Yeah, I couldn’t understand a slight nerf, but to almost double the cost of the ability seems a little excessive and makes it very difficult to handle some engagements when your main initiation/gap closer cripples your ability to follow up with anything else.

How to make WvW exciting again?

So basically I’m bored with WvW, the only part of GW2 I actually enjoy…

It’s either I join a zerg and PvD my way around the map, occasionally wiping or getting wiped depending on who has that extra 20 players in the zerg or I roam around chasing people who refuse to fight for over an hour before boredom sets in knowing the best fight was a 1v6 while you were capping your 100th sentry looking for someone… (OCX player)

I want to know, what have people done to bring excitement back to the game for themselves?

Have you got a game you play internally while in WvW? (Eg: 2 people hold the bridge of justice between red keep and mendons)
Or do you roll a trap ranger and pretend to be afk for that greedy thief eyeing you off?

Particle Effects in Stealth

I’m not sure it’s something that can be fixed easily – I think since particle effects are bound to their weapons and armor, there isn’t exactly an on-off switch for the effects. Since the invisibility seems to be based on the character silhouette, it takes the areas of particle effects into consideration.

I’m sure I didn’t use the proper terminology for this issue, but its my own speculation on the matter. IMO, ANet would only bother fixing particle effects if it was related to their beloved legendary weapons as to avoid legitimate effort in game design. It can be annoying yes, but hang in there! Wear your transparent power boxes with pride.

It should quite simply be a simple conditional flag for any effects.

If stealth = true, then rendering = disabled.

Shouldn’t be difficult. Time consuming? Maybe. You’d have to edit each relevant model and/or texture, as well as add the scripted programming functionality behind it.

The issue is that it has already looked great, and been fixed in the past. This recent patch has reverted it for whatever reason, so I doubt it would take much work considering they have already done it before.

Particle Effects in Stealth

I remember how excited I was when stealth was patched awhile back to make it look all sleek and sexy looking, where you could see your backpiece and weapons instead of some horrid clear jello particle blob flying around.

Well, it seems that the feature pack has brought back the jello monster and it’s just not pretty to look at. I understand this is a purely cosmetic feature, but it was really nice when it was fixed and a lot of my friends as well as myself would love to see this fixed again.

I’m in the same position OP. I have put sooooo mahy hours into this game. I was borderline “fanboy” about gw2 for awhile. But lately the whole experience has been feeling so stale. Nothing is changing in any meaningful way. I kept telling myself to give them time to implement…but it is going on 2 years now and group play for most dungeons (imo) is still in shambles.

Broken Sigil of Air

So I decided to post this issue here since it is Thief specific. When Sigil of Air is equipped and you proc it on a Cloak and Dagger there is a chance that the sigil of air will proc late after the hit and reveal you. It’s happened to me quite a few times and it is incredibly frustrating as this can mean the difference between life and death.

So…. usually when I’m in qeue I go beat on the AI bots in hotm. The engineer,mesmer, etc. Today I fought them and got 1 shot by the engineer. 13.4k jump shot. This has never happened before.

I called in some guildies with varying degrees of armor scaling up into the 3ks. They all took brutal amounts of damage from the AI as well. I figure this isa bug because pre-patch this was not a thing.

They all hit incredibly hard. like, ridiculously broken. I can’t imagine if a new player wandered over to try and practice with these because they would get absolutely wrecked.

It’s already been said that the reason they made these changes, was because they were removing some of the gold sinks from the game (Repairs, and retraiting.) So to balance out the loss of 2 goldsinks they had to slighlty reduce gold income in some aspect of the game.

It’s really not that hard to understand.

So… I thought the change was just going to be a reduction on the condi clear. Which Is understandable.

However why is it losing even further utility on the Boon gain? The entire reason I had the rune set was for the 5 sec of stability and the Aegis.

Now instead of being able to pop it in a time when I need the stability for a getaway or to chase through a static wall, I get….nothing.

It’s in my honest opinion a really horrible decision to take a rune set that only works well with certain builds in certain situations and completely tear the usefulness out of it. I just don’t see the point in nerfing a niche set to such extremes.

Please someone tell me this is some typo and it will still give boons on use T.T

Otherwise could Anet consider not completely nerfing this set into the stone age?

Why is there still no dueling?

So once again, I’ll ask, why is there no dueling yet in the open world?

Every time this is asked all I can see is a 12 year old player waiting on a Thief/Mesmer thinking it takes skill to stealth around on random mobs while waiting for the “Opponent” to be on cool down with all of their skill.

Dueling in this game would be a joke due to the game mechanics. It is why this question has been laughed off the forum since release of this game. You would only ever see horrible stealth Thieves and Mesmer (sadly thinking it is their skill carrying the fight instead of the horrendous stealth mechanic in this game).

I think you don’t really know what everyone else is talking about here. I think you are thinking that dueling = ganking. A dual is a mutual fight accepted between 2 players.

Not to mention that it takes some degree of skill to use stealth correctly. If someone wins by simply spamming stealth, then it just means their opponent is even worse for not countering it.

And yeah, no one here is suggesing open world pvp where you can just run up to someone and kill them without them ever accepting it.

Lyssa Runes question

It is honestly the best rune set for power Thieves imo. I have used full divinity, Travelers, and Eagle in the past, but Lyssa is by far the best set that I have used. Getting 10s of vigor or protection on withdraw is great, and having a full condi clear on a 45 sec cd as well as having access to stability for 5s is a major boon to any Thief build.

New Grandmaster Trait stinkers

Stone Heart will be a very strong GM trait. You don’t have to camp earth for it to be effective.

For example: Fighting a warrior, you get bulls charged, and he is about to lay down the 100b hurt on you. You swap to earth attunement while you are laid out on the ground and make his entire attack nearly useless.

The same can be said for most big spikes. If you get into a tight spot against a big burst build Stone Heart is your get out of jail free card.

I don’t understand how you don’t see the merit in this.

I think that the ability to duel in the open world would be a HUGE QoL improvement. I can’t even begin to mention how many times me and my guildies have wished for this.

It’s not the same to go to Heart of the Mists to duel. Our builds don’t work the same there as they do in the “PvE” world due to the differences in stats.

I think this would be a lot of fun and a lot of duelers would be incredibly appreciative of this.

I spend 80% of my GW2 time dueling around in Obsidian Sanctum and it is really enjoyable. However, it can easily get trolled and the communication between the duelers doesn’t come around as easy considering we are on enemy team.
And of course there is the want for dueling friends from my own server with our current WvW setups.

Just think about it Anet. Pretty please =)

@Heizero: I would like to argue on behalf of the Kaineng WvW thieves. There may be about 10 of us, but we are all very skilled. Some more than others, but we are all at least competent.
@OP: healing in stealth does not give an extreme amount of healing. Your numbers are far off, someone else posted the right ones on a typical thief build (10/30/30/0/0). Unless you calculated that while using healing power gear/traits, which almost no thief does. I don’t run with that trait all of the time, and can say it makes a marginal impact if the player is skilled enough to play thief properly. Stealth does not make you invincible. Their a are sti susceptible to attack and heavy damage. Stealth is primarily a tool for confusing the enemy. If a thief resets the fight with stealth, 1. You just won the fight. 2. You go into OOC regen, so them healing has no significance.

(Experience: played since beta; Thief, Warrior, Guardian, Engi, Nerco)

Arguing what? I never said other servers don’t have good thieves. It’s just that the current T2 matchup has the largest concentration of extremely skilled thieves, coming from all 3 servers of the matchup. You can’t get higher quality on any other tier right now. Sorry if you got offended.

Thieves heal to much, haha, whenever you think you seen it all…

Playing warrior damages your brain, something like 10/30/30/0/0 will never hit 10k backstabs, and to get the healing numbers you describe you’d have to get SA and Acrobatics to 30 points if you do that your backstab will crit for less than 2k on 2.5k armor.

Your “infamous” 10/0/30/0/30 S/D build is a joke.

I would love for you to come fight the amazing Maguuma/SOS/FA thieves who use these builds you’re laughing at to their fullest then.

Well, the main issue there is that this tier really has THE BEST THIEVES in NA. period. You really can’t compare us with any random thief running 30 in S. arts. It’s a totally different game.

10/0/30/0/30 Is a very powerful build for small fights. However the damage on it is not what you say it is, or even close. the CRITS on s/d with that build are around 3k-3.5k. With backstab it can pump out a 5k-5.5k possibly a 6-7k at the most on a glass target.

Any thief that is using the gain regen on stealth trait is wasting a trait slot anyways, and 90% of thieves don’t even run that. so thieves gain roughly 330hp/sec While in stealth.

Big deal. That means we have to close into our target, and land a clean CnD to go stealth for 4s. To land this CnD the thief probably takes more damage approaching the enemy than it actually will receive in healing while stealth. Not to mention while stealthed, the enemy is regaining his/her cooldowns as well.

There is no such thing as a thief holding this regen in combat. Either we are in stealth gaining a meager 330hp/sec, giving you time to recup as well. Or we are fighting you receiving NO healing.

Either way, a proper lockdown and burst will empty 12k hp pretty kitten ed quick, I assure you.

oh, do you mean that up in the air counter? c’mon…

consider me any class. say engi, or mesmer, or necro. how would you prevent d/p thief from stealth reset of fight?

and it’s not about HS alone. entire weapon set. they need to be on the same playing field as the rest. may be i want to interrupt sb#2 spam? or PW? anything.

First off, A 3 sec stealth is faaaaaaar from a reset. Next, When i play my engi or guard I destroooooooy d/p thieves. The only real “reset” a thief has is Shadow Refuge.

Engineer and Necro are especially deadly against d/p Thieves so I really don’t understand where you are coming from. The counter to HS isn’t ONLY the interrupt (which does hurt them tremendously, trust me) but the predictability. You visibly SAW where they jumped to and it is extremely easy to lay down AoE all over that position especially as an Engi or necro.

As far as the interrupt goes, When the init is used on the interrupt, yes a Thief can use another HS But after that 3 secs is up The thief has regenerated 3 init after using 12.
So using another combo right away for a “reset” is impossible if you keep pressure on the thief.

[Suggestion] Thief- Last Refuge.

So I was just sitting there thinking about how Last refuge is a double edged sword. Sometimes saving me, sometimes dooming me.

Finally it struck me how the trait could be fixed to give more control to the user.

It should work as an active proc. So for example: The Thief falls below 25% HP and a new ability shows up (My idea would be to add this to the F2 slot) for a free blinding powder. The ability would only be active while below 25% HP.

So possibly When you trait 5 into SA you gain a new F2 ability that is on perpetual cooldown and can only be activated when below 25% HP. Therefore keeping the saving nature of this trait while giving control of the revealed buff back to the player.

Thoughts? questions?

Just go as much armor as you can without sacrificing too much damage, or until you feel comfortable. Cavalier pieces are your best friend. I usually run anywhere from 2700-2800 armor on my Thief.

It’s one of my favorite steals. You can use it as raw dps, you can use it as a counter to LB pin down or rifle warriors. And if you really need to get out of a bad situation and you have it you can use it as a projectile reflect to secure an escape.

I honestly don’t know how you wouldn’t find this steal useful.

The problem I could see with this is that in PvE, we want mobs to be able to more able handle conditions and other effects. At the same time however, conditions are still way too weak.

If mobs also had immunity to conditions…

This would never effect PvE mobs. Problem solved. =)

My point is your acting like condition application is a problem. Condition application is how condition builds do damage. Taking it away for 2 seconds gives one more invuln for 2 seconds. Consider that blocks, dodges, and invulns already mitigate condition damage that is being applied to you just the same as direct damage. That means you would have one extra way to mitigate condition damage. Currently there are more ways to mitigate condition damage then direct damage. Did you forget that every way you can stop direct damage you are also able to stop condition damage by not letting it be applied? Then you have condition removal, and condition immunity which several classes have. On top of that your asking for a 3rd type of condition only damage mitigation. That would crush the condition classes in this game which you don’t play based on your sig. I understand thieves have a hard time with condition builds, and maybe that needs to be buffed, but all these crazy ideas about completely destroying condition damage are ridiculous when it can already be mitigated in more ways than direct damage. Maybe some condition builds are over the top and need to be toned down, but changing the game drastically will just add more imbalance and less variety.

I play all builds all classes. Don’t try to belittle the topic by attacking me directly. Yes I fully understand the topic coming from both ends.

As a Thief i have great condi removal, that is not the issue here. I DO play condi classes, I play ALOT of engy in tourny.

You guys are using analogies that don’t even make sense on top of it. If I’m on my engy, and somebody uses a cleanse, I’m not going to freak out about having a 2 sec immunity timer on them. I’ll count to 2 and light them up again.

Besides, this is just a suggestion, there is no need to be so negative.

Also, the idea is for this to only work on utility cleanses for yourself. And only effects the condition cleansed.

Thanks for being constructive. Like i said. If you think a 2 sec immunity after a long cd cleanse is going to destroy your build, then you have other issues you need to take into consideration.

So I was talking to a few people about the current way conditions are handled and the fact that they can be reapplied so quickly after a powerful cleanse.

I noticed it mostly after playing my meditation Guard for awhile in WvW, and even after using my full clear (Contemplation of Purity) while fighting an engy i had everything i cleared right back on me within a few seconds.

I know this is also an issue for other classes in other situations and i thought of a pretty cool idea to help buffer the defensive capabilities of some classes against condi spam.

I think that Utility skills that remove condition should have an added passive: Immunity to the cleansed condition for the next 2 secs.

So for example: Guardian has bleeding, and poison on him, he uses Smite Condition, Bleeding is removed and for the next 2 seconds BLEEDING can not be applied again.

This of course will also have to have an ICD to prevent abuse through traits or pulsing condi removal. I think after the first time it is wiped you are immune to the WIPED condition for 2 seconds and that effect can only happen every 10 secs or so.

I think some traits may have to be tweaked to not gain this benefit at all (Shadow’s Embrace for Thieves for example.) But overall the idea felt pretty balanced all around.

I think it would help bolster the defenses of classes that are plagued by low condi removal and at the same time a 2 second pause on the condition type that was cleansed should not really hurt any skilled condition player all that much.

Overall I think this change to condition cleanses would bring a new type of counterplay for both sides. The defense for being able to counterplay a condition spike by timing the 2 sec immunity or the offense for keeping better track of when the opponent last used their condition clear.

That is the basic rough draft. Any other ideas, suggestions or questions about clarification are welcome!

Yeah it’s pretty crap. I was in the middle of selling a legit p1 when all of a sudden i got pushed out of the instance (i was instance owner). It’s pretty discouraging and almost makes running pretty frustrating.

That red post was months ago. Can we get any kind of update on fixing this OBVIOUS bug? I just had my dungeon group that I had instance ownership of randomly kicked out of the dungeon on the last boss, including myself.

I posted in LFG for a 5th party member, and next thing i see 1 guy join, my whole instance reset, and my whole party fell apart.

When you have a group of 4, the only way i think to kill the instance is if someone from your group merges with another party. So if you need a 5th player in a last boss tell your party to NOT MERGE GROUPS!

my party was 100% pre-made and on voice comms, i assure you this was not the case. someone merged onto my party and disbanded it.

Seriously though this needs a fix asap. It’s been known for awhile now and it is really disheartening when you spend a while in a dungeon only to have it torn apart by a party merge that nobody approved.

So wait, potentially I can advertise myself as new group in LFG, click merge party every time I have that option – and I kick ppl from THEIR OWN instances? Cooooool!! :-DD

… Then I leave the group and repeat?

Please tell me this this does not work.

It’s even easier then taht, all you ahve to do is join an existing group and merge them into any other existing group. Any troll can potentially waste hours of people lives with a few simple clicks. Gotta love it.
