There was free instant travel in GW. Did that break the economy?
Oh come now. Not only did GW1 lack a player-driven trading post, it didn’t even have a persistent world. The idea of there being a difference between instantly traveling somewhere and walking there was silly because everything was instanced. There was no “missing” an event because you took too long to get there.
What do you mean “was stated that it didn’t get nerfed but it was”?
Why isn’t anyone mentioning Ascended rings for alts? Even if loot were nerfed to be nonexistent (it hasn’t, I fear you’re just having a spate of bad luck :[), you’d still be able to do that.
edit: Also, easy 20 slot boxes for alts- best thing about fractals in my personal opinion.
As to the other dungeons… they’re a better source of everything besides loot than basically anything else. Gold, XP, karma, and tokens of course for skins you can’t get anywhere else (or, if it suits you, more rares/exotics to pile onto your ever-growing stack to salvage for ectos).
You’re free to think that pursuing only the loot from the chests at World Events is the best use of your time, but if you really wanted to “maximize your gains” you’d do a mix of those and other content… which is exactly the way it should be.
And a final note… better than anything is just doing what you enjoy. I mean, it’s possible to run Fractals or a dungeon primarily for the gameplay experience rather than the reward. But I know that’s not the topic of this thread, so hopefully the raw info in the first three paragraphs will be a little helpful.
I love the implication that 5% of the GW2 populations, equaling thousands of people, will become animal abusers as a result of this daily.
These exist, by the way. At least one weapon and piece of jewelry per boss.
I’m working on a spreadsheet of them, but it’s currently very incomplete.
edit: I’ve have no problem with them making them a different color and calling the rarity “Unique” as in GW1.
My guild tried this Saturday night. We ran four consecutive guild bounty tier 1 runs. Not successful on any of them.
My thoughts: These guys are hard to find in fifteen minutes.
Errrrr…. :-/
You knew what zones to go to, right? Tier 1 is completely doable (and even easy :-x) with a group of 18. You should split up into two teams to track, make sure to ask on map chat if anyone has spotted them, and as soon as one gets taken down have everyone else pour in toward the other.
Tier 3 is when tracking all 15 in advance become a key part of the equation. But even that is a lot of fun. Having your guild spread out through fifteen zones across Tyria and keeping tabs on every possible bounty is a great feeling!
And let’s face it. 15 minutes to blindly find and kill 2 champions is pretty daunting.
How does fifteen minutes to kill 6 strike you? :P
It might help to look at it this way:
The armor could be White rarity, and still be “worth” exactly the same amount of gold.
If I understand correctly, this actually isn’t an issue at all. Three events allowed you to guest for a second chest after patch, but it was fixed, and now it’s one chest per day per event per character regardless of server.
Right? Can somebody help me out?
(edited by Hawkian.6580)
Active, this will probably sound a little silly, but you could always just buy the gems if you want to show your support, and just save them until there is something you really want in there.
Also, you seem like the type of chap that might get a kick out of dropping a Box o’ Fun by the Mystic Forge and watching what happens.
Not silly at all. It’s just that I have never seen anything really worth buying in the shop. Like someone above said, I don’t want a backpack, I want a great looking Axe of Eternal Doom combined with a Shield of Bloodshedding Epicness.
I’m a sucker for looks, and I like to scroll trough a shop and buy that one epic looking armor, or weapon glow. Get bored of it within 2 weeks, and buy something new.
About the Box o’ Fun, yes, yes I do this.
Well, theoretically, you could consider everything on the Trading Post something in the gem store. Find the ludicrously expensive item skin you want, work out how much it would costs in gems, and convert.
The problem with this of course is that some of the items out there are “worth” tons of cash if you do it this way. Like, a lot.
The thing is, I prefer it that way :-[ I’m all for adding more options, skins, and quirks to the gem shop, but I like that the coolest weapon and armor skins aren’t just purchasable outright for 500 gems. If someone has Volcanus, I like to know they put in the ludicrous amount of effort required to get it, or at least spent a paycheck on it.
This… doesn’t sound quite right, as of this week with a certain change in the patch there are people all over the place, specifically because of the exact desire you identified.
If the players are nerfed enough so that the shadow behemoth offers the same challenge as the shatterer and the elder dragon, the rewards offered by the shadow behemoth could be scaled up to what the elder dragon would offer to a max level player.
This is exactly what happens. What server are you on?
Crafted bags/boxes are never bound even after equip (give old ones to alts)
Why would you have to buy gems for gold to get anything for your alt…?
You also don’t have to do the Personal Story if you don’t want to.
You should do your dailies on your alt by the way. It gives you lots of exp.
I don’t know if someone has said this before, but here’s what I want:
Style inspection only.
You should be able to “inspect” the other player, but instead of showing their gear as it would in the player’s Hero pane, with the names and stats and all that, it would just show the names for the styles of their gear. So instead of seeing that they have exotic level 80 CoF armor that they’re used Transmutation Stones to make look like Acolyte armor with Cadeucus shoulders, you would just see that they have:
Acolyte Helm
Noble’s Mantle
Acolyte Chest
Acolyte Gloves
Acolyte Leggings
Acolyte BootsIt would give no indication of the armor’s strength or stats, but it would let you know what to look for if you wanted to duplicate that look. It would not have an elitism involved, but would be a helpful tool for style hunting.
It has been mentioned, but it’s worth repeating. This is a great idea.
Stat-wise inspection would be a huge step in the wrong direction, though.
Active, this will probably sound a little silly, but you could always just buy the gems if you want to show your support, and just save them until there is something you really want in there.
Also, you seem like the type of chap that might get a kick out of dropping a Box o’ Fun by the Mystic Forge and watching what happens.
I don’t understand, would you not have gotten more for getting the second target…?
Also just FYI they can drop outright as a reward upon completing a guild mission.
EDIT: To fully answer your question, you can only do one per week… per tier per mission type. You’ll be rolling in commendations after a few weeks if your guild has 40 players active enough to take on a bounty.
BTW, did you split into two teams, or what?
They’ll know.
This message is more than 15.
Goodness I hate this attitude. You’d think every single thing you dislike about the game is a punishment to you specifically? :| It’s like giving candy to a kid, then taking it away again. That’s cruel, yes, but not punishment. Punishment is getting grounded/sent to your room/getting your bum whipped/etc.
Not only is that punishment, that’s like one of the most bizarre and unnecessarily cruel forms of punishment. :P
I don’t think the whole “punished/rewarded alts” arguments hold much water on either side, but that was a crazy analogy.
The fact that the Consortium is setting up a “resort” for the refugees in Southsun Cove, operating with what seems quite frankly to be nefarious intent, is really all I needed to get hooked by the story. I’m also very curious as to what the nature of the partnership between the Dredge and Flame Legion is. Instinctually I’d say the Flame Legion is wearing the pants, but they’re also debasing their godlike view of themselves by equipping Dredge-made armor. Finally, it was interesting to learn that the invaders aren’t simply targeting the civilized refugees of the Shiverpeaks but also causing enough disturbance to drive the Grawl out as well. What are they after?
Yes, it has been a slow burn and you have to piece things together. I like it.
I simply don’t agree with your assessment of what the endgame “is,” nor the presupposition that it is only one thing, or that everyone’s endgame experience should necessarily be the same.
It’s 1 chest per character per day. It doesn’t matter if you’re in overflow or go to a different server.
Is this accurate? Or can you repeat on the same character on another server?
Yeah, it seems that changing the system to one chest per account, rather than per character, would solve this much more effectively, and without having to nerf a really useful system.
If you can guest to get another chest on the same character this suggestion would have absolutely the opposite effect of what this thread is complaining about (more guesting).
Oh really. Hmmmm. I wonder if ANet is going to nerf this by making the rewards account bound because of people doing this.
I just don’t see how making the rewards account bound would do that. Right now I have no incentive to guest for another chest because there are plenty of events and I have more than one character. The fact that people are guesting right now to do it anyway should tell you that removing the option to do it on the same world with multiple characters would encourage more guesting. I don’t see what I’m missing…
(edited by Hawkian.6580)
A fractal run will complete like 75% of this.
Of course there are valid complaints, but I think anyone really looking at this patch objectively should be able to admit the game is better than ever.
The Frozen Maw twenty times a day? :-[
http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/workflow.png
I’m legitimately sorry that your playstyle was impacted negatively by this patch. I’m sure I would feel the same in your shoes.
But this is much better for everyone.
I am stunned at the fact that another could possibly find it within themselves to complain that these new rewards are character bound.
“If you are going to limit chests to once a day, for god’s sake make it account bound. You’re telling me that as someone who prefers to play a single character, I am missing out on an obscene amount of rewards?”
I hope that you can take a step back and acknowledge how incomplete this assessment is.
1. The idea that this change means you’re “missing out” on loot over people who have multiple characters- what’s stopping you from having multiple characters? :O
2. It’s like you haven’t considered at all how much more time, in-game currency, effort and dedication it takes to level, gear, and maintain multiple characters. If this one aspect of the game now inadvertently favors people with alts, almost every other aspect of the game inadvertently discriminates against them (note: I don’t believe either of these things to be true).
3. The rewards are just freaking BETTER! Regardless of whether you have one character or six, the colors you see when you press F on the world chests are more favorable than before!
4. The fact that it’s character-based means that more total loot will be generated. This is an orchestrated step to manipulate the economy. More rares, available for less silver, and a steady decline in the price of ectos are already being realized in less than 48 hours.
5. If the “I only have one character and my rewards are shot because of the daily reset” is the only thing bothering you, simply do ALL the events in the timeframe it would have taken you to repeat a single event 4 times prior to this change. You’ll wind up with more loot than before anyway and you won’t have done the same exact thing four times.
6. Any change that favors individuals who have multiple characters encourages more players to give attention to multiple characters. This has the net effect of more players in the “leveling zones” (non-60-to-80 content) and more experienced players in areas where newbies can use tips and assistance.
It’s a great change, it benefits everyone (except RPers on Tarnished Coast :’().
Every JP chest I open gives me 10 exotic fun’s.
Chaos Crystal Caverns, Spekk’s Lab and Stepping Stones each game me an Ascended fun upon beating them
It is indeed a masterstroke how you can play to whatever extent you like, as often as you like, with as many breaks as you like of whatever length you’d like.
In a game with a subscription, if you find that you aren’t enjoying yourself you basically feel compelled to keep playing to get your money’s worth and trying to find a way to enjoy it in the process.
In this game if you find that you aren’t enjoying yourself you can just stop playing for however long you like. Come back in a week or a month or a year. Tyria will welcome you with open arms.
I am not sure what to make of this. I bought mine ages ago. It wasn’t possible to overbuy then. To buy a slot you have to click on the lock (on the bags and bank). When the limit is reached, no more locks appear.
What is the system now?
The system is the same. When I bought my last bank slot, the little lock icon on the bottom right disappeared. (edit: meant to say I just did this about an hour ago)
I have no idea what Anet is talking about when they say “don’t over buy”.
It’s because for the sale you can buy them right from the Gem Shop.
Previously you had to click on the lock icon on your inventory or bank tab to buy slots so it was an in-game coded thing with checks.
What you can do now is buy them on the gem store, which is a website embedded into the game without hooks into the game client so they may not (currently) have the ability to code the checks and balances for the gem store. This was an oversight which should be fixed as soon as possible.
This is accurate. It’s a coding flaw, but since they have a clear track record of refunding people who did buy over the limit, despite the explicit warning, it’s basically just a case of extra work for themselves to counteract carelessness rather than anything remotely close to a big deal.
This is typically an exploit from Arenanet to get free gems.
An “exploit?” Hahaha…
I imagine the thought process is that there are now three ways to get rings, two of which involve fractals and one that doesn’t, whereas there’s only one way to get amulets. That way being the same as the third way to get rings, the amulets costs less.
A few weeks ago I had a guy accidentally send me about 5 unidentified dyes and a few other identified. I returned to sender and told him he sent them to the wrong person and he sent them right back and said “It’s ok, enjoy.”
I think iv’e easily run in to more “good” players than “bad” players.
That’s delightful
At level 80, you really can completely obliterate mobs in lower-leveled zones. You have your trait points, your traits, runes/sigils, and your chosen skill loadout, and personal gameplay skill. It’s exactly like you claim you want it to be. :-/ They are no threat unless you completely stop paying attention to the game… in which case you’re no longer paying attention to the game.
This complaint doesn’t seem based in the actual mechanics, or something else is at play besides the downleveling.
They’re not soulbound. They’re account bound.
You’ll want to bear in mind that you earn karma with every event you mentioned, that you can use www.gw2lfg.com to find appropriate Arah groups, that you can guest to a more populous server at any time if you’d prefer to do the events with more people, and that at the least, Grenth, the Eye of Zhaitan and every Champion in the game can be killed by groups of as few as 3 people; challenging is exactly the right word for attempting it.
Cry of frustration is right- you sound like maybe you’re a little burnt out. Maybe try the above advice and just take a break for a while.
I believe the drop chance increases with each tier, but not within each tier (except 20 versus 22?)
Conditions ignore armor, protection, and even pure invulnerability. Having 50%+ crit with conditions critting once every two ticks would be outrageously overpowered.
Fractal skins don’t start dropping until tier 3…
For open world adventuring I rely on Rune of the Centaur for my Mesmer; they definitely lack reliable movement speed increases.
I very much doubt that guild missions will be limited to Southsun Cove only. I imagine he singled it out in the sense that he wants you to know there will now be some stuff to do in Southsun Cove.
Seeing as how there are still way more important things that needs to be fixed which have been on the forum since the game launched, for example hit box issues and broken class skills…I wouldn’t hold your breath.
It seems the standard answer is “yes, we are aware there are issues and we are working on fixing them”, this is invariably followed by some new additions to the cash shop or an amazing new event that either simply doesnt work or fails to deliver anything really meaningful to the gaming experience (like Lost Shores for example). Seeing as this stuff keeps being churned out, then people are clearly working…they just might not be working on the stuff we would like them to.
But I am looking forward to part 2 of Frost and Flame, now we have fixed all those signposts theres going to be a lot of refugees arriving and I think we are going to have to feed them. Perhaps we’ll be killing horses and making them burgers? Or making them a nice tent out of 300 rabbit furs?
With the news that at least all three AC bosses have been completely rebuilt, and included in the patch in 6 days, do you stand by all of this?
Man that was a lot of vitriol on teleports and stealth. I mean no offense, but it sounds a whole lot like you are equating being unable to counter those mechanics personally with them being “broken.” Just as an FYI, causing burning will reveal a stealthed player’s location to you.
I also contend that you’re flatly wrong about the Trinity still existing in Guild Wars 2 to any extent. The truth is that if a team attempts to adhere to the principles of the trinity you are describing the entire team will suffer for it. Essentially you’re locking yourself into a concept which the game no longer rewards, and then lamenting how little you’re rewarded for it. The fact that you say “it’s still there, but the effectiveness of each role has been lessened” illustrates this misunderstanding. There is no front-line, there is no mid-line, there is no back-line. Everyone should be constantly moving and positioning. Everyone should be keeping themselves alive. Everyone should be helping other players, everyone should be doing damage. On top of this diffusion of responsibility, you can also specialize in one area (Damage, Support, Control) or balance your character between the three.
It seems like you should try completing a few instances with some unusual teams, like 2 necro, 2 engineers and a thief, or a guardian, two mesmers, an elementalist and a ranger. Hell, the most common run in the game right now favors a team composed of two classes (4 warriors, 1 mes), how can that represent a trinity? All of the above are completely viable. There’s a lot more synergy between classes than you may realize.
It depends if “gimping yourself” is equivalent in your mind to “not completing content as rapidly as humanly possible.” There are tons of viable stat combos and especially complementary builds between classes that can be a blast to play.
You can still get +5 AR by slotting in a simple versatile infusion to any of the slots or a corresponding offensive or defensive infusion. So the AR cap has still been raised. Just by +5 and not +10.
If think there are a lot of people who never played GW1.
You are right. The game was not popular and filled little more than a niche role in the MMO community. So yes, few have played GW1. However, Anet was supposed to be trying to compete with WoW. You do not compete with WoW by having an end game that turns the player base into teenage girls looking for the perfect outfit.
You may not be aware of it, but Guild War 1 was by far the most successful MMO besides WoW… and it wasn’t even actually an MMO.
I guess the people who log in once every few days don’t care about ascended items, and are happy with their exotics.
I wouldn’t say that.
I would say: people who log in once every few days realize that ascended items were not made for them, and they will probably never get them. Kind of like legendaries: there’s just no point.
Of course it’d be nice and they’d love to have them: but they’re end-game grindy content that takes months of grind to achieve. People who don’t log in as often probably aren’t interested in that aspect of them.
Nor should they be. This isn’t the kind of game where any individual piece of content will require making up the difference in stats.
Although it is a minor issue, the sarcasm/condescending responses in this thread are out of hand. Good job Guild Wars community! Always impressing!
Anyway, yeah the square-shaped maps do seem kind of unnatural and weird, especially viewed from the world map. It doesn’t really leave a whole lot of mystery when exploring since you know exactly where the maps will end. There were quite a few oddly shaped maps in the first game and it was particuarly neat coming across random zones that were far off from the main path the game took you through. Now all the zones are clearly labeled on the map and easy to guess how far they’ll take you. Though I honestly believe the maps are this way due to making map completion less of a P.I.T.A. Remember how rediculous cartography was in the first game to the point that most used a mod to help them out?
Just so you know…
There are named areas on the map you can get 100% world completion without ever seeing.
You are not going to craft the weapon with those professions at all. The professions are needed for other aspects of the overall process known as Gifts, which themselves are only a fraction of the recipe needed. To actually create your legendary you’ll be using the mystic forge.
Making a legendary is a lot more complex and time-consuming than you may be aware. They are a far cry from exotics in terms of difficulty to acquire. For starters, the most crucial component of crafting a legendary is acquiring what is called a precursor- an exotic weapon used as a base for the legendary. You can only obtain this precursor (for the moment) as a random, very low % drop, or by buying it on the TP (they are all very expensive).
Again, just so you understand, legendaries are not better than exotics. The only reason to pursue one is the aesthetics.
You can have more than 2 crafting professions on a character; you can just only have two active at a time (your progress is not lost).
Inspect is not at all a good idea, unless you mean merely to see what skins someone is wearing.
That would be Hrouda I believe, and he wants you to break your backs against Arah like waves upon jagged rocks.
They aren’t actually square, though- I mean, the perimeter of every zone has a squiggly-shaped border of mountains or whatever that you usually can’t permeate. You can’t actually access the full rectangular area of the border shown on the map… It’s very rare that you can ever touch the actual “edge” of a zone lengthwise or heightwise. In other words, the zones themselves aren’t square, they’re just represented as squares on the map.
