Would anyone complain if they just took the AP from HoM rewards and only counted it towards the AP rewards but not the leaderboard?
This way the GW1 vets are able to get a little further progress on these relatively trivial AP rewards but the leaderboards remain “competitive” for those that take them seriously.
As someone who has 30/50 HoM this wouldn’t botehr me one bit.
Really enjoyed the cutscene and story this time around as well. Great job.
I bought maybe twenty keys at halloween and got nothing worthwhile, just some shoulder skins that were pretty meh.
I went until Southsun before buying more RNG boxes and decided I would keep buying until I got 1 ticket. I bought in packs of $35 and bought the 10 crates at a time. I had to buy the $35 worth of gems 4 times for I believe 90+ crates before I finally got 1 ticket. Only other items worth anything at all were the 2 mini farens I got for 4g each.
That’s a disgustingly poor return for $140 spent in my opinion. I now won’t touch RNG boxes at all and I would encourage others to stay away from them as well.
I’ve made other purchases with money in the gem store for 3 additional character slots, bank storage increase, Primeval armour set, Mad King’s costume, Unlimited mining Pick, a couple boosts.
I didn’t buy the most recent Braham and Rox skins because I have no characters that use those items. Sell some axe/sword/greatsword/staff/dagger/pistol skins and I’ll be all over it though.
“Sir, the possibility of successfully getting a ticket in a box is approximately three thousand, seven hundred and twenty to one!”
Nicely done sir.
I lol’ed
I haven’t played since last night but the lag was pretty terrible. I was playing around 10pm PST and I couldn’t stand playing much longer than it took me to finish my daily.
I haven’t changed anything with my system recently.
Running i5 3570K OCed to 4.5Ghz
Radeon 7950
Installed on an SSD
Drivers haven’t changed recently
Maybe it was just one bad night but it’s the first time I played since the update and it sounds similar to those suffering from lag problems now as well.
It wasn’t completely unplayable but it would have a steady delay in most of my inputs that really made the game feel disconnected and not fun.
Oh and I played some Marvel Heroes right afterwards with no lag issues.
I completely agree with the OP. If RNG is here to stay then I think it’s fair that we know the odds of what we are paying gems for. Keep the odds on any dropped RNG boxes a secret for all I care, but if I’m paying gems directly for something I would like to know the odds.
I’ve sworn off RNG after what I felt was a poor investment (90 southsun crates for 1 ticket). I would have liked to have known the odds before I spent that money. I’m not mad about it as I chose to spend the money with unknown odds. I simply won’t do that again.
I too have spent money on Gem store, I have purchased at least 10$ worth of gems via credit card, and still haven’t received mail and minis.
7 minutes before you in this very thread someone posted that they JUST got their mini’s. Obviously they are still being sent out. I’m sure you will get yours.
Maybe Anet can make you happy by offering a better 1 year anniversary reward based on the edition of the game you bought. Maybe a rarer mini or something. Why don’t you put that in the suggestion forums.
Those people that think ANet is being generous by giving you free packs as a thanks for supporting the game you’re quite wrong, you already gave them your money and a free packs means nothing compared to the 10 bucks you’ve paid don’t let the chest blind you.
While it’s true you’re supporting the game, you’re also encouraging them to keep the RNG stuff.
Not if I don’t buy RNG stuff.
The good news is the free mini’s are not unique. You can just convert a bit more gold to gems and get them without spending any additional money.
Think about it like this. If you went to an amusement park and paid the admission fee would you be mad that only those that spent additional money on ride tickets were rewarded months later by a stuffed animal in the mail?
No reason to be sorry. Enjoy.
Did you spend any RL money on gems? That is the criteria for the free mini’s
I love how people can’t just get something without assuming there is some dark motive.
Thanks ANet for the thank you and please ignore all the complainers. We will keep supporting you.
Lol, so naive… This is merely a marketing trick. You get a thank you with something worthless in terms of game currency along with a thanks for your support when they know people have started to complain about their current content release pattern. This is no different than going to Subway and getting a foot long for only 5$ if you buy a coke or buy this whole set of furniture and get this table free. Is just an intensive to take your money, to make you think the company cares about you.
Actually it’s very different because when you chose to spend your money on the item you got that item. The furniture store didn’t show up months later with a free end table when I bought my bedroom set. But you know if they did… I would say thank you.
There’s nothing wrong with Anet encouraging people to continue supporting the game. Without those willing to spend money on the gem store this game would not have the staff capable of continuing to produce the content other players are enjoying for free. It’s not an evil motive, it’s just business.
A better analogy would probably be that if everyone paid admission to the fair but only those that spend money on tickets for rides are sent a free stuffed animal as a thank you months later, then no one would be angry. Only because it’s entitled gamers on the internet does this because a cause for complaint.
I’m sure it will take time for them to roll this out to all the people if that is in fact legit.
I was ready to thank Anet for adding an alternative method to obtaining weapon skins with this event but clearly my interpretation of Rich Dragon coffers and Dragon coffers based on the promotional dragon bash page was incorrect.
When you say I can get a ticket in the Rich dragon coffers and a rare chance at a ticket in the regular coffers that means to me that the Rich dragon coffers would always have a ticket in it. Obviously I was being optimistic or foolish (take your pick). The realization that Anet has made a second method of RNG for crates and lead me to believe that was a guaranteed method through the promotional notes has really disappointed me. My fault for assuming Anet was following our request for a way to BUY skins without RNG.
I consider myself a valuable customer. I only have about 350 hours played yet I’ve spent around $350 dollars on GW2 already. I’ve played the RNG game and I won’t do that again (90 southsun crates bought with RL money for 1 ticket) but I never complained that I wasted my money or wrote any nasty posts to Anet because I knew what I was buying and that RNG is RNG, but suffice it to say I’m done with RNG now. I feel like enough feedback about wanting an alternative to RNG has been provided to ANet and I really felt that they had an answer to it with the Rich dragon coffers until I learned the truth today.
I don’t have a sense of entitlement and I’m not here to threaten quitting forever or until Anet “fixes” RNG being the only way to acquire weapon skins. I will be closing my wallet to any RNG in the future though, and I’m just here to say:
Anet I like your game and I would like to continue supporting you with real money but right now I don’t feel like you are listening and you are kitten ing me off.
Feel free to share your thoughts and tell Anet what YOU think.
“Rich” means guaranteed ticket. Normal one like Southsun drop in the world and by participating in events.
Where did you find stated “Rich Dragon Coffer” = “Guaranteed Ticket”? Please provide a source for the sake of everyone being properly informed. Also, in answering, be careful that the source you provide directly answers this very important point without ambiguity. Thanks!

I just assume anyone that is interested took the minimal amount of effort to be informed by reading the official page.
My original link leaves no ambiguity to anyone that has read this official page.
You’re welcome.
They aren’t just rng. From the dev live stream: " Rich Dragon Coffer can be purchased from the gemstore, normal ones can be dropped in the open world."
Isn’t this also the case with southsun chests ? And the fused weapons ?

Doesn’t the quest directions in the top right of the screen give you a quick 1 line description that you need to disarm the mines?
It’s funny, I was just thinking about having a hard time keeping up with all there is to do currently. Yeah I’m a casual by most standards probably only get about 8-10 hours a week to play GW2.
I took a break for about 4-5 months and came back in time to do the FnF content and now Southsun. Between completing all of the new content, trying to farm a skin, level an alt, work on my main’s dungeon armour set, do dailies for laurels, and thinking about fractals for ascended items… I really struggle to keep up with it all.
I’m just glad this is a game where I can fall behind in the content but still be able to tackle the hardest dungeon or other content if I so desire and not be gated behind a gear grind. I don’t make the time to Raid because to me it’s not a priority for me but I completely respect those that do.
To me I stopped playing WoW because I didn’t Raid and without that there wasn’t much I wanted to do. There were some 5 mans I participated in (dungeons like in GW2) but without needing to gear towards raiding I was just in it for the 5 man gear I wanted. Then when the 5 mans became pointless (only the most recent 5 mans are worth grinding for gear, the rest is old content not worth doing) it was literally go PvP or level an alt and that’s it. Not being interested in PvP I would have some new content when an expansion was released and that’s about it. Didn’t mesh well with me so I just stopped. Never complained on the WoW forums about it because I knew there was content considered endgame that I just wasn’t participating in. That’s on me, not the game.
That being said, you can claim there is no endgame in GW2 and not enough content but that likely just means you don’t prioritize the content GW2 has any more than I prioritize Raiding in WoW. If you’re inclined to participate in all the activities and content I’d say GW2 is doing as well in providing quantity of content as any other MMO. If you don’t participate in the content then that’s on you.
It’s just a different flavour of content and it tends to work better for myself personally.
Just my casual .02 cents
@Bobby
I really like the instanced storytelling because it feels like I have time to absorb the story more. When in a dynamic event you often get swept up in a Zerg and can barely see what you are attacking let alone take in the nuances of any storytelling.
That being said I know you don’t want a dead open world by pushing everything to instances so I think the most important part is keeping the character development and main storytelling in the instances then have some obvious beat you over the head one liners mixed into the open world stuff.
Keep up the good work.
First I’m sure that sounds nastier than you intended it but wow
Second I did not see anywhere that it said it would be in USD. It knew the country of billing was NZ so why would I expect it would still charge me in USD without saying anything
Wasn’t intending to sound rude. I can understand how it was unclear what currency, but you gotta assume if ppl could get more gems by converting to Nz then purchasing at the same ratio of dollars per gems that it would be abused. Hopefully they clarify for future purchasers.
Could be worse Airwick. It took me 90 crates for 1 ticket. I think quitting the game after spending $120 will just make you feel worse about wasting your money. Why don’t you just freeload on the servers and enjoy your two skins and most importantly never buy RNG boxes again if they make you feel crappy about a game you otherwise enjoy.
As for myself I decided I really wanted one skin so I spent as much as I needed to in order to have it. Was it too much for what I got? Absolutely, but I worked some RL overtime and it worked to about 2 hours of overtime to pay for it which is better than my luck at farming would have been.
Heck if it took me 90 crates of farming it would have taken me like 40+hours to attain one. Almost makes me feel like I got a good deal, how sad is that haha.
Anytime you are assuming you’ll get as good a deal as paying in USD but your currency is worth less then you can bet that it will not work like you think/hope it will.
There’s a first world problem joke in here somewhere.
Took me about 90 crates to get one. Sucks to have spent so much gold and still end up not getting what you wanted, I feel for you OP.
I’m not sure why everyone suggests an expansion pack. There is tons to do now as it is. I’m very new to GW2…never played GW at all before. But I have to say….I’ve never been so bored with a game that offers so much to do. I think they really need to readjust some things.
I could list a million issues as to why I’ve only been playing for a few months but am utterly bored with this game. The chances that staff/developers read this information is at best minimal. I’m beginning to feel as if I wasted $60.00 on purchasing this game. If GW2 continues as it has, I won’t be purchasing anything else developed by ArenaNet. In essence, I’ve paid real money to not want to play a game, and that’s just silly.
Can you be specific on what your issues are? For me there seems plenty to do in the game.
The biggest issue for me is zones being empty and not being able to find groups for dungeons.
Even though I doubt this is possible, but it would be sweet if ANet could offer an option to put a bunch of people in the same zone, much like an overflow server but it does the opposite.
Instead it puts people around the same level in a zone together so it helps populates empty zones.
Use www.GW2lfg.com if you want to find groups. I’ve been able to find groups in a couple minutes easily this way.
I worked some IRL overtime and decided to purchase gems in bundles of $35 until I got a weapon ticket to treat myself. I bought $140 US worth of gems and bought as many crates as I could.
It was 1am when I was buying them and I didn’t track exact numbers but:
850ish Karka shells
300ish passion fruits
100ish flowers
2 mobile stations (consumable)
2 or 3 slaying potions
1 Breathing mask skin
1 Island shoulder skin
2 Mini Faren’s
1 Weapon ticket
Took the Greatsword skin for my warrior. Sold most of the crap and used the karka shells to trade in for Ancient Karka Shell accessory.
Would I do it again? Nope I will treat myself to something else next time.
Did I waste my money? Absolutely but I went in knowing it was a waste and I could afford to waste it
Would I recommend it to others? Not a chance
You’re welcome Anet but don’t think I will be so charitable with my money next time
I had planned on skipping this particular one achievement point as I did not want to waste my time on the JP just to do it. I have done JP’s before including the Mad King’s clock tower so I know that I am capable but my time is too precious for one measly achievement point that was not needed for completion.
As luck would have it I was walking by when some free ports were happening and I took the free ride.
Do I feel like I didn’t earn the title? No because I in fact DID earn the title regardless of this one achievement point.
Do I feel like I mastered that JP? Of course not because I got ported rather than did the JP.
Can I sleep at night knowing this? Like a baby.
Ya I think on top of the annoyance/frustration of fighting most of the mobs in Southsun there is also IMO frustration is getting around the place as well. Having to run way around to get up out of the water and knowing I either need to wade through tons of obnoxious enemies or avoid them all while I run halfway around the map is adding to the overall annoyance of the zone.
My suggestions:
1) Telegraph the skills that make you lose control of your character or massive amounts of health a bit better (up the regular damage in between if necessary to retain challenge)
2) Make it a little easier to get out of the water and where you want to go in some areas of the map. Or perhaps a bit more space between some mobs if you just want to get from point A to point B.
I will show my feelings towards this RNG nonsense by not purchasing any RNG chests, crates, keys etc.
Furthermore because I think GW2 is awesome I will spend a reasonable amount on guaranteed items/skins from the Gem shop as I see fit.
So far I’ve purchased Primeval set, halloween costume, molten pick, extra character slots, bank tab. I seriously thought about the Rox and Braham skins but I don’t have 80’s that use those weapon types.
Forum whining will not sway Anets decision regarding this. Speak with your wallet and be heard.
They wouldn’t do it if people didn’t pay for it. Tell anyone else in the game what a terrible waste it was and hope that eventually people will stop buying into the RNG cash shop items.
I have to hope that eventually everyone will get burned and learn the lesson but so far that obviously hasn’t happened yet.
Snip
That seems reasonable to me as well. I bought the CE, 3 extra character slots, bank expansion, primeval set, mad king costume, all of which I felt pretty good about because I knew what I was paying for.
I spent another $20 or so in the gem store during the karka event on chest keys and can’t really say I was very happy with the shoulder skins I got out of it. Haven’t bought any keys since. I don’t think I would spend any more on RNG skins at this point but I gave some serious thought to the shield/mace but I just don’t use them on my main’s setup.
I did try my chance at the rng monster and I knew full well my chances when I did. If I didn’t get a ticket I can only blame myself as they are optional and in no way help my character other than visual “prettyness”. Around 170 ish keys, 4 tickets. 2 daggers, 1 shortbow, 1 greatsword. My guardian has the new mace/shield + fused GS, my thief has the fused daggers, short bow, and new quiver.
I’m genuinely curious how you feel about the purchase and the RNG after the fact? By my math if you spent money for all the keys that would be approximately $190. Would you do it again? Is it something you are content to pay every couple of months for new skins or was it more a one time thing? What about compared to the Mace/Shield skins you bought separately?
Emissary of the mad king because I had the most fun getting that one.
+1 on the RNG hate.
Anet i dont understand, you nailed this issue with the quiver/bow/mace/shield skin… Dont take a step backwards now.
I got lucky and got 3 tickets for fused skins out of 80 chest. havent looked at the new ones yet but i hope they sell them in the gem store so if i do like 1 i can just buy it
It’s sad when players feel LUCKY to spend over $20 for a few weapon skins. Even sadder when others spend $50+ and get none lol.
I spent 500 gems on the Primeval set because it was good value to me. The Braham and Rox skins were pretty tempting, if they packaged them together as a set for some savings I probably would have done it.
For every person they burn with chest RNG they are losing out on future sales, this can’t be a sustainable model for very long.
Welcome to the been there got burned club. Although I never spent nearly as much as you and it was back on the halloween chests when I learned never to buy black lion keys ever again.
You can choose if you want to enter story mode or explorable when you approach the dungeon.
You can bring someone into explorable if you have completed story mode yourself or anyone in the party if they have completed story mode can load an explorable version of the dungeon for the rest of the party.
You should have full compliment of 5 people for the Ascalon Catacombs.
I know exactly what you mean. I’m returning after taking a break. The grind towards many of the game’s goals just make me not want to bother logging in sometimes.
Now that I’m feeling a bit more keen to get back into the new content I feel like I can’t complete it because it’s either temporary and/or bugged.
Also I can’t play during the day on weekends so I’m a bit discouraged that all future finale events will occur and I won’t be able to experience those either.
GW2 is not oriented on farming for a specific item, though you get a ton of lodestones in Fractals; if you get the ones you don’t want you sell them to buy the ones you want.
Didn’t know that. Only ever tried Fractals once. Might have to give fractals a real try when I come back to playing the game.
Thanks for the answers guys. Doesn’t sound like too much has changed on that front.
As the title says I haven’t played in a while (not with any regularity since December I’d say)
I’m just curious if you can reasonably find upgraded gear through drops yet at level 80. I’m particularly interested in dungeon runs but even just doing dailies or whatnot out in the world would be good as well.
I never did get an upgraded or max level exotic piece of gear for my character out of quite a few dungeon runs and playing in lvl 80 zones.
Before leaving I started grinding for CoF armour for my main but quit after three pieces as I realized it wasn’t fun for me. I really enjoy the excitement of a good drop and will farm for items if I feel that I have a half decent chance of getting a drop I can actually use after 3 hours of dungeon running or farming.
Between trying to farm lodestones (I wanted an icy Greatsword iirc) and dungeon running I felt that the exciting drop moments were anywhere from non-existent to incredibly few and far between.
I don’t want t gear treadmill at all, but I really enjoy playing the game, preferably challenging content (dungeons) rather than grinding (farming) and after a few hours of playing, having a reasonable chance at a drop my character can use as a new skin or for an alternative primary stat setup to complement existing gear.
Maybe I just had incredibly bad luck or I was doing it wrong but the ONLY time I felt the excitement of a cool drop that didn’t feel like a grind was getting the Mad King’s shield during the event where you killed the boss to pop the chest. Had a buddy that also had the shield drop and another got the bow after running that dungeon for a few nights. That was the most fun I had after level 80 in this game.
I wasted money on some gems and ended up with a few skins that were kind of cool I thought about putting on 80 exotic items then realized I would have to buy or craft an 80 exotic to put the skin on which just felt tedious to me.
So I am asking if the drops have been altered so if I for example run a dungeon path 2-3 times I can expect to get a level 80 exotic piece of gear or some drop of any kind that my lvl 80 exotic geared main may want to gear for an alternative build that isn’t a downgrade from what I can just craft myself?
Thank you for taking the time to answer rather than me pouring through dev blogs or patch notes for quite some time to figure it out.
Also if I was simply doing it wrong before and there is a way to spend a few hours of fun content (not gold farming and buying off TP) and have a reasonable chance of being rewarded with a sidegrade drop then please let me know. Thanks.
I’ve been running the Yojack build and it is great for dungeons and PvE, but I was hoping to make a Greatsword build just to spice things up a bit. Looking for something that can be useful in dungeons and PvEing.
Half the reason is looking for an excuse to get another armour set with the vigil armour going.
Thanks in advance.
Well I’m married with 3 kids and I get up just around 6:15am every morning whether it is for work or kids (who are used to getting up when I do for work). They go to bed at 7pm and I need at least 1 hour to do chores after the kids are in bed.
This means if I want to get a normal 8 hours sleep in that I would be dedicating every single moment of my life not spent working or with my kids to playing GW2. I realize not all people have this schedule and it’s my choice. I could be a poor husband and a poor father by ignoring my kids and wife by playing video games but I choose not to.
I generally play once every 2nd or 3rd night for about 3 hours at a time with a bit here or there on the weekend if the family is out which gives me about 10-12 hours a week most weeks.
I think if I dedicated all my spare time to farming one item in one game for months I need to take a second look at the value of doing that. If it’s through fun gameplay then maybe, monotonous farming… no thanks.
Then maybe MMO’s aint a genre of games thats suitable to your lifestyle. I spent 15 years working my kitten off to be at a place now where I get up when I want. Do what I want. If I wanna play GW2 for 15 hours I can. When I couldnt play ANY games cos I was to busy I didnt think “Oh lets buy something I just cant get any value from.”
The problem alot of MMO’s face is that they want to be casual friendly but then some jump down their throats when they do anything for the players that wanna invest more time.
2 HOURS A DAY ?
Ok fine if you are a school kid with nothing to do, or a student or unemployed.
So what am I then since I dont fit In any of your silly little groupings.
Or I could just not care about the legendary and spend my free time playing the game in a way that is actually fun.
GW2 as an MMO is perfectly suitable for my playstyle because even with my limited time I’ve got a level 80 in exotics, I can play WvW, I can run dungeons, I can work on map exploration or any number of other things. I just won’t likely work towards a legendary because it’s too much of a time investment and I’m ok with that.
I can spend 12ish hours a week and still do all the content that’s out there, heck I even did the mad king’s clock tower jumping puzzle when it came up.
If the only difference between this and someone that plays 40 hours a week is the 40 hour person has a different skin and more money in the bank then I won’t be losing any sleep over it haha.

I greatly enjoyed the event overall.
Things I liked the most:
Mad King scavenger hunt.
Clock tower jumping puzzle
Mad King dungeon/boss fight
Mad King Labyrinth
Loot in chests that were repeatable
Costume Brawl (although some rewards might be cool if you can structure something more competitive)
Free devil horns
Mad King says with Witch hat reward
Things I didn’t like:
Pumpkin carving
RNG gambling on chests for Skins/loot
Ridiculous cost of crafting halloween weapons
Awesome event I really enjoyed it. However please make the holiday event skins/loot a little less prestigious for future events. I would have loved some of the skins from participating in the holiday event, but my luck isn’t that good and I didn’t want to gamble for them either.
are these the same runes that are only about 40 silver to buy on TP?
Because those that cannot complete the puzzle would complain ever more about the puzzle if there was a halfway decent reward to be had.
Even as it is I see so many threads of people saying they did this for their friends anyways so it still doesn’t mean much for bragging rights.
I know I beat it on my Asura and that’s what matters to me.
