kinda, GvGs aren’t conquest, but elimination deathmatch. GvGs are anywhere from 15v15 to 25v25 – not happening in SPvP.

level playing field? i don’t get this argument, everyone has access to the same stuff. food, gear, etc.

and as far as “do it in spvp” being their standpoint, so be it. we’ll continue to do them in WvW, where we find it more suitable.

Don’t know if you played GW1 any but armor and weapons were, other than cosmetic appearance, considerably easier to obtain. The biggest variation in GW1 was the skills and team coordination it took to pull off a win. PvP only characters could be quickly and easily created. You didn’t have to have large amounts of gold to buy all of the top gear for your toon. Some even considered you a noob if you came into the PvP arenas with a standard PVE toon. My only concern with GvG is queuing up the map and/or taking up slots of people actually wanting to play WvW. Therefore, I am a big advocate for getting you guys this GvG format. I did play a LOT of GvG back in my glory days in GW1, so I’m no stranger to it at all.

I know I’m not supposed to agree w/ anyone on Maguuma but I’m afraid I have to here. I’m a big fan of GvG and did it for many years in GW1. I do wish Anet would listen to the players and give them what they want, a REAL GvG format, but having said that and considering their introduction of Custom Arenas, unfortunately I don’t see it happening. They could expand it to 10-12 players or more, but maybe there’s some underlying coding or server limitations in Spvp that I’m currently unaware of.

I was being tongue-in-cheek. Light fields on Statics are a constant bane in WvW. Obviously it’s silly for commanders to lose their minds over it…..but it’s really bloody annoying.

I got ya. Making mistakes is one thing, but trolling commanders is a bad idea. We had some guy in EB last night and again in Db tonight that kept hijacking golems. The guy gets in it and we’re trying to get him to come back, to which he replies “I’m just gonna take it for a spin”, so I guess he went off to farm onions or something in one of our golems.

To all: I apologize for this mucking up the thread.

Greens: I don’t care who you followed or who taught you what. Make the commitment, spend 100g, and learn that everyone who follows a commander hates their decisions. It’s the nature of being a commander.

2nd: The 2v1 thing is UNWRITTEN; meaning that if I decide to take the left side of a map, naturally whoever is on the right side knows that I am taking the left. We don’t mess with each other unless provoked. (well kitten.. now it is written…) You don’t contact other commanders on other servers to join them, no matter how out of the box you may think it is.

Here is the deal; TC will win, no one here can stop it. All we can do is decide if we want to jack with TC’s bl or Mag’s bl. Mag is hopefully cool and understands where their server is in the big scheme of things, so hopefully they understand that TC is the target. If not, they should understand they don’t have the numbers for a sustainable amount of time. As for DB, we understand… which is why we did a 50 Omega golem rush on TCBL to break all their waypoints…

Also Greens, you were TEMP banned, (which should be perma banned imho) which doesn’t amount to anything in the big scheme of things. Stop bringing this drama to the forums: you are making too big a deal over nothing.

Seriously though, I don’t know what commander you’re following, but I haven’t seen this “everyone hates the commander’s decisions” mentality you’re speaking of. This brings me to the conclusion you don’t grasp the concept of a really good commander. Like I said, buying a blue dorito hat doesn’t make you a good commander. Besides all this, and as I have repeatedly stated, there was not one commander I know of that was involved in this. Some replies to my posts have created far more drama than I ever could have alone. This reply of yours is included.

There is no rule that you cannot contact other commanders on other servers and agree to a mutual, albeit temporary, truce to overthrow a dominating server. It’s a design and idea that Anet developers indicated as a possibility LONG ago. There have been servers that have successfully done this to US. Take off your tunnel vision goggles and look around. The possibility is there, but you have to be mature and disciplined enough to accomplish something like this. The window of opportunity on this was small, and has since closed. Yes, TC will win. Might as well roll over and let them have it. Your PvDoor golem rush was no great accomplishment. Don’t pat yourself on the back too much there bud, it’s not that hard to do when virtually all of TC was asleep.

If you think I should have been perma banned from TS when never uttering a single word there, then you are part of the problem, not part of the solution. If you want pugs and/or guilds to join in on TS and coordinate with commanders, this is NOT how you should treat them. Certainly you can understand that, I hope.

Probably what happened was wrong, or harsh. Resolve it on DB forums. From what I’ve seen, people are pretty mature and reasonable there. Talk to other leaders of major guilds, and I’m pretty sure this could be resolved behind-the-scenes. No need to come here and create drama.

So you have never had a mic, which means you are probably new to commanding. Usually if you do something stupid commanding, people just stop following you. You don’t get banned from TS unless you are doing stupid stuff on TS.

I’ve got a mic/headset, but you’re missing the point entirely. You obviously missed some of my other posts that explained this. I don’t even have a commander tag. A tag doesn’t make you a commander, it just means you spent 100 gold to put on a blue dorito hat. I’m not at all new to commanding. I was here leading my guild members in up to three teams at any given time long before any of the current commanders were here. I learned from people like Edgar the Dyslexic, Kelvingts and Miss Terribad. Try commanding three teams with text chat only and see how well you do. I did it, and so did all of the commanders I mentioned above. It’s a lot easier when you’re all in the same guild and your teams are structured and disciplined to the task at hand.
I got banned from TS because someone in the channel decided to start calling me an idiot and many other names I won’t mention and I called him on it via in-game chat. Yes, I have a mic/headset, somewhere in the 50 or so boxes of stuff in the garage after recently moving and I’m just too kitten lazy to dig through them all to find it. So yes, I did get banned even though I never uttered a word on TS. If i wanted to do stupid stuff in TS, I’d go to our own channel so as not to disrupt others efforts. Just 1-2 minutes prior to being banned, I heard the guy telling someone to ban me from the server. What I thought was funny about the situation was they were muting me in TS when I wasn’t even speaking and they could clearly see my mic/ was disabled. This is how the buddy system and abuse of privileges work. Someone gets mad and all of the sudden they don’t want to let you play with their toys. LOL.

This thread is for trolling and chest thumping. Drama can be acceptable, but only if its outlandish and involves names and screenshots that show us nothing. If you wish for us to care about your drama, which on face value is kinda dull and run of the mill, you need draw us in like a good story teller.

It’s part of the game, not part of the server. Commanders have it rough, and are subject to critique when things go wrong. It gives some of them complexes, a heighted sense of importance and superiority. The really good commanders will ignore you. On the other hand the really good commanders probably have a much better grasp of good tactics and strategy, and don’t need the “help”.

But don’t kid yourself. Ten to one odds you were being obnoxious, and not just “simply proposing”.

The one pitching a fit wasn’t even a commander, didn’t even have a guild tag. He just happened to be in TS and rallied his online TS chat buddies. Anything out of the norm of tactics is met with great opposition, even if it’s a good idea. I logged out of the character I was on and came back with my main just to get this guy to shut up, but he immediately started PMing me. I beat the odds on this one, but I am nonetheless disappointed in my server mates with their actions. But you are definitely right about some commanders having superiority complexes. I just avoid those and run with the ones that are more respectful of the forces they’re commanding. No one wants to hear commanders telling people they’re stupid, ect. I’m no stranger to WvW, been here on Db from day 1 and started playing wvw on day 2. Pretty sure I know tactics as well as any commander on DB. Prior to DB getting the community TS server, my guild frequently fielded multiple strike force teams coordinated on our own TS server which I paid for personally. Prior to getting our own TS server, I text chat commanded 3 teams at the same time. Good commanders won’t get “tunnel vision” and can effectively “think outside the box”. But when you get one guy in chat starting an argument because of their inferior personality, they trigger a zerg effect where everyone else just wants to pile on.

I’m amazed that Anet hasn’t gone back to take a look at the origins of MMORPGs. I’m talking about MUD games, the old text based PK type format. For a non-graphical online game, it was some of the best PvP there was. Give players an option to be PK or non PK. Make the entire PVE areas open to PK and dump the two maps in WvW. I for one, am truly disappointed in this game because it doesn’t even come close to the hype they created about WvW and PvP. It makes me feel like a victim of bait and switch.

that would be all well and good, except…… there’s one key problem with all of it. the money people spend in the BLTC doesn’t go to Arenanet it goes to NCSoft. who then use that money to fund their other MMOs, including wildstar. so when you put in your credit card numbers, and think you’re helping to support Anet, you’re not. you’re helping to support wildstar. and, THAT, ladies and gentlemen is the reason for all of the focus being on 2 week living story stuff instead of the entire rest of the game. what they’ve been doing is setting up spring break and mardi gras, then filling the BLTC with souvenirs, and then try to lure as many tourists in as possible. those of us who have been playing the game since launch are the locals, and aren’t the target customer base for the giant tourist trap that GW2 has become. so they couldn’t care less about us. they only care about the money they can get out of the tourist they bring in with their constant stream of party events and worthless souvenirs, which are then used to fund the next big project.

ArenaNet doesn’t have ANY money, since they are fully owned by NCSoft. People also seems to ignore that the only reason we have GW2 is because of NCSofts other games (Aion, Lineage, Lineage 2 and City of Heroes) made enough money to finance the development of the game.
But for some reason people refuse to accept that NCSoft want to earn those money back.

GW2 is most likely their most successful game right now, so of course they will spend quite a bit of their money on it (the fact that they are constantly hiring people for different positions in ArenaNet should be a rather major hint).

The reason WvW will lose players on weeks like this is due to the terrible match making system. There is no reason a server of DB’s size should be against CD (don’t know much about sos). We honestly just don’t have the numbers to cover anything, it’s just zergs everywhere. Oh and as i said earlier, the fact that DB pushed our mini zerg all the way to the spawn stairs on EB made things so much better. Lol we get it you are a huge server, we have no chance, hell you are already up double our score, so why not show some class and at least let us get out of spawn before the bag farming starts. A few of us just sat on the stairs with the invulnerable buff and we were still targeted and fired at lol. It was ridiculous.

I guess people are bored. I don’t think any of the major DB guilds enjoy spawn camping. And fairweathers… well, nobody can control them. We face the same problem, when we play against JQ/TC etc.

I’m happy that we got to see some great GvG action at least.

Actually DB did drag 20 omegas on overlook twice.
And that was on this match up.

That was the 1st day and that was in respect to JQ.

Just last week, I recall JQ coming in one gate and FA coming in the other in our DB Bay, then the same thing happened the next night on our Hills. Prior to our Bay being taken, I observed FA and JQ zerging together at the west Sentry by Garrison. Yeah we got tag teamed by two servers at the same time more than once and seeing what I saw, it wasn’t a coincidence. DB still managed to keep a slight lead on FA for most of the week. Frustrating at times but I’d take that matchup instead of this one any day.

Yep, that’s the DB spirit. Except not. We have our own share of fairweathers. If you’ve been on DB long enough, you will know that.

From the limited amount I’ve played this week, I have seen SoS and CD fighting hard. We got wiped by CD a few hours back in their garrison. This weekend, SoS kept attacking SM relentlessly, despite smaller numbers.

A lot of us will take a JQ/TC match up too, over this one. But that’s not because SoS and CD did not come out to fight. They did. It’s just the matching system.

I’ve been on DB from day 1. I saw DB hemorrhage guilds and plummet in the ranking system we had back then. It wasn’t a pretty sight. We were pummeled left and right for months. It was absolutely the worst WvW playing experience I have ever seen. All I did during this time was roam solo and kill sentry points and an occasional straggler that dared to challenge me. It was boring and discouraging. Then DB got a couple of guilds and some SEA coverage and everything started looking up. I’m glad I stuck it out here on DB.

I will say this, when CD and SoS has comparative numbers, it’s going to be an excellent fight! I live for those battles, not the overall score.

I am sorry sos and cd. I tried many times to tell our commanders not to wipe everything and give you a chance to play. But they keep on killing everything to a point there is nothing for DB at this time to do.
I am a bit sad that we have so many immature kids on our servers. When we win, we destroy our opponents. When we lose, we are totally disorganize, give up so easily, and half our “zerg force” does not show anyhow.

You can save your apologies, we’re all (ok, most of us) adults here. It’s absurd to expect any server to pull punches when they have the advantage; especially since the ranking system punishes you for not doing so.

I can’t speak for CD, but SoS is use to coverage gaps and we know it goes with the game. We’ll just do what we can with the numbers we have, when we can.

As I said near the beginning of this thread, the outcome of this match has never been in doubt; but we’ve had some awesome fights so far and hopefully we’ll have a few more before Friday.

Remember; Sea of Sorrows is frequently outnumbered, but never outmanned.

My personal perspective is that if you beat us into the ground this week, it decreases the likelihood that we get a repeat match up next week. If you don’t, your score drops and we’re more likely to face you again.

Which, no offense, isn’t really the most fun.

There is a line of respect for your opponents. Spawn camping the stairs on EB is typically bad form.

Spawn camping the North camp on the BL’s is typically more accepted since you are so close to the spawn that there is great possibility for a good fight or two.
Even that has a limit. Anything more than 2 AC/2 Ballista is just being rude.

Personally I’m waiting for a server in this situation to spawn camp with Omega Golems and no people on foot. If someone is willing to drop that much cash on a spawn camp, I wouldn’t even be angry.

EB is pug central. Those guys are outta control. The EB TS (teamspeak) channel is almost unbearable to listen to with some DB commanders. Those of us that stick mostly to BLs are usually not that cheesy. Pugs are like walking your dog outside, he sees an enemy and thinks “Oooo Squirrel!! MUST CHASE IT!!”

Man I sure do miss the old GW1 GvG format, and all of the other PvP formats. Nice video and editing job btw. If Anet ever does introduce a real GvG system, I think it’s a long long ways away. It’s not a financially viable addition to the game. Think about it from that perspective. People that are true PvP fanatics will seldom, if ever, spend any RL money on gems, skins, ect. They will, however, spend hours playing PvP. Consuming bandwidth and server resources. Face it… the money trail follows the PVE path, unfortunately.

That isn’t my video btw, just one I found that does a nice job of showcasing the extreme amount of coordination, timing, and reaction speed that was required in GW1 GvG.

Aye, and a fine job of it. Refreshing to see an old school GW1 player that truly understands the mechanics of true PvP. So many things in GW1 PvP that depended on rock solid teamwork.

I personally am an FA NA member who plays on EB I can only describe Jade Bags and Dragonbags one way. Those two servers are like a baby’s butt; they are always getting wiped.

I was there for this too. I was also part of a simultaneous attack by JQ and FA on our bay where they hit both the northern and southern gates. Shortly before that, I saw some FA and JQ running together @ the sentry west of the garrison. It’s making me really stretch my imagination to believe these were all a coincidence. It does, however, impress me that these two servers would coordinate in a situation where one server alone would not be able to succeed in a full blown DB defense in either one of these scenarios. Can’t complain about a tactic that developers knew would happen and disclosed to us pre-release.

JQ is also enjoying a resurgence of fairweathers due to the steamroll, so groups of 50+ are hardly uncommon.

True… it’s WORSE. I stopped playing last patch when they went back to the old “broken culling” fix. TONS of LAG and Culling, impossible to play, much less enjoy it. If they come out with some lame kitten patch in March I doubt I’ll be playing much, if at all.

It’s crap. I play this game for PvE and nothing more.
I was addicted to PvP in GW1, played it for 6 years. Holding Hall of Heroes days on end, one of the first to achieve my awesome rank 12 Phoenix emote, playing in the most top-rated GvG guilds. I was so excited for GW2 PvP. But it just feels like Alliance Battles in gw1. Random, boring capping points. It’s not fun at all.

I laugh at anyone who calls GW2 PvP, and everyone who has played GW1 PvP knows what REAL PvP is and will agree with me.

I think it has a lot to do with the mechanics though. See, in GW1 you had to watch the field, position yourself correctly, watch for certain animations so you can interrupt them. Watch for certain players their playstyle, watch for ticks they did, patterns, and knowing how to counter them.
Even just making a skillbar took me forever, but I enjoyed it. Reading all the skills, thinking up different combo’s. There were times late at night where I would sit next to the skills guy with my notepad and making whole skillbars for an 8 man team to go try out. Thinking of every other ‘meta’ builds I might come across and picking certain ‘counter’ skills so we wouldn’t get blown up by these groups. Then gather some people and see if it worked.

In GW2 it just feels like you go in, do your normal combo (with hardly any variation), dodge some stuff, and repeat. Probably due to every skillbar being the same and having no build customization. And that’s not even considering the capping stuff, it’s just more fun to play deathmatch or whatever, but I’m sure they’ll add this playstyle some time in the future. It would definitely be a lot better than capping.

In short: It’s a disgrace to call what we have in GW2 ‘PvP’.

OMG Dude you sound SO much like me… late at night sitting there with a notepad making 8 man team builds. I even went so far as to test all the skills/builds on my heroes against REAL people in Guild Hall scrimmages (before they nerfed using heroes in GH). We got spoiled on the awesome PvP they gave us in GW1 I suppose. They even catered to the people like us by coming up with the Codex arena, testing your mettle to come up with builds based on a limited skill pool. I dearly miss the GvG and HA. I hope you’re right and they do change/add/diversify the build/skills system, but I’m afraid that if they don’t do it soon, there will not be anyone left to play with. Btw, I played GW1 for 7+ years and I hear PvP is active again there. I’ve been contemplating going back.

Out of the 70+ members we had, there are 3 left that log semi-daily. There are 3-4 people on my friends list that still log on. For the most part, all the people I started playing this game with have since quit. I quit wvw a week ago when they added the new patch. Way too much lag, culling, ect. Impossible to play. I posted opinions and facts on a topic and both got an infraction. I see a lot of fishing and time spent outdoors in my immediate future.

How dare a customer voice their opinion, we shall censor them because it paints us unfavorably!
…in any other business, wow the repercussions of that would essentially be career suicide. Right or wrong, if the customer has a reason to let you know something isn’t working for them, its a warning sign that service isn’t either communicating to them or meeting some fundamental requirement of theirs.

Like yourself, I pretty much couldn’t keep my old 70 strong guild in the game. I made new friends, started from scratch and moved on with the in-game events, but it saddens me that people I played with for 6-7 years aren’t around anymore to share it with.

I was buying GW2 on the premise that it wasn’t going to be another box sale like WAR or Aion that had maybe 5-6months of play before it started to stink to the point that you couldn’t live with it anymore. Now, I’m not so sure, I’ve checked out Camelot Unchained and not really convinced just yet that’s an alternative.

This is basically, my GW Nightmare:

Hey, you know those 8000 odd badges you had squirreled away on your condition necro and couldn’t use any of them to buy anything except for siege, well now they’re still the same but instead you can buy this other stuff with “Magic WvW Beans” (aka currency #24 in the game) that you can use to buy stuff, that you can actually use! How great is that?

Oh and sorry buddy, those 1200hrs you spent in wvw getting paid basically nothing but badges and Karma… well we don’t see that’s fair for new players that are part of the entitlement generation of gamers. They’re fairly special, so you’ll be starting from scratch because those kids need a ‘fair go’ at actually not having a veteran player deck them in 3 seconds because they’re running around in green/blue armour and never bothered to learn from their guild how to play in wvw and all run glass-specs.
So their ol uncle Anet is going to hold their hand… just that little bit longer.
You still get to spend your 2.4mil Karma though! On what that is actually useful we haven’t quite figured out, but we’ll let you know in another 3 months from now.

This is a valid point. And yes, the Thief is a profession that is more sensitive to hacking because the underlying design of the profession makes it harder to spot, and thus harder to get banned.

Speed hacking, both Thieves. And they both made sure to use it as much as possible while in Stealth. So its harder to tell if they hacked or if its just Thieves being Thieves.

I saw a zoom, speed and flying hacker video on youtube with the guys account info clearly visible in the video. I emailed him ingame and his account hasn’t been banned. This was months ago. He was using the hack in WvW.

I did PvP in GW1 every so often. When I did, it was pretty boring. GW1 game play just can’t compare to how action-orientated this game is. So PvP is a lot more fun, imo.

Battles in pvp were always predicable in gw1. You pretty much knew if you were going to win within the first 10s of a match. If one player died on someone’s team, that was a clear single that the other team had the advantage and would win.

With GW2 there’s actually more variation to how one can overcome their foe. So even though someone went down during a match, that doesn’t mean the other team is going to win. It’s awesome to how it works now.

I used to play the low level 1-10 arenas quite a bit back in the prime of GW1. Ascalon Arena was my absolute favorite. One player down? Ok no problem. Two players down? Ok no problem. Three players down? Ok well it looks like I’m gonna have to do this all by myself. I did it literally thousands of times. 222 consecutive wins was the longest I cold tolerate sitting for hours on end. Was it exciting? Hell yes it was! You missed out on a great PvP system obviously.
