In my view, Clock Tower is not fun [Merged]

EVERYONE, I HAVE BEEN FAILING THIS PUZZLE FOR 3 DAYS… I have a solutio though that I will do tonight.

MAKE A NORN, simple as that. The puzzle design is actually quite good, but the way they execute it fails worse than making a boat out of sponge. Norn and Charr make it unfair and make it so seeing your character is impossible and then seeing there to jump is not as worse but still bad. I will make a norn BECAUSE THEN I WILL ACTUALLY HAVE PROPER PLAYER CONTROL of where my character is going etc.

Don’t expect to magically get better at this JP just because you made a Norn or Charr. I found the puzzle just as difficult on my max size male charr as it was on my little asura.

The puzzle may be fine or not – it’s not the puzzle itself I am criticizing anyway or the thing I want to see changed. There’s like a short list of things which would be universally applicable to the game: camera and character model stacking/occlusion.
I pretty much lean towards making it soloable, if not directly then maybe by turning other players into ghosts :p

The idea of more content is nice so the issue of missing out an achievement (I never care for the loot anyway) diminishes. Maybe they could introduce some sort of puzzle which challenges the mind instead your fingers once. Like a complicated tactical puzzle with no preset condition (so you couldn’t youtube your way out of it).

Might be a good idea to work on a suggestion for next event, perhaps there’s a mini-game to be had that is more intellectual skill than twitch. Start something up in the suggestion forum if you can think of something.

Dalris: That’s definitely understandable and just like everything in MMO’s not all content is for everyone. You enjoy PvE exploration and leveling. Some enjoy structured PvP, some enjoy explorable dungeons, etc….

Luckily this little mini-game is a small part of what the game offers and is completely optional content so it sounds like you have the right attitude towards it, but won’t have to hand up your GW2 hat anytime soon as there are other aspects of the game you still enjoy.

Those who want to see the jumping puzzle changed or removed should instead ask themselves why, if others very much enjoyed that content, should it be changed to accomodate you when instead you could simply ask Anet for more content that you like instead next time and not force out or alter the content you don’t enjoy.

Why Not Make Lodestones Buyable For Dungeon Tokens?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Grim.6415

Grim.6415

I agree with this. I think the best part about it is encouraging people to run dungeons because we want them to be busy for a long time and they simply will not be once people are done getting their dungeon armours for their mains.

I think making the lodestones account bound is also a really good idea to discourage farming these to make gold and to prevent the lodestones from diminishing too much in value.

This is the best suggestion I’ve heard so far. It would be nice if this was in the suggestion forum although it would not receive as much attention there.

I’m wondering if this is a new generation of gamer or just a fundamental shift in the way games have developed over time.

I’m 31 years old and back when I was a kid games were harder. Games required practice and involved repeating the same scenario over and over again until you succeeded either through improving your own skills or tackling the problem in a different way.

Maybe a lot of gamers are either too young to remember/have experienced this kind of gameplay, or maybe you have become so used to MMO’s that you don’t enjoy the challenge of this “older” style of gameplay.

I think people are just used to MMO’s in that they reward people for time spent. There is very little actual skill required in earning things in MMO’s and people have become accustom to being able to throw time spend at a problem and they will succeed with a nice little progression tracker along the way to let you know you are being a good little gamer.

This jumping puzzle is a throwback to another era of video games in my opinion. A time when the development of muscle memory and practice were more important than the time you spent grinding the next tier of gear to overcome an obstacle.

In my opinion this jumping puzzle is a very different gameplay experience from the rest of GW2 and other MMO’s because of the explanation given above. As a result of this you will find a lot of gamers that expect the game to hold their hand and tell them that if you just keep doing something you will eventually be guaranteed to achieve success eventually and you are x% on your way to achieving that goal of yours so keep up the good work. This expectation can obviously lead to frustration, anger, or feeling betrayed when faced with a jumping puzzle that gives you nothing until you show you have mastered it and any time spent up to that point offers progression only in the form of honing your skills.

I believe Anet executed this very well. They made it a side game in side content (limited holiday content outside of main game) and made the reward suitable for the achievement.

Anet is not some evil corporation compelling you to do something you do not want to do. They are putting in a wide variety of mini games and content for a limited holiday release and putting it in for fun with a meager reward at the end.

My personal experience with the JP was that it took me about 2 – 2.5 hours with my little Asura Necro and I was frustrated when I failed and cursing myself for making mistakes but I steadily improved with a few minor regressions along the way where I messed up on earlier parts. When I made it farther and farther than before I was filled with adrenalin and excitement followed by more frustration when I failed, but I knew I was improving. When I finally succeeded I shouted out loud and pumped my fist in the air and that was a feeling I’m not used to from an MMO.

I would be fine if they completely stripped away the achievement and recycled most common skin exotic boots if it would remove the compulsion some players feel to do the mini game if it means I will have an opportunity in the future to be challenged similarly so I have the chance to feel my own personal sense of accomplishment.

Just because there is a boring optional achievement available doesn’t mean you should do it. What you are telling us is you don’t want to do it. The answer is simple. Then don’t because there is plenty of other things to do.

Halloween Weapons & Mad Undercutting

Grim.6415

Well for me I sold my Mad moon for 15G last night because:

1) I got it on my second run with no effort and another guildy running with me got in on the 5th and last run of the night so the supply is clearly high and I wanted to sell while the profit was decent still.

2) I’ve never enjoyed the playstyle of using a shield on my warrior (main).

3) I don’t care for the skin at all.

I looked at the Mad Moon shield as a sinking ship that I needed to price aggressively to sell given the fast price dropping due to the factors listed above I did not want to be immediately undercut before I sold and have to pay a listing fee and then re-list and try to sell for what I could have posted it for originally and sold immediately.

Grim.6415

Why are people spending real money on these items??? The skins are already on sale for gold on the market. Just farm gold kitten

Probably because 30g takes what about 20+ hours to farm (at least for a normal person) and for a lot of people that’s maybe 1-2 hours wage to buy with real money.

If there is something I REALLY want and I can spend one hours wage to buy or grind for 10+ hours then I will seriously consider buying it and using my time to play more enjoyable/challenging aspects of the game.

I realize not everyone has the disposable income to do this, but you need to realize that not everyone has the disposable time to farm.

Even the best gold famers with the best gold/magic farming gear would have a hard time getting 30 gold in 6 hours.

For someone new to gold farming without great gear they are lucky to get 1gold per hour. I don’t know about you but 30 hours farming for gold sounds awful compared to putting in 1-2 extra hours of RL work in and just buying the thing as he suggested.

I think this skin might drop a bit more. It fell from 40g to 30g within the last day or so (last time I checked) so hopefully it will trend downwards. If it continues to drop up until the 30th or 31st then snag it before the end of the event when there stops being more added to the market.

Just my suggestion, but I’m far from rich and knowledgeable about the economy.

I think the true test, in my eyes anyways, will be what Anet does for the Wintersday event. Will they learn from the mistakes and make the truly desirable skins/items available without RNG. I don’t care if they keep the RNG method in there, but as long as they allow a straight purchase for these things then I will see that they have taken the feedback from this event to heart.

It’s too late to change this event without making players mad one way or the other, but Wintersday can learn from these mistakes.

YES but only 5 keys

3. If you would not buy trading post material/gamble, would you support direct to buy weapon skins and what general price do you find acceptable from a business standpoint both as a customer and realizing that they must make money as a business?

Absolutely Yes

4. Do you believe that future events will also be handled with random number generation to make profit based on limited time item acquisition?

I hope not, but yes.

5. If you believe that the future events will be handled in the same manner, does this realization negatively effect your trust of Arena Net in regard to handling micro transactions for permanent content?

Only to do with RNG purchases which I won’t touch now or in the future.

I really do wish it was more efficient to farm appropriate mobs/dungeon for these lodestones than it is to farm gold, but that is simply not the case. in Suggestions

Grim.6415

I was tempted to post this in the general discussion or Halloween event for the higher traffic, and I hope it will not be ignored by anet or other players here.

Below are some simple instructions to take my money in a far more efficient manner for future events or just in general.

First let me sum up the things I have purchased to date:

3 additional character slots (I don’t even have time to play them all, but I knew I wanted one for each profession (I bought these in GW1 as well): 2400 gems

Additional Bank storage: 600 gems

Primeval armour skin: 500 gems

Crafting booster pack: 150 gems

Black Lion Chest keys: 450 gems

These were all purchased with real money and none of it was converted from in game gold as I only have about 15g to my name.

Planned future purchases:

Either the Witch or Mad king costume (yet to decide and only because the skills they offer for costume brawl). 700 gems

Krytan and Profane armour sets if they look good on my alts when they reach 80 and I can put them on some exotic gear. 500-1000 gems

Recommendations for future offerings at the gem store:

Offer more cool armour/outfit skins that can be used in combat similar to your chest RNG chance.

Offer some cool weapon skins that can be used in combat similar to your halloween chest RNG chance.

Offer the permanent banker/TP access that can be used anywhere similar to your chest RNG chance.

Complete aesthetic remakes for my characters (completely back to the character creation screen other than same race and storyline decisions locked in still) I understand this one might be in the works already.

A really cool emote pack that will display huge cool emotes like a dragon swooping down or something neat like that. Make it so either they can’t be spammed or people can filter out seeing these things if they are to obnoxious in towns or large gatherings.

A permanent movement speed increase in town that is not consumable and can just be toggled.

Anything that can avoid huge grind for me and not give me a gameplay advantage, just time savings.

What I will not buy from the gem store:

Almost any consumable. The crafting one was a pretty decent time saver for the level increases so that was a bit of an exception. I like to have something tangible at the end of the day.

Any more keys for RNG chance of getting something. I consider my luck as poor and I was not disappointed with the 5 keys I purchased and the 3 I had laying around which I used during this event.

RNG chances for minipets. There are probably a few minipets I would spend money on, but random packs don’t tempt me. I pretty much never use the minis from my hom rewards so this isn’t a big draw for me anyways.

RNG chances at dyes. Once again with my perceived poor luck I won’t take the chances on dye. Separate them and offer each for a fair price and I would consider it.

Of all my purchases the only one I am unhappy with is my most recent purchase of keys which I gambled on and lost. Either your keys cost way too much or the rewards that I want are too poor a drop rate or I just shouldn’t gamble. I’m not angry and it hasn’t soured me from the gem shop completely, but I will never purchase anything relying on RNG again.

You now have some insight into what makes this gamer open his wallet and what makes me annoyed when it comes to your RNG offerings. I do not represent all gamers and my spending habits may not be the same as others, but if anyone else has suggestions on what they did/would/wouldn’t buy then please post that as well.

@ Arciel

You mention that the market will float around the stability point unless something causes a shock and I would be fine if it was around the stability point because then I could chose my method of gaining the lodestone, but right now it is about 5 times more effective to gold farm than corrupted lodestone farm so I can either choose to be an idiot because I enjoy actually playing the game by solo farming, or I can play “smart” and mindlessly grind events an cursed shore for gold and buy them off the TP much much easier.

That’s a lousy choice.

The biggest problem is for people that don’t have/use guides that tell them exactly what they need for cooking. For those that are just playing with their own knowledge and trying to mix and match things I never want to get rid of something that I think might be an ingredient for a later recipe because I will never know if it is part of a discovery unless I have it available to try.

If I was just power leveling and reading a guide it wouldn’t matter.

Arciel:

Here’s the problem with the way it works right now. Not only do I not want to have to be forced to farm events to be efficient at making gold because that’s the only way to reasonably get that many lodestones (because you can’t farm them within reason) but what will happen when the majority of players figure out that the best way to get what you want is to farm events to make gold and then buy from the TP?

Once everyone figures out that gold farming is the smartest way to get what you want and everyone is doing that then there will be less people farming and putting the actual lodestones on the market. The price will increase as the gold farmers compete for dwindling stock (from the players who just happen upon the occasional lodestone through normal play and put on TP) and more people will be swarming these events until the market adjusts to a point where the lodestones cost much more where it’s actually about the same time investment to farm gold as it is to farm the mats. Until that point has been reached it bothers me that I need to do this brainless gold farming to get the lodestones I want unless i want to spend 5 times as much time farming them myself.

Drop rate of lodestones

in Crafting

Posted by: Grim.6415

Grim.6415

I agree that the drop rates are unreasonable. I’ve been trying to put together a Corrupted weapon because I’m nowhere near saving enough for a legendary and I figured the corrupted would be a nice skin that a casual player such as myself can achieve without too much pain.

To my surprise after 5+ hours of farming I have only been able to get 2 of them. My time and effort would be much better spent farming gold and purchasing the items than actually attempting to kill the mobs that should drop these.

The best way to achieve the items you want should not always be to farm gold in the most efficient way possible and buy from TP. I find in most of the Orr events there are so many people there that I have a hard time getting credit for tagging mobs before they die and with not even an ounce of effort required in killing the mobs in these large groups I feel like I’m not really “playing” the game and instead I just need to be the most efficient at tagging mobs and knowing where to go next which is really boring for me.

Please allow me to solo the mobs that drop these and have my time spent doing that roughly equal to event farming for gold which I feel is barely even playing the game.
