After further testing, this bug happens consistently when right click is held down and you’re panning camera, then hit #3 for ZD. If you are running straight with W, for example, and hit 3, the animation will not bug.

Guardian animation bug – just gender transformed to a norn female from male, and this is what Zealot’s Defense looks like -

The “projectile blocking shield” always shows behind the character, and to a slight angle.

The shield is 100% fine. Unlike some of the button mashing weapons though, the shield actually takes know-how to use as well as good timing. Learn to play.

So mash 4 on Cooldown, huge aoe dmg/buff (low skill) and for absorption hope enemies don’t have stability or it’s worthless. Right?

Shield of Judgement:
-Cast time increased to 1 second
-Cooldown reduced from 30 to 25 seconds
-Now blocks all attacks while casting
-Standard protection uptime increased from 5 to 6 seconds

Shield of Absorption
-Cooldown reduced from 40 to 35
-Dome duration increased from 4 to 5 seconds
-Allies in dome now gain 2 second regeneration every second spent inside the dome

Please, let’s make what should have been our professions “standard” offhand viable!

Staff seem underwhelming?

It absolutely is. What’s the staff’s biggest downfall? It’s #2 ability.

It is just horrible. Misses people regularly, awkward cooldown management (once it “expires” countdown begins, not to mention a hefty cooldown if you activate it).. half the time just disappears into thin air.

If staff had had a reworked orb of light that actually functioned as it should in a AAA title MMO, I think it would be in a good place.

Funny, I don’t have any problems at all using Orb of Light.

Funny is that ANet thinks the Guardian’s scepter is a weapon worthy of this game too.. what a joke right?

I don’t think any decent dungeoneer (or at least on this forum) even uses the dungeon master title, so I see it more as a label of a bad player who wanted a cool sounding title.

I definitely still use DM title. Acquired before changes to Arah, etc. I still think it’s the coolest sounding title, especially for a dungeon frequenter.

My take on completing TA

in Twilight Assault

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

Just completed on my first attempt with a group I joined through the ingame LFG tool. We had two warriors, me (engi), an elementalist, and a thief. The thief was by far the worst of the group, going down on some pulls and very very quickly during bigger fights.

Overall group skill level was middle ground even leaning towards lacking. At one point on the Charr boss who spins/throws axes, I was the only one left alive and took him down from 50% to 0.

The dungeon WAS long, this can obviously be improved with experience/mechanic knowledge. Mechanic design was very good, concepts we haven’t yet experienced in GW2. Some people rage about the oozes, we didn’t even communicate and managed to get two in after about 5-10 minutes.

Definitely an improvement over past dungeons. What I like to see is that an organized group who communicates well COULD finish this dungeon at a decently fast rate; groups who do NOT communicate and work together can experience a literal nightmare inside the dungeon path.

Personal rating, an 8/10. Enjoyed the big boss feels and strategy needed to complete certain parts. Would do again, but probably with friends!

Should have been a Raid

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

Tequatl is awesome. As many others have stated the community is coming together, having fun, working hard and (in the case of bigger servers) experiencing success against this boss. Server pride is at an all time high (good thing)

And I realize what Colin has recently stated.. But let’s face it- should have been a raid.

You have people waiting hours in overflows, afkers being a problem, smaller servers just not able to pull together a sufficient amount of individuals.. Etc.

In the future you’re going to have to deal with lack of population again because inevitably those who were successful will return to the boss less and less, and scaling will not accommodate accurately.

If this was created in the equivalent of a dungeon raid boss, the current and future experience would be much better, IMO.

Without the Trinity, We can still have roles

I agree with you wholeheartedly.. And we have needed these types of fights months ago..

Instead of the trinity and its unique depth and variety, we actually have lost one role and are now only able to play DPS or Support. (Given that everyone has to keep track of their own dodges)

Personally I pretty much put the game down a few weeks ago. I thoroughly enjoy PvE content in MMOs, but GW2s system is pretty boring and repetitive when you get down to the nuts and bolts of the system. 4zerker + 1 support and dodge hotkey.. That’s the PvE game in a nutshell.

1) If you succeed, it means the player’s good. Insufficient AR shouldn’t be a reason to be kicked if you are skilled enough. Yet I might admit that he lied, it might be the best example you have given. I would simply have asked for an explanation.

I have never seen more wrong in a statement. I’ve had hundreds of instances where my group succeeds, even with bad players in the party dragging us down.

Oh so a player goes down right at the beginning of a boss fight, we still manage to beat it with 4 people.. That means the player was good? No. I wouldn’t go as far as waiting until the very last second to kick them though; instead I kick them right on the spot so they know where they went wrong.

The living story content IS the endgame PvE.

New "Movement Hate" Mechanic for Guardians

in Guardian

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

Hey everyone!

After discovering that ANet is actually going to implement “Boon Hate”, I figured I’d throw out a suggestion that would go a looooong ways into helping Guardians out! (Since now we’ll take additional damage OR have our boons stolen)

What do I call it? “Movement Hate”
I guess we could call it Zealous Vision or something cool

Basically, since we have no cripples or chills (trait doesn’t even count, dude) and ultramobile professions are zipping around without any downside (similar to boon stacking), Movement Hate will help us keep people in range!!

Movement hate would be a trait implemented in Zeal that slows enemy movement speed in front of a Guardian (vision cone, anywhere from 40-90 degrees) depending on their distance from the Guardian.

For example, if you get a thief into melee range and are whacking away at them (giving that they are very closeby in front of you) their movement speed will be reduced by 33%. If they are 400-600 range away, they will only be slowed 20%, and so on.

With the majority of other professions having and using movement speed signets, and the Guardians not having that option, I think this would really even the playing field and allow us to keep up with targets.

Please, stop asking for raids.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

Raiding does not have to be attached to gear progression in the old mindset (addition of stat gain) but instead can be rewarded with visual gear progression (ANet’s basis of the game, anyways).

The holy trinity, while a good basis of design from a raiding conceptual standpoint, is not required for creating a raid scenario. We already see this in open world bosses (although a bad example, because 100% of them are a complete faceroll and nearly impossible to wipe on).

Appropriate rewards on a downscaling system? You are kittening high. I have never got ONE piece of good loot from doing low areas. EVER.

At the end of the day, I paid my 60 dollars to this company, so who are you to tell me what or what I shouldn’t want in the game. Just because raiding is in a game doesn’t mean you have to do it, AKA it’s optional. Just like every jumping puzzle, every dynamic event, every legendary weapon, and every dungeon in the game.

Since so many people are asking for it (hence you had to make this thread) don’t you think it would be in ANet’s better interest to satiate their customers?

The answer is a flat faced: NO! Just because a kid stops his feet, shouts, and cries, that doesn’t mean that his mommy should buy him the candy bar.

A.Net has a set objective to the design of this game, a set audience that they’re aiming. Neither of those have the idea of Instanced Raiding in mind. If people want that kind of thing, good on them….they just have to go to another game to get it. It’s not in this game, nor is it expected to be. To continually request the game change it’s design an absurd, rude gesture that’s equivalent to spitting in the developer’s face.

So yes, you paid $60 for this game AS IT IS. You did NOT pay $60 to try to dictate how the developers create the game.

P.S. Yes, to those that have tried coming out with the Merriam Webster Dictionary, I know this game has raiding. I was referring to the continued requests to add in “Raids”, as in the 10,20,30,40-man group instanced fights against 1,000,000,000HP mobs for ‘phat lutz’. And what I would refer the Dragon Generals as…not so much “raids” as large-scale Dynamic Events (same goes for the Priest Temples in Arah).

It’s quite funny, because you are the one coming off as a “toddler stomping your feet”.

ANet had a set design for the game .. dynamically changing world, worthwhile events, etc etc..

And guess what. A quarter of the population is standing around in LA chatting and playing the lottery, another quarter is grinding FotM (for skins that raids could reward) OR grinding out CoF path 1 and screwing the economy. Another quarter is in WvW (getting nearly no rewards at all) and the left over quarter is scattered everywhere else.

Not really what ANet envisioned, is it? But guess what.. the game turns into what the players make it. Devs can only have so much a vision for how they would like things to turn out, but guess what, things don’t always go according to plan…

You DON’T consider “dragon events” RAIDS… you think of raids as rewarding “phat loots from killing bosses with 1mil HP”. You’re kittening high again. Please tell me that if rare/exotic loot was NOT dropped from these dragons people would keep doing them… LOL. It’s already all about the loot.

George Steel.1804

This game is not raid oriented.

This game has no tank, healer, DPS set up “Holy Trinity”.

This game’s ‘End Game’ is not designed around gear grinding for micro stat changing piece after piece.

There is no ‘End Game’ based on how this game is ever evolving with it’s Living Story and how a level 80 (max) player can still experience all the lower leveled content, with appropriate rewards, based on a down-scaling system.

This game has tons of content for players to enjoy at max level with the list to include*: world exploration, jumping puzzles, WvWvW, sPvP, dungeons, Fractals, mini-dungeons, economy trading, Keg Brawl, Costume Brawling, dynamic events, guild missions, and more. *(Mentioned is permanent content, not including this month’s SAB each other month’s Living Story content).

So, please, stop asking for Raiding or ‘End Game content’ based on your definition of what that may be. This game is not about that in the least and will not change it’s direction just to appease to the crowds that like that sort of thing. There are many, many other games out there that have their exact goal to be Raiding as to what the players aim for; you’re more than welcome to go play one of those game. But this game will still be here, still be what it is, and still be enjoyable to those that want something different.

Raiding does not have to be attached to gear progression in the old mindset (addition of stat gain) but instead can be rewarded with visual gear progression (ANet’s basis of the game, anyways).

Dungeon Difficulty (or lack thereof)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

So in GW2 dungeons, skill and competency is moreso focused on the individual instead of the group as a whole. For example, while a good guardian can provide his team aegis and protection, this still won’t be able to make up for an individual who can’t move, dodge, and use his/her skills properly.

So great! I like that facet.

But now you’ve got a portion of the population who is challenged by the content currently out – having trouble in CM, complaining about the new AC (which is ridiculous, but I digress) and trying to figure out how to tackle Lupi.

On the other end of the spectrum, you’ve got people completely bored with the difficulty level of the game (highlighting explorable level dungeons, originally a form of “endgame”). You’ve got multiple classes SOLOING a boss that entire groups wipe and complain about. This is pretty much an attempt to challenge ones self.

Maybe the new dungeon being released will bring some added difficulty in, but I don’t quite think this will happen. The dungeon not being developed by the actual dungeon team gives me the impression it will be awesome visually and possibly in terms of a story, but again, easy. (I believe it is labeled as a story-mode)

Is there any chance the dungeon team is planning on releasing some really, really hard content? Something akin to the Mad Kings JP for PvE. Providing more of a challenge to players helps them improve on a personal and team level, essentially helping or making them get better, if they want to complete content. I think this is the next step for GW2 dungeons; a game based on such an action-oriented combat system needs to be developing next level PvE dungeon content. I think it’s possible without the trinity.

Here’s an awesome/interesting video about anyone who played Vanilla/BC WoW, and how it stood up to it’s successors. He talks about difficulty and how it motivates and inspires players alike.

Looking for a variation of Healway for WvW

in Guardian

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

I’ve been running a pretty close variation of Chris’s healway build, with these differences.

1 ascended soldier ring
1 ascended knights ring
1 exotic knight necklace
1 exotic soldier leg
And my sw/foc are both soldier

This puts my crit around 11 percent with some additional power. I find insane capabilities in 1v1-5. I really never have a problem killing anyone (can’t really burst) and having GS+sw/foc gives amazing roaming capability. Coupled with Mango Pie and Sharpening Stones, I’m the juggernaught, kitten.

Protips: leap out of symbwrath every time (for retal, dummy), don’t always GS spin on CD (autoattacks hits hard too, and don’t miss, brah) and remember to dodge for heals and get used to weapon swapping, a lot. It’s a really fun, flexible build.
Edit: I forgot I wanted to include something important.. Target priority and switching. I’ve found that prioritizing quick attacking/squishes to be necessary to win outnumbered battles. Switching to another unsuspecting enemy who has been plinking on your retaliation can also provide you the ability for a quick kill. Remember, disengaging is also your friend. This build makes you more or less the king of attrition battles. And blink, run, and cond remove to escape! Not many can keep up…..

Why are guardians so gawd-awful slow?

in Guardian

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

I can understand your point. Yes guardians are quite useless in solo WvW. But as solo you can clear an entire camp by pulling all of the mobs and killing them at once.

Guardians are also amazing agents Zergs. Wall of reflection right by the gate = shield the gate and amount of damage no other class can do agents a Zerg. All of guardians CC can be a large influence in battles
Eg split few people from a Zerg by using “You Shall NOT PASS” or even stop a good chunk of a Zerg so the rest of your Zerg can catch up.

Block people from using rams by popping sanctuary.

Guardians are more team player sad to say but you can do allot by soloing too.

I actually strongly disagree, and after recently getting my engineer to 80, have realized my Guardian is actually much more effective at solo roaming.

The problem is to roam you’re pretty much pushed into running GS/Sword+X to have two gap closers/openers. I find that when I’m in a bad situation, popping swiftness and rolling/GS leaping/Sword blinking away constantly can put me way way ahead of any chasing enemies, or also allow me to chase others down very effectively.

Molten Weapon Facility

George Steel.1804

In the case that AC was made harder, that’s a matter of opinion. Having personally reduced numbers like HP and damage, and modifying the skills used to not do more devastating things, I know for certain that it is numerically easier than it was before, and more forgiving to mistakes.
However we increased team based difficulty. We designed things to require players to coordinate and work together more than before, since that is our original goal: To create challenging content build for 5 coordinated players. This is why we’re not allowing it to scale like the rest of the game does. It’s set and built for 5, so it doesn’t need scaling.

I got a bad vibe from everyone about AC post patch, and recently tried both path 1 and 3. While the dungeon has changed (final bosses), many parts leading up seemed easier.

Nerf to scavengers along with decreased HP pools was definitely noticeable. I don’t think new AC is nearly as challenging as many make it out to be, it’s just the notion that players have to change up their old ways..

Has poison volley been touched? Are turrets viable? Can they function at range with such clunky skills (looking at you, rifle). Does Engi as a profession not suffer from the “hybrid” syndrome?

The answer, I think, is still no, regardless of posting date.

I also thought it was quite hilarious, shame on me for trying to brighten up someone’s day !

You think the rifle is “clunky” ?

you, sir, have lost your forum necro privileges.

come back when you both know how to read the content BETWEEN when this thread died a natural healthy death and what is going on in the community today and also how to play.

just because YOU don’t like something does not mean that the thing is broken or does not work.

ie, rifle, turrets, poison volley.

perhaps Lego Online is more your speed, where every block is shaped the same way and it is more up to you to be creative than it is for the devs?

Oh yeah you must be right, everything that currently exists in the game is how the devs want it, that’s why they never change anything.

Wait. Guardian scepter range incr. 900>1200, turret health buffed, pistol whip damage reduced flat 30%, quickness cut in half, revealed debuff increased 1 second, yeah these aren’t huge changes or anything.

Sorry, but in a highly mobile game such as GW2, things such as turrets and guardian symbols are left in the dust. Yeah, there might be a presence in point-guarding sPvP, but these skills simply don’t function with the fluidity of shouts and other utilities. (turrets suffer from no mobility AND bad, bad AI)

You dont think the rifle is clunky? Please, tell me how a 1000 range weapon should be in point blank to be effective. Please tell me how overcharge shot will knock you down even if you have stability, and will fail to knock your enemy down if they have stability. Please tell me how fluid jump shot feels.

And there’s the door —>

Even with the slight buff turrets received, I still think many of the points the OP makes are still valid and problematic.

Charr fighting arena should allow you to challenge other players to a duel.

Yet another infantile mechanic you think would be in place after 8 months of a game being out. Yes, we desperately need some quality of life improvements such as this.

Maybe you should consider saving your monetary support until ANet decides to make some real changes and improvements on the actual game.

Here’s a little lesson from every business that ever succeeded.

If you aren’t customizing and tailoring your product to what your consumers want, you’re gonna have a bad time.

So, no, not the players (consumers) fault.

I would love DE’s to be super engaging, fun, and challenging.

But the truth is, 99% of them are not. Most are easy and somewhat non-eventful. Even the ones that ARE entertaining (there are definitely some) simply don’t reward you with anything. No, I don’t want 2 silver, experience, and 300 karma on my level 80 toon.

I fully support making a DE based endgame, but the problem is – there isn’t one. Orr temples are an attempt at doing this but fails due to the dirty, dingy, repetitive feel of the zone.

TLDR; More DE’s, harder DE’s, rewarding DE’s. oh and maybe more often in frequency too.

Design a GW2 "Raid"

The benefit of having bigger raid group (8-10) is so more individuals can actually participate and play together. Dungeons are notorious for splitting individuals and guildmates into small groups; many miss the fun of playing with more people.

I think 10 would be a great middle ground, but would even like to see 25 man raid dungeons introduced!

I agree it does that, but I’d like to see them have some kind of mechanics associated with this too. Something as basic as soaking up AoEs that do damage divided by the number of players hit so that you’d need 3-5 people to stack on different 2-3 different locations so that they can block AoE damage but still survive the damage: Think Dragon Soul in Cata just before Warmaster Blackthorn.

It’s fine letting guildies group in bigger groups, but we need better mechanics for larger groups than simply adding on more damage and hp.

Oh I completely agree, I really want to see some challenging and interesting mechanics involved. I’m sad that the only fights with any significance in GW2 for me were Simin (spark kiting) and Lupicus.

There’s just so much potential, and so far, little results. The dungeon content is a bit disappointing for an MMO of this caliber.

It’s actually possible to do the same with swiftness and just speedy kits. But your increments are terribly small (1-3 second increment per 5 seconds). On a side note, how did you ever manage that? :o

Well let’s just say I started a healing turret party.. then I think every engineer on my server joined (=3). We started dropping crates.. turrets.. even a Guardian jumped in at some point to help us out!
