Update our drivers and check you PC. I have non of those problems on my 2 year old laptop. Don’t ascribe your own hardware problems to the devs.

Oh you’re right, it’s probably my fault. Seeing as my computer was exactly the same before the patch, and everything ran fine.

I just love the point of realization where people realize “ kitten they re-tuned the dungeon to be easier (spark behavior) and I STILL can’t manage to do it. Must be unbalanced!!”

To be honest, I downed her with 1 friend and 3 other from gw2lfg.com. And this was before the patch that fixed sparks.

We had 0 warriors.

It took 5 heal phases to kill her.

Learn how to plug in your sparks.

Besides destroying people’s ability to actually play the game (fps issues, blue-screen, file archive issues) the QA and Dev team has decided to nerf one of the most useless Guardian abilities: Spirit weapons.

Spirit weapons – utilities with decent cast times (esp if you use 3) and which utilize the worst Guardian traitline – Zeal – are now attackable!

It was one in a million to see these used anywhere besides fractals (the shield, specifically)

Now I’ve seen it all!

See, individuals like you totally screw up people’s perception of the boss. Guess what, you were doing it wrong.

We did it with 2 thiefs, 1 Mesmer, 1 ele (not specced full dps) and me, a guardian, with 1400 healing power.

She healed five times and we killed her. She doesn’t heal too fast, you just need people to learn how to kite sparks in faster.

Each time we would get her lower and lower.
It was a blast

0 warriors.

Thieves, if built right, have very high dmg output with just their auto attacks on their daggers. None of us in my group were dps because we don’t’ play in that fashion. We play defensively. So none of us had over 2.7k attack. You need to have at least 3 members in the group with around 2.9k attack + to even have a chance at beating her I am willing to bet. Which means they are trying to force a group into 3 dps + 2 support or either 4 dps + 1 support.

So none of you could respec, switch traits out for more offensive options?
And let me get this right, none of you were dps but you wanted to kill a boss?

Now I understand why devs are so careful (or I hope) when listening to player feedback.

“We play defensively”

I guess I just don’t know how to even respond.
You realize it’s the hardest dungeon in the game, right?

Why would you want to fix an encounter designed to require more than just DPS? It sounds like it is the one encounter that works right to me.

It is not running the sparks that people complain about, it is the ridiculous amount of regen while she is stealth that people complain about.

Using OP terms, after phase 1 of the fight you need EXTREME DPS to get her low enough to even have a chance at killing her after the second spark run. It is a insane DPS check. One that is not needed. It would be fine if they just made the regen slower. Not every class can crit for a easy 12-20k like a warrior.

Unless the group is comprised of nothing but warriors this encounter is a nightmare.

I just tired to help some of my in game friends get their dungeon title. This is the path they have not completed yet. They are good players. It was a well meshed group. The only downfall to our group is we play defensively. So after phase 1, we would chop off another 15% of her health before she would stealth. She can easily heal that in around 15 seconds (if not sooner).

So we got stuck on a infinite loop. Not because we lack the skill. Only due to lack of dps.

The Group: 2 Warriors, Guardian, 2 Elementalists

See, individuals like you totally screw up people’s perception of the boss. Guess what, you were doing it wrong.

My story of Arah p4

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

The only problem with this boss is that it takes all five party members to pull their weight. Which in my opinion makes it the single best fight in the game.

We completed this with 2 thiefs, 1 Mesmer, 1 elementalist (not specced full dps) and me, a cleric’s geared guardian. Only me and the ele knew each other, the rest were pugs. Hardly a min/max dps group.

I handled tears, constantly throwing so our dps was never frozen. We did NOT kill the boss in one 4-1 phase, she healed like 5 times before we killed her. Me and the Mesmer would just kite in sparks flawlessly time and time again.

It was exhilarating.

We need more fights in the game to be a firm reality check for some players. My only dream is that more future encounters require the entire party to play at a high level.

Yeah it’s very weak. I use sword for WvW for the mobility and AA damage, but will not use ZD unless the target is completely CC’ed.

On top of its ineffectiveness, the projectile “block” isn’t even a block, it just dissipates projectiles… Which is the opposite of synergy with our traits like might on block, defenders flame, etc…

Make it actually “block” and useable while moving and voila, you’ve just fixed the sword.

Sticking on a target and escaping sticky situations are literally our biggest challenges in WvW. These were the biggest contributors to me adopting the “Healway Guardian” build for myself(might sound odd, ill explain..).

Running with GS and 2h mastery gives me an 11 second leap without need for enemy target, and sword another blink on a decently low cool down. Using them intelligently not only helps me stick to a target, but is SO helpful for escaping situations. Seriously, I feel like a thief out there.

The reliance on roll heals and sigil of energy means I’m switching weapons nearly every time I can, which then pretty much guarantees my gap closer is ready. If you’re getting crippled while on a target it can be tough to keep whacking away at them; here is where Guardians need to rely on some condition removal to keep themselves free and clear of any movement hindrances.

Situation getting sticky? GS leap away, roll If heals are needed, switch to sword, target those blessed rabbits or deer, blink again and pop some swiftness.

It’s really unbelievable how much less I die and how much longer I stick on targets with this build. I will attempt to make a video in the near future and share my success

Arah path 4: Need for Dungeon Master

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

I just finished the path for my DM title about a week ago. Lineup (as seen in picture) Guardian (w/ 1400 healing power, 5% crit – me) ele, thief x2, mesmer.

People are going to tell you, min max, 3 mesmer 2 warrior or 5 warrior group. Don’t listen to these idiots.

Yeah, the fight’s about DPS. But it’s as much about DPS as it is learning HOW to tackle the encounter.

TIPS:

1) LEARN HOW TO KITE SPARKS. This fight is all about kiting sparks into the right places as FAST as humanly possible. It was my first time and I took care of kiting all North3 sparks and our mesmer south2 and did so in very good time.

2) Tear thrower pre-shooting. Don’t let your dps drop by having people frozen. Have the lowest (estimated) DPS’er in the group on tear duty constantly throwing tears so they instantly hit petrified targets. This was my duty and worked perfectly into the kiting.

We did not have a “speed dps” group for Simin. She stealthed/healed FOUR TIMES during the encounter; each time we would quickly escort sparks to their places and continue the DPS. Learn the mechanics and get it done. It’s not too hard.

Edit: Might as well add, only me and the elementalist in this group were friends. The others we just picked up through gw2lfg.

Arah dungeon- seers path is impossible to finish.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

George Steel.1804

I tried this for the first time with a guild group today, people who have finished several of the other paths so we weren’t Arah noobs. The dungeon up to Simin went quite smoothly and quickly, but we ended up having to give up on this fight after 2 hours due to dinner and a guild event.

Now admittedly we were low on dps as we had 3 necros, a warrior and elementalist (I ended up being quite surprised at the amount of dps we ended up pulling out, hurray for vulnerability) and didn’t stack guardians nor had a mesmer, but I truly think we could have done this if it weren’t for the utter stupidness of the sparks. We had zero room for error.. yet got to watch the sparks randomly head off to someone else not trying to lead them in or dance around the spot we were trying to get them into.

I also think it would be nice to nerf Simin’s regen just a tad to be more forgiving for those groups that aren’t composed of warriors, guardians and mesmers. ANet advertised that there was no holy trinity and that any setup could complete dungeons.. and from what I’ve seen this has been true (ofc certain setups make things more of a faceroll), but not in this fight due to the stupidness of the sparks and dps needed.

Eagerly awaiting the patch as no way I’ll try this again until then.

As my post above shows, we completed it with 0 warriors, one guardian (with 1400 healing power and 4% crit chance), and 1 mesmer. No attempt at a cheese kill, we killed Simin after four phases of stealth/heal (got her lower and lower each time). Get people out of the spark kiting path; I had absolutely no trouble kiting North 3 into locations (and it was my first time there).

Uhm, not really impossible, just finished it last night for my dungeon master title. And guess what! No warriors in the group.

Guardian, Elementalist, 2x Thief, Mesmer (Only me and the Elementalist knew each other). It was a blast.. felt great to finish it (first time actually attempting path 4) Please don’t nerf the encounter… it’s not NEARLY impossible!

EDIT: I should add the entire run only took about 4 hours (I was floored by the fact some people are in here for 8 ). Also, we did not do the 4-1 method over and over again like some suggest, it’s a bad idea. We did open up with the 4-1, then just transitioned into having people properly kite sparks into their location. Spark behavior wasn’t THAT tough to deal with, just had to make sure people were standing OUT of the way.

Seeing as I run 1400 healing power, I worked tear duty and North 3 sparks (again, my first time here) and put sparks in their respective places pretty flawlessly. Took us 4 stealth/heal phases to get her down.

It helps develop the metagame, teach players how to play against a specific class therefore improving their play tenfold, especially with no punishment for losses.

Open world dueling would be the best case scenario. Taking advantage of the beautiful world out there, getting really scenic areas where people can gather and have a fantastic time fighting, learning and progressing together.

Skill or Magic Find?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

George Steel.1804

In this game, anyone can get a legendary. It might take years, but sooner or later, as long as you stick to it, you’ll get one. You can shortcut the process with magic find, farming the right way, playing the TP successfully, buying gold, etc. But everyone can get one -eventually-.

And herein lies the problem. Over time, the number of people with legendaries will increase exponentially. At that point, are they still legendary weapons? Obviously the quality is “Legendary” but do you consider them legendary?

I won’t.

Will people feel special when half the WvW zerg is running around with kewl footsteps too? Glowing trails?

I dont know. For me personally, a skill-based legendary would not only be much more rare and prestigious, it would also serve as a carrot-on-a-stick aimed at improving the skill level of individuals (therefore even improving the metagame).

Subject Alpha and Lupicus look like they actually had game designers working on them. Other bosses are just horsekitten; nothing unique, memorable, worthy of a game like this.

Your outlook on the situation is completely correct. Legendaries should be difficult to attain; not through means of farming, no-lifing, and spending real life money on gems. It should be difficult through the means of content required to clear in order to attain the items.

ANet really screwed their wonderful game with the implementation of Legendaries. A huge grind, with 0 emphasis on skill.

And this is why in WvW, when I completely stomp over a guy with a Legendary weapon 1v1, I wonder.. did he really deserve it?

In my eyes, no. A legendary should require few select materials – All attained through the hardest dungeon or world fights in the game. I don’t even know if any of the Arah paths qualify for a degree of difficulty that I am looking for. These fights should be:

-Incredibly difficult
-Require preparation, planning, and teamwork
-100% drop chance on the item if the final boss is dispatched
-Take into account food buffs, conditions, precise dodge timing, and mechanics that not only stress teamplay but individual prowess

I mean come on, they’re legendaries. And as of right now, what I think when I see someone with a legendary is – Wow, he spent $1000 real life money OR kitten that person loves to no-life farm.

EDIT/ADDITION: I’m looking for something on par with Naxxramas 40-man in WoW. Naxxramas took two and a half months for the first guild to clear. That’s called difficulty. Why can’t we see fights designed so well?? That was in 2006… it’s almost 2013 ANet.

funny that you should think that way. i can only guess you’re not interested in a legendary yourself?

Absolutely correct. I’d rather devote my time in-game to something enjoyable, not grinding. I play for fun.

But what’s so funny about my thought process?

If you were to face me in WvW 1v1, you would realize my non-legendary hammer feels quite legendary when I’m putting you to the ground.

your thought process isn’t funny..it’s what you think of legendaries and their owners that i find amusing.

not a place for wvw discussion, but a couple of points:

i am a casual.
i just made my legendary.
i am extremely competent in all areas of the game, wvw included. my skill level does not diminish nor is it nonexistent in any area of the game. i blame this on my taking 4 months to earn my legendary. there was no rush, but i can’t speak for all everyone who has a legendary. i will say that people who lump all legendary owners together into a goldbuyer/nolifer/noskiller niche are equally wrong as they are right.

Another big point: I never said all the individuals who own legendaries don’t deserve them. Hell, I know there are good players who do.

But attaining one should be a test of skill, not a battle with RNG and real-life cash.

Time to think more about reward systems I suppose.

You think accomplishments are tied to RNG and farming/buying gold?

There are many other rewards for players. But legendaries should be limited to those who have the skill capacity to wield them. Otherwise, they’re not really legendary.

I would like to see if any of the community agrees with me, and hopefully have a few of these ideas shoot over to the dungeon development team for the future.

The idea: Explorable mode dungeons are boring, dull, bland. Not only are they not hard enough, they really aren’t memorable.

Initially when I heard of the plan for explorable dungeons(pre-release), I was excited!! Yes! A hard version that would challenge me and my crew, and would reap better rewards. More paths? Awesome! More challenges!

Unless I am mistaken, ANet has deemed EXP Dungeons as a form of endgame.

Let’s think about how long this endgame has lasted, and maybe how many memories have you kept from repeatedly running all those explorables? (We won’t even touch on the reward system…)

For me? Few and far between. I sure as hell remember my first run of AC Story mode though; the boss mechanics, flavor and pace of the fights, I liked it. But thinking about the countless runs of AC, HotW, CoF, even Arah Explorables have left a bad taste.. no wait, no taste in my mouth. I don’t even remember them, because the experience was a farm run with no hard, interesting boss mechanics.

Wishful Thinking
I want ANet to release Explorable modes that are worthy of being called an Endgame. I hate to compare to WoW (I quit during BC) but the truth is, the bosses were so much better designed. That it is a bit depressing.

For instance, 40-man Naxxramas was released in 2006. It took the world-first guild two and a half months to clear the instance. And you know they must have been running it so often. Wow. Why can’t ANet develop in-depth, tough, mechanic driven fights? One issue may be the lack of trinity..

I read about Lupicus dozens of times before I was ever able to attempt him. And when I finally got to fight the big bad Giganticus, I was embarrassed for all the people who had posted: NERF HIM OMG!? Lupicus is one of the better fights in the explorables; his size, difficulty, learning curve all help you feel like you actually accomplished something, but I wouldn’t even call him hard.

The thing is, we need more of these types of fights. Arah may be slightly difficult, but CoE? HotW? You can’t honestly say these explorable paths should be deemed worthy of top 3 dungeons in the game.

Please, think outside the box. SO many players love to run dungeons, we yearn for something difficult and memorable. Experiences to reminisce about and relive past accomplishments. It is almost 2013 after all; you’d think the quality and difficulty could be better than something released in 2006.

P.S. In case you think I’m wearing crafted exotics and just talking a big game

This game is lacking one thing for me, FFA

Not so much FFA in my eyes, but world PvP.

I would love to see a server with the option of hostile factions. The Charr don’t like the Humans, let them fight! I think fighting over lands would be fantastic; the ganking and fighting with your allies would make the game so much more satisfying.

It’s the one thing I really miss from Zorld of Zorcraft. I was on a PvP server, and fighting others while questing, traveling, and advancing your character was one of the most FUN parts of the game.

And no, WvW doesn’t really do it for me.

Area Denial (LoW, RoW) and Stability

in Guardian

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

I don’t think people should be able to exit our area denial skills with stability.

Why? You may ask

There’s a few aspects:
-Huge cast time/animation
-Cannot move while casting
-“They focus on area control and punishing enemies for the position on the battlefield.” As stated by ANet in Dec 14 patch notes focusing on Guardian.
-Big cooldowns. 40 seconds on Line and Ring
-Low duration of existence (5 seconds, can’t be improved)

As the game stands, line and ring of warding are not nearly as useful as they should be. Anyone with stability can feel free to waltz right through these POWERFUL area denial spells, even though we just spent 2 whole seconds casting the animation.

Guardians should be able to alter the ebb and flow of the battlefield, and be masters of area denial (Stated by ANet themselves).

You should either..
Not allow stability to completely counter these powerful wards
or
Reduce the resources required to actually get the casts off, i.e, let us cast them while moving

I would personally rather see the first solution, as it really solidifies our presence on the battlefield, and makes our wards a threat. But I guess the second would be better than nothing. Thoughts?

P.S. I realize I didn’t include Sanctuary into the topic, but I’m pretty sure you can run through it with stability.. am I correct? If so, Sanctuary should definitely stop people from running through with stability (120s CD!) I personally haven’t used it very extensively; our other utilities provide much more bang for your buck.

Mysterious Vanishing Botters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So I’m getting this skillpoint and hit up the node afterwards, a silver node. As I’m done mining, I’m suddenly startled.

There’s a ranger here!?

But no one walked down this huge tunnel with me…

This guy is not only naked (was a ranger, typical bot profession), not wearing gear, but immediately after mining the node 3x he vanishes into thin air.

I ended up adding the name to my friends list, WHOA.. he’s still in Gendarran Fields (by the time I got this pic he had zipped underground to Kessex), and he’s still online. Whispered him.. no response…

What have you been doing to combat these types of botters ANet? It’s really hard to catch their names and be able to report it..

@Dragonbrand invaders (4), ~5AM EST, 12/26/2012, Watergate, West Keep (Dbrand BL)…

I really enjoyed the 4v1. I did aim for the commander (mesmer) first, as I love to stomp people who pay money for titles. With a little help from a clutch rally (this is why I attack downed players instead!) I was able to reincarnate from my hunkered position and secure the last kill. Hopefully, you weren’t too embarrassed.

Guardian Builds - General PvE/WvW/Arah EXP

in Guardian

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

Hi, my name’s George and I’m going to show you the builds that I have come up with for excellence in these three areas.

General PvE – Altruistic Healing + Symbol Vuln (Hammer+Staff)
15 Zeal – (Fiery Wrath)
0 Radiance
30 Valor – (Strength in Numbers) + (Retributive Armor) + (Altruistic Healing)
20 Honor – (Superior Aria) + (Empowering Might)
5 Virtues – (Inspired Virtue)

I run this build with SY & HTL shouts, switching up the third utility (usually choosing Wall of Reflection). This build provides the great survivability of AH, plus some extras. PvEnemies will suffer a constant assault of Vulnerability (due to Trait + Hammer symbol). Great for increasing your parties damage, and you still keep the team-oriented PvE buffs (Shout CD, Emp Might)

WvW – Altruistic Healing + Shouts (Hammer/GS+Staff)
0 Zeal
0 Radiance
30 Valor – (Strength in Numbers) + (Retributive Armor) + (Altruistic Healing)
30 Honor – (Superior Aria) + (2H Mastery) + (Pure of Voice)
10 Virtues – (Master of Consecrations) OR (Vengeful)

This build focuses on using low-cooldown shouts to keep you and your allies free of conditions. Shouts will also work wonders with the AH, keeping you alive longer. 2H Mastery helps keep those cooldowns short, opening up your gap closers and area denial abilities sooner. Depending on the situation, I’ll run either MasterConsec or Vengeful. Wall of Reflection is invaluable in WvW, but if it’s not your style, pick up vengeful to keep 100% retaliation uptime with your three shouts easy. Come on, HIT ME!

P.S. If you’re taking your Hammer to WvW, make sure to bring Judge’s Intervention. When running with GS I usually leave it out, as the leap has greater gap closing potential.

Arah Explorable – Altruistic Healing + Virtues (Hammer/Staff)
0 Zeal
0 Radiance
30 Valor – (Strength in Numbers) + (Retributive Armor) + (Altruistic Healing)
20 Honor – (Superior Aria) + (Empowering Might)
20 Virtues – (Master of Consecrations) + (Indomitable Courage)

With this build, I run 2 shouts and WoR. SYG for Lupicus tied with stability on your courage activation allows you to save yourself and allies and escape his toxic bubble. 30 Second refresh on your courage will also passively help avoid big hits. WoR is great for his targeted projectiles and reflects for BONUS DAMAGE! (Hint: Use for his rapid fire projectiles in Phase 3) A very survivable build with an extra touch to help the hard fights go down easy.

My stats in the General PvE Build:
+Sigil of Accuracy
+70 Toughness in combat

Does anyone care about SPVP anymore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

George Steel.1804

Nope. Got bored with it SO FAST. Here are some of my gripes:

-Only one kind of game mode
-Forced into one style of play, since the statistics are all based on an AMULET (I prefer my customized Guardian stats in WvW) – this ends up limiting different spec and stat options
-Huge zergfests, should be max 5vs5 even in quickjoin/pub games

Personally having a blast on my new Engineer (playing pretty much 100% solo as of now) at level 22. Some great chain AoE abilities, immobilizes, kits such as flamethrower and elixir gun.. not only effective, but fun!

Engineer Flamethrower Kit (Visual) Physics

in Suggestions

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

I just started playing my engineer, who’s now level 17.. but somethings already bothering me.

For a game that has such great physics with regards to water, environments, even the rustling cornfields, looking at my Flamethrower Kit’s static fuel is quite disturbing. The backpack and side reservoir are filled with what I presume is flame fuel/gas mixture that remains still, even while the kit’s mini-cape and tube connector ebb and flow with movements.

Investing a little work into the visuals of the kit would be appreciated!

Besides the fact we self-heal less, I can somewhat agree I like the new form of vigor regeneration. You can still reap the benefit of vigor without having to constantly swing away at something
