It’s almost like there are multiple ways to play the game, and the individual player can choose the one they enjoy the most.
It sounds to me that the OP doesn’t run the kind of guild that makes people want to rep, and is frustrated by people joining and not repping.
My advice would be to create a guild environment where people want to rep and be part of your guild, rather than spending effort trying to make it so they can’t do anything except that.
If should be their choice on guilds, and it’s your responsibility to make it so they choose yours.
I main a necro and in wvw this weekend I fought many a scourge 1v1 with my base power necro and my power daredevil. I think I went a combined 9-1 against scourges, and that 1 was my daredevil and a scourge went down at the same time and you always lose a downed fight against a necro.
I can see some potential in the class, but it’s certainly not overpowered in any way.
I’ve found it interesting to fight people using PoF specializations on my core/HoT ones. There is almost certainly some balance issues to work out, but I didn’t feel run over by anyone.
The biggest challenge was figuring out what the base class is. The icons are new, and it might be a few seconds into a fight before you learn you’re fighting a weaver or firebrand.
I’m more curious how you guys are getting into full servers.
I’ve got friends trying to get into SoS and it’s like, permaclosed for some reason.
Map completion.
I’m hoping that the new specializations are completely unlockable for 250 hero points like the HoT ones were.
Really? if they are…well ill never have to worry about running out of them at least
At least on that character, other characters might not have that same surplus. Giving players a reward for map completion like quickly unlocking new specs would be a nice thing to do.
Pre-HoT, you could have gotten a fair chunk of the HoT specs done if you had a complete map. This time around Anet kind of backed themselves into a corner, though. Do they make it harder and make the dedicated player base angry, or do they make it easy and get a collective yawn as many people have it out of the gate.
Hopefully they choose the later and if people want to wait to “earn” it in the crystal desert, they can.
The technology exists to do it. For it to tank the sigil market, all players would have to have all their toons outfitted in legendary weapons. That’s simply not true.
Hero points are part of the character progession. You can have over 350 spare hero points right now. There is no dilemma.
I have 359 at the moment, how on earth did i get that many though?
Map completion.

I’d like a finisher that is a ballista build site, which breaks 3 seconds later. They already have the animation.
I play base necro, but love Druid. I play daredevil but don’t like chronomancer so I play base mesmer.
There isn’t a right or wrong way to play these classes, and the base classes are still fully functional.
I like the unidentified gear and wish I could get it everywhere. The inventory management gains are big when you’re in the middle of the fray.
If there were a salvage-kit-like-ID item, it could cost karma or spirit shards, it would let me use an underwhelming currency. Currency at heart vendors is nice and may control inflation that has been kicking up in recent years.
Basically, what’s happening is that elite specs are being turned into OPTIONS for characters, rather than straight upgrades. Even Spellbreaker is limited to TWO adrenaline bars, which means it STILL won’t have the sustain of three bar bursts. It’s a good direction for the game to take, even if it has immediate consequences that are difficult to predict.
This would great reasoning, if it only applied to any other class besides warrior. No class got hit like warrior.
Necro says hi.
Some of them I enjoyed, others not so much. They’re nice additional content that doesn’t have to be done, but rewards you if you do.
Any news on all the available stat combos in PoF? Trying to piece together builds ahead of time.
That’s why i’m back. This is the real GW2 expansion. HoT was just a zerg oriented gimmick.
HoT had a lot of good stuff, HoT’s two biggest problems were:
- The content droughts on both sides of it. Anet is launching PoF directly after LW3 and LW4 directly after PoF, so it seems they have learned that lesson
- A lot of the development time for HoT was spent on things the players wouldn’t directly notice, but were engine upgrades that made some of the mechanics in LW3 and PoF possible. The problem was the players didn’t notice it.
The hype of HoT didn’t match what was delivered. If HoT was launched without the content droughts and without the hype, I think it would have been much better received.
It appears that Anet is wise to all of this, and if PoF can match or exceed the hype we’ll be good for years to come.
im never going back to vitality except if they add some realy strong extra something to Shroud and vitality…
It’s so true. Demolisher stats (Power, Precision, Tougness, Ferocity) are the best for roaming on power reaper. it is a shame they didn’t make it out of sPvP. Marauder is trash in most scenarios when it comes to roaming.
But the theorycrafters will never stop. They would immediately, if they’d start to actually play the game and fight a thief, warrior or dragonhunter on marauder and on demolisher gear.
I’ve had a lot of success with demolisher gear in spvp, however I have to mix marauder’s and soldier’s in wvw because getting the demolisher stat distribution isn’t practical. Hopefully in PoF this changes.
Because of this vitality is 1.69 times more effective on a necromancer than other classes.
It’s not. Shroud degenerates at a fixed percentage (3%/sec. atm.). The moment someone kites you (and every single competent player kites a reaper in shroud!) your vitality bonus to shroud becomes useless.
And we didn’t even start to talk about the healing issues you get with 30k HP. You won’t ever heal up that amount of health again in the progression of a fight. Everyone will kite and peel you…
This is exactly right.
It is also part of the reason I stay as base necro in both spvp and wvw. The range of lifeblast is a lot more practical than reaper shroud in most instances. People forget how to fight base necro because they’re so rare. The buff to death shroud 5 revealing also makes fighting thieves, mesmers, and rangers a lot easier than it was before.
But I disagree that vitality is really that bad. As a power necro/reaper, you can be fairly susceptible to condition damage.
SoS and GoM have been linked twice, which was nice because we had totally different coverages. SoS is very strong in late NA and SEA times, moderate in NA times, and weaker in EU times, if that helps.
I think we’re in a good position now. I’d rather they lowered the wvw rank requirement for the T3 armors, but such is life.
I already named mine Cliff. When I get the other three mounts, they will be named Lefty, Patches, and Tyrone.
This would be cool feature to have. Raptor footprints that glow like the regular footfalls? It seems like it would only require extending the texture to the shape of the mount’s feet.
Got kicked from wvw.
Come to SoS, we’ll stomp our enemies.
I believe the logic is inventory clutter. These things stack and can be identified later, vs. filling up on gear that you have to sort through as you go or you may run out of inventory space.
Whether or not this is better will be determined by how identification works. If it’s super easy, then this is a really big win.
The skirmish tracks award bonus rewards track progress. This recent addition to the game has a noticeable impact on the time to complete tracks. They’re still slightly slower than spvp tracks, but you get more of other loot from the skirmish track.
I’ve soloed all of personal story, lw2, HoT, and lw3 on both a power necro (not reaper) and power Druid just fine.
Some of the encounters were challenging, but I don’t think any of them took more than two tries. I do T4 fractals and wvw daily, and the chaos and prioritization required for both prepared me for any story mission.
Once the participation timer hits 0, it takes 15 minutes to decay.
Smacking a guard adds 2 minutes, once that 2 minutes is up, 15 minutes later you’ll be decayed to 0.
Power warrior was always kind of meh in spvp, but they’re still broken in wvw.
This is a business decision since they want people to play and enjoy PoF. I don’t find it to be a problem, it keeps the game running.
The success of PoF can only help all players. Except necros.
No more cata’s? Must have missed that part of the last patch notes.
They temporarily disabled them because they were causing a server crash.
Asura have no greater access to the Mists than humans – less than, I would argue, given their lack of avatars capable of moving folks into the Mists.
They can control armies of golems, though.
Something she did tweaked Balthazar, and hopefully they don’t leave it as a plot hole in PoF. Dessa needs to be held accountable.
It does give some value to the trebuchets, which were usually only used defensively or in extreme situations.
I preferred the precision over power because of my choice of sigils and traits, but this change doesn’t really bother me.
All utility items got toned down to a point where they’re of negligible usefulness. Except for some of the really expensive scribing ones.
I’ve always been underwhelmed by monk runes on my druid, I find water to be a better choice.
Now if only they would sell them individually so I can have the axe!
This, or the sickle. I already have a watchwork pick.
Soul reaping is now the worst traitline. Absolute garbage with no contribution to whatever the necromancers needs.
Lich form is even more useless than ever.
Plaguelands is worse than it’s former form. (from past patch)
Nerf after nerf. Bet the next nerf will be our shout elite skill and spite traitline.
I wouldn’t say plaguelands is better or worse than plague, they’re completely different skills that perform different roles. I do miss its tankiness in wvw, but plaguelands can clear a room in pve.
Pve is uninteresting. Reason is, you don’t really have a place in PvE besides fractals. And fractals can be cleared with every class. You are lacking in raids, and thus, are not welcome. Pvp is different. We could use the elite skill to overcome the lack of stability and burstphases in wvw, as well as spvp. Now we got something everyone can get out of because its so tiny, and provide next to none in active defense, of which we were lacking in the first place.
I tried dropping plaguelands on points in spvp and find it gets interrupted too easily and if you try to cast anything while you’re trying to drop it, it won’t drop.
I mostly play wvw and was hoping to mix and match with spvp armor, but I only have 400ish ascended shards. Wish I had known, I’d have grinded the recent season enough to get one piece.

Soul Reaping was nerfed. It was good so it got trimmed.
Were there any changes to Death Magic?
Death magic is now better than soul reaping despite not being touched.
I thought I might mix and match and make some pieces in spvp and others in wvw. Then I realized I’m way too low on the currency for either.
This bug has existed for months, not allowing for the direct observation of who owns what, but now it’s more apparent. It’s common when first logging into wvw, and will sometimes persist for up to 2 hours before correcting itself. Whether or not it corrects itself seems to be random.
They nerfed power necro and power reaper, both of whih relied on shroud.
If lynx runes from spvp existed elsewhere this might not be an issue.
22 weeks if you need the T2 armor is the minimum. Raid armor takes 12 weeks.
If you want T3 armor it takes 29 weeks, plus bring rank 2000.
Then this needs to change. Anet said themselves they wanted the WvW legendary armor to match the acquisition time for raid legendary armor.
This is just another reason to remove the weekly ticket cap in WvW.
There’s good reason to have some weekly cap, otherwise people would burn out.
But to match raids, the cost of the legendary item that takes skirmish tickets would need to reduced to about 600 from 1095.

At least celestial scourge will be a thing.
It takes 6570 tickets to buy the items, and another 1310 to buy the lower tier armor.
7880 / 365 = 22 weeks of wvw.
By comparison, it requires 150 legendary insights for raid armor, at a max of 13 per week, or 12 weeks of raids.
So it takes twice as long to obtain wvw legendary armor as raid armor.
I’ll still take it over having to put up with elitist attitudes in raids.
+1 to this. It lets me progress for the armour at my own pace.
I’d agree, except a dev did mention they wanted the time commitment to be the same.
: The sad thing was i almost believed WP and his theory that power Necro’s may actually get some positive changes, man was he off the mark!
I remember WP interviewing game devs and asking them if older elite specs would be made obsolete because PoF would power creep the new elite specs. The answer, obviously, was a resounding “no” from everybody asked.
I feel like an idiot for believing them
Well, in the case of Scourge and Reaper, it’s probably quite true.
Now, Scourge or Reaper compared to any other profession? Yeah.
Both base necro and reaper are impacted by this nerf. I couldn’t find a good reason to player reaper before, and a nerf like this doesn’t help.
It was desperately needed, at the lower end it was painful when your world was in third place.
It also takes a lot of pressure off the need for being outnumbered to get your tracks.
This needed to happen, warriors were broken in wvw and couldn’t be killed in a 1v1 against most classes.
