Why are we being punished for using overloads? Why cant we just use it instantly instead of 5seconds? Why do we get increased cooldown on attunements after its used? Why long cast times?
It doesnt make sense to me and is pretty much against what elementalist is supposed to be / currently is.
Making the overloads insta cast wouldn’t make sense because you have to “accumulate” the natural energy of the element in other to physically manifest it. The cooldown though, seems really long (20secs really), despite it can be justified that it’ll take long to “accumulate and harness the deep powers of the elements” after you “exhausted” it…perhaps 20secs is way too long.
I don’t know if people have already asked this or maybe I didn’t notice the change (if it truly exists) but does the Grandmaster major trait Persisting Flames increase the duration of the fiery tornado left on the ground after Overload Fire?
I just would like to share this with you guys because it’s so beautiful the scenes and all

My feedback:
I really don’t know what is the purpose of Tempest since D/D cele ele already does what Tempest does (frontline support?). Aside from that I don’t really get other usages for Tempest. Let me look into Chronomancer: they got AoE supportive skills (both offensive and defensive, which was something mesmers were lacking because glamour skills were only defensive abilities) and they got Alacrity buff. It’s a new way to play your profession without losing its core mechanichs. Now let’s re-take a look into Tempest’s theme: frontline support…really?
Overloads
Can’t stand a chance against mesmers unless you put some stability on it. The fire overload has pretty low radius. The water overload scales poorly with your healing power. The air overload is just meh. The earth overload seems to make you appear like a boss but without stability the defiance bar is just another addon.
Why not add cool things to overloads if you don’t plan to rework them? Isn’t Tempest about frontline support? Add area retaliation to fire overload, area vigor to water overload, area quickness to air overload and area resistance to earth overload. One thing that bugs me out is that elementalists don’t have interesting condi and buffs like torment, confusion and poison and resistance.
Shouts
Since 2012 I’ve been playing this game and I always identified myself with staff (Yes! I main an ele). The shouts are awesome but I feel they tie better with staff. And lacking of any traits to reduce shouts’ cds is just unacceptable.
Elite Skill: Rebound
Rework it.

Nah, I just think I should be paying the same price as anyone else. Not spending twice as much for people that haven’t been around for the long haul.I’m saying they can wipe all of my stuff off my account. I know exactly what to do to get it all back, they haven’t given me anything through the years to make my account special anyways lol
You are getting HoT for the same price as everyone else, all the Veterans as you call us either paid $50, $70 or $100 for the expansion…on top of the $50 or what ever we paid for the original game 3 years ago. You’re not any more special than any other veteran, we all get the same deal. As for saying it’s been the same content for the past 3 years, obviously you skipped LW Season 1 and didn’t play any of LW Season 2 or Southsun Cove, DryTop and Silverwastes….you completely ignored those areas and stayed within the base game.
I still dont understand how people use the LW seasons and things in the game as a reason to have to pay the 50 bucks because in the end didnt you have to pay for the LW seasons?
No, you didn’t. If you pay $50 for Guild Wars 2 and logged during LW Season 1 and 2 then it’s for free, and forever. If you paid $50 for Guild Wars 2 but didn’t log during LW Season 2, then I’m really glad to tell you that you will have to buy if you want to play that season. Easy to understand?
Is it going to be before PAX Prime? Will we be able to play Rev’s elite spec? Please please!
No, and I don’t think Mordremoth will ever speak to any PC, because I don’t think the player base would forgive ArenaNet if they were forced upon being turned into a villain.
I still don’t understand why people think this will happen.
I’m sorry to tell you but if you create a sylvari and play HoT story, you will hear Mordremoth giving commands.
I have a gaming laptop with i7 processor and gtx 960m, I’ve explored all maps in the core game with FPS ranging from 45 – 60fps, which, in my opinion is great. Until I went into the jungle. One moment the FPS counter will show 55fps and the next 15fps. This is absolutely unacceptable. i’ll make few steps, and it will rise to 25fps, then 28fps, then I will turn one way and it becomes 50 fps. I turn the other way and it’s back to 25 or 15fps. I don’t know what to say. I am extremely disappointed and I sincerely hope that the devs will optimize the maps better. Right now, HoT is unplayable due to this…
This.
I also play in a laptop [i5 2.5ghz geforce 540m (bad gpu)] and the fps is terrible, i can’t even play in medium settings, it drops from 75fps to 15~20fps.
I’m enjoying everything for now: great elements of the story when playing as a sylvari; Verdant Brink is awesome and is very active.
The only cons I have is that my FPS drops a lot!
I re-read the article and he post: “(…)For example, we’ll only ever be showing the first story chapter and parts of the first map of the expansion during beta weekends(…)”. Maybe he use the word chapter instead of instance so it’s quite confusing.
Colin said in his blogspot that BWE will only cover chapter 1 of HoT, but we were only able to play one story instance, where’s the rest?
I just want to thank you guys for the nice work on the expansion and the different experience we have when playing with a sylvari: you can hear Mordremoth talking! That’s awesome!
Again we can have an elite spec test weekend before the second beta depending on how much information we are getting at gamescom hopefully we will get hardcore content and then they suprise us with 3 elite spec reveals.
I wouldn’t expect THAT much from ArenaNet.
The problem I see is that if there’s only two BWE, then we’ll probably not play the remaining elite specs, like ranger, thief and revenant.
It’s funny, because he says 25% of the map, but it looks like 50% of the canopy layer is already shown. If we say the other half of the canopy layer is another 25%. That means the floor and roots will be 25% as well.
That actually pretty huge for one map!
Well, yeah HoT maps are going to be really huge because of the three adjacent layers, but Colin’s article is quite ambiguous: last time we played at Verdant Brink (Portal to the Heart of Maguuma event) we could discover and play through the half of the canopy layer’s map, which means I think we’ll get more 25% of the canopy layer. But we could also get more 25% of the canopy layer plus floor and root of the respective map.
Meh we shall have to wait and see -_-
Hey there. I’ve read that article written by Colin J. which he says that in this first BW we will experience 25% of Verdant Brink and I was wondering if the three biomes (canopy, floor and root) will be playable. Are they going to be playable or we’ll have the same limited map as of the last time we could play?
Why is Mordremoth called the Elder Dragon of Plant and Mind?
Is it because of how he corrupts(through assaulting the mind) or is he the most intelligent Elder Dragon?
Scarlet who was one of the Mordrem was a genius with high tech who created 5 factions working for her(Steam Creatures, Molten Alliance, Aetherblades, Twisted Watchworks and the Toxic Alliance) which none of the other Elder Dragons’ minions were able to replicate at all so I would assume the Mind part of the omnicidal Mordremoth’s sphere refers to intellect not where he targets.
I can’t find the topic I read some months ago explaining how Mordremoth sweeps into the minds of their victims, but it said something like Mordremoth puts false thoughts onto its victims’ mind and then if the victim trusts those thoughts, he/she is utter turned (corrupted).
About Ceara and her intellect: well, she was very curious since her beginning and if you read her journal, it seems that her Dream was a nightmare, likely. Mordremoth was communicating with her through images of death, destruction and destiny. When she uses that Nietzschian quote “(…)tonight, I saw it. I stared into the abyss and it stared back into me(…)” hints that moment was when she fell into sleep and could see or feel Mordremoth’s influence. Throughout her story, we don’t know if she was aiming to aid the dragon (the sylvari belongs to Mordremoth) or to fight it, but at least we know that she WAS concious about her situation.
How much we will have to wait for a release date? Its taking too long, right ?
What are the alternatives?
- They release HoT early, without playtesting.
- They release HoT even earlier, without doing any QA.
- They release HoT early, by removing features.
In that context, no, it’s not taking “too long” — it’s taking just the right amount of time.
And when they release they’d better have an extremely good vertical progression through the very few maps within HoT x-pac (this is the impression they passed)
HAHAH man, why don’t they fix uw combat already? They’re going to add a plethora of band-aid not to wipe it from the game. Tsc tsc… stay classy, ArenaNet.
No other class’s underwater weapons have been revealed, that is because UW isn’t something to be excited about.
Or to be more precise few people are going to be happy about it. THey will probably just reveal them after all the other classes are done or they might not even include them. It doesn’t really matter since they wont be adding new weapons to them, for now.
It saddens me because I’ve always loved UW combat. I even miss Raid On The Capricorn
Why wouldn’t we get one?
I think a better question would be like this: When will it be?
I go with 1; it has tons of potential.
Gliph takes up an utility slot.
Those fields come “free” with warhorn
And what’s the matter? Isn’t it meant to support your allies? Or is it too much to just avoid the fields?
Isn’t that a bit too much?
4 stacks of might would be greatly appreciated!
Eles ALREADY have pulsing blinding.Sandstorm Glyph.
Yes but that’s too static. Warhorn pulsing blindness is more abrangent
Elementalist is the strongest class? Every profession has equal potentials.
Well, that’s simply not true. Any ranger and necro will tell you.
That said, OP why would buffing underperforming classes be a bad thing? They need the buffs.
No, it’s wrong. Necromancers don’t have access to vigor but have a second lifebar and rangers can stay at a long range while attacking so it can avoid massive projectiles’ damage (rifle warr for instance)
Elementalist is the strongest class? Every profession has equal potentials.
Can we at least wait till tomorrow to see in detail what the new skills/traits are before we decide to gather our pitchforks and torches >_<
Anxiety disagrees with you.
What if they change it to: Automatically overload the attunement you are currently in (doesn’t put overload to cd and doesn’t incerase your current att cd)
I think that this will fit more and can be a lot more useful.Or something like eles have long been calling for (seen a lot of signet suggestions like this):
On use, refresh the cooldown of all your attunements.
That’s a nice idea for an elite signet.
This Elite Spec is so so awful. I could give 2 million reasons why, but why should I when my words will go on deaf ears… This proves they haven’t listened to the community at all… We have a Elite Spec based on support!!!!!! Everything else we have is SUPPORT!!!! This doesn’t even change the way the ele plays!!!!! This is just Horrible. I am glad I didn’t preorder, maybe I will be back next x-pac… See you guys when GW2 The Awakening of Jormag comes out, than may we get a true weapon and a true Elite spec.
Right lemme start at the beginning
they only have ONE Supportive ability the Elite, the shouts are Damage, the Abilities are all Pure damage, it is OBVIOUS that the kitten Elite is a Zerker will people kitten about it being “support” it doesnt even LOOK SUPPORT let alone fecking have anything in it worth support.
YES the elite is a CD Reduction, Just like Chronomancers have Alacrity, everyone has been given buffs in ALL elites so far it hasnt made them support, dont be so ridiculous to try claim Just because its a warhorn it has ANY Reason to be linked with Support.
How is Singularity Overloading Any of the Shouts Wildfire or Dust storm have ANY capability in Supporting?…. how are they even LINKED to support, it was obvious there would be a SLICE of Support in elementalists, Water is SUPPORT and ALL weapons have supportive/healing capabilities within the Water attunement.
Its a ZERKER Specc, if u want to finally not be a Sustain bunker with Decent Damage and Want to blow people up like other proffessions do this is your Specialization if your really not going to buy it BECAUSE it has a element of support in it then ur ridiculous, Elementalists have and Always will be a Jack of All Trades holding something for EVERY role, this is to make up for the lack of Weapon Swap among other things.
This.
People want something like Rampage and Lich Form, let’s say…cheesy and mindless playing…
We could get a cooler shoulder, but whatever…

Doesn’t change the way ele plays?….. I’m done trying. I’ve tried too hard to speak against this ignorance.
You are free to believe that people are speaking out of ignorance. Your comment reads like someone who hates it that people have a different opinion about a toy he likes and is taking it too personal, aka “I am done trying” crap.
the tempest sucks, you can disagree all you want, it doesn’t make it less true.
Prove it sucks, then you can have some valid argument here.
1. let’s see the tempest doesn’t add anything that elementalist lacks. All the things it brings we could already do extremely well. Nobody ever goes “gee I wish elementalist support wasn’t good”.
2. The class mechanic is unusable against opponents that have something called a brain, it only works against PvE mobs.
3. Ironically, the class mechanic is actually better on the staff than the warhorn.
4. the elite suck since it requires far too much coordination short of mind sharing, it will be wasted on an auto attack.
5. The shouts are not better than cantrips. Cantrips are still going to be the best.
6. The tempest isn’t going to change our dependence on either arcane or water. The most important thing is #2, the class mechanic sucks.
Guild wars 2 has a lot of interrupts good luck getting off a skill with 2.75-5 sec cast time. IF you do get the skill off, the attunement has a 15 to 20 CD which is long considering the elementalist needs to attunement dance. If you get interrupted which is extremely easy, the overcharge and attunement goes on full CD.I am speaking strictly PvP and WvW, PvE is not relevant. anything and everything can work.
Since you love asking questions, why don’t you tell me why tempest doesn’t suck. (actually don’t bother).
Since I love answering questions (but not silly ones) I will answer:
- What does elementalist lack? DPS? No; Support? No; Good auto-attacks? No, oh wait, I want impale and vapor blade hit as much as fireball or lightning whip! Why does fire auto-attacks and air auto-attacks hit more than the others? Because it’s their niche, heavily damage dealing.
- Do you know what happens when you coordinate an attack or defense? It happens that you won’t fail it whenever you don’t miscalculate your moves. Let’s see this example: you’re low on HP and your enemy notices you’re about to conclude a healing skill and then he/she uses a stun skill to stop you = BAM! u’r screwed!
- Ironically, I’m (you) a bad player who wants something REALLY easy to use and godlike power, like…well Lich?
- Coordination short of mind sharing…not worth commenting.
- Cantrips are defensive moves, how to compare offensive moves with defensive moves when both differ from each other
- Dependancy of arcane and/or water: it’s not true to state that water or arcane provides the only worth defense to an elementalist: you can still clear your conditions with other skills, you just have to suit it with your playstyle

He can’t. He’s just here to cry about everything like he has been since warhorn was even brought up. All we have is the minor traits and we don’t even have the warhorn skills, yet people act like they know everything, and just complain because they don’t have a job or any friends.
Just read the ops post. " I could give 2 million reasons why but why should I when my words fall on deaf ears " " this doesn’t even change the way eles play". " it’s just horrible"
Saying he’ll come back when he gets a true elite spec.
People can dislike the spec. That’s absolutely fine and feedback on something they. Dont like is great. This thread was just someone ranting with no actual discussion… Just ranting to rant and saying we were the ones with deaf ears is ignorant.
. There’s to much QQ for the sake of QQ
Yes, pretty much QQ
When was the last Beta? Seems like over a month ago. Stress test don’t count.
Chances are the game won’t be for another month, perhaps not even in time for the 3rd anniversary, more like the 20th of September considering Tempest is only the 4th
and there’s 5 to go.Doing a Beta on the 25th for the whole week-end would calm the player base down a bit me included.
So how about it Anet???
I’m anxious for a beta test where I can play the 3 biomes of any HoT map

Everything else? What do you consider to be supportive? Healing, cleanse skills, boon application? This is really a semantic problem: you can support your friends with DPS, DoT and CC as well.
Shouldn’t all Attunement Overloads have a break bar to provide some sort of protection from getting interrupted, maybe even have a shorter break bar(is that even possible) if the channel is only a few seconds.
You mean Defiance Bar? I think only Earth Attunement has a defiance bar (or break bar) but I do also think it would be great for all the attunements to get a break bar, or at least one major trait provides it.
- You don’t need god-like abilities, just observe their playstyles and put you effort into your decisions
- In the “middle of the battle” you can still do a couple of things
1) Looking at 4 total strangers for less than 20 secs and totally knowing how they all play + calculating when to ult to maximize all their long cd skills in the middle of multiple fights (because you will need to know how they respond in different situations) seems pretty god-like to me. And that´s just normal PvP.
2) When you observe others play-style how are you focusing in doing what the team needs? (healing someone, capturing a point, defending the treb, chasing or whatever) What if they play separated, attacking all points at the same time? You probably will benefit only 1 teammate, reducing the ults potential a lot.I agree that in most PvE environments it can be made. An depending on CDs and how it works may be even broken (in the OP sense) in coordinated teams. But in normal PvP? Not really.
- I didn’t specify the duration (less than 20s of looking to total strangers and then decide this is the best time to use the elite is pretty dumb)
- Playing with them? LOL, and benefit someone is already something, you don’t have to benefit all the 4, i.e. you and other teammate are fighting to secure a point
So far every elite spec got a teaser trailer aside from Tempest, why is that?
We get shouts, warhorn and no teaser trailer.
I honestly have low expectations for tomorrow.
I’m asking myself the same thing.
So you can exactly know that now this one is going to use his elite, this one his healing skill and this one some important utility. And what if you are wrong? What if the 1st one decides to use 1 last aa before his elite, 2nd one’s heal skill still have few secs cd and the 3rd one gets interrupted and is going to use another skill (probably aa or some weap. skill) before his utility can be used? Isn’t that a little waste of your elite?
I never said exactly nor pretended to suppose. If you don’t have enough communication means with your teammates then you gotta figure out their rotation.
The beginning of your statement is ambiguous; I can know the CDs of my teammates right after they cast something, because I have in mind how long an specific ability takes to recharge. Thinking about every profession in game there are situations where you have to use your healing abilities with you want to stay alive (almost every), bringing it to guardians, ‘Smite’ recharges in 16s if meditation’s trait is equipped and it’s a viable option to use whenever it’s possible, which means the shout elite is welcome here; Thinking of blink, in team fights if a shatter mesmer can’t get away of a thief or any sneaky profession with good burst they’re pretty sure dead, even more dead if they have to escape from a thief + x profession, which means the elite shout is welcome here.
The shout elite will reduce the recharge of the next skill, and not the current one your allies used. The thing is that if you are babysitting others so carefully as to know all their cds and calculate perfectly when to ult to maximize their most benefical skills in the middle of a fight without teamspeak or some high coordination with friends…. 1) You have some god-like abilitys or 2) You arent really in the middle of the battle / active helping
- You don’t need god-like abilities, just observe their playstyles and put you effort into your decisions
- In the “middle of the battle” you can still do a couple of things
I guess I will have to wait and see. But aftershock and overload earth sound like they do the same thing.
From the descriptions given at TTH interview, yes they have the same effects.
- Overload Earth: overload earth to grant protection to allies and cripples enemies. Gain defiance bar during overloading. At the end of it, cast a massive blast that immobilizes enemies.
- Aftershock: Create a powerful aftershock that will cripple and then immobilize enemies.
Not true, you don’t have to be using Teamspeak in order to cast it in opportune moments. All you have to do is pay careful attetion to your allies and decide when is fine to use the shout (i.e. when you have a tank warrior or guardian in your team and they need to use a healing ability but they’ve had use it before).
So you now know all the cds of your allies and know when they are going to use something before they use it and expect that they wont use something else at the same time?
And what about instant casts through other abilities? Think meditations on guardians, they use those through healing quite often, think teleports, shielding effects and stab generation.
you might get 1 right every few matches…

Maybe can also try to see if on glyph of renewal will be not bad. I mean if u are specced into air and u take the glyph CD reducer and the shout u can ress 3 people every 100sec…
This is the thing I find HILARIOUS. Every other class has elites with effects that are like “OMG, that is so strong, watch out for it!!!”
Ele elites are all like “well maybe if the stars align, it can be ‘not that bad’!”
I 50% disagree with you; ArenaNet should’ve nerfed other elites’ damage and not just nerf Tornado. Rampager and Lich Form are incredibly strong and give their users overpowered capabilities in 1v1 fights. But I have to say that our elites are not that bad, I can fight a rampage using FGS or Glyph of Elementals, but Tornado is simply not viable.
The new elite shout is so bad I don’t even believe it’s real. It maybe useful in pve – but even then only when you’re in teamspeak. In pvp it’s basically unusable.
25% less recharge isn’t much, it’s only really useful for skills with cooldowns above 2 minutes, i.e. other elites. So eles get an elite that doesn’t even do anything for them. Wow.
It has a ton of potential in organized groups. More time warps and rampages? Thats just so powerful.
Sure, but a skill that REQUIRES TEAMSPEAK to function correctly is insanely bad design, and useless in all groups where you do not have access to teamspeak – and even then there’s a delay for the voice coupled with lag from the game meaning you’ll still use the 25% reduction on the wrong skill sometimes.
It has bad design written all over it. Also, again, it’s the only elite in the game that needs allies to function at all. Horrible, simply horrible.

To be honest: I loved the idea of warhorn. I felt warhorn was underestimated and only thought as a supportive weapon, but now with the Tempest announcement I’m pretty glad ArenaNet is taking this wep to a whole new level with the awesomeness of the elementalists. Thanks a lot ArenaNet and I’m pretty excited for Thursday and Friday, can’t wait to see my main profession elite spec in action!!!!!!!!
Am I smelling the official beta weekends coming pretty soon?
I have been a fan for a long time. I have really enjoyed playing GW2 and went ahead and bought HoT Ultimate edition yesterday. I am just curious what people think is the reason or strategy of not giving a release date or approximate target time frame like say " We will release sometime in Fall " or " We are shooting for a Holiday Release "?
It is ok with me but, just was curious what other player thought about how the release dates are being handled? Are you OK with not knowing and buying without any idea of when you might play?
It’s been quietly hinted that the xpac will be released somewhere during Summer, but a dev told us to not take it seriously, so…
World vs. World Borderlands Stress Test [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Confused people are confused. Throwing money at screen only gives you access to few beta weekends. Real betas and stress test are not included.
What? FEW BETA WEEKENDS and REAL BETAS AND STRESS TEST, the announcement on the pre-purchase page is very clear, that is, pre-purchasing it grants you access on ALL beta weekends. Plus, what do you mean by ‘real betas and stress test’?
That’s pretty hypocritical. I don’t see why the name is bad. Dragons are big and bad things that are plaguing the land. It makes sense that some people would make a crusade out of hunting dragons. That doesn’t mean they’re going to go slay a dragon on their own. Guardians gain their power through faith/devotion (even if it’s not that faith/devotion that supplies the power, it’s apparently how they access it). Their devotion to their cause, saving the world and its people and taking down the dragons (or maybe even just getting revenge for those lost) results in the access Dragon Hunters have to their magic and gives them their name.
I fail to see how “Dragon Hunter” is a bad name, particularly for a heavy-armor profession in a setting where dragons plague the world and threaten to overcome its population.
So because you can’t see why it’s bad, then it’s objectively good. Right…
We’re all dragon hunters, and once all the dragons are dead, “dragon hunters” will be irrelevant.Sounds more like a description or a tittle and not a class name… are we all Dragon Hunters after all?
Isnt elit spec / profession name… a title anyway? : 3
All Dragon hunters? Well we all are warrior as well.. So rename it as well.
No we aren’t. First off, “Warrior” is already a profession (one that existed in GW1, mind you), whereas “Dragonhunter” is only a spec. If anything, we’re closer to soldiers, as the pact is more or less an army.
Furthermore, Elementalists, Mesmers, Necromancers, and the like could never be considered “warriors” by any stretch of the imagination, hence why they are categorized as “scholar” professions.
Definitions of warrior:
1. One who is engaged in or experienced in battle.
2. One who is engaged aggressively or energetically in an activity, cause, or conflict.
Realising that Guild Wars 2 is not a pacific game (LOL), ANY profession is engaged at the battle it’s facing, so…just because three professions are categorized as scholars doesn’t semantically take away their valid quality as warriors. As a matter of fact, the heavy-armor professions are categorized as soldiers, and soldier has the following means:
