Can anyone explain me how i get to this seemingly random Retaliation Buff? There where no allies in my area and it happens all the time it seems. Does anyone know how?

How much I would like to see it, pets in Guild Wars 2 aren’t the same as in for example Rappelz. (Which is centered around different kinds of pets etc.) Because of the simplistic skill-interface pets currently have it’s hard enough to use 1 pet let alone use 2. A second pet summoned in my opinion defeats the purpose of having it summoned when the cooldown on the f4 skill is only like 10 seconds if I can recall.So no for me. 10 seconds isn’t that big of a deal to just use a pet for it’s buffs. Each class is balanced enough to be able to combine skills that will give you a certain playstyle. Build your ranger around a certain pet if you want to have DPS or have good party buffs. You can’t excel in both at the same time. Would make Rangers OP sending a jaguar and jungle stalker on someones kitten xD

one pet is active (like our normal pets atm) and the other one is passive (no attacking just standing there being invulnerable) and giving some buffs for the ranger and maybe his teammates. one pet attacks and works exactlay like our petes now and the other one is the “Aspect” of a pet many people wanted to have. Just a moving bnuff station if you want so. no dmg dealt by it and no damage taken, maybe not evebn targetable
why no? i think its actually a good idea… swapping pets between active/passive with f4 and passive pet could be used to pump put some sweet group wide buffs. This way Anet could keep their Ranger Philosophy and we would have this “aspect”-kind of thing many people are asking for. I think its a good idea +1 from me
BM: Depends on the heal, but could work if you play BM bunker still.
Only thing I got excited about in the entire presentation was lightning reflexes.

Sure, it is a roaming build, but roaming is what we excel at.
Also, do not forget, entangle now cleanses condies and grant fury. That is NOT something to be ignored.

There is actually a Screenshot where they show trhe new unlock system for traits and it happens to be a ranger tree… NONE of out Traits in that line are merged or are swapped to skirmishing
If you had really read the announcement you would know that this trait is gonna be in the marksman line…

Why else would you run healing spring other than in a team comp? It has a horrible heal unless you spec full healing and in PVE you’re not and if you’re doing 1on1s troll is amazingly better. It’s a team heal all the way, therefore it IS a nerf.
Lets see wether it is really that bad.
if you manage to stay in for the new 10 sec, you will have ~7000 healing.
+ most ranger builds can perform at least 2 finishers (leap and/or blast) in it.
Against melee enemies you can potentially go up to 5! finishers (2 drakes + sword/horn + GS)
makes ~9600 healing with 2 finishers and ~13500 with 5 finishers.
So with the right build it can be an awesome heal.
Not to mention the improved condi removal!This is why rangers are looked at as bad, they think of never existing scenarios and try to prove points with them.
When, and I mean when will a good player who knows a ranger is running healing spring STAY IN THE SPRING WITH YOU AND ALLOW THAT TO OCCUR? None.
Any enemy with AOE (mesmers, necros, thieves, OTHER RANGERS, ETC ETC) will simply place the AOE on top of that healing spring, completely nullifying it. It still baffles me that people think like this that they can just at free will be able to do leaps into it when people have interruption and not to mention with perplexity now.
I’ll give you a real life scenario , and it actually occurred earlier today on my thief. A Ranger I was dueling tried putting down healing spring and used the insanely telegraphed #2 leap into it , I interrupted him everytime EXCEPT when he had RaO up (how long does stability last again? Oh yea, very minimal against a stealthed player). I not only interrupted his heal, but I stacked 5 stacks of confusion on him as I run perplexity to troll people on one of my thief builds.
I really hate to break this to you, but in that little fantasy world where you think you can actually pull off combo finishers like what you explain against GOOD PLAYERS who are expecting it? It just DOESN’T happen. I’m sorry to burst your little bubble but you need to seriously wake up.
Like I said, this field is used only in groups where teammates can blast into it and you can blast into it. It got a nerf in this regard as the condition removal, like I said before is just an added bonus and is handled by other players more effectively.
Im aware that you will never can do this. It were just possibilities
But except of emathic bond and a 60s cd signet we dont have any viable condition cleanses and the changes to healing spring will help us even if you can only go for 2 finishers

since i face so many lb rangers and pistol/dagger, pistol/pistol thiefs that dont know how to stop attacking, i found whirling defense and the rataliation it provides to be pretty useful. But then again, its pretty useless against good players and people that are aware of the axes pull. i will give them both a try and see which one works better and especially in which situation. maybe horn for small scaled fights and 1v1, and axe for flipping because of the great burst with path and a good aoe damage with the following whirling defense. i will see how it will work out.

I think Mr Sharp stated that there will be much more changes to ranger. For excample Pet health buff, Sic’ em reveals stealt and # of changes to ranger weapons. Lets just see what happens
thought of evasive purity as well, but since it only triggers every ten seconds i dont see many uses for roaming.
Rune of the traveler would cut down my sustain quite a bit since i lose 20% prot duration + the 10 sec prot when i fall below 50% health.
for the movement speed i could just switch out the frost trap while traveling since it won’t help much against other roamers i suppose. they will just step out.
Another way to cleanse conditions could be hs, do you think it would work better if i change it this way?

This build should mainly focus on Solo roaming and camp flipping.
with boons you can get up to: ~2700 effective Power
~3645 effective armor with prot (~90% uptime in best
case scenario)
38% crit chance without Fury and 72% crit dmg with
food
For me it sounds Pretty cool on paper, but what do you think? Can this actually work?

I wanna have a Bond to my Pet like i had it to my Trustworthy Krusty Crab back in GW Days .
But yeah this will make it easier to Keep our pet alive except maybe if our pets gets focused or really aoe heavy bosses like Subject dragontooth spam.
it will take 71,3% longer to kill pets that could possibly get our pet to survive maybe 8 sec against aoe bosses and tequatl will still 1-2 shot them.
Because the AI will still be crappy there will not be that much of a difference in any Boss Encounter i guess. Still the same bad responsiveness etc. pp
As i said they will maybe land2 or 3 more Autoattacks against tougher enemys.

Won’t help us much in dungeons and zergs i guess, but could be interesting to use “Protect me” now and get away from Signets as only useful skills for power based builds

The potential increased hp pool of pets sounds nice, but keeps me wonder. A year has passed. Anet has claimed to work on the pets survivability issues, in the meantime they also claimed that they can’t go for a blanket AoE damage reduction and that simplest solutions are not the way to go, that they have to delve into pet AI and so on.
Now, if this potential change is that solution (I kind of hope there will be something more in October patches), then if it isn’t even simpler than AoE damage reduction, then I don’t know what is. Which leads me to 2 possible conclusions about how Anet worked on Ranger issues, and I don’t like any of them…

It just says that you wont have evasive purity and the on shout switness and regen but only on shout swiftness and regen.

to maximize your damage you should maybe swap maintenance oil for sharpening Stones and since you dont use on crit sigils or Food you wont lose any extra effects
uf… overlooked it. Thx for mention it but it’s still bad traited i think. Though i never used it maybe it’s right.
thats not a question since we have to spreat our traits way too much and most of the time have to go 30 ponts in 1 line to make skills useful ^^

Look at it like this. What you do with ranger is kiting, be it PVE or PVP. You always keep your enemy at long range, which makes him run all the time to get you. With torment he will always take additional dmg just from running to you, also at a point when he’d need to run away, he is still taking dmg.
Still, Necro Fear chain with torment is much worse since our pet can never have as much condidmg as a necro usually has
Torment would be op on ranger
Dont know why it should be OP on ranger but it would definitely not be op on Pets since their Condidmg does not scale too well
