Gaile The Frog,
I want your frog mini for my gw1 hom.
I’ll send you a PM with all the details of the transaction.
(i’m kidding. keep up the awesome work!)
This to me seems a major departure from the kind of game Anet has told us they intend to make for their players. No gold stars from me on this one.
They don’t care about the promises they made years ago. They put the customer’s satisfaction and quality assurance on the back burner and focus more on making money.
I had this issue the other day. Did a full reinstall of Windows 7 and it worked first try.
I do a lot of tweaking with the Windows OS so I very well may have disabled some necessary encryption/authentication feature.
Clean install did the trick!
If Ascended were only skins, then it would be just like legendary…
…so why would you even have to bother with Ascended?
but that….that would be obvious and common sense.
Do you use the same email/password combination on any other websites? Hackers usually hack gaming websites and use the emails and passwords they steal to compromise game accounts.
You keep the coin forever.

This game is grindy. Things need to be repeated over and over and over in order for any reward to be given. That is grinding.
Yeah, I agree. Street Fighter was also a really grindy game, having to keep punching and kicking people over and over and over again. Couldn’t stand the grind!
Your logic says this in terms of an MMORPG:
Guild Wars is a really grindy game, having to keep swinging your sword and using spells over and over and over again.
So you can quit trolling any time now.
Just the opposite here. Game uses about 20% of my CPU and 70% of my GPU.
Intel Core i7-3770K @ 4.5
Sapphire VaporX 7970 3GB
Even if the game doesn’t use all the available resources, you will still get a performance boost from raw cycles. Meaning overclocking helps even if more resources aren’t being used.
I suggest phone verification. Automated system calls a verified phone number on the account and supplies a code. User enters code into the game to allow the purchase.
My two cents.
Bill Friest mentioned that in a couple weeks a patch will be pushed out which will increase performance in crowded scenarios. I think this is just another culling patch and doesn’t solve the core flaws in the game engine.
So I agree with you 100%. They are dodging the core issue and are just releasing quick little bandages to make it seem like they are doing work. The intelligent people can see through that.

Just buy coins outside of the box. You can get 7 bauble bubbles in one daily rotation from world 1 and the bonus round. This means 7 coins, which equates to 175 lives. Do you SERIOUSLY need more than that to beat world 2? The infinite coin is very VERY unnecessary.
But repeating the same content over and over just to farm bauble bubbles is grinding.
Grinding is a big no-no in ArenaNet’s eyes. Or have things changed??? (sarcasm)
If you consider this game grindy, you have no idea of what true grinding is like.
Not to mention that finishing this doesn’t give you or anyone any sort of advantage over the players who decide not to.
This game is grindy. Things need to be repeated over and over and over in order for any reward to be given. That is grinding.
You don’t have to do it.
(See the bold text? – emphasis on that)Sry anet doesnt hand you a list at the start of each content update so you can get things you like directly sent to your mailbox. (sarcasm)
That isn’t the point. GO watch the manifesto and hear the devs specifically state that “grinding isn’t fun” and “we are not building the same mmo everyone else is building”. It is a load of bull. Why shouldn’t we be angry about grind? IT GOES COMPLETELY AGAINST THE THINGS STATED IN THE MANIFESTO!!!
Everything that was once soulbound and becomes account-bound or not bound at all is bugged. All my halloween tonics, blueprints, etc cant be sold on the TP despite the fact that they are no longer SB or AB.

looking for baubles is not fun
You’re supposed to buy the Infinite Continue Coin from the gemstore. Then lives/health become meaningless and you can spend baubles on other things.
nono, i’m referring to searching for every last bauble for that stupid achievement
There’s a mount in GW1. The dwarf who killed Rurik was riding on one.
Yeah that’s Dagnar Stonepate and he is riding a Drake.
i want the same halloween as last year.
no need to spoil awesome original content with garbage

looking for baubles is not fun
When I met the devs at PAX East 2011, I asked them about mounts. Here is what they said verbatim:
“If we were to add mounts, they would be Dragons”
Meaning they would be flying mounts.
They sorta did this with that Marjory’s Journal. It replays a cinematic from one of the events. Maybe something along that direction.
First SAB was fun and somthink new, this is boring and old, just keep the SAB open all year long and of the LIVING STORY!!!!!
I agree. SAB should just be a minigame that one can go and play whenever they want. It has no place in Living Story.

My point is that as paying customers, we are entitled to voice our criticisms here on the forums. Saying we shouldn’t be complaining is completely moronic. Without criticism, how can the developers know for sure what they have messed up?

I’ll just say this:
If you don’t like it, then don’t play it. Ignore it ever existed, and avoid Rata Sum.You people can be so idiotic sometimes.
We all paid money for this game. That entitles us to complain about anything we don’t like that is developed. If this game cost absolutely no money to play, then we would have no right to complain.
Your statement is invalid.
The guy that was on the livestream yesterday demonstrating World 2 is the same guy that came up with the idea for Super Adventure Box.
I can’t deny the humor of the concept but it certainly has NO place whatsoever in Guild Wars. He obviously never ever played GW1 and has no respect for what Guild Wars truly is.
I have a Intel i7 CPU with 4 cores running as 8 CPUs. The clock speed is normally at 1.73GHz but each core is designed to overclock itself as needed. This is called “turbo boost”.
If his CPU has turbo boost? Then the 1.6ghz clock speed isn’t a problem. It can probably reach 2.3 of 2.5 with turbo boost.
Turbo boost doesn’t automatically make a bad cpu a good one

…the guy at ArenaNet who made it was repeatedly dying in the live stream yesterday on TwitchTV.
You also know why World 2 is so hard when…
…an Infinite Continue Coin gets put in the Gem Store.
I can see people are already boycotting World 2…so I’m going to hop on that bandwagon.
Don’t expect double FPS overnight
. Also, the changes I mentioned will mostly only be noticeable in combat or in large groups of creatures/players.

Bill, I have a $500 video card. Could you please, utilize more of it’s resources and rely less on my CPU? I would very much appreciate it.
This thread is becoming funnier by the minute.

Meaning you aren’t getting down to the core flaws of the engine and are only focusing on culling spell effects and player models during big fights and engagements with lots of people.
In addition to Colin’s response:
As Colin mentioned we have dedicated resources to addressing performance (server and client side). We formed a small team back in Spring to get the ball rolling. Recently we’ve been upping our resources and have made policies company-wide to ensure our releases don’t have negative effects on the performance of the game. You’ll start noticing, as early as the release in 2 weeks, that we’re improving performance of the game.
Optimizing is an extremely dangerous thing to do, especially to a Live game. We can’t just push out these optimizations as we go, as much as we’d like to. They go through a testing cycle of a minimum of 6 weeks to ensure they don’t have a negative impact on the game. We have a great group of people in QA that are staying on top of reports on the forums as well as doing dedicated performance testing across the game while putting together information for our Engineers to address issues as they pop up.
As I mentioned above, the first round of noticeable improvements should be rolling out in a couple weeks. From then on, I hope to have some sort of noticeable gain every 4 – 6 weeks. I hope to have more information on this in the near future.
-Bill
I appreciate the acknowledgement of the issue, but I fail to understand why performance wasn’t a primary concern in the time frame between 2007 (the year development started) and the end of 2010 (when the first demo events began). The game was not live during that 3 and a half year span.
Expect dismal fps even on the lowest settings. But give it a try.
Official statement claiming performance is being worked on: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Why-is-Performance-Never-Rarely-Addressed/first#post2716646
“Claiming” being the key word. With all the broken promises, I now take ANet’s “claims” and “promises” with a grain of salt.
is it possible for them to switch engine or is that like starting from scratch? what is the flaw of the unreal engine?
At this point, it isn’t feasible for them to do an overhaul like that. I personally love the Unreal Engine but that is asking too much at this point.
something like that isn’t detectable as far as i know. i made a script once that spammed jump and used it for many months and never got so much as a warning. as long as you aren’t blatantly botting (i.e. you are away all day and your character is killing things for loot automatically) then you are fine.
Only during the day will this have any effect. From dismissal time onward, the population will be alot higher.
How many of your precious 8 cores does WoW use or any other MMO you may have loaded? How many are Dx11 only? How many with both Dx9 and Dx11 run significantly better when you check the Dx11 box? Not just look better but also have a faster frame rate with the same settings? How many are 64-bit clients?
Write your own 3D rendering engine and then we can talk about how “easy” it is to do all these things you think are trivial.
This isn’t about our ability to create a 3d game engine. This is about a professional company selling a product that is incomplete.
I got up to that slide that is at Lake Mourn in Hoelbrak. If only we could slide down it…. I hope you enjoy the screenshots!
The last screenshot is a view from ocean beneath Hoelbrak (yes, beneath each map is a body of water). It is pretty freaky to say the least.

My underwear was white before reading this thread.
Now they are brown and yellow.
The so called next generation mmo uses an old generation 32bit client. So it doesn’t matter if you have 32gb of ram because Gw2 will only use 2gb max.
You do realize the limitation for 32-bit is 4GB, right?
Operating systems take 1-2 gigabytes by itself, therefore increasing the consumed ram would actually break a large group of computers that run under 32 bit.
I honestly don’t even know why Microsoft continues to produce 32-bit operating systems. Most modern processors are 64-bit compatible and everyone should be running 64-bit anyway.
Also I have been increasing in framerate, especially when they removed culling. They’ve done a fantastic job on performance updates for one year.
[/quote]
We have folks constantly working to improve performance, we’ve actually made quite a few perf updates this year. You’ll see more perf updates in the upcoming releases, we have a team working entirely on performance at all times that won’t be going away any time soon.
Does this “team” happen to be comprised of one person and a monkey?
Take some people off the Living Story team and have them help with performance. We all know that having new boring content every two weeks isn’t working.
turn off all performance saving features both in your BIOS and in Windows
this game is still in beta

Your CPU is seriously holding you back but it doesn’t matter anyway. I have a 3770k with a 7970 and this game still runs like crap. The devs just don’t care about how well the game runs as long as they are getting money from the gem store.
I read that as “alienate half the player base!”
Not gonna’ happen. It would require a rewrite of the game engine.
That is exactly what this game needs. The engine needs to be rebuilt from scratch because this one simply isn’t cutting it.
It is obvious that the developers didn’t stick to the things they stated in the Manifesto. If they did, the game would be good and people wouldn’t be quitting to go back to GW1 (like me).
There is nothing wrong with your computer. The game engine is terribly programmed and as long as gem store sales stay up, nothing will be done about it.
All you can do is stop buying gems.
When I first heard about the professions in Guild Wars 2 I made my mind up that I was going to play an Engineer. When I pick up mmorpgs I usually only have time to dedicate to 1 character and MAYBE an ALT. It was an innocent decision because I was under the assumption that all professions would be balanced to play however we wanted (based on the skills you chose). I figured Pistol Engineers main skills and tools deal w/ condition damage so I should focus on that.
Fixed. There are no classes in this game, only professions.

As to what profession you should play, go Thief.
Confirmed. Went from a couple seconds max to about 12 seconds. Pretty crazy stuff.
