Will Berserker be superior to Warrior?

in Warrior

Don’t think Berserker is that mandatory.

Every build always uses Discipline + Defense as a starter and then adds another line depending on what you want to play in PvP.
Strength seems to be a must for any GS build and Tactics for shout builds, obviously. Which pretty much leaves no room for Berserker.

Some builds which could fit in Berserker traits without losing too much and gaining way more in return.
I am looking forward to trying an updated version of Hambow with Defense, Discipline and Berserker for one. Adding even more cc (Taunt and Head Butt) to the build seems rather good. You will also gain some survivability with the Dead or Alive trait.

There might be some room for Berserker in PvE. It usually comes down to PS builds, though. You will have to at least take Tactics and Strength once again. Choice would be between Arms and Berserker. It might still be Arms in the end.

Berserker only really seems to outshine others in condition heavy builds.

There isn’t much to add… Doubt we will get it designed our way to be honest.

Wanted to write this before but didn’t think anybody cared in the post you mentioned.
Just a little rant:

This issue would have been absolutely out of the question not so long ago. Now though, everyone seems to feel entitled to everything almost instantly after joining an MMO.

I do enjoy people with rare and expensive skins even if I do not own them myself. Rare stuff like the Grinning Shield shouldn’t become avaible to everyone.
It is a reward for veteran players for being around in the old days. If you were there but didn’t bother to buy it like me then that is your own fault. You can still get it for the current price if you feel like it is worth that amount.

And even worse if those rewards had to be earned by outstanding play in PvE or PvP.
People should be able to gain some idea of what type of player you are by just looking at your character or title.
Why shouldn’t outstanding players look and feel special in some way. There is a lot of work involved when you try to improve at something.
This game has gone so far from the idea of giving powerful and unique looking gear only to those few who are actually good enough to kill some endgame boss or to reward the rare few who are able to dominate the PvP leaderboards as it gets.

Only those who managed to slay the lion should be able to wear it’s skin.

Sad place of Warriors in the meta

Henry.5713

The move of the meta towards burst and condition burst, with small nerfs to warriors and buffs to other classes, wasn’t at all in their favour. There is only Ramapge now.

Almost everything else about warriors feels below average. It is becoming harder and harder to justify having one on your team, apart from being forced to because that’s the only class member X plays.

Warriors used to be a must have in most teams for a long time. It might be their turn to be pushed out of the meta this time.

Personally, I’d use this chance for a big overhaul of the class if I was ArenaNet:

- make shield a bigger part of the class, with action combat orientated blocks
- make stances a core mechanic, with the ability to swap their passive effects in combat (those would be up to balancing of course)
- not unique to warriors, but make toughness actually matter

These changes would reduce the need to go tripple stances to have any form of defense. Opening up utilities slots for currently unused options like banners, physical skills or shouts (outside of full shout builds).

One can only dream.

There should be an option that you don’t care for anything shown so far. Many of us feel that way.

Was looking forward to Tempest. Seems like I was hoping for something much bigger than what we will get.
The ability to combine attunements would have been interesting or a fifth attunement for that matter.

Instead, we are essentially going to get a build that will reward you for staying on the same attunement for a longer period of time.
Something people who have trouble with quick swapping and having many different skills have been asking for, I guess.

Even then, it seems unfinished and a little weak.

Always ready to be proven wrong by them. There are some hopes left for the warrior one…

Are warrior balanced?

in Warrior

Henry.5713

It feels like warriors went backwards. There are minor differences, sure.
But it is essentially melee GS with good burst and little else all over again.
The only difference is that people started using Rampage.

I wouldn’t say warriors are balanced:

Too powerful:
-Rampage builds

Too weak:
-Everything else

Let’s just hope the next balance patch won’t simply weaken GS and Rampage and leave everything else the way it is. Wouldn’t be the first time.

That utility skill has already had it’s duration and adrenalin gain reduced and you can no longer use it outside of combat to gain adrenalin before you fight.

That’s a global thing, You don’t keep adrenaline outside of combat. I dont think it’s fair to use that as a con when all of your adrenaline gaining skills (Signet) have the same effect.

Wonder how people would like it if they removed an active skill like that and gave us a trait like “remove 1-3 conditions every 10seconds based on how much adrenalin you have”.

Well with the weaponswap trait alone you remove 3 conditions every 12 seconds/15 seconds without runes. That’s assuming you miss every burst skill and never get a cleanse from that.

That being said, You already have CI and nobody likes passive skills. (Yes i know CI requires you to land your skill but we can’t try to justify being rewarded for missing, All of necros weapon skill transfers require you to hit your skills)

Brawler’s Recovery and Cleansing Ire aren’t as great as they might sound on paper:

1. You’ll never hit a rate of 3 condies removed every 15secs (only with BR) in a real fight
2. A condition class will apply 10+ condition at least in the same amount of time
3. You will mostly use BR to remove blinds before you attempt to hit with your CI to remove 1-3 of the other 10 conditions on you.
4. Hitting that CI is hard when you are effected by 3 slowing conditions, combined with animation heavy adrenalin skills which can be blocked, dodged, blinked, blinded or just kited
5. Most warriors will tell you that stacking defensive cooldown like Berserker Stance, Endure Pain, Rampage will lead to a do or die situation, as in you are dead once they run out if you didn’t make something happen

I am against this passive GW2 gameplay or against complete hardcounters to anything.
That won’t change the fact that many of the most powerful conditions proc on crit or even hit.
Many of the defenses like protection, weakness, removal or aegis proc on hit, crit or on some % of your HP. (Yes, warriors have some of these as well.)

A change like that would just make it worse. I really hope they don’t continue to nerf active skills and introduce even more passive stuff.

That utility skill has already had it’s duration and adrenalin gain reduced and you can no longer use it outside of combat to gain adrenalin before you fight. Now you want to make it vulnerable to boon rip/removal and boon stealing?

Let’s face it though, the real issue we have with this is the weak, limited amount of active condition removals warriors are down to.
Cleansing Ire was already bad enough without longbow before. After the changes it became almost useless in many scenarios.

The only positive change we have gotten in ages was Brawler’s Recovery.

Other condition removals force you to take a weak weapon and a trait or a set of runes and two to three full utility slots to make them work.
There aren’t any real condition removals based on your weapon skills, unlike other classes’ skills. Everything is based on using important rune, trait or utility choices as boon removals.

We’d need some big changes to active and passive condition removal before anyone can justify nerfing that skill even more.

Wonder how people would like it if they removed an active skill like that and gave us a trait like “remove 1-3 conditions every 10seconds based on how much adrenalin you have”.

They are using a gray market. ArenaNet neither authorizes nor covers the any dealing going on there. It really isn’t their problem.

We should be happy they don’t consider this a black market. That would lead to them banning anyone trying to sell outside of the TP.

What do Warriors do Better?

in Warrior

Posted by: Henry.5713

Henry.5713

Versatility has always been the main reason why some classes/builds became huge parts of their respective meta. Builds which managed to impact the game in many ways, while still outclassing everyone in at least one aspect of the game.

The old Shoutbows are a good example. They were able to backcap with their mobility, duel against anybody, roam or push, bunker against most builds, greatly support their team in big fights and more. They actually outclassed other builds in a few of the aspects of the old meta, while still being this versatile.

The new warrior feels versatile still. Yet, now this seems to come at a rather hard price: full mediocrity. They get outclassed at any aspect of the new meta. May it be support or bunkering, burst, duels, roaming or mobility.

It is the possible game turning Rampage, combined with some options on which role you take that still keeps warriors in some meta teams.

They ground they stand on is a lot more shaky than it used to be, though.

All of the classes can have decent dps and some utility.

Any guild or group that does not try to compete on the speedrun level (talking about those who want to set records or want to compete with best/fastest groups) shouldn’t care too much about your class if you are able to pull your weight.

Like people already mentioned: join pugs, play well, impress someone even and then ask if their guild needs new members. That’s usually the easiest way to meet people. A nice person and good player on their class would still be more welcome than some jerk on a meta class not even playing well.

Defensive traits seem too weak

in Warrior

Posted by: Henry.5713

Henry.5713

Traits or utilities which increase everyone’s survivability while not making the person sacrafice too much of his own offense are the way to go in PvE. Guardians shine at this. Aegis, protection, reflects, blinds, condition removal, stability… just to name a few. Warriors really don’t.

If there was content that required a tank, warriors could take that role with the proper setup, though. They’d need a proper party. Something like this:

-dodges
-Toughness, Vitality gear
-Healing Signet
-Adrenal Health
-Endure Pain + the trait
-Shield Stance
-good weakness uptime
-healing Elementalist: perma regen + Soothing Mist
-healing guardian: high or perma Protection /Aegis uptime with Altruistic Healing on top of that
-many party condition removals
-perma vigor
-costant use of blinds
-smart CC where the longest stuns don’t get eaten by Defiance

A warrior like that sounds ridiculously tanky, able to eat huge burst because of the HP pool and Toughness, crazy Hp/sec regeneration if you add everything up and damage immunity with Shield Stance and Endure Pain.

We are yet to see any encounter where anything that tanky was actually needed.

And that’s how I’d imagine Raids in GW2. Add a DPS race on top of that so you can’t have ten players going cleric builds. But, that is neither here nor there.

I am a bit surprised by this and about how much times have changed…

It used to be a common thing that hard content wasn’t balanced around being accessible and completable by everybody.
Improving to be able to finish dungeons/raids/seiges/etc. used to be a major driving point for most players.

Guildwars 2 has never even been like that. With everything being made to give sure rewards to casual players if they try a few times.
Gear never mattered much, nor did the amount of time you played. You could always join the zergs to completely open world stuff or do farming runs. You’d eventually find a pug that enables you to run most dungeons.

Do we really need to decrease the difficulty of PvE content which wasn’t already that hard, just so absolutely everybody can complete absolutely everything?

Don’t like the fact that you might as well leave that slot empty with quite a few builds. Anything with Healing Signet and no Rampage, in fact.

Looks a bit like someone was trying to make warriors play different healing skills and some physical skills. It worked with Rampage, I guess.

The Arms master line is another bad one:
Blademaster is the only trait in that slot that actually seems strong enough to be on the master level.
Considering Deep Strike, it should be Adept and or a minor even.
And Unsuspecting Foe as the third one. Totally wrong spot for it, if you ask me. I’d like if they replaced one of Strength adepts with it.

Well, I’d consider learning to utilize all of the tools given to you a L2P issue. I might have misunderstood it then, even if I disagree about having all of the tools right now.

In any case, my opinion is based on the current balance / trait change patch. The recent changes (from a PvP point of view) were rather disappointing to a lot of us. It wasn’t like this prepatch.
Nobody complains about PvE because everyone (including myself) seems to be rather happy with the recent changes.

It is not about forcing anyone into playing anything. I’d rather have build diversity than having to play Shoutbow only.
Yet, there are certain builds which work too well in sPvP or even PvE for people trying to be as effective as possible not use. Those are the ones you are forced to play. The current patch isn’t any different.

People seems to hate whenever someone brings up the ESL and the builds played there, but warriors seem have to almost completely disappeared. It is a bit worrying.

make burst precision ignore blind unblockable

in Warrior

Posted by: Henry.5713

Henry.5713

Well, I haven’t taken my warrior into PvP lately. However, for PvE I use Burst Mastery, Burst Precision, and Signet Mastery.

Burst Mastery gives +7% increased damage on burst skills (as well as adrenaline recharge), Burst Precision gives 100% crit chance, and Signet Mastery give unblockable (6s) when you hit a foe below 50% HP. (And for Signat Mastery, all you need is at least one signet, and Healing Signet is almost always equipped by default it seems, so its not something you need to worry about.)

But it does nothing if you are blinded of course. However, we do have condi removal options, so I guess you’d have to pay attention, use a removal, then hit with Eviscerate (or other burst skill), which if they are at least 50% HP become unblockable. Which people are more likely to block at that point then at the beginning of the enounter.

Don’t think this is a Learn to Play issue. The current state of sPvP just isn’t in a warriors favour at all.

Everything is about Discipline once again. Warrior’s Sprint, Brawler’s Recovery, Burst Mastery and Fast Hands are pretty much mandatory. I don’t see any build working without these traits.
Next would be Defense. Dogged March / Shield Master, Defy Pain, Cleansing Ire / Last Stand and Adrenal Health seem too good to let go.
So it is either Strength, Arms or Tactics as your third choice. Marauder goes for Strength. Shout builds go for Tactics. Some condition builds choose betweenTactics for Burning Arrows or Arms for the sword traits.

The utilities you are left with are either three stances and Rampage, and not much else once those go on recharge.
Or two to three shouts, which are no longer enough to fight the onslaught of conditions and burst.
Or even use a mix of these.

Almost all of these are defensive choices, and yet they don’t seem to be enough anymore. Enemies will still be able to kill you before you kill them.

I think Deimos is right in suggesting that it is our weapon skill based traits which need a change. Even if it is just the adrenalin skills.

Some classes got such interesting new effects compared to us. A few ideas come to mind, those could be added to any of the offensive traits even:

- 4th level of adrenalin to give bursts a new punch
- already mentioned extra effects to adrenalin levels plus one for the 4th level
- another effect on the dodge roll
- crazy adrenalin recovery whenever you are on low hp and lower burst cooldowns
- higher defenses, less conditions based on how low your hp gets
- enrage effect that might make you go into rampage randomly if you get hit too often or get dodged/blocked/etc

We didn’t get any baselines, so I don’t see any of these coming either. One can only dream.

The actual buffs and changes would be up to debate and balancing, sure. This probably sounds a bit more dramatic than it is…

However, having some counter to all of those instant bursts, blocks, blinds, dazes and stuns would be indeed nice.
Don’t think this sounds as overpowered as it would have in the past. You can still dodge or teleport or use one of the immobilize breaking retreats when you see the animations of the burst skills.

I’d much rather have the ability to counter some defenses than more passive traits, instant defensive boons or conditions on hit.
Don’t think anyone can deny that warriors got the short end of the stick when it comes to instantly casted bursts or skills. So wouldn’t they need some way to actually stand up to those?

And stances just aren’t enough anymore. You can’t even make things happen during their use most of the time.
It is only when you pop Rampage that you get to pick someone off quickly.

Honestly, are warriors supposed to be just a walking 120sec cooldown now?

Everything wrong with Warrior, post-patch

in Warrior

Posted by: Henry.5713

Henry.5713

Going to leave PvE out of this because I don’t have much to complain about apart from the placement of the Axe GM.

Seems to me that they decided warriors were so strong that they only justified nerfs across the board in sPvP. Almost like they mainly listened to the community which always associated the power of shoutbows with all of the warrior builds in general.

What it comes to in a discussion about balance however, is a look at the current state of the other classes not just warriors:
There are so many new synergies, adjustments and buffs to already strong builds in the meta. There is more burst, more conditions, more everything.

But now look at warriors… builds everyone ran, some which weren’t even that strong anymore, got mostly nerfed:
-Shouts scale now, making them less effective with celestial gear. Warhorn changes.
-Hambow has a lot of trouble without being able to use all of the traits at the same time.
-Berserker GS builds are at the point they have always been, not a strong one in spvp.
-Berserk axe builds can’t use both of the damage traits.
-etc.

It is the usual ArenaNet balancing issue. They go way overboard with nerfing one class, while slightly or even heavily buffing other classes. This pretty much removes that class out of the meta in return. Players who have been around for a while should remember how many times that has happened…

My feelings when comparing warrior to other classes.

PVE (mostly dungeons):
Good: higher dps, more active play, good str and disc lines
Bad: on hit (not on use) adrenalin dps buff, movement skill change
Ugly: arms trait line, especially master choices, grandmaster should have Axe Mastery

PVP:
Good: Burning Arrows (even if tactics is meh otherwise), peak performance can be hillarious with rampage
Bad: warhorn changes, some trait choices are terrible (3/3 are useless for your build)
Ugly: changes to hambow traits, longbow not proc’ing adrenalin dps buff

WVW:
Good: new warrior sprint, berserk warrior seems fun
Bad: movement skill changes

I feared this would happen when I saw some of the upcoming trait changes a while ago. Hoped they’d go back on putting both traits into Discipline GM, similar to what they did with important elementalist traits.

Someone out there seemed to think that Hambow still needed to get “balanced”, though. That, combined with the buffs to some already strong builds, puts Hambow (even warrior in general) far behind.

Was looking forward to playing Hambow again as a response to the new berserk builds.

Spend my evening dueling against friends. Got to say, I like this balance a lot. You can still tank with the more tanky builds. Everyone just has a lot more trouble against more than one opponent now. A good thing in my opinion.

Cele feels really strong against burst builds. Easy access to Stone Heart and weakness on Lightning Whip crit. Your counter pressure deals more damage than it used to also. People just need to get used to reading their oppnonents to counter the burst with Stone Heart.

But that is kind of the point here. Everyone will get tired of getting bursted and throw in one defensive line at least.

Weakness seems to be the name of the game.

Noticed new access to weakness on both warrior and ranger. Protective Ward ranger seemed especially good against burst coming out of stealth.

weren’t afk anymore Well…I called the person on it and a dude said “she got an unepected phone call.”

Right away I got the feeling “dude is attracted to a supposed girl” syndrome.. They were the only two friends on there so i decided to motion to kick the person that was afk…. Dude gets super kittened and the kick fails so he motions me to be kicked and i get kicked from the group!!! right before the final BOSS!

When I brought up the afking previously he was like “its okay i can carry us” rofl. Thats not the point !!!

I was so mad for being kicked so I send a pm to the guy that had me kicked and he says he wants me to apologize to the girl to let me back in lol. At this point its sooooo obvious its one of those poor souls that is getting used by the girl or the guy is lonely.(well a good chance that’s what it is)

So I apologize to the girl but I also give her a good talking too about proper lfg manners and how afking is not a good thing for such a long time and suggest she just quit if its that long of afk. She actually apologized to me and sent me 1g lol.

Since i got let back in the group and still got my bonus+chest I sent her back the 1g.

So let this be a lesson to you who join a group… If someone is afking right from the start…. find out wha the deal is sooner then later so you can trash that party and find another.

So apprently this person thought it was cool to be carried and afk through the whole fractal.

Many of these groups of friends run pugs with heavy double standards. Any requirements or restrictions don’t apply to them.
You seem to have gotten a rather understanding group, compared to what I am used to.

Can you really blame Arenanet / Ncsoft for doing this? B2p systems are based on consistantly drawing in new players. The biggest chunk of the revenue comes from the game sales after all. It is a smart marketing decision to me.

I don’t really care about new players getting the game for free while I had to pay the full prize either. It was a rather cheap prize to pay for almost three years of gameplay, including updates and such.

Whether us veteran players deserve special rewards is a different issue entirely. We don’t pay monthly subscriptions in the end, I guess. Yet, some rewards would have been nice. Don’t think it should be a cheaper access to the expansion, though.

I can’t stand games that make you kill every single trash monster in dungeons before you can progress any further. Skipping has been around as long as there have been instances or dungeons in games. My favorite being FT in Aion.

However, if you want a sure way to make players stop and kill things in dungeons then make it worth their while. It is all about the gold gain in the end.

Just a few ideas:

- much better drop rates in general (T6 mats, etc.)
- add daily quests which makes you kill them (mats, skins, etc)
- add more champions, reverse some changes to the daily gold gain from dungeons

Open world content was doomed from the beginning if you are looking for challenging content. There is no open world pvp and everyone gets their own loot. This just makes people gather the biggest group possible to go pewpew.

Now imagine the craziness that would ensue if they put bosses (precursors as loot or something) into WVW during peak hours. A limited amount of loot people have to share on top of that. Would spice things up for sure.
But it just doesn’t sound like it fits the “everyone should play together and have fun” spirit.

Considering how they have been very careful not to mention anything too specific whenever they talk about “challenging” pve content makes me doubt that it will be anything instanced once again, though.
And also, people have greatly different opinions and scales on what is challenging.

Warriors are “forgiven” for taking damage and make mistake due to this passive healing, while other classes have lower sustain than Warrior, so they have to time dodge much more precisely and make less mistake. Like I posted earlier, Warrior is the only class that are rewarded for bad game-play of being hit. (Cleansing Ire and LB F1 ftw)

You really have to start playing something other than a shoutbow War to see what’s called “low margin of error”.

It seems people have to justify any argument against warrior nerfs by mentioning that there are other warrior builds than shoutbow. Those people might even have started to play other builds or classes quite a long time ago before they were forced to turn to shoutbow during this meta. Even builds with that “low margin of error”.

I was talking about being able to heal up by 50% (or more) of your entire hp pool after a burst hit compared to the inability to do so with HS.
Warriors shine at sustain over long period of time. The active healing part of HS is quite abysmal (3275/20sec) however.
This is a big issue when they get focus bursted by any decend team in spvp. Healing for 7500 over 20secs passively does absolutely nothing for you when you are reduced to almost 0 hp instantly and are about to get downed.
Don’t forget the lack of additional powerful effects compared to other strong heals. May it be stealth, a dodge and removal, a blast, a water field or a block. Those will often help to take less damage after the burst or during the casting. Some of those effects synergize as perfectly with those classes as the passive healing does with a warrior.

Before you Nerf Healing Signet

There is no healing burst from this healing skill whatsoever. That makes it vital to dodge any burst or long poison durations. You are forced to avoid almost everything even some auto attack chains.
Add that to a warrior’s inability deal damage while they kite to stay alive, unlike some other classes in pvp who are able to deal good damage during kiting.
The amount of skilful play that this requires is a lot higher than people give it credit. And it is only when someone masters it that they can make it seem like they lose hardly any hp in pvp.

The major imbalance people always talk about only happens when you add the passive healing to everything a shoutbow and only a shoutbow already has. They are able to kite on point with the longbow, they are able to burst heal or remove conditions quite well. That however is a entirely different issue in itself during this meta.

Nerfs hitting all of the warrior builds across the board wouldn’t be a good solution however. There have been too many instances already where nerfs across the board turned out to be way too much.

Don’t forget that these changes have only been mentioned but remain yet to be fully confirmed with exact and final numbers. We’ll see.

On the bright side:
Does anyone else remember the devs dueling in the hotm during one of the Twitch streams? Maybe…

dueling

The good old “dueling feature” debate.

I have seen this so many times, it has become somewhat wearing:

There always happen to be a lot of players who neither like any kind of dueling mode or type of pvp feature, nor have had any good experiences with said content in any MMO ever.
Some dislike dueling to a point where they are convinced that it’ll destroy the game or any fun they might have in an open world game.

And of course there are people with a different opinion. Those who have fond memories of this feature in an open world game. Whether it might be dueling your friends for fun or good players for a challenge or just to pass some time outside town/a dungeon. Those who do not see why it hasn’t been in the game from the start.

I, for one, am more inclinded to agree with the second group based on my preferences and experiences. Some fun matches with my friends between dungeon would be a good addition to competitive matches in tpvp. Those duels wouldn’t be serious or competitive, they’d be about having fun with people. And there aren’t any real alternatives to this in the game. Popular dueling servers have class or gear rules not everyone wants to follow. There isn’t any way to protect yourself from people ruining your duels on no name servers either.

Communities will always have black sheeps who give dungeon pugs, spvp players, open world content players or duelers a bad name. It would be rather sad if we had to delete all of that content simply to protect ourselves from them.
If people actually go as far as bothering you with whispers or actions because the auto decline is in place and actived then it would be the job of arenanet to deal with those black sheep after you decided to report them. Just like they have to do with any bad community members in dungeons or other world content.

This game is and should be all about allowing players to decide which parts of the content they want to enjoy. As long as there is an auto decline option and a support team dealing with your reports accordingly, I just can’t see why this shouldn’t be in the game based on how many players, none of which seem to be any of those dueling trolls, want it as a feature.
Hell, some, me included, would spend gems on this.
