@Harper My point was just to make you understand that the Humans don’t have a better claim to Ascalon than the Charr who pushed the Grawl and Forgotten off their land, but whatever.
Technically speaking, the Human Gods are responsible for the splitting of the original Bloodstone into 5 pieces, so one could argue that they are still the creators of the modern Bloodstones, but not the original one.

My point is that the old lore isn’t wrong just because it isn’t multiracial. The old game is not invalidated because it had one playable race instead of five.

By that logic all GW2 lore should become invalid the moment GW3 launches and it also has Skritt and Quaggans as playable – because they didn’t get their say in the racially biased GW2 that only had 5 races.

Regardless of the amount of races you play as – lore is lore.

The thing is they were the creators of said bloodstones. And then the splitters. Ths is retconning and you’re just trying to justify it. Why?

I’m more upset with the lack of resolution of plot holes and unanswered questions left behind by HoT. I’ll be more than happy to get worked up over the possible retconning once we get some actual, in-depth stuff on the Pale Tree, Zojja, Logan, the Nightmare Court, and if Treesus is gonna have an actual memorial like Eir got. :x

Yes that too, the fact all these important plot lines are completely dropped and unresolved drives me crazy.

The Pale Tree, Zojja and logan almost died and were in critical condition last we saw them. That’s kinda important to follow up on (this happened several times in the PS as well). I really don’t get what’s wrong with these writers. I would love to spend a day at Anet’s writing department and see what kind of weird things transpire there.

I doubt it’s the same team that did GW1’s lore.

Story quality has really really decreased – and I was okay with it – but changing very strongly established things like this means that we can’t really take any lore or story seriously anymore since they might decide to change it again tomorrow.
Who’s to say they wont’ give us another dragon. Because why not.

Really sad.

If I had my way we’d have already offed the other races that aren’t the norn and built a new empire upon the ashes of their civilizations.

Ascalon Eternal!

I think you forget that the world was in need of saving because of humanity on most occasions.

I think you are mistaken.

Was humanity the reason The Great Destroyer nearly woke up 250 years ago?
Was humanity the reason Abbadon tried to unleash Nightfall?

Where exactly are these “most occasions” coming from? Did you even play the first game?

They also seemingly retconned much of the Mursaat lore with those tablets in Ember’s Bay. Basically the Mursaat are the missunderstood good guys all of a sudden.

I know – the reason I didn’t bring that up is that said retcon is SO bad and so blatantly against GW2 lore ( which apparently they care about more than GW1 lore) that I’m half-hoping it’s a ruse, a lie, fabricated evidence.

Still – if it turns out that they are simply going to go with this as being the actual truth – I’m honestly going to drop all interest in this game’s lore or story. It’s a shame too – because I always felt this franchise had some of the most fun, unique and interesting lore around.

it wasn’t retconned? it was exactly that.
If you’re going to make a new story – don’t center it on the old lore. The lore wasn’t biased – it was human-centric because it was the lore of a game where you could only play as humans.

That doesn’t make it biased or wrong. You have no proof that it was “biased”. It was the lore.

Why change old lore? Why not make new lore? Or create tie-ins with old lore without changing it.
I find it difficult caring about the story and becoming invested when I realize that this current lore might just as well get disregarded and re-written into whatever suits them in the future.

Why bother establishing a universe for a franchise when you’re just going to change it all up to suit whatever your whims are anyway?

How exactly were things “wrong”? Where is the evidence for it?

The story of Ascalon is well known to me – and I am well aware Humans pushed the Charr from Ascalon – what you might not be aware of is that the Charr pushed southward towards what is now Ascalon and fought the Forgotten for dominion over the area in the Blazeridge Mountains.
If anything – Ascalon belonged to neither humans nor Charr. Upon defeating the Forgotten they took the lands – which were later taken by the Humans.

They were certainly not there first and have about as much claim to the lands as any other conqueror has.

Maybe read up on your lore a bit better. Charr-lover.

The Charr were once a primitive people, filled with rage and a primal drive to dominate and control. They fought everything that threatened them – even one another – only surviving this brutal period by evolving into a strict hierarchical society. Disparate, fierce, and independent warbands unified under a single leader, the Khan-Ur, for the good of the race, and a golden age of Charr dominance began.

No longer clamoring over the same territories, the unified Charr spread throughout the northern reaches of their homeland, and down into the lands east of the Shiverpeak Mountains. The Charr subjugated or destroyed any and all who dared defy them within their territories; they were masters of all they surveyed.

With dominance, however, came the inevitable problems. Internal strife, reckless power-mongering, and brutal feuds threatened to tear apart this otherwise secure empire. Only the strong personality of the Khan-Ur kept this ferocious and, yes, still-primitive race unified.

Other than internal conflicts, the only real threat to the Charr at this time was the Forgotten, who dwelled within the Crystal Desert far to the south. But, through judicious use of the mountains dividing their lands from those of the Forgotten, the Charr continued to maintain undisputed control over the northern lands. And, as the Forgotten pulled back, called to duty by some other power, they ceased to threaten the Charr.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Ecology_of_the_Charr

This is official – established lore.

Now after reading that – look at :
https://wiki.guildwars.com/images/9/9b/Tyria_poster_map.jpg

See that big place that says “Charr homelands?” That’s where your Charr are from. That’s way north of what we call Ascalon today.

So yeah – the conquerors got conquered – Boo hoo for the charr.

So – has nobody noticed that the bloodstone lore has been completely re-written between GW1 and GW2?

During GW1 the lore established that the bloodstones were created by the human gods to contain magic.
Apparently in GW2 the lore tells us they’re made by the seers.

I’m curious how people feel about retconning things so hard. I for one dislike it.

Humans have a BIG thing against the mursaat, remember the Saul incident?

He won’t get an easy ride.

If one race is going to compromise the safety of the world, especially one as capricous and fragmented as humanity, the better off the world will be just, well, offing them, and letting Skritt or Grawl take their place. Also -humans have NO room to complain about other races being genocidal toward them, given their modus operandi to the rest of the world (Prior to the Charr and Centaur getting sick of their kitten and fighting back)

The Mursaat were doing what they thought was best for the survival of their own race and the world – They ‘betrayed’ the first alliance because the Forgotton were demanding a Stupid Plan. Then they were cruel to the new vermin populating the world when they came back to save the world from destruction at the hands of the Titans.

I think you forget that humanity is the race that saved the world a few times over in GW1. Not the other races.

Just wanted to get everyone’s feelings about the latest changes to Fractals.

I think it’s too soon to offer an opinion. People need a chance to let go of the old way of doing things first.

The only problem is that the old way of doing FOTM was appropriate for the rewards they gave. The current form is too over the top.

Especially how poorly tuned some of the instabilities are.

I love that they are making substantial (but not massive) changes every few months. This is what we keep asking of them: keep it fresh. Incremental changes seemingly take nearly the same effort and aren’t as fun for us.

Plus, by trying new things, they keep getting better.

Sure, some the combinations of instabilities are hateful, but this is better than being stuck with Boon Thieves for another 2 years. Especially since if they keep on this pace, the instabilities will keep evolving towards something that’s more fun to repeat.

Fractals aren’t fresh. They can never be “fresh” again – because they’re old. Making them more annoying isn’t going to get more people to do them.

ANet simply didn’t learn the number one lesson from HoT. I don’t understand; after admitting their mistake, and trying to correct some of the overpowering changes in HoT, they turn around and apply them to fractals instead.

ANet, you need MORE of the reductions in grossly-overpowering content, not less.

Fractals are supposed to be challenging content; T4 fractals are supposed to be the most challenging 5-person content in the game — if there was a mistake, it was in how they handled open world content that is meant to be accessible to everyone.

Challenging, not annoying. There is a difference in this. It is just more difficult without any real reward for the amount of time it can take. This in itself is annoying, going through time consuming content just to be poorly rewarded.

Fractals are dead to me until the rewards are also on par.

Some people find them challenging. Most find the rewards really good compared to other instanced content. I’m sorry you don’t like them.

Rewards when looked at through the annoyance of the latest patch and the changes it brought are poor.

The content is poorly designed – not challenging. I dislike the new changes and only do a few select fractals now – I’m looking forward to less and less people doing it so they realize they did something wrong and revert these changes.

And Caithe is in “Eggstasy”! The final chapter was fantastic and epic.

The dragon’s design is horrid. It’s “cute” – I’ll give you that but my question is this: Was it really supposed to be cute?

The way it looks ruins immersion for me – it looks more like a pet than something that’s central to the plot.

Also – it looks creepy with those eyes – just like more Asura and especially Rox. Big eyes do not make things better. I wish whoever designs these things would get it.

It also looks NOTHING like Glint or the original Baby Dragon you defend in GW1. It’s not spiky – doesn’t have sharp bits. It looks like a chibi fan-service of what Glint might look like in a goofy spin-off.

The Circus

Literally the most out of place thing in the Ember Isles.

I was thrown off a little by the Skritt being in such a desolate and destructive environment, but accepted them when I learned about them being “whipped into shape” by the Dwarf head and it made more sense that they were there.

But The Circus. like why would there be a Circus out in the middle of a highly destructive volcanic area? This literally made no sense at all to me.

Maybe some clarity for it in the next episode?

I agree – I hate the skritt – but it could make sense if you stretch your imagination. Sure – they’re absurdly poor at everything but they’re at least being guided by the dwarf and are generally in the less hostile areas of the island.

-Note: this does not mean I wouldn’t have rather NOT had the skritt be a part of this episode – or the game from now on.

The circus however…that was just full blown wrong.
Hype an area to be a very deadly place – full of surprises and deadly foes at every step and even set it up so thematically with lava, and skulls and volcanoes and generally things that you associate with danger and then ruin everything by dropping a circus on top of it.

I get the need for comic relief – but it should be SUBTLE and ON THE SIDE not smack down in the middle of things. IT RUINS IMMERSION to an extent that made me not even want to see what’s up in that area – just run away from it and pretend it didn’t exist.

This sort of stuff needs to be toned down.

I have seen a few references in this forum concerning a Hard/Easy mode for this game, but I still do now understand why this is not possible. This would solve the problem for people like me. Anet could scale the rewards down for the easy mode to be fair.

The problem here is that a lot of the things in the game aren’t easily “scaleable” – you can work with mob HP and stats but things like gliding on a ley-line, jumping off things and other ways of environmental interaction are just dichotomous by nature – you can either do them or you can’t.

Theoretically a more streamlined – more “cinematic” experience with little input required from the player could be made but you have to ask yourself is it really worth the development time?

It wouldn’t be something you could just “slap together easy” – it would mean fundamental redesigns to areas and entire game systems and mechanics to make them work with situations such as yours. That would require a LOT of developer time. And it would be great for you – and some others – but I have a feeling not very many would benefit from it – so I doubt they will do it.

I do understand how you feel – I’m sorry you feel you’re losing the game. Maybe find some friends to help you out?

I’m going to give some Ember Bay and story feedback because that’s all I played.

Ember Bay:
-Overall the map looks good – lighting/sky is fenomenal. The rocks and ground look too “washed out” – a stronger darker grey would be good.

-The map feels a bit too busy and not lethal enough – things just don’t feel the same as they did in GW1 – it’s no longer a deadly environment.

-Adding Skritt and a circus to the map definitely ruin most if not all of the fun for me since they destroy and I mean totally obliterate suspension of disbelief.

-Please no more hearts. They weren’t good when the game launched and they’re not good now. They’re tedious and give out little to no rewards.

Story: – SPOILERS AHEAD-

There are a lot of things wrong with it but why for the love of the 6 gods does the little dragon have to be a chibi big-eyed thing? Why can’t it look more “serious”?
I felt like leaving it for the destroyers.

I like the map overall – but feel there are a few things that it “missed”.

First and foremost it does not feel like a deadly and dangerous place. Sure – maybe that’s because there were a lot of people around but it never really felt like the desolate and deadly place it used to be in GW1.

Second of all something that completely ruins my suspension of disbelief is that it’s FULL of skrit and worst of all – a circus.
I expected completely different things from such a lethal environment. Instead I got skrit and clowns. That does not help me immerse in the story or the lore.

The map is somewhat difficult to navigate – but not overly so. Another thing is that the color palette seems a bit too “washed out” – not a lot of very dark grey – feels a bit off.

Overall – the map is alright – it’s just upsetting that some elements feel out of place and odd.

There were two complete sets of armor for each weight and each race released with the HoT maps that are purchasable with HoT currencies, bladed armor and leyline armor. Perhaps I didn’t understand your point.

Unfortunately that’s pretty bad for an entire expansion.

I want all existing outfits to also unlock armor skins of the appropriate weight.

You don’t even have to give out transmute charges with them, just unlock their various parts as skins.

They’re all built on the existing light/med/heavy armor rigs anyway, and their very existence throws the idea of “recognizable class silhouettes” out the window.

This would in no way impact outfit sales, and would in stead make them more attractive purchases for all players.

I fully agree with this. There are more than a few outfits out there I haven’t bought because I can’t just use the parts that I like. If this were an option – be sure I’d buy a few more outfits just to use the good bits in them with my armor!

I don’t know…the arguments don’t seem to hold much weight.

Not the majority but still too many. The big shinny ??? is to obscure the reward. Otherwise you get people who preview it and want it now.

So you motivate players by NOT telling them what a reward is? How is this even real?

I thought the cap was 15,000. Where can I acquire these other 10,000 Daily APs?

What is the point of having rewards that are unreachable? How difficult would it be to design some new weapons skins? Or new Glider skins? Or even new Backpack skins? No one stated it must be armor. Those items seem to appear quite often in the Gem Store, or as other Achievement rewards.

Yes it’s 15k my bad. Which means there is 4k more permanent AP than the daily.
With the achievement point reward structure there will always be rewards that are unreachable, that’s the nature of the achievement rewards.

And I already gave a solution to that. Make the items at higher un-viewable and un-previewable in the wardrobe, just put a big shinny ? on them. Problems solved

The more i read the more absurd it gets.
This is WRONG. A reward in an MMO can be difficult, hard, or a pain to reach but having unreachable rewards defeats the point of said reward existing in the first place.

It’s absurd.

Would I motivate you to do something if I told you I’d give you 10.000USD BUT you knew you’d never get the money? If you know you’ll never get it – does it still motivate you?

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harper.4173

Harper.4173

The point of this thread is asking to remove the cap. Right now, because of the cap, no one can reach the end-goal content from the achievement panel. No one. That’s his and Harper’s point.

Here is where you are wrong, there is no end-goal content to reach because there is no end to how many AP you can get in the future. And there is no drain for them either, you don’t spend them as they are not a currency and you don’t lose any if you stop playing.

When someone gets to 42k AP chances are we will already have 45k and 48k rewards available to preview in the wardrobe. It’s a never ending cycle and at the current rate they won’t need to add 45k and 48k rewards any time soon and focus on more important rewards that everyone can get.

Removing the cap will both require the devs to create new rewards for the APs sooner, because hey if they remove the daily cap why not all other caps? Dungeons? Fractals? Why stop at the daily cap? Let’s remove all caps so you get 3k AP in 6 months and ask the devs to add more rewards on the achievement panel just because.

You also need to realize that the majority of the APs in the game come from that cap. There are just ~19k permanent Achievement Points in the game available and 25k from the daily cap. The permanent points are already devalued enough, as many pointed out already, and removing the cap will devalue them even further.

Here’s what you’re not getting – their JOB is to create content. The currency I spend to get that content is TIME. It’s also real life money on the TP.

Your argument is amusing – don’t let the player get the reward so Anet doesn’t have to make another one. Well then that reward is non-existent to players.

A reward serves the purpose of being a carrot on a stick – getting you to play (and maybe even pay for a gem store thing or two in the process) in order to achieve it. It’s natural that once you get it you’ll want another carrot. And it’s natural that the devs GIVE you another carrot to chase.

If the reward is clearly unobtainable then it won’t make anyone chase it. If I know I can’t get that skin how can it serve its purpose to motivate me to work towards it?

I have already explained that my argument is to remove the DAILY achievement TOTAL cap because it’s already SOFTCAPPED by being a daily. You can do it once per day.

That way it means that Anet wins by motivating you to log in once a day with said APs.
Removing all caps on all repeatable achievement things might not be a goal for them because they wouldn’t profit from it nearly as much. And by profit I mean get people to log in consistently so that they eventually see something on the gem store they’ll be willing to spend money on.

You don’t seem to get it. This is an MMO. They have to make rewards to keep people playing.

Yes obviously. They add new rewards in new content that’s how it has always been. That has nothing to do with the achievement rewards though. There is absolutely no reason to add new rewards on the achievement track every so often, they add other things for players to go for. Or you are saying the only reason you play an MMORPG is for the amount of Achievement Points you have, then it’s just sad.

The argument that “if they give you this reward they’ll have to make another” is nonsensical. Making rewards is what they do.
In a sense they “sell” us these rewards and we buy them with money and time.

Yes for currencies that is true, that’s why most currencies have ways of spending them to get simple things like bags of masterwork items to salvage for some extra loot, or exotic items to salvage for ectos etc

But Achievement Points are NOT a currency, you can’t spend them and you can’t lose them in any way.

Every so often? When was the last time rewards were added to the AP chests?
They add other stuff too – but they can add this stuff too. More stuff is always better.

Why is it true for currencies and not AP?
I am not spending AP -but I am spending time to gain AP. Ultimately it’s still SOMETHING for something else.

It’s not “virtually” unattainable. It’s flat out unattainable, there’s not enough available APs in the game. And at the current rate it might be years before the first person gets one (seeing as Anet gives out less and less APs for achievements).

And if there were enough APs in the game to get those items then they’d have to add another reward higher up, then we’d have the same discussion. “I can’t get the Radiant backpiece” is not a very good argument. If they give you enough AP for it, then they will have to add the next reward, and then the next one after it.

There is no reason to constantly add rewards on the AP track, just because some people want their AP number to increase daily. The unattainable ones serve as future proofing, something to get in the future when there are enough APs for it.

Maybe next time they add rewards at AP levels nobody can reach they should make them items with a big shinny “?” instead of allowing us to preview them in the wardrobe. Telling us “you will get something when you reach that point but it’s not in the game yet”

And at 39K, it’s virtually unattainable. Don’t you need like nearly every AP currently available in game to get it? Maybe that’s the point. Only those who get nearly all the other achievements, plus the 15K from dailies only deserve to get it.

Currently, Nobody is even within 5000 AP of earning it.

I’m not sure what the point of the cap is at all.

That’s exactly it.
HoT came with around 1700 APs. Let’s say it’s 2000. That still means the HIGHEST AP guy in this game is 2 expansions away from getting it.
TWO expansions. ( and some change for LS seasons).
That might be as much as 4-6 years in the future. Do you think GW2 has that long?

Daily AP at least offered a steady path towards those skins.

The reason the cap was put into place was because people didn’t want to log in every single day for 10AP to stay ahead on the leaderboard

No, it was because they didn’t want to do every possible achievement each day to stay ahead. Which took too much of their precious time.

That reason no longer exists.

You do have a valid point about the backpacks being unreachable, but the solution is not more daily AP. The solution is simply adding more AP on the newer achievements. The LS3 achievs so far have been very underwhelming in terms of AP.

If they increase the cap, then they will have to keep making rewards for the limited amount of people who do dailies every single day, and I believe that dev time can be spent in better places.

Newer achievements come with content – Anet isn’t producing content. See the problem?

AP form content. But not enough content. So then how can you have enough AP?

You must give AP that’s not tied to content.

Ideally I agree – AP should come tied to content – BUT how will that change the fact that we are barely getting content in this game?

But dailies now give 2 gold which is much more useful so there’s your reward, even if you don’t like the token daily chest items or spirit shards.

I’d gladly exchange that 2 gold from dailies for ability to get AP from them again.

But why? How are AP useful beyond the occasional chest?

Got it the first time Harper. And no I don’t rub people’s faces in my AP but have been on the receiving end of those that use AP as a requirement to play with them, join their guild, etc.

My point is this – at 39k EVEN if you have nearly all the other achievements AND the 15 from dailies you will still most likely never get it before this game is done provided Anet keeps the influx of content and AP tied to said content at current levels.

That’s what I’m saying.
I might not get it – sure – but there’s a real chance nobody might.

Ok what I heard in your last post is whining. You want the skin from AP chests yet you want it to be handed to you. You outright claim that you would rather not farm the rest of the available AP you can get and simply do 10 min of work a day for 10 AP and wait it out, and don’t seem to have a problem with most of your AP coming from doing essentially nothing.

If your issue with this is really only that you want these skins then you should be campaigning for ANet to add more achievements into the game with each release, and to up the amount of AP earned with each achievement. Because the current AP awards are much less than what they were in S1. If they were simply bumped up to those levels then we wouldn’t even be in this situation.

Exactly is, Anet should add more achievements (and make some existing ones more rewarding, because the effort vs AP reward ratio on some achievements is a joke; if Anet is unable to balance it by themselves they can contact me and I will help to work it ouf for them) instead of handing out AP on silver platterns via 5min effort dailies.
It is bad enough that currently 45% of the max possible AP come from dailies. For most people who play since early times, over half their AP are from dailies.

I wont consider supporting any daily cap increases before the daily AP falls below 20% of the max possible AP.

I agree with you – the effort vs AP ratio on most achievements now is a joke.
I agree that more AP should come into the game through new content.

However – seeing how much new content Anet has managed to deliver do you really think this is a fix? They’re not putting out enough content as to provide enough AP to get those high-tier rewards. Because they can’t.

“Want it handed to you!” is such a bull-gravy attack. Wants something in a 2 year time frame v. 6 year = “handed to you” … smh.

Maybe Harper is more ready to believe ANet has the chops and will to remove a cap and unwilling to believe they’ll majorly revamp AP in any other way. I certainly have no faith that ANet will do the latter.

I wouldn’t mind the 6 years either – BUT most likely GW2 will be done 6 years from now. Or maybe even earlier.

This is an MMO – eventually they die out. I’d rather have my reward before the game is left in the dust.

Like you said – they won’t revamp the AP system. Most they’ll do is remove the cap. Because it’s easy. Revamping not only requires a lot of work but can also create a LOT more dissatisfied players than simply removing a cap would.

You seem to have some issues with reading comprehension.
The problem is that I can’t farm the AP because it doesn’t even exist in the game.
IF there was enough AP in this game to get to 39k I would start farming it – the problem is that there isn’t – and there might never be.

You’re right – I won’t start farming NOW for something that I might never be able to finish because of factors that aren’t under my control.

If I knew there was a 100% surefire way to get to the backpiece – i would farm. I am a farmer at heart. I will however not farm unless I know for a fact it’s possible to obtain – which it currently isn’t.

I am not asking for a hand-out – I am asking for CERTAINTY. I want to know that If i start grinding I can get my item.

I don’t ask for more AP with future releases because in case you haven’t noticed THERE IS TOO LITTLE CONTENT COMING IN THIS GAME.

They’re not going to make more content than they are because they can’t. So yes – I would like more AP but unlike others i’m down to earth enough to realize that MORE AP tied to content won’t be a solution – BECAUSE ANET CAN’T PRODUCE CONTENT FAST ENOUGH.

Look and marvel at its complete glory. Take it all in. Behold the backpiece to end all backpieces.

Let’s look at some facts. Highest AP on the NA servers atm are around 33k. Let’s ignore the fact that I’m at 25k. Let’s say I do some of the stuff I didn’t do yet and get to 33k.

How many APs have been added to the game in the last year? What about the last two years?
As far as I’ve calculated it’s about 1k per year. So it would take the TOP AP farmers in GW2 about 6 more years to get the backpiece.
6 more years – do you think the game will keep going that long? It would be 10 years from the game’s original launch that you could get it if the current AP addition continues.

That’s IF you are at 33k now.
If you’re at 25k like me – it’ll take even longer provided I don’t start focusing and grinding AP and doing just that.

Don’t you see a problem with that?

Having rewards in the game that are so heavily gated that the game might be done before anyone gets them is a design flaw in my opinion.

If the cap is removed – provided one can log in daily for let’s say 320 days a year ( maybe you can’t log in every day) one will get an additional 3200 APs per year. Couple that with the 1000-1500 APs Anet might add through content every year and it’s still TWO years away (more or less) – but at least it’s much much closer and feels attainable.

If the gameplay has devolved to where 99% of the game is no longer worth playing beyond login and daily rewards, then I think it’s time to find a new game.

I mean, if most of the game doesn’t even matter to you, then there really is no point bothering to cater a reward system to your needs.

Honestly, I don’t see an argument for lifting the cap beyond you wanting more AP.

That’s not what I said. The game does matter but it does so through the rewards.
I’ve sank 4.6k hours into this game. I’ve done everything a few times over. What keeps me coming back is that next “fix” of cosmetic items, skins, cool things.

I don’t really play GW2 for the “gameplay experience” since I know most of that by heart anyway.
Except for WvW and PvP and Raids the game doesn’t really have “interesting gameplay” to keep me going. I play the same old stuff over and over chasing skins.

I mean, if most of the game doesn’t even matter to you, then there really is no point bothering to cater a reward system to your needs.

Yes there is – because regardless of what matters to me keeping me involved, playing and coming back means you’ll keep me spending money on the game AND spending time – both of which benefit the game.
Money goes towards development. My play time goes toward maintaining a numerous and vital community.

Anet has every reason to want to keep me playing.

If my daily log-in AP and rewards go away – so might my log-ins. This is an MMO – i am kept here and still play because of a sense of progression. The less I progress the less I feel inclined to play.

Exactly this. Chasing the carrot has always been more fun than catching it. Once you have it, you chase a new carrot. That’s the nature of MMOs. Otherwise, why bother adding new loot and achievements?

Very few carrots in the game right now for hardcore players. Invested – dedicated players.
I won’t make stuff I don’t like or don’t use – so while I don’t have every legendary in the game I have every legendary I’m going to make out of the current lot. I have all the prestige skins I want.
I need something to work towards – and there’s simply not much there.

With legendary armor coming god knows when and Legendary weapons “indefinitely on hold” high-end AP backpieces are something I would focus on.

But AP is such a worthless reward. It’s only use is to wave it in another player’s face. Sure you get the occasional AP chest, now. As an aside, at the start we didn’t even get chests. But dailies now give 2 gold which is much more useful so there’s your reward, even if you don’t like the token daily chest items or spirit shards.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Radiant_Backguard_Skin

It’s not worthless. That’s one of the few good skins left in the game for me.
Your AP use might be different than mine – maybe you like to wave it in another player’s face. I occasionally use it to judge how a player might perform before I group up – but it has more value to me as a means to an end – and that end is right there. The backpiece.

Two gold is useless to me. I know how to farm. I’ll take the gold but I want my AP reward.
My reward is currently AP+gold+spirit shards. I want my full reward. If my reward lessens so will my play time.

It’s very simple.

It’s more about asking Anet to design new achievements with the new maps, both PvE and PvP, in the future to award achievement points like they used to (They design a point reward system, then not only remove a lot of achievements as content was never permanent, but then replace achievements not only at a slower rate, but with less AP to boot.) Use meta achievements like they’ve done with The Shatterer, Tequatl and Triple-Headed Wurm, instead of 1APs and 3APs here and there for collections and Personal story, not even being consistent about it.
For example, you get the same AP if you craft two of the same legendary, as if you craft 5 unique legendaries. For completing Triple Trouble achievement in total you get 135AP, for completing The Shatterer achievement you get 110AP, and I actually think the Shatterer achievement takes longer to complete due to it’s requirements. Plus lots of other examples I could dig up but I’m on mobile right now.
All in all, I really hope these new maps are going to have some good AP tied into them, both repeatable (with the new repeatable Hearts they’re adding) and one time only that award a consistent amount compared to previous achievements before Heart of Thorns.
So yeah the daily AP cap isn’t about catching up, it’s about not having a source of infinite AP, just like every other achievement is capped.
I do wonder how many would bother to complain if the daily points were displayed in the Hero tab instead, with 15,000 tiers awarding 10AP each tier, so you knew it had a cap. Instead of as it is now upon hovering over the achievement points total.

Yeah – I addressed this before.
New AP tied to new maps in both PvP and PvE is not really a solution because they are so slow at producing content that it doesn’t really matter. Look at how slowly content comes into this game.

I can get more AP from daily log-ins between Living world episodes than from the living world episode itself.

I believe there should be an infinite source of AP coming into the game because at the rate AP is coming in we might never see the chance to get those high-tier AP rewards simply because GW2 might well be dead by then.

I would agree with yon on paper – but given the content drought and their incapacity to put out enough content – I’d rather take log-in AP than no AP.

Agreed. I’m surprised at some of the responses here and elsewhere. The argument is basically, “Let others catch up while you get nothing.”

That seems rather one-sided. But let’s go with that. When will ‘everyone’ catch up? When can we then raise the bar as far as the cap?

Except that you still get 2 gold and 3 spirit shards for doing your dailies, among either karma, mats, PvP/WvW reward track potions. You aren’t getting nothing if you have maxed your daily AP. You are still getting quite a lot from them.

Don’t cherry pick. That has nothing to do with this discussion. We’re talking about AP. They can keep all the gold and spirit shards involved. That’s not the point of this thread. Nor the point of progressing your achievement tab.

Your example has nothing to do with what you quoted. Nothing to do with the cap. And nothing to do with this ‘waiting for everyone to catch up’ excuse.

You’re the one cherrypicking here. You claim that the argument is “Let others catch up while you get nothing.”, which is simply not true.

Just because you are not getting AP from the dailies anymore does not mean you are getting nothing from them. You can’t claim that you get nothing from them, as that is cherrypicking and borderline pedantic. Using your arguments, I should be compensated extra for doing more than 3 dailies each day because I’m “getting nothing” for the extra dailies I do.

Dailies reward everyone, you can’t justifiably deny that. And besides, its not like a newer player is going to catch up to the people who have maxed out their AP from dailies anyway, its just not going to happen, even if ANet just maxed out the daily AP for everyone, these players missed out on all of the extremely generous AP from season 1 releases. They are never going to come close to you.

Let’s make this simple. I am AP capped for my daily AP. You are not.

I log in.
You log in.
I get nothing.
You get something.
We both did the same thing – I did it for longer and am still doing it now yet I’m no longer rewarded for it.
Why?

Cause you’ve been successfully conditioned to login and do dailies. You don’t need that food pellet anymore, you just tap that little buzzer to your heart’s content.

I don’t do dailies for the AP, I do them simply to do something. I do them for the 3 shards that I then use to promote mats for profit. I do them for the token karma or reward track bonus. I certainly don’t do them just to have a big number or the fugly weapon and armor skin. I’m surprised when I get a chest cause I’m not playing for the AP total.

The 2 gold now is a nice bonus I wish they started years ago but I tend to give half of that away to friendly mesmers on days when I finally get frustrated by a JP and take the shortcut they offer.

No I haven’t.
I don’t log in because of dailies – I log in because of rewards. You stop givine me rewards and I will stop logging in.

This is an MMO – i am kept here and still play because of a sense of progression. The less I progress the less I feel inclined to play.

To put it simply – no food pellet – no monkey button press. You might have been conditioned to do dailies “just to do something” but I and a lot of the people I know do them exclusively because of the rewards. Rewards go? I stop.

Do I still do dungeons? Not really – ever since the rewards got nerfed first.
Do I Still do EOTM? Not really – since the rewards got nerfed.
I play for rewards – no rewards? No play.

I certainly don’t do them just to have a big number or the fugly weapon and armor skin.

I agree – the weapons are bad and armor is ugly but the radiant back piece is the best looking back piece in this game.

I’m surprised when I get a chest cause I’m not playing for the AP total.

Congratulations – they’ve almost conditioned you to play for free.

The 2 gold now is a nice bonus I wish they started years ago but I tend to give half of that away to friendly mesmers on days when I finally get frustrated by a JP and take the shortcut they offer.

When they started this I started doing dailies on my second account. More reward = more play.
