A question about pistol thieves.

in Thief

Ok – so I’ve never played thief before but i’m quite attracted to the class and concept. I’ve been thinking of leveling a thief but for reasons that are beside the point i’d like to use pistols.

All the thieves i’ve seen in PVE and PVP so far use daggers / swords and other types of melee weapons.

So my question to you – the thief playing part of the community is this:

Are there any viable PVP and PVE builds for a pistol thief? Is there any chance that I could get to play this class the way I want and still be effective and not have people tell me " noob – reroll to this or that " .

Looking forward to your input. Thanks!

After this terrible fail at breathing new life into the warrior they’ll probably fix it the next time around. At least i don’t see how they could break it even more.

But does it give you a 150 boost or 70 as indicated in the buffs bar?

I also feel that build diversity has been decreased. I ran a hybrid knight/zerker and I feel that my build has been hit harder than pure zerker. Way to go about promoting diversity.
This build has forced me to actually increase my damage output and decrease my defenses since it’s the only viable option. Otherwise my build will just be worse than pre-patch.

I really hope they understand that promoting build diversity and just ruining a class even worse is different.

Three simple questions.

1)Does it affect the warrior carrying it as well as the others around him?
2)Does it stack?
3)Why isn’t it working? – the in-game description is right but it still shows as 70 power when its effect is active. Nor can I tell if even the 70 power buff is being applied to my char.

So- anyone got any answers? I was really hoping to make this trait essential and a core part of my new post-warrior nerf build.

If these are true then we’ve been rolled over once again.

No passive sustain – with a huge damage nerf. With Berserker’s power and Heightened focus on grandmaster we’re basically out of the game. Just saying.

100 Blades, its going to be reworked or not?

Greatsword, and hammer for that matter, are fine. They’re easily the most used weapons in the game which just further shows they don’t need to be changed.

100B is a perfect reward for good teamwork, or paying attention to an opponents dodges/stun breakers. Its an amazing burst that can bring down up to 3 people with one use. As mentioned before, if you make it mobile it will have to have its damage decreased which will in the end hamper the warrior even more. Also, more then likely if you couldn’t land a 100B before then you wouldn’t be able to hit with it while mobile either.

None of the greatsword (or hammer) skills need to be changed in the way they function.

That’s why the damage should be left as is while making the skill mobile.
Warriors will never be OP in SPVP since guess what – we have NO sustain and I doubt they’ll give us any in the near future.
Toning down the damage would cripple this class – even as a mobile channel skill the 100b is still one dodge away from being evaded.
It doesn’t need to go to the F1 skill slot, it doesn’t need to have its damage nerfed.

Think about it this way – if they make it mobile and nerf the damage because of that you’ve hardly balanced warrior in sPVP but you’ve completely killed the class in PVE.
As the current meta goes – the warrior’s only reason for being in groups is the damage it brings to the table. It doesn’t bring utility ( like mesmers/ guardians/ eles) and doesn’t have the tanking/sustain ability a guardian brings. The only thing the warrior brings to the table in PVE is damage. Without it the class dies and will become underplayed and unwanted.

In your rush to consider how to balance warriors in PVP you’ve forgotten that there’s also PVE.
I think they should at least consider split skills if they want to do the sort of radical change that would most likely kill this class in PVE.
Warriors have been one of the most hard-hit by game balance classes since the game launched. This has been covered up by the fact that they do high damage in PVE but really that’s all we have.
Do we have any viable PVP build? no.
Do we have any sustain in PVP ? no.
Do we have any sustain in PVE ? no.
Do we have any utility in PVE? no. ( And no – banners don’t even compare to mass quickness, blocks and heals, portals and mass invisibility that allow you to skip content like crazy).

This class needs a buff – not being nerfed intro the ground. I wonder how much the people who play here actually love this class and how many just post because it’s " the lulz".

Remove the root it does to the war and its fine in its current form. Allow for the user to move with their target.

no, then its damage would be nerfed, don’t people see that 100b only hits so hard because it roots the player? if it didn’t have that risk it wouldn’t have such a nice reward.

Also please go pick up a gs and flail it about while running and see how viable that is.

First : Stop saying switching GS F1 and 100B would help warriors in any way – protip : IT WON’T. It will make the class weaker. The only thing we have going for us in PVE now is damage. PvP-wise we’re as underpowered as it gets with no ability for sustain and no real means to deliver our damage. Taking 100B and making it an F1 skill will simply KILL the warrior class. I’m not surprised if those suggesting it play other classes and only suggest this to troll us.

Second : 100B – as i’ve explained above has no risk/reward mechanism anymore. It deals a lot of damage but with no risk just a root. This damage is useless in PVP since it roots you in place and PVE-wise I don’t believe anybody is at " risk " anymore by the root. People have figured out the game already.
I know you think you have an idea of what you’re talking about but come back to me when you have 500+ hours of warrior played.

Also this is a fantasy game – the " it wouldn’t work in real life " argument doesn’t apply here. Do you even play this game?

Remove the root it does to the war and its fine in its current form. Allow for the user to move with their target.

+1. It’s all it needs really.
For the people say this is OP : Think it through – if you’re using it while moving a simple dodge away will get the intended target out of your reach. So no – it is not OP. It can be easily dodged since the target can roll away from you as you’re running by them with your 100b.

100b is NOT a bad skill – FOR PVE. In PVE you should be able to hit it just right and the loss of moblity balances out nicely with the fact that you deal a lot of damage quickly.
This works in PVE because mobs don’t run away.

In PVP 100b is next to useless because GW2 is a mobility-based game. Everyone can run and have effective and well thought out built in escape mechanisms. Even if you CC Them they can just use a break stun or remove condition and run while you swing your blade in the air like a maniac.

The solution would be 100B mobility. It would allow for pressure to be added without making it overpowered in PVE. Let’s face it – PVE content has already been done to death and everyone knows where to stand, when to dodge, and so on up to the point where 100b rooting you in place isn’t even an issue anymore.

In all honesty – maybe this is just nostalgia here but i liked the old 100b that we had in GW1. It was nice, fun, effective and although this is a very different game I still miss it. Maybe they could look to that for some inspiration. I’m not saying make this skill that one – I’m saying remember that 100B was once a useful and powerful skill – and try to get that in the gam again.

Also – skill 5 for the GS also needs a rework. It should basically be a blink. Rush is unreliable and bad.

Here’s the deal – You don’t need that much to make sure your content works. Just give it one or two days of playing it before you launch. Get some players to do it if you have to but this untested content launch deal has to stop.
4 gold is not a lot – but the idea that I lost it because someone was cheating AND A-net just let that happen is the real problem.
I’ve payed for the game. I’ve bought probably around 10-15k gems since this game has started. Maybe more. I feel that as a consumer A-net should take more care with the content they deliver and with the overall experience it offers.
If I don’t like new content – that’s fine ( my problem) . But if new content gives other players a way to scam me without me having any clue. Then that’s a problem.

And no – banning them won’t actually fix anything. They did what they did because they wanted gold. All players want gold. The problem is that they had the chance to do it. That has to be fixed. Content has to be more carefully looked at before it is released to the players.

Just asking, I won my first moa race but didn’t get any achievement contribution. Am I the only one? :<

How about this? I got an achievement point ( for taking first prize in a Moa Race) but didn’t get any tokens. How fun is that? This needs to be fixed. I have attached the screencap with the achievement at 1/3. But no tokens ( Anet can check that in my received mails). So how about some restitution for these bugs?

Also – if people were cheating i suppose there should be a rollback on the gold lost on the Moa track. I seriously don’t understand why these things aren’t checked before they’re released.

It would be INCREDIBLY easy to check for exploits such as these. Just get 100 randomly selected players and promise 100 gold to the first player who can break ( exploit) your content. Then fix it before you release it. Is that so hard?

and please get rid of 100b – or at least cut dmg and duration in half.

Yes – please ruin the only thing the warrior has going for it now. Makes perfect sense. Why do you even bother posting if you have nothing constructive to add? Your post doesn’t offer solutions – just your personal experience with a class you have no idea about.

There are a lot of people here saying warrior might receive a damage nerf- why would that be a good idea? It’s the only thing keeping it in the game.
The warrior doesn’t need a damage NERF- it needs a utility and sustain BUFF.
If you take away the only thing going for it might as well take it out of the game.

People are concerned over tPVP vs PVE warrior balance. Guess what – split skills solve that. I don’t really see what the big deal is.

Can we get this topic back on track?

@Leo.

Those things you mentioned don’t stack – damage does. But since damage cannot be delivered reliably in PVP the only measure is PVE. And no matter how much damage you have it will never beat a skip. Skip means you’ve lost 0 time and moved on. Check how Arah is speed farmed. That’s how much these things trivialize content. More than warrior’s ( or any other class’ ) damage.

I have a problem with " get out of jail free cards " in general. They ruin the gameplay.
If you’re stupid enough to be out of position/ to pick a fight wrong – you should pay the price.
They’ve made the game too accessible to " casual players " with the quickness nerf and the " save me i’ve done something wrong " skills tossed around like candy on Christmas.

As far as the grass being greener and all that. Other classes don’t have it much better ( ele / engi ) but some classes have it too good ( thief / mesmer / guardian). The idea is that warriors have it the worst as far as I see it since we’re basically forced into Berserker PVE builds – having no sustain in both PVP or PVE.

@Leo- invisibility / teleports / reflect offer a lot of utility. It allows them to skip a lot of PVE content.

The problem is that in sPVP – where the warrior is weakest – these mechanics are not properly balanced. Maybe it’s just me but Warrior is the only make or break class in sPVP right now. Every other class has a viable " I made a mistake – i want out " button.

That being said i’m not even now 100% accepting the " invisibility " mechanic. It’s rather OP. It has no counter in the game and is an instant back out of any bad situation.
Warrior PVE is not the issue here – nor is the damage. The problem is that there’s no actual way to deliver this damage in sPVP. Why? Because like i said before this game has too many " get out of jail free cards". Doesn’t matter that I knock someone down, or stun him, he pops a button and wanders off leaving me slashing the air like a madman.

I’ve been reading through all of this and have a few things to add. I’ve been playing only warrior since the game’s launch and have over 800 hours on it.

As far as I see it the problems are as follow:

1. Lack of sustain – simple as that. A warrior is a melee class that cannot sustain the engagements it was intended for. If I can’t heal I can’t fight. And since I have to be melee I’ll probably take more hits on average in order to get into my effective engagement range. But guess what – our heals are BELOW AVERAGE.
Fix? Healing Signet needs a buff.

2.Too easy to shut down – gap closers are long CD skills that like people stated above are TOO easy to counter with a basic cripple. We simply can’t pressure. And spike is out of the question since ALL classes have a " you’re in trouble time to get out " button.
This is a problem i think with the game – there’s no ability to spike. EVERY class can push a button and become invulnerable or unreachable. Which forces you in a pressure game that warrior cannot keep up with.

3.Lack of utility- The only reason warrior isn’t as bad in PVE as it is in sPVP and Roaming WvW is the fact that it has ONE thing going – Damage. Enough damage to keep it in the game. But it needs more than that – warriors need to get some DECENT utility skills.

No – not banners – those are " cute " at best – when compared to much more “OP” things such as teleports / mass invisibility/ walls that reflect damage and keep foes out.
Those sort of skills provide “Absolute” effects. They don’t just give you a minor stat bonus. They give you the ability to SKIP a lot of problems , to AVOID a huge amount of damage and so on. They’re very useful and I think warriors should have something similar. Or at least should receive some form of decent compensation.

That’s my two cents right there. There’s a lot more to say and add but you guys have nailed most of the points and it’s getting pretty late.

Arena Net – if you’re reading this please take into account that the player base is asking for a balanced class to play -one that doesn’t have just damage(which is the only thing keeping us in the game – otherwise there’d be NO reason at all for anyone to play war/ take a war in a party ) but also is a viable counter in pvp to all those “OP” classes we see so much these days.

I love my warrior – have played nothing but so far and would like to continue on doing so.

A question for A-Net - About Legendary Items.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

That’s mainly what I want to do. The only problem here is that this is a decision that players might want to make in an informed state.
I’m sure there are people who might want the PVT stats. And it’s not really about the stats. It’s about the weapon’s status that’s being lost. It’s also about the fact that keeping players in the dark is never great. I’ve begun to see a trend with A-Net going more and more down this road of keeping the community in the dark.

Also – ascended weapons will be hard as hell to get. Why should someone who has worked for his legendary have to put in that extra work to get an ascended to transmute when he already has a legendary made. It makes no sense.

A question for A-Net - About Legendary Items.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harper.4173

Harper.4173

Recently I’ve been going all out to get my legendary finished. While doing so I’ve also been reading up on a subject of great interest to me – legendary weapon stats and transmuting.

There’s been a lot of back and forth over the forums about whether a Transmuted Legendary still retains its legendary status. So far the official claim is that it does. However some people have pointed out that vendors do not recognize the weapon rarity and neither does the log when you equip/unequip it.

One of the questions then is simple – If I transmute an exotic weapon’s stats onto my legendary does it remain lengedary? And I’m asking about the game’s code here not about the color and font of the text that gives me the weapon’s name. What I want to know is if the game’s internal database now stores it like an exotic or as a legendary.

The other question is about the upgrade Legendaries are supposed to receive once the ascended weapons come out. Will this upgrade include transmuted legendaries or just “vanilla” legendaries that come with the default ( and bad ) stats of PTV.

My questions i think come out of a reasonable amount of concern about these weapons. A legendary weapon is a serious commitment of both time and resources.
Considering that and the fact that Arena Net is considering them a key incentive to keep players in the game I think it’s about time we get some serious, straight forward answers.
I’ve seen the answers in the other threads that the staff game – " we’re working on it" ; " we’ll look into it " etc.
I know the staff at Arena Net are working hard but I don’t think giving us some proper answers that would put many to ease would be that hard. The questions I’ve asked I believe are not only answerable but also key to giving the players a better idea about what’s going on with an aspect of the game that is very near and dear to many of us.

Thanks if you took the time to read this.
I’d like to hear other opinions and I’d like to ask people to keep this bumped and share it around so that we might finally get an answer.

“Bringing back old content is not good for that games future even though how good it is”

I really don’t see how this can be a problem. I can see why they wouldn’t want to do this right off the bat – to not seem lazy but the game has been launched for a while now and I don’t see how this would affect them negatively.

Furthermore, it would really help to show that they’re a flexible company that takes into account what its player base wants especially in a case where this addition would not impact the game negatively in any way.

If anything putting these skins in the gem store would be a profitable endeavour for Anet and a great thing for the players. It’s WIN-WIN.

As far as the the Heritage armor – the heavy variant looks rather disappointing.

If they do bring them back I think they’d probably do it just like they did with the Primeval set. As skins in the shop. But that’s fine, just that they need to be in this game.

Apart from the vigil set ( which was also a compromise ) I’ve found NO other set that I completely like. The style used for heavy armor at least in this game is very odd to me.
In GW1 I was wondering which armor set I like the most and should get first.
In GW2 I find myself wondering which set I dislike the least…that’s not really fun if you know what I mean. They’ve done a wonderful job with the game, I just hope they give us this one thing back.

The fact that they added Primeval back into the game is a really cool thing but I think that I’m not the only one thinking that there were a LOT more cool looking armor sets in GW1 that could make a great comeback in this game.

So far I’ve played a warrior and I’ve really been disappointed because almost all heavy armor in this game is spiky or sharp or has these over-the-top things added to it.
I really wish the people at Anet would bring back some amazing skins like Elite Templar or Elite Platemail. Something simple and sturdy that makes a warrior look more like a knight than a berserker with an overgrown sword.

There were some cool armor designs for what would be considered Light / Medium armor as well.

So, Am I the only one here thinking about this ? What do you guys think about it?
