I don’t think the scepter’s autoattack should be so slow you can nearly outrun it with swiftness. Sorry!

It’s such an easy fix… just make it a beam. It’s been recommended time and time again. Similar to our wrath skill or mesmer GS#1, adjusted for damage.

Something though. Please don’t allow this stupid broken weapon design to continue any longer.

Design a GW2 "Raid"

George Steel.1804

The benefit of having bigger raid group (8-10) is so more individuals can actually participate and play together. Dungeons are notorious for splitting individuals and guildmates into small groups; many miss the fun of playing with more people.

I think 10 would be a great middle ground, but would even like to see 25 man raid dungeons introduced!

Guild Wars 2 – The Raids

Party size:
10

Reward system:
Extreme rare skins (drop chance from any mob, encourages full clear, but I’m not talking dredge fractal quantity of mobs here people)
Token/End chest rewards for more reliable pickup of new gear skins (no stat upgrades)
Unique titles for clearing certain content

Content:
Two Difficulty Scales

Normal – Average difficulty scale is higher than current explorable dungeons (harder than Arah). Regular bossfights comparable to Lupicus (Lupi has been SOLOED, not that hard once you know what you’re doing, regardless of prof makeup). Knowledge of boss attacks, in-depth knowledge of profession and movement ability required. Good party makeup makes things a bit easier. Exotic gear is almost necessary, but not required if matched with player skill. Armor/Wep skins and title for completion of certain raid dungeons.

Ascended – Difficulty for the top 1-3% of GW2 gamers. Tough, challenging content. Introduces unique dungeons that focus on less trash/more really tough boss fights. Supreme movement, prof knowledge, party makeup, trait builds required. Possible requirement of Defiance stack management to keep Raid group alive. Very unforgiving, making a mistake will get you punished and you will wipe. Never-before-seen boss mechanics, requiring even skills unknown at this time (comparable to Simin spark-kiting but in other variances). Time to seek out and form a guild of good, skilled people and develop some relationships. Rewarded with unique armor/weapon skins and pristine titles. Legends and memories will be made by clearing any Ascended dungeon content.

Limited Acess/Server Pride/Sense of Achievement:
I would very much like to see limited-access Raid content (similar to SAB) This content would be available for say a month each year, with background and story tied into the opening (it could reappear in later years/months) What this would introduce is a sense of urgency to learning and defeating hard content in GW2, something that currently does not exist. In terms of Server Pride and Sense of Achievement, we need the equivalent (sorry to compare) of Onyxia’s Head; Visual city rewards/buffs that can represent the challenges certain groups have overcome. (e.×. giant Dragon corpse hung in LA, Dragonhead on a post in your WvW Keeps)

Bottom line – No one really wants stat upgrades. We want some cool looking gear, and we want to be challenged. I would like to see the agony mechanic infused with these raids, but the current formula (keep piling on AR) is flawed and unnecessary, make a cap at 20/30/whatever. Then scale boss fights around this point (causing damage similar to FotM Maw at 0AR) whittling someone down ALMOST to the point of death. Pop your cooldowns and survive this time, but probably not next.

Skychef is right and he has run a ton of Arah. When Lup does that attack he sort of flings the poison jars so they tend to land all over the place and not specifically in the center of the circles. At range its easily avoided. Up close you need to use other means to avoid taking damage.

Ehh, not quite. I’ve done Lupi fight countless amount of times and one dodge is enough to escape any damage by snot (as long as you know what you’re doing)

in Guardian

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

And I thought the ele auto attacks were horrible…

This is just pathetic.

Yeah it’s really disgusting. Worst auto-attack in the game BY FAR. I haven’t really had time to video running next to orbs with swiftness on (still planning on releasing a short clip) but lets just say that running with swiftness -> orb of wrath -> by the time it’s dissipated, it’s only 200 range ahead of you.

This means that if an enemy has swiftness and is more than 200 range away and running, your “1200 range” autoattack will do ZERO DAMAGE.

Thanks, ANET!

Unofficial "Dueling" Area in WvW: Look!

George Steel.1804

If this ever happens on my server’s match up, I’m going to find my way over, and mist-form STOMP any and all participants. I will find ways to disrupt the entire process over and over again. Why? Because this is NOT Warhammer Online (where they did this bull droppings thing a lot) and this kind of buddy-buddy 1 on 1 is NOT what WvWvW is design for. Because, it’s designed for massive fights between each servers with full enemy in mind (no, they’re not friendly sparing matches).

If you want that kind of 1vs1 fights. Go into the Heart of the Mists and start an empty server with just you and the opponent for the duel. Nobody wants to join a 2 person server, and you get the opportunity to duel. Good luck.

Omg noo! wow!!!! big talker!!!!

Yeah, good luck with that. When we’ve had duel sessions (very respectful, well mannered, also fun) any duel disruptors got promptly teamed on and stomped out, then humiliated.

But yeah act tough then enjoy getting absolutely destroyed. Hopefully they kill you on sight every other time you show up (and when you want to start getting in on duels too)

Concerns about SOTG & Moving forward

in PvP

Posted by: George Steel.1804

George Steel.1804

Guys, I hate to do it, but I have to side with the Devs on this one.

Karl seems to be a popular punching bag around here, but before you beat the dead horse any more try to understand that it is a managment decision not to give the PvP devs the resources they need and that the few brave (albeit socially awkward) guys that they put out there to give us some answers should not be ridiculed for making the effort.

You know why Devs don’t want to communicate with the player base? It is because some people think it is appropriate to criticize them for everything in the game that isn’t perfect, and God forbid they poke their head up for a moment to try and answer the deafening roar of questions, because if they do, then some donkey pit (use thesaurus on previous two words if you don’e get it) will try to take cheap shots and make a fool of them.

What did I get from the SotG? The PvP devs don’t have the resources they need, and management isn’t even smart enough to send a Gaile Gray PR type to help them out in a serious discussion with the community.

Don’t shoot the messenger. It is counter productive.

You’re telling me a professional in a career path can’t formulate sentences about the very game they design and balance? And keeps introducing professions as if viewers were infantile?

Sorry, no dice. There was no messenger in this video – that’s one of the problems. But like I said, all the grief I’m giving isn’t because the middle-school equivalent presentation. It’s also about many short answers with no serious insight and cooperative ideas getting thrown around.

Also: I don’t even play sPvP.

its three gap closers actually…

if you care for it you can close nearly a 2000 range distance in 2 seconds… add the 1200 range knockdown and the immobilize signets – clipping/targeting range is the limit.

If you count binding blades a closer yeah.. but only two gap openers (best you’re gonna get with a guardian). I guess you could run JI (many people like it) but I’ve had a fantastic time running 3 shouts (SYG, SY, HTL) without any problems closing in on people.

I had heard some things about the “State of the Game” video posted on March 14th, and I just saw it for myself.

And let me just say, wow. How disappointing. For people who haven’t seen:

I don’t expect the devs to be elite communicators, but watching this discussion was painful. The amount of issues that didn’t get addressed was painful. The way the information was vocalized was really painful.

On top of it all, this was a balance discussion (focused on sPvP) with two experienced guests (Nero and Xeph). Why was it necessary to give a description of every profession before discussing them?

I’m just a bit shocked, to be honest. Watching this makes me very nervous looking into the future.

If you want to focus on WvW use the healway build or a variant. 0/0/10/30/30

It’s seriously unkillable and you can still put people down. I take on 3v1’s regularly, and oftentimes end up stomping out all three unless they’re a thief/dd ele.

GS + Sword/Focus
Two gap closers + openers the only escape you’ll ever be doing (minus JI, but that’s got quite a cooldown in comparison)

Actually what the OP makes a lot of sense. I would prefer these AoE abilities to have an unlimited amount of targets in WvW (exclude PvE) to deter people from grouping and playing with a zerg.

If reflects is what it’s all about why don’t we at least love rangers for their whirling defense?

We do when they use it, even though it’s not nearly as good as skills like Feedback and Wall of Reflection and Smokescreen. More often than not, though, bad players playing Rangers simply spam Shortbow for hours on end.

Seriously, this. I just made a ranger who’s really low leveled, and upon trying whirling defenses I can already tell this is an amazing skill to have on a secondary weapon set swap.

The worst thing is, I have never seen a ranger use this ability in PvE content. Not on lupi, not in fractals, literally never.

I get it, and in a sense you’re right, assuming they’re both of equal skill level. A warrior at the meta will always do more damage than a ranger, and a Guardian will dish out superior support compared to an Engi.

However, it’s still doable – and evekittenome of the hardest points in the game. Too many people drop everything and give up because they don’t think X comp can do it. It’s more about how good you and your party is IMO.

At the same time as I did have two thieves (which many deem desired due to smokescreen, one of them did use it as I recall) I still had two players on the “worst profession” in the game.

Also only having 1 heavy is not really desirable by most groups. However it was still a pretty smooth run.

Not having a Guardian would make it more difficult, but not nearly impossible. The difference is people need to play at a better level without that group support. For example, having a well/plague necro makes grub phases trivial through aoe blinds and dots.

Projectile reflect in regards to the fractals we had:
Bloomhunger: I don’t use any projectile reflect since this fight only requires you to dodge AoE circles, and if you can’t manage that then you deserve the agony (I melee him and do just fine)

Uncategorized: Reflects work wonders for getting past harpies, but besides that the rest of the fractal is trivial anyway. Tom is kitten easy, and the last boss shoots three slow moving electric balls that are easily dodged by anyone with decent vision.

Grawl: Projectile reflect only beneficial on legendary imbued (I dont use it on the grawl boss) However, reflect isnt neccessary if individuals know how to dodge flaming arrows (turn your sound up, SO easy to dodge every one) and have a team mechanic to help with grubs (reflect is a big help, but so is AoE blind, slows, daggerstorm, etc)

I think it’s more of a Learn2Play issue.
I also don’t think EVERY group comp can work, and thats fine. But most will, as long as people are good.

So, the description of the Guardian they just gave maybe 2 months back “Powerful with boons, feels pressure and weakness without” they are going back on, because instead, it’s "feels pressured with multiple boons, feels pressure without’.

How about you go back to the drawing board, take a look at how the professions function at a core level, where the most weakness lies, instead of “Well, dem bunkers and boons. Counter boon? Boon hate? Done.” (FYI NECROS CAN DO THIS ALREADY)

I have to admit though, I’m glad I started building my glass cannon Guardian set. If they really botch the game with boon hate, I ain’t givin boons out anyways. Time for selfish meditations. Say bye team support

The issue…

I often face myself grouping with players of “less than desirable” skill levels.
So, what does my cleric+soldier outfit do for me?

Answer: I can carry these people through a dungeon. Literally. My dodges AoE heal for 1300. My shouts transfer conditions to boons. My regen and groupwide VoR tick for monstrous amounts.

While I can definitely stay alive and do amazing damage in full GC gear, I can’t really offer my team anything besides damage. Yeah, maybe a little regen, might on crit, but nothing sustainable. But the problem isn’t about me staying alive, it’s my party.

And tbh, I didn’t roll a guardian thinking I wouldn’t support my team.

You also can’t claim the weapon was “designed to proc VoJ” when GS, Hammer(symbol included) and torch all have multi-hit abilities rivaling sword.

And those greatsword skills have a lot more cool down than Sword 1. (I have no idea what multihit hammer skills you’re talking about.) Also, part of sword’s benefit is it can be paired with torch unlike hammer and greatsword. Even without torch, just start a mob on fire, and sword 1 with Virtue of Justice’s passive will keep it there until the mob is dead. Steady, quick attacks (which proc Virtue of Justice’s passive) is what every one of sword’s abilities scream.

GS + Hammer symbols both proc VoJ. But I digress.

If you are not using VoJ on cooldown, you are doing it wrong. Whether or not the weapon was “made to proc VoJ” is all redundant. In the end, sword’s skills are lackluster due to the many reasons others have stated. Having a mobile ZD and reworking Flashing Blade to do some actual damage would alleviate many concerns.

First off, if you guys are not activating VoJ and entrusting 1h sword’s multi-hit autoattack to proc burning.. You’re doing it wrong.

VoJ should be used ON COOLDOWN as you will(should) have 15 traited in Radiance for refresh, and at least 5 in virtues to provide you(and) your party stacks of might as well. (I run 0-0-10-30-30 and always use VoJ on cd)

You also can’t claim the weapon was “designed to proc VoJ” when GS, Hammer(symbol included) and torch all have multi-hit abilities rivaling sword.

In terms of hammer being our best weapon? In PvE, it is. But it’s hella boring. In PvP though, I have to say I’ve had a lot better time with the GS + 2h mastery. I just cannot deal with the kittenedly slow cast on 3rd chain auto swing. Yeah, MB is nice.. but not as the only source of damage.

Is your guild new? Since you are kings, does that mean Yamma X is your leader?

Yes, my guild is new.

I have no idea who that is.
