbal’ abuse would rise sharply if it was ever implemented.

Why no /inspect ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Funky.4861

Funky.4861

I’d still like to know why we’re even having this discussion when there has not been a hint about implementing it from the devs. It’s complete speculation and if the devs wanted it in the game, it would already be here.

The fact is, they introduced it for Spvp only as a means for spectators to have a more in-depth experience instead of having to guess what the players are using, where stats come from runes/trinkets, not gear.

Re-gearing costs nothing in Spvp but this is not the case for every other game mode; hence /inspect has no economic pressure there. However, if you are hassled for using a combo of gear/trinkets that is less than the comunally-accepted norm for your profession are you telling me that you will feel no pressure to re-gear just to shut them up? If you have to explain yourself over and over and over again to people how long will it take for you to just buy/make a cookie-cutter gear? Re-gearing is not cheap if it’s your first character; you can’t even keep a new character in-gear from regular play alone- you have to farm dungeons/events/meta-events/the TP as soon as you can to start to make money. This is the death of build variety, and that is what the devs want to avoid at all costs.

/inspect has no worthwhile function in pve outside of passing judgement/uninvited criticism on other players, and who likes being judged completely at random by a total stranger? /inspect offers us nothing that we can’t already do, apart from the opportunity to gawp at people without their consent. I don’t mind a cosmetic-only version, but pinging your gear already says if it’s transmuted or not.

If it ever is implemented for pve (and by extension wvw) then it should be off by default; that way i don’t have to tick a box every time i log in.

Why no /inspect ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Funky.4861

Funky.4861

The reason there is no /inspect feature in pve is because it is co-operative.

Players are encouraged to work together to achieve a common goal, not exclude one another based on perceived bad gear or skill choices. How hard is it to suggest the use of certain skills/utilities, or that a player might feel they get more out of their profession if they used some XYZ-stat gear?

God forbid that we actually have to communicate with someone instead of /inspect and denying them content just because of our own preconceptions.

/inspect has no place in pve when it is so easy to ping gear and type traits anyway; the choice lies with the player being asked- long may it remain so.

Just because someone whom I’ve never met and will never meet has a personal problem which is wholly and completely unrelated to me in any fashion does not mean that they automatically have some sort of right to my time, my effort, or anything from me. Maybe they have a serious psychological issue. Then they should discuss with their psychiatrist whether or not they should be playing Guild Wars 2. Their behavior is harming people around them, and they need to take responsibility for their actions.”

So is this going to be a pvp/wvw thing, cos boon hate in pve doesn’t make sense at all. Esp on my guard, who actually can’t help giving boons through symbols (unless they want guards to run with sceptre and sword as their only main-hand weapon choices).

I actually don’t see what all the fuss is about with the current system; just nerf boon-duration consumables or limit max boon duration to something like 30 secs or a minute. Perhaps it’s because i play boon-stripping classes also that it’s not an issue for me at all.

Tried p2 last night with some guildies and gave up after an hour and a half of just ghosteater. We can do the co-ordination to charge the traps but i believe we didn’t think far enough ahead. It definately needs a full team. Some kind of VOIP is also a good thing (saves time typing). I suggested several times to have 1 person call target and others on trap duty. In hindsight, i should have gone further to say have the team split to 1 target duty, 2×2 on trap duty to fill 2 traps at the same time. When GE loses his shield ofc all dps, when he regains it drag him over to the 2nd charged trap, BUT 3 dps and 2 peel off to charge the 3rd trap. This would prob have to be repeated. Is there a better/more straightforward way of doing it?

Meret has it. Blue and yellow are not complementary.

Bearing in mind that anyone can edit the wiki, i’d go so far as to say that goethe’s model is incorrect, as the definition of ‘complementary colours’ necessitates one primary and one secondary colour, and neither purple nor green are primary colours.

It’s probably because blue and yellow are not complementary colours, and depending on the hues can look very cold (people generally prefer warm colours). Personally i don’t like blue and yellow as a combination much, tho dark blue and gold are passable.

Hi folks.

So today i checked the dragon timer before i logged in and i had some time to kill before Teqatl. Did my daily gatherer in straits and ported back for teq. It eventually spawned and as usual there was a lot of ppl there. Due to the games’ memory leak problem i d/c shortly into the fight. That’s happened before, ‘no problem’ i think. When i restarted the client and logged into my character, i was taken to sparkfly fen OVERFLOW server and completely missed the event on my home server, along with several others.

I don’t have all day to play and these meta-events do not spawn every 10 minutes- i was cheated out of this event by an influx of guests. Aside from buying a new comp, is there anything at all i can do to prevent this happening again? What if i d/c and get booted out of nearly every major event on my own server because of these ‘guests’?

The ‘2 dailies per day’ brigade seem to forget that USA is not the whole world, and that timezones restrict EU server players to daily= 1 day. We don’t have that nice option of doing 2 dailies today and chilling out tomorrow. If the daily conveniently reset at 7pm for me i’d be well chuffed, instead of a reset at midnight when i’m asleep.

I wouldn’t object to having the option of doing 3 dailies’ worth of tasks in 1 day- it would probably become tedious but if i could condense a weeks’ worth of dailies into 2 days of activities i can see the appeal for those with odd schedules.

My opinion about mesmer weapons

Posted by: Funky.4861

Funky.4861

Actually, as bizarre as this may sound, i know where he’s coming from. There are things on my necro that i wouldn’t attempt on my mes, mostly due to lack of aoe. I doubt i am a good necro player, but since i traited a bit into on-DS traits it feels stronger than my mes (both rare-geared) as it takes less dmg and kills mobs faster. Thing is, mesmer takes more player skill to play, it’s a much more active/cd awareness class than necro likely because we have effects tied to our illusions. It has a higher level of micro-management than the necro. On the other hand, i won’t go to southsun on my necro as he has no reflects/blocks. Apples and oranges?

You are a dev , now what would you do to ds ?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Funky.4861

Funky.4861

Icarus, if DS is not a 2nd HP bar then what is it? It absorbs damage and is replenishable, just like our normal hp- just because we can trait for some nice tricks on entry and exit and tolerate a massive damage nerf with situational utility doesn’t mean it’s not just a glorified HP bar.

Things i would change:

DS replaces our weapon skills with its own revamped skills as below; our UI acquires a translucent green hue around the edges which turns to black as LF reaches zero. Our utilities are visible but not useable. Any healing we receive gives LF instead of HP. DS degenerates as it does currently.

DS 1: Becomes either a 20% chance projectile finisher or a ranged attack (like the axe skills). Its cast time is reduced by 25% and it applies 1 sec of poison. If it’s a projectile, it’s travel speed is either doubled or it homes in on the target.

DS 2: Dark path becomes ground-targettable and instant effect. It retains the same range and debuffs it currently has and strips 1 boon if aimed at an enemy.

DS 3: Dooms’ fear duration is doubled (2sec) and cd increased by 25%. It applies 5 stacks of vulnerability (8 secs) when it ends.

DS 4: Applies either cripple or chill (1 sec) to each target it hits.

DS 5: Veiled Vengeance. 0.5 sec cast, 10 sec duration, 60 sec cd. Creates an aura which absorbs attacks and grants 5 sec of stability to the necro. Alternatively it absorbs attacks and dazes foes when they attack (5 sec duration). The 30 soul reaping trait thus freed can become something more useful like a reflecting shield. Not sure on the ‘absorbing attacks’ part- basically i want some kind of decent, traitless stability so that necros can stomp and generally not be a plastic bag on a windy day; damage mitigation is included due to the long cd.

Even though i studied latin at school, had i not become a gardener i wouldn’t have had a clue what those terms meant. To say they are “derived from latin words just like many other english words” is only partially true. “Decimate” is a commonly used english word derived from latin (even though its’ meaning has changed a bit) but if you were to walk down any high street in England you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who knew what ‘alate’ meant (maybe that’s the poor education system ^^).

Good DS-centric builds?

I found myself hardly using DS at all so i decided to spec for it to force/encourage me to use it more.

I took 10/30/10/10/10 using a sceptre (sigil gives acc stack) and swap between the 2 30 curses traits when i use another weapon. Iirc, traits are reapers might (might on life blast) weakening shroud/haemophilia, focussed rituals (well use ground-targetting), greater marks (usually) mark of evasion (mark of blood on dodge) and vital persistance (LF drains slower in DS). With sceptre/dagger having a stackable weakening shroud is fun.

One thing i noticed though is that we can’t ‘tap’ DS like we used to be able to- it goes into it’s full CD when u exit it no matter what, which slightly annoys me, but never mind. I’m having quite a bit of fun in pve with this build atm.

why are mesmers so weak early on?

Short answer: yes, playing warrior and thief spoiled you- they have the highest dps/effort required ratio in the game. I’m not saying that other classes can’t achieve similar dps, but that it takes more effort.
