Server w/ realistic skin playerbase?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hevoskuuri.3891

If the ‘immersion breaking’ skins bother you so much, maybe you should consider switching to an immersive sim game. GW2 is after all a game set in a fantasy world with dragons and magic (and has never claimed to be realistic in any sense), what else you’d expect?

Edit: this is not a personal attack, I’m simply just tired of seeing people complain about immersion, which sounds really silly to me considering the game’s theme, lore and genre.

HP's for PoF Elites

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Hevoskuuri.3891

Since the new specs are not meant to be overtuned or in any way better than HoT ones, I think it would be unfair for them to cost more than 250 HP’s.

Unless the PoF Hero challenges reward more points that HoT ones like HoT did with vanilla. That way no one could unlock the specs right at launch, but you could earn the points fairly quickly to play the expansion with the elite.

This would be rather pointless, increasing the cost but also increasing the income of HPs. Might just as well leave it at 250 and 10 HPs per challenge, which I personally believe it will be.

Make death impactful in WvW

in WvW

Hevoskuuri.3891

While I don’t support the idea of your participation going down, I agree that dying should punish you more severely in WvW. As many have stated however, there’s no easy answer to this.

In a perfect scenario, if dying would actually mean something, it would encourage more strategic play and highlight the importance of everyone doing their job well (front/backlines, support awareness, good commanding etc.) and introduce a whole new world of tacticism into WvW. No more boring zerg vs. zerg bloodfests; the skill and positioning would matter more than numbers. The fights would become a lot more fun. Also, killing another player while roaming would feel really satisfying and dying would encourage you to learn from your mistakes and get better.

I personally think that the best ‘punishment’ for dying would be that when you die, you are locked in the spawn zone for X number of minutes (2-5 minutes, 1 if outnumbered). You could still use the vendors and sort out your inventory and such, but wouldn’t be able to exit the spawn area until the timer goes out.

There are problems though. As many have mentioned, siege camping would become a real pain. With my suggestion, a small group of people on an empty map could completely hunt and shut down solo roamers, for example.

No easy answers.

Flashy Gliders and Auras

While I agree that it’s great we have items and gear to satisfy both, flashy-lovers and flashy-haters, there definitely should be an option somewhere to heavily tone down or even disable effects from the surrounding legendaries and auras. Trying to do crowded JP’s, HP runs or anything large-scale, the screen does usually fill up with flashy clutter, making things very annoying.

Other than that, I’ve nothing against flashy stuff.

After wings and bunny ears you want that now ?
NO !
There is enough breaking-immersion stuff.

No one has ever stated in any official manner that Guild Wars 2 is intended to be immersive or lifelike in any way. This is a completely fictional fantasy land we’re talking about, after all, with tiny rodent-like races and dragons and magic and so forth. I can never understand why people keep mistaking GW2 for an immersive simulator game.

Personally, I would pay alot of money for a Corgi mount. Anet, PLEASE do it!

Path of Fire Stress Test August 31, 2017

Hevoskuuri.3891

Same reason they did previous Stress Tests at that time. It’s when the Devs are at work.

They don’t exactly run stress tests very often. One would think they want as much people on the servers as only possible, thus it would be logical to launch the test on the busiest hours of Friday night, for example.

These devs work really hard; during the datacenter blackout and the snowstorm case, they stayed up all night fixing things and keeping us up to date. It seems very unlikely to me that they would pick the most quiet hours of the day to pull off a STRESS TEST, just because that’s “when they usually are at work”.

I’m curious why they decided to go with 2pm PST on the stress test, and for a couple of hours only. In US, most people will be at work or school, and for most of EU that’s very late in the evening (midnight for me). And on a business day instead of friday/saturday evening? Makes no sense whatsoever, unless I am very much misunderstanding the meaning of a ‘stress test’.

Nevertheless, it’s nice to get some more PoF time, even at very odd hours deep in the thursday/friday night.

Want to come back for Path of Fire

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

My experience is when people come back they leave again. They obviously have a game they enjoy and this game doesn’t fit them but “looks good”. I started playing about 2 months after GW2 launched with about 7 people….they all left and went back to other games. A couple came back for HoT but left again.

So unless a player is a 5-year veteran or completely new to the game, they’re not likely to stay for a longer time?

I think this is very untrue, and the most loyal population to the game in fact are these ‘comebackers’. It’s much more likely for someone that has played frequently from the beginning to burn out/get bored and quit or go on a longer break than someone who still has much of the newer content to discover. Same goes for new players, there’s a good chance they won’t deep enough in the game to stay for a longer term. I’d estimate half of the new players starting today will be gone forever in 2 weeks, and 70% of them in a month.

Personally I played on and off after launch after completely forgetting the game for many years. Almost a year after HoT I came back and have stayed ever since, and won’t be quitting anytime soon. I’m guessing this is the case for most other people, as well. We all remember how good the game was in the beginning, but feel like it lacked something to keep us interested. Then one day we log in, see all the improvements and new content and get hooked.

So in my experience, most of those who come back are the most likely people to stay.

I am looking forward to new mini Aurene.

Possibly even a legendary mount mini outfit glider Aurene? That’d be neat, would buy.

Mastery points in Gem store

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

I’m currently 15 points short from the max mastery level, my only missing ones are the two last core tyrian legendary crafting masteries. I’m not interested in legendary crafting, but I’d like to max them out before the xpac hits just for the sake of completion. I’ve calculated that 5-6 will be a walk in the park, but the rest will take time to achieve in some parts of the game I’m not so excited about.

But hey, that’s life. I think GW2 already has too many shortcuts, the max mastery level is a true indicator of something achieved by yourself and not bought with gems, a symbol of veterancy if you will. So if you want it, work for it. Besides, getting the mastery points in this game isn’t so hard anyway. I’ve gotten from 0 to 178 in a year or so, with mostly casual gameplay.

will you change main at pof ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

No. I’ve used my main in all story content, world completion and he is my main character in WvW and PvP as well, so obviously he’s the pick for PoF too. I don’t know, it would feel really weird to change characters all of a sudden, just like the main character would suddenly change to someone else in a middle of a more story-oriented game or a tv show. I feel like he is the true ‘commander’ out of all my other characters.

I use my alts for WvW roaming, occasional PvP and fractals, but all story content belong to my main only.

Why are class icons standardized in PvP?

in PvP

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

Just asking out of curiosity; why do the class icons remain the same after equipping elite specs in PvP? They change in PvE and WvW, so is there a specific reason for it that I just don’t know about?

The only somewhat logical reason I could think of is that in the start of a match, you won’t be able to tell which specs your opponents are running, thus preventing you from changing your build/character to counter that. But that seems kind of far-fetched, considering we’ve only had one set of elites so far, and you can always be 95% sure that everyone is running their elite anyway. It would actually make more sense now that the PoF elites are coming; you can’t tell which elite a certain profession is running so you can’t effectively prepare against it.

Anyway, I doubt it would make any big difference, and if this was the reason, why would the profession icons be standard in the PvP lobby as well?

I’ve been wondering about this for a while, so if anyone knows whether or not there is an actual reason for it, I’d like to know.

[Suggestion] Keep weapons drawn.

Fully support this idea. I have a few characters with shields and backpacks that I want to present simultaneously, so I run around smashing autoattack every few seconds to keep them from stowing. Same goes for weapons that lose their effect when stowed.

Mounts - Feedback

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

I think whoever designed the mounts deserves a medal.

Unlike any mounts in RPG’s I’ve seen, this one really feels like a MOUNT instead of a pure cosmic speed upgrade. The movement feels like you actually are riding a heavy creature; slowing uphill, speeding downhill, time it takes to reach full speed and the time it takes to fully stop, all the jumps, grunts, idle animations and so forth; it’s very near perfect.

Also the mount/dismount system is very smart and surprisingly fluid; mounting and dismounting all happens really fast and I absolutely can’t find anything to complain about aside from a few bugs that have already been posted here.

I also like the fact they didn’t make the mounts use ooc+33% movement speed, but are faster than that (confirmed on Reddit; none of the classes can outrun the Raptor). That also adds to the immersion of getting to places faster with a creature that realistically is faster than you. Also, I love how you can spam the jumps.

I didn’t really have any expectations about mounts, but now I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of them. MOUNTS ARE FUN.

Returning Player - Can't decide on class

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

All of the classes and their respective elite specs are strong in their own fields, and picking one is entirely a matter of your personal preference, nobody can name the one most ‘entertaining’ class since they are all different and appeal to different people in a different way. Also, there’s no big differences in the leveling experience; some classes do more damage than others and some have better sustain than others, but that’s about it.

First, I suggest you study the classes a little bit; read about them in the Wiki, watch videos on Youtube, and read the profession sub-forums here. Try to decide which class seems the most interesting to you and also keep your preference on tank/support/dps in mind. This said, most of the professions can shine in multiple areas depending on the builds, so there’s no absolute pick for a single role.

So again, it all comes down to which profession seems the most appealing to you. I hope you find yours, and welcome back to Tyria!

Concerns about 'Path of Fire'

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

Elite specs, as we all know, are OP. HoT elite specs have ruined this game for the worse. They have destroyed PvP and WvW. They also have made some PvE content trivial although it’s not that big an issue. They changed the speed and flow of combat. These specs give you everything in one build: offense, defense, cc, condis, condi cleansing, invulns. They don’t take much skill to play. My fear with PoF is that history will repeat. PoF specs will be overturned compared to HoT and core specs, due to their design. That PvP and WvW will bleed players dry once again.

The elite specs have ruined nothing. Aside from some (understandable) balancing issues after launch, they were a great addition. Did you honestly want to play your core profession through 2 expansions with the same skills and traits, with the same meta?

I’m sure Anet has learned their lesson about balance, and the new elite specs will be as they say: more OPTIONS for your class, instead of overtuning them to be necessary in order to compete with everyone else. And any balance issues there might be, they’ll get patched soon anyway.

The mounts will be implemented, like it or not. Complaining about it won’t make them go away, so why complain?

I don’t particularly like the new map, but that’s only because I hate Orr, always have, and even this map won’t change my mind Maybe if you turned it into a happy, colorful place with bunnies and greenery… but oh, you had to go with the darkness ‘n’ death theme. Otherwise, a very well-designed zone with interesting mechanics and bosses, and some of the new backpieces are amazing.

A solid 9/10 episode, good job and many thanks to the team for this wonderful season!

//Edit: forgot to add. The map really could use one or two more (actual) waypoints. Buying them with the map currency is a nice touch I guess, but feels kind of pointless. Oh and the portal scroll tome, that was a great addition!

I felt the same way back when I bought the game on launch day. Didn’t really connect with the world at all, and quit playing before I even hit level 80. I tried it out a bunch of times afterwards, but always the same issue.

Years later, after HoT was already out, I decided to once again try the game. I created a new character and got addicted really quick. Not really sure what happened actually, maybe it was the nice guild I found, or all the new content, I don’t know. But from that point I’ve been playing every single day, cursing myself for not properly starting this game earlier.

My advice: just roll with it. Get to 80. Try out everything the game has to offer and see if you like something.

This. I, too want to see the trailers as soon as possible, like everyone else. But when there’s no official announcement on the date, everyone should pull the brakes on the hype train. No use in getting disappointed over and over again; always understand there’s a chance it won’t be happening when we want.

Besides, two days after the episode we have something to wait AGAIN, so better bask in this hype now because the next one will be LONG!

in Mesmer

Posted by: Hevoskuuri.3891

Hevoskuuri.3891

I just finished leveling a mesmer the hard way and I had a lot of fun doing it. I haven’t leveled anything else to 80, though, so maybe I don’t know how difficult it was compared to other professions – but it wasn’t hard at all. You have clones and phantasms to take aggro from you, you have sword-2 to evade big attacks, you have greatsword-5 to interrupt big attacks…I didn’t try to, like, solo champs or anything but is Mesmer really that much worse? What professions are flying through the levels that much easier?

Power Mesmer has pretty much the lowest damage output of all classes.

Mesmers are capable of delivering a great burst, but after that our damage over time is average at best, while most of the other classes can keep dealing solid power damage constantly. This is bad for PvE; you fight multiple mobs spread wide all the time, and you can burst one or two down in a second, but killing the rest is initially slower than the other classes, making them faster to level in the long run.

Condi mesmer doesn’t work well in leveling either. In order for condi mesmer to function properly, you pretty much need all the exact traits equipped, which won’t be happening until close to level 80.

So in a nutshell, Mesmer is a bit slower to level than the other classes, because we rely on our opening burst, and after that our damage output is quite low before the burst combo comes off cooldown.

probably the silver curse

i think i should be in plat and at least tier 3 gold

Trust me, being in gold or even platinum this season isn’t all that great.

I duo-queued my placement games and got placed into platinum. Since that I’ve been queuing solo, and lost 70% of my games so far and now I’m down to Gold 2, almost 1.

Seems like the new ranking system places bronze and silver-level players into higher tiers, since I’m seeing some very poor decision-making and nonexistent tactics that has never happened before in platinum or gold. And of course, most of the time I’ve lost to a team with duo players. Can’t even imagine what it’s like in silver.

So actually it’s the solo-queue curse. Unless you get really lucky, it’s honestly impossible to progress alone.

If you arent Wp who ever other month makes a ne charr to prove something or goes for legenary weapons therefore he needs winderberries (no offence i love the guy) you got NO replayability out of the se3 maps.

I don’t really agree. Just like any other map, the replayability is just fine.

There are constant metaevents going on (way smaller than SW or HoT events tho) with tons of players every day, there are collections, hearts, general events and bosses. You might not get as much loot out of it as you would in Auric Basin for example, but the S3 maps are really fun and beautiful to me. Sometimes I get tired, but always find myself going back.

I do realize in the long run these maps will get boring, but that’s pretty much their point. The whole Living World is supposed to keep us occupied and give us smaller content drops while we wait for the expansion; it’s not supposed to be bigger than this. And I’m loving it.
