I don’t know if it’s intentional or not, but any guild can set up the improvements/tactics now; which at least partly resolves the problem.

But I agree, some hierarchical ability to swap out lower auras for higher ones would be nice. The trick would be finding a way to do it without arbitrarily swapping out for the same aura.

Adding 2g to the daily was really silly imo. I don’t see why it was needed as all it’s done is cause huge inflation on EVERY SINGLE ITEM in the game. Every account just adds 2g more to the economy per day with very little effort.

2 gold is nothing. It’s the price of crafting materials that has things going crazy. The mid-grade wood and metals are selling like crazy. I used to farm for the higher materials but have shifted to middle grade wood/metal because of the prices. 2 gold a day doesn’t even compare to how much you can make farming. 2 gold just covers waypoint jumps and odd incidentals like salvage kits.

I’m just not converting gold to gems until things settle down or I really need something. I make quite a bit of gold without really much effort. I don’t even sell the blues and green drops now, I just salvage them. I even salvage some of the yellow drops for the ecto.

Price of materials go hand-in-hand with available cash. Higher demand + higher gold reserves = higher prices.

2g per person per day doesn’t sound like a lot, but it really adds up.

What they said would happen and what has actually happened are not the same thing. The evidence is pretty clear what’s going on and that Keynesian thought will have to go away when they re-examine things.

All the recent gem-shop items have been cosmetic luxury items, not essentials (I need some freaking bank tabs). Such a gold sink could be mostly cosmetic items at high prices or could set a price ceiling for certain items.

100 gold for the boots to a skin set that won’t be offered again until a random day 1-3 months from now would spend a lot of gold. It wouldn’t be the poor players trying to get leather to make exotic armor who are spending it, but with less gold in circulation the leather prices might go down.

  • The poor player benefits because commodity prices are in range of the new daily rewards system
  • The rich player benefits because the gold they’re sitting on can actually buy them something they want
  • Anet benefits because players will buy gems to exchange for gold because gold is useful

Hesacon.8735

Even if we were all to agree that it’s a problem, what is the fix for it? The increase is driven by more players converting gold to gems than gems to gold. You’d either have to reduce the amount of gold that players have to buy gems (nerf income so they’ll buy gems with real money to get gold instead) or reduce their reason to buy gems (by not having interesting things in the gem store, which directly impacts ANet’s income and reduces their budget to make new content.) So either reduce the incoming gold or reduce ANet’s income. Neither of these is a good option imo.

You’re missing the option where inflation is reversed and gem sales stay high: gold sinks. Add items that can be purchased from an NPC for gold, and the gold is removed from the economy entirely.

Things like cultural armor exist, it takes 100 gold to complete a set:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cultural_armor

And we have seen from gem sales people will pay out the kitten for skins. Things like Guild Traders, Karma Converters, and Ley-Energy Matter Converter exist for converting guild commendations, karma, and HoT currencies into other things. As far as I’m aware no such thing exists for coin.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigurlina_Jonsdottir#Items_offered
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Karmic_Converter
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ley-Energy_Matter_Converter

These gem-shop sales have shown that when things are a limited time people will buy them. The same thing would work to suck gold out. Having tiers for 1, 10, and 100 gold at a time would make a dent in short order. Hell, they could even add a gem shop item that would allow two or more purchases per day.

Please Critique my roaming build.

AB doesn’t generate gold. You people need to stop harping on this, it’s a red herring. It may even sink some gold because of salvaging costs and fewer keys are given out from metas than farming would require.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Grand_Exalted_Chest

See, no coin.

You might want to look at that page yourself. Black diamonds don’t generate gold right oh and the champ bags don’t generate silver as well?

Generate means brand new. If you sell something to another player then no new gold is generated. It’s only transferred from one player to another (and some gold is lost due to the taxes).

Fair enough it doesn’t generate gold but no one that mentioned AB here said it generated gold. Still means people doing the AB farm are getting more gold to spend on whatever they want.

Yes, but the person who sold it to them spent gold, and 15% of said gold vanished into the trading company as taxes. So the buyer has less gold to spend now. And the seller 85% the value of ectos.

If anything, AB is acting like a gold sink.

You are correct that massive amounts of gold are not be made out of thin air from AB.
But getting 50 rares a run and selling some and salvaging for ectos then selling that on the TP to other players that are not interested in AB or don’t own HoT. They are getting wealthy by selling those items to player base as a whole however large this player base is verses the AB farmers.

Yes, but you’re not printing money, you’re exchanging it. Exchanging money doesn’t cause inflation, generating it does.

I think that’s too much simplify of economic model. Because porpotion of rich and poor people can also affect the price of luxury items without having an inflation.

Weather better farming methods have an effect on gem price I don’t know.

It’s interesting how cheap it is to buy a legendary now. I think people having a well paid job can probably buy a legendary with 1 day work. That being said legeandary seems increase in price also.

Well, the same can be said about Ectos. AB gives a lot of rares, which are salvaged into Ectos, yet ectos are going up in price not down.

I think that’s the surest sign that AB is not damaging anything, it might be slowing ecto prices more than anything.

I think the problem last season is it was too top-heavy at the expense of frustrating players who would go 0-5 in a night. If you lose every game you’re going to give up and stop playing. The pursuit of that next tier and stringing wins together is more interesting, but much slower to progress.

Legendary and Diamond are supposed to be hard to reach and the majority of players were supposed to be sapphire or ruby.

Maybe the prizes for losing should be slightly higher so people care more about the journey than the destination.

try being in t1 where BG has the week wrapped up Saturday…..

There’s still value into fighting for #2. Last week second place wasn’t decided in T3 until Friday.

A lot of the GoM commanders seemed to pull back a bit after the link at first. Maybe deferring a bit to SoS commanders and maybe getting used to new tactics and the idea of leading blobvblob.

It’s nice to see more of them tagging up lately. Probably starting to feel more comfortable or noticing the lack of tags. GoM has a lot of good/fun pugmanders/havoc tags…really useful for low and disorganized numbers. Also a few good guild commanders from TM/Bliss/ART/etc/etc.

Maybe we’ll get a more favorable matchup next week and get things rolling again. Between the two servers we should have enough commanders to have tags just about everywhere.

I think GoM commanders have done a great job adapting. GoM also has a different coverage than SoS had/has. SoS is light on NA vs. other servers and GoM makes up for that to some degree.

There’s always roaming opportunities. There’s never 100% map coverage. I don’t understand how it’s worse for roaming now

Falling damage everywhere. I know people hated on Desert for lack of mobility, but that was corrected and it was easier to traverse than Alpine. Alpine’s citadel has to be the worst feature of the map, once you get south of the garrison it’s fine, but north of it? Pain in the kitten .

I can’t really fault anet for using the economics of gems as a method for selling more gems. Gems are optional and don’t provide a competitive advantage and higher prices means people are more likely to pay cash for them. They are a business, so this helps keep the servers operating.

That said, I wish they’d go back down to where they were before the spring update. That would take a gold sink, so they would have to add things in-game people want to spend gold on from an NPC. They’d sell the same number of gems either way because people would buy gems to exchange for gold for said sink. What that sink is would be beyond me. Skins maybe, but cultural armor is already expensive and I’m not sure how many people buy those.

I could really use some bank tabs.

I wouldn’t mind a way to craft ascended jewelry, as the OP suggests, but I’m cool w/ using Laurels… just not on accessories.

I play on SoS, and this week we are against maguuma and FA while losing pretty hard. For the first two day (Friday and Saturday) we hung in there, but by Sunday the server had apparently given up and the past two days have been totally dead. Nobody ever thought we would be competitive in the matchup and this has caused most of the server to take the week off.

Two days of action and now apparently 5 days of retaking towers when the other servers are done with them. And that’s boring.

Alpine is less roamer friendly than Desert, so even that’s boring.

Wasn’t the idea of server linking to put most servers on at least an even footing? The numbers game here isn’t working.

I’m on SoS/GoM, too, and have noticed as of Sunday the drop in our paired server’s participation. I’ve actually seen more familiar faces from GoM lately than the larger SoS guilds.

Perhaps when the smaller incremental scoring is implemented and servers don’t end up as far apart and have a chance at catching up, and the night-capping points not being so lopsided, then it might keep players interested in continuing the fight rather than giving up once a 20-40k point spread exists after 3 days.

I think that’s just it, after 3 days being so far behind with knowledge having played the other servers many times that there is no coming back; most people give up for the week.

pretty sure many SoS players don’t like being paired to GoM and simply don’t play or afk in spawn until more SoS commanders show up.

I like the GoM commanders.

ALT account spying/exploiting

in WvW

Posted by: Hesacon.8735

Hesacon.8735

In the last week, I’ve seen two cases of worse than spying from a server I’m not going to name, but have used the in-game reporting for.

One was a mesmer who could move through walls. Our server was Red and a zerg was hitting the back wall of Velost while we were trying to defend the keep from the third server. While that was going on, this mesmer magically appears through the wall and drops a portal. Luckily the zerg didn’t realize this guy was exploiting (so it’s not a server-wide effort), so only 5 came through and were defeated before the zerg left.

That mesmer found its way to on top of the red keep (a place you cannot get to legitimately) and stayed there for 20 minutes looking for an opportunity to let the zerg in.

Two nights ago, that same server is now playing red and I’m roaming. I come into the camp pang and notice speedy dolyaks. Not a big deal, people use upgrades, but I also notice this reverant following the yak. I attack the rev as it runs away trying to keep pace with the yak. This happens like 3-4 times and not once did the rev respond to me attacking it. Finally I’m able to immobilize it and kill it without it ever one attacking me. They were trying to make ogrewatch T3, which was recently flipped, and were using the rev bot to share boons with the yak and keep it immortal.

  • Outpost: Thieves and Rangers

Could be some small buff as the Minor Bloodlust of ABL, just to spice things up. It wouldn’t be crucial to have the tower but it’d definitely add up a bit when launching a siege against a keep. Besides I think it’d encourage people to pick a favorite tower and find new creative ways of protecting it.

That’s actually kind of a neat idea.
