Idk what the big deal is. This is a completely serious post. This event has been the fastest completed living story yet. The others at least took me about a week to get all the way through while this one was filled with simple objectives that could be grinded out and completely finished in a couple days. i even took 1 day off, so technically it only took me 2. Am i the only one, ASIDE from all the QQ about it being hard, that has a problem with how short lived this content truly is?

3 days into Queen’s Jubilee and I already have both meta achieves for Queen’s Jubilee and Queen’s Gauntlet, only missing 1 achievement, that being Light up the Darkness, which i am saving to do alongside a friend who is on vacation anyways. I feel like I have pretty much done all there is for this event and i still have almost 2 more weeks until it’s over… =/

and another funny thing is that so much skills just dont work. skills like taking no damage or pain inverter and much more….

The take no damage, or even invul skills have zero effect on scripted instakills such as the fire ring or the adds on last that much is correct… But that is also understandable really… Personally, I just hate people portraying gimmick fights, as skill, when they’re actually just relying on some specific mechanics… Look at Alpha as an example… That’s a much better example of difficult fights, that isnt just relying on some specific gimmick… Not saying Alpha is all that hard, but it’s a fight where the difficulty really is in the hands of the player and not just purely random…

I think you have a poor understanding of the fight mechanics… i did it literally without dodging at all…. all you have to do is strafe left and right while you are in the circle and shoot him. done. gg.

How to reliably land C&D?

What is the best strategy to reliably land it (in sPvP)?

Somehow the way I’m using it, this thing seems to be dodged a lot if not an out right miss. Not to mention the recent spats of lags makes landing one a total PITA.

I usually set it up with HS, and then CnD, but between the aftercast and lag, I end up not getting a clean hit. Is there a bettter tactic for successfully landing one – preferably something that doesn’t involve steal because the cool down on that is a tad excessive and there’re really better traits to take than 30% faster steal.

At 6 init, it’s really hard to afford a miss.

You just made a post that was saying HS spam is overpowered, and now you post this…But I’ll bite anyways.

Honestly, the best way to learn to land CnD is to learn its range and learn when to pre-cast it while running up to someone for the best results in my experience.

Some more obvious tips:

1. Don’t keyboard turn
2. Don’t click your skills.
3. Go into a pve setting so that you can learn the range of CnD.

It’s not overpowered in a way that it needs a straight up nerf. It’s more correct to say HS is decent rewarding skill that a monkey can use. It needs to be a great skill, that requires a human to use.

That out of the way, why running to someone isn’t a great idea:

1) The caster types, will usually run away from you. Mesmers will nuke you to death in the process and eles will kite you until you say uncle…

2) Warriors will daze and wipe the floor with your corpse – even if manage to land C&D.

3) Rangers will push you back and you start from square 1 while sprouting 3 feathers every second.

4) Engineers will gladly let you get to them only to blast you away and set you on fire.

5) Necro… will o well, I guess Necros will stand there so you can safely land C&D on them if not 1 of their minions.

Bottom line, running up to anyone in thief armor and health tends to be… rather unhealthy shall we say.

If you think I implied to just “walk up and CnD”, then I don’t know what to say. I use CnD very well to weave in and out of stealth, creating plenty of disorientation, and throwing opponents off guard in WvW and sPvP. I do agree, it can be unreliable with all the counters such as blocks and dodges, but that is part of learning how to fight other classes. You need to learn when to use certain skills in certain situations. That is the great thing about thieves, they are pretty adaptable to different situations if you understand the class and it’s mechanics.

Of course the most reliable way is to use a shadowstep while precasting CnD, but if you are like me and stingy with cooldowns, then learning how to use it in melee range can be an amazing alternative.

I gave you an option to learn, which works for me often enough to be confident with it’s use, and if you refuse the advice, that’s cool.

This guy is pretty much right. the trick is to learn the range and when you need to pre-cast.

I went 0/30/0/30/10 with full valkyrie gear (Power/Vitality/Crit damage) and used p/p and s/p. p/p for the first kill on one of the ranged enemies with thieves guild and then stacked the others up to burn them down using pistol whip.

One suggestion i can make is using Bowls of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew. Gives increased endurance regen and can really help out during Liadri.

Lol i had the same experience on Liadiri, glad i did though. I ended up making a really unique build with traits i normally would have never used. i.e using initiative heals you. But aside from gauntlet i have to say this patch has added the most substantial in-game features of any other and goes on the top of my favorites list.

Seriously, i love this patch. Not only me, but returning friends who thought they were done with gw2 are extremely impressed with what you guys did with this one. Thanks so much for all of this great new content. the boss battles are challenging and very fun, the events down below are a little old-school MMO farmy, but i don’t mind, kind of refreshing these days.

Aside from The event itself the added features are AMAZING!

The account wallet…OH MY GEE. SO GOOD. The champ rewards are also amazing, before this patch other than lvling alts i never cared about killing champs, now i find myself gathering guild members to go out of our way to hunt these suckers down for some sweet weapon skins.

The dungeon rewards are also very nice, actually encouraging me to finish up Dungeon Master.

And then the solo qeue PvP. yeeeeeeeeessss. finally, it is a great addition and synergizes well with grinding out rank points for the new perma finishers which by the way are so fun to use in wub v wub.

All in all, i love it. great patch Anet, in my opinion the best content patch yet, keep it up! =D

I already got my Liadri mini. It really isn’t that hard, just change your build accordingly.

Yeah, well, acrobatics makes it really easy with withdraw on 15 sec cd and 10 secs of vigor plus your shortbow evade spam.

You’ve got 3 base dodges from feline grace, then the extra dodge from vigor, and 3-4 more dodges available from shortbow or if you want to play it risky you can use pistolwhip instead to tank with invulnerability the visions.

Oh sorry, i should also mention my guildies also got their minis as Ele, Warr, and Necro.

I also experienced this, and I got it in tPvP of all places. This was horrible, now not only do i have to wait for the respawn timer, but i also must wait for this long load time while team fights continue. this is really starting to effect our play and needs to be fixed ASAP.

Just now trying a lifesteal build in pvp for possible tournament use, which now that i see these bugs makes me realizze this will be impossible. This is really sad. if working properly this could have been really fun for me to use. unfortunately at the beginning of each match and every time i die and respawn the bug that causes the 4th set bonus to stop proccing, occurs.

We still have low damage.
We still have poor sustain (can be easilly kited/killed.)
We are still one of the hardest classes to play.

This is lulzy coming from the highest damage, and one of the highest sustain class. It’s also the class that is widely considered to be ez-mode and faceroll.

Gaurdians/Rangers/Engineers/Thieves all have higher sustain.

Rangers have higher sustained damage, Guardians have higher Sustained Damage, Thieves have higher burst damage.

Please go back to your own forums.

Since when do thieves have higher sustain? If they’re in stealth they can’t do anything except regen health which is still lower than healing signet PASSIVE…

Warrior is widely regarded to do the most DPS, a lot more than ranger and guardian for sure. As far as burst DPS, warrior wins with hundred blades. Nothing can touch that.

0/0/30/0/0 Shadow Arts is an amazing tree, stealth means you can still be hurt but if you know your class and others you can avoid damage easilly.

Hundred Blades is the easiest attack to avoid in the entire game to any class.

If your dieing to it, AS A THIEF.. then I suggest getting a new pair of hands. The counter to hundred blades is moving out of the way, with a class that has multiple teleports and ways to escape this is easy. I’ve never died to 100b on my thief, even with the prenerf bullsrush+quickness+100b combo, it is SO easy to see it coming.

A guardian has Whirling Wrath, which is a hard to avoid attack unlike hundred blades because you can move and combo with it to pull foes to you, you can also use it to cleanse conditions as well (things that would prevent it from hurting your target.) Whirling Wrath is better in every way because it has MOBILITY.

Stop looking at big numbers, in PVP its mobility that matters.

Not all thieves have 30 in shadow arts though. I know I don’t. And you’re still forgetting that while in stealth thieves don’t do damage. Those that stay in stealth and never come out are just trolling. When they come out to actually do some damage, they got no more sustain!

Now let’s see, skull crack can be used every 7.5 seconds and most thieves only carry 1 stunbreak, 2 at max. Eventually you’ll be stunned then killed. How to dodge when stunned?

Besides it is well know that warrior has the highest mobility nowadays especially with sword/warhorn and greatsword. Literally 3000 range on a fairly short cooldown.

Joking? my thief craps on warrior mobility. Shadow trap. done deal. Withdraw. Done deal. Infiltrator’s/Steal. done. Plus sustain is heavy in SA. refuge when you are low and you basically have a 2nd heal. plus the passive heal benefit from stealthing. not to mention the condi removal gain from stealth is pretty much a must have. if you are losing to warriors as a thief, no way around it bro, you kinda suck.

Solid Warrior Builds

I have a friend who is pretty casual with GW2. He would play more if not for his experience with his main, which is a Warrior. He has a hard time in PvE content as far as feeling useful in a fight.

He wants to be able to jump into the fray, deal decent damage, be helpful to the team, without getting wrecked by the mobs.

Personally i don;t play warrior outside of CoF farms and don’t have the experience to help him build-wise.

Would any experienced warriors be kind enough to post a build that would help him in these aspects? preferably one that has been tested in higher end fracs and proves to work well?

The main problem with this thread is everyone keeps trying to compare the skills of other professions with each other. You cannot do that. that is not how this works, they are all extremely different by design and are meant to be played that way. you cannot every hope to make a comparison between Warrior skill X and Thief skill Y, it is just stupid and counter-intuitive.

I Don’t even think the necro damage is the problem. It is the AoE spam. the fact that they can constantly put down full dps on an entire point for extended periods of time with consistent chill and weakness. I think the AoE radius or cooldowns need to be toned down. maybe even change some of the marks completely so that you can’t toss on every condi in the game through a single AoE spam.

Honestly the only way this would be ok is if Shield Block and other defensive skills had a pre-cast, or visible animation BEFORE the blocks are applied. Just as you ask for counter play so would I. Right now the way block stances work, there is no reaction time on my end to correct a backstab going into a warrior that popped shield block at the same time. I would be ok with this change if there was a visible animation leading up to the actual block that was possibly even interruptible.

I don’t think I’ve left IoJ’s BL once so far this matchup

I’m sure there are some where this is the case, but the giant GoM zergball rolls through our 3rd of EB like clockwork, and once we manage to get it back, here they come again…..chugga chugga chugga. We can stop 10-20 if we have the people, but the 40-60 just steamroll everything. They are also very well timed, because I often see them show up before we can complete upgrades. Just lucky timing??? I think not.

And yes, these steamrollings are a BIG reason why I see people leave. They get rolled, and rolled, and rolled again, say “kitten it, I’ve had enough of this kitten!” in chat, and they’re done.

If we could push a magic button and move to T8 (or start a new T9!!!!), we’d do it. AR hasn’t been in a match since…..hell, I can’t remember when, maybe Jan/Feb, where we haven’t had the Outnumbered buff most of the match. We went 3 months against Ebay…..a full 13 weeks….with this type of uneven pairing. The new rating system is supposed to “fix” it so that doesn’t happen on a regular basis, but here we are what….4 weeks, 5 weeks…..I can’t remember…..into it and thanks to the fair weathers finally having enough and bolting, here we sit with yet another giant zergball server who, not satisfied with just taking all of our EB, camps our spawn!!!! Sorry, that’s not a server that want’s “fair/even” fights (though I do realize there are members of GoM that truly DO want even fights, the server as a whole……well, actions speak for themselves).

What I find ironic in this is Anet. They claim they want to even up matches so the existing player base doesn’t leave (leave the server, leave WvW, or leave GW2 entirely), and attract new players to WvW, yet they won’t even honor a petition to drop us to T8 to prevent the very population loss that they profess to want to prevent. Sigh……

I wouldn’t say all of GoM is like the Eternal PuGs they have. Consistently putting bad players on the field. For instance, being outnumbered in Eternal, the GoM commander running the karma train there decides to take AR’s corner of the map. It’s fine, we have seen it before(god help them if they actually meet a tier with even numbers though). So 3 people retake Veloka and start to treb the keep, because, well why not. GoM recaps Veloka while we are in the tower. We continue to treb the keep from a now GoM tower. Get the outer to under 50% before anyone walks into the tower to see whats up(poor warrior that came in, sorry man, you aren’t going to beat me with that set up) then of course GoM sends more people, mind you, into a tower they own, to take out the treb. That is the GoM that is in Eternal. Poor ability, poor map awareness, sadly high ranks due to WxP farming with no ability to do anything but press 1 and cry for help when they meet up with a single player.
While your non Eternal players may very much want to have good even fights, your Eternal crew is a sad mix of some of the worst of GW2. Trust me after I spike someone in a group 5 v 1 while you have a guard as well, you don’t need to /laugh unless it is at your utter inability to handle combat outside a zerg. And it’s not all your players, just a vast majority of them in Eternal. I feel for you guys when you come up against even numbers in the future, 90% of your Eternal Players are going to bail on you.

We had less than a dozen people on the map when your Eternal commander decided to take AR’s third @ 11am server on a Monday. I’m sure he feels like accomplished something. He did, he taught them doors who was boss.

Pretty lame post. Implying we have not had an even match-ups and come out on top before. We can go toe to toe with DH, and any other server of our size, and we have proven that in the past. Sorry we are so much bigger than you, but it really is unfair to call out an entire server like that because you are a little sore in the rear from being pushed around by numbers.

I really like the new meta reward for the BotFW achievements. Will we be seeing more interactions with our home instance like this in the future? Could this possibly be the first baby steps towards any type of actual player housing? I’m really interested to see if Anet will be developing the home instance outside of the personal story even more like this. i think it would add some more depth and overall enjoyment to the entire game experience.

How about providing Stability Power-Ups on the map that become available to channel-grab for the team?

That and less glass flooring.

Or a 2-3 sec stability buff upon first entering the cannon room. Probably have that on a 60 sec CD too to avoid going in and out for perma stability would be a good idea too.

I’ll try and state my observations without a wall of text.

The glass floor is a death without much/any counter play. Interactive environments are a great idea but the glass in its current implementation promotes abusing mechanics rather than promoting skill play (I define skill plays as those that occur with both combatants having a fair shake at attacking and reacting). I am all for different maps promoting different builds but any map that promotes class stacking or abuse of skill mechanics is deplorable in a PvP enviroment.

If the current glass mechanic stays, I would prefer it not to be an instant death. If anything, falling through should make you start back at spawn with no rez timer (or you could fight the sandworms for survival… something less punishing is what im advocating).

I agree the glass could be fixed. i really like the thrown back to spawn idea.

one of the biggest complaints i see here is “it forces people into a specific setup”.

am i the only one that thinks this is an ideal scenario? each map forcing you to make use of a different setup and strategy to make the best of it is how maps should be.

of course, there’s the issue of “well guardians are excellent at CC and counter CC” and other complaints regarding “this class is better for this map”. honestly? CC isn’t everything, and you only need one well timed use of it anyway, the rest is bonus. you can still win this map without using CC for everything.

You can win this map without CC? It’s like saying that you can win Kyhlo without Treb. If the enemy isn’t using it, sure. But they will.

I win this map without CC. i only bring tripwire. which i always bring on any map anyways.

What would help:

Make the backside of the sidepoints accessible with the jumping pad there. You can jump on level higher, but you can’t get on the highest one.
The one with the glass platform on it.

This way you can come from behind if the other team has someone on it. As a necro I just stand on far point, on the edge of that glass platform and can fearlock people coming inside the node.

Don’t know, if people will know what I mean. Might need to take a screenshot.

My Thief has no CCs and Scorpion Wire doesn’t pull people onto glass in the cannon room.

But that’s besides the point. Skyhammer just isn’t fun. First, it greatly favors not only certain specs, but certain classes, mainly Engies and Necros. If you don’t have them in your team and your enemy does, it’s game over.

And another dozen of reasons…

The map would be fine as a hotjoin map. I’d just skip it and move my merry way. Those who find it fun can go play it there, but please, at least let tPvP maps be about actual fighting other players.

“fighting other players” What are you fighting bots? no matter how it is done you are still fighting other players. every CC is avoidable. That all takes into account your skill in determining what your opponent is using and staying in position. ESPECIALLY as a thief you should have zero issues with this. and even when you do get out of position your accessibility to blind will pretty much halt most incoming launches.

It will halt some, but not all. Especially considering that the blind is a small AoE.

Necromancers simply put down wells and marks and then spam fear. A Thief can’t counter that, what you need to do is move out of the melee range and have Stab, otherwise you un-hug the door and get free-feared.

And getting hit by all those pre-set marks at the door hurt x_x.

use the jump pads and drop down on the point instead?

this is pvp people, not pve raiding. there is no tank n spank strategy to conquest.

use strategy, critical thinking, spatial awareness, and personal skill to win.

stop running into marks if you know they will be there in the hopes that you might bulldoze through them.

why aren’t people more willing and flexible to respec week by week for the map in rotation to increase their command of their professions?

The simple answer is: Because they aren’t as “skilled” as they think they are, and using a different build beyond the few builds they have mastered scares them. Some can’t even try another build because they don’t know how to, outside of copying someone elses and maybe tweaking it a bit at most. Alot of players just want to run in and kill things with as little critical thinking as possible. Theory-crafting to them is just a hassle better left out of the equation.

You are jumping the gun here. I’ve been in this debate for awhile but I literally have not changed my build and do too well on this map. So well that it’s not fair for other classes. I’ve crafted so many things on all professions including using some copy&paste builds to see how they fair. It’s not about trying new things, it’s about accepting the fact that this map is imbalanced. How can you be competitive on an imbalanced map?—well the answer to that is forcing other players to play what is OP on that map. I’m glad a lot of people enjoy this type of ‘game feature’ but it’s seriously not in any way shape or form a good map for tpvp.

I’m not jumping the gun, mate. Listen you keep bringing up skyhammer. I’m not even talking about Skyhammer. i am just responding to the OP’s question as to why IN GENERAL the pvp player base has an issue with changing up builds and composition for certain situations. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding.

@OP the issue is that you tried 8v8 hotjoin which is just bad. no other way to put it, hotjoin sucks. Tournaments are SOOOOOO much fun though. I have about 1k hours put into wvw as well and for the past 3 months i have been non-stop pvping.

Wow this turned into a great thread. IMO still i think making the cannon dodge-able would be a huge help to the map. it would reduce the pressure in the cannon room, which seems to be where alot of players have an issue, and it would cause players to choose between using endurance to avoid the cannon or using endurance to avoid the next possible CC. Aside from that i have wanted Templates since Day 1 and i think it would be fantastic if we saw that.

it’s sad how people rather QQ than simply adapting their build (which is prob meta and copied off sombody else) to be more effective on the new map, everyone class has CC’s and it shouldn’t be too hard to understand not to fight by edges.

Skyhammer is amazing for bringing a different and fresh new playstyle which allows for creativity

I like theorycrafting to fight for all ocassions. I don’t like having to complete drop any non-cc builds for a map that occurs once every 4 rotations. I can adapt, sure, but forcing everyone to pick up styles that others prefer isn’t the best way to go. Same copy&paste method because there are only a certain amount of ccs you can bring (thieves scorpion wire, necro spectral wall or any fear really, guard hammer&shield&spiritweapon, engi big ole bomb, rifle, battering ram, mine, etc). It’s not that hard to figure out. It’s just a matter of landing it. It doesn’t promote any sort of personal style just an ‘elitist cc’ build and possibly a paranoid positioning behavior. I am not saying this map is bad for general pvp, but it’s shouldn’t be considered competitive in my opinion.

It’s not forcing you too. I still run the same build that i always run. i don’t even bring scorp wire, screw that lame skill. The only thing that has changed is my playstyle for the map.
