GW 2 is obsessed with dialogue

What may seem like boring dialogue to some is seen as interesting storytelling for others.

Just putting that out there.

Yup, personally I really enjoyed the stories and sucked in every bit of information I could get in forms of dialogue, text and exploring. Kudos to all voice actors on the team, keep up the good work!

But after completing everything and returning to just do achievements or whatever, it’d be really, really nice to be able to speed things up and press F to skip, instead of the frustrating blabbering you don’t even pay attention to.

Anet, add skip dialogue button please.

Heh, in my mind I see a bunch of Diamond Legends disguised as Recruits, abolutely stomping roamers.

What exactly would be the purpose of this feature anyway? I kind of get the idea that low-rank players would want to hide theirs in a more experienced group of players to avoid being seen as a newbie, but honestly no one even cares (and if they do, the problem is with them, not you). It’s not like WvW rank is anything to boast about; you pretty much learn everything there is about WvW by the time you hit rank 100, so it’s not really a skill measurement or define how “good” a player you are.

Then, selecting any rank below your actual one? What? Why?

UI is terrible.

There’s been a million complaints about the UI (for a reason) and a million suggestions about making it better, so I’m pretty sure Anet will make a major overhaul to that at some point. Just be patient.

To join the salty complainers; I honestly don’t understand why the UI wasn’t customizable in the first place. All we get is 2 different positions for the map and chat boxes, and a size adjustment. A more or less tweakable UI has been something considered self-evident in video games (MMOs especially) for years now, so I’m honestly curious why they decided to make it like that and still haven’t changed it.

Enable Outfit Creation from Unlocked Skins

Hevoskuuri.3891

instead of asking for a redo of the UI to have another Barbie doll panel for mix and match armor that acts like an outfit, why not simply ask that T charges be removed from the game?

In some other games I’ve played, I’ve seen it done where you basically have 2 slots side by side, one for armor and one for skins. Some take it a step further by having multiple pages, allowing you to store multiple outfits. Something like that would be better because the skins aren’t actually tied to your gear, so not only are you more likely to skin while leveling, it also prevents cases where, for example, cultural armor prevents you from transferring ascended.

The simple solution is of course removing the charges, but if ArenaNet did this, they could instead compensate by making them more rare, so maybe people would actually buy them.

As someone who is CONSTANTLY buying them, I have to agree on deleting them completely, or AT LEAST making them easier to obtain. I cannot express enough how frustrating the current system is for those who are constantly changing and tweaking the looks and the gear of their characters. And it’s just completely outrageous trying to obtain these without paying gems; 2 stones per an entire reward track, and one every now and then when I bother to do map completion. Yay. A fine example of my frustration actually happened just two hours ago; I noticed my ele’s gear was slightly off, so I wanted to replace a couple armor pieces. But then I realized I have 0 TM stones, and I just don’t have the 30 gold at the moment to buy them, because I did that just a couple of days ago and wasted them all once again. So now I had to decide between a build I’m not happy with, or ruining my looks.

Those people who have one or two characters and are happy with them, have stored up hundreds of TM charges. And those who constantly need them, are always running out. Please make them tradeable, easier to obtain, make a TM reward track, or at least let me buy a 1000-charge package for 1000 gems or something.

Cost of shared inventory slots

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hevoskuuri.3891

The price of items in the gem store will be directly proportional to how useful the items are in game.
And the shared inventory slots are extremely useful which is why so many people have them.
And they can be bought with in game gold by converting it into gems.
The conversion rate is extremely good at the moment.
If you havnt got enough in game gold then save some until you have.

No matter how useful, overpriced is overpriced. There are lots of must-have useful items in the gem store, of which none cost this much in comparison to what you get. I have said this before, but I think the shared slots should be equally priced with bank tab slots. That’s very reasonable considering it’s one shared slot versus 20 account-wide non-shared ones.

The topic was never about not being able to afford buying these slots. To be honest, I desperately could use these slots, and could afford putting 35€ into 5 of them, but then I come to think I could get so many bag or bank expansions with that money I realize how ridiculously overpriced they are. I wouldn’t even think twice if they had a lower price like all the other upgrades. 700 gems for one.single.inventory.slot, shared or not, is not reasonable. Or having to buy in bulk for a really high price to get the gems-per-slot on a reasonable level.

I agree that 10 euros for a single bag sounds like a lot, but in retrospect, it’s only like 20 euros for 3, and it keeps going down. it’s virtually a bag with slots as many as characters you have. if you have 20 characters, it’s 1 slot times 20

In fact, the price of 3 slots is 1890 gems, and 20 euros only gets you 1600. So you get the most “reasonable” deal when you buy 5 slots for 35 euros. 35 euros, I think, is a monstrous amount spent for any virtual items, and in this case, only gives you 5 slots. Five slots. Out of 17.

I would understand if it was like an entire 20-slot bag shared between characters. I would instantly buy it. But no, it’s 5 individual slots. With that same amount of gems I could get 7 bag slots in total, almost one for my every character, or 80 more slots in my bank plus something nice. I have always thought Anet’s prices were very reasonable, and I’ve been happy buying from them, but dozens of euros from a few small upgrades is just absurd.

I understand the high price of the unlimited gathering tools, because, well, they let you harvest nodes all day everyday, and you can profit quite well from that. Same goes for the coin-fed salvage kits. What I don’t understand is having to pay over 20 euros more to make them account-wide via the shared slots. I’m honestly surprised many people seem to find their over-the-top price completely okay, even though I know perfectly well how useful they are.

[QoL Suggestion] Favorite Friends List

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hevoskuuri.3891

The Frriend List is a total garbage system, that needs a complete overwork since release of the game.

Seriously, I meant it like I’ve written it exactly.

The player has since its there NO real control over his/her personal “rights” anymore, when it comes down to god forbid stupid “followers” and what these people can see in the game about you where and when you are in the game, what these people has not to interest, if I as person DON’T WANT It, that these people should see my location in the game.

if you play this game for the first time and see, how its kittened follower system works – you lose instantly your belief in humanity, how something like that was able to find ever the way into the game.

Once someone follows you, you can’t by hell do absolutely nothing at all as person in this game to make it unhappen.
yes, you can block someone, but that person can still “follow” you and see when you are online, where you are in the game ect. pp
all things, that if i block someone – should for a sane thinking person STOP IMMEDIATELY without any “ifs” or freaking kittening not having to be there at all “buts”

You see there, this is a very very sensible topic to me …
I don’t know why exactly – maybe it has somethign to do with the fact, that GW2 has been the very first game in my life where I ever got my account hacked and I see this kitten follower system as a part of this problem.

its something, as part of the frind list system, that should be under my opinion only there and active for your account, if you as player WANT TO HAVE IT.

If you don’t want to have followers – AT freaking ALL – I as owner of my game account should have the right to decide, WHO follows me and if at all anyone should be able to follow me.

That there is no Remove/Kick function for the player to change directly, who is on the follower list and who not terribly annoys me since 2012, because Anet has done since release of the game NOTHING on these systems, when it would be so simple in fact to add just a bit more quality of life for everyone and more control functions to the system for the player.

Same should be done with the Frind List itself .. Essentially there is absolutely NO NEED at all to have a Follower List, if we have already a “Friend List” and I as owner of my account should have full control over it, who is on that list.
If someone wants to be freinds with me as example, all that needs to happen then is just only that I as receiver of that friendship request should get asked by the game, if I want to accept that request, or not.

More doesn’t have to happen and easier can#t be a Frind List handled with full control over it, who and when somebody should stand on that list and especially what those friends should be able to see all.

Nobody in that list should be able to see generally everything about me, only because that person X stands on the list.
It should be possible for me like with the Guild Member List as Guild Owner to decide as player, which kind of “View Rights” those individual “friends” should have.

There can be friends on my list for example, where I want that these people should always know my location in the game and so on and so forth.
but there can exist also people, where I think, these people can stand on my friend list, yes, but they shouldn#t be able to see, where I am currently in the game, they should be for example only able to see, that I’m online.

Theres is absolutely a need for it, that this system gets finally overworked. And that rework of this system is absolutely not an impossible task to do with such extreme efforts, that it would take potentially ages to get it done -no, its something that ANet could do and implement practically with every single easy peasy patch any time.

You can always make a server transfer and escape to the peaceful tranquility of a WvW map. Or buy a terrace pass and see if you get followed there :P

Not sure if this has ever been asked before, but would it be possible to make a mobile app or a website for the Gem store (not TP)? This way people could take advantage of the sales, seasonal stuff and gem store rotations even if they are out on holiday for example, and can’t log in to the game while something delicious is available.

All the user would have to do is to link their account to the store with an API key or something similar, and the bought items would be delivered into their account mail.

Cost of shared inventory slots

Its all a question of priorities.
I bought all my shared slots with gems I exchanged for gold in the game.
Its not hard to make gold in this game , especially when you dont spend it cosmetic items.
Id rather spend gold on functional items than looking good.

You’re right, it is a priority question. But:

I think it’s accurate to say the majority of the players don’t have hundreds of gold sitting around in their wallets. Not necessarily because of cosmetic items, but functional items, like you said. Like bigger bags, gear and weapons, food, consumables, siege, runes, sigils, insignias. I have multiple characters, and adjusting their gear, trinkets, weapons etc. costs a ton of gold. I almost exclusively play WvW, so I’m not making nearly as much money as fractal players or raiders. I simply can not put 200 gold to buy a shared slot, because it flows into more important stuff, and I’m sure many people are in the same situation.

This is exactly why I buy gems with real money, and I’ve been very happy with that. There’s so much useful stuff in the gem store, often with reasonable prices that don’t hurt my wallet. Gathering tools are useful. My silver-fed salvager is useful. Bank slots are useful. Bag slots are useful. Shared slots are equally useful. So why are they sooo overpriced?

They are sure getting their money’s worth with this pricing.

I honestly believe that by lowering the cost, even more people would buy them, and the moneyflow would actually go up.

Almost everyone wants them, it’s a fact. However, the price is truly crazy for the average player; both in real money AND gold. It’s not something you absolutely must have, but since everyone wants them, by lowering the price Anet could reach many, many more customers. Imagine if the bank slot expansion would only give you 5 slots instead of 20. And the gem price would stay the same. Would you think that’s reasonable? This is how I feel about the shared slots; it seems like total milking.

After all, it’s a quality of life upgrade to make your stuff sorting and sharing easier. It’s not cosmetics. It’s not content. I feel like that kind of a system should be something that exists in the game as it is, instead of making it optional and overpriced. I’m completely happy to pay for cosmetics or actual game content. I’m even happy to buy some upgrades for a reasonable price, because I like to support Anet. But I’m not happy with the fact that for the price of a few slots, I could have bought the entire game.

Looking for general advice! :)

Hello and welcome back! I also quit about a year after the release, and came back after HoT was released (been playing nonstop since, woops!)

1) Like Amaimon said, give a shout in any major city or any map that has activity going on. You can also check out the World Boss guide online, show up before the event, and you’ll see tons of guild advertisements in the map chat. However, since the Megaservers were introduced (meaning all PvE servers were merged together), you might find yourself from an empty map. The LFG tool comes in handy here, you can find yourself a squad with people, join the squad, and right-click their names to join an instance of the map with more players in it. Sorry if I’m explaining no-brainers here, I just don’t know how familiar you are with the game’s modern mechanics

2. The Auric Basin Multiloot is the most popular gold farming event as far as I know, for the expansion owners. The new LS3 maps are also very lucrative, for HoT owners as well. If you don’t own the expansion, go to Silverwastes and Dry Top (if you have LS2 unlocked). If you only have the core game, I honestly don’t know where the most effective gold gain is these days. Fractals and raids I guess?

3. The game has changed ALOT. Take your time to readjust to the mechanics and to the world, don’t rush anything or it might get really overwhelming. If you don’t own HoT and start playing actively again, get that. Do world bosses, dungeons, fractals, raids, whatever feels fun to you. Set yourself a goal and work towards it. Find nice achievements that you want to complete.

I think that covers the most. Welcome back and good luck on your travels

The concept of WvW is really, really easy to understand and learn.

If you’re a total novice, go to the Edge of the Mists to learn the basics. Find yourself a commander (a tag on the map) and follow along with his/her zerg around the map and do whatever they do. EotM is a kind of a light, more casual version of actual WvW that still gives you Proofs and everything you would acquire in the actual WvW maps. Sink a couple hours in there, and you’ll pretty much know the basics already. And don’t be afraid to ask people for help in EotM.

I personally found WvW much more enjoyable to master my elites in than the HP’s in HoT, can’t say if it’s actually faster though. With boosts and EotM it definitely is.

Good luck.

The price is 700 if you buy one, but it gets lowered to 560 (per slot) if you buy 5 of them at once. Maybe the price of one slot is so high so they can do the discount for the many slots?

I honestly didn’t even think about this, thank you for the reminder! I might just grab myself 5 slots sometime in the near future.

Still, I think the individual price is set a bit too high. I fully understand how useful these slots are, but they shouldn’t be more expensive than the bank slots IMO, because it is, after all, just one slot. Make it two slots for that price, and I’m sold.

Shared inventory slots are an incredible useful QoL feature. But does anyone else here think the cost is maybe a little too high?

700 gems is alot. You can get other somewhat similar QoL improvements from the gem store for a much lower price (bank tab & bag slot expansions), and as nice as the shared slots are, I don’t think their price should be any higher than the bank expansion’s.

The price equals almost 10 euros (in fact, you can’t even buy straight out 700 gems with real money, so you NEED to spend 10 euros minimum). Now that’s not a big money for me to spend every once in a while, but 10 euros for one single inventory slot seems a bit out of place. I realize that you can also exchange gold to gems, but that’s nearly 200 gold per slot, and I rarely have that much gold around, since everything I earn goes to adjusting my character builds and buying skins, utility items and siege.

I realize these slots are probably amazingly popular, and thus Anet set the price high to maximize their income. And that’s OK, it’s their call. I’m actually quite sure people would buy even more of them if the price would drop. Considering the fact that it’s one single slot (incredibly useful, but still), and for less gems you can get 20 more slots into your inventory via a bag slot expansion (but not shared), I would name these two purchasables as equally worthy.

If their price gets dropped down to 400 or even 500 gems, or if there’s ever a discount, I’ll buy some in a heartbeat. But it stands against my nature to pay 10 euros or ~200 in-game gold for being able to hold one more item in my inventory, shared between characters or not.

Thanks Anet for the free one you got with HoT purchase, that was very nice. I realize their price will probably not drop anytime in the near future, if ever, but I made this topic to simply hear other people’s thoughts on the price. What do you think? Is it set right or should it be taken down a notch?

Oh, and please don’t respond with “if you think the price is too high, then learn to live without them.” That’s self-evident. I’m not whining, I just want to hear other opinions about whether their price is reasonable or not

There’s a much easier solution in making WvW population grow; just remove a few low-pop servers entirely. Just snap a few off the bottom and move the players to remaining servers. This will have no effect on PvE players and the WvW population would grow on each server significantly. I don’t think anyone particularly wants to play WvW in the completely dead low-pop servers.

Dailies!

Hevoskuuri.3891

Or, you can complete dailies in WvW and/or PvP entirely. I find it much, much faster and more enjoyable than chasing random nodes of ore in 3 different zones.

If you don’t like those gamemodes at all, and log in just to get your dailies done, jump into EotM or one of the borderlands and check if Big Spender, Master of Monuments or Land Claimer are there on the list. These are three super-fast dailies: buy some siege from the safezone where you spawn for 25 badges (this, of course, requires those badges), go kill the nearest hostile sentry you see on the map and claim the land, or go grab the nearest shrine or ruin near your garrison. These are even faster now that Wintersday is going on, just save 4 gifts for every day and consume them; that gives a daily too. Can be combined with any other daily from any other gamemode too.

PvP dailies are also fast; ideally you get all three instantly if you win one match, but that really depends on your luck and your skill.

WvW and PvP are my main gamemodes so getting my dailies done always happens in the process without any effort, but if you are not into those at all, then I feel you. Now during Wintersday getting your PvE dailies are easier than usual though, just go to Divinity’s and do…. anything.

I’ll admit it, I originally came to WvW just for easy alt leveling and Proofs, but after some time I realized I was spending more and more time on EB and BL’s rather than EotM, taking things more and more seriously until it was too late :P My server’s overall team spirit played a big part in that.

Hopes n Dreams about Expac 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

Personally, my biggest dream about Xpac 2 is that they would create a zone/zones with the core GW2 maps in mind. Let me explain what I mean:

Tremendous, big, huge zones. Possibly even just one reeeally big zone (but since it looks like we’ll be fighting 2 different dragons, there’ll probably be more than 1 zone). Unlike the HoT zones, these zones wouldn’t be filled with condi-spamming mobs every 10 steps you take. Instead, like you could in the core maps, you could casually explore the beautiful setting, look at the landscape, marvel at the day/night cycle and hopefully dynamic weather, and really find your mind at peace here. This is what most of the core maps feel like to me, unless there’s a big event going. This, I feel like, is GW2 at it’s best.

So these zones could be roamed casually without danger most of the time, but because these maps are actually huge, wide and spacious (not vertically this time), there would always be a meta-event/events going on in some corner of the zone, taking you across the map, fighting massive scary enemies and so on. Optimally these zones would also have hearts, for more casual adventure and fun. It would be nice if the zone would be divided into different-themed settings, such as a partial forest setting, some sand, some snow et cetera, so that you don’t get bored of seeing the same colours and plants over and over again.

As far as masteries go, these zones could hide a wonderful amount of hidden lairs, dungeons, treehouses, bush-hideouts and whatever one can imagine, and these could be accessed via the masteries. Nothing way too hardcore like some of HoT’s masteries, where you absolutely HAD to grind for that mushroom stealth detection or w/e so that you could get through one chapter in the story. I hope they add alot of masteries, but just for small QoL improvements and mostly just for fun, so that they would stay completely optional instead of turning into a nightmarish grindfarm for points (and XP.)

TL;DR I dream about huge, spacious, diverse and beautiful zones that resemble the original core maps; being able to explore freely without a million mobs everywhere, being able to complete hearts and have fun, but also have some serious meta-events around the map.

Triple Trouble: I think it is too hard

I have NEVER in 4 years of playing seen a successful Triple Trouble. One time I participated in killing a single wurm, but that was it. It feels like Octovine in Auric Basin was meant to be a sort of replacement (different groups fighting simultaneously, different mechanics at each one, having to coordinate with the timer)

I’ve tried to do the event 38 times in the past few months (yes I’ve counted), and it has succeeded once. And in those 38 I’m only including times when there were enough players to even have a chance.

I’d really love to get those remaining MP’s

Advice for a brand new player

In addition to all of the comments above this, I’d like to emphasize that the game really has ALOT of content. This can feel overwhelming in the beginning and in my case lead to a quick burn-out; I personally found myself bumping into new and strange terms all the time, had generally no idea of anything, and got bored after reaching the max level. There was all this content, but it all seemed so far-off for a fresh level 80, so I didn’t know what to throw myself into.

The key in avoiding a situation like that is to be WILLING to understand and learn, from the basics all the way up. I made the mistake of not joining a guild to help me out; do that. I also didn’t get familiar with the wiki; do that, too. Be willing to learn what sounds most appealing to you, and you will most likely find it really fun.

Eventually, after the expansion was released, I started the game again. I learned the basics again, found a guild, browsed the wiki, learned fractals, raids, WvW, PvP, world bosses, meta events; it turned out great fun and got me totally addicted.

In a nutshell, keep an open eye and an open mind, join a guild, read the wiki, ask around if you need help, and most importantly HAVE FUN! Welcome to Tyria; we’ll see you in battle!

It would be impossible for me to say I don’t love gw2 as I’ve put more hours into it than every other game I’ve played combined.
My favourite (at the moment) part of the game is WvW, mainly the zerg fights. Despite what people qq about so much, it isn’t just about rushing your foe and winning with higher numbers. Case in point, the fight last night in which we wiped a map semi organised possible map queue with 35 players because of superior tactics and organisation.

This! I’ve had countless palm-sweating, adrenaline-rushing insane zerg battles that often have concluded in results no one thought could happen. Of course, roaming is also fun.

If you’ve played a game with a codex (such as Mass Effect) then you’d know that the codex provides much more than the GW2 wiki currently provides.

Wooden Potatoes had a pretty expansive and well thought-out idea on how this could look: http://imgur.com/gallery/ABALZ/new

I really, really, really like this idea. Unlocking more and more information for the codex (even if it was completely useless) sounds like fun, and I bet many would agree, thus populating empty zones hunting Jaguars and whatnot.

Also, the information about different beasts, materials from nodes, history of towns and POIs etc. could be really interesting to read. This would also encourage exploration and world completion, and bring a ton of new depth to the game and the lore. Shouldn’t take too much effort from Anet either.

Let’s be honest here, who goes to the Wiki to read about Jaguars or to seek detailed info about Queensdale Bandits? Didn’t think so.

Account Wide Inventory Bag Slots

This, this, this. Unlocking slots only for each individual character is just absurd. I mean, I’d do it in a heartbeat, were I a millionaire. But how many millionaires are really playing this game?

Same goes for the harvesting tools in the gem store. Account-wide harvesting tool slot would REALLY be appreciated, until then I’m not going to buy them.

Idea for a new Map Completion Reward

Totally agree with OP. Being able to choose between all/some waypoints unlocked and world completion rewards would be amazing.

I personally don’t care about the Gifts of Exploration, and I have 9 characters in total, of which just one has 100% completion and 2 come pretty close at around 70-90%. I would absolutely love being able to jump to world bosses or dungeons or just generally around the map with my alts, but all the running is just too much for me, after the first time I just wanna GET TO PLACES QUICKLY. Can’t even imagine the pain of someone with 50 characters (unless they REALLY enjoy visiting the same places over and over again).

I would go to extreme lenghts here and even propose a total makeover to the whole World Completion business. The first 100% completion would unlock ALL waypoints account-wide for all characters, and the map completion rewards after that would be reduced by, let’s say 30-40%. If you wanted to obtain another pair of Gifts of Exploration, you would then have to do some additional work beside the world completion. For example, split the Gift into two different items. The first item you would obtain via 100% completion, and the second one would be craftable, for example.

In any case, world completion needs a compromise. Between those who are only interested in having waypoints unlocked, and those who want to grind for their Gifts, some kind of a balance could be definitely found.

Less Tomes and More Siege

As an extreme alt-o-holic, I would have to disagree with OP

I love tomes. I NEED tomes. Tomes, tomes, tomes.

Once I noticed a great idea here in the forums; make an entirely separate Tome of Knowledge reward track, that would only give you tomes, and remove them from other reward tracks. WvW basically throws loads of them at you anyway, so I don’t really see why not. People who need tomes would only get them faster, and those who don’t have any need for them could get something useful instead. Just a thought.

Change Precursors to Account Bound

First of all I want to say, I’ve never gotten a precursor and don’t own a single legendary, but I’m gonna guess those items follow the same rules as everything else.

As far as I know, precursors are NOT account bound on acquire. That means unless you soulbind them (equip them on a character), you should be able to freely move those items between your characters, in your bank, or sell them in the trading post. It only becomes character-bound when you actually equip it.

If you only want to use the precursor on a different character (and not craft a legendary out of it), you should be able to transmute that skin on any weapon of the same type without having to use the actual precursor. This way you can use, let’s say, Leaf of Kudzu on any character who uses longbows, as long as the actual weapon has been bound to one of the characters in your account.

So if you wanted to move your precursor to another character for crafting a legendary, but you already equipped it on another character, sorry, you’re out of luck.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

[Suggestions] Future Elite Specializations

Just reading about the wildest ideas people have for elite specs gives me goosebumbs.

Am I the only one who wishes the future elites will be something very small and minor? If every class gets 5 new hardcore elite specs, in the end everyone will be able to play any role on any class, use any weapon, and the whole meaning of the profession pick kind of fades away. Also, I can’t even imagine the balancing difficulties, if every class could choose from 5 different elites, it would be flat out impossible to keep all of them equally powerful yet different at the same time.

I definitely support being able to modify your profession/character into different directions, and getting more options to do that is always great. I love all of the current elite specializations. However, if the future elites will follow the same pattern, it just feels like too much. I hope that the future specs will change something small here and there instead of changing the entire playstyle of the profession. They could maybe unlock a new weapon or a new skill for some classes (or change the existing skills and attacks for weapons, for example).

Is anyone with me on this, or are y’all drooling for almighty superwarriors with no profession diversity?
