And another thing If my idea was implemented then a Superior Rune of the Mounted should be made available as well. As for what stats that this rune could bring to the table I would like others thoughts about how it should work. But maybe something like:
+25 vitality +20% might duration +50 toughness 5% chance to shout Giddyup and gain swiftness when hit. (cooldown: 10s) +90 healing power +5% chance to gain stability. (cooldown: 60s)
I’m beginning to thing you like mounts a little too much. Several people including myself have offered valid compromises (you know that thing where you meet in the middle) but you refuse to even think about it. That dear player makes you come off as
a kitten and won’t get your ideas taken seriously. BTW keep your stupid mounts out of WvW, there is enough broken stuff in that game mode as it is.
I do like what I want. I have offered more compromises on this subject, maybe more than any other pro mounter and most of those compromises where in favor of the naysayer, for instance where they do not have to look at them near npc’s is idea that I came up up with after someone had a made comment about looking at a yaks butt…so don’t you call me out saying I don’t. When I made that rune suggestion I left it open on discussion on how it could work, you are the one who refuses to help me fix the idea(compromise). You just want things your way just as much as I want things my way. Now If you would contain your urges to call me names.
And my idea for mounts in WvW is it own place in the Mist that has nothing to do with the current areas.
And another thing If my idea was implemented then a Superior Rune of the Mounted should be made available as well. As for what stats that this rune could bring to the table I would like others thoughts about how it should work. But maybe something like:

Looking at my last post I just thought of something that I had not given much thought about till after I made that post.
Jumping Puzzles
Why not have a jumping puzzle in my idea for a Mounted WvW map. All the other WvW maps except Edge of the mist(as far as I know) have a jumping puzzle included with them. So why not have a special jumping puzzle that can only be done on a mount in my idea for Mounted WvW map.
I don’t get why people are against it?
If people don’t want it they won’t use it so what’s the problems? Other than giving valid precise points as to why it’s bad a lot of it seems to be naysayers for the sake of being naysayers.
The wasted development is a point, but PvE has tons of resources that I doubt this would hurt anything. Also I’m sure there are more than enough people willing to go for it that a-net can turn a profit if quality assurance is with it. (Again don’t make WoW’s TRH)
Many have stated good reasons why.
- Unnecessary clutter.
- Requires Dev time wich is “needed” somewhere else since Mounts is not “needed”.
- Mounts isn’t just a click and paste resource, it requires alot of work and alot of code and alot of memory and alot of server capacity. Do you complain about a laggy game? you should not want mounts then.
- People are never happy. If useless mounts where to be introduced (AE No special speed boost) People would post suggestions about giving mounts with higher speed.
- Yes, people are never happy. When mounts is introduced with speed boost people will suggest mounted combat and/or flying mounts.Oh by the way, I want super powers like in Champions Online and I want traveling skills with that, would have been so cool to sprint through Aschalon is 2sec and killing enemies with blasts will throw them away with ragdoll effect. I mean PvE has tons of resources so I doubt that would hurt anything.
He said valid which nulls the idea that they would be clutter since they already have tons of clutter in this game.
The Dev’s work in teams so if they are working on something the whole place is not working on it. We know that there are three living story teams, and some teams that specialize say like people that work on Pvp and WvW. So that does not seem to be an issue.
I don’t know about that seems like they have a good portion of the code already made, when I look around in LA and BC, I see lots of what could be mounts, like the charr’s war machines. Also when I am out in the Pve areas I see animals that could be domesticated. Even a horse is already made up to the neck.
You are right they have added useless mounts already like the broom…I do want speed but at no better buff than is already currently available.
and I also want mounted combat which if you had read any of the other post i have made you would already read that. But I do not want flying mounts unless they have a WvW map just for mounted combat. Any where else in the game would break design with jumping puzzle’s and vista’s.
I think my Mesmer is lacking in that area of the continuous variety.

yeah its the new magic find on gear….telling the truth I did make a set just for running only for the mezzy, which is sad. Which I hate having to gear and spec into movement and switch out gear just to fight.
So your idea is to make it a skill that passively gives you a speed buff and when activated gives you a different skill set. Think on that for a while and then tell me it wouldn’t be op. The problem with most of you mount lovers is that you want it all and won’t take anything less. Small cosmetic mounts or mounts the way that they were in Gw1 (which I’d be ok with) just aren’t good enough for the small and let me repeat that word for you again, SMALL amount of players that want them. Why don’t you go through all of the mount threads and count the names for them and against them. In fact why don’t you go through all of those threads and read them and you would find a lot of reasons why mounts the way you want them would be game breaking for a lot more people than the mount lovers.
No..The idea is that when you use the activate feature of my skill idea is that you Loose the speed you get put back to normal running speed on foot and slowed to battle speed when engaging in combat and my idea is to have a unique skill set that compliments the mount you are riding. Skills like the idea of dragging a downed player away from red circles to then rez them, I don’t know what to name this skill yet.
Since everyone could use this skill in PvE it would not make you op. In normal WvW you would not allow the mounts to fight. That why I suggested an all out WvW map that lets every conceivable type of mounted combat take place. In the Air, land, and Sea and on those massive charr war machines. Since everyone is able to fight on them how are you more op than all the other players. You don’t give credit to Anet in the fact that they would balance the skill set and make them skills work for the type of mount you are using. By type I mean base different mounts on the trinity, Damage, Control, and Support.
I understand that you really want this because you are a mesmer but that was the way that they were balanced. Let’s say my engie wanted portals or mass veil – I would have to give something up or be op. I don’t understand why you couldn’t live with a strictly cosmetic, small mount if you “wanna look kewl”. With no speed boost and given the option to not have to see it have all the stupid mounts you want. As a final note there is no way i can give Anet credit for balancing anything.
No I don’t want this cause I play a mezy. I have and play all classes.
You do give up something with my idea you give up all your weapon skills and the ability for the mount to have a continuous speed buff to have mounted skills.
Which is like what happens when you pick up one of those items off the ground to use as a weapon or when a Engi uses the flamethrower skill.
One thing that the broom and tunneling device doesn’t do, is let me use my utility skills while mounted or to have the ability to use dodge or even have the protection of my armor…If they add these features to these items, I could be happy for allowing more immersion and the ability to uses the already speeds buffs that my utility provide. If they did this and make more of these items available on the gem store they could make a lot more money from me that is for sure.
But that will not make me stop wanting to have something that most MMO’s do not have and that’s a fun method of Mounted Combat. Which I think my idea comes close to something that has Anet design ideas all over it and is unique to the MMO gaming market.
No the Dev’s have never taken that stance and if you have a link that proves me other wise stop spreading lies.
From the FAQ on the wiki:
Will there be mounts?
No. For traveling long distance, the game will offer the two types of teleports above (waypoints and asura gates), but the initial release does not have any other methods, i.e. there are no mounts or ships.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Frequently_Asked_Questions
Dev interview stating there are no plans. There’s also a video of this but I don’t have the link. Of course this doesn’t mean no plans ever but it’s hardly likely they will. By the way, the first GW did not have mounts.
No, see the line you link to is not what the Dev said during the interview, the line as read per your link is someone else wording on the Wiki which I didn’t bother looking up who that was….if you look at the end of that line is the link to the original interview and statement from Guild Wars 2 Lead Designer Eric Flannum and the question and answer was:
Will be there any other kind of traveling across long distances apart from asura gates (e.g. ship)?
Eric: Any of the major (non-capturable) waypoints that a player has unlocked can be travelled to regardless of the distance involved. Prices do vary depending on distance though, and asura gates are free, so a player might find it advantageous to use asura gates in some circumstances. Other than waypoints and asura gates, there will be no other methods of long distance travel such as mounts, ships, etc in Guild Wars 2 upon initial release.
Which basically the other statement did include the “upon initial release” which makes the meaning say that they are not committing to any statement that says yes or no. But the wiki starts out saying flat out NO which is not what he said at all.
And yes they did have mounts.

Mounts are a no-no. You have fast travel, you can waypoint all over the map if you need to get somewhere and if you want to run every single class has access to a 25% speed buff. Mounts are really unnecessary and they just become screen clutter.
Says you.
Is that a continuous 25% speed buff?
I think my Mesmer is lacking in that area of the continuous variety.
I can name ten other things in game that are really unnecessary, basically screen clutter, yet I don’t see you harping on those items. But why on earth would you need a continuous speed buff… If we had access to continuous speed buffs then that speed would simply be thought of as the default speed and there would be no point in the notion of a buff…
Although of course elementalists DO have access to a continuous speed buff, and a lot of other classes can get close to continuous as well through the combination of traits and utility skills.
But the point is, Waypoints and the relatively small size of the map remove any need to be able to constantly move quickly. Mounts are EXTREMELY annoying – think about trying to talk to NPC’s when there are 5+ other people around that NPC all on mounts. It is difficult enough trying to see over a Norn, if you chuck mounts in the mix it gets very difficult to see or target anything.
In games like Tera, Aion or WoW yes mounts make a certain amount of sense because fast travel options are limited and the maps are rather desolate – but GW2 fixes both of these problems so they aren’t needed.
I honestly can’t think of anything else in game that is unnecessary screen clutter, unless you’re going to say trees or amour – which would be ridiculous.
Dev’s have already stated that they don’t want to implement Mounts and the vast majority of the player base is against it.
Speed is FUN, that’s why!!!
I have come up with a suggestion to fix the problem with the npc.
1. You don’t need to see the npc anyway because the “F” button is not broke, it works as soon as you get near the npc the “hit the F button” thing pops up.
2. If that bothers you that something big will be standing near a Npc, then it should really kitten you off when the Npc you talk to opens a really big panel that blocks your whole view of at least a third of the screen.
3. Remember that hit detection I was talking about, the part where when you get so close to the npc the “hit the F button” pops up, well they could add to the code that if anyone is mounted and they stand in that area for more than 3 seconds automatic dismount.
Mounted Combat not just living creatures I want a WvW map that is huge and is catered to fighting the good fight ala Mounted. I want to see those huge Charr War Machines in action. Maybe even flying mounts for combat in this area only. All other areas of the game no flying mounts.
Like you say not needed, but that didn’t stop them from adding Minis, Tonics that transform your appearance into other creatures, that would include costume brawls. They added them because some of us thought they would be fun. Some of the most fun some people have had in game came from things that was not needed.
My idea for mounts is more of like a skill that you place in the utility side of the skill bar and while passive you will ride around on your mount @ 20 to 25% continuous speed if you go into combat you slow down and all aspects of the game work as normal. Once activated the skill will replace your 1-5 skill slots with the mounts own skill bar and you will use those skills to fight with much the same as when a Engineer uses the Flamethrower or one of those weapons laying around all over the game.
No the Dev’s have never taken that stance and if you have a link that proves me other wise stop spreading lies. There is no prof that that Vast Majority is one way or the other, we collectively in this little section of the forums represent a small fraction of the games player base. That statement is also unfounded and untruthful.
Another mounts thread? Really?
Wow who made you the official thread police?….the guy is New, as in his first ever post, he didn’t know that the topic has been suggested over and over and over, cut him some slack.

This One…..your post itself needs that special shutdown treatment….
There is a reason that I don’t want to just silence these topics.
I think that someone who has never posted on here might one day put down the post that does in fact bring a new fresh idea to the table. If you just shut down every entry before it gets discussion, even negative, would be bad since you never know when someone comes up with the idea that unites the community and moves the idea forward.
I do concede that these topics get repeats and the discussion seems stale but as long as its out there there is the chance someone who has never shared their opinion on it may. I don’t think you should just decide what we can and can’t discuss either. If the topic gets out of hand and name slinging gets done use the proper channel of action to fix the problem.
Why do they even assign a Host?
It might be different if they had tools that made being a Party Leader or Host more useful…
We are not rolling for loot so no need there.
We are not assigning tags to enemies(something I have made a suggestion for)( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Tag-Signs-for-Targets/first#post3115598 )
Do we really need a person to be the host?
What most people are missing is that the OP wants to turn Kimmes into a SKIN LOCKER once you got say the meta for this LS you would unlock the ability for any toon on your account to visit Kimmes and get the latest Gas Mask skin you have unlocked. This would allow you to change looks of your toons more often. You would also drive the need for transmutation stones, which btw I hate them. If they did do something like this please allow each skin to have a price to pay Kimmes to get on another toon but at the same time allow those skins to have a trasmutation ready to use like some of the other gem store items that have come in the past.
I have suggested this idea myself and wished as well that Legendary’s be made into skins that could be used across the account via this idea. Then they made them have the stat change, so I don’t even know if they could do that or not now.
I want to ride around on an Ettin’s shoulder
I want a Ettin or some other larger than human creature to push my toon while it rides in a Wheelbarrow.
Mounts have NEVER been apart of Guild Wars Lore. Why ruin it all with mounts?
Everytime I see a thread that is mount related I instantly think “This person must have came from WoW or TERA.”
I give you Dagnar Stonepate http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dagnar_Stonepate
Big Part of the story and he is riding a drake.
Ah but’s not domesticated which makes a difference .
“The Stone Summit have a penchant for slavery. They can often be found riding giants and other beasts bound with all manner of manacles and restraining devices. They don’t bother to tame their mounts, rather preferring to simply chain the beasts and overpower them, making them bend to their will rather than becoming accustomed to their new role”
Even the Wurm was technically beaten into submission by the player rather than domesticated .
Even Horses have to be broken. http://www.wikihow.com/Break-a-Horse Which in turn is the process of taming…now when I was younger I did some breaking which we added another step in which when it was time to ride the horse we lead the horse into water up to the shoulder of the horse and mounted them if they had any spunk in them they would slowly wear themselves out because of the resistance the water created.
Now I would like to see mechanical mounts like a “don’t want to use the word Motorcycle” But Kitten Yeah a big Motorcycle!!!! No need to Domesticate or Break.
I will give ya that the Stone Summit did do that and the Beasts where fearful of pain, however the Dwarves did Domesticate the Dolyaks http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dolyak

Mounts = Lag city for more loading
NO THANKS GW aint never been about smelly old mountsGO play some other MMO if you want that
Add an Option that you could check to turn off all visuals of mounts on other toons.
Of course I really never seen this lag in any game that had mounts in them.
Again I will play what I want, when I want, and make suggestions if I want. You are not the boss of me.
I do not, when I quoted you I answered each of your sentences in order.
We already have mounts in the game which no one recognizes for what they are as you say, the gem store and there are siege golems that you use in WvW that are in effect very much the same as the Gw1 mounts which I am fine with I have multiple toons who have the brooms and tunneling device. The flavor they add is limited only to towns and WvW, if your main stay play is within the Pve sectors you loose out cause of lack of armor while riding a broom and I can’t make a Siege Golem in pve either.
My idea also adds collectivity to mounts in that I have also suggested that they add a tab in the hero panel much like the Finishers that allow you to select which mount that your mount skill will bring out and the type affects the skill set based on Gw2 trinity of support, damage, and control.
How would having 25% for all classes in PVE be game breaking?
Signets are not just one skill , yes they take one utility slot the same as my idea, but have a “Passive ability” and a “Active ability”. When you use the active you loose the passive and the skill has a cool down before the passive gets reinitialized. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Signet
What I am talking about would kind of merge the two types into one for this mount skill that all classes would be able to get and use and I am also suggesting a Mounted Combat area for this skill to see alot of game play with, you would not be needing to balance the combat skills to fight each other in normal WvW and PvP arenas as they would be balanced on the fact that you would be playing against other players who are all mounted as well in this new suggested area idea that would be in the Mist much like the new Edge of the Mist that just got added.
So would all of you mount lovers be cool if they implemented the limited mounts like in GW1 and add a few more to the gem store? I could live with that. Any thing else though would be too much for reasons stated all throughout the multiple threads on this subject.
I want a new mount system that combines all three type of mounts Cosmetic, Speed & Combat into a New Non-Traditional Mount System, a marriage of them that would align with the weapon bundle system, similar to how engineer’s use the Flamethrower, with skills that would replace the 1-5 on your bar giving new skills to use in combat that have a working kind of sense for the mount that you are driving. That has Gw2 written all over it, its something no one will see as something done in other games or as you say traditional. Yes I asked for a 25% speed continuous speed which is in my view not game breaking since you have to equip the mount into a skill slot and you would have to do the same with a signet that would give the same effect. A select few mounts getting one of there skills that gives a small speed buff to 50% for 2 seconds or 33% for 5 seconds, some might get a skill that allows you to pull a downed played out of red circles to rez them at a distance.
And that is my problem with all of you mount lovers – It’s all or nothing. This world is small enough without a constant 25% speed. And what about your mounts in WvW? Don’t just throw around “it wouldn’t be game breaking” because you want them so bad because from where I’m sitting it would be. “its the same thing as using a signet” – No it isn’t a signet is one skill- yet you said that it would work like the engineer kits which are 5 skills.
And that is my problem with all of you mount naysayers – It’s nothing for all. Yet so many classes have a signet that allows 25% constant speed unless you go into combat.
No this would not be allowed in the current WvW….but I have suggested also for another area in the Mist that is for all out Mounted Combat….and not just the mounts that could be added with my idea for mounts. I want to see those huge Charr War Tanks in action. Maybe they would need a team to operate them effectively. Also not only that but you could do mounts that you ride on the surface of the water something that you can not do in the game currently is fight on the surface of water.
Yes it would work just like a signet based off a weapon skill in that passively you would see yourself mounted and going at 25% without the skills, this does not mean that everyone has to see you as mounted, they could have an option to turn off the visual for their screen, the same way they do culling. Activating the mount would bring out the mounted combat side of the skill replacing your skill bar with the new mounted skills. If Anet wants to, they could make this part of the mount be set on a timer so you can only have this skill set for a limited time. But I still don’t see them as being game breaking as I know that if they found that we would use it in that way that would, they would “eventually” balance the skills that you get, so its not game breaking. Plus I am looking for a skill set that has never been done unique to the type of mount that you are riding/driving.
Basically if Anet wanted to do this, I would not mind if the WvW area was the only place that the skill could be used actively but would want the skill to be available in pve for all classes to use just for the passive mounted 25%, but I know that Anet could make it so it was not stupid even with the active skills working in pve as well.
I’m a role player. Mounts not needed for the world of Tyria or game Guild Wars 2. Do not suggest them, please.
You Are? Then know your Role don’t tell me what I can and can not want or suggest.
So would all of you mount lovers be cool if they implemented the limited mounts like in GW1 and add a few more to the gem store? I could live with that. Any thing else though would be too much for reasons stated all throughout the multiple threads on this subject.

I really think there should be mounts. Some people say that because we have asura gates and waypoints it makes no sense to have them. But really its not like your mount will get u half way across the map in seconds like the waypoints and asura gates. Itll simply increase your speed." if you wanna increase your speed then use a buff". Its not all about speed, it makes role playing ( for those who like it) more fun.
This can also be optional. For example it can be sold for karma, those who wish can purchase and those who dont can keep traveling by waypoints.
Im sure im not the only one who wants mounts and these can even be as simple as horses. No armored lions with flaming paws and stuff like that.
I really hope mounts can be introduce because they would make some peoples gameplay more enjoyable.
Why didn’t you add to the already open topic instead of creating a new one?
Well the picture was a standstill, but I would say that the horse was living!
Also I said it before, we have time machines at our disposal. It would not be a problem to go get one.
I really wish you people would stop pushing this idea that we need mounts. WE. DO. NOT. If you think its too slow to move around the map, use swiftness, waypoints, etc. You can’t say “mounts would improve role play” – no, no they won’t. There are no mounts in this game, GW1, Tyria, the world in general. Nobody rides squat in this universe.
If you have never role played then you can not say to another person who loves that aspect, that a mount would not….hell some of my role playing friends would be happy if anet would fix it so that it would let you interact with the furniture in the game, where if you sit in a chair it looks natural, they get heated over a simple little thing like that. I doubt you done any role play within the game since you so easily dismiss someone else based on your own view of things.
Again you this is a a flat out lie, GW1 did in fact have mounts not only did we ride on a mount here and there but there where tons of enemies that not only rode on a mount but attacked you from the mounted position.
I had to laugh when I read your name and realize that you don’t know anything about the lore if you can say what you said.
(edited by Gummy.4278)
Then just hop onto a centaur’s back and go for a ride. I believe a dev stated awhile back that they have no plans to implement mounts.
I personally don’t want them because they’re screen clutter.
I know your statement is wrong as well. No Dev has ever taken the stance that there are no plans or that there will never be mounts. What has been said is that if mounts are introduced they will not be traditional speed mounts that you find in other games and it will have a style about them that makes them uniquely GW. If you follow that link to the other page you will see that link that I posted.
Many times it has been suggested that the mounts get a option for any other person in game that does not want to see another persons mount that they can click that option and turn off all of them.
Are you kidding?
Waypoints and Portals make perfect sense in the lore of Tyria.
Asura technology since GuildWars 1.Mounts don’t make any sense to have in the lore.
Tryia NEVER had mounts to begin with.Have you seen any NPCs ride a horse or a lion? whatever… -_-
Your statement is a false…I can clearly remember riding mounts in GW1 and yes npc’s in gw1 did in fact ride many creatures even some of the ghost where on horseback.
Have you seen any horses in Tyria?
yes I have!
I know quite a few gw2 players who are playing other games that would come back and play again if mounts came.
Why do mounts have to = speed boost? why can’t it just be an aesthetic thing?
I think I’m done with this thread. If these things are just supposed to be purely aesthetic, and people would come back to a game they already chose to quit simply because of one new aesthetic option, that’s just ridiculous. We already have more than enough pure aesthetics in the gem store, and I don’t see the point of adding a bunch of purely aesthetic mounts just for the sake of having them. It will add nothing to the game other than new gem store sales and sheer appearance. Even more ridiculous is the idea that people would be enticed to come back on the sole basis that there’s a new shiny thing to collect and/or ride. I’d rather that they keep this a nontraditional MMO and not submit to people insisting that traditional features should be added just for the sake of having them and without any real reason other than “I want it.” So because I know that further responses to this thread will just raise my blood pressure, I won’t post here again.
You Quote me yet did not read my post since you call me out for things that I KNOW that I am not guilty of….I never said I want a non speed buffed or aesthetic only mount, I said I want a new mount system that combines all three type of mounts into a New Non-Traditional Mount System, a marriage of them that would align with the weapon bundle system, similar to how engineer’s use the Flamethrower, with skills that would replace the 1-5 on your bar giving new skills to use in combat that have a working kind of sense for the mount that you are driving. That has Gw2 written all over it, its something no one will see as something done in other games or as you say traditional. Yes I asked for a 25% speed continuous speed which is in my view not game breaking since you have to equip the mount into a skill slot and you would have to do the same with a signet that would give the same effect. A select few mounts getting one of there skills that gives a small speed buff to 50% for 2 seconds, some might get a skill that allows you to pull a downed played out of red circles to rez them at a distance. I know they are not beyond adding a new skill to what everyone has got since the latest LS added the new heal Antitoxin Spray.
And given how easy it is to put the game down and come back to it months later, they would not come back for a “New Broom” but have agreed with me and like my idea and have verbally stated that if they did that and added my idea for a WvW type map in the Mist, that allowed for that kind of all out mounted combat to play out in, they would drop the subscription based game they are currently playing as the main form of entertainment and come back to Gw2. I never said this, but come a few patches some came back for a few days do the meta and then go back to the other game. Its hard to put down another game when you are dedicated to paying the stupid subscription. Since the way GW2 is designed if something major like this was added or an expansion I know it would make the transition a lot easier and feeling the loss of those dollars over having fun makes all the difference.
Or just use Stylish to make your own.
Have you ever did a few small changes using Stylish and had the website stop being responsive and had to reverse all the changes you laid out?
1. No Anet can write up any lore they want to explain something …for example a clever asura may have discovered a location in the mist where horses are still in existence and you can go there and tame one.
2. It can also be un-designed as well….take for example the newest Living Story they could just as well made it so that Scarlett has prevented all use of waypoints in the area. Not to mention that most are thinking of a mount system that does not interfere with any of the current mechanism of the game.
3. You say this as if its a bad thing…the more the better our choices and that includes your choice to not get one at all, but let the rest rub out whatever it takes to get there prized beauty.
4. I personally do not want Anet to bring in an old mount system that all other mmo’s currently have, I want a marriage of all three types of mounts into a Nontraditional Mount System…The Beauty of Cosmetic Mounts, the Graceful Speed of Fast Mounts 25% continuous trot or gallop and some mounts to have temporary speed bursts up to 50% for very small bursts skill like 2 seconds and the Usefulness of Combat Mounts that I can Fight with as One. I think on a balance issue the mount system could be a skill that you have to learn to place on your utility bar the same as an engineer uses a flamethrower and once activated you could ride the mount and use the skills that creature has in its kitten nal, so you would get a replaced skill bar for 1-5. One idea I had was for a skill that you could throw a downed player a rope and then drag them out of aggro(red circles)and rez them, but that skill would be for certain types of mounts, as I think if they go this route the skills should reflect the gw2 trinity- control, damage, and support. And also create a mount tab in the hero panel much like the one for Finishers where as you collect different mounts within the trinity on your account though the gems store, dungeons, living story, and world drops, they will be added and you can tell the system which one you display while using the skill.
5. I have yet to see one denial that adds anything at all.
6. I have and do play them and yet there is one thing in my mind that I get when I play other games, is the feel of your control over your character in game. Most do not have the FEEL that GW2 and Wow have. These two mmo’s have put time into that, how when you move around it feels natural, you don’t think in your head how clunky or jittery or just complete slop the controls feel and for that reason I would expect that any animation on top of any kind of mount done from Anet would have that Superb Feel that you can not get from just any mmo out there.
7. You are right this is not WOW, stop thinking that Anet would completely copy the design that wow has. I know that if Anet brings anything into the game it will be something new or very unique like I have suggested and this video @ 11:20 Colin pretty much says what I think too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z33KFeMRMA
8. Not sure what you trying to get at, I like my Engineer too and thinks she could have come up with a personal transport of the mechanical nature a long time ago….the charr have mechanical transports yet we don’t get to rage war in them….I am all for a much larger area in the mist that all out Mount Warfare could take place in.
9. Whats that Number One in the MMO business. I know quite a few gw2 players who are playing other games that would come back and play again if mounts came.
10. I am not using this to case a point so no comment.
Not Raging at you just doing the same, I like my ideas and I don’t mind stating them as well. I hope you could see some possibility with my design ideas for a nontraditional mount system.
or let us pick from the current pallet of color scheme’s already made for older Living Stories.
Ok lets play a game …..All the Neigh Sayers just IGNORE this thread. Lets see who can resits the temptation to “Just Say Neigh”. I can bet that if none of them take any incentive to add there no’s to this thread it will fall off page 1 within a few hours.
Mind you I am pro mount. I just want to see if you can kill the thread without saying anything at all.
Every 2 Weeks you add a new color scheme to the newest Living Story inside the update notes seen here https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/october-29-2013/ and here https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/november-12-2013/
What I would like to to be able to do is have a setting on the site that allows for when that Living Story is active the website and forums will display the same background color scheme instead of the red on white all the time.
Someone I was talking to said they wished that when you put the piece with celestial stats gear on the toon that would use it, that you could pick the one stat on it that you wanted to boost for whatever build you was trying and all the other stats would drop a bit more.
So I asked how he thought the stats should reflect after that he said that he meant like if you choose Power it would go up to 85 and all the other stats would drop down to 25. except for the crit which would go down 1 or 2 points. I don’t know if that would be a fair trade and balance them out more or make them more popular.
Seems whenever we get something to do with water dwelling creatures that the Largos might have something to say about that. I mean one of the Obelisk’s is right where a part of the Largos in the main story happens.
Did I miss something? What are your thoughts about the lore around the Largos and Krait?
Another thought, how about letting us and the commanders tag people in there squads/party with special tags so they can split a smaller group up to run a certain kind of assignment. Maybe the commanders could assign co-commanders with a smaller commander tag and a different color
In dungeons you could also assign the numbers to each party member to show something like who is to do something 1st and then who is to do it 2nd, for instance carrying the cultist hammer up the scaffolding in the cliffside fractal.
i did the same thing , in the middle of the night. No replies of course.
You would think that some would comment, especially trolls that love to shoot down the idea based on silly facts like “we don’t need!”
Nothing gets added to the game like this, it needs a following of some support from the community before the dev’s take notice and maybe discuss the idea amongst themselves.
I admit my dyslexia kicked in and I misread the topic…..yeah I agree with the way I misread the topic, but don’t really care for the way the topic was intended.
wth! not one single relpy. Seriously I need to stop posting my ideas in the middle of the night.
Since now its even more easier to get groups together with the Lfg tool. I think a nice addition to the game would be tag signs.
This is a valuable tool used in a lot of other similar games, where team play is expected. So why not add simple signs that you can use to tag the target, so everyone in your party can get on the same page without laying out walls of texts each time you have to fight a new mob.
Simple 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 to show order of attack priority. A circle with a / though it to show to ignore this target, allow multiple placements of these. Or use some of the already tag’s we have, maybe the crown used for the costume battles or a skull and crossbones to say this is the priority kill.
And Anet lets take this to the next level let us tag objects as well, so they can be used to signal targets of importance that are not of the player class level. This would become very useful to Commanders in WvW. And maybe in that notion Commanders Tags on targets could be seen by anyone who is helping that commander not just in his squad.(but then again commanders need to get those squads together)
I also know arenanet is watching this thread because they have already infracted a few of my posts. So I know it`s working and serving it`s purpose.
No sir that does not mean that they are watching, that could mean you are just kitten ing people off who have posted in the thread and have reported you.
Also before I forget …..Add a tab the hero panel call it Mounts of course and just like the Finishers tab works all your Mount skins are place inside this box. Everybody in game will be introduced to the mounts by training them to get the mount skill. Once you have learn the skill which you get for “free” you get the very very basic mount skin lets say Dolyak to go with it all for FREE! Now all the other skins are bought, found, introduced as meta’s for a living story achievement, hell make that the way you introduce them to the game make it a Living story and your first mount skin is there in presented to you.
Imagi.4561 & Banewrath.5107…… What if the mounts were just like a skill that you have to place on your skill bar, just like the engineer has to place the flame thrower skill on his bar. I mean this could be the operating mechanism and the sacrificial method. They could be summoned upon the use of the skill, and that summon would change your 1-5 skills to reflect the type of mount that you just summoned. I mean really unusual skill play here. Like for instance how about a mounted skill that allows you to throw a rope to a downed player and drag them out of red circles so that you could rez them. I also think while mounted, mounts should have a the ability to use the dodge feature. This may or may not have some animation, maybe when mounted you only get a small boost to the already trotting speed of 25% say up to 33% for 3 seconds.
Based on this mounts could be brought into the game in a way that has never been done in any other mmo to my recollection. I may differ from most people, but I would love to see a marriage of old and new ideas that makes the mounts that anet could give us very unique. I want all the versatility of a speed mount along with bringing new skill sets to the table that have never been done before, which only a mounted combat system could provide and all the beauty that cosmetic mounts provide.
Which I want you two champions to know that little old me had come up with this solution along time ago, if you want to snoop around in my old posts.

From what I’ve seen, Mounts are EASILY the most highly contentious topic of discussion out there. Everyone keep a cool head.
Everyone has a unique opinion, but I mainly see 3 schools of thought; 99% of the suggestions I’ve personally seen can be placed in one of these three categories.
1. Cosmetic Only
Mounts would serve the same purpose as town clothing, as the broomstick, the sonic tunneler, finishers, etc. It looks nice, but the bonus it confers is purely aesthetic.2. Speed Boost
Mounts are designed to provide some form of a speed increase, generally either 25% to be on par with traits and signets, or 33% making it effectively perma-swiftness.3. No Mounts Evar!!1!
Pretty much says it all. What do you guys say? Everyone vote, I’ll tally up the results, and we’ll see where the vocal minority that is the GW2 Forum population stands!
What about Combat Mounts or mounts with skillz.
Oh I did a little test today at the twitch live stream and asked people to vote on which one of the Four they would like in game and only two people said no mounts, while a three wanted more cosmetics, three more said give em speed, and a couple liked the idea of combat ones. Not a big pool of people answered, but I definitely seemed to be able to add up the numbers for them on there.
Only players who didn’t play GW ask for mounts. Anyone who played GW knows not to ask for them.
I played GW from start till GW2, but I’d like to see mounts in GW2.
What I do not like however, is other people determining what I would or would not like.
I’ve seen a lot of petty arguments in this thread why it should not be added, but this just tops it. It makes no sense at all.
I did say what you would like or not like. You should know by now what happens when someone brings up mounts.
Some areas are meant to be challenging like temples. But if players are just riding past most of the enemies. Those areas are too easy.
Mounts make the game too easy!
I can see your point, but what does that have to do with having played GW and therefore having a certain opinion? That does not compute.
And no, i do not “know by now”. I hardly ever read forums. The argument that mounts would make the game easy, is a narrow view.
If mobs are able to knock you off the mount, that would solve a part of it.
You would not be able to mount, if you are in combat, solves another part.
Furthermore, certain areas should be not accessible with a mount. Like dungeons and such.
Areas inaccessible with a mount, will automatically dismount you.
Quality of the mounts, could be determined by their speed, and their ability to resist against being knocked off. (like, low level mobs, but high level mobs will always be able to knock you off)With some imagination, anything is possible, without sacrificing gameplay, or making it easier.
The games AI can’t seem to react fast eighth players running by for mounts to work.
Even if a enemy could knock a players off of a mount. The enemies AI would not have time to use that ability. If mount is faster than swiftness.
How is this really any different then running by mobs with staff swiftness or a speed signet?
Anet needs to make some content harder so players using swiftness can’t just run past enemies. Good open world raid won’t happen until then.
Anet wants players to go into combat stance because they do not want you just running through mobs .
Did you ever think that the reason some of the people that want mounts to have a higher speed buff than currently available is to get to that “Good open world raid” faster.(mind you I am fine with it not exceeding current speeds)
Many times I have been on my Mesmer and was going from event to event and could not make it to the next one in time….The Waypoints that everyone loves so much as a the mainstay of travel were Contested, meaning that there is no porting close to the event which kinda makes me finally just say to kitten with the events….why bother if you arrive at the last second and get nothing for your efforts.
One thing I would love mounts to get would be skillz that helps other players. I said this along time ago, but how about a skill that allows you to throw a rope to a downed player and drag them out of combat to rez them. Or better yet when a AFK person is downed near the turrets in the Tequatyl open world raid….you can drag them over to the side so there dead bodies, don’t scale up the attacks on the turrets, having 2 champs spawn and 3 or 4 vets is terrible when only 5 people are really the only ones defending.
No mounts. I refuse to search for a key npc stuck underneath a pile of walrus dragons let alone having them cloud my visual view of the game world. It is never going to happen just like having dedicated healers. This topic has been beaten into dust, let it die already.
I have given many times over a solution to the searching for a npc, but I will tell it again.
When you get near a npc the game does a collision detection and then the hit the F button to talk to the npc thing appears on your screen. If you are mounted when you move into this area if you stand for 2 seconds in this area you will automatically be dismounted. Not to mention that the F button works on the npc regardless of your ability to see them or not. If this was a real issue at all, then you would complain that they need to do something about the over crowding around a npc like the Bankers and the TP currently, cause since the beginning, I have never seen those npc’s faces not once.
I don’t see how they cloud your view especially when there is a solution to that as well. The idea is to have a check box in your options that allow you to turn off any visuals of mounts so you only see the other persons toon.
Unlike dedicated healing, mounts are already in the game via the broom and tunneling device, can’t really say never to something that is already in here.
But like Dedicated healing “never” coming to the game, you will “never” get this topic to die.
OP is asking for cosmetic mounts then.
This game should keep cosmetic mounts different than other games.
*No dragons or other mythical creatures. They would be better as enemies anyways.
*keep them small
*Make them nonliving, magical, mechanical, Asuran, steampunk, clockwork, Cyberpunk.
*no horsesThat`s pretty limited. What`s wrong with a horse? We have a game full of mythical creatures we kill on a daily basis but yet we couldn`t ride one?
Horses would Nords too tall. Riding mythical creatures just seems too silly.
I don’t think it would be limiting for Anet to create cosmetic mounts with these themes “nonliving, magical, magic tech, mechanical, Asuran, steampunk, clockwork, Cyberpunk”.
You think a horse is silly but would accept steampunk or cyberpunk? Ok our tastes have too wide a gap. I will just leave it at that.
Horses don’t exist in Tyria?
Horses are extinct…..not “don’t exist”.
And with that being said, there is something that could bring horses back from extinction,The Mist. We go back and forth into the Mists all the time and if a cleaver Asuran found the right place to set up a portal to the area in the Mists that still had horses. Theoretically, we could have horses in “current” Tyria.
I like how both of your suggestions are in game already….except maybe for the later date thing. Which I am wondering why it has to be at a later date….seems you would want them to get it as soon as you purchase it.
