Now that devs are actively looking on PvP topics and i see loads of pretty good things coming, what about Skyhammer farm? Won’t it affect the new reward system? Will hotjoin ever be nerfed properly?

Just to confirm, we are working on new maps. I can’t give too many details, but a few things:

1) We’re trying maps with no cap points.
2) We’re trying mechanics that focus on high risk/reward mechanics that can win to sudden wins/sudden losses.
3) We’re trying maps that focus on “big play” moments that permanently impact the map flow/map status.
4) I can’t give an ETA on when you’d see one live, because we’re trying different maps, and each of them takes time to prototype, etc.

I think that conquest is easy for new players to get into, and it’s allowed for some amazing high-level games so far! But we’d like to try some new things that get away from conquest.

Also, as many of us have said, we want to give players enough variety such that they can change what they play from time to time, while also being sure that we don’t fracture the player-base by spreading players out to too many different game types.

I know this isn’t a super exhaustive answer, but just wanted to give you guys a quick update.

Btw, how about a Heroes’ Ascent from GW1? So you could give many different maps and gamemodes with only 1 que.

S/D thief build now has permanent swiftness to match infinite dodge, insane dmg, insane teleport, and boon stealing.

About Zaishen Quests, you weren’t able to get a single ZKey doing the PvP quest as far as I remember.

Quests gave Balthazar faction and were repetable.

I didn’t play GW1 but i gotta admit whatever that is. It sounds fun. And amazing. And i’m guessing a lot of people did pvp in gw1 right? Not only because these balthzar points (aka glory points?) meant something. But because there were actual rewards to be gained from doing well right? That sounds like why there should be gold in sPvP.

And i’m not saying gold is the end all answer to it. In actuality i would personally like it if there where actual chest for achieving things during matches even more so during tourney matches where you get things as lucrative as champ bags from them.

So not only new people would want to pvp for rewards (and fun) but people who pvped all the time didn’t feel like they were behind everyone else in the game

And the best part is that you made 0 direct income from PvP, so absolutely 0 infaltion.

Yeah, balthazar faction is what glory is now, you could spend 5k points to buy a zaishen key. You could use they key to open a chest that can drop basically almost everything from very rare swords to drinks. You also had a rank for opening hundreds of these chest and these ranks had special emotes. So even PvE player were interested and bought the keys in huge amounts, giving PvP players loads of money.

It took bad players more time to farm these things, so you were rewarded for being good. Also, match win chests had unique loot and were also tradeable, you got 1 after 5 consecutive wins in random arena (soloque), 1 after each GvG win and so on for many different gamemodes, with many slightly different chests.

PvE players farmed the money and you could sell things to them. So again, 0 inflation. Best system ever.

I played only PvP in GW1 and I were obscenely poor.
The only ways to become rich in GW1 were either drop a mini Ghostly Hero from HoH chest, win Hero Battle tournaments or bet on GvG tournaments.
Then Hero Battle was removed, match betting too if I’m not wrong, so your only chance to become rich was to drop Ghostly Hero (almost impossible) or get 1c for every 10 faction through Zaishen keys.

I know i know your sad about pves farming glory. Its an exploit that needs to be fixed. But trying to discourage PvEs from playing pvp is not the way to go about making a fun pvp game.

Where do you think pvp players come from? Most people don’t come into the game being pvp masters and fanatics. They play pve, get bored, try out pvp, get stomped and eventually keep trying till they get it.

So why would you not want as big a player base as possible. To cull out as many new pvpers as possible. Yes glory is terrible it ALSO needs to be revamped but there is no reason for sPvP to be the only area of the game where you get nothing of value from. The only area where you can’t level your alt (hell i can level my alts mining ore), and lastly the only area of the game where i can’t play for a few hours and get 50 greens and blues shoved down my throat and at least make a gold so i can dump that into a legendary.

I don’t know anyone who only plays one aspect of the game so why not encourage connectivity between them. And one way to do that is not only to reward pvpers but to entice everyone alike to come to pvp

TL:DR – Gold = Bigger Player base, Bigger player base = more pvpers, more pvpers = more content. PS – pvpers wouldn’t complain about getting rewards

The PvP Players came from GW1 PVP and from other games, where they played PVP, just so you know.

However: As long as the main structure of GW2 is not enjoyable aka cheesy builds, grind-fest etc. it doesn’t matter how many players you could attract. If you bring gold as an incentive they farm gold there. Is the game better then? Instead of rank you farm gold, problem not solved. The main aspect of PVP should be competition and not to have as many players playing it and force them with some cosmethics to do so. Why there are still ppl in PvP? Because there is a daily achievement for it. Gold is a side-aspect and has no influence over PvP. For more details look at LoL / Smite etc.

PPL like you should stop thinking in so small patterns. You need to look at the WHOLE structure of it.

In LoL/Smite and so on, you can get anything from what you do. It’s not the case here. I can’t have the new skins. I can’t have character slots. I can’t haveinstruments. I can’t have 90% of the new things, not to mention content updates for PvP just don’t exist, so at least we should get the reward somehow.

Around 1 silver I guess. But only if que doesn’t take 10 mins and if I am willing to rejoin after having braindeads, because population is so low I can be sure to have them again.

You can hotjoin skyhammer farm glory while waitin for tourney queue. Then buy chests for 200glory.

However, as a PVP player you don’t really have much need for gold aside for getting character slots and/or custom arenas. Just making dyes from tourney chests alone is enough income to buy those things. Now if you like nifty toys in the trading post that come out every few weeks thats a different story.

Most of the new skins come for black lion chest/trading post. I will never have 200g for a Scythe staff from PvP. If price drops to 30g, that’s still like a year.

Some people say nothing costs gold in PvP, but we are expluded from new skins, gemstore, minipets, so like.. most of the new things.

This gave me such a good laugh. Well, they release content every 2 weeks, don’t compare it to any expansions from other MMOs. A traditional expansion has like 20 years of living story – and an expansion won’t got away after 2 weeks.

Also the “story” is terrible atm. Nothing like GW1. I hope they will run out of these ideas and go back to expand on the GW1 lore.

GW1 did not have gemstore and it was still worth it for them. I’m always amused seeing people getting so amazed by something GW1 did 20 times better with 20 times less income.

I play less day-by-day. But this combat systeam has so much potential, and i loved GW1, would love GW2 too if we would have the GW1 gamemodes.

And since new gamemdoes are being tested, I start to have some-kind of hope again. But I don’t like this FPS style, like we have the map and can chose a gamemode.. fine for FPS, but a conquest map is just not fine for a Deathmatch. They need separated maps.

To not to split the community, they should give us a GW1 gamemode called Heroes’ Ascent, where if you get more and more rankpoints for each consecutive win, different maps with different gamemodes follow each other AND has reward. If theat would happen, many would come back, and PvP would definitely be more attractive.

It is late, but if they fix it, at least the number of farmed ranks won’t grow. 2 years later, if we may actually have some changes for PvP (yeah like a miracle) and the population starts to grow, your rank will matter again, because skyhammer famers will be a very low % + newbies flock in and won’t have this to farm their rank. But if they just say “whatever, harm has been done already” – then this will get worse day by day

Back on topic: you get 10 AP for each tier of a rank, that’s 10 tiers per rank, which is 100 AP/rank. Going from rank zero to 50 means you get 5000 AP by farming skyhammer.

If by the end of the day there is no official reply stating that they will take measures against those who farmed, I will also start to do this.. .I can’t pass the opportunity to go from rank 45 to 60 and get 1500 AP in return (gold, laurels, acc bonus, badges, etc).

Rank 50 gives 500, not 5k, This sums how how much you know about PvP or ranks, since I’m sure you don’t have these achievements.

On the other hand, with Symbolic’s case I just wanted to point out you don’t know the scene either. So basically, what are you doing here? Defending Skyhammer farmers, since I assume that’s the only thing you do in “PvP”.

s1.1 attack + bleed
s1.2 attack + bleed
s1.3 attack + cripple
s2 throw sword and pull target to you applies torment.
s3 attack repeatedly with sword sending out projectiles that convert boon to conditions on hit.
torch 1(4) set your self on fire with ghastly flames, flames remove conditions on you and do damage to attackers
torch 2(5) send out a ring of ghastly flame stripping up to three boons from enemies for each boon removed adds a stack of burning.

Since hotjoins/custom arenas/solo arenas/team arenas can all be accessed from anywhere now, there’s no reason to be in the mists unless you are changing your build. So the number of people in the mists is roughly equal to the number of people from your server who are currently changing their PvP build. Good try.

PvE players didn’t bother actually spending time not even in hotjoin, and, while being braindead zerging, was still something that had combat in it so they stayed away from it.

Hotjoin farming gave around 1-2k/hour, not 11k. And as i said it was still avoided by PvE dudes.

Dungeons were made like that. You are playing the game and getting rewarded. You aren’t going to a dungeon, tell the bosses to come to the start in 10 seconds, then both of you do aoe for 2 sec then jump off a cliff and repeat, getting enough money for a legendary in some days.

PvE players are forced to do PvE for real rewards. PvE players aren’t forced to do PvP.

Check Twitch, learn the tricks and priority list of top players, what decisions they make in which situation, does it orth pushing far or not, does it worth leaving a point for a buff or not, when to stomp over res and so on.

Only play hotjoin to learn the maps, hotjoin only teaches you wrong things. After you’ve learned your class and maps, try soloque, ask more experienced ones what to do, which position to take at start, and so on. But think on your own too. You will make terribad decisions for a while, but that’s unavoidable, after a while you will learn from it.

I would prefer something like this actually. I’m not sure how well it could be pulled off, though. Some games just have a hard time pulling off a good political storyline, and it doesn’t help that a lot of gamers just constantly skip through plot filled dialogue and text. (I’m guessing all they hear is “Wah wah wah wah” Charlie Brown style.) So the game developers don’t see much point is making the storyline too deep.

What really made GW1 lore great were politics. But since we all kno what’s the level of the story now.. I start to hope that we will never see new regions, so the lore can be preserved.

However a stunlocker can still be kited around. I only have problem with warriors in tPvP where in a teamfight, if the scene mentioned above happens, you are dead. Mostly if there are 3 warriors, which is pretty common nowadays..

You are not going to kite a good warrior, even if just the two of you (1v1). Their gap closers ensures that you are always in range. You can have them under constant cripple or chill while their berserker stance is on CD. Their cleave is pretty much godlike. You can be standing directly behind them, you’re still gonna get the, “Where Am I?”

Hammer + mace/shield has no gapclosers. Most common tournament build along with the hammer/longbow, which is just perfect for a necro, since the warrior gives you insane amount of bleeds, which you can send back.

This topic is pretty useful and deserves to live on and expand.

This game wants to appel for casuals and harcore PvP players alike, and seems to end up with neither.

Which would drastically decrease Arenanet’s income if the population would start to grow. Won’t happen again.
